Modern Boho Wedding in Palm Springs

Bohemian Weddings

Palm Springs, California is known for a number of things, but in our circles it’s known first and foremost as a destination for some of the coolest weddings we’ve ever seen. Jared and Hollie’s wedding at The O’Donnell House was full of great design, quirkiness, and fun – the ideal recipe for an amazing day, especially when paired with the always-wonderful photography of EPlove!

From the bride, Hollie: Jared and I knew we wanted a party. We wanted an informal vibe with breathtaking views. It’s Palm Springs in November – so the weather doesn’t get any better than that. We wanted our friends and families who traveled to be there for our big day to relish in the beauty that is the California desert! I wanted to keep things simple, but provide opportunities for our loved one to create memorable moments!

Our wedding was easy breezy romantic with a rowdy-party vibe :) I told the girls to pick out their own dresses but asked to wear a natural soft neutral and the boys were asked to wear shades of grey. The venue grounds are SO INSANELY gorgeous that I just wanted to complement them. The homemade dreamcatchers – all 80 of them – were handmade by my mama! We found antique doliles on etsy; and the feathers/beads had been collected over many years by a friend who makes jewelry! The beautiful ceremony arch was hand carved out of wood by Jared’s brother!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? 1- Take dance lessons. It was the best thing for us. During all the craziness of our wedding planning, plus working our demanding jobs – we barely had any us time. When we would go to our dance lessons we had a chance to slow down and connect to one another. To be in the moment and be in love! 2- Hire superstars. Our wedding was the best day ever because of the people who we asked to help execute our vision and they all killed it!

Whimsical Winery Wedding in California

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Gideon Photography

This is one wedding that never fails to make us smile, no matter how many times we look at it. How can we resist, with the vibrant sunflowers, jewel tones, and handmade touches? A crew of amazing vendors including Gideon Photography, When Pigs Fly Events, and Layers of Lovely made Ashley and Brian’s dream day a reality, and you may just remember the darling bride from when we shared her cookie decorating bridal shower a while back!

From the bride, Ashley: The minute we entered the driveway to Quivira, we knew we had found “the one.” Like the moment I met Brian, like the moment I tried on my wedding dress, Quivira was the same “a-ha” moment. In my mind, I pictured myself getting married surrounded by sunflowers. I grew up on a farm with horses, chickens, and pigs. I also own a company called “Road Apples” where I makes organic treats for horses, dogs, and pigs. My design team, When Pigs Fly Events, really took the personal details of my life and transferred that to a cohesive wedding scheme. I wanted everything to feel inviting like you were ‘coming home to the ranch for a big family dinner.’ At every turn you were greeted by smiling sunflowers and ranch inspired details like the vintage horseshoes that were stuffed into floral pieces, large overturned crates of apples, and buckets of wheat.

My favorite part of the wedding day was dining in the vineyard with our friends and family. This was the truly magical moment of the day and when I felt like my vision of ‘a big family dinner’ came to life. We had a farm to table dinner under a gorgeous canopy of foliage and grapes – completely erected for our event. It actually looked and felt like it had been there forever. It was a magnificent setting and we loved the moment. Green and yellow were the dominant colors throughout the wedding. I asked all of my bridesmaids to choose a green dress that they loved. The sunflowers in our bouquets and the floral treatments provided that sunny pop of color that complemented the Quivira grounds and quaint yellow barn on the property so well. As an ode to the farm, we had a 5′ horse topiary made to welcome guests into the ceremony gardens. The cocktail hour had chickens and roosters in different areas including the “Get Yo’ Cocktail On” sign at the bar, on the custom made napkins, and the metal cork collectors.

Our after party at Barn Diva was an amazing way to end the night. As an entirely different venue, we wanted to change up the mood from the vineyard. We wanted some fantastical elements including unicorns and nods to the 80s. We had an ice luge in the shape of a unicorn from which guests took shots of martinis! And, the spiked milkshakes really hit the spot. I loved every moment of the day.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My biggest advice would be to make the day a reflection of you as a couple. Don’t be afraid to include some out-of-the-box ideas, inside jokes, and design elements. Make it about you. I wanted to give Brian a groom’s cake shaped like a steak because it’s a joke we share. He said that he decided to propose the night he did because “he just ate the best steak he had ever had and felt like the moment couldn’t be more perfect to ask me to be his wife.” I was also super excited to make my special homemade strawberry jam for my guests as a wedding favor! These are the details that you will remember forever. Beautiful can live in the same world as Unique. Also, let the day develop organically and don’t be afraid to throw control out the window and be surprised. You will be so inspired by the outpouring of love and thoughtfulness of the special people in your life if you encourage them to see the day as a platform for love.

