Vinewood Plantation Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Shauna Veasey Photography is gracing us today with this lovely wedding inspiration draped in the dreamiest vintage styling by J.Elliott Style you could imagine. Set in Georgia, this wedding editorial has got that feel of southern charm with a delightful juxtaposition of ample greenery and botanical arrangements by Virtu Floral Design. Rather than going the blooms route, they went for the foraged feel with spongy moss and air plants for the main table and lovely, wild creations for the bouquets; and it must be said: hello, ceremony backdrop! If you’re aiming to create wedding arrangements that incorporate more foliage than fleurs, this organic wedding inspiration has got heaps of pin-worthy ideas!

Vinewood Plantation Wedding Inspiration - http://ruffledblog.com/vinewood-plantation-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, J.Elliott Style: Inspired by a soft and muted Pantone color palette, we chose flowy iridescent fabrics to complement an organic and subdued aesthetic for this shoot. We paired bold mixings of loose and airy arrangements of greenery with very few blooms to create an earthy and foraged feel. Air plants, magnolias and thistle were a few of the floral accents we chose to enhance the bouquet and tablescape. The neutral Pantone color palette consisted of dusty blue, ivory, dusty pink, gray and old tarnished metals.

The head table was dressed with glass terrariums filled with moss and air plants. A thick arrangement of greenery and hanging lights hung above the table to draw the eye upward. Coordinating handmade paper flowers dressed the wall behind the table to add texture and color to the backdrop. The ceremony site took place under the wedding tree and featured mix matched antique chairs and wooden backdrop dressed with thick greenery and air plants.

Romantic Wedding Inspiration in an Old Textile Mill

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Charla Storey

First things first: today’s shoot has some beautiful photography by Charla Storey, no doubt about that. Secondly, we completely understand why Grit + Gold wanted to get first dibs on having an inspiration shoot in The BRIK on the verge of their grand opening. This place has such a lovely blend of industrial, modern, and vintage, and those wide open spaces are perfect for crafting whatever tablescape styles to your heart’s content. Which is exactly what they did! With superb floral work from Oh Deery, they transformed this textile mill-turned-epic wedding venue into a romantic spot, complete with a vintage-style wedding dress, gauzy fabrics on anything that would stay put, and yummy eats.

vintage wedding dresses - photo by Charla Storey http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-wedding-inspiration-in-an-old-textile-mill

From the wedding planner, Grit + Gold: When this team hears about a new venue on the brink of opening, what do we do? We pull a fab team together and christen the place. The BRIK, an old textile mill with raw wood floors, shabby white brick walls, and huge windows lends the perfect formula to create the most romantic of settings. I wanted to style several food displays in the shoot to really give the images living and breathing qualities rather than just perfectly staged displays. I wanted it to feel as though each image was interactive with the audience. Something that the person looking at it would relate to. Possibly the reminiscence of a grandmother or watching mom prepare a table at home with a great spread of food. Then taking those emotions and infusing them into a bride’s most important day.

Ethereal Victorian Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Victorian style is always full of flair and such creative inspiration, from the colors and the floral arrangements to the concepts. The ideas are endless and Emcee Studio Photographie captured such a stunning take on this always-breathtaking trend. Complete with a divine high-necked dress and a delicious naked wedding, Wood and Rose added to the mix with their centerpieces and a dreamy jewel-toned bouquet made of roses and greenery that looks freshly-plucked from an English garden.

vintage wedding ideas - photo by Emcee Studio Photographie http://ruffledblog.com/ethereal-victorian-inspired-wedding-ideas

From the photographer, Emcee Studio Photographie: This photo shoot is inspired by a deep vibrant color palette with golden undertone against a nostalgic backdrop that contain pieces carefully curated by Fox and Finch Vintage Rentals. This shoot is designed to have an ethereal texture, accentuated by Victorian style details such as the bridal gown and cocktail dress. Wood and Rose puts together a dazzling bridal bouquet that mesmerizes you with luscious roses on a wild, unruly yet stunning base made of peppermint willow, leucadendron, fern and eucalyptus. The stern but elegant thistles add daintiness to the arrangement, bringing delicacy to the bouquet without taking away the fullness of the more voluminous flowers.

Modern Metallic Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

This wedding editorial by Kate Touzel Photography has fab written all over it. Designed by Forever & a Day Events and Design and floral creations by Damsel Floral Co, this shoot blended classic and bohemian elements with modern, geometric twists. Taking a further look at the beautiful photos, just the simple addition of muted tones like mauve and burgundy add in a darling dash of vintage. It’s incredible how such different styles blended so well!

From the event designer, Forever & a Day Events and Design: I was inspired by the classic bride, who captures a timeless aesthetic, and by the bohemian bride, who captures a whimsical aesthetic with touches of structure. I fell in love with the peacock accent color and added the mauve and burgundy to really make it pop!

Come Fly Away With Me Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

What better way to have an elopement than to fly away in a hot air balloon? Elizabeth Moore Photography was there to capture the day’s shoot and her photos did it justice! From them we see a shoot flowing with color and fun, seen in the beautiful and vibrant floral arrangements by Forte Florals and the overall styling by the photographer herself. It’s got equal parts vintage and modern flair thrown in, and heaps and heaps of dreamy romance.

