When we spotted these lush English garden vibes in a Silicon Valley wedding shot by This Love of Yours Photography, we knew we were in for a treat. Kelly + Todd have a story as charming as their wedding style — 7 ½ years in the making! So it’s no wonder their day was overflowing with personal details in this intimate celebration. The moon theme has definitely struck our fancy, and we know you’re gonna love their dreamy vineyard nuptials.
From the bride, Kelly: Clos LaChance Winery was the perfect venue for our wedding since it is located around the corner from the home I grew up in. In fact, we had our rehearsal dinner the night before in my parent’s backyard. I wanted our wedding to feel personal to Todd and I and give our guests a glimpse of my small hometown I love so much. The winery is stunning, nestled amongst the rolling green hills, you feel that you have escaped the hustle and bustle of Silicon Valley for a quieter more serene atmosphere. Clos LaChance is full of rose bushes, chestnut trees, and acres of vineyards so we kept the colors simple, soft blush, lots of greenery, and a hint of antique gold. We did not want to overshadow the gorgeous natural elements that the winery has to offer.
Once we settled on Grover the Moon as our social media hashtag, we decided to make it our wedding theme and run with it. Our wedding was a real labor of love and so many people contributed making personal touches that we incorporated into our day. My dad along with the help of a neighbor carved the wood crescent moons we used as table numbers. My mom and I found adorable moon charms that we tied to every menu as a keepsake for guests. My bridesmaid stained and hand painted each guest’s name on wood signs for our seating chart and a family friend created a fun chalkboard sign for the dance room. Our dessert bar consisted of my mom’s homemade chocolate chip cookies, cheesecake bites, and an assortment of donuts from the local donut shop. We chose a small cake from our favorite bakery Susie Cakes, a place Todd and I frequent far too often. We hung gold and white stars to the large chandelier in the dance area so our guests could “dance under the stars” and also adorned all our tables and decorations with rose gold fairy lights to up the romance factor.
For flowers, I worked with Flower Divas to make my vision come to life. The arrangements were flowy and a bit wild, I wanted them to look like my florist had walked into an English garden, scooped up a random assortment and made a bouquet, nothing too structured. We used some leftover fabric from the skirt of my dress to tie to my bouquet and selected hand dyed ribbon for my bridesmaid’s bouquets. I loved the long garland we draped across the head table and the centerpieces overflowing with greenery perched on each table for the reception. The large arrangements adorning either side of the ceremony aisle were show stoppers.
I knew I wanted a Monique Lhuillier dress even before I was engaged and wound up buying my dress before booking a single vendor… it was love at first sight! Thankfully, my dress captured the tone of our wedding perfectly, soft, romantic, and fun! I felt like a bride with the white lace top and long dramatic veil, but the blush silk organza skirt complete with a slit up the slide kept it young and flirty.
It’s nearly impossible to pinpoint a favorite moment, but our ceremony was truly special. We wrote our own vows and reciting those words to one another in front of our family and friends who have witnessed our relationship grow over the course of 7 ½ years was unforgettable. My brother who officiated the ceremony is a professor so I knew he would deliver a great ceremony and boy did he! He incorporated personal stories throughout with a touch of humor equating to plenty of tears and lots of laughs. The dance floor was a close second. I don’t think I ever saw a guest NOT dancing. I didn’t want the day to end and having our closest friends and family dance amongst us into the night was perfection.
While I absolutely loved my dress, gorgeous flowers, and the delicious food at our wedding, the personal touches are what really stand out. Whether it was the speeches Todd and I each gave to our parents during dinner, our handwritten vows, my mom’s homemade cookies, or the fact that my childhood home was right around the corner, these special elements true to Todd and I make me beam with pride when reflecting on our special day. Our wedding is something we will cherish forever and these photos will keep such wonderful memories alive.
