Cinco de Mayo Wedding Ideas
Every year we look forward to May for one very special reason: Cinco de Mayo. As a holiday that celebrates Mexican heritage and pride, it’s a day full of bright colors and endless inspiration – even for the wedding world! Photographer Chelsea Scanlan put together this fantastic styled shoot chock full of Cinco de Mayo wedding ideas, and we’re completely smitten with every single one.
From the photographer, Chelsea Scanlan: While visiting the mainland in the spring, I thought it would be a fabulous time to do a little inspiration shoot that I have been dreaming up for a while. A Cinco De Mayo themed inspiration shoot – the festivities are known for bright colors and I thought it would be nice to use those bold colors in a wedding. We all love those pastel colored weddings, but I thought it would be lovely to add a pop of color that could still be fun, yet romantic and classy. I knew the beautiful desert with sage brush, mountains, a touch of gold, and a beautiful couple would be a dream.
With accents of bright oranges, reds, and pinks for the festivities, it was a fun blend of bright and pastel colors. The gold trim on the table along with an overabundance of colorful cacti and spring flowers made a classic, yet fun table for the bride and groom. A lantern and tall candles brought a little romance to the rustic setting. I had the beautifully talented Avie Designs provide a perfect invitation suite with a stunning cut out invitation in complementary colors that were a perfect bright introduction for guests to the theme of the wedding.
A simple, classic cake with spring flowers, including magnolias were all that were needed for a simple cake for a romantic, rustic wedding. Orange ombre drinks for cocktail hours or a toast served on a rustic gold tray would be a lovely unique add to the festivities. To bring in a bit of the traditional colors with a modern twist, the couple posed in front of a backdrop full of streamers of various colors – perfect for a fun ending to a wedding. I hoped this shoot would be a perfect blend of classic and a little twist of modern brightness for a fun Cinco De Mayo shoot that brides to be everywhere could enjoy and see that a little pop of color, or adding a little pastel to your wedding colors could be a fun and different twist this 2014.
