Gothic Glam Fall Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Gaudium Photography

Halloween has dawned upon us and what better inspiration to share today than one draped in swirls of marsala and wispy stripes of marble in a very glam and gothic setting. Gaudium Photography shared this haunting beauty orchestrated by Max & Dexter Event Design and it is all sorts of fabulous. With bold and elegance, this shoot is filled with rich, dark hues and moody florals courtesy of The Arrangement Company. All of these fine elements band together against the best architectural location you can think of for all of these Fall-inspired wedding elements, and it is nothing short of wonderful.

Safari Inspired Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

Proving that personality doesn’t have to be compromised for tradition, As You Wish Weddings and Events put together an expedition-inspired shoot that has us oooh-ing and ahhh-ing to no end. From the antlers encircling centerpieces to the marble slabbed menus with painted script, the event design is truly magnificent. Kathy Forrest Design mixes proteas, feathers and palm-frommed foliage in floral elements that become front and center in the photos captured by Katie Nesbitt Photography. All in all, we are wild about this Virginia Zoo shoot!

Safari Inspired Wedding Editorial - http://ruffledblog.com/safari-inspired-wedding-editorial

From the event designer, As You Wish Weddings and Events: Inspired by Taylor Swift’s music video Wildest Dreams… Taylor Swift has transcended music genres, fashion trends, and is now providing wedding inspiration. This shoot was meant to prove that a wedding can be timeless and romantic while still thinking outside the box. A colored gown, untraditional groom’s attire, and amazing venue lent the perfect amount of spunk to this ethereal styled shoot. It is not impossible to mix traditional place settings, stunning florals, and elegant calligraphy with your own personalities still having a presence. I have had too many couples feel that they need to compromise their fun personalities and quirkiness in order to preserve that feeling of a classic wedding. When you look back on your wedding day twenty or fifty years from now you should have no regrets, no thoughts of how it wasn’t exactly what you envisioned because it made your family happy.

Colorful Virginia Spring Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Becca B Photography

Bold and bright florals and table accents are the highlights of this beautiful wedding inspiration photographed by Becca B Photography. Now that vibrant colors are starting to emerge once again, L&L Events capitalized on this natural and timeless trend and chose to have some great fun with it. With Succulents & Saffron Floral Design in charge of creating the florals, the shoot turned into such a fun springtime fête with a bouquet and centerpieces that blew our minds. This shoot is made up of tulips, ranunculus, and all kinds of botanical and styling goodness.

copper colored wedding invitations - photo by Becca B Photography http://ruffledblog.com/colorful-virginia-spring-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Becca B Photography: Inspired by the bright fresh colors of spring, with modern and vintage touches throughout, this wedding inspiration shoot was filled to the brim with beauty, fun, and romance! From the bright and bold flowing florals, the custom transparent invitation suite with handmade leather envelopes, the DIY place setting chargers, a modern three tiered cake, all surrounded by modern geometric accents and dreamy vintage pieces in the breathtaking setting that is the Goodstone Inn in Middleburg, VA. This dream team of vendors worked closely together (all while having a ton of fun!) to create a special setting for the uniquely fun and vibrant couple who is deeply in love. The amazing video by Skipper Films perfectly captures all the beauty and fun that we had in creating this shoot. We hope you join in the fun and gather new inspiration for your wedding!

Peach and Copper Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

A peach wedding dress, be still our hearts! This shoot by Mikaela Marie Photography was just thoroughly decked out in the softest and dreamiest shade of peach and creatively, Lovely and Bubbly Events thought to pair it with an equally-beautiful shade of light blue. The two colors together are so harmonious for the eyes! Just when we thought that the color coordinating was done, copper–the ever-growing metallic color that we certainly cannot get enough of–was tossed in places as seen at the sweetheart table and even as tiny flecks on the wedding cake. Rounding off the fun and flirty inspiration were the peachy florals that So Lovely Weddings and Blooms provided for the shoot. There was a generous array of green foliage for the bouquet and the centerpieces, with stems of pretty peach peonies and garden roses peppered in here and there. We’re loving how fresh this wedding inspiration looks!

peach wedding dresses - photo by Mikaela Marie Photography http://ruffledblog.com/peach-and-copper-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Alyssa Gabel of Lovely and Bubbly Events: The design for this shoot really stemmed from the idea of a peach wedding dress. We love the different colored wedding gown trend, but we decided to take it a step further with a non-traditional color while keeping the season of summer in mind. That peachy and copper feel was incorporated all throughout the shoot in the paper products, the peach tree place card wall, and peachy popsicles. We also loved the idea of mixing rustic and industrial design elements. The rustic elements like our antique white dining table and white barn venue mixed with the modern industrial copper chairs made this editorial really stand out. This idea of mixing styles shows how a couple with two different tastes can incorporate both of their personalities in their wedding design.

Bohemian Wedding Under a Circus Tent

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

Nessa K Photography

Circus tents are definitely not just for circuses, everyone, and Katie and Billy proved that to us. They had the most vibrant jewel-toned wedding, and I’m so thrilled they had Nessa K Photography photograph all of the stunning details all over Tuckahoe. LK Events and Design and Photosynthesis partnered up and beautifully brought a crazy-good boho feel to the day, with elements like dip-dyed cloth napkins, a to-die-for lounge area with a couch you have to see to believe, and floral crowns that rival any you see at Coachella. This wedding is that good.

Bohemian Wedding Under a Circus Tent - photo by Nessa K Photography http://ruffledblog.com/bohemian-wedding-under-a-circus-tent

From the bride, Katie: For the past 6 years we’ve lived in both Austin and then Los Angeles, and decided to be married in Richmond, VA, the city where we met. Since we’re both from Virginia, we were excited to be surround by so many loved ones and knew it would be a family/friends reunion of sorts. We envisioned a relaxed and intimate outdoor wedding with farm tables, BBQ, vinyl spinning and dancing under the stars.

