Geometric Gems Styled Elopement

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Sonia Bourdon

In this absolutely breathtaking styled shoot from Sonia Bourdon Photographe, we saw creativity at its finest unfold. Mlle Artsy was the designer for this and rather than shy away from the cold temperatures, they embraced it, threw a pretty dress in and a bespoke suit for good measure, and dolled up this cave to no end. This setting definitely comes with ample inspiration, so Flore&Sens Atelier Floral created colorful arrangements that meshed perfectly with the aesthetic of the shoot and its surroundings. Who says all of the warm months get to have all of the fun styled shoots?

From the event designers, Mlle Artsy: This creative shoot was inspired by our magnificent wintry landscapes of Canada. We are blessed to have such breathtaking scenery here, and we had to put nature at the forefront of our styled elopement shoot. We were greatly inspired by the cave at Arbraska Laflèche, with its unbelievable stalagmites and gorgeous stone walls. The cave inspired our colour palette: shades of white, gold, rust and black, and completed our palette with a rich dark turquoise color that we used as our accent color. We incorporated geometrics, granite, geodes, quartz and gems into the shoot, which tied into the location. Those quartz perfectly complemented the stalagmites and stalactites found on site. We transform this cave into a mine of Ice and Gems. Finally, a winter wedding is not completed without furs, especially for their rich textures and warm colours.

Enchanted Garden Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Okay, you might need to brace yourself for this one. Samantha Jay Photography and A Garden Party sent over this incredibly stylish shoot that proves that you can have a garden wedding no matter the time of the year or the location. With how lush this entire shoot looks, it’s almost impossible to believe there was a snow storm outside just the day before!

Ruffled - photo by Samantha Jay Photography http://ruffledblog.com/enchanted-garden-wedding-ideas

From the photographer, Samantha Jay Photography: The magic that happens when several unbelievably talented vendors come together to make a styled shoot is undeniable in these romantic photos. What hoped to be a spring garden styled shoot was transformed into a breathtaking snowy adventure when southern NJ was hit with a huge snow storm the day prior. Loads of fresh greenery, yards of peach tulle and glistening gold accents make you forget about the snow on the ground and help to inspire what your romantic garden wedding could be like, in any season.

Luxe Northwoods Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

I genuinely just don’t know where to begin with this styled shoot from Meg Cooper Photography, Fox & Fern Floral, and denae brennan weddings & events. The lush bouquet with pops of red peonies? The gold chandelier hanging above the reception table in the woods? The impeccable Tara Keely gown? They’re all great starting points, but just wait until you take everything in for the full picture of perfection.

From the event designer, denae brennan weddings & events: When Meg Cooper approached me with the desire to put together a winter-themed styled shoot, I immediately contacted Brianna at Fox & Fern Floral to get her on board as well. The three of us did two weddings together in 2015 and I was excited to get these talented vendors on the same project again. Brianna and I had worked at a very special private ranch property on a 2014 wedding, and the owners were gracious enough to not only let us set up our shoot there, but also take out one of their gorgeous horses for a few shots!

Berry Toned Wedding at Terrain

Blue Label, Romantic Weddings

Well it just doesn’t get any cozier than this next wedding from Sweet Root Village and Strawberry Milk Events. The incredible day was pulled together in under 2 months (can you believe it?) and was an intimate celebration at one of our favorite event venues, Terrain at Styers. Let’s take a look!

berry toned wedding at Terrain - photo by Sweet Root Village http://ruffledblog.com/berry-toned-wedding-at-terrain

From the photographers, Sweet Root Village: Kayanne and David got hitched at the courthouse back in September, but still desired a more formal (yet intimate) celebration with family and close friends. It just so happens that Kayanne’s new sister-in-law is Julie Savage-Parekh of Strawberry Milk Events. She helped Kayanne whip up a cozy, Christmastime celebration in under 2 months for around 40 guests at the charming Terrain at Styer’s (Anthropologie’s nursery and cool event space outside of Philly.)

Being 2 hours outside of D + K’s hometown of Annapolis, MD it made for a fun, mini destination wedding location. Julie, David and their family visit Terrain every year at Christmastime for brunch and shopping because it’s simply magical. Kayanne had never been – and her first visit was the day of their wedding where she too, fell under it’s enchantment. They had their first look among the Christmas tree farm while guests arrived and enjoyed a mini cocktail hour complete with gourmet hot chocolate bar and a cheese and charcuterie display. Guests then entered the greenhouse for a candlelit, religious ceremony where the bride and groom exchanged their own vows.

After the ceremony, the curtain was pulled back to reveal a magical dining room with one dramatic, long kings table that held hundreds of candles and crystal candelabras. A seasonal garland of greenery also ran down the length of the table. The farm to table multi-course meal was fantastic (we’re talking butternut squash bisque, braised beef short ribs and individual apple pies a la mode in cast iron skillets), and there were several heartfelt speeches and toasts. Although the celebration was more of a dinner party, the bride and groom still shared a first dance to Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud.” The sweetest surprise actually came after cake cutting, when Kayanne’s maid of honor showed a touching video of special messages recorded by Kayanne’s family back home in Brazil who were unable to make the trip. The bride did her hair and makeup herself and had two something borrowed’s – Julie’s Vera Wang veil and antique diamond shoe clips. The bride DIY’d the polaroid guest book table, signage, gold glitter pine cone ornament favors and place cards.

Snow White Inspired Bridal Session

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Joanna Fisher

Today’s styled shoot can be summed up as “Snow White reimagined.” The team of photographer Joanna Fisher and designer Bleached Butterfly approached the famed fairy tale maiden with a modern twist, using a bold color palette of blue and red and adding in soft blush pink and pops of gold. The result? Well, it’s just about as romantic as it gets.

Snow White inspired bridal session - photo by Joanna Fisher http://ruffledblog.com/snow-white-inspired-bridal-session

From the photographer, Joanna Fisher: Inspired both by Grimm’s original fairytale Snow White, and by the modern spin on the story as interpreted by ABC’s Once Upon A Time, this Snow White inspired styled bridal is the culmination of so many industry creatives’ hard work and creativity. Styled by the talented Autumn Kramer of the Bleached Butterfly, her vision for the re-telling of Snow White is truly a modern fairytale. Soft blush and gold accents are elevated by the deep reds and blues of the decor and florals, bringing this story to life.

