Savannah Elopement During a Hurricane
Imagine this scenario: Izzy Hudgins Photography and French Knot Studios are all set to make your dream elopement come true, when Hurricane Matthew peeps his head in. It didn’t deter Brenna and Alexis’ plans, as the couple made their way from Charlotte to Savannah in order to say “I Do” in pre-storm winds. Thank goodness for their uplifting wedding mantra, “love weathers all storms!”
From the bride, Brenna: We got engaged last January and due to Alexis’ Green card application timeline, we decided to do an intimate elopement for our “paperwork wedding.” Savannah was close enough of a drive to Charlotte, where we live, to go for a long weekend but far enough away to feel like a proper runaway elopement! We were both excited to visit this beautiful town and have it as backdrop to our special weekend. Little did we know that Hurricane Matthew would provide us with the ultimate in wedding experiences! One of my best friends had given us a mantra the week before our elopement – “Our love weathers all storms” – and here we were in the middle of a hurricane about to get married! It was really too ironic and funny, but we kept saying it to each other as we walked around a deserted Savannah taking photographs with Izzy. It felt like the set to a movie.
Audrey, our planner and stylist, was such a pleasure to work with. After an initial consultation via Skype we set up a Pinterest board to help narrow down ideas and themes, where we eventually settled on bees. The theme came together beautifully with bright pops of fall color and bees subtly worked into various details. Audrey created this amazing installation of flowers in the courtyard where we were married that looked like a tide of flowers blowing in the pre-storm winds. Not only was she our design guru, but she made sure everything went off without a hitch with our vendors who rocked on despite the storm! We couldn’t have asked for a lovelier, more memorable experience.
