A Breakfast Wedding in Texas

I love breakfast, I love weddings, and I love happy people, so this next wedding from Feather & Twine Photography was a no-brainer. Lauren and Chase styled their Texas wedding on their own, using items and decor found from their years spent thrifting together. This is such a great way to make sure your wedding day is full of personality, we couldn’t wait to share!

From the bride, Lauren: There were a couple of things I knew for sure after getting engaged. First was that I wanted a morning wedding with breakfast. Second, I didn’t want it to be very traditional — or at least I wanted to discard the stuff I find uncomfortable at weddings. Location was a bit more difficult to decide on, until we accidentally stumbled upon Pecan Grove Pavilion in Driftwood, Texas. I knew the second I stepped on the property that I wanted to get married there. A creekside ceremony coupled with the indoor barn pavilion was just ideal, plus their in-house catering company designed a custom breakfast menu based on my suggestions. The menu was so good, featuring brisket and gravy stuffed Texas toast and fried chicken & sweet potato waffles, just to name a couple. For dessert we served donuts and pastries.

Chase and I love thrifting so we decided to do most of the venue styling ourselves. We found fun vintage mugs and displayed them on a beautiful wood piece that Chase designed and his father constructed. We had a “living room” set up with furniture we thrifted to make the space feel a bit cozier. I wanted everything very simple for the tablescapes. We used these neat “sugar molds” (as the antique dealer called them) and cement planters filled with succulents for our centerpieces, along with old bottles and a few daisies. We planted 120 succulents ourselves a couple weekends before the wedding. I picked and put together all of the flowers myself. One of my favorite things we created was the living wall, which was an old rusted mattress spring that we turned into a living succulent garden. We had a team of people (including my groom and his groomsmen) working for only 2 short hours to get the venue set up early the morning of. His parents drove a trailer full of stuff from Dallas to make our reception area look like the magical vintage playground it turned out to be.

The day of was perfect. Filled with so much joy. I wrote the majority of the ceremony and we both wrote our own vows. There was a coffee hour where the guests showcased their mug pick. And of course we had bocce, corn hole, croquet and washers under the pecan trees. There was dancing and speeches, but we stayed away from grand entrances, first dances, bouquet toss/garter and cake cutting. For the exit, we sped off in the same truck his parents left their wedding in. It was the best day ever. Relaxing, simple, joyful, and fun. It was exactly as we had imagined and more.
