Talk about Southern charm! A southern wedding wrought with purpose, you won’t believe how many thoughtful details Tory + Max included in their big day. From the custom napkin/entree pairs to the Derby bidding cards at the cocktail hour, this day was entirely theirs. Punchy summer flowers were complemented by boho lace gowns, and chinoiserie dishes made a statement at the dinner table. We are just over the moon for this vibrant fete captured by Marni Rothchilds Pictures and Nichole Barrali Photography.
From the stylist, Bethany Boles Hewitt of Southern Graces: Inspired to capture the essence of the relaxed Lowcountry, Max and Tory, two young & bold attorneys decided to head down South to her family’s summer plantation for the perfect juxtaposition of Boho Chic meets Southern Sophisticate. With most of their guests making the trek all the way to Ridgeland, South Carolina (an hour outside of Hilton Head Island), this Manhattan couple spoiled their guests from arrival to departure with a flurry of festivities to include Skeet Shooting, Lunch on the Lawn, a His & Hers Softball game, and a scrumptious post Wedding Brunch – but the wedding ceremony and reception included such romance, whimsy, and pure fun that none of the guests wanted to leave!
Using a spectrum of varying grey blues, the couple wanted fresh pops of Coral to capture the vibrancy of their relationship, with the softer shades of porcelain to be reminiscent of the Old South. The setting for the ceremony in front of the Lake with a blossoming floral arbor set the stage for the sweet nuptials, complete with mixed vintage chairs & church pew seating accented with fern pressed throw pillows and a 5-piece bluegrass funk band out of Charleston, The Bushels. Once married, the couple headed over around the bend to a whimsical log cabin with the Bride’s favorite Live Oak dressed in natural green garlands and suspended Edison lights overhead as the couple took some special time in the old tree swing.
The cocktail hour featured several unexpected twists, including bidding cards for the Derby during the cocktail hour, mint juleps butler passed, as well as featured hors d’oeuvres prepared by the Turkey Hill Plantation culinary team- the Bride’s favorite! The reception was magical, and included guests table assignments hand-lettered on suspended philodendron leaves. The meal was presented family style with an eclectic mix of vintage silver serving trays and rustic wooden serving bowls, leaving the guests swooning over delectable Southern staples, all glammed up to include Smoked Gouda Mac & Cheese, Blue Crab Stuffed Grouper, Beef Tenderloin with local Blackberry Gastrique, Organic Succotash, Sweet Potato Gratin, and Cast Iron Cornbread – just to name a few! The surprises continued unfolding, with a Polaroid photo booth, featuring a custom-made neon sign that the couple now have hanging in the home, as well as roving dessert carts, and late-night snacks of hot & now Krispy Kreme doughnuts with bottled coco cola. The night ended with a bang – literally! With a fireworks show over the lake to send the couple on their way into the night of wedded bliss!
