Tuscan Inspired Terrain Wedding

A wedding inspired by Mediterranean colors at Terrain is always a good thing and in the case of Phoebe and Tim’s wedding, it’s a great thing. Ali & Paul Co. were the maestros behind the camera for their big day, catching shots of the organic-colored, Sicily-inspired wedding day. The deep and rich hues from this wedding are a match made in heaven with the venue, to say the least, and Katie Rebecca Events worked wonders to fuse everything together so effortlessly! Weddings like these are certainly a few of our favorite things.

From the bride, Phoebe: I always wanted something that was lush with greenery and botanicals. Tim’s grandfather came from Sicily, so we wanted to capture some of that feel, with the ash-green leaves and oranges. I love the juxtaposition of masculine hues with touches of light, feminine colors, so the palette of dark emerald, navy, apricot, and cream worked perfectly. I showed Katie, our wedding planner, some ideas of things I liked, but then she took those ideas and ran with them — and produced something amazing! We gave her style guidelines, but in the end, we trusted her eye and her expertise and gave free reign to her to create and pull together all the details.

Tim and I both have a sibling that was not part of the direct wedding party. However, my brother and Tim’s sister are very important to us, so we wanted to include them in a very special way. They not only read passages during the ceremony, but they also gave speeches, in addition to our maid of honor/best man, in lieu of traditional parent/family speeches. My brother’s speech was unexpectedly laugh-out-loud hilarious and the big hit of the night! Also crazy is the story of my wedding cake: Several years ago, I was a food editor for Cooking Light magazine. I’m very picky about my desserts, so my dear, dear ex-coworker Deb (who is an amazing pastry chef) handmade the personal coconut cake and shipped it to us overnight from Birmingham, AL!

The hanging florals Terrain created for the reception were amazing! I also loved my bouquet — it was so heavy because of just how full Terrain’s floral design team packed it! It’s hard to narrow it down, but I have to also mention the tables/place settings. The napkins + goblets + gold flatware + candles + foliage and oranges was everything that I was hoping for. Katie of Katie Rebecca Events and her team totally delivered.

I think the best moments were when you KNEW you made the right choice because they just GET you. This was especially true when talking to our ceremony vendors. Our officiant, Donna, really wanted to tell our story and write a custom ceremony that was very personal, which was exactly what I had always hoped for. I wanted the ceremony music to be very us, which wasn’t the traditional songs or hymns but also nothing dance-down-the-aisle crazy either! Our musicians, Shawn and Sharon, made the perfect suggestions right away. I fell in love with their rendition of Bob Dylan/Adele’s “To Make You Feel My Love” as soon as I heard it — gave me goosebumps!

Tim and I did a first look. In the nearly 9 years we’ve been together, I’ve barely seen Tim get emotional. He did when he turned around and saw me. It’s funny — I cry a lot at my friends’ weddings, but I didn’t even shed a tear at mine… just lots of laughter! Tim and I are not dancers, so we took classes, like many couples. We only were able to make it to two classes, though, so we were very worried we were going to mess up the steps, even though it wasn’t a true choreographed dance (it was just the rumba). So after photos, while our guests were still at cocktail hour, we snuck into the reception area and practiced like crazy, haha. Lastly, I didn’t expect our father/daughter or mother/son dances to be so emotional. I kept cracking jokes so my dad wouldn’t be too sad. He’s pretty stoic in person.

From the photographers, Ali & Paul Co.Tim & Phoebe wanted a Tuscan inspired wedding surrounded by their closest friends and family. They shared 8 years together and finally planned the wedding of their dreams, thanks to the help of wedding planner, Katie Rebecca. They tied together her favorite color palette of navy, emerald and apricot and created a dreamy reception space filled with citrus and olive leaves. From hand painted wedding invitations, floral creations by Terrain, and mini bottles of Limoncello with custom watercolor and calligraphy tags in place of a seating chart, the details pulled everything together perfectly!
