Industrial Bohemian Geode Wedding

Ready for a dose of boho inspiration? Enter this styled shoot from Laura Kelly Photography and Presh Floral, inspired by a nephew’s love of rocks and gems. The team added in a two-piece bridal combo, a wildflower bouquet, and a macrame table runner to bring the bohemian inspiration full circle, and we adore the result. Don’t miss the incredible cake with a marbled design and geometric elements!

From the event stylist and floral designer, Presh Floral: The inspiration for this shoot came from an unusual place – my seven-year-old nephew. When I asked what he wanted for his upcoming birthday, he responded “rocks and gems.” In pursuit of such a gift I headed to a rare mineral store in downtown Ottawa where I browsed through beautiful raw gems. As I read about the meanings attributed to different stones it occurred to me they could be incorporated into wedding decor as interesting and meaningful symbols.

In a sense, finding the perfect life partner bears much similarity to uncovering a hidden gem. The aim for the shoot was to highlight subtle ways to include minerals in wedding details like jewellery, the tablescape, invitations, and cake without it coming across as an obvious theme. When deciding on a colour palette I wanted to do something more unusual for weddings and opted for complementary shades of topaz and amethyst, which coincidentally happen to be my husband’s and my birthstones. For the venue, I wanted something raw and industrial to complement the mineral details. Zibi, an in-progress redevelopment project which has recently started hosting events, provided the perfect warehouse backdrop for the shoot.

The tablescape had an eclectic and earthy vibe complemented by a gorgeous macrame runner from Amy and Jen Decor topped with living plant arrangements. The rock texture on the invitation suite was hand drawn by Ink Blossom and its geometrical detailing coordinated perfectly with the stunning cake from the Cake Whisperer. For bridal styling I wanted to highlight the talents of Ontario designers. We opted for an unconventional crop top Maureen Patricia ensemble from the Handmade Bride and accessorized with a raw gem Liana Marie necklace and Rare Minerals earrings from Victoire Boutique. Showpony Hair gave our short-haired model Laura an edgy updo while One Fine Beauty did the perfect amethyst-toned smokey eye. The Presh Floral bridal bouquet was composed almost entirely of local, organically grown flowers and foliage and tied with reclaimed silk sari ribbon from Silk & Willow. The talented Laura Kelly Photography captured the scene perfectly, especially at the end of the shoot when she brought out some seriously contagious laughter and smiles from our model.
