Vintage Romantic Wedding at the Metropolitan Building

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Lev Kuperman

Lovers of vintage glam romance, this one’s for you. Lev Kuperman captured Foster and Marc’s incredible wedding day at Long Island City’s Metropolitan Building, a long-time favorite venue for those who appreciate a bit of Old World charm. Throw in some retro inspired paper goods, a show-stopping Jenny Packham gown, and one heck of a dance party and you’ve got this memorable celebration!

From the bride, Foster: Our style was vintage and romantic. We wanted the night to feel enchanted and magical yet warm and comfortable. We steered away from the “rustic” elements such as mason jars because they tend to err on the side of “cute.” We sourced and collected all of the brass candle stick holders and medicine/apothecary flower vases to include table centerpieces and design elements throughout the space. My sister, who is an amazing graphic designer, designed the dinner menus and some of the signage (signature cocktail and welcome sign).

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Try not to let the little details become bigger than they are. Sometimes we found ourselves focusing too much on the minute details (and to be honest, no one even notices the little things). You can let these things go without sacrificing your overall vision. On the day, the outcome of some elements may not be exactly what you expected but it will all be beautiful and magical. Basically, don’t sweat the small stuff.

Glam Chicago Wedding with Art Deco Details

Vintage Weddings

Gold and black with plenty of greenery is always such a sophisticated color palette, and it matches perfectly with an Art Deco wedding theme. Martha and Ricardo exchanged their vows in the heart of Chicago, with Victoria Sprung Photography, Sweetchic Events, and Asrai Garden by their sides. The wedding day was full of darling details, from the bride’s gold sequin reception dress to the Day of the Dead figurines.

From the bride, Martha: Ricardo and I, along with our sons, Leo and Max were already a family but we wanted a beautiful celebration and reflection of our love to share our joy with everyone that is special to us. It could not have turned out better. The ceremony was beautiful and the entire night was so amazing that we were pinching ourselves at the end of the night. We told everyone the wedding was a joyous blur because that’s exactly how it felt to us, just one night of pure, unadulterated joy. We danced all night and loved it all. We just wish we could do it again… and again.

We were trying to include glamorous and vintage elements by husband and I both love while also incorporating important cultural traditions. I didn’t set out to have a color scheme but I kept gravitating to gold and black, after a while I stopped fighting it. I just wanted something that felt pulled together and beautiful. I can’t say I DIY’d a whole lot, I was more of a creative director. I did make the bridesmaid’s bouquets myself with flowers from Fiftyflowers, I’m very proud of those. I was sporting a blister on my hand that day to prove it. My mother made by veil by hand, French Chantilly lace on silk tulle, it took her hours and is totally precious to me so I guess that’s the most important DIY.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Trust your gut about vendors and be honest about your budget. If someone is not as responsive as you would like or doesn’t understand your vision, feel free to walk away. Most importantly, get a planner, especially if you have a lot of details you want to see come together in the end but don’t want to be the one making sure it’s done right. My planner was Courtney Brust from Sweetchic and she was liberating. We felt like guests at our wedding and that was invaluable. The day went by so fast and I loved it every minute. In hindsight I know we would have been upset to have precious time taken up by making sure details were taken care of properly, and we had a lot of them.

Bohemian Luxe Winter Wedding

Wedding Design

A winter wedding inspiration shoot that’s equal parts glam, bohemian, and romantic is one that I simply can’t come across enough. Amy Nicole Photography, Kelly Dellinger Events, and Anne Whitson came together for this brilliant photo shoot with warm purple-pinks, gold, and plenty of bridal style.

From the photographer, Amy Nicole Photography: I recently did this inspiration shoot with an amazing team of vendors in the area and they helped my vision come together perfectly! We wanted to create a winter inspiration shoot, but with a bohemian twist. Laura at Southern Events had the brilliant idea of braided table runners, which we thought was a beautiful touch.

We envisioned a luxurious approach to winter 2013/2014, set in a French mansion-style atmosphere. Design was largely interior-inspired, featuring some stunning pieces of ornate furniture and a long tablescape with mixed metal candlesticks of varying heights. When we found Riverwood Mansion, it was just perfect for the shoot. We had envisioned a room with a baroque-style gold mirror, and when we first visited Riverwood, the mirror above the fireplace couldn’t have been more perfect. We also planned for understated floral design with full, open blooms in jewel-tone hues that provided a beautiful contrast against a champagne satin linen and braided table runners. We decided to go for a simply elegant place setting with mix-matched silverware and metal goblets to throw in an eclectic feel amongst the luxurious table setting. The bar vignette featured Gatsby-esque drinkware and a “naked” cake topped with pomegranate seeds.

