Announcing the Prizes: Silhouette Machine
As we all know, next week is the final and official DIY Contest kickoff. The prizes: first prize receives $500, second place a $300 gift certificate to Modcloth and third place a Silhouette Machine. I received one of these cutters for me to test, and once I got the hang of it nothing could stop me. All this time I was blaming my X-acto knife for jaggedy cuts in my DIY projects, and little did I know my craft knife was about to retire.
The machine looks like a printer, but is small enough that you can easily store it when not in use. Installing the software was a little tricky because the instructions manual that comes with it is for an older version of Windows, so if you’re on a Mac like me, I recommend skipping the manual and going straight to the help section. Otherwise it is pretty intuitive to use if you’re computer savvy. The software is very easy to use. It also comes with 50 free designs to cut. if you don’t feel like designing anything from scratch, they have an online store where you can purchase new designs, all at 99 cents each. You can also create designs from scratch and use fonts you already have installed in your computer – say hello, fancy fonts and dingbats!
I used one of their cupcake wrappers and it came out perfectly! You can enlarge the design by just dragging the mouse to the size desired using the grid in the background for proper measurement. It was a perfect fit for my giant Crumbs cupcake 🙂
Third place will receive the following:
- Silhouette machine
- Software for Windows XP/Vista, Mac
- Power cable, USB cable
- 2 Cutting mats (one for thick media, one for thin media)
- One cutting blade
- $10 gift card to the Silhouette Online Store
This is just a last taste of how great the prizes are. You have till Sunday, October 10th at midnight to send over your DIY project. It can be anything wedding related – from creative save-the-date ensembles to reception decor. Simply email me a list of materials (with links to where to find them), instructions, and 4-8 images that are at least 600 pixels wide to amanda at ruffledblog.com.
The Silhouette Machine folks are also giving a discount to Ruffled readers. Enter code RUFFLED to receive the following package: $50 off the Silhouette Craft Cutter, fuzzy white vinyl (Valued at $7.99) , light blue smooth heat transfer (Valued at 14.99), yellow flocked heat transfer (Valued at $14.99), home Décor CD (Valued at $50), $10 Gift Card to the Silhouette Download Store (Comes in the box), cutting Blade (comes in the box), 2 cutting mats (comes in the box) for $249.
This machine sounds amazing. What about the cutout “negatives”, would they be able to work for stencils and screen printing?
yes – it cuts vinyl, transparency sheets or other thicker media…virtually anything!
i need this – seriously what a dream!
This is a heaven sent!! I was eyeing the silhouette just 2 days ago and saw your promo code while doing my blog rounds! I jumped on the opportunity immediately. Im curious though, What’s the thickest media you’ve tried so far?
I played around with thick card stock so far. It comes with adjustable blade tips depending on how thick the material you’re going to use. My next project is glass etching!
Snap! My husband and I NEED this machine. It would be super awesome for our art. If I don’t win it, it’s for sure going on my Christmas list! LOVE IT!
How long will the promo code be good for?
I had no idea something like this existed — I love crafts, but scrapbooking just never caught my fancy. Contemplating buying one of these to make wedding invitations. Anyone have any experience making their own graphic design?
I want one of these! but I don’t have any work in progress pics!
That machine is really good. Wow! I think I need that. Pretty awesome!
I’ve been working with Amanda on the Silhouette machine giveaway. I just wanted to let you know that the discount promo runs through the 15th ending at midnight. It is a savings of $137.97! Pretty great for the holidays coming up, if you ask me! 😉 Hope that helps!