Our bride is wearing the elegant and whimsical “Severine” gown by Monique Lhullier, provided by the Plumed Serpent Bridal. Crowned with the delicate hairpiece and jewelry by Paris, the bride truly looks like she has stepped out of the pages of a storybook. Her vows, in the form of lyrics by Mumford and Sons, are presented on the Black Velvet ribbon by Silk and Willow, hand penned by Molly Shanahan, Calligrapher.

The cake, by Baked Desserts, bears the famous lines of the song from the Disney classic, “Someday My Prince Will Come”, and the theme is carried through in the beautifully penned love letters the bride holds. Showered in the words left behind by her elusive love, the image of our ‘princess’ standing in the midst of falling antique letters is one of the photographer’s personal favorites.

Nordic Inspired Woodland Wedding

Wedding Design

Photos by:

LV Imagery

Today’s styled shoot was inspired by the event designer’s trip to Iceland, and the Nordic inspiration just flowed from there. A modern bohemian tablescape, a cable-knit sweater cake, and plenty of candles and birch wood accents all shared the spotlight with a beautiful couple and a sweet pup named Zeus. LV Imagery and Blush + Bowties did absolutely stunning work here!

Nordic inspired woodland wedding - photo by LV Imagery http://ruffledblog.com/nordic-inspired-woodland-wedding

From the event designer, Blush + Bowties: It’s not often one hopes for grey skies, but on the day of our shoot, we were praying for overcast weather. As luck would have it, Mother Nature was on our side and delivered an incredibly atmospheric backdrop for our Nordic Woodland creative shoot. Three years ago I spent a week in Iceland for my honeymoon. It was an unexpectedly enchanting trip. The landscape was like nothing I had ever seen — mysterious, stark, and hauntingly beautiful. Since visiting, I have been dreaming up a shoot with Nordic design and a woodland twist.

The models/actors for the day, James and Annika, playing the roles of our Nordic couple Eiric and Asta, could not have been more of a pleasure to work with. The blond, blued-eyed beauties captured the story of our bride and groom. Hair and makeup artist Angela McQueen brought out the natural beauty of our bride for the day and finished her look with an ethereal braided crown. Renna Reddie, of Get Reddie, provided the cozy and whimsical attire for our couple, which reflected the feel for which we aspired.

modern organic tablescape - photo by LV Imagery http://ruffledblog.com/nordic-inspired-woodland-wedding

Leslie, from Warehouse 84, who supplied the props and furniture for the shoot, generously offered up her private home set on several acres of land for the shoot. A wooden arbour adorned with a lush woodland garland, created by florist Jen Pogue, was the ideal home for our deer skull (nicknamed Ned). Birch stumps with drip candles and terrariums completed our ceremony set up. A cozy cable-knit sweater cake and copper cake, designed by Le Dolci, perched perfectly atop our wood plank table and antique ladder. We stayed simple with the table and chairs as a nod to the minimalist Nordic style. A garland cascaded across the table and onto sheepskin rugs. A lush berry-toned centrepiece and antlers were woven beautifully into the tablescape, which also included geometric terrariums, organic shaped plates set on wood chargers, gold flatware, and copper mugs. Custom-designed menus with a subtle geometric pattern and place cards were provided by Paper and Poste.

On site was a forest, where we placed our cozy lounge for the couple. A masculine leather couch grounded the space and was draped with furs and patterned pillows. As we lit the flame on the candles, the true romance of the scene came alive. One of my favourite moments of the day was when Zeus, Leslie’s dog, made a surprise cameo in the shoot and was quickly adopted by our couple for the duration of the day. Celebrating the bare but enchanting landscape, understated Nordic style, and raw woodland design was a superlatively satisfying endeavour. Lauren from LV Imagery beautifully captured the allure of the scene, and I am so happy to share the photos with you.

Romantic Winter Wedding at The Cooper Estate

Romantic Weddings

This romantic wedding captured by Miranda Hattie Photography was heavily influenced by the bride and groom’s Cuban backgrounds. An intimate setting was essential to Yanin and Alex’s big day. The gorgeous florals by Ever After Floral Design were the perfect touch with pops of marsala scattered throughout the day. Surrounded by Palm Trees and loved ones, these photos make you want to hop on a plane Florida-bound!

romantic winter wedding at the Cooper Estate - photo by Miranda Hattie Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-winter-wedding-at-the-cooper-estate

From the bride, Yanin: I had always envisioned our wedding to be in a place very intimate where everyone can feel the love that Alex and I feel for each other. Alex’s oldest brother is a minister and we both knew we wanted him to marry us. I think that was very special and made the wedding even more intimate and personal. I wanted a wedding that was elegant, organic and vintage. I knew I wanted a fall wedding because we met during the same time we had the wedding 4 years ago and because it is our favorite season. I knew I wanted something outdoors. I also love antiques. My mom and stepdad collect antiques and have started a small antique company. I share the same love for beautiful antique pieces and I knew I wanted that at our wedding. I also wanted to show Alex’s personality in our wedding and our Cuban heritage so I knew I wanted a Cuban cigar roller. Lastly, I knew I wanted one heck of a party and I wanted the dance floor to never be empty. I love to have fun and dance and I wanted people to feel that energy all night long. I think our wedding really encompassed both of our personalities.

My mom and stepdad are huge antique collectors and I knew I wanted to use some of their items for our wedding. It was also a great way to showcase the items they have for rent in their company. I used a French door as the seating chart. I did the writing for the seating chart, which took me longer than I expected. I am a perfectionist and kept erasing and then doing it all over again. The mirror is also an antique that my mom has and I used it as the menu, which I also wrote on. Our florist added beautiful berries to our seating chart and menu. It was a really nice touch. My jewelry for the day of the wedding my mom and I bought from an antique store in Miami. The earrings and the bracelet are one of a kind pieces.

