Marsala is a color that continues to inspire, and we’ve never seen it look so good as it does paired with copper in today’s styled shoot. Kai Heeringa Photography, Ideal Events & Design, and Damsel Floral Co. created a styled wedding that brings together both traditional romance and also modern design ideas for a look that’s truly captivating.
From the event designer, Rebecca of Ideal Events & Design: Inspiration for this shoot came initially from the Pantone Color of the Year, marsala. This color choice has been the subject of many heated blog posts and designer discussions! When I first heard the color choice, I was taken aback, feeling like many that it seemed dated. However, whenever a color of the year is announced, we always see it used as varied shades through the design world and no one can argue that shades of maroon, burgundy, and fig have been used more often lately. So I chose to use a variation of marsala as an accent in a wedding designed to take place between the transitioning of seasons from winter to spring. Icy gray linens with lots of candlelight, thick oriental rugs, and a cocktail station are a nod to warm winter nights by the fire, while blush pinks, lots of greenery, and tulips hint of the spring to come.
Bouquet recipe: Kaci of Damsel Floral put together the loveliest floral arrangements, starting with an amazing bridal bouquet of ranunculus, veronica, tulips, roses, protea, and campsis. The trailing ribbons were the final touch that made me fall head over heels for the bouquet.
The icy gray linens from Special Occasions West set off the perfect amount of shimmer and the fig napkins matched the place card envelopes perfectly. These envelopes, beautifully calligraphed by Emilie of Lief Design, contained the evening’s menu card. A simple but dramatic touch to add on each place setting. The table runner of eucalyptus smelled amazing and only needed a collection of candlesticks from Events by I.Candy to be completed.
Our bride and groom, both ballet dancers, were a stunning couple. The bride was dressed in a lace Rosa Clara gown from Renee Austin Wedding. This classically beautiful dress needed no other adornment, especially with the romantic hairstyle and gorgeous makeup from Whitney and Sarah at Brindle & Blonde. And yes, that is all the model’s real hair! The groom was outfitted in a classic suit from AK Rikk’s. My favorite detail of his outfit was the small blue pin on his lapel. The Studio at AK Rikk’s is an amazing space – with both modern and classic elements, so many weddings and events would work perfectly here. The moulding makes the walls anything but basic and natural light streams in through a wall of windows. Every detail was captured beautifully by Kai Heeringa Photography. The invitation suite, with shades of blush pink and fig, was designed by Ideal Events & Design and addressed in the most gorgeous calligraphy from Lief Design.