Wallpaper and Watercolor Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

In today’s inspiration shoot, we’re taking a willing dive deep into some romantic wedding ideas combined with beautiful vintage prints and accents. B. Jones Photography was one of the creatives behind this ultra-feminine shoot and it was nothing short of fun ideas, interesting concepts, and a delightful color palette. Drawing inspiration from vintage wallpaper and the latest watercolor trend making splashes in the wedding world, this shoot went above and beyond to show us a side of vintage and florals that calls back to a time of daintiness, softness, and elegance.

pink wedding ideas - photo by B. Jones Photography http://ruffledblog.com/wallpaper-and-watercolor-wedding-ideas

From the photographer, B. Jones Photography: The idea behind our romantic watercolor shoot was to combine the beauty found in the imperfect. We’ve been loving the incomplete edges found in classic watercolor paintings, as well as the comeback that vintage wallpaper has been making in interior design. With inspiration from both design stances, you will find a wooden backdrop styling a gorgeous wallpaper and overgrown florals, as well as peach and olive green watercolor accents across the tablescape, cakes, and invitation suite. This look is for the bride who wants to add vintage touches to her wedding while maintaining a very classic look.

Southern Charm Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Rad Red Creative

This charming and whimsical Florida wedding captured by Rad Red Creative is a total must-see. It has the most delightful vintage details and the way Susie and Hayden dressed up The Southern Barn is such a dream. They left no vintage stone unturned and everything from their wedding stationery to their reception’s wedding lounge area has shabby chic and antique written all over it. To complement the day, Bloomingdale Florist created elegant floral arrangements with a variety of colors and florals like peonies and garden roses. The forecast of rain definitely did not cast a shadow on this beautiful and wonderfully-detailed day!

Florida wedding venues - photo by Rad Red Creative http://ruffledblog.com/southern-charm-florida-wedding

From the bride, Susie: Springtime in Florida has some of the best weather. Generally nice and sunny during the day and cooler in the evenings. Plants and flowers are at their peak of blooming and coming into fullness and color. We also got engaged in March of the previous year and hoped for about a year-long engagement. We gave ourselves about a full year to plan so that we were really able to take or time picking out our favorite vendors and figuring out how we could best use this day to not only celebrate our love but also to reflect both of our personalities, individually and together.

Kentucky Derby Inspired Wedding

Wedding Design

Are you still in need of some gorgeous southern inspiration for your big day? Thanks to Finnegan Photography, we’ve got this delightfully-southern inspiration on the blog today, complete with those larger-than-life bows and hats, a dapper gentleman, and florals out of this world from Joann’s FloristCarlson Premier Events pulled together a shoot that called upon equestrian elegance and loveliness of My Fair Lady. The blending of the two themes created a final product so darling! What’s captivated me most are the centerpieces and how the entire space was dolled up in magnificent blooms, perfectly matching the prim and properness of the whole shoot.

Kentucky Derby Inspired Wedding photo by Finnegan Photography http://ruffledblog.com/kentucky-derby-inspired-wedding

From the photographer, Finnegan Photography: This Savannah, Georgia vintage wedding is all about style and grace as the details come together to become an event filled with inspiration of Kentucky Derby elegance. The Barn at Red Gate Farms is the perfect venue to host a southern engagement. Vintage pieces draped in gold and pink accents compliment the classic look of black and white that could create a timeless set of wedding portraits. All of the beautiful details and wardrobe reflect an inspired “My Fair Lady” look, and the gorgeous Savannah backdrop makes for the perfect southern affair.

Intimate Russian Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Maria Levitska

With the expertise of Floral Dreams, Anastasia and Anton dressed up their wedding with adorable vintage accents from the chalkboard ceremony backdrop with paper cranes, fun props and a Polaroid camera. Julia Chashina continued the floral focus and created the most beautiful box planter centerpiece I’ve laid my eyes on, complete with a stunning floral crown for the bride’s updo. I think my most favorite part of this wedding were the outdoor shots Maria Levitska captured of the couple. Simply breathtaking and such a gorgeous look into the Russian countryside!

intimate Russian wedding - photo by Maria Levitska http://ruffledblog.com/intimate-russian-wedding

From the photographer, Maria Levitska: When preparing for the wedding, the couple did not plan to create a celebration in a certain style and did not restrict themselves to any color palette. On the wedding photography of Anton and Anastasia there is a certain Russian expanse, the waters of our great Volga river, a pond with a herd of grazing nearby and even wind turbines in the field. The elopement itself with the notes of industrial style harmoniously blended into the overall concept. Dinner was on the veranda in a rustic style and Provence. As a photographer I really enjoy shooting these two as they are not only beautiful but also open-hearted people.

Retro Vegas Inspired Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Studio Castillero

I’m not sure what I love most about this Studio Castillero and Bright Blue Events wedding day: Stefany’s big bouffant or the kooky Elvis impersonator that surely entertained their guests. Overall, I think I’m more enamored with the fact Stefany and David chose such a unique theme of retro Vegas weddings for their own wedding day style. The wooden reception tables were arranged with small centerpieces overflowing with blooms such as colorful hydrangeas and peonies. And check out that sweetheart table! Two mismatched chairs with a floral table runner in front and mint green, French-style doors topped off with a heart made out of more florals behind them. I definitely couldn’t help falling in love with this wedding!

retro Vegas inspired wedding - photo by Studio Castillero http://ruffledblog.com/retro-vegas-inspired-wedding

From the event planners and designers, Bright Blue Events: Let’s start with the inspiration. Stefany & David wanted their wedding to be full of little nods to retro Vegas weddings, you know – the Elvis era. Stefany rocked a Priscilla Presley beehive hairstyle, the photobooth backdrop was covered in pink plastic flamingos, as was their invitation suite, and a real Elvis impersonator sang them through their First Dance song, I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You.

