Combine that cunning artistic sensibility with an incredibly romantic venue, some dramatic florals and the photography of Oak Street Studio and you’ve got an event that’s sure to give you that ache of wedding romance in your chest. From the bride, Jessica. Perrin and I were engaged while on a walk in Fort Greene Park in our beloved Brooklyn neighborhood. We decided we wanted a fall wedding in New York City surrounded by our close friends; we wanted to host an event that felt inspired, personal and non-traditional but that paid homage to our old-world and classical aesthetics.

The Metropolitan Building in Long Island City, Queens, with its French chateau-inspired interior and eclectic antique furniture, turned out to be the perfect venue for us. The building is full of charming details that inspired the overall bohemian-chic aesthetic we wanted to create for the wedding.

Flanking the ceremony area were two large and urns blossoming with dahlias, olive branches, hydrangeas and roses, arranged within a soft tea-stained color palate. Floral artist Nicolette Camille created the larger arrangements, the bride’s and bridesmaids’ bouquets, as well as the boutonnières.

I brought my own antique touches to the overall muted tones of the décor by draping creamy lace with hints of silver over the guest tables; the lace helped to pick up on the soft glows of the mercury glass votives. Candlelight, white pumpkins and small apothecary jars of flowers made an appearance all throughout the venue. I designed the guest and reception table flower arrangements myself; I ordered flowers from NYC’s flower markets, purchased the antiqued urns several weeks before the wedding and my family assembled the arrangements the day before the event.

  • Everything is really gorgeous and trendy in its own way but you need to take some other factors into mind as well, like i was so worried about my wedding day and could not jot down all the ideas that i got in my mind. Its better to first get your ideas on paper mentioning what you want to do and what NOT.

  • oh my god the bouquets are stunning. i LOVE with the portrait of the bride on the chair. it’s very Frida

  • So lovely. The shot of the bride’s sister is amazing. The décor is dreamy. The bride, what can one say? Wonderful shot of her in the chair. I love how the bride and groom’s aesthetic was kept in mind.

  • OMG! The Architectural detail! No offense to jessica and Perrin. Then i went back and looked at the photos. several times. I love the setting, obviously. The group photo is wonderful. but the one of Jessica in the chair is so gorgeous and I am such a sucker for romance and weddings. And old buildings. And even more so now that my son is engaged. I forgot to get married, maybe that is part of the reason I love designing wedding accessories. I get to join in the fun and I then I peruse Wedding blogs and get myself into trouble because I am supposed to be working. I fall in love with all the young couples and wish I were their eccentric auntie who stifled the sniffles during the ceremony.

Thanks for the visual respite and dreamy photographs and joyful occasions. I need a tissue!

  • So interested how she made the large flower garland- love it and wondering what materials were used!!

  • So beautiful! The color scheme and location and all the details with the flowers are just lovely, and the photography is excellent. It looks like the wedding really suited the couple.
