Garden Wedding at Terrain

What could be better than a garden wedding at Terrain? Today Amber Vickery is sharing Rachel and Jake’s late summer wedding at one of our favorite all-time venues. Terrain matches the couple’s aesthetic to a T, and we couldn’t be happier to see their relaxed style and enviable wedding decor.

From the bride, Rachel: We themed our wedding “Anthropologie-inspired, intimately romantic.” We wanted our wedding to feel like a big celebration, one big party! We wanted it to feel intimate and sweet. We wanted a rustic simplicity and wanted to let the beautiful surroundings of Terrain speak for itself. We went with earthy touches like succulents and herbs. We wanted a relaxed feel and envisioned our closest friends and family eating, laughing, dancing and toasting s’mores by the bonfire! We were prepared for a hot humid day in August with fans set at each seat during our ceremony but got so lucky with perfect 70s weather!

We went with shades of mint green and mint blues. With accents of sapphire blue and earthy peach and greenery. Also the kilts and Scottish traditions in our wedding ceremony came from my Scottish Father and our officiant is Scottish as well! We hand stamped our seating chart using a stamp from BHLDN and had our amazing forest put it together on burlap with a flower accent. My sister (MOH) and I hand spray painted mason jars gold and hand dipped them in gold glitter to be used on the tables. We also used our old candles from anthroplogie (after they were done we froze then and popped the out wax out, cleaned them and used them as vases!) We also had a Etsy vendor ship us a converted window into a chalkboard and we hung pictures of our beloved family and friends who we wish could have been there to celebrate with us. We also had our awesome friend and Pastry Chef Angela Ferri create a ice cream cake for us. We love ice cream and wanted to incorporate it into our wedding and who doesn’t love ice cream cake! The small wedding cake we cut was a banana cake and then we served different flavored ice cream cake.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Be yourselves! Don’t worry about what you should or should not do for a wedding and do what means something to you and your Husband and family. We had a unconventional uneven number of bridesmaids/groomsmen and let the bridesmaids pick their own dresses. At the end of the day its between you and your husband and celebrating the love that you share and all those you love and do life with! Don’t stress or over plan, its not worth it and everything works out in the end! We vowed at the begining of our wedding planning journey to roll with the punches and not do wedding planning 24/7! We planned our wedding in 5 months… it’s totally doable! Hire people you trust and have the same style/theme you are looking for so that you can relax and let them do their job and trust it will be beautiful! Enjoy every second of the process and the few precious days with everyone you love all together! It goes by so fast and is truly one of the happiest best days of your lives and the start of the best years of your life!

From the photographer, Amber Vickery: Rachel and Jake’s oh-so-Anthropologie inspired wedding at Terrain at Styers in Pennsylvania was so lovely and rich in traditions, including a very Scottish ceremony. I loved that the bride’s father put her shoes on and the groom took them off for the ceremonial foot bath. All of the details were planned out perfectly, from the gorgeous florals to the s’mores at the end of the evening and even homemade mac n cheese served at dinner. It was such a perfect cozy summer wedding and I’m so thrilled to have been able to document it!