However, because their wedding was in the beautiful Topanga Canyon, they wanted to play up the pretty as well. Wooden farm tables were topped with lush peony arrangements, their sweethearts table seating and backdrop were vintage furniture pieces from Circa Rentals, and a tall, beautiful flower-covered naked cake sat nearby.

Aside from the retro Vegas details, the couple wanted to include some elements that showed who they were as a couple. Instead of traditional escort cards, the groom hand-drew each guest’s face and put the drawing in a little frame with their table number, which ended up being a real crowd-pleaser. They requested guests write their well-wishes on vintage postcards the couple had collected, in lieu of a guestbook. Each guest’s place setting had a little gold-painted animal with their name written on a watercolor-painted tag, made by the couple. Every little detail of this wedding showed Stefany & David’s thoughtfulness, creativity, and personality.

Modern Industrial Art Deco Editorial

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Joey T Photography

Today’s styled shoot is the result of mixing a bit of vintage, a dash of modern, and a hint of glam into one truly stylish event. Joey T Photography, Two Be Wed, and Oui Floral pooled their collective talents to highlight masculine vs feminine elements — IE, the angular lines typical of Art Deco contrasted against the bride’s tulle skirt and lush, tall centerpieces. Love!

modern industrial Art Deco editorial - photo by Joey T Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-industrial-art-deco-editorial

From the event designers, Two Be Wed: Inspired by The Astorian’s sleek industrial architecture and art deco touches, we set out to create an inspiration shoot that captured a modern and luxurious feel. One of our absolute favorite touches that really set the tone for the design, was the dress provided by Now and Forever Bridal Boutique. We knew as soon as we saw it, that this Hayley Paige dress was meant for what we were designing. The structure and design of the bodice, along with the flowing pleated skirt was the perfect combination of masculine and feminine. This carried over to our invitation suite provided by Bering’s Hardware. The lines on the stationery reflected the lines of the dress, and how could we resist the suite which was appropriately named “Gatsby.”

The amazing floral arrangements for the shoot were put together by Oui Floral. The designs included unusual and textural pieces that created a modern and architectural feel. The mirror and metal containers highlighted the industrial aspects of the venue. We also designed the table to be minimal and symmetrical, to where there would be nothing between you and the guest across from you, creating the ideal flow for conversation. This could be easily recreated on any long reception table. The most unique floral design was the groom’s boutonniere – nothing says like masculine like wrapped in metal.

A key element in the overall table designed was the hand selected, mix-matched china. We mixed two patterns from Bering’s, Robert Haviland Syracuse Taupe and Jaune de Chrome. While the Robert Haviland pieces provided an art deco inspired pattern, the Jaune de Chrome pattern was the perfect choice for a more masculine and industrial feel. This unique pattern is created by a special technique that combines rich, metallic glazes with refined colors. We had Sugary and Chic replicate this pattern onto the cake with an unusual shape to highlight the modern design and unique structure of the space.

When Jenafer’s grandmother gave her a white fur muff she wore on her own wedding day, Jena paid this gift the tribute it deserved by using it as a linchpin for her entire wedding decor and look. Using her own talented eye with business The City Hippy Studio and bringing on board some of the Pacific Northwest’s most talented vendors, including Dylan & Sara, Vanity Affair Event, and Swoon Floral Design, this wedding day was a vintage lover’s dream come true.

From the bride, Jena: I’ve always been a vintage connoisseur, so I knew I wanted to incorporate my love for vintage somehow. My grandmother had given me a white fur muff that she wore in her wedding when my grandfather passed away, so that muff truly inspired our entire look. It led us to get married in the winter, and inspired me to go the “glam” route vs anything retro, etc. We fell in love with our venue because of it’s gilded walls, eclectic furniture and big personality, so we spent the majority of planning figuring out how to make the event feel uniquely “us”. We kept it intimate and fun even though we were dressed to the nines.

We didn’t choose a color scheme — I wanted my wedding to be very colorful — but I did describe the palette as deep, rich colors to my florist and bridesmaids. I have a wedding stationery business, so I created all of my paper products from invitations to programs & menus to escort cards. I handlettered our signage on vintage art I had thrifted, and created table numbers out of 4×4’s and chalkboard paint. I thrifted vintage medicine bottles and used a vintage label maker to create place cards for my head table. My grandmother on my mother’s side, hand-sewed 11 floral table runners and one 40ft long gold velvet table runner for our giant head table that ran through the middle of the room. I also thrifted 10 vintage fur muffs for my bridesmaids to carry instead of floral bouquets.

Our ceremony was definitely my favorite part of the day. We had chosen readings that were meaningful to us, and our officiant (friend) had created a ceremony perfectly tailored to our personalities and our relationship — he even included marriage advice from my parents who were high school sweethearts. We spent the majority of the reception on the dance floor, singing along and having the occasional dance-off (I won!). For the last song, our friends and family made a giant circle around us on the dance floor, joined arms and cheered us on as we closed down the night. I will never forget that feeling of having everyone we love literally surrounding us in support and encouragement!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Be yourself and fight for what really matters to you. Slow down, and know things will go “wrong” on your day. It won’t matter!

Vintage Inspired Wedding in Downtown LA

Vintage Weddings

The second I saw these images from Monica and James’ wedding at LA’s Oviatt Penthouse, it occurred to me that I might just have a new favorite wedding venue. Rich with architectural details that are a nod to years ago, it’s a beautiful spot that’s sure to inspire any vintage-loving bride. Let’s Frolic Together and Rosebud Floral Design put together some incredible work to tell the couple’s love story, which includes a breathtaking first look on the rooftops of downtown LA!

