Raise your hand if you got the images from your photographer and have yet to make your album! I won’t even tell you how many years it took me to make ours (guilty as charged!) but I’ll tell you that The Wedding Shop by Shutterfly is here to change that. If you’re feeling totally overwhelmed on where to begin designing your album, we’re sharing a few easy tips to make sure your wedding photos don’t get stuck on a hard drive forever!

From ordering your album to getting that orange package at your doorstep, making a high-quality album no longer has to cost an arm and leg and take several weeks to receive it. We created two different albums with two of our most recent weddings (see here and here) and utilized two different routes to design them: Make My Book and Simple Path, which I’ll explain below.

To hit the ground running with ordering your album, I recommend setting a timer and picking 100-150 fave photos from your wedding. Grab your spouse and go! You can always add more images + pages later but at least you’ll avoid feeling overwhelmed reviewing and managing potentially repetitive pages.

One of my favorite features is the layflat page option, which is a game changer if you want your album to feel and look luxe. These are double thick pages with premium professional grade paper that used to be available only through photographers a few short years ago, which were crazy expensive). Totally worth the relatively small upgrade from regular pages for a wedding album.

Because you’ll always have access to your album projects in your Shutterfly account, you can quickly reorder the book if it ever gets lost or damaged or if you need doubles for your parents, a new book is just a few clicks away. They come in different size options and finishes such as flat or glossy. Here we used the 11×14 and 8×11 sizes to show you how they look.

For Elky and Ale’s wedding album, we used the Simple Path route, which automatically organizes your photos in chronological order in the album, so it gives you a place to start, but you can customize further on your own. I customized a few pages manually using the gold embellishments and tweaked a few page layouts. The full two- page bleed is a show stopper for those wow photos from your wedding.

For Kate and Philip’s wedding shown below, we took full advantage of The Wedding Shop’s Make My Book service. You answer a few quick questions about what you like and don’t like, pick an album style and their designers will design the album for you. In just 3 days, you will get your album layout done for you, and if you like it, you pay just $9.99 for the service when you order the album.

While at it, we ordered All Things Wedding Mix & Match Stationery Set. It’s a set of 3×5 cards that comes with up to 12 different designs, but you can choose to order different permutations and quantities of whichever designs you’re most interested in. The Wedding Shop offers various thank you card designs and styles for you to explore so you can show your gratitude in style!

Don’t forget to order prints! We ordered ours with a matte finish and white border and quickly became fans of the wallet size prints – perfect to share with family too since you get 4 of each. We like to order our sets of prints in a couple of different sizes so whenever you find that unique frame you have the perfect photo to display in it.

The best part of ordering your custom album through The Wedding Shop is that you can either make your album design as complex as you’d like since their range of options is very large, or you can be more hands off and let them design it for you if you feel like it’s out of your wheelhouse. The big takeaway here is that you can have a modern, solid album for a fraction of the cost. Take a look at The Wedding Shop and don’t forget to also add their coupon codes for a sweet deal 🙂