I also wanted to show our Cuban background as both of our parents are from Cuba, so we had a cigar roller, a coffee bar and a percussionist. The cigar roller and coffee bar were a surprise for Alex from his parents. He loves smoking cigars and I thought this would be a great treat for him. He also loves espressos hence the coffee bar, which the servers did pass around Cuban coffee to guests. I loved our DJ from the moment we met him but I knew I wanted a little more when the music was playing. When looking for someone to play drums our DJ let us know he had a percussionist to play the drums, which brought the music and party to another level. I have a lot of favorite moments. Getting ready for the wedding with my mother and my bridesmaids was amazing. Walking down the aisle with my dad and seeing Alex standing there waiting for me next to my favorite girls and his groomsmen. I loved the fact that my brother, who is autistic, was able to be there too. He never goes to weddings but I knew my wedding would be incomplete without him. Seeing him there made my heart full. I loved our first dance and dancing with my father. I loved seeing my mom dancing to “Dancing Queen”. I loved seeing Alex so happy and full of life. I loved seeing everyone I love there and having a good time. Our wedding day was basically my favorite moment.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? One piece of advice to give all brides is enjoy it to the fullest! Do not stress about a magical day. I enjoyed it from getting ready with my mom and bridesmaids to the end of the wedding. Dance even if you sweat so much you look like a mess. I enjoyed it and danced so much, I ripped my dress. That’s how all weddings should end!

White and Copper Winter Wedding

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Singler Photography

White and copper make a timeless pair, and they shine like no other for winter weddings. We love that this inspiration is accented with a dose of eucalyptus, the perfect choice to add a bit of cheerful greenery! Singler Photography, Blanc Floral, and So Much Fun Events put together this shoot in San Diego with locally-sourced talent and goods, which makes us love it even more.

white and copper winter wedding - photo by Singler Photography http://ruffledblog.com/white-and-copper-winter-wedding

From the photographer, Tiffany Singler of Singler Photography: Creativity often inspires more creativity, at least that’s what we found with this winter inspired styled shoot. Luxe Love is a styled shoot incorporating some of San Diego’s local amazing talent. The city is exploding right now with emerging creatives who are pushing the envelope and not afraid to try something new, cool, and different. This shoot incorporates incredible florals, styled decor, a custom marque, beautiful hand lettering, and a wedding cake made entirely out of cheese! What could be better :) As photographers we were excited to be a part of this creative and eclectic shoot! It was awesome to work with this inspirational dream team.

As a graphic designer, I believe that great graphic design is in the details {read: spending lots of time at the computer looking at pixels.} If you dont know what a pixel is- congratulations- because that’s why graphic designer types exist! {to save your eyesight} Really, though-design is more than matching colors and picking pretty fonts {but I do have major love for fonts} – it’s about conveying your message to the world with a swirl, a flourish, a dot, a pattern- whatever it takes to creatively encompass your clients vision and send that vision out into the world with impact.

That’s what I try to do. EMPHASIS on TRY. I adore designing and am currently the owner of NOTEDOCCASIONS.COM , an online site catering to everyone who loves having a party. And who doesn’t because as I see it, life’s a party!

Simply White Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Studio EMP

For me, there’s nothing more calming than an all-white color palette. Studio EMP and Found Vintage Rentals recently gathered to showcase some of Found’s beautiful rental pieces, accenting them with soft ivory blooms, white pumpkins, and neutral linens for a look that’s totally monochrome and striking in its simplicity.

simply white wedding inspiration - photo by Studio EMP http://ruffledblog.com/simply-white-wedding-inspiration

From Found Vintage Rentals: Benjamin Moore announced Simply White as 2016 color of the year, and we’re not at all mad about it! There is something very relaxing about an all white palette that we just can’t get enough of. So pull up a cozy European homespun linen bench, unpack Grandma’s heirloom crystal, and fill ironstone vessels with blooms of white, and enjoy a cozy Christmas dinner around our Domaine Table. Simply (perfectly) White.

Crisp Autumn Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Debbie Lourens

It’s getting chillier and chillier with every day, so we know it’s the perfect time to share this beautiful inspiration shoot from Debbie Lourens, Blank Canvas, and Leipzig. It’s ideal for that time of the year where autumn is gently lapsing into winter, where there are still enough lovely flowers to pick but there might also be specks of snow floating around. And can we talk about that incredible headpiece?

crisp autumn wedding inspiration - photo by Debbie Lourens http://ruffledblog.com/crisp-autumn-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Debbie Lourens: We were inspired by the movie ‘Frozen’ and using that as our starting point our idea began to evolve into a whimsical shoot that celebrates all things snow and frost. We chose our models loosely based upon the theme of the blonde ice queen and her red-head sister and we accessorised them with crystals and feathers and layers of snow. Our colour scheme included warm, as well as cold colours to provide a rich, textural palette and to bring depth into the icy winter wonderland we were aiming to create. The wonderful indigenous plants and flowers we used gave an amazing South African spin to the fairytale and the use of raw wood made us think of a mysterious forest covered in snowflakes.

Handcrafted Fall Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Kellie Rae Studio

Have we mentioned how much we love fall? We have? Well, you’ll probably hear it from us a few more times because we’re just so excited for this cooler weather and the excuse to cuddle up under a blanket with a warm mug of tea. This shoot from Kellie Rae Studio jumps right into some of the best parts of fall, and implements fantastic ideas for all you do-it-yourself brides out there. We absolutely love the pistachio shell flowers made by Kellie!

handcrafted fall wedding inspiration - photo by Kelly Rae Studio http://ruffledblog.com/handcrafted-fall-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Kellie Rae Studio: We’ve all seen a TON of DIY weddings lately, which is SO awesome! But, I just wanted to show that it’s totally possible to produce something way uniquely beautiful and do it all yourself. I also think it’s easy for DIY to be overdone and expensive. I wanted this shoot to look effortless, but detailed all while being something totally doable and a smaller budget. Also, can we please share pistachio flowers that are not only totally adorable but also really fun to make? Because who doesn’t love an instant snack during crafting?

I guess this isn’t all done by me, because I can’t sew this super adorable dress which is from Rent the Runway. The pie toppers were something I came across on etsy and just had to have. I found a tree that had to be chopped in the woods behind my house, grabbed a chainsaw and cut some pieces from it for the centerpiece. Only almost cut my hand off once. The plates, silverware (well, goldware), and the candles are thrifted from Savers and Goodwill. The pine cones smell like Christmas and are from Michaels. So is the gold spray paint that I used a ton of!

