Wythe Hotel Brooklyn Elopement

Nobody does elopement photography better justice than Pat Furey. This particular wedding at Wythe Hotel was about as chic as they come, with the photographers as the only witness. The newlyweds spent their post-ceremony bliss on the hotel rooftop, sipping cocktails and taking in the sweet sunset.

From the bride, Amber-Leah: In short, our vision for our wedding was to have it be about us. We married on a Tuesday on the third anniversary of the day we met in our favourite city. Our goal was for our day to be carefree, non-traditional, playful, intimate, and experiential. The idea of eloping was one we discussed before our engagement but weren’t sure we would have the guts to go through with it. Eloping requires a certain level of self indulgence that took some time to become comfortable with. We did not have a true elopement in the sense that it was announced to all well in advance. We wanted to keep with some traditions: a proper dress, a dapper suit, a bouquet (although we decided skip it a few days beforehand), a cake (that we forgot in the hotel room to eat later while talking to our parents on speaker phone), and a personalized ceremony. Our choice in photography was a true blessing and contributed to the fun vibe we imagined (the bottle of bourbon they brought us may have helped). Jeddah was also amazing and managed to perfectly capture our relationship with her ceremony despite meeting us for the first time moments before. We regret nothing and would do exactly the same tomorrow if we were lucky enough to repeat the experience!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Be a bit selfish and do what you want to do! Don’t worry about everyone else – your families and friends will be happy that you are happy! Decide in advance what is important to you and spend your budget accordingly. Research and hire fantastic vendors (our photography and celebrant short lists were longer than we care to admit but we were lucky to agree on and hire our top choices!). Above all, roll with the punches! The first things that went to the wayside for us were ironically those that I had poured the most Pinterest hours and stress into and no one noticed (not even me). Very little of our day went exactly to plan and it was better for it!

We intended to incorporate Kishi Bashi’s song ‘Manchester’ into our ceremony but we forgot. It may have been sung while walking the streets of Brooklyn with our photographers (apologies to Pat & Claire!).