Mermaid Bride Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Mermaids are all the rage right now. Now that warm weather has dawned (for most of us!), the coral pinks and seafoam greens are ideal for the coming seasons. While I have seen an increase in mermaid trends, I haven’t seen them used for weddings or wedding inspiration until now! Chickadee Events and Virginia Ashley Photography certainly put their hard work into this shoot, and I love that the mermaid inspiration really comes through in such an elegant way. The Proper Petal added to the feel by using bright colors in the table blooms with small vases filled with solo stems of flowers; my favorite being those beautiful orchids. Topping it off, of course, was the mermaid silhouette wedding dress that stole the whole show.

mermaid bride wedding inspiration - photo by Virginia Ashley Photography http://ruffledblog.com/mermaid-bride-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Virginia Ashley Photography: When planning the styled shoot, I wanted to go for something mermaid-like! I have been refining my brand and what I want my style to reflect. I wanted this shoot to be a great reflection of my new brand and the type of couples I love! I was thankful for the sweet couple I had for this shoot! Gabrielle was the perfect mermaid inspiration and looked like a dream in the wedding dress!

Vintage Glam Rainy Day Wedding

Romantic Weddings

If you love vintage glam but don’t want to go all-out with the theme, we think you’ll find tons to love in Jessica and Brandyn’s wedding day. Virginia Ashley Photography and George’s Flowers put in great work for this couple’s celebration, filling the day with beautiful flowers (including the most stunning burgundy dahlias) and capturing every moment perfectly.

From the photographer, Ashley of Virginia Ashley Photography: There were so many sweet moments in Jessica and Brandyn’s day! Their wedding was filled with such style! Jessica’s Gatsby-inspired dress was stunning, the bridesmaids were beautiful in shades of blues/grays, and the groomsmen looked dapper. The lush florals throughout their day had me smitten too! The decor and charm of their wedding fit these two perfectly!

Luxe Urban Romance Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Robert Radifera

When this shoot calls itself “urban romance”, it really means it — the styled wedding takes place in the heart of downtown Charlottesville, surrounded by small businesses and local artists. The team of Robert Radifera, Shindig Weddings and Events, Southern Blooms, and so many more crafted a truly chic tablescape with rich color tones complemented by a gorgeous couple and their equally adorable mini wedding party.

From the photographer, Robert Radifera: This styled shoot was inspired by the natural romance of Charlottesville’s urban Downtown Mall. While Charlottesville is known for its rustic barn and sweet vineyard venues, it is also home to a bustling pedestrian mall that showcases small businesses, innovative restaurants, and area artists. This shoot was a collaborative effort between The Catering Outfit, Robert Radifera Photography, Southern Blooms, Shindig Weddings and Events, and Festive Fare Rentals (among other participating vendors); we collectively envisioned a beautiful, metropolitan dinner reception in the heart of the historic Downtown Mall.

Charlottesville Glam Wedding Editorial

If this styled shoot from Sarah Houston Photography and Love Blooms has a point to prove, it’s that blush pink and gold will always be a winning combination. The team used the color palette against a crisp white background, making everything pop and seem that much more elegant.

Ruffled - photo by Sarah Houston Photography http://ruffledblog.com/charlottesville-glam-wedding-editorial

From the photographer, Sarah Houston: I have always been a lover of a Blush & Gold palette (throw in some sparkles and it’s a dream come true!) so naturally when Sue reached out to me for a collaboration… well I jumped at the chance to do a Blush & Gold shoot at my favorite venue Rixey Manor. I know that the theme has been done in many ways, but I wanted to bring a classic, elegant approach to it with a white palette to really make it pop. I always love how white is a blank canvas and you can add layers to it to make it stand out.

I think the icing on the whole shoot for me was the Vera Wang blush wedding dress… I literally wanted to keep it forever. The sparkle bridesmaids gowns really bought it all together as well as the stunning florals that were a soft feminine color. I mean who doesn’t love gorgeous flowers? I honestly believe that Blush & Gold will always be a staple for wedding colors, because the possibilities are endless!

Evergreen Winter Wedding Dress

Wedding Design

One of our favorite things about our job is being able to bring you all things you might not have seen before, and we know for certain we’ve never come across anything quite like this shoot from Nicole Colwell Photography and Gloriosa. In it, the bride wears a skirt made entirely of evergreen branches for a look that fits in perfectly for winter and is the statement piece to end all statement pieces.

evergreen winter wedding dress - photo by Nicole Colwell Photography http://ruffledblog.com/evergreen-winter-wedding-dress

From the photographer, Nicole Colwell: When you think of a Winter Wedding three words that come to mind are: Cold. Dead. Snow. I personally love winter weddings. You have so many possibilities to play with the neutral and earthy coloring of the winter season. The most popular theme for a winter wedding is Christmas but I wanted to put a spin on this Christmas Editorial. Most couples think you have to have a winter wedding indoors but we held this festive styled shoot against Sorella Farms outdoor landscape. Instead of doing a white wedding gown with a fur coat, red shawl or a plaid jacket this Winter Bride is wearing an Evergreen Dress.

We paired festive with rustic decor that made this winter wedding warm and charming. Glided evergreens not only hung from this brides wedding gown but was adorned at the sweetheart table and alongside the cake/dessert table. Pops of red showed in the festive paper goods, the wild bouquet as well as the cakes and festive desserts. This bride had a mixture of rustic and festive mixed in with a bohemian flair. This winter shoot was far from cold and dead and was warm and inviting.