Fiesta on the Farm Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

What’s a Monday without a bold punch of color? This styled shoot from Tami Melissa Photography, Just Be Design Studio, Bel Momento Weddings & Special Events, and Savannah’s Garden Florist is ready to provide those bright colorful tones in the form of a styled Mexican-inspired wedding shoot. Personally, we’re wild about the streamer ceremony backdrop – such an easy DIY project!

From the event designers, Bel Momento Weddings & Special Events: Getting a bunch of wedding professionals together to plan a colorful, Mexican inspired styled photo shoot on a country farm was bound to turn out amazing. Tami Melissa Photography captured breathtaking photos with the vibrant colors, fresh Mexican fare, an adorable Chihuahua named Chico, and rustic elements like vintage barn doors, salvaged church pews, and a rustic barn for the reception. Savannah’s Garden Florist, in Elmer, NJ, created the florals, using vivid pinks, oranges and reds to showcase locally grown dahlias, zinnias, as well as imported peonies fresh from Alaska. Just Be Design Studio created all the invitations and paper designs, and Bel Momento Weddings and Special Events helped coordinate all the stages of the shoot.

The location was at Parvin Farms, LLC in Pittsgrove, NJ, a working grain farm who offered their amazing open spaces, corn fields as backdrops, and barn for the reception. Apron Strings Desserts Boutique created the fabulous cake mimicking the colors and patterns of authentic Mexican papal picado banners, as well as Mexican cookies. Makeup and hair was featured by Your Day Your Way Traveling Hair and Makeup. The gorgeous bridal gown was courtesy of Wedding Belles Boutique in Northfield, NJ. Amazing, authentic Mexican fare was courtesy of Tacos Bravos Mexican Restaurant in Bridgeton, NJ. The details were endless, down to the vividly massed ribbons, beautiful chalkboard, signature drink the Pittsgrove Sunrise, piñata cookies, flowers hanging from trees, the bride’s skeleton earrings and tasseled invitations. It turned out as amazing as it was colorful!

Lucile’s Old Market Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Mullers Photography

Today’s bride and groom implemented what’s sure to be a new favorite activity into their wedding ceremony — potting their first plant as newlyweds. Bride Chelle is an organic gardener, so it makes sense that the couple’s wedding day would be full of warm tones, lush greenery, and beautiful flowers from I Bloom. Thanks to Mullers Photography for capturing the wedding day!

Lucile's Old Market wedding - photo by Mullers Photography http://ruffledblog.com/luciles-old-market-wedding

From the bride, Chelle: I love gardening and we love being out of doors, so we wanted to have a very organic bright feeling. My bouquet was at least half edible plant based (apples, chamomile, kale, berries, etc) by request, and I basically left the specific color choices up to I Bloom. I just said warm colors, and gave a few flower/plant suggestions. My mom painted the figures for the guest table and cake toppers from scratch, and we got a handmade guest book for people to do the Polaroids. The table name cards were Polaroid themed as well. The theme was mainly just making memories and having a very organic, warm, comfortable feel to the day. I always wanted to marry outside, preferably in a garden. Lucile’s was the first and only place I visited, and the courtyard garden, and elegant inside space, was perfect. I am an organic gardener, and wanted the ceremony to have that kind of warm, welcoming and bright feeling. I also wanted to have a “old” feeling to the event, not necessarily vintage but just a feeling that this was part of a long tradition. The cobblestone and ivy colored brick walls outside really embodied that tone.

I didn’t really have a traditional color scheme planned, it kind of just pieced itself together. I wanted warm colors for the bouquet, peaches, pinks, reds, purples. I knew that I wanted bright green napkins for the table to go with the stained glass, and also green’s my favorite color. The week before the wedding Jerrod decided he wanted a red tie, so we bought red bow ties as well for the boys. I know it sounds crazy, but I kind of went about all this organically as things came up! One thing that definitely was planned, was the guest book idea – to buy a polaroid and have people take photos of themselves along with the notes. They ended up taking a lot of other ones too, and we pasted those into the book – the perfect keepsake. Also, the wooden figurines for the guest table and the cake were painted by my mother.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Keep an eye out for ideas, but take your time. I had almost zero stress because two big decisions were made well and early on – location and photographers. Focus on these two, and your florist and after that it’s really just about having fun. I planned a few key things for the event from the beginning, as I had them already in mind for some time, but other than that everything just unfolded gradually. Even things like Jerrod’s tie, and the boys’ bow ties, or the polaroid name cards were only planned a week out from the wedding date, and on an unrelated errand I ran over the weekend. So one example, is that I had no idea what to use for the place cards, and nothing had felt right so far. I was at Target and happened to see a set of polaroid blank cards on clearance for a few bucks. They were beautiful and perfect for our polaroid guest book theme! If you have an open mind, and aren’t too rigid about your requirements, there will be so many things that present themselves to you. Just trust your gut!