Our bride donned a beautiful Sarah Seven gown along with a delicate veil. She traded in the veil after the ceremony for a dainty gilded Twigs & Honey headpiece — the perfect mix of bohemian and luxury. The bridesmaid also wore Sarah Seven and brought a little more glitz to the table.

Roaring Romance Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Old Hollywood will never lose its allure to us. When we see shoots like this one from Julie Wilhite Photography and Stratford Events, it makes it just a bit easier to see why Hollywood romance will never go out of style. Lux + love, what else can a girl ask for?

hollywood vintage bridesmaids

From the photographer, Julie Wilhite: It all started with the location, MAX’s Underground. The venue has a chic warehouse feel full of exposed brick- very speakeasy. The ladies from Austin Bella Bridesmaid and I spent an entire afternoon choosing gowns and brainstorming color palettes. Jewel tones of sapphire, ruby, and emerald were chosen for their richness and accented with gold and mercury glass for a timeless touch. Local Austin designer, Jessica Ciarla, provided a stunning bridal gown dripping with effortless romance. Paired with jewelry and a head piece, it’s a look that brides everywhere will be swooning over. The flawless makeup and hairstyles reflected the roaring twenties perfectly, while the groom looked absolutely regal in his attire.

All of the vendors that participated in the décor of the photo shoot brought a unique element to the overall design. The flowers were a mixture of natural textures and bold, bright blooms that look lovely adorning one of a kind antique pieces. The detailed invitation suite set the tone complete with table signs and escort cards to match. The specialty linens and exquisite settings brought color and style to the dinner table. Last but not least, the glamorous photo backdrop crafted of black feathers and emerald sequins was perfect for an exquisite night of lasting memories.

Nostalgic Los Angeles Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

This little wedding sent over by Sarah of Hazelwood Photo makes our hearts sing with vintage joy — seriously, does it get any more stunning than this incredible bride? The bride and groom both collect vinyl records, so they not only used a DJ who spun vinyl but also used old records for their seating charts! There’s so much packed into these stunning California nuptials and some great advice from bride Victoria, so hop to it!

From the bride, Victoria: We never really came up with a solid theme to follow. Kieron just kept on saying “Don’t think about themes, think about aesthetics!” We basically tried to incorporate some of our favorite things so pretty much every detail in the wedding directly reflects something about us. The color scheme is just colors we like (ivory, gold, emeralds and metallics); the vintage dress (the first and only dress I tried on — it immediately felt right) because I love vintage clothes and most of my wardrobe is vintage; the venue is the house where I grew up and my favorite place in the world; we incorporated vinyl records because we both collect records; we used succulents because I love them and I make cactus dishes for a hobby (I made all the mini-terrarium favors with my awesome bridesmaid Aubrey); the mariachi band to pay homage to my Mexican heritage and a classic photochemical photobooth because we’ve always taken photobooth pictures since we first started dating (see our save-the-dates made with photobooth strips over the years). I could go on but I guess I’m just saying that instead of going for some kind of theme, we just allowed the stuff that we love to become the direct inspiration for how we wanted our wedding to feel. Overall, I think one of the most important details for me was to have family be a big part. That’s why we had displayed the photos of weddings in our families throughout the generations and we felt so blessed to be able to have Kieron’s grandfather officiate the ceremony (he’s been married for 65 years so that really is an inspiration).

Most memorable moment of the day? I would say it was when I was approaching Kieron for our first look. Of course Kieron had his back turned to me as I was walking towards him but I could tell that he was just as nervous and breathless as I was. It felt like everything that we had worked so hard on — all the planning, shopping, crafting and stressing — had lead up to this very moment. The shoot was next door so it was just Kieron and me (plus our wonderful photographer) and for the first time ever, that’s when I really FELT like his bride. Kieron turned around to see me and the expression was priceless. It was like nothing else in the world mattered and finally, we could just soak it up and enjoy each other.