From the photographer, Jasmine of Let’s Frolic Together: James and Monica’s charmingly Art Deco wedding was filled with delightful details that celebrated the past. The day began at the Los Angeles Athletic Club; this historic hotel set the perfect vintage tone for the day. Monica’s gorgeous Jenny Packman dress, her adorable shoes, the bride’s maids sweet pink frocks, it was all so splendid. I particularly loved the bride’s maids glittering chiffon capelets. On the rooftop of the Athletic Club with their reception venue in the distance, James and Monica saw each other for the first time. Surrounded by the skyscrapers of LA, it was an awesome mesh of history and modernity.

The Oviatt Penthouse provided a rich sense of gorgeous 1920s history, brimming with details from the past. From Monica’s sweet bouquet to the Italian fountains to the checkerboard dance floor the unique details added up to a beautiful story paying homage to the past. It was a true DIY affair as James and his groomsmen set everything up. I loved the giant marquee lights love sign and even when we got rained out during the reception everyone bound together and the energy of the party grew indoors. These dance maniacs were a joy to photograph and the wild day was wonderful from start to finish.

A Vintage Inspired Love Shoot

Wedding Design

Nina & Wes

Where oh where to begin with this romantic styled shoot from Vintage Wedding Love by Greenbrook & Co. and Nina & Wes Photography? All of the lovely little details are as beautiful as the backstory submitted by the stylist, Josephine, who also serves as the model in the shoot alongside her dear husband. Let’s jump on in and take a peek!

a vintage inspired love shoot - photo by Nina and Wes Photography http://ruffledblog.com/a-vintage-inspired-love-shoot

From the event designers, Vintage Wedding Love by Greenbrook & Co.: This love shoot was a much needed breath of fresh air for us and it brought us back to where it all started… Specializing in destination weddings and elopements in Europe, we get to travel to gorgeous places to create and capture beauty, and we love love LOVE what we do! Rarely do we get to travel for ourselves, so when we heard Nina & Wes Photography would be passing through Scandinavia this past summer we knew we had to meet up with them there and take a trip down memory lane, and this time, we got to be the stars of our own creation :D I got to see my charming Swedish groom in his dashing vintage suit, he got to see me in my gorgeous lace gown, and together we got to relive and re-love the little details, sparks and emotions of our big day. We got to feel those butterflies again as we walked down to the water where he asked me to marry him and I was so ecstatic I almost forgot to say “yes”, and then up the hill to our favorite little chapel on the Swedish west coast where my hubby is from.

Working with brides from all over the world, we have the privilege of helping make their wildest dreams come true. We get to be a part of the beginning of their adventure and get to dream along with them as their big day approaches. Planning a wedding is a dream. Marrying the one you love is a dream. When the long awaited wedding day arrives, we feel like our dream finally comes true… And it really does come true. You get to be his Mrs. and he gets to be your man forever. It’s the best feeling ever! We had our dream wedding. Beyond all dreams really… We eloped just the two of us in Scandinavia and then celebrated our wedding later that year with family and friends on the French Riviera.

a vintage inspired love shoot - photo by Nina and Wes Photography http://ruffledblog.com/a-vintage-inspired-love-shoot

We sailed through it all with sparkles in our eyes… and bliss begets bliss… a few months after the honeymoon butterflies were settling down, we were so delighted to find out we were expecting our baby girl. Then, sometimes, once “real life” starts, things aren’t as you imagined. We didn’t anticipate how hard the next few years would be. How hard loss would be. How hard it would be to live through everything not being as it should be through those precious nine months. How hard it would be to hold your breath, and then feel so relieved when baby girl finally got here… From the day she was born, she was in pain. She spent the first eight months of her life in pain. Sleeping 20 minutes at a time and screaming in between. Married life was not as we had imagined and everything but our baby girl got left behind. Before we knew it, by the time she was doing better, we had been married for years and between work, family life, and more work, we had barely had the time to just live it all in and enjoy being together. To enjoy being husband and wife.

Regardless of how hard life can be at times, we are beyond grateful for every moment. Even those hard ones. They really make you appreciate the little things… like getting to play bride and groom again hehe… and sometimes you just need to step back and let some of those first emotions light up again. That’s what this shoot was all about. Nina & Wes made us feel so comfortable in their presence, and we just enjoyed the ride. All of our hardships washed away for a while as we walked along the water and just relaxed together, in love. It was perfect!

Bridal Shower Inspiration

Blue Label

I absolutely love the idea of an intimate bridesmaids tea party… especially when it’s as dreamy as this one thought up by the wonderfully talented Jennifer of Jennifer Laura Design. Flowing fabrics and fresh florals were captured beautifully by Bertuzzi Photography, while the warm summer sun offered the perfect lighting.

tea party aqua streamers // via ruffledblog.com

From the designer, Jennifer: The inspiration for this shoot came from the Rifle Paper Co. “will you be my bridesmaid” cards that I found and thought were SO beautiful. I wanted to create a dreamy and ethereal shoot based on those pretty cards. The idea was that the bride had put together this tea party to ask her bridesmaids to be in her wedding. We hung fabric streamers from the trees and the wind was so perfect that day – it just brought the streamers to life. To get that ethereal look I used a sheer tablecloth which I think is an interesting choice since you can still see the rustic farmhouse table underneath.

For the flowers I used pink peonies and a pretty lavendar limonium with just a hint of seeded eucalyptus. Bourbon and Bloom provided our chairs, teapot, and vases. Their pieces are so special and unique that it added so much to the tablescape. For the dessert spread I wanted to do something very simple and just purchased cakes from the supermarket – ask them not to add the decorative piping for a simple streamlined (and affordable!) look. I added rock candy strung up with ribbons above the dessert cart for a bit of fun and whimsy.

