Vintage Americana Chicago Wedding

What better time than now to share this totally patriotic and vintage Americana wedding in Chicago? Planner Molly Blonn of Soirée Weddings & Events was sure to make this wedding red, white and blue galore, while Kristen Lynn Photographie captured all of the vintage details and decor beautifully, along with some fun DIY super hero touches for the boys. I think it’s safe to say this couple has a lot of love for the 4th of July, comic books and, of course, each other!

From the bride, Lisa: My husband and I both have a love for Chicago. One of my favorite holidays is 4th of July; BBQs and sunshine make my heart flutter. David is an avid comic book collector and we both love things with historical reference and vintage flair. That is how we came about the idea of a Vintage Americana, comic book wedding in the windy city!

I am an interior designer and love to mix patterns and textures. I knew that I wanted my bridesmaid dresses to be show stoppers. I got busy to work finding the perfect dresses to create the look I wanted. I hired a design student from SCAD, Julie White, to create the dresses from vintage Vogue patterns. I sourced the fabrics and delegated which vintage patterns the girls had to choose from. Julie got to work and magic was made! Every time I look at the photos of the bridesmaids dresses it makes me smile, I am so happy with how they turned out.

The guys wore simple gray suits, but to pull in the comic book flair, myself and a friend made the boutonnieres from small pins with super hero symbols on them. We constructed them with wire, ribbon and the buttons then put a live flower in on the big day. Our little ring bearer was thrilled that he got to top off his seersucker pants and red bow-tie with Spiderman shoes. My mom made seersucker table runners and votive candles with comic book art modge podged on their surrounds. My bridesmaids and I made tons of pinwheels in patriotic patterns and colors.

We had a few vintage details that were close to heart, my engagement ring and wedding band was passed down from David’s late mother and our cake topper was from my late grandparents wedding in 1957, we were the third wedding to use it! My dress was from the fabulous designers of Fancy NY! The Swiss dotting pattern on my skirt was the delicate pattern I was craving. All in all, our wedding was full of so many personal touches, personal styles and truly was a reflection of us.