Today’s wedding is the epitome of a show-stopper. The film images by Adam Barnes Fine Art Photography, the citrus hues of the flowers arranged by Mallory Joyce, and the wedding cake adorned with orange roses all render us completely defenseless against this wedding’s charms. Modern Styled Engagement Party

Wedding Design

White, green, and some touches of natural wood make this styled shoot from Echard Wheeler Photography, Michelle Amarillo Event Planning, and Studio Posy a modern hit, while the shimmery gold gown donned by the bride-to-be adds just the right touch of glam. If green and gold weren’t already on your list of must-have color combos, we bet they will be now!

modern styled engagement party - photo by Echard Wheeler Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-styled-engagement-party

From the event designer, Michelle Amarillo Event Planning: Marissa Digirolamo, owner/floral designer at Studio Posy and I became fast friends in our local wedding community upon connecting up during a bridal consultation long ago. Since that day we have worked on many weddings together. We discovered early on that we share the same aesthetic and sense of humor; this has led what to will surely become a lifelong friendship. It is this friendship which has led to many collaborations; the Glitter & Green shoot being our most recent creative endeavor.

Within the past couple of years an Arts District has emerged in the City of Norfolk, which is where Studio Posy“>Studio Posy is located. Last year, an art-loving local couple (Brother and Meredith Rutter) re-habbed an old building which had been sitting vacant for decades within the new district. It is called Work|Release and is located in the old Texaco building. It now houses an art gallery, artist apartments and studio spaces, and a gorgeous event space. The space is notably characterized by high ceilings, exposed brick, and huge windows that just bathe the space in natural light. We really wanted to do a shoot there to celebrate the arrival of this beautiful space within our burgeoning Arts District, so we conjured up a styled engagement shoot.

We knew that the style of the shoot needed to reflect the industrial modernity of the space. That was not a constraint for us, as our personal aesthetic leans more towards the modern. Tropical foliage and foraged local foliage along with bold blooms comprised the florals for the shoot. We loved the green botanicals mixed with the rich golds with the bright white walls and cool concrete as our back drop. I handmade the geometric gold shapes hanging above the table and styled the hexagon wall; we loved mixing all of the bold botanicals in. Not enough can be said about our amazingly talented photographer, Echard Wheeler. We were so lucky to get to work with him on this shoot. Last but not least are our gorgeous models. Their warm presence enacted all of our styled elements and certainly brought the space to life.

Southern Keswick Vineyards Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Elisa Bricker

There are a few things we know for sure — flowers will always be in fashion, love is by far the most important ingredient of a wedding day, and any combination of Elisa Bricker and Janie Medley Flora Design is going to knock our socks off. There’s just something about the combination of Elisa’s film images and Janie’s effortless blending of blooms that never ceases to take our breath away. Need some more convincing? Look no further than these images:

southern Keswick Vineyards wedding - photo by Elisa Bricker http://ruffledblog.com/southern-keswick-vineyards-wedding

From the bride, Virginia: We were really excited to bring our loved ones back to where our story began in Charlottesville, Virginia eight years before Patrick proposed in New York City, and we fell in love with the beautiful views (and kind staff!) of Keswick Vineyards. We wanted to combine a traditional, formal wedding with personal and meaningful details in a way that would be enjoyable and memorable for our guests. We had an Episcopalian service in the oldest church in town, and a carillonneur tolled the bells as we exited to our vintage car. My gown had a rhinestone encrusted bodice and straps with a sparkly tulle skirt and bridesmaids wore long dresses. At the reception, we had a seated dinner with gold chargers and a cake topper dating back to Patrick’s grandparents’ wedding. However, we also held our rehearsal dinner and welcome party at a pub near UVA grounds, featured folksy guitar music and corn hole during cocktail hour, and enjoyed a late-night french fry bar at our reception before a departure through sparklers to the after party. A few adjectives that describe the look of our wedding are classic, whimsical, sentimental, fairytale, and personalized. I designed our website, save-the-dates, wedding invitations, menus, programs, cocktail napkins, favors, and hand-lettered escort cards, table numbers, various signs, etc. I am a calligrapher and illustrator, contributing designs to other weddings, so it was such a treat doing it for ours! Colors included ivory, black, a pale blush, pink, and gold.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings? I have 10 pieces of advice: 1. Truth be told, planning a wedding can feel stressful at times. We moved and I changed careers a few months before our wedding and it definitely felt like a juggling act, planning everything from a distance. My biggest advice is to always remind yourselves why you’re planning a wedding in the first place. If things are feeling overwhelming, put it all aside and go have a date night and don’t talk about the wedding. The wedding you’re planning will last one day – that’s it. The marriage you’re planning will hopefully last a lifetime. 2. Choose one design aspect to “obsess” over and don’t sweat the rest. For me, it was the paper goods. I allowed myself to spend way too much time on the design and decision process, splurging on letterpress printing methods and hand-lettering all envelopes and place cards. I completely geeked out about all of it! On the same note, I tried not to get bogged down by our other design decisions. I can see how easy it is for couples to change their mind on every detail a million times, but you’ll go crazy if you allow that! 3. If you can fit it into your budget, hire a videographer. The video content is something you’ll cherish for the rest of your lives. 4. Ladies, if your wedding shoes aren’t all that comfortable and your gown covers them, wear a different pair during the ceremony. It was the best decision I ever made. 5. When people tell you it goes by so fast, they aren’t lying. Take as many mental photographs as you can. One of my favorite mental snapshots will always be sneaking out of the rehearsal dinner to practice our first dance routine in a parking lot. 6. When guests start to arrive in town, turn your phone off and hide it in your suitcase. Others can answer questions, and you don’t need to be available to anything other than what’s going on in front of you. 7. Drink a ton of water the day of the wedding. Just do it, and thank me later. 8. Ask a relative or friend if they can save mementos that day — everything from a church program to a wine-stained cocktail napkin. You’ll be surprised what gets lost in the shuffle and it’s fun to have little pieces to hold onto. 9. If you have a small home (like we do!), register for activities once you’ve reached your max on kitchen supplies and home decor. We used Zola, and it was incredible to have a handful of date nights to look forward to after the wedding. 10. If your schedule permits, take a honeymoon directly after your wedding. I cannot fathom another time when a vacation is more needed and enjoyed!