Any advice you want to share with future brides-to-be? Be as involved as you possibly can in the planning process of your wedding. A few people told me how proud we should be of our wedding and that it had a really personal touch. We really do feel proud of our wedding day because we put so much of ourselves into it. Every detail deserves your special attention and every decision should be a thoughtful one. When in doubt, trust your instincts and follow your heart. Though it may be tough to see the forest for the trees in the planning stages, when it all comes together on your special day it will be well worth it!

Modern Ames Hotel Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

This Boston wedding shot by Rebecca Hansen Weddings is the perfect expression of intimate uptown chic. Shell and Ashley married with only their closest friends and family nearby in the hotel suite, then traveled downstairs for a gourmet wedding reception catered by Woodward at Ames Hotel. We love that they combined their last names into a new one for both. Also…we may or may not still be swooning over Shell’s vintage-inspired Vera Wang gown!

modern ames hotel wedding from rebecca hansen

From the photographer, Rebecca: Ashley and Shell are two of the happiest people I’ve ever seen get married. Ever. It was amazing to be part of their wedding day. They were married in a very intimate ceremony at the Ames Hotel in Boston. The ceremony was held in the apartment suite of the hotel where they were (literally) surrounded by their friends and family. The room had these huge windows that overlooked the city, it was a beautiful backdrop to the ceremony. Cocktail hour and dinner were held in the Ames’ restaurant the Woodward. Guests were served family style. The day overall had a very relaxed, intimate feeling. The walls of the restaurant are so neat because they’re filled with tons of oddities and interesting trinkets the hotel has collected, like a JFK bust. One thing that Ashley and Shell did that I thought was SO cool, is that they both changed their last name, and morphed both of their old last names into one new one.

Old Hollywood Glamour Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

This vintage glam wedding captured by Jennifer Sosa for Daniel Krieger is a phenomenal practice in Old Hollywood chic. Nearly all the decor was sourced by the bride, who co-owns the antique shop Beekman Lane in New Jersey. Bride Lori and her new husband Hans incorporated aspects of the 1920s for a warmly unforgettable wedding day.

1920s wedding Hollywood Glam

From the bride, Lori: Hans and I both met while working in the antiques industry in Manhattan. We wanted to combine our love for antiques and bygone eras and our love for each other. We knew we wanted to incorporate actual antiques in our day, and a venue that was authentic and warm. We decided upon the 1920s because the decade had an over-the-top elegance and romance.

The moment you walk into the theatre you are transported to another time. The theatre has such rich golds and maroons, that we wanted to keep the colors of the flowers and tables in a creamy off-white mixed with golds and metallics. We wanted the silverware to be gold, and we chose an amber waterglass to warm the table. All the antique brass/silver and copper vessels for the centerpieces were sourced by me and my business partner at my interior decoration studio and antiques shop, Beekman Lane.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? My advice would be to make sure you take your time to chose the right vendors for you and your style. I took a long time to find the right caterer because good food was important to us, as well as presentation. Jonathan at David Ellis understood our vision and used his talent to execute a flawless menu and presentation- we are still still receiving compliments constantly on the food and the talent of our band, Carte Blanche. We had gone through many vendors who tried to persuade us to do what they wanted rather than listening to what we were looking for. All of the vendors we chose in the end were great about listening to what we wanted and our vision and used their talent and knowledge to execute what we were looking for, which resulted in the wedding of our dreams.

1930s Art Deco Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Get ready, because this wedding from Love Me Do Photography is some serious Art Deco glam awesomeness. This is a great example of how you can take a classic color scheme – crisp black and white – and use it in a modern way. Brittany and Pat added a tiny touch of sparkly throughout their wedding day, and the mix of glam and rock ‘n roll is a picture perfect recipe. We’re going gaga for Brittany’s Lazaro gown!

1930s art deco wedding from love me do photography

From the bride: We chose 24 Fifth because of its Art Deco feel and sunken dance floor. This space used to be the ballroom for the old 5th Avenue Hotel which was built in the 1920s. The building is now apartments but they’ve kept the ballroom. I really wanted our guests to feel like they were in an old supper club which technically, they were! We then chose the church because of it’s location and history as well. It’s the oldest Catholic church edifice in Manhattan.

I really loved getting all the photos of our grandparents together and hunting down these antique frames to put them in. None of them are with us anymore so it was a way of having them there. In the same respect, my bouquet was filled with old pins from my mother’s side. I had hat pins from my grandmother as well as my grandfather’s TWA pins. He was an airline mechanic for them for 30 years.

