DIY Wooden Clothespin Cake Toppers
Our next DIY project from our Creativebug series are these sweet little clothespin cake toppers inspired by a class on their site. If you guys aren’t yet familiar with Creativebug, it’s a one-stop online class site for DIYers and a great tool for anyone with a penchant for unique handcrafted wedding details.
We made three different cake topper couples experimenting with different media. The class gives LOTS of helpful tips, from paint mixes to achieve a variety of skin complexions to how to properly glue the pieces on the clothespins. All of these seemingly little details that not only save you time but also materials = money.
Taking inspiration and tips from the class, we got creative and used what we already had in our office. We used kraft paper to make a khaki suit for one of the grooms, navy blue paint for a preppy, bow-tied gent, and scrap pieces of felt for a winter look for another groom. You can have fun with them and use what you have around your craft bin already to match your own wedding look. For the brides, we used scrap pieces of tulle, cotton and satin, but also made a wedding gown out of paper doily – you can use a cd as template for a full skirt!
Creativebug has over 600 online classes complete with list of materials, tips and detailed instruction videos that will teach and inspire you to spark a project to make your own! You can also download the classes in PDF format for offline reference. The classes vary from beginner to more advanced levels, so there’s a project for everyone.
If you have attempted a DIY before, you probably know it usually takes longer engineering a plan than tackling itself. At just $4.95 a month, you can save yourself hours from trying to figure things out on your own and learn tips from the pros. Check out all of their wedding classes here.