Crimson Bohemian Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

These days, it seems like I can’t get enough of blush pink wedding gowns — or really, any colored wedding gowns for that matter. Today’s styled shoot from Chelsea Anderson Photography, Fluttering Flowers, and Just Dandy Events takes a blush pink dress, adds in a mossy tablescape, lots of greenery, and some pops of crimson for some inspiration that’s high on romance and guaranteed to make us all fall in love.

From the photographer, Chelsea Anderson Photography: This inspiration shoot was born out of a love for the movie Into the Woods. The colors and dresses in the movie were distinct and different which sparked an idea for a sort of enchanted inspiration shoot with bold colors. I fell in love with Rapunzel’s blush dress from Into the Woods and began perusing for blush dress inspiration. I loved the idea of the contrast between a beautiful blush dress and the enchanted woods, which is where we went from there. We combined deep reds, a love of all things different (blush dress, moss-covered table) for a bohemian chic wedding inspiration shoot. For the venue, we chose a historic house in Virginia Beach that provided a beautiful setting and courtyard for the inspiration to come to a reality.

From the photographer, Becca B Photography: Inspired by the changing of seasons, the idea of this inspiration shoot quickly came to life by incorporating colors and tones of all seasons to create a setting that would work for weddings year round. From the greenhouse and rolling hills setting at The Market at Grelen, the vintage Dolce & Gabbana gown, the escort cards hanging above the table in mini bud vases from BHLDN, combined with the soft peach and dark plum tones we created a soft, modern, and dreamy atmosphere that had all of us on site “ohhh” and “ahhh” throughout the day!

The table setting took place inside of a greenhouse, providing a soft and modern feel- A unique twist on escort display by hanging the escort cards above the tables within mini bud vases from BHLDN. By doing so, this creates an interactive environment for your guests as they find their escort cards at their table for the evening! Bridal portraits took place outside with the rolling hills and Blue Ridge Mountains in Charlottesville, VA as the backdrop. Florals by Foxtail Cottage incorporated colors of all seasons, with a bridal bouquet that had more touches of Spring/Summer and the centerpieces with tones of Fall/Winter. Peaches and plums were incorporated throughout this shoot, which brought the colors of the florals and other accents together. A vintage Dolce & Gabbana dress from Shop Gossamer had a soft champagne color which is perfect for weddings year round!

The cocktail paired perfectly with the stunning and delicious “barely naked” cake by Cakes by Rachel. Glam Handcrafted Virginia Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Kaytee Lauren

Our wedding for today was a true family affair. It took place on the groom’s family’s property, and both sides pitched in to ensure a carefully curated and stress-free day. Kaytee Lauren and Ballenger & Co Florals were a team to remember working on photography and floral design respectively!

glam handcrafted Virginia wedding - photo by Kaytee Lauren http://ruffledblog.com/glam-handcrafted-virginia-wedding

From the bride, Christine: The location of our wedding was of special significance to us, because it’s Joel’s family home. Two of his other siblings have been married on the property, and it has been so fun to see how each family wedding has been so distinct, yet still so familiar and sweet. The best part of the wedding preparation process was both of our families. Since the wedding was taking place on the family property, everyone was pitching in. Have family everywhere meant that I never had to stress about things getting done, there was always someone was on top of it. I couldn’t have asked for a more supportive family to help us achieve our dream wedding.

Joel and I spent about a week at our brother and sister in-law’s house working on decorations. We scraped, cleaned, and spray painted all of the gold bottles. All of my DIY projects were fun and exhausting. My mother, who is a professional graphic designer, designed the programs and menus. It was fun spending time with her getting the look just right. Joel and I spent hours and hours cutting each program into a circle, gluing them to a stick, and applying gold leaf.

The food was really important to both of us. We decided to forgo the traditional chicken or steak dinner for something that reflected our personalities. Shortly after Joel and I first started dating, we became Eggs Benedict connoisseurs. Throughout our relationship, we’ve hunted Eggs Benedict wherever we go. Before we go on any trip we Google search “the best Eggs Benedict” in that area and go out of our way to get it, so we decided to do breakfast for dinner. The catering company, Savoir Fare, told us they were so excited to be catering a wedding that wasn’t chicken or steak! They loved the breakfast for dinner idea and jumped on board creating a fabulous spread. Joel doesn’t like sweets so we opted out of a traditional wedding cake and served waffles for dessert.

Bow Tie Inspired Wedding Shoot

Wedding Design

Today’s styled shoot is inspired by modern decor, black and white styling, and of course, bow ties. Pinks, yellows, and greens shine against the black and white foundation, and Jenn Finazzo Photography knocks it out of the park not only behind the camera, but also as the stylist, florist, and cake designer. Talk about a quadruple threat!

modern wedding invitations - photo by Jenn Finazzo Photography http://ruffledblog.com/bow-tie-inspired-wedding-shoot

From the photographer, Jenn Finazzo Photography: Although I ripped the name straight from Justin Timberlake himself, I think he would be proud. And he would look GREAT in our chocolate bow tie. Too bad he wasn’t available. The true inspiration behind this shoot was the black and white decor of the venue in Charlottesville, VA. It immediately got me thinking of the Fontainebleau Hotel in Miami. The signature Morris Lapidus bow tie tiles in the lobby quickly became the next inspiration. The bow tie design is featured all around the FB hotel. In the artwork, tiles, napkins and the delicious brownies in the coffee shop. Once we got our hands on the dark and white chocolate brownie bow ties it was game-time.

Our favorite bridal shop was having a Charlie Brear trunk show that week. While I love all of their designs, I immediately fell in love with the tea length number. It was going to go amazingly well with the stunning Emmy London Francesca heels. To die for. The shoot was coming together. Both UK based designers were on board! It took all I had not to log on and track these delicious Francesca shoes at every moment as they arrived from London. They arrived on time with a sweet note from the designer herself. What a nice touch.