Everyone knows the actually GETTING MARRIED part is pretty incredible but I have some runner-ups. Walking into the venue and seeing what I had been working so hard on for the past year come to fruition was overwhelming. I cried very happy tears. Also, one of the best parts of a wedding is having all your favorite people in one room. We had friends and family from all over the world (including Australia!) fly in for us. It wouldn’t have been the same without each and every one of them there.

Anything else you’d like to add? I can’t say enough good things about Etsy. I had only recently started buying from there before planning the wedding and it was mostly just for vintage clothing. It then became a part of my wedding planning obsession. Everything from the invitations, to bridesmaid presents to my after party dress was bought through Etsy! I may or may not have made over 40 purchases through them. The customer service you get through the sellers is better than you’d get through any brick and mortar retailer.

Elegant Alder Manor Wedding

Vintage Weddings

A bride who wants a “Great Gatsby meets Great Expectations” vibe to her wedding? Say no more. Photographer Brookelyn traveled up to Yonkers to spend the day in one of our all-time favorite venues, Alder Manor, and photograph Carolyn and Tom’s amazing day.

Yonkers Alder Manor elegant wedding

From the bride, Carolyn: We wanted a style and feel that was fitting for the venue. The Alder Manor is grand and ornate but after so many years, it’s also perfectly imperfect, with crumbling statues, creeping ivy, and peeling wallpaper. So we went with a vintage-inspired, romantic feel that recalled the glamor of the Manor’s heyday without being too polished. We tried to capture a “Great Gatsby meets Great Expectations” feel.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? With all the endless inspiration out there on blogs, shows, mags, etc., it’s easy to get overwhelmed and second guess everything you choose. If that happens, just go with your gut. Ask yourself what was the first centerpiece/veil/bridesmaid dress, etc. that you truly fell in love with, and stick with it. You won’t regret it!

Andre and I spent a couple of months searching for a unique Utah destination, and our search eventually led us to Sundance Resort. We wanted our wedding to feel like a destination wedding, and just the words “resort wedding in Utah” evoke a feeling that extends beyond just a day. Sundance offered a breathtakingly spectacular setting. Our guests were so impressed in every respect and we will now have beautiful memories to last us a lifetime.

The inspiration for the decor and design of our wedding was “rustic glam.” We booked both our rehearsal dinner and wedding at the Redford Conference Center, an environmentally friendly building that appealed to Andre, who is studying environmental law. The space naturally provided a rustic feel, which I chose not to focus on so much as to enhance. We chose to play up an Old Hollywood glam feeling reminiscent of the 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s eras with the incorporation of ostrich feathers, lace, and pearls. More than aesthetics, however, we knew we wanted a wedding that was uniquely “us,” so we set out to incorporate meaning into every detail so nothing was included unless it spoke to our lives, families, friends, and love.

City Chic Washington D.C Wedding

Today we’re all about Washington DC, as you can see! This totally glam, chic DC wedding has me drooling over their black and white affair at the drop dead gorgeous DAR Building. It’s the perfect setting for a ballroom wedding with lots of amazing architectural details both indoors and out. Much to our surprise, this wedding was completely DIY! The champagne satin taffeta pomanders were handmade by Michelle’s mother & her crafty friends, and her father (a retired industrial arts teacher) made the table numbers using wrought iron numbers she bought at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl flea market. We spy a few chandeliers for sale, tapered candles and lots of vintage glitzy items. There are also gorgeous gowns for sale, but can we talk about the dapper groom below for a quick sec? So so SO in love with his 50s glam look – even his stephanotis boutonniere is classic 1950s!

Peacocks, Art Deco, and some serious glam action — need I say more? Captured by our very own Blue Label member Katherine O’Brien, this wedding rocks the vintage glam aesthetic to the core, and just look at that wedding cake! There are loads more photos to be seen, and this is one gallery you won’t want to miss.

From the bride, Allison: I knew from the beginning that I wanted the wedding to be a different and glamorous event, and for the guests to have a great time. I am totally in love with the 1930’s and 40’s culture-movies, clothes, hair, the elegance of the Art Deco era. Since this was our very own big day, we wanted to try to recapture the feel of a fete of years past. Since the vintage trend seems very haute right now, I was able to get tons of inspiration from this and other wedding blogs which became my weekend and after work obsession.

vintage art deco texas weddingvintage art deco texas wedding

We chose Austin, Texas as our location as Matt has some family there, and since all my family would be coming from out-of-state I figured Austin would be a nice place to visit for everyone. At a pool party one day, a friend mentioned that we should check out this place that was part of the Austin Museum of Art called Laguna Gloria. It was built in the early 1900’s and overlooks Lake Austin-a very old world feel. We had our ceremony and reception out on the lawns surrounding the villa.