The bouquet includes the pistachio flowers I made, as well as some pine cones I glued in there. I stopped on the side of the road and grabbed some of the ornamental grass that has taken over the ditch and included that in the bouquet as well. Wrapped it up and called it good! The couple, they aren’t actually engaged, but I really think they should be. Nick’s clothes came from his closet, nothing needed to be bought for this. Bailey, the model, did her own hair and makeup. Oh, and they brought their dog. I, personally, think more dogs need to be involved in weddings. They’re so cute!

We don’t know exactly how, but something about stylish winter wedding shoots just seems to make the harsh cold weather a bit more bearable. That’s definitely the case with this beauty from Nikita Lee, Clara Putlitz From Beyond The Garden Gate, and Allure With Decor, a team who used their gorgeous Pacific Northwest surroundings as a backdrop for some seriously great ideas we can’t wait to share.

Luxe Winter Wonderland Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

What would the holiday season be without touches of deep cranberry, gold glitter, and flower crowns? This was the basis for today’s styled shoot from Emily Millay Photography, A Charming Fete, and Twig Florals, who created a dreamy winter wedding affair that’s sure to get you into the good ol’ holiday spirit.

Luxe Winter Wonderland Wedding Inspiration - photo by Emily Millay Photography http://ruffledblog.com/luxe-winter-wonderland-wedding-inspiration

From the florist, Bronwen of Twig Florals: On the cusp of a chilly winter, we’re cozying up with super saturated hues of plum, cranberry and ruby with lush textures like tufted velvet and fox fur, dark woodland romance is in the air. The depth of color pops against the gentle peach undertones and golden glow of the meadow. Other decor included antique ruby wine goblets, mixed china and gold flatware plus lots of natural earthy elements such as antlers, feathers and lots of lush greenery and flowers. The tablescape was filled with flowers (garden roses, anemones, ranunculus), eucalyptus greens, pomegranates, mixed vintage brass candle sticks and bud vases, scattered gold feathers and antlers.

Luxe Winter Wonderland Wedding Inspiration - photo by Emily Millay Photography http://ruffledblog.com/luxe-winter-wonderland-wedding-inspiration

We showcased a naked cake placed over a vintage gold mirror and adorned with flowers and pomegranates. The cool meadow enclosed by the deep forest became the perfect setting for this enchanting shoot. The bride took cues from a modern depiction of Snow White (using the gold mirrors and pomegranate as props) as if she’d stumbled upon a majestic clearing in the woods. The deep dark colors reflected the story. Several woodland creatures wandered into our scene unexpectedly. The bride wore a vintage fur cape and ivory lace gown. Her loose curls were swept up and secured with a delicate floral crown. Deep berry lips and nails completed her look. She wore an heirloom opal ring set in gold.

Woodsy Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Linda Chaja

As soon as I saw this effortless blend of mid-century styling and late winter/early spring freshness, it was absolute adoration. How beautiful is the table runner made up of faux pine trees of varying heights? Thanks to the team of Linda Chaja, Wild Heart Events, and Tenley Erin Young for pulling out all the stops on this one!

late winter wedding ideas - photo by Linda Chaja http://ruffledblog.com/late-winter-wedding-ideas

From the event stylist, Jaime of Wild Heart Events: For this shoot, we wanted to capture the feel of those last days of Winter, where the sun shines through the tops of the trees as snow and ice melts away, yet the air is still crisp and clean. We incorporated natural elements like fur, leather and pine to really get that outdoorsy vibe while setting the table with more modern place settings to give it some elegance and a more contemporary feel. We intermixed ghost chairs adorned with furs, with teak and lucite stools to achieve an icy look, complete with laser cut acrylic name place cards. Tenley lined the center of the table with pine trees of various heights that Linda shot just as the sun was shining through, bringing us back to a place deep in the mountains on those last days of winter.

Gilded Winter Romance

Wedding Design

Whenever we see a styled shoot from Juli Vaughn, we know it’s going to be good – ridiculously good. So when we heard she had teamed up with all-star photographer Our Labor of Love by Heidi, we nearly jumped out of our seats! For this photo shoot, Juli embraced the theme “Toss in some Texture.” Metals, tile, patterns, beading, and more come together in a presentation that takes our breath away without overwhelming the senses.

gilded winter romance - photo by Our Labor of Love by Heidi http://ruffledblog.com/gilded-winter-romance/

From the event designer and stylist, Juli Vaughn: In the last shoot, the image we selected inspired buzz words like idyllic, soft, fluffy, ethereal, and floral. Buzz words are a great way to figure out your style parameters. One of the words I hear in the wedding and design world quite a bit is “texture.” Texture is one of my favorite things to play with. Incorporating texture can take a simple color scheme from a snooze-fest to something really thought provoking. Our inspiration image for this shoot has a ton of texture – tile, fur, mixed patterns, metals, marble, and wood – but the neutral tones create a base.

When combining textures, make sure that the colors complement each other or are neutral enough that they don’t take on an “everything but the kitchen sink” appearance. It’s similar to the way a designer uses multiple patterns in a well decorated room. As long as the color scheme is adhered to – you can toss in pattern to your heart’s content and it all goes together.

A money-saving side note to incorporate texture: One unusual and cost effective thing we did was to take one of the gorgeous linens from Party Tables and create a wallpaper effect with it. This can be a way to introduce pattern into a space for the less “crafty” brides out there. Order a large tablecloth (or multiple ones) and simply hang them as backdrops. You won’t have to purchase a bunch of material that you’ll never use again!

This dreamy winter shoot takes place in the heart of a cotton field, and effortlessly blends hues of green, blue, gold, and berry tones with help from the talented Megan Martin Weddings, AVD, and Shea Hopely Flowers.

