An Art Nouveau Wedding

Hilary emailed me a few months ago when I was running the guest blogger contest, but since her wedding was so close (just married in December!) I patiently waited for her wedding photos. And boy, they are gorgeous! Faye Sommer did a wonderful job capturing their day.

We chose an Art Nouveau aesthetic because it represents one of the most exciting times in Dayton history- the birth of aviation. Our save the dates were bookmarks that had an aviation theme.

They took this photo in front of their house…how cute is that?

Their invitations were created by Etsy seller Ugly Kitty, whose I actually had a post lined up about these invites (that I found on the web…small internet world!).

The design is original to Renee (from Ugly Kitty), she designed them for us to match the Jewish inspired symbols carved on our house’s porch. Although I was hesitant to use a house as inspiration, Renee did it without question or complaint.

My bouquet was wrapped in my grandmother’s wedding handkerchief; my grandparents have been married over 60 years. The cakes were displayed on glass cake plates that we borrowed from Paul’s many aunts and grandmother. Overall, our wedding was everything we hoped it would be.

From the bride:

Our wedding is in a historic church- Hope Lutheran, that has been threatened by suburban flight and declining numbers. We chose Hope because we want to support their mission to restore and repopulate the church. We also tried to include modern touches to keep the wedding light and joyful.

Our spending priorities were quality photography, delicious food, and a non-for profit wedding venue. My dress, by San Patrick, was also a splurge. The church is historic Hope Lutheran and the reception was held at Cox Arboretum and Metropark. The flowers were done by our friend Mark, owner of the Flower Shoppe of Dayton. It was wonderful to have our family around us as we exchanged our vows.