Earthy Oklahoma Wedding Inspiration

Design Inspiration

Casual, vintage elegance was the inspiration for this shoot, and I’d say Leslie Herring Events nailed it. Vibrant pops of yellows, reds, and oranges along with the juxtaposition of industrial and natural textures suits the laid-back Oklahoma lifestyle perfectly. The talented Keidra LeJeune Photography was there to capture it all!

bride groom blanket // via ruffledblog.com

Hair and makeup was very simple. We wanted to accentuate the bride’s obvious natural beauty, not cover it up. Matte, neutral tones were used on the bride’s eyes, along with wispy eyelashes to complement her eye shape. Warm coral blush on the apples of the cheeks and a nude lip topped off her makeup. Hair was curled with a curling wand, and pinned back slightly away from the face, so her long hair would not overwhelm her face. Plus, she is the bride and we want to see her face, right? The gown we provided was Pallas by WTOO by Watters and it is a slim sheath gown with a deep v-neck and back and a mitered chevron pattern.

For the greenery “chandelier” we used salal garland, olive branches, pepper berry and tree of heaven intertwined on a repurposed, industrial cage. Potted succulents in a variety of painted terra cotta pots. Vintage wood toolbox planted with a variety of succulents. Gold and yellow painted wood board with nail head and twine heart with succulents glued into a cluster. The invites were inspired by tribal patterns with arrow accents to complement the vision for the ceremony. For the ceremony itself we designed coordinating program fans, menu cards, buffet labels, cupcake toppers, wine labels and small decorative flags.

Botanical Bloom Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

ALH Photography

Vibrant and vintage tea party meets Spring blooms in the park, this botanical bloom wedding inspiration styled by Kelly Harrison of The Wedding Rabbit with photographs by ALH Photography is just that. Shana Stewart of Sassy Snapdragon Florals put together amazing arrangements full of bright pinks with pops of yellow. So fresh. So romantic.

Botanical Bloom Wedding Inspiration

From the photographer, Ashleigh: Based around the beautiful real love of this gorgeous couple, Nick and Krystle, a team of talented vendors fabricated a botanical wedding inspiration shoot. We based much of the theme around delicate vintage tea saucers, and spring blooms, but incorporated touches of metallic, like DIY mercury vases, to keep it from getting too girly.

The shoot centered around the short and swift bloom of the Cherry Blossom Festival at Washington DC’s Tidal Basin. To echo the blooms, we created simple invitations with a vintage botanical print that we carried through different parts of the day. Hand cut kraft envelopes were lined with the print and easy DIY string tie RSVP envelopes were stamped with retro botanical postage. Both envelopes had a quick metallic spray paint stencil applied for an added pop. We made floral ice cubes to keep cocktails cool by boiling distilled water and layering it with edible flowers. Tea bag shaped escort cards fluttered in the breeze, printed on vellum to allow the sunshine to show through. The bride wore a vintage dress to echo her art deco ring, and various vintage headpieces.

Soft White Bouquet Blooms

Flower Guide

Inspired by a vintage dress and some peonies growing in the garden, this soft and simple white bouquet by Ashley Fox Designs is perfect for a sweet afternoon wedding. Bright yellow accents captured beautifully by Erin Bell Photography give color to an otherwise monochromatic palate. The soft, pink blooming Hawthorne branches frame the Peony, while the ornamental Oregano highlight the sequin-detailed, mod dress perfectly. And, who wouldn’t love a tasty lemon cupcake for an outdoor summer celebration?

Gold Old Hollywood Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

ARTIESE

Inspired by Lana Del Ray’s song “Burning Desire,” this gold and emerald shoot screams old Hollywood glam. Rich emerald hues are scattered throughout the accessories and decor while metallic golds, silvers and pewters serve as the perfect accents. ARTIESE and DU*O Events Toronto were sure to create a romantic and vintage wedding look that embodies the 1950’s, 60’s and 70’s perfectly.

Gold Old Hollywood Inspiration

From the photographer, ARTIESE: The romantic yet glamorous themes of old Hollywood style were the main inspirations. With popular artists like Lana Del Rey bringing back the 50’s-70’s influenced genres, we see a continuing trend developing in today’s fashion and social scene. Her song “Burning Desire” inspired ideas of grandeur as we couldn’t help but play with the vintage and nostalgic suggestions to be incorporated into this shoot. After weeks of searching for a space, we finally found a venue that had the décor we envisioned. The design embodied the perfect 50’s-70’s romantic and rustic style we were looking for.

For this styled shoot we chose to incorporate Emerald, 2013’s color of the year. Described by Pantone as lively, radiant, and lush, we wanted to use it to highlight the design while maintaining a romantic yet rustic feel. Using hints of green in our stationery and other décor details, we presented it in a way that would be emphasized, but not overwhelming. The wedding dress designed by Shirley Ing was a perfect fit for the old Hollywood style we were going for. It really reminded us of the seductive, romantic style portrayed in Lana’s ‘Burning Desire’. Our model offered a beautiful contrast with her lush natural red hair. Encompassing a soft and glamorous essence, she was perfect for this Lana Del Ray inspired shoot.

We chose gold and silver vintage elements for the guest table-setting. We also created our own vintage runner out of doilies and made a fun ‘LOVE’ marquee sign to give the sweets corner some pop. Using antique pewter pots for vases, we incorporated lush floral such as hydrangeas, anemones and garden roses for our centerpiece. To achieve a soft and romantic ambience, we added numerous candles to the setting.

