Woodsy Sunriver Resort Wedding

It’s no surprise that any wedding shot by Braedon Flynn Photography will stop me in my tracks, and Bill and Danielle’s wedding is no exception. With an Oregon forest as their backdrop, they brought the outdoors in flawlessly and kept an intimate feel throughout with lots of heartfelt touches. Many more images to pour over right here.

Bill + I met in the Great Northwest and we wanted to share a glimpse of our lives and the spectacular scenery with our family and friends. It was a brisk, rainy November day when we scouted Sunriver Resort – but we absolutely fell in love with the magical ambiance along the banks of the Deschutes River. We loved the element of surprise for our guests – walking across the bridge to an enchanted living room setting tucked away in the woods. Then, the moment we walked into the Great Hall, we were sold. We loved the rich character that came with the decades-old building – the grand ceiling, the exposed wood beams, the stone fireplace and balcony overlooking the party. It was just – us!

Bill + I love being in the outdoors – snowboarding, wakeboarding, hiking, biking. And we dig antiquing… finding hidden treasures in a sea of odds and ends. So for our wedding, we wanted a rustic and romantic vibe, a vintage and classic celebration. Our ceremony was UNREAL – it was more magical than we imagined. We glamed up the rough, woodsy elements of the forest with a chandelier and a couch to perch on. We wanted our wedding party to feel comfortable and intermingled as if they were in our own living room. The earthy elements continued into the reception –moss growing out of golden urns, pheasant feathers combined with the vintage cameras and candlelight.

Can you describe some of your favorite moments as you look back on your wedding day?
Walking over the bridge with my dad was just surreal. I was overwhelmed with emotions – I couldn’t believe the day had finally come. When we finally peaked over to the other side, I was in awe seeing our vision come to life. He was too. The moment I walked through those two trees and saw Bill…it was over. The tears started flowing and I couldn’t get through that tall grassy aisle any faster.

As for the DIY pieces, my mother is a rockstar. Seriously, she is so talented. She not only handmade all of our save the dates, invites, programs and menus but designed our rad table assignments. She created vintage lift tickets from all the resorts Bill + I have snowboarded at. Instead of having the traditional guestbook, my mom designed vintage postcards for guests to sign and send well wishes. Bill’s dad DIYed too – he carved our cake stand out of real wood. And he built our rustic sign post to lead guests to the festivities.

What were some of your favorite things about your wedding?

So many favorites… so here’s my top 3. We had a mirror hanging from a tree where we exchanged our vows. We wanted to see the faces of those who brought us together – it was a simple but special element that brought closeness to the ceremony. During our cocktail hour, we served french fries with our favorite Idaho “fry sauce” from our favorite restaurant. My DIY mom created cones with personalized labels for the appetizers – so cute and so delicious! Our guests “oohed and aahed” over a collection of vintage wedding photos from relatives. It was a tangible way to recognize those past and present and their influence on our lives.

  • What a beautiful wedding! The pictures were amazing and the styling of the wedding fit the location so perfectly! I noticed that she had her favorite “Idaho Fry Sauce” then saw that her dress was from Riannes Bridal in Coeur d’Alene Idaho and one of the ski resorts they had a postcard from was Lookout Pass which is nearby too, which is where I am from so I was curious if the bride and groom met in Coeur d’Alene or are from there, and also where the fry sauce comes from, I could put money on that it came from Hudsons 🙂