From the shoot designer, Megan Martin: Being a designer in the South brings tons of brides who want summery styled weddings and why not, it fits just perfectly! But I have been dreaming of a fete for “I Do”s rich in colors of berry, greens, gold and navy on the back drop of a winter wonderland. So naturally we headed for Southern snow: cotton. The drive was a dreamy ride of passing green field after field filled with horses along the way, but there are no words that can truly describe the wonder of a sight that opened up ’round the last bend. White. Miles and miles of it as far as the eye can see. It took my breath away! A dream like location for a wintery Southern Soiree.

As far as the details, I wanted to evoke a welcoming environment that beckons guests to cozy up and stay awhile all while enjoying tastes of the seasons like creamy butternut squash soup, fresh loaves of bread topped with Camembert and cranberries and warm apple spiced cocktails. Mixed textured metals and a touch of glitter were added to juxtapose the organic setting befitting a night of dancing and celebration under the stars!

I can’t stress enough to my brides how important it is to have a solid team of professionals behind you as become a Mrs. and everyone involved in the editorial are some of the best!

Terrain Winter Wedding

Modern Weddings

We might be inching slowly toward spring, but that doesn’t mean our hearts won’t be stopped in their tracks by an out-of-this-world Winter Wonderland wedding – especially when it’s by Lauren Fair Photography. Whitney works at Anthropologie, so it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that her wedding is bursting with creativity and details. Terrain provided the perfect backdrop, don’t you agree?

From the bride, Whitney: We were drawn to the rustic and whimsical nature of Terrain – but wanted to keep the affair simple and elevated in terms of decor and execution. We had only 60 guests so it felt comfortable and incredibly cozy. This also allowed us to serve our dinner family style, which we loved! Passing plates, and sharing food was the perfect way to make everyone feel at home. We projected old black and white Christmas movies (It’s a Wonderful Life and Miracle on 34th St.) onto the focal wall within the space. This added an element of movement, nostalgia and familiarity – it was definitely my favorite part! We also had a s’mores station set up outside around the fire, which was a big hit and encouraged guests to utilize the entire space.

Bouquet recipe: The star was a perfect pink peony, and it was surrounded by pine greens and other amazing assorted stems.

It was important to us that our evening felt festive, cozy, warm, and sophisticated. I suppose the theme was built around Christmas, but without the traditional (and expected) holiday representations (reds and greens, poinsettias, Santas and such). The idea was to emphasize the feeling that we all get as we head into the season, the excitement, the anticipation, the nostalgia, the light, the movies, the familiarity of friends and family and of course, the food! We didn’t necessarily have a color scheme… my dress was blush and my sister (matron of honor) wore a wonderfully warm bronze silk. We used a lot of metallic, a lot of pine, and relied on the space to ground the palette with woodsy browns. As for DIY, I designed and produced all of our paper elements (invitation, menu, place cards, ceremony candles, favor tags, etc) but outside of that we kept everything simple – relying on light and trees to fill the space in terms of decor.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Define a ‘vibe’ and stick to it in every way. From sound to sight, even scent, we wanted a really cohesive feeling and we ensured that all of our individual components lent themselves to rounding out that story. Also, make a big impact with a few items, rather than sprinkling a lot of ‘littles’ throughout the space.

Wedding Music:
Music was so important! We went with an amazing mix of soul, classics, singer/songwriter, rock, more current selections, a little 80s/90s dance, amazing covers and of course a lot of incredible (hand-picked) Holiday music.
Bridal Party Processional: piano version of The First Noel
Bridal Processional: piano rendition of Silent Night
Recessional: “I Love the Holidays,” Office Romance
First Dance: acoustic version of “What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve”

From the photographer, Lauren Fair: Whitney + Mike’s beautiful Winter Wonderland wedding featured incredible details like black + white Christmas movies projected on the wood walls of the reception greenhouse, a s’mores station, hanging floral installations above long farm tables, thousands of candles, a pink wedding dress, market lights galore, an adorable pug, and even a perfect sunset! The amount of coziness that oozed from every aspect of their wedding is the perfect inspiration for brides planning a rustic winter wedding!

Rhode Island Winter Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Isa Images

Today’s styled wedding shoot is sure to play into your romantic side, from the lush floral design to the horse-drawn carriage. Isa Images Photography Studio, Sweet Deets Events, and The Local Bouquet gathered to create a wedding using local resources and dashes of deep blues and winter greens, showing just how cozy a winter wedding can be.

From the photographer, Alyssa of Isa Images Photography Studio: This winter shoot at Boland’s Tree Farm in rural Rhode Island was all about inspiring brides to see the charm of going back to basics. Utilizing local resources and vendors, we wanted to create something cozy and homey. Staying true to the season, our palette consisted of shades of blues and and winter greens, both on the table and surrounding. Warm brass and gold metals with greens over antique wood with tiny hints of sparkle brought a warmth to the table. Our couple was escorted to their venue by a horse drawn, timeless carriage that added a special touch of genuine country wedding to the scene.

We incorporated a fun DIY cocoa bar complete with mugs and yummy mix-ins like marshmallows, crushed mints and cinnamon. Using warm vintage and up-cycled accessories the couple seems comfortable and relaxed during their winter wedding. Our unique location on a local tree farm added to the homespun feeling we were going for. We all have a common belief that buying local is better for the environment but also benefits local farmers and families, all of which are a vital and wonderful part of Southern Rhode Island!

Toronto Winter Wedding

Elegant Weddings

How can you really top a wedding during the holiday season? Dominique and Mike met while on vacation in the Dominican Republic, and their lives changed in an instant. Michelle of 3Photography captured the entire day, which included nods to Christmas and a first look between not just the bride and groom, but their families as well!

Toronto Winter Wedding - photo by 3Photography - http://ruffledblog.com/toronto-holiday-wedding

From the bride, Dominique: The Distillery District is such a unique location in Toronto and it initially caught our eye when we started planning our wedding, but it wasn’t until we started working with Melissa (from Melissa Baum Events) that we found our venue. Mike and I weren’t looking for a banquet hall style wedding so we both immediately liked Airship 37.