Gold Old Hollywood Inspiration // via ruffledblog.com

The cake and dessert table was decorated with a variety of sweets such as butter cookies, cake pops, donuts, and cupcakes. Using hints of emerald in many elements of sweets table, we wanted to tie it to the theme and colour combinations used in the table setting.

Relaxed and rustic, this Rutgers log cabin wedding photographed by Christina Lilly Photography with designs by Gilded Lily Events is just beautiful. Bright florals and shiny golds stand out against the rich cabin wood, making this one colorful and cozy Fall wedding.

From the wedding planner/designer, Paige at Gilded Lily Events: Our inspiration began by wanting a late Fall wedding and when we saw the log cabin at Rutgers Gardens it was the perfect venue. Our goal was to create a cozy, rustic, family-style feel. The wedding colors came from favorite kilim pillow of mine with shades of pink, burgundy and yellow. With all of the dark wood in the cabin, the yellow and hot pink were great accent colors and added the pop that we love.

To add to the cabin feeling, arrows were a design element used through the reception from the handmade escort cards, menus and table numbers designed by Art, Paper, Scissors Design. On the reception tables, we used a mix of natural, organic elements such as galvanized plates, bamboo utensils, and ceramic vases juxtaposed with glassware with gold rimmed edges and our favorite amber goblets. We always love to make the bride and groom chairs stand out! This bride and groom’s chairs were draped with wool shawls with button accents to create cozy extra special seating. We also added a little whimsy to the decor and the wooden mushrooms and fools gold provided a little something unexpected and something for the guests to talk about!

The flowers by Wallflowers were a knockout with pink peonies, yellow ranunculus, billy balls, pods, wax flowers and seeded eucalyptus just to name a few. We love how they make the simple ceremony structure even more perfect and are a great focal point on the reception tables.

California Hangar Wedding

DIY Weddings

When two pilots get married, celebrating their union in a California air hangar with photographs by Yuliya M. Photography seems like the natural thing to do. This couple’s special day was filled with nothing but love, kisses and clear skies. Oh, and hundreds of really cool paper planes, too! We even spotted one of our favorite projects – the paper cone installation!

hangar wedding

From the photographer, Yuliya: It might have been love at first sight if it weren’t for a bad experience with her first flight instructor. After seeing an amazing aerobatics show, Sophia signed up for classes. Her second instructor seemed nice, but she was only looking for detailed instructions on how to fly and preferably the sooner without his help the better. Bradley, on the other hand, was in for more than just flying. After landing, he would occasionally invite her to lunch. He intended to keep her longer than just instruction time, and she slowly warmed up to him. When the classes were over, it was now her turn to invite him to dinner. Somewhere between their talks, the times spent flying, and enjoying a lunch after, she fell in love, too hard to turn back. Their wedding had clear blue skies ideal for pilots, and their recessional song, “Come Fly With Me,” was a perfect fit to start their married life.

Bradley’s father is a pastor and they held the first part of the wedding at a church and the second part at the airplane hanger. The decorations were inspired by nature, olive green color, Sophia’s love for Anthropologie and flying! Many of Bradley’s friends are extremely talented musicians and they had a live Jazz band and many soloists creating background music for ceremony and reception. Here’s a list of vendors involved plus some more details you might want! ;). Sophia’s bridemaids and friends contributed to many DIY projects throughout the day including paper goods, paper airplanes decorating reception area, table numbers, paper installation above entry way to reception (find tutorial here), ceremony backdrop. The bride also designed her bridesmaid dressed and alterations to her own wedding dress, to create something different and unique.

What style and feel did you envision for your wedding day? I’d say the style was vintage chic. The feel of it was classy, and the food was a delicious taqueria fare which made a lovely and comfortable contrast to the formal attire and spacious seating. Having the reception in the evening created a warm, intimate atmosphere in the aircraft hangar. Overall, our desire was to create an environment for our guests that was both conventional and creative.

Were there any DIY projects involved? We did create three DIY projects. One included chicken wire, card stock paper, kabob sticks and airplane navigation maps. And another consisted of receipt paper, staples and a wooden structure. The last one was definitely the easiest: 300 hundred paper airplanes and twine. These were strung up in the hanger rafters. All projects were done with lots of friends for many hours.

Volatile Photo

Last year, we ran a fun contest with The Lab Event. One lucky couple received an all out gorgeous photoshoot based on their Pinterest wedding inspiration boards, and here’s the winning board. Appropriately titled Poetic Whimsy, this board is filled with blacks, shiny golds and grays. Produced by A + B Creative and captured by Volatile Photo, candles give off a soft glow while lush greens by Twigss cover every surface.

Below is a glimpse into the winning inspiration board! It has a cozy library feel with a dash of industrial. So in love with the color palette! So it started like this…

…and it was brought to life by A + B Creative:

Maryland Vintage Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Nessa K Photography

I’m pretty certain that if you were to search for the word “pretty” in the dictionary, today’s wedding from Nessa K Photography would provide the accompanying image. Bride Katy (who writes a super cute craft blog) wanted her wedding day to feel like a nostalgic summer party, so she filled her reception with family heirlooms, striped straws, and gobs of pink and red to kick up the wow factor.

maryland vintage wedding

From the bride, Katy: We wanted our wedding to feel like a nostalgic, summer backyard party, kicked up a couple notches with tons of details to make it a memorable and love filled event. Adjectives I had in mind while planning our wedding were: nostalgic, quintessential summer, handmade, family, southern, laid back and pretty. We used lots of family heirlooms like generations-old quilts, jars, vases and vessels from family homes, and even the wedding dresses of my mom and both of my grandmothers to make it feel personal.