Colors were inspired by simple elegance of black and white, with pops of peacock inspired colors-teal & copper. My mother and I did the programs as a DIY project. Since it was a Jewish wedding, and Matt’s side of the family is not Jewish, we used it to help describe some of the traditions and steps of the ceremony that were occuring. I also found a poem that my Father had written for me for my Bat Mitzvah over 16 years ago and put that on the last page for the program.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Have a clear vision of what type of feeling you want people to walk away with and keep that in mind during planning. Don’t try to do everything yourself — get help where you can. Try to have everything completely done the week before the wedding and delegate out day of activities so that you can relax and enjoy the time with your family and friends, and future husband. Take that time to reflect on this life changing experience that is happening, and revel in the love and good energy everyone is sending to you. The actual event will go by so quickly. Enjoy every minute of it!

Vintage Glam Parisian Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

When this wedding from Paris wedding photographers Anthony and Audrey Brock landed in our inbox, we knew we had found the ultimate in luxe vintage glam. Lauren and Steven, an Australian couple, chose France for an intimate ceremony by the Seine and a reception in the Ritz Hotel of Paris. We love those individual champagne bottles for toasts! Don’t miss all photos of this vintage affair in the gallery.

paris vintage glam wedding

From the bride, Lauren: The overall theme was “One Night In Paris” and we were going for effortless, vintage glamour. We essentially wanted to create an intimate ceremony for the nuptials followed by the ultimate dinner party event for ourselves and our guests. Plus it was also my 30th birthday on our wedding day so we really wanted to celebrate across the board. We chose Paris as the backdrop because not only is it the perfect city to tie the knot but we wanted to take our family and friends on an international adventure they would never forget.

The one thing you cant see in the photographs is that each venue was a surprise to our guests. They were given a telegram the night before the wedding with simple information like time and location to meet and the entire day was one big unfolding surprise for them which they loved.

The inspiration was “Paris Glamour” and we asked guests to dress accordingly. It was very classic black and white event with a splash of red discreetly thrown in here and there to add contrast. The dinner event was all about creating a golden glow with the backdrop of the sun setting over Paris and stunning ambience lighting once night hit using soft candlelight.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Every wedding, big or small, is a huge project for every bride so don’t forget when you’re feeling overwhelmed, it’s a completely natural emotion. Even with me having a strong background in producing events and being used to taking intense amounts of pressure, I still felt a lot of stress in the lead-up because a wedding is so personal. My best advice is to breathe in and breathe out (then repeat over and over again, ha!) and tackle each task one step at a time. Also do not be afraid to ask your bridal party for help, advice and support. My ladies in waiting were an absolutely amazing support unit for me throughout the 12-month project. I could not have done it without them!

Vintage Alabama Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

We’ve seen quite a few brides in our days, but this bride is seriously as cute as they come. Her hair? Utter perfection. Her makeup? Clean and understated. And that dress? It has to be the epitome of simple, vintage sophistication. As soon as we saw this wedding on 1313 Photography‘s blog, we just had to snatch it up to share with all of our dear readers.

vintage alabama wedding

From the bride, Charlie: As a bride, I first began wedding planning with the knowledge my mother has always instilled: to keep things classic yet simple and there will always be elegance! Brian and I knew we wanted a small, intimate ceremony and reception, with our dearest friends and closest loved ones. We strived to keep Mobile, its southern charm and southern influences a part of our wedding.

To celebrate the city where we met and fell in love, we designed our day around Mobile, Alabama and the city’s charm and Southern sensibility. Southern influence was included throughout the wedding; from the the invitations and wedding cake to the menu and local band.

vintage alabama wedding

It was very important that in the future I wanted to look at our photos and our wedding not look dated or trendy. I didn’t want to be able to be placed in a decade, I wanted it to be timeless. No official theme was selected and no colors. I wanted everything to flow together, for nothing to look out of place. The Ezell House was the site of both the wedding ceremony and reception. It has both French and Spanish architectural influences with coordinating décor. It was important to keep floral aspects simple, to make since in the house.