Now, for the color. I knew I wanted to throw a pop of color in with the black and white. The vintage mustard yellow ribbon from Etsy shop, Planstar was the next vision. It went extremely well with the beautiful velvet hot pink Mrs. Box provided by Suz Somersall. Also from Suz, the Deco Ring, The Rope Crystal Edwardian Cuff, and the Pearl Gemma Drop Earrings. Then came the roses. The garden roses. The David Austin garden roses. Ahh! I have a secret love for florals and really wanted to design them myself. From the green hanging amaranthus and jasmine to the black and white anemone, these gorgeous florals were lighting up my house for days before the shoot! Not to mention the 20 feet of lush garlands made of Ivy, Springerii, jasmine and variegated pittosporum. The cake was also made by me. A white chocolate mosaic design on the outside topped with the white bow tie chocolate and dusty rose Turkish delight. I love how the colors on the cake contrast with our model’s hot pink lipstick in the “second look” shots.

Handcrafted Real Vow Renewal

Wedding Design

Photos by:

V.A. Photography

If you’re thinking of renewing your vows, make sure you check out this beautiful vow renewal from V.A. Photography, Events by Elizabeth Palmer, and One Sweet Day in May. Anna and Greg returned to the same venue where they exchanged vows one year earlier, and shared the same words over again to reaffirm their commitment to one another. White and blue striped table runners, bright pink flowers, and travel-inspired accent pieces were in order for the day!

handcrafted real vow renewal - photo by VA Photography http://ruffledblog.com/handcrafted-real-vow-renewal

From the bride, Anna: We had the most fun and memorable wedding and so when it came to our first anniversary we wanted to go back to our venue where it all started, Historic Tredegar. While at first we wanted to just do a simple anniversary session, being in the wedding industry myself we just kept adding! Getting into the industry shortly after our wedding I kept learning new things I wish we had done or vendors I wished we had used and this shoot offered us the opportunity to play around with some of those ideas. Our wedding was everything we had hoped for and more, but with this anniversary session we took touches from our own wedding and styled it up even more.

We kept with the navy, white, and gold color scheme bringing in pops of colors with our flowers. Ali helped bring in the travel and wanderlust characteristics which was perfect because we both love to travel and explore together. Our guest book at our wedding was actually a ton of vintage postcards from around the world that our guests wrote on and then my mom mailed them to us one at a time during our first year of marriage!

Some back story on us… Like many couples these days, we met online on Match.com but that certainly didn’t mean there were no fun stories of when we first met! Our first date was at South Carolina vs. Kentucky basketball game where Greg showed up late (I should have picked up on this foreshadowing!) and then was too nervous to eat any of his meal at dinner after the game. This is the only time I’ve ever seen him leave food on his plate in the four and a half years we’ve been together. After grad school I found a job in Richmond, VA and Greg joined me there as we started a life together. Shortly after we got engaged and began planning our wedding in our new hometown. We were excited to have all of our friends and family come to town and so decided to have our wedding in the heart of downtown at Historic Tredegar, which was an ironworks during the Civil War. Greg is a history teacher and the Civil War is one of his specialties, so it was a neat place for us to say “I do”! We threw traditional out the window and chose food trucks over catering which allowed our guests to enjoy some of the best tacos, burgers, and barbecue that Richmond has to offer. While there were so many fun foods and things to do at our wedding our favorite parts were our first look, our ceremony (which was officiated by my grandfather), and dancing the night away with our friends and family!

For our first anniversary it took me a while to think of what to get Greg that would follow the tradition of paper. Since we wrote our own wedding vows, I decided that I wanted to have them all written out so we could hang them in a gallery wall in our bedroom. I’m not quite sure how I had the patience to write them out and make them fit, but after having to redo Greg’s several times I finally got them all to fit. It was so special to make this gift and and give him something that will give us a daily reminder of the promises that we made to each other.

Berry Toned Spring Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

Berry tones might go hand in hand with fall wedding decor, but they fit right at home with spring weddings too. Erika Lynn Photography and Blushing Blooms put together this stylish shoot with an eye-catching array of pink and fuchsia flowers used for the bride’s bouquet, her flower crown, and even a beautiful hanging flower backdrop!

berry toned spring wedding editorial - photo by Erika Lynn Photography http://ruffledblog.com/berry-toned-spring-wedding-editorial

From the florist and designer, Jamie of Blushing Blooms: We wanted to create a different setting for a classic bride, we were inspired by the bare curved tree branches and created a beautiful backdrop for any couple to say their I do’s. We also added sweet woodland touches like moss and bird’s nests, and if you look closely you can see a small snail that made his way into the bride’s bouquet… what a sneaky snail!

Southern Neutral Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

When you have striking architectural pieces readily available, sometimes the inspiration just flows. Katelyn James Photography and Amanda Veronee put together this styled shoot inspired by two ornate doors, managing to work them into both a ceremony setup and a reception display! A paper scroll with calligraphy and also a paper flower backdrop served as equally eye-catching elements for this beautiful shoot.

southern neutral wedding editorial - photo by Katelyn James Photography http://ruffledblog.com/southern-neutral-wedding-editorial

From the photographer, Katelyn James Photography: This southern shoot was inspired by a neutral palette and soft tones. The massive ornate doors were the start of the inspiration. We knew we wanted to use this gorgeous piece and so then we worked the rest of the shoot around it! This shoot has a hint of shabby chic but also had just enough “sparkle” to make it a tad glamorous. Enjoy these images and don’t miss the classic car that decided to make an appearance!

Elegant Latin Hacienda Styled Wedding

Wedding Design

The rich colors in today’s styled shoot from Maureen Pacheco Photography, Bodamaestra, and Buttercups Floral Design are a perfect match for the theme, an elegant Latin wedding with a hint of watercolor and breathtaking floral design. We especially love the idea of a drink shot table with various tequilas (and mini bottles of tequilas for the guest favors)!

elegant Latin hacienda styled wedding - photo by Maureen Pacheco Photography http://ruffledblog.com/elegant-latin-hacienda-styled-wedding

From the event planner/designer Esme Krahn of Bodamaestra: All of our creatives minds worked so well together. We proudly collaborated almost in every single design aspect. We couldn’t find a more authentic venue to feature our Elegant Latin Wedding than Morais Vineyards & Winery. Located about an hour southwest of Washington D.C. in a beautiful part of rural Virginia, the architecture of this hidden gem reflects the Morais family’s Portuguese heritage. From the rustic yet elegant tasting room to the magnificent Grand Ballroom to the romantic outdoor spaces, this amazing venue is filled with warmth and luxury. We choose marsala, gold, ivory, peach, green and red shades to bring together a sophisticated look with all the drama and romanticism often overlooked in a Latin wedding. Our special touches included lace finishes, Spanish fans, and golden decor. We wanted to move away from your typical Cinco-de-Mayo wedding theme while at the same time retaining an authentic Latin feel.