Garden Weddings

Flora + Fauna

Wedding portraits in an abandoned greenhouse – be still, my beating heart. After their portraits, Becky and Jose made their way to their ceremony site under the trees, where they exchanged vows before dancing the night away with friends and family. Flora + Fauna was on hand to document every moment, each detail prettier than the next!

glen venue wedding - photo by Flora and Fauna http://ruffledblog.com/abandoned-greenhouse-wedding

From the bride, Becky: Our vision was for our wedding to be a reflection of who we are. We wanted our wedding to be a comfortable and welcoming experience for all our guest. We envisioned a romantic wedding outside in the fresh air on a beautiful piece of property surrounded by our family and close friends. We were married on the property of The Glen Venue at the Linwood House. It was a beautiful house that dates back to the late 1800s, sitting on a huge piece of property with blooming camellias and an orange grove full of fruit. We were married under a row of gorgeous magnolia trees with white fabric swaying in the trees, while standing on a hand woven rug that Jose’s parents had purchased many years ago while in Turkey. We asked one of our closest friends to officiate our nuptials which made the ceremony feel very intimate and special for us.

The flowers were one of the most important décor elements for me. I wanted free flowing and natural arrangements with dark burgundy, purples of all shades with accents of white and pink. The day before the wedding my dear friend and I went to a local farm (Down to Earth) to pick up the Zinnias that were used. The loropetalum came from my yard and the rest were from a wholesale florist in town. I splurged on flowers like garden and spray roses and saved money by using the loropetalum and other greenery like Silver Dollar Eucalyptus and Plumosa Fern.

We wanted to be involved in every little detail, hand crafted by us, our family and our friends. Everything at our wedding was DIY which made it so special and heartfelt. The six months leading to the wedding I hunted for containers for the flower arrangements and flatware to be used for our guest. The place settings at our sweetheart table were all things I had collected over the years. I refinished furniture that was used as our cake table and beverage bar. Jose and his brother built the bar out of pallets and reclaimed wood. Jose and I designed our invitations and paper goods. My mom crocheted all the hanging jars throughout the venue and made the shawl I wore. My close friends played a huge role in the setup of the day and making sure everything was beautiful. From the flowers to the day of coordinating, without them our wedding would not have been what we had envisioned. Our cakes and catering were even done by our friend’s parents. It was definitely a family affair! I worked closely with friends and family setting up the venue to the very moment I had to stop and get ready for the big day. I turned over the rest of my décor duties and trusted everything would turn out as beautiful as I imagined which it did. When Jose and I walked out of the house as they pronounced us husband and wife it was so much to take in, we are very grateful to everyone that helped and made our wedding dream come true.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My biggest piece of advice I would give any couple planning their wedding would be to enjoy the process. We were engaged for only 6 short months but those months leading to our big day were magical and so much fun. Our family and friends put together some really fun gatherings for us. There was so much excitement it the air and although there were some big decision still to be made, we tried our best to take full advantage of it. So as hard as it may be at times try to go with the flow and soak in every little moment.

Could it be possible for me to love this shoot from Danielle Capito Photography and Danae Grace Events any more? Not a chance. The pink trailer rented from Candice Cleary of The Face and Body Shoppe is simply the icing on the bohemian wedding cake!

From the designer, Danae Grace: Being a designer, I am constantly looking for inspiration anywhere. After visiting Candice Cleary’s The Face and Body Shoppe in San Luis Obispo, my mind was filled with ideas and creativity to design a inspiration shoot based around the color palettes and texture in her studio as well as her adorable pink trailer. My concept was “Fresh” keeping things simple with a sophisticated “Free People” look focusing on amazing styling with playful elements. Using a collection of blooms consisting of Lavender, Dahlias, Cafe Au Lait, and Peonies we designed the floral headpieces and arrangements to tie everything together as the final touches.