vintage alabama weddingvintage alabama wedding

vintage alabama wedding

Wrought iron detail is seen throughout Mobile and is a highlight of the fence, gates and courtyard of the house. We used black metal lanterns (that we found one by one) to hang from the porch and place in the Carriage House (bar). We used antique silver pitchers and serving pieces from family and friends to display candles, the bouquets (centerpieces) and programs. A handmade basket, a gift from bridesmaids mother held the flower petals for our exit. I also made handmade cards for my bridesmaids, asking them in a poem, to be a part of our wedding. They said, YES!

vintage alabama weddingvintage alabama wedding

vintage alabama wedding

We incorporated a hand ceremony into our wedding ceremony. We also had our close friends, a young family with two young children present our rings to us foregoing the traditional ring bearer. We felt it was more symbolic to have a family who we respect and has happiness, health, joy, birth and prosperity – all things we as newlyweds want and strive for in our future.

Brunch Courthouse Wedding in NYC

Elopements

Anybody planning a wedding knows that the purpose of the day (marrying your love) can easily get lost in the fuss of flowers, guests lists and red tape. However, a lovely wedding isn’t solely based on all the details. Instead, it’s found in the exchange of one’s vow for another to honor, love, and cherish. Today’s elopement has the best of both worlds: a simple union of two people in love and a little brunch reception with sweet design details. Big thanks to Jennifer Sosa for the fantastic photography!

1940’s Vintage Glam Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

One part glamour and one part rock and roll, this adorable couple worked their style for their wedding portraits with photographer Gabe Aceves. Her hair and that amazing veil are so perfect for the overall look of the wedding that when combined with that dress and fur stole, are a total vintage home run!

vintage glam wedding

From the glamorous bride. Really I had an image in my mind of what I wanted my wedding to look like (which can be dangerous and usually leads to disappointment, lol). The way it all came together, though, was effortless. It all just fit.

vintage glam wedding

vintage glam wedding

We wanted something fairly small, informal, and fun! We really wanted our wedding to be a big party, which is exactly what it ended up being. We have a love for tattoos, rock music, and the glamour of the 1940’s and it all came together to look exactly how I saw it in my head, if not better!

Glamorous 1930s Art Deco Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Art-Deco weddings are inherently glamorous, but this wedding from Brian of Callaway Gable and Alexandra of Sterling Engagements takes glamour to a whole new level. The bride and her architect fiance themed their wedding day around travel and the 1930’s and the outcome is nothing short of stunning.
eco-friendly wedding

From the bride, Carrie: We love anything vintage from our own house to furniture to architecture. Michael is a LA history buff and enjoys learning about historical architecture of LA’s old beautiful buildings and Carrie also has an appreciation for such LA gems. Because of our love of historic buildings we knew we wanted to have our wedding at a historic place- Union Train Station and specifically the Fred Harvey Room Restaurant, was the perfect location for us. The architecture is gorgeous and because it is a symbol of travel, it suited us perfectly since we also love to travel. We have been to Ecuador, Mexico, many countries of Europe and backpacking throughout California.

eco-friendly wedding

My mother helped with many of the printed materials; she and her boyfriend made the “vintage punch train ticket” save the dates, art deco invitations, art deco menu cards and programs. We chose wedding attire that was close to the 30’s – 40’s. We had our guests sign vintage postcards instead of a guest book which were stored in an old cigar box and vintage suitcase. The escort cards, which were tickets to tables which were named for the countries that we had traveled to together and they were displayed in vintage suitcases that we actually have as decor in our house

We wanted to have international stations- Mediterranean, Asian, and Latin American cuisine- to go along with our travel theme. Also, we had time era signature drinks- Ramos Fizz and Basil Gin Gimlets during our happy hour. Our toasting glasses were my Nana’s. They are champagne glasses from the 1920’s.

From Alexandra of Sterling Engagements: I worked very closely with not only Carrie but also her mother Linda and they both were so detailed with every aspect of the day, there was not one element that was forgotten, every detail was covered and created extra special just for Carrie and Michael. It was so heartwarming to be a part of and execute on their behalf.

We had a blast at our wedding- dinner was fabulous and we wanted to make sure our guests had food that we enjoy to eat. While dinner was served guests listened to old classics such as Frank Sinatra and Louis Armstrong. We loved the backdrop of Union Station for our pictures as a we wanted our pics to look vintage. Our photographers did an awesome job styling our pictures and choosing the best shots. Our pictures and our day was amazing – romantic and glamorous.