The result of the initial design was interpreted to perfection by Wave Crest Calligraphy. Our wedding invitation, which was created in watercolor, incorporated all the beautiful colors of our palette. In addition to the stationery, Kim designed the Bride and Groom’s wooden signs, menu and escort cards, adding the perfect cultural touch. Buttercups Floral Design incorporated parrot tulips, hellebores, mums, ivy, spray roses, and ranunculus to create the bride’s bouquet, groom’s boutonniere, centerpieces, and our distinctive floral piñata. Laura skillfully designed a custom birch-wood stand for the piñata, which framed our sweetheart table in a elegant and unique way. We chose an absolutely stunning Angel Rivera gown from Soliloquy Bridal Couture – which our Venezuelan model wore to perfection. The Mantilla Company, provided the perfect complement to our spectacular dress – a cathedral-length Spanish mantilla. This veil is made with soft tulle and beautiful French Chantilly lace.

Creating such a detailed array of sweets for this shoot was an art. Simply Elegant Delights meticulously produced cake pops, candied apples, chocolates and rice crispy treats, all in harmony with the wedding theme. Gateau Distinctive Cakes, designed a sleek, organic wedding cake. The innovative creation featured a white-lace appliqué over fondant in ivory using gold ribbon between each tier. Natural flowers were the final touch for Gateau’s simple and elegant masterpiece.

Gold Glam Vineyard Wedding in Virginia

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

A Muse Photography

A romantic vineyard wedding is always a show stopper and this gorgeous event from A Muse Photography and Amore Events by Cody will blow you away. With a dreamy backdrop and glamorous gold accents, sweet couple Liz and Zach’s wedding was a memorable affair.

gold glam vineyard wedding in Virginia - photo by A Muse Photography http://ruffledblog.com/gold-glam-vineyard-wedding-in-virginia

From the bride, Liz: Even though I’m a designer and like to think I’ve got a great sense of style and vision…I’m probably among the most indecisive people on earth… so to be honest- I didn’t really have a clear vision of the feel we were trying to create. There are SO many different ways you can go style wise and that’s where our wedding planner with amazing vision and taste came in. It was really helpful to have somebody understand what I was going for on a more broad level and to then help me pull all of my little details together in the end to create one cohesive beautiful look.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My number 1 piece of advice is to hire a wedding planner and number 2 is to try to find room in your budget for a videographer. Our wedding video is one of my most cherished things from our wedding day. Obviously the pictures are an amazing keepsake but the whole day felt so surreal so to be able to go back and see and hear everything is priceless to us! And lastly, just try not to sweat the small stuff! Being engaged and wedding planning should be fun so just think big picture and try to keep calm and carry on!

Relaxed and Elegant Wedding in Charlottesville

Elegant Weddings

We love that today’s bride, Jamie, knew the importance of putting personal touches on her wedding day, so she set out to include as many projects as possible to make sure the day was tailor-made for her relationship with beau Nate. At the time of their wedding, Jamie and Nate had been together for nine and a half years already, so there was much to celebrate! Sera Petras Photography and Amore Events by Cody truly outdid themselves on this one.

relaxed and elegant wedding in Charlottesville - photo by Sera Petras Photography http://ruffledblog.com/relaxed-and-elegant-wedding-in-charlottesville

From the bride, Jamie: We really wanted our wedding to be an intimate affair that truly reflected Nate and I as a couple. We originally thought we’d go for rustic elegance, but through the planning process, we ended up switching gears slightly to be more relaxed elegance, with a romantic feel. It was very important to us that our guests feel welcome and comfortable and that the day be filled with personal touches. I’m super detail oriented, and Nate and I have been together for so long [9.5 years on our wedding day! We met in college ;)], so it was actually pretty easy for us to make decisions and we knew immediately upon meeting our vendors who we wanted to have as a part of our day.

Our ceremony also very much reflected us as a couple, from our individual and personalized vows (we each wrote our own) to our unique ceremony reading (a children’s book, “A Lovely Love Story”) to our amazing officiant who infused anecdotes about me and Nate throughout the ceremony. It was also very important to us that everyone have fun at our wedding, so a great band was high up on the list of must-haves. Our band kept everyone on the dance floor and I truly can’t imagine having more fun!

We went with a neutral palette – blush, cream, white, gold, with navy added in for the men’s attire. I’m a huge fan of gold and glitter, so we included gold touches wherever it made sense. We also had custom drink stirrers with our monogram, straw tags with our wedding date, and napkins with personalized sayings. I am all about DIY because of the personalization that accompanies it, and some of my favorite wedding projects include the following: I made a word search about me, Nate, and our relationship to keep guests entertained while waiting for the ceremony to begin. I taught myself modern calligraphy and addressed all of our invitations myself, and I also created our cocktail hour, dessert table, and bar signage. I spray painted leaves gold and wrote guest names in calligraphy on each one to use as place cards. This was by far my favorite project, and one that I knew I would do from the moment we got engaged. It was super exciting to see it come to fruition and to hear our guests tell me how much they loved them! Our welcome bags included cookies made by my mom (some in the shape of Virginia and Vermont, to reflect our home states), granola made by Nate’s mom, maple syrup from Nate’s hometown in Vermont (his parents tap maple trees for fun), and Virginia peanuts in little burlap bags.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Yes, my biggest piece of advice is to have fun! Enjoy this amazing time with your fiancé(e) and don’t get overwhelmed by the decisions and the details. Wedding planning can seem daunting, but at the end of the day, all that really matters is that you’re marrying the love of your life – so don’t lose sight of that! Also, as an event planner myself, I can’t stress the importance of hiring at least a day-of coordinator. You shouldn’t be stressing about a single thing on your wedding day, and you will greatly alleviate (if not eliminate) any anxiety by having someone there to take care of the details on your big day.

