West Texas Rustic Chic Wedding

Sarah and Neil’s wedding is the perfect example of compromise. The two wanted to blend their styles into a cohesive look, which ended up as a rustic and botanical inspired day spent among friends and family. Tack on photography from Ryan Price and you’ve got one doozy of a beautiful day!

From the bride, Sarah: Our entire wedding took place in the Texas hill country which lends itself to a more rustic look. The scenery around us made it easy to choose decorations that complimented how beautiful it was outside. We both wanted it to feel like a mix of both of our styles so we tried to keep that in mind while planning all of the details of our wedding.

More important than the style of our wedding was how it felt. We wanted it to be a very relaxing day that not only meant a lot to us but was also special for our family and friends. We are both from the same small town and grew up at the same church so there are many people that have invested in us and our relationship that we wanted there to celebrate with us. Keeping that in mind, many different elements of our wedding were chosen to make it feel like a big family celebration. We chose a venue that had cabins and a big lodge so our wedding party and family were all able to spend the entire weekend together. It made it so relaxing and helped everyone to bond closer together. Also, we really wanted to have long tables and serve the meal family style. It was so fun to pass platters of food around the tables. It really did feel like one big family dinner.

We both love so many different colors, so we ended up using the website, design-seeds.com, to help us decide what color scheme to go with. We chose a pallet that had green, yellow, grey and brown. All of the wedding decorations were DIY. WIth the help of my parents and family friends we stained the crates used at the ceremony, sewed all of the table clothes and runners, collected old green bottles and potted herbs to place on the tables. It was hard work but it was fun to see it all come together.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? One of the best things we did at the beginning of our engagement was make a priority list of things we wanted on our wedding day. For example, we knew we wanted to serve our guests dinner but having a big cake was lower on our list. It’s easy to get carried away in all of the planning and forget what is most important to you. It was so helpful to look back at that list whenever I found myself getting carried away with little details or towards the end of our engagement when we were running low on time. Some advice that some friends gave us was to take a moment during the reception to take everything in. I still remember that moment so clearly. Dishes and silverware were clinking while all of our guests passed around plates of food. Everyone was talking and laughing and we were surrounded by our closest friends. It was perfect.