Jinni and Derek’s wedding is the definition of vintage glam. You may remember them from this aviator engagement session and vintage beach engagement session From the fonts they used in the stationery and the bridal party’s attire, to Jinni’s chic birdcage veil and classic red lip. Sarah E. Evans Photography was on hand to capture all the stylish details.

More from the bride, Jinni:

We wanted to do something different and unique, so we decided do make it an old fashioned wedding. We were hoping to take everyone back in time to experience a period when everything had a simple elegance.

Vintage Hawaiian Wedding, Part IV

This wedding is dreamy, beachy and vintage glam altogether. What’s not to love about it? Big thanks to the talented ladies over at Lollipop Events and Designs for sharing this wedding with us and to Christie Pham Photography for the beautiful photos! Feather bouquet by The Diamond Willow and gorgeous flowers by Dellables florist in Maui.

Instead of a traditional cake table we placed dainty cupcakes onto vintage dishes and filled drawers with brightly colored taffy and clusters of flowers. Behind the dessert table hung a perfectly placed sleepy tree, which served to hang candle lighting from for a romantic effect.

Vintage Hawaiian Wedding, Part I

I diiiiieeeed when the crazy talented ladies over at Lollilop Events and Designs sent over this amazing vintage inspired Hawaiian wedding they designed for their clients a few months ago. I love every single wedding they create, and was over the moon when this one landed in my inbox! The couple got married in Maui, and asked them to incorporate elements of peacocks into their special day. Photos by Christie Pham Photography.

Vanessa from Lollilop Events and Designs says:
Instead of going the traditional jewel tone route, we wanted to soften the palette and use light pastels and bleached peacock feathers for a more subdued underlying effect rather than an obvious peacock theme. The only obvious display of peacocks was visible on the monogram of the invitations and the custom printed canvas gift bags.

For the ceremony site we wanted to maintain the simplicity of the sea filled backdrop and the rustic dried out palm frond pergola. We hung clusters of tight roses dripping with unexpected strands of pearls. A crystal chandelier majestically glittered against the backdrop of the expansive ocean and setting sun. Vintage frames were propped against the rustic archway and covered with moss and flowers as an inviting entrance to the alter under which they said “I Do!” in the romantic setting of tropical perfection.

The brides’ childhood friend was kind enough to write a poem for the couple’s special day. We were so inspired by the time and love put into the poem, we asked her to send us the original handwritten copy. We then made beautiful copies onto our custom design bridal letterhead and passed out to guests in lieu of traditional programs.

15 Spectacular Wedding Dresses for Under $500

Design Inspiration

Photos by:

Last year I made a list of 10 vintage inspired wedding dresses for under $500 and I couldn’t help but look around to see what I could find this year, and surprise – the post is humongous!

“Prioritize” seems to be the it verb for weddings on a small budget lately, and for some brides, dresses may not be on the top of their list. Or maybe it is, but you just can’t justify dropping 8k on a dress you will wear for a few hours. More and more engaged couples are becoming more conscious about their wedding spending, and down to earth as far as what really matters to them. Some may want to get that wedding photographer whose work they swoon over, while others prefer having a seated dinner and an open bar all night. Whatever the case may be, I started compiling a list of 10 wedding dresses for under $500 but I found a few extra that caught my eye so I decided to extend it to 15.

There is a wedding dress for virtually any bride…

Glamorous Bridal Headbands

These headbands are so Hollywood glam and beautiful, it’s hard to take your eyes off of them! Feathers, glitz and beads make them the perfect adornment for the va-va-voom bride, wouldn’t you say? The gold one in particular has won me over with pearls, sequins, crystals and beads all worked into a delicate piece! These beauties are the lovely work of Sheena Holland.

This week’s wedding feature is the beautiful Art Deco inspired affair from Angela’s and Mike’s wedding submitted by Claire Barrett from Claire Barrett Photography. I absolutely love the couple’s style and the handmade touches throughout the decor. Thanks for sharing with us, Claire!

Her stunning Jenny Packham gown looked amazing on her, and her vintage inspired updo went perfectly with her gown and veil. I love how unique this updo is.

The couple displayed each of their mothers’ wedding ensembles at the front entry, with a picture of the wedding day included, how adorable!

For their wedding party gifts, the groomsmen got pocketwatches while the bride found vintage jewelry and added feathers to it for her bridesmaids. The result is perfectly vintage glam!
