Adelaide Hills Wedding with Natural Materials

Every time I look at this wedding from White Wall Photography, it just feels like a breath of fresh air. Katrina and Jason, both designers, wanted their day to be full of organic, natural materials, and to be as locally sourced as possible. Pair this with an autumnal palette of rich colors, and you’ll see why we keep coming back for more!

From the bride, Katrina: Ours was an Australian winery wedding set in the humble Adelaide Hills. We wanted the wedding to feel local and relaxed, where we tried to meet a compromise between tradition and modern design elements. We used autumnal tones in our flowers, paper goods and small details of burnt orange, deep reds, bright yellows and olives. We incorporated natural textured fabrics and materials including kraft, calico, flax, linens, uncoated paper stock and deep timbers.

Wedding bouquet: Our flowers were a beautiful mess of dahlias, billy buttons, seasonal fruits and berries, eucalyptus… We were blown away by how perfectly our florist (Poppies Flowers) was able to take our shambles of a brief and turn it into magic.

Jayse is a Designer and designed our paper goods that were letter-pressed by Mama’s Sauce. A very lovely (and very patient) friend of ours with great handwriting penned or place cards and seating chart. We sourced most of our decorations/props from flea markets, garage sales, the internet and my personal favourite, etsy. I made the roof himmelis and countless candles. Jayse’s dad is a super talented craftsman and knocked us together a myriad of pieces including our signing table, cake table and benches, planter boxes and the impressive arbor, which was then decorated by my mum and sister. He even painstakingly wallpapered our photo-booth! My mum baked our moreish Greek treats, which were no more by midnight. We are so chuffed to have such a supportive bunch of friends and family who could see through the madness and made it to the night before the big day to hang lights, arrange napkins and generally have fun with it!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t get caught up thinking about what a wedding should be. If the direction and choices you have made feel right, then it is. Slow down and remember that the wedding ends at midnight but the marriage lasts a lifetime.