We didn’t have a strict color scheme since we wanted the beauty of the land to take center stage, but we looked for sherbet colors to play up the summer nostalgic feel – soft pinks, greens, yellows and oranges. We didn’t want anything too match-y or perfect – it was a handmade, DIY affair and we wanted the decor to reflect that feeling. We DIY’d everything we could and hired out the best for everything else. We arranged all the flowers ourselves (but ordered wholesale from Fifty Flowers – the BEST customer service and selection, I highly recommend them), the “Let Love Grow” sign was a DIY string art labor of love, the bunting was a group effort with me cutting out, my mom sewing, some girlfriends stringing (all 500 feet!), while lounging at the beach.

I painted the cornhole boards with bride and groom birds with the help of a friend, the wooden direction signs were done by a family member, the pillows laid out on the quilts were handmade by my aunt, mom and me, and thousands of feet of ribbon were cut and tied for the chairs, escort card station and photobooth backdrop. I also painted the cake toppers over a crafty afternoon with a friend. The artwork for the CD covers was a free template from Benign Objects that I had been hanging on to for two years. The menu cards were hand painted by me, using the same bird motif as the cornhole birds, then scanned and typed on using Photoshop. Oh and my dad hand crafted us a beautiful wooden wedding box for our ceremony since he’s a talented woodworker. It was so much work, but so much fun. All the little details made the day so memorable, the decor so personal, and the process brought so many of my favorite people together to work on fun projects.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? If you’re on a budget (and who isn’t?), do what you can yourself and hire the best for what you can’t. That way you can spend more on the really great professionals you trust and not have to skimp on other things. Don’t be afraid to fire vendors if you don’t feel like it’s the right fit – sometimes when you actually start working with people, things change and you realize they may not fit your vision or be that fun to work with. We forfeited a couple of hefty deposits to do this because we knew it would be worth it to go with someone else. And you know what? Best money ever spent. Also – do whatever YOU want and forget what else is popular or expected. We wanted a small, intimate affair, so we only had 35 guests and it was perfect. My husband and I didn’t want a dance floor so we didn’t – people danced in the grass and around the bonfire and it was perfect. We didn’t have first dances, bridesmaids/groomsmen, a bouquet or garter toss. Those things aren’t our style so we didn’t feel bad about nixing them.

Wedding Music:
Processional: “Pachelbel’s Canon”
Recessional: “Ashoken Farewell”
My sister in law sang “At Last” with them during the cocktail hour but we didn’t have any first dances. We had an iPod playing our favorites for the rest of the reception and I remember taking pictures in the field across the street hearing Bob Marley’s “No Woman No Cry” play and thinking it was the most perfect moment. And later in the night we got down to Stevie Wonder while dancing by the bonfire and making s’mores.

Modern Vintage Travel Shoot

Wedding Design

While David of Modern Vintage Weddings jumped at the chance to work with expert makeup artist Gemma Sutton, we just as quickly jumped at the opportunity to share the exquisite result with you all. The pair brought on The Bijou Bride to help style this bridal-shoot-meets-wedding-inspiration, which brings Art Deco glam and travel allure to the wedding editorial world!

From the photographer, David of Modern Vintage Weddings: When I got the call from hair and make up artist Gemma Sutton with the idea of putting together a bridal inspiration photoshoot at Brookland’s Museum, near London, I jumped at the chance. Gemma Sutton’s work is sublime and the idea we came up with together was to photograph a story that was modern, but had vintage luxury elements we hoped might inspire brides to be who were considering a travel theme for their wedding.

Brookland’s Museum has a stationery Concorde, and you can get married on board! I am big fan of aeroplanes and travel a lot shooting destination weddings but never had the chance to fly in one so this was of course the next best thing. Our bride for the day, Sophie, was travelling somewhere fabulous to her honeymoon, in style. That was the idea, and The Bijou Bride, perfectly styled the look with golds and deep reds, to give a luxurious feel to the setting. I hope that Ruffled’s readers enjoy the images and the planning of their own big day.

Nostalgic Los Angeles Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

This little wedding sent over by Sarah of Hazelwood Photo makes our hearts sing with vintage joy — seriously, does it get any more stunning than this incredible bride? The bride and groom both collect vinyl records, so they not only used a DJ who spun vinyl but also used old records for their seating charts! There’s so much packed into these stunning California nuptials and some great advice from bride Victoria, so hop to it!

From the bride, Victoria: We never really came up with a solid theme to follow. Kieron just kept on saying “Don’t think about themes, think about aesthetics!” We basically tried to incorporate some of our favorite things so pretty much every detail in the wedding directly reflects something about us. The color scheme is just colors we like (ivory, gold, emeralds and metallics); the vintage dress (the first and only dress I tried on — it immediately felt right) because I love vintage clothes and most of my wardrobe is vintage; the venue is the house where I grew up and my favorite place in the world; we incorporated vinyl records because we both collect records; we used succulents because I love them and I make cactus dishes for a hobby (I made all the mini-terrarium favors with my awesome bridesmaid Aubrey); the mariachi band to pay homage to my Mexican heritage and a classic photochemical photobooth because we’ve always taken photobooth pictures since we first started dating (see our save-the-dates made with photobooth strips over the years). I could go on but I guess I’m just saying that instead of going for some kind of theme, we just allowed the stuff that we love to become the direct inspiration for how we wanted our wedding to feel. Overall, I think one of the most important details for me was to have family be a big part. That’s why we had displayed the photos of weddings in our families throughout the generations and we felt so blessed to be able to have Kieron’s grandfather officiate the ceremony (he’s been married for 65 years so that really is an inspiration).