We knew our wedding was going to be different and memorable. We tried to keep the feel of the wedding minimalist, modern and uncluttered with a hint of winter. The Toronto Christmas Market is such a busy time of year in the Distillery District and we couldn’t be happier that we were able to squeeze in some outdoor portraits. We wanted to keep the color scheme fairly muted considering we were having a winter wedding so we went with green, grey, taupe and silver. Pops of color were added in through coral icing on the cupcakes and cobalt bridesmaids’ dresses and groom/groomsmen’s socks.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t sweat the small stuff, the wedding day will come and go regardless and you will have a wonderful evening. The planning process will be overwhelming and it could certainly become stressful so try to take one day a week where you don’t think about the wedding (at all). Take time for yourselves as a couple and do something you both enjoy!!!

From the photographer, Michelle of 3Photography: Dominique and Mike were married in Toronto’s Distillery District in the middle of the Christmas market with holiday vendors, twinkle lights, and Santa himself even made an appearance! Despite often being a little on the chilly side winter weddings are also quite magical and this was no exception. The traditional winter florals and decor from Blush and Bloom along with the white setting at Airship 37 were both classy and tranquil. When we were initially discussing their wedding, we talked about making sure that their photos felt like them – were authentic, not overly posed, and emotive. Well their First Look was one of the most heartfelt I’ve ever experienced, they chose to have their families present and it was the sweetest moment for everyone there. They met nearly 7 years ago in the Dominican while on vacation with each of their respective sets of friends and never looked back. Dominique packed her bags and moved from Ottawa to come to Toronto a year later and now the two live together and are even expecting their first baby!

Wintry Atlanta Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Teale Photography

Here at Ruffled, we just love a couple who isn’t afraid to face the weather in order to get the exact look they’re going for. Savannah and Rob wanted a Chronicles of Narnia-inspired wedding – a winter wedding with woodsy elements and a touch of whimsy and elegance. Teale Photography captured every element of their day perfectly, don’t you think?

wintry atlanta wedding - photo by Teale Photography - http://ruffledblog.com/wintry-atlanta-wedding/

From the bride, Savannah: We wanted to create a combination of elegance and rustic. With the setting of a farm, we knew it would feel rustic, but we wanted to also bring in a touch of elegance to make it a little unexpected! Our theme was sort of Narnia inspired with a less wintry feel. We used lots of candlelight, natural decor (pine cones, manzanita branches, baby’s breath) to create a very woodland type feel but the candlelight made it feel nice and warm inside!

The color scheme was very natural, to fit with the theme. My bridesmaids wore navy dresses, and the groomsmen wore gray. But I didn’t want lots of bright colors to distract from that very natural feel/theme we were going for. We had bells and lace with our guests names on them for the place settings that also served as our send off and wedding favors! I had lots of friends help me make them! They were very simple, but fun for our guests to ring spontaneously when they wanted me and my husband to kiss!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I am fortunate with friends who are very creative and do event planning, so I was able to get lots of help from them! It made the process so much fun and enjoyable having good friends be a part of the process! It kept me relaxed and a little more stress free having close friends involved! If you know people who can help you with the little details, ask! They will most likely be honored to help!

Blacksmith Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Today’s styled wedding shoot just goes to show you can find inspiration in unlimited places. Tyler of Tyler Rye Photography formed this shoot after seeing an anvil in a farmer’s work shed. He brought Swoon Vintage Rental Co. and Floral Design by Erin on board to help complete his vision, and the rest is photo shoot history!

blacksmith inspired wedding ideas // via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Tyler Rye: Forged was inspired by a simple Anvil. I was working at a farmer’s house and happened to look over and see his Anvil setting on a stand near his shed. It clicked in my mind how cool it would be to do a Black Smith themed wedding shoot. I started that day to gather antique smithing tools – everything from hammers to smelting tools. The couple that modeled are friends of my wife. They have been married for two years and this was a great way for them to reconnect as a couple. The location has been a dream spot for me ever since my wife and I had our Engagement pictures taken there 3 years ago! I had a lot of help getting this shoot ready and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my wife. Not only did she do the hair for the model, but she arranged both the tables and made them look amazing.

Brave Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Inspired by the movie Brave, this styled shoot styled by Tweedt Weddings with photography by Emily Crall Photography captured the essence and aesthetics of this Pixar animation to a t. The overall mood of this tablescape has a little bit of that mystic yet ethereal vibe combined with woodsy details that hmm hmm hmm! Adorable. The bride completely steals the spotlight, making for one gorgeous grownup Merida!

Brave Inspired Shoot // photo by Emily Crall via Ruffled

I just knew when I first saw that Disney movie that I wanted to photograph a styled-shoot based on this strong, brave woman and the rich Scottish culture. I got to work with the greatest group of vendors to pull this all off, including authentic Scottish pastries! The weather turned out less than ideal (we got a huge snowstorm the week of the shoot), but we made it work and I ended up loving the drifts of snow that landed right where we were setting up the table. Because the movie Brave focused so much on a mother/daughter relationship, we chose not to use a “groom” model for the shoot and simply focus on our “bride”, Felicia.

Winter Wonderland Inspiration Shoot

Wedding Design

A winter wedding with a generous dose of pink and gray — well that’s right up my alley! Joy of JoyFoley Weddings worked with Becky Veasy of Just For You Photography to capture this winter wonderland styled shoot, which has no shortage of stylish floral arrangements thanks to Cory Christopher and Dasee Floral Boutique. Pop in a blush pink wedding gown from Lazaro and you’ve got some happy wedding bloggers!

winter wedding ideas

From the stylist, Joy of JoyFoley Weddings: The idea for creating this winter wonderland shoot came simply from wanting to inspire brides. We wanted to create a beautiful palette out of pinks, white and silver and show brides that winter weddings don’t always have to incorporate colors you think they should. The shoot location was a beautiful frozen lake in Beaumont, Alberta, Canada. The table and chairs used for the shoot were purchased for $50 and were sanded and refinished. The vanity (I wish I could show you the before) is my Baba’s {grandmother} from 1954 and I spent many hours sanding off the old paint and white washing it. I wanted to incorporate vintage elements with modern elements to get the true feeling of Shabby Chic. The florals were created by Cory Christopher of Dasee Floral Boutique. He and his team took my vision, combined theirs and created something beautiful, soft and so romantic.

