Roundhouse Beacon Wedding

Weddings are always cause for celebration, but Ning and Alex’s wedding may have been one of the most jubilant weddings we’ve seen – due in no small part to the fact that the groom had a freak skiing accident and nearly lost his life a few months before the big day. Family and friends came together to celebrate life and love decked out to its finest by Steven Bruce Design, and Pat Furey was there to capture it all!

From the bride, Ning: My (now) husband and I wanted a fun, low-key wedding, with an aesthetic I like to call “rustic chic.” It really highlighted the venue’s beautiful juxtaposition between natural elements of the waterfall and use of wood with a modern touch from the cool fixtures and funky furniture. Neither of us wanted anything extravagant or over-the-top, but wanted our guests to feel warm and welcomed to our big day.

Our guests and we have used the words “warm,” “colorful,” “organic” to describe our wedding. We wanted to have a color palette for our wedding party that would highlight the flowers and other colorful elements that our florist provided. That being said, we chose gray for our wedding parties to wear–any shade and style to allow our wedding party to express their style and be comfortable in what they wore. We added touches of green to the color scheme because gray and green complement each other so well, plus my husband’s eyes are green. 🙂 As for DIY projects, we ordered wildflower seed paper for our escort cards, printed and cut them out at home to be displayed on shepherd hooks in beautiful repurposed wine boxes that our florist had. We also had my cousin write the program, donation sign, and card basket in her beautiful handwriting on chalkboards. For the flowers, we emphasized whatever was in season, focusing on peonies. We also added a personal touch with little toy dinosaurs in the boutonnieres and hidden in the bridal bouquet.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Enjoy the planning process, as stressful as it may get. It’s all worth it in the end. Try to express who you are as a couple in your wedding, but don’t get too caught up in the details.
