It was important to us that the ceremony was the focus of the day- but we also wanted to throw a really great party. We have been together for eight years (I was 16 and had braces when we started dating!) and so we are blessed with a community of friends and family who know us well as a couple and are invested in our relationship. We envisioned a weekend celebration with all our loved ones coming from around the country to our hometown.

My wedding dress was definitely the biggest DIY project of the event. Adam is a tailor and from the beginning he wanted to design and make it. We started with lots of sketches and photos of things I liked, and he took it away from there! He bought with a book on 18th century corsets, and taught himself how to make one using my measurements. It was made of silk duppioni and silk chiffon, and then antique french lace on the back. The skirt was silk chiffon. He finished it 13 days before the wedding, and while it caused a bit of anxiety, it was worth it to marry him in something he had put so much time into!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Make sure you’re talking with your fiance about things other than the wedding! Adam and I would have wedding-free evenings, where we went to dinner or hung out with friends and there was no wedding talk allowed. Use your loved ones’ skills, because they want to help! At first I felt horrible asking for people’s time and energy (for free!), but then I realized how much people loved helping and contributing. Remember, your wedding is just one day of celebrating your marriage. It’s the marriage that’s forever.

  • The white hydrangeas in the glass tea pot, the dress made by the groom, and the bride’s footware are all amazing!
Down to the last detail this seems to be a clear reflection of the two of you as a couple, and I’m sure your marriage will be just as beautiful.

  • Love those luggage pieces that you and your bridesmaids are holding!! Where did you get them? And also, I’m so curious as to what was inside them! Was it your BM gift to them?

  • Thank you for all your encouragement, everyone! I’d agree that Adam is a contender for groom of the year, but I’m obviously biased 😉

Yes, the traincases were my gift to my bridesmaids. We bought them off ebay as we found them, and filled them with fun lotions, soaps, silly sunglasses and other girly stuff. I bought the boots while we were in Paris last year, and they are my most-worn shoes. After many fruitless shoe shopping trips to find ones I wanted to wear to the wedding, I decided to just wear them because they’re my favorite- I was so happy with that decision!

Thanks for everything, Geneoh and Ruffled!

  • Do you know if the farm is still available to rent for weddings? i couldn’t find contact information for them? Thanks!