Our models were prepped by my all star female team consisting of BeautifulU Makeup Artistry by Tamara Leeder and Sara Murphy of Flaunt Salon. Jade’s gorgeous dress is the Lazaro 3108 in Blush from Delica Bridal. Accessories from stylist. Kyle’s grey tuxedo and classic accents come from Derks Formals. His pocket watch belonged to my GiGi {grandfather} and was gifted to my dad when he passed away a few years ago. It was very special to me to have it be incorporated in to the shoot. And behind the lens is magic worker Becky Veasy owner of Just For You Photography. Becky is a visionary when it comes to photography. Her use of soft natural light and ability to give direction is nothing short of amazing. I have been a fan of Becky’s for quite some time and was thrilled to finally have the chance to work with her.

Enchanted Forest Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Emily Steffen

“Enchanted forest” — whenever I hear those two words together, my heart starts beating a little bit faster. So naturally, when I saw this styled shoot from Johnny and Dottie and Emily Steffen Photography, I just knew I had to share it! How incredible is the idea of having your reception table (or even just a dessert table) covered in lush greenery?

From Lisa of Johnny and Dottie:Immediately I started to design the construction of the linen. I started with a base of chocolate satin linen. To keep with the design, I opted to use a loose weave burlap and individually pin plumosa fern layer by layer. By the time the linen was completely constructed, I had used over 300 stems of plumosa fern! I wanted the table to have texture and to really be the focal point of the tablescape. We accented this with vintage containers and chalices filled with spray roses, garden roses, ranunculus, freesia, and to add a dollop of colour I added blue hyacinth in silver mercury cylinder vases and accented all of this with mismatched glasses filled with candle votives. The simple dinnerware was wrapped in satin toffee coloured napkins and matched with vintage champagne glasses and gold flatware.

The cake table was designed with a very simple vintage pilsner glass filled with ginestra, which also accented the wedding cake made of buttercream. We also accented the table with hand stamped forks and cushioned hearts and darts (how can you not love that this time of year?!).

Stationery suites were a labor of love from Dena Swenson Design. From the textured paper (hand antiqued by Dena!) to the crimson ribbon accent, no detail was missed in complementing the overall design concept. For the bridal, we wanted to create a very dreamy, yet deco feel to her look. Hair and makeup, while soft, gave clear definition to her strong features and the hair (omgoodness the hair!) rolled and coiffed was the perfect accent to the Anne Barge gown. The gown itself was a dream of tulle, lace, and one amazing satin sash. We dressed the Groom in wool pants, dapper suspenders, and a bow tie made by Emily Steffen herself (camera and textile skills that girl has!).

And… the bouquet. Almost a midsummer’s night dream by itself, it complimented not only the bride but the entire design itself. A mixture of burgundy ranunculus, antique spray roses, freesia, ivory garden roses, and subtle hints of green hydrangea in a pillow of plumosa fern… it all was so beautiful it truly did seem like a dream!

Winter Thaw & Spring Beginnings

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Emily Delamater

This dream tablescape captured by Emily Delamater Photography and created by L. Brook Events will leave you wishing for winter to linger a little bit longer. Welcoming Spring with a ridiculous amount of beautiful images, the inspiration behind this late winter wedding is just the perfect way to bid winter adieu.

From Emily Delamater Photography and L. Brook Events: As the last of Winter falls away, signs of green and warmth start to make their way through. We wanted to highlight this time and accentuate the thaw of winter and awakening of Spring with soft pops of color, rustic knits and vintage props. Pale blues, teals and green are reminiscent of our coastal landscape and appear much brighter amidst the pale white canvas of snow. Our idea to include peach David Austen roses highlights the romantic blush that winter and young love bring to our cheeks. The inclusion of vintage details and props helps to create a sense of fantasy and reverie. We wanted to keep the flowers & styling soft and aery but also include darker elements with a few blacks and silver in contrast.

When we first decided to do a winter inspiration shoot, it was important to us that we captured the unparalleled beauty of this magical season. Living in the Northeast, particularly Maine means that winter sometimes lasts for what seems like forever. Usually by March, many people are fleeing the state to warmer climates to escape the seemingly never ending frigid temperatures and the isolation that winter brings. However winter in the North East can be as magical as C. S Lewis describes in his tales of Narnia.

Just before we were scheduled to shoot we had a historic blizzard that was quickly followed by a few days of unseasonably warm weather. With this weather came the first stages of the winter thaw. Melting snow, moss and the first pops of grasses through the snow all combined to highlight the pale green and blue palette of our design, while also giving a new sense of romanticism to our shoot.
Just as young love promises, winter thaw promises the return of vitality and warmth to our landscape.

Utah Winter Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Lora Grady

It’s difficult for me to pinpoint exactly what I love most about this wedding, because it’s all so beautiful — but if I had to pick, I’d say it’s the fresh and modern vibe it exudes. That, of course, is achieved with the help of photographer Lora Grady, and heaps of fluffy floral arrangements from Tinge Floral. Jessica and Ryne’s wedding seamlessly brought a bit of spring to a winter wedding, and we adore the results!

From the bride, Jessica: I wanted my wedding to be more modern and not super formal. My colors were coral, grey, and tan. With a little bit of mint green here and there :) We had a bunch of projects… We made a big giant wood frame. We printed some bridal pictures and engagement pictures onto mat boards and hung them from ribbon and put in the window frames of the wood frame that is about 7 feet tall and 6 feet wide.

We wrapped yarn around bottles. We used golf double sided tape, and taped them onto to the bottles and wrapped the yarn really tight. Some websites say to do hot glue… but that is too messy and not as easy. Instead of a sign in book, I made cards out of my colors and just wrote on a chalk board to have the guests write down a piece of advice on them for the new married couple. It was so fun to read through those!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? I would advise you to get a list of every single thing that you need to get for the wedding and categorize when you need to get that done. Anything from decorations, to addresses, to food. I kinda just put it all together and overwhelmed myself by thinking I need to get this done pronto. But if you give yourself a deadline of each category, you won’t get as overwhelmed:)

Glitter Winter Wedding

Dixie Pixel

Time to grab some hot chocolate, because this wintry wedding shot by Dixie Pixel Photography will leave you cozing up on the sofa while viewing these images and reading their story. David and Bettina (who owns a catering company herself I Luv Lux) had a New Year’s wedding filled to the brim with sweet touches and lots of sparkle.

