Old Charm New York Wedding Inspiration

There’s a lot to love about today’s styled shoot from Julia Elizabeth Photography, Polka Dot Events, and Rose Red and Lavender, but at the top of the list is how very “New York” the whole thing feels. Architectural elements, a chic nearly monochrome color palette, and a super stylish couple bright everything together for a shoot that encapsulates the best of both old and new New York.

From Julia Elizabeth Photography: When Tracey Goldstein of Polka Dot Events and I first started discussing the feel for our shoot, we touched upon a growing trend with her clients requesting a wedding design that is inherently New York City without being too theme-y or outdated. Once we visited 190 North, a newly opened Williamsburg, Brooklyn venue with its modern Brooklyn architecture mixed with vintage New York accents, our vision of combining old and new came to life, hence the name “Old Charm, New York.”

We gathered some of our favorite NYC vendors and gave them a little background on our “couple”: Late 20s to early 30-something modern Brooklynites, throwing an intimate winter wedding at 190 North. They love how the space’s soft color palette and wainscoting plays off the industrial garage door windows and brick accent walls, and want to highlight these features with minimalist floral and décor that is both sophisticated and understated. Their color palette is dusty blue, gray, white with accents of gold and natural greenery. Then we let all the vendors do their thing! Park Slope’s Lion in the Sun custom designed the stationery suite with a Brooklyn map overlay sitting atop a simple cardstock designed with a nod to 190 North’s geometric door patterns and mix of modern and traditional fonts. The monogram was designed by Allison Steinfeld and the black envelopes were graced with white hand calligraphy by Laurel Hansen.

Stylist Allison Koehler dressed the bride in two Limor Rosen gowns that brought our her modern day edge while still holding onto a classic bridal look. First a romantic low back dress with a long lace train for the ceremony, followed by a playful beaded silk gown for the reception. Her hair and makeup was styled natural and soft by Stacey and Gabby of Once Upon a Bride and all the jewelry and rings were supplied by Mociun in Williamsburg. Not to be outdone, the groom wore a midnight blue tuxedo from The Black Tux. Our florist Rose, Red and Lavender created an asymmetrical sculptural backdrop for the ceremony made from greenery and gold leaf accents. The same look was carried into the bride’s simple posy bouquet, and combined with white flora and succulents. Post-ceremony, we took photographs in front of the classic 1969 Checker Taxicab from FilmCars and amongst the beautifully refurbished vintage chairs by Jessica Allyn.

Our vision for the tablescape was simple yet edgy. We selected metal frame barn tables and gunmetal tolix chairs from Broadway Party Rentals, and we dressed them with a dusty blue satin runner, black and white coup china, crystal stemware and a mix of ultra-modern and ornate gold flatware. For the tablescape we used geometric gold candleholders and simple white roses in bud vases from RRL. Dish Food & Events created the gorgeous (and delicious) charcuterie spread. And what’s a wedding without a yummy dessert bar? Our adorable simple cake designed by Luckybird Bakes was the perfect compliment to the incredible dessert corner by Erin Emmett of Sweet Pistachio. We’re so proud of all the talented New York City vendors we were able to bring together to create such a sought after look. Thank you for helping us bring the vision to life!
