Moody Burgundy Wedding with Modern and Abstract Details
Our current state of affairs? Washing away the Monday blues with this black and burgundy wedding in Perth, Australia. Captured by Alannah Liddell Photography, Michelle and Scott’s day elicited a sense of moody romance at its core. We definitely did a double take the first time we laid eyes on the circular abstract ceremony backdrop from Maisey Collections! The couple’s shared love of a certain Mr. Bruce Springsteen is equally inspiring, and if you think their wedding playlist was lit with classic rock’n’roll throwbacks, we’re pleased to say affirmative.
Michelle’s custom made gown from Paula & Jo is pretty marvelous. And by pretty we mean, “the most.”
We’re also totally crushing on the contempo bouquets from Styled Notion, which make a pretty rad statement against the black + white color scheme.
Mix + match font styles are a current fav of ours, so you can bet your bottom dollar this chic monochromatic suite from State of Reverie is being bookmarked.
From the bride, Michelle: We live down south, Scott is from Pemberton and I lived in Margaret River for 6 years – we are very much down south folk! We chose Perth mostly so that we could have our ceremony in a place that’s very close to my heart. We chose Lalla Rookh as the reception venue because we love the vibe – the restaurant feels quite romantic and moody, plus authentic Italian!
Our wedding style was contemporary and moody. Black and white styling, with gold, LOTS of candles, quite elegant and luxe. The flowers were jewel-toned with dark shades of burgundy and aubergine.
The spot we chose to say our vows is the place where my late father’s ashes are scattered. My dad passed away suddenly a few years ago and we were very close, so this was my way of making it feel like he is there with us on the day. It is also a really beautiful location and very special to my family.
Our first dance was a song by Bruce Springsteen called Happy – when we met we bonded over our mutual love of Springsteen. We are both HUGE fans – I’ve seen him live in concert 3 times and Scott has seen him 4! Our leaving song was Born to Run and our cake cutting song was Hungry Heart. Our first dance was the song Scott proposed to, Someone Like You by Van Morrison. The songs we played at the ceremony as the guests waited for the bridal party to arrive were all my best friends’ wedding songs. I wanted them to be reminded of their own special moments since the day is not just about Scott and I – it’s about all love in general!
Holy sucre! I’m not sure we’d be able to eat this painterly cake from Sukar with jewel-toned + metallic brushstrokes. It’s too darn photogenic!