Organic Greenhouse Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Adam Barnes

As soon as we heard Adam Barnes, Ashley Baber Weddings, and The Arrangement Company were working together for a styled shoot, we knew we were in for some serious pretty. The resulting editorial didn’t disappoint, mixing muted pastels with endless beautiful anemones and plenty of eye-catching calligraphy.

From the event designer, Amanda Gray of Ashley Baber Weddings: Natural elements and textures served as inspiration for this early Spring shoot. Marbling and floral bulbs mixed with muted pastels and dark hues created a fresh backdrop. The bride donned layers of lace and tulle, the first look provided by Lovely Bride and Jaclyn Jordan NY. The second look, a sleek lace illusion bodice gown by Watters paired with a fur shoal for the reception. The grooms paper white boutonniere was a fresh compliment to the brides bouquet.

The bridesmaid gown from Joanna August made the muted pastel bouquet the focus as she walked down the aisle. Jewels by Suz Somersall highlighted those warm yellow/peach tones. Stationery from Thick and Thin calligraphy echoed the mix of dark and light, adding a gold elegance element with a marbled paper envelope liner. The greenhouse setting was filled with trees and plants and copious amounts of natural light, in this chilly time of year. The table was set with a black velvet linen to provide texture and marble gold chargers match elements from the stationery. Calligraphed leather tags served as place cards and the unique escort card design by Thick and Thin added to the textured elegance. A live painter was also available to capture the reception, for the couple to treasure for years to come!

Modern Industrial Romance Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Few things are better than building off of an all-white color palette. Katie Nesbitt Photography and Dear Sweetheart Events used the stark white walls, white wedding cake, and black and white wedding invitations as the foundation for their styled modern industrial wedding shoot, and then added in touches of orange, red, peach, gold, and green to add a bit of pizazz.

Modern Industrial Romance Wedding Ideas - photo by Katie Nesbitt Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-industrial-romance-wedding-ideas

From the photographer, Katie Nesbitt: Kat Schmoyer of Dear Sweetheart Events and I teamed up to create a themed styled shoot for a workshop I hosted over the summer for wedding photographers. The theme was Modern Industrial Romance! We wanted to bring in industrial elements and mix them with soft, romantic and natural pieces to create a wedding that felt really unique for a Virginian bride. The shoot turned out to be very romantic, pretty, and also playful and sweet! I loved how Kat used driftwood and antlers on the table to create a show stopping centerpiece!

Shenandoah Valley Wedding

What could be cozier than a bed and breakfast wedding? Melissa and Kyle had once stayed at Virginia’s The Inn at Vaucluse Spring and knew it would be the perfect home for their wedding day. Brooke Courtney Photography and florist Wild Green Yonder were the perfect matches to bring the couple’s vision to reality!

From the bride, Melissa: Our ceremony and reception were held at The Inn at Vaucluse Spring, a beautiful 100-acre bed-and-breakfast in Virginia’s Shenandoah Valley, about 90 minutes from DC. We’d stayed there once years before and fell in love with it. Our wedding was the perfect opportunity to go back — this time with 50 of our closest friends and family. Kyle and I didn’t necessarily have a clear-cut theme for the wedding, as much as we had little details that we wanted to incorporate. We originally met six years ago as writers, so we tried to sneak that into the decor — in book titles, in postcards that doubled as our guestbook, and in the (not-so-subtle!) typewriter.

Flower recipe: Instead of identical floral arrangements at each table, we used various scattered stems and wildflowers — all pieced together by our amazing florist, Lori at Wild Green Yonder. We asked her for two main things: color and texture — and we got both of them. Flowers included dahlias, celosias, cockscombs, scabiosa pods, yarrow, and Joe Pye weed, and everything was grown locally in Virginia.

Trying to keep things budget-friendly where possible, we DIY’ed a lot of the decor. Kyle built the postcard stand with dowels, wood stain, and twine. I designed all of the printed signage using Photoshop and cardstock. We thrifted old books and glass bottles, and used them as tablescapes. (Also fairly budget-friendly: We’re dressed in J. Crew, and my flats are from Payless.) My dad passed away almost a decade ago, and it was really important to me to remember him on my wedding day. For the ceremony, I left the chair next to my mom empty for him, marking it with a ribbon and a few blooms. At our guest check-in table, I kept a lantern lit in his memory, and in place of favors, we made a donation to the American Cancer Society in his honor.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Agree on when to save, and when to splurge. While our overall wedding was fairly budget-friendly, our one splurge was our out-of-state photographer. Photography was really important to us, and we were willing to spend a bit more on that because — after all the food is eaten, and after all the songs are played — photos are one of the few tangible things you’ll be able to take away from a wedding. So do your research and look for a photographer that you really love: their style, their personality (you’ll be spending tons of time with them!), and most of all, their end product.

Natural + Romantic Wedding with Macrame Details

Garden Weddings

How could you possibly go wrong with a macramé backdrop for your wedding ceremony? Kathryn and Nathan’s wedding was an ideal blend of vendor talent (Tart Event Co. and The Green Flamingo to name a few) and helping hands of family and friends. The blend resulted in a romantic, personal, yet sophisticated day, all captured by Jeffrey C. Gleason Photography.