Most memorable moment of the day? I would say it was when I was approaching Kieron for our first look. Of course Kieron had his back turned to me as I was walking towards him but I could tell that he was just as nervous and breathless as I was. It felt like everything that we had worked so hard on — all the planning, shopping, crafting and stressing — had lead up to this very moment. The shoot was next door so it was just Kieron and me (plus our wonderful photographer) and for the first time ever, that’s when I really FELT like his bride. Kieron turned around to see me and the expression was priceless. It was like nothing else in the world mattered and finally, we could just soak it up and enjoy each other.

Any advice you want to share with future brides-to-be? Be as involved as you possibly can in the planning process of your wedding. A few people told me how proud we should be of our wedding and that it had a really personal touch. We really do feel proud of our wedding day because we put so much of ourselves into it. Every detail deserves your special attention and every decision should be a thoughtful one. When in doubt, trust your instincts and follow your heart. Though it may be tough to see the forest for the trees in the planning stages, when it all comes together on your special day it will be well worth it!

Tasmanian Summer Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Newlyweds Celia and Curtis aren’t just creative and talented, they’re something far beyond — Curtis made his own wedding band, the couple grew their own flowers for the bouquets and arrangements, and the reception was DJed by none other than the couple themselves! Our thanks go out to Jonathan Wherrett for sending these lovely photos our way.

From the bride, Celia: Curtis & I grew up in the same small town in Tasmania but never met. In our early 20’s & living in Melbourne, we became close friends, often talking until the sun came up at parties but never dating. I moved to London, we exchanged emails, late night phone calls and flirtatious text messages until finally Curt got up the courage to jump on a plane and fly halfway across the world to tell me he loved me. As first dates go- moving to the other side of the world was pretty epic!

Quamby Estate wedding Australia

My mum suggested Quamby, a beautiful, 1830’s, white homestead and as soon as we saw it we fell in love. We wanted an intimate, relaxed and fun but still meaningful wedding. We had a ceremony under a 150 year old tree, a garden party, dinner & dancing, an after party and a recovery BBQ. With our amazing friends & family we made blackboards, rubber stamps, badges, bunting, grew the flowers, organised a “tour” bus for guests, played ceremony music, DJ’d at the reception & much more. My wedding ring was originally my great grandmother’s, then my mothers and now mine. It’s over 110 years old. Curt made his own silver ring from scratch.

My favourite project was the wedding bells. I love the sound of wedding bells so I decided to collect my own, one for each guest to ring at the end of the ceremony. They came from Zimbabwe, Asia, family & vintage markets. In the end there were glass bells, shop bells, temple bells, school bells, cowbells, bicycle bells, bongo drums, tambourines as well as paper cones full of rose petal confetti. The noise and colour when we walked down the aisle was pure joy! We had ‘First Look’ which I loved – we used a huge tree and crept around either side. We had both just started feeling nervous but when we saw each other – it turned to excitement. We only had one speech – my dad who is an actor and he brought the house down!

Chic St. Augustine Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Whenever you fuse your wedding day with the talents at Our Labor of Love, it’s essentially a guarantee that you’ll have one raucous, beautiful day. This is one seriously stunning bride, one classically dapper groom, and one heck of a dance party! If these smiles are an indication of all the fun St. Augustine has to offer, I might just have to book a flight soon…

From the bride, Marie: We chose St. Augustine, Florida because my family is from nearby Jacksonville. My family would spend weekends in St. Augustine. When I grew up and moved away, I began bringing friends from Atlanta and New York there and everyone always loved it. Ryan and I had great trips there together too. It seemed like a place our loved ones would enjoy for our wedding. We chose the Cathedral Basilica because it is a church I attended as a child and because it is beautiful. We chose the Casa Monica Hotel because of the Art Deco feel of its event spaces.

What style and feel did you envision for your wedding? Vintage- We started out with a 20’s Gatsby theme but ended up with elements from the 20s-60s really. We wanted our wedding to feel like a cocktail or dinner party from those eras. We particularly focused on the parties featured in the movie “Bright Young Things.”

For our guestbook and guestbook table, we had framed maps with pictures of all the trips Ryan and I have taken together. The guestbook was a vintage atlas and a nearby sign read “Sign the atlas on the place where you traveled from or the place where you think we should travel next.” The table was near both the bar and the Smilebooth so as guests got rowdier the atlas became filled with awesome messages and drawings!

pool wedding by our labor of love

We purposefully did not have wedding “colors.” We went with black and cream, and glitter(!), elements to evoke the feel I described above. We thought pop colors would be too focal and take away from the feeling of being at a great party like those in “Bright Young Things” where the focus is on the glitzy people in attendance. In the end, the colors that popped were from the guests’ cocktail attire. Black and cream/white also worked out because we wanted to incorporate our pit bull, Mama, into the wedding, and she is, guess what, black and white. There were a ton of DIY projects involved! Friends made the invitations and my second dress and I made a lot of the paper goods used throughout the wedding. Two days before the wedding my relatives stayed up until 4am assembling the favor boxes, welcome bags, and escort Coca-Cola bottles.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Make a timeline so you can get projects and bookings completed well in advance. I saved very little for the weeks before my wedding so I just got to enjoy the anticipation of being married without much stress of wedding planning. And hire a wedding planner, especially for the day of. Karen of St. Augustine Weddings and Special Events was a lifesaver.
