Patricia + Dennis’s Surrealist Session
This engagement session is off the hook! Inspired by this painting, the couple fearlessly trusted the talented photographer Caroline Ghetes‘s idea and incorporated coffee bean bags into the shoot, along with a vintage mask and other props I have never seen in an engagement session before. I truly believe that a photographer’s creative freedom is always for the best interest of the couple, and it never fails. I am in awe with the result!
Originally, their idea was to do a “The Notebook” inspired shoot, in a more modern way and we accomplished that with about half the pictures. I’ve also always wanted to inject a few strange ideas into an engagement session with a willing couple and some of these ideas/concepts were inspired by one of my favorite artists: Rene Magritte. In so many ways, we are alike in that the type of photography that I love the most, are the ones that when the viewer looks at a photo, they are left confused. Non-sensical & whimsical poses with no idea or concept or story behind it.
The photo on the right translates Caroline’s inspiration from Rene Magritte’s painting Les Amants:
These last two look like fashion designer ad campaigns:
Vintage refurbished umbrella: Designs By Victoria
Creepy 1920’s style mask & fuchsia w/pink ribbon top hat: D. Cyzon’s Flapperdashery
Gray top hat with black feather: Hey Sailor! Hats
The grayish green Shrug with Black Lace sleeves: Angelika Liv
Adorable couple! These pictures are so great and fun!
LOVING THIS SESSION! thanks for sharing!:)
It really takes special photography genius to capture such amazing pictures and Caroline definitely achieved it with these shots. Love, Love, LOVE !!
Hey thanks for the feature, and to everyone else with their lovely comments, thank you!
Love how creative this session is!! Big props to the couple for trying something totally different!
AMAZING!!! And thank you for the artist inspiration as well. I am so intrigued by this style of painting!
Love these fabulous photos! That umbrella is great!
Wow! These are very interesting and unique. Lovely!
I haven’t been wow’d by an engagement session in a while, but this one did the trick, I love it!
The picture with him jumping up is fantastic! What an incredible session!
This is, hands down, my favorite engagement session I’ve ever seen! Thanks for sharing these images, Amanda! I’m in total awe!
I am sad I was too busty for the Corey Lynn Calter corseted striped dress, but she pulls it off beautifully.
I love this set!!!!!
Um… Wow, I have to say I feel so honored to have our Engagement session featured on here and have Jen@GreenWeddingShoes comment on our Session… My fiance and I check your blogs just about every single day! Thank you for the feature! Props to Caroline (She’s pretty much amazing!) Hope our wedding gets featured as well 🙂
All I can say is WOW! What a “gutsy” and artsy photo shoot. I have never seen anything like it. Congrats and all the best to Dennis and Patricia. If you haven’t checked out their wedding pics on here and that FABULOUS wedding trailer video (it left me in tears), it’s a MUST! Absolutely gorgeous couple, venue, and wedding with incredible attention to detail. My fiance’ and I are planning a small intimate vintage-themed wedding…just us actually. We’ve both been married before. However, if I could have another “real” wedding, I’d be inspired to have something as close to their as possible (sans the shoes…I’m 47…LOL). ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!
WOW!!! great representation of surreal art! LOVE IT 🙂
Really lovely photos.
