Victoria Art Gallery Wedding

If retro is your thing, you’re going to love this next wedding. Amy and Matt were able to turn retro inspiration into modern chic, thanks to their own talented hands and minds. Captured by Ameris Photography, who caught every detail (of which there are plenty). Make sure you keep an eye out for the time capsule coordinated by the bridal party for the bride and groom – such a great idea!

From the bride, Amy: We wanted our wedding to feel intimate and representative of US – modern, downtown city feel with lots of DIY personal touches. Most of the wedding was DIY from the invitations to the favours. We did the graphic design for the save-the-dates, invites (inspired by Christian Robinson‘s work) and RSVPs and had them printed at a local print shop. I purchased the dress as a sample off the rack and completely rebuilt the skirt and added multiple layers of fabric. We made two panels for the backdrop that were collaged initials (A & M) made of black/white photos of each of us – A was all Amy photos and M was all Matt photos. The easels were made by my Dad. We designed the programs ourselves and just printed them out on a colour printer. We also put together the bells for guests by gluing bells to craft sticks and adding a ribbon.

For the reception, all the table numbers, seating cards were made from old library book loan cards, vintage 2nd hand shot glasses, chargers were old vinyl records with our menu pasted on top of the inner circle. Table floral were billy buttons and grass from Flowers On Top (Victoria) mixed with curly willow from the bride’s mother’s garden, arranged in mixed glass vessels collected over months by the bride and groom. Mother of the bride and groom composed the arrangements on the day-of. The guest book was a vintage dictionary – guests found a word that made them think of us, and then signed their names and wrote their message on that word’s page. We had red and white wine made locally and labelled them with our own designed labels, printed locally.
