Must Make! Modern Alphabet Tile Signage DIY

Today’s DIY is all about making a fresh and modern spin on the good old bunting flags. We were inspired by this minimalist menu display after spotting this trend in our favorite coffee shops! We collaborated with boss stylist Marisa Nicole Events to create a monochromatic menu-like letter display in two different scenes to show just how versatile this DIY alphabet tile signage can be with our friends at Fiskars. We’re always aching for bright pops of color, and Birds of a Feather was able to capture all this botanical eye candy from Of the Flowers.

Supplies You’ll Need:

Before you start printing, go ahead and figure out how many of each letter you will need and print accordingly. We used cream 8.5″x11″ cardstock and cut each sheet in half lengthwise and then width-wise using our .

Decide what style signage you will make. Here Marisa Nicole Events created two different styles, individual alphabet tiles as well as one full length that sits on a ledge.
The letter tiles need to be light yet sturdy, so we recommend Balsa wood or chipboard sheets. For the ceremony set-up, you can use 4×6 chipboard sheets OR cut balsa wood strips into individual pieces slightly larger than our paper letters via several runs with Fiskars Easy Change Detail Knife. For our sweets set-up, you can use a 10-pack of balsa wood sheets in 36”X6”.

This craft knife is a great for precisely cutting a wide range of materials such as cardstock, photos, canvas and more. It’s compatible with most blades and changing them is a breeze thanks to a blade change lock. You can adhere the letters onto the chipboards letters and cut the excess cardstock with the help of this knife.

Use matte mod podge or tacky spray to carefully adhere the paper letters to the wood.

Display your letters! For the ceremony set-up, we drilled small holes in the top of the wood in order to weave the fishing wire through the individual pieces. For our sweets set-up, the wooden sheets were tacked directly onto the wall, which was done with mounting putty so as to not damage the walls.

This display can be as grand or as minimalist as you’d like. Alphabet bunting hones in on the “less is more” concept with an aesthetic that’s consistently jaw-dropping and unique, and would look perfect in any type of event. I mean how cute would this be at a children’s birthday party and then in the nursery? Or as a dessert table menu then

  • My family just move to Maryland. I have a cousin that is hot on our heels to move into a new D.R. Horton home in Perry Hall. I like their homes but its hard for my to envision projects in a nice new home. Our home is older and offers a great outlet for our DIY addictions! Your site has so many fantastic projects that I think the misses will have be busy for… ever.
