Vancouver Urban Winery Wedding

Warm, inviting and very personal, this Vancouver urban winery wedding by styled by our Blue Label member Petite Pearl Events and Jaylena Photography was just that. Full of sweet details near and dear to their hearts, the bride and groom wanted their special day to feel like a big hug… and I’m sure their guests would agree that the feelings of love and comfort in the air felt like a warm embrace for each and every one of them.

From the bride, Jennifer: We wanted our wedding to feel like a hug. We wanted our guests to feel embraced, cared for and comfortable in every way. We did this through inserting thoughtful personal touches everywhere we could – and really taking the time to think about how we could make each piece from flowers to music to food reflect us as a couple. We also thought about our guests as individuals and tried to give each of them a little something that said we had them in our thoughts. We did this in little ways… like making sure my uncle who likes gin and tonic had the particular brand of tonic that he drinks at home, and including some songs by The Committments for our friends from Ireland, and so on. In this way, the style ended up being something totally unique to us as a couple and to our family and friends as a circle. If I had to describe it, the style was warm, modern, romantic and elegantly down to earth.

My very favourite, and most labour-intensive DIY had to be my bouquet, which I made with the help of my best girl friends. I had seen these lovely DIY paper flowers online that someone had made using old pages from a book. I took this a little further and typed up the inscriptions from all the cards that my husband had given to me over our 11 years together – from our first anniversary, to birthdays and Valentine’s Days – I’m lucky enough that my husband loves to write me long and really touching cards. Then I printed this document out onto some beautiful papers that I picked up from Paper Ya, an amazing paper goods store in Vancouver, and over the course of many nights my wonderful friends and I made them into a totally one of a kind bouquet. I love that so much love went into that piece. Both in John’s words but also in the time that my dearest friends spent making this with me. I loved it so much on our wedding day and now it’s something that we keep in our bedroom, and it makes me smile every time I see it. Defintely worth the effort.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Number one, breathe. Number two, hire people who’s work you love and who you can trust. Our vendors were so very amazing and made everything come together on our wedding day super smoothly. Lastly, try and remember that your wedding is about you and your spouse celebrating your love with the most important people in your lives. If you can remember that your day is all about love, hopefully that will help you to have fun through all the many steps and decisions leading up to your wedding day. And if that fails sometimes, and it did for us, be gentle with yourself, remind yourself that everything will work out and in the end you will have a great day, stories to remember forever and be united to the person of your dreams. How great is that?