From the event designers, Tart Event Co.: Kathryn and Nathan’s story began when they met in 8th grade. The following nine years were filled with memorable high school & college experiences together, but also times of great loss. Kathryn & Nathan found their love strengthening as they supported each other through the devastating loss of a grandfather, a best friend, a brother and a father. During their wedding planning process, it was important to them both that these loved ones were remembered. With the help of their family and friends, their ceremony and reception was a celebration of love and support, filled with handcrafted details and thoughtful moments of honor and remembrance.

Vendors and friends came together to create a magical ceremony set-up for Kathryn and Nathan. A foraged branch arch from a friend’s backyard was topped with a handmade macramé piece, both created by two of the couples’ dear friends, and finished off with a gorgeous flower piece from the Green Flamingo. The intimate space was accented with bright red rose petals placed in-between wooden mismatched chairs and benches from Paisley and Jade. All of these elements created the intimate & natural space that the couple envisioned to welcome their guests and host their vows to one another. There was not a dry eye when Nathan greeted his bride and her mother at the end of the aisle as Kathryn’s brother-in-law played an acoustic cover of Bright Eyes’ “First Day of My Life” on the guitar.

At the reception, a personal touch was integrated into every detail. The bridesmaids gathered the day before the wedding at a flower bruncheon to create the floral table arrangements. The cake was topped with more bright florals and a laser cut cake topper, which integrated the handlettering from the couple’s custom stationary. The table numbers were hand painted by the bride, and another friend created a custom brewed IPA beer (“Hoppily Ever After”) just for the occasion. Boka Kantina, whose food truck is a weekly visit for the bride and groom, provided a taco buffet, much to the delight of every guest. Continuing the Mexican food theme was a traditional sangria and a bucket of churros on the sweets table. The speeches by the bride’s two sisters and the groom’s brother were filled with touching words of support, endearment and an overwhelming show of love for a couple who have supported each other through the best of times and hardest of days. Like all good parties, there was much dancing and fun to end the evening.

Clifton Inn Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

One spot that never ceases to amaze us with its Southern charm these days is Charlottesville, VA. We’ve featured quite a few shoots and weddings in this pretty town, and today we’re bringing you another thanks to the talents of Rachel May Photography, Amore Events by Cody, and Whimsical Floral Design. There’s a good bit of peach and ivory prettiness ahead, so let’s jump on in!

From the stylist, Amore Events by Cody: The beautiful details of The Clifton Inn inspired our color palette of reds, greens, and peaches in our style, color scheme, and décor. This simple and neutral beauty is emphasized through the bride’s windswept hair and flowing veil and lace dress. Included in our shoot are flowers, candles, and gold-rimmed wine glasses to set the tone and mood for our evening of celebration. In this instance, our decorations serve as warm neutrals in an outdoor and scenic wedding: they work to compliment the existing beauty The Clifton Inn offers.

Intimate Charlottesville Wedding

Romantic Weddings

If you were hoping for a dose of elegance, then today is your lucky day thanks to Jon Schaaf Photography and Mallory Joyce. Stephanie and Chris’ Virginia wedding was ‘casually elegant,’ mixing rich fall tones with classic gold and white touches throughout the reception. Don’t you just love Stephanie’s BHLDN wedding gown?

From the bride, Stephanie: We wanted our wedding to feel casually elegant, just like its setting at my aunt and uncle’s house in Charlottesville, Virginia. We’d planned an outdoor ceremony, but, when the day came, it poured! And I’m so happy it did, because the resulting ceremony was wonderfully intimate – all of our family and closest friends packed into the house to share the moment with us. I didn’t want to choose a single color for the wedding, but went with colors inspired by the changing season – deep reds, shades of purple, soft peaches, and yellows. In keeping with the casually elegant feel, we kept the place settings white and gold.

We chose vendors who, if they weren’t already friends, felt like they could be our friends. Mallory, who coordinated our wedding and styled much of it, is a very talented friend of my sister’s. A dear friend, Allie, created our invitations, escort cards, and menus. Another friend, Ansley, created any signage, and my cousin, Kim, played violin for our ceremony. Our DJ’s (all three of them!) traveled from South Carolina to celebrate with us. Sam, who did my hair and makeup, had also done hair and makeup for two of my sisters on their wedding days. And Jon, our photographer, made every photo a comfortable, effortless event for us. Mallory designed our floral arrangements herself — everything from roses and berries to a touch of eucalyptus. She went foraging the day before the wedding to add foliage truly authentic to the place.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Determine your boundaries — be they budget or number of guests — early in the process. And rely heavily on others in your life — your very capable mom, mother-in-law, and your wedding coordinator — if you can. Chris and I were in the midst of career changes and a move half-way across the country, so we enjoyed the process so much more by leaving many of the details to others we trusted. When the day comes, commit to enjoying it no matter what happens. It won’t be perfect (it might rain), but it can’t help but be joyful!

Wedding Music:

Recessional: Simple Gifts; Somewhere Over the Rainbow
First Dance: “Overwhelmed,” Tim McMorris

From the wedding planner, Mallory Joyce: When Stephanie and Chris got engaged, they immediately knew they wanted to be married in beautiful Charlottesville with the Blue Ridge Mountains framing their celebration. Stephanie’s uncle’s home, with its panoramic views and family memories, was the perfect location. Not ones to get caught up in what can be a lot of wedding noise, Stephanie and Chris kept just a few things at the forefront of their minds throughout the planning: making a large wedding feel like an intimate family affair, simple yet elegant decor, a meaningful faith-filled ceremony, and a delicious dinner party. Stephanie was the image of grace and beauty throughout the day. Even when a torrential downpour moved her outdoor ceremony inside, the couple remained focused on what matters most: their love for each other, a commitment made in front of all their dearest family and friends. We transformed the living room with garlands, florals, and candles, and as the rain poured down, we had a gorgeous ceremony indoors. The reception was held under a beautiful white peaked tent with guests enjoying a carefully selected menu at long tables adorned with whimsical flowers in deep reds to softer pinks and yellows and with touches of gold in the paper details and place settings. It rained for the majority of the wedding, but it only made the tent feel more cozy, with guests dancing the night away by candlelight.