From the bride, Bettina: Being in the wedding business myself (I own a catering business, bakery, and vintage rental company), most people that know me thought I would have tons of ideas for my own wedding. Believe it or not, I really had no clue! I knew I wanted a winter/holiday themed wedding. There is just something that is in the air around the end of the year that makes people so happy. David and I have spent the past eight years together and the thought of starting a brand new chapter of our lives and beginning a brand new year as a married couple felt very romantic. Once we set the date and selected The Knoxville Museum of Art, things just started to come together.

For us, the ceremony was a moment in time where we were able to honor our love for one another and celebrate our relationship with all the people who have loved and supported us throughout our lives. It was important for us to create an atmosphere in which our guest felt welcomed and special. For the ceremony we decided we wanted our guests to sit all around us, so we stood in the center of the room. We filled the room with touches of wood, using branches from trees we collected from our neighborhood and blue up lighting to create a wintery space. In the reception hall, I stuck with white… White table cloths, white flowers, white table numbers, menus, etc. We accented everything with pops of metals… Gold, silver, and sparkles to create a festive spirit.

We saved money by doing many things by ourselves. We collected old Christmas trees to place outside the venue covered with framed photos of our loved ones that have past away. We designed and printed our programs and menus and wrapped them in washi tape to match our invitations. I collected old picture frames, painted them gold and used them for our seating chart. My daughters and I collected pine cones and spray painted them gold for the place card holders. I used mailbox numbers and mini canvases painted solid white to create our custom table numbers. I made the flower girls headbands and my step-mother knitted their wrap sweaters. A friend brewed three special beers for our guests. We also created our hot chocolate wedding favors. It was a lot of time to invest, but we worked on these items though out the year. It just ended up making us even more excited for the big day!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? I feel that choosing vendors that you trust and see your vision is the most important thing you can do. From the food to the flowers to the cake… I had no worries because I knew that the team I had hired was going to do everything they could to make my night amazing. Hire a make up artist and have your hair done. It makes you feel so pretty and special.

I only have one regret… Not having a videographer. It was something I did not think I needed or even wanted. As a bride, there is a whole portion of the ceremony that you are not a part of… you are the LAST to enter! I wish I could see David, his guys… the ring bearer as they entered the room… Hear the band playing those carefully chosen songs again… We have amazing pictures, but I would go back and time and hire someone to video the ceremony if I could.

Mint and Gold Winter Wedding

Wedding Design

With temperature in the teens, this wintry wedding inspiration is perfect for today! There’s something about glitter and winter that seem to go hand in hand — throw some teal accent color in the mix, and you’ve got a shoot straight out of our design dreams. Utah Events by Design collaborated with Pepper Nix Photography to bring us a cozy winter styled wedding featuring a current favorite gown of ours, Monique Lhuillier’s “Candy”!

Aqua and glitter wedding ideas

gold teal place settings

From the designer, Michelle of Utah Events by Design: I was dying to combine shades of mint with golds to create a winter wonderland for brides seeking a wintry yet warm setting. I simply love working with metallics and gold seemed like the perfect way to warm up a winter scene without being over the top. For the table, I combined metallic mint chargers with gold rimmed china and mint paper accessories paired with gold flatware and glittered fruit decor to spice up individual plate settings. The escort card table showcases mini snowflakes that rest in a soft blanket of shimmery white flakes.

This over the top cake was designed to be as glam as the table setting and displays four unique tears complete with edible gold and glitter trimmings. The wedding favors were a favorite DIY project: Mini white buckets spray-painted with mint glitter spray paint. For the snow rim, I then covered the perimeter of each bucket with hot glue and then rolled it in faux snow. Buckets were filled with yogurt covered peanuts to represent mini snow balls. Each wedding favor was then placed on a vintage gold jewelry tray that sets upon a vintage gold-painted wash basin. Fresh florals combined with mint silk florals were used to create the stunning pieces on the table as well as the bridal bouquet and brides maid bouquet.

And how about this “Candy” Monique Lhuillier gown?! SWOON! Perfect for a soft wintry wedding! In addition, the bridal gown is paired perfectly with a lovely mint maids gown and I couldn’t love this color combination more! Last but not least, check out the UH-MAZING venue! The Chateau at La Callie is located in Sandy, Utah and is the ideal wedding destination for brides seeking a luxurious and gorgeous experience. Overall, everything came together and I couldn’t be more in love with how this winter design turned out.

Soft Winter Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Laura Murray

Something about this shoot from Laura Murray Photography and Pink Champagne Events just completely takes my breath away. Perhaps it’s the wintry feel, or maybe the classic blue, green, noir and ivory color palette. Its effortless, yet romantic feel of this inspiration shoot is pure perfection.

From the stylists of Pink Champagne Events: This shoot took place at Castle Cliffs in Colorado, a gorgeous manor filled with antiques that sits on acres of fields. An IDEAL spot for a wedding! The theme was wintery —- we wanted to invoke the feeling of romanticism and sophistication, but still keeping it simple. We use lots of greenery for the florals – a beautiful bouquet doesn’t have to be filled with flowers. Also, we incorporated a toile pattern into the table and invites.

Starry Winter Table Ideas

Wedding Design

I love the heaps of inspiration that can come from a perfectly executed tablescape — which is exactly what we have in this shoot from designer Kim Fisher and Anne Liles Photography. Take an eye-catching motif (stars), a strong color (gold), and a bevy of delicious drinks, and you’ve got a surefire winner. Stay tuned for tips on how to make the eucalyptus ice bucket + cups later today!

winter wedding decorations

From the designer, Kim Fisher: We put this together a while back — painted a wall and attached the stars and capiz globes, it’s the ice shot glasses with cranberry infused vodka. The ice bucket has silver eucalyptus leaves, shot glasses have a sprig of thyme frozen in the bottom. Salvador Dali print on the table along with a lichen covered log I found in the yard — I placed silver votives all over it… Flowers are the last of my white ranunculus, berries and rosemary from the garden.
