Italian Marbling Inspired Beach Wedding
Lovers of the color blue, prepare to see it used to perfection. This wedding from Cambria Grace Photography and Foret Design Studio uses marbled paper across the board, from wedding invitations to escort cards to table runners, and we just love the effect. Let’s take a peek!
Colin and I knew we wanted to get married on the Cape — it was our happy place, the place where we’d spent every summer since we met. But we didn’t want an anchors-and-seahorses affair. We wanted it to feel organic, like we scooped up the sea and invited it to dinner (albeit with 150 of our closest friends and family). At the time, I was working as the Editorial Director for the website Rue La La. Our seasonal creative direction was brilliant. The sets were these artful masterpieces full of swirling painterly blues. They reminded me of the inside of the local mussel shells that scatter the beach here, and, less abstractly, of Italian marbled paper (fittingly, where we were honeymooning). I had been searching for inspo for so long that Pinterest and I had become quite intimate, so I knew right away: this was it. I ordered a boatload of Italian marbled paper in shades of blue and sand, then set to work DIY-ing 150 (!!) mini marble envelopes to use as place cards.
We used the same marbled paper as a runner for our head table, styled by the beyond-talented duo at Foret Design Studio. The Foret ladies were full of creative ideas, like actually printing our menus on napkins. Half of our guests took theirs home. The four courses were hand-written in indigo brush lettering, then screen-printed on fabric and hand-tied onto our white linens. Other details rounded out the day: mussel shells topped our trio of wedding cakes, hand-dyed ribbons fluttered from the chairs during our beach ceremony, dip-dye watercolor papers marked each table… not to mention Foret’s spectacular organic florals. The day itself was exactly what we hoped for: 100% sun, surprisingly few sunburns, and so much love. In true Cape Cod fashion, we capped off the night with a beach bonfire and s’mores. Our photographer Cambria Grace captured it all magically (I never thought I would drop words like “magically” and mean it, but Cambria is just that good). And our team at the Wychmere made sure everything went off without a hitch — even the moment my bridesmaid broke her nose (that, my friends, is a story for another time).
