Bejeweled Wedding Inspiration with a Black and White Gown

Wedding Design

Diamonds may be a girl’s best friend, but let’s be honest, we’ll take any kind of jewel. Emeralds, sapphires and rubies, oh my! Today’s styled shoot is overflowing with deep-colored gems. The black and white dress is the picture-perfect contrast to the colorful bouquet from Southern Blossoms Floral and the mismatched tablescape pieces from Swoon Vintage Rental Co.. With soaring black tapers and a color-blocked cake almost too pretty to eat, Alyssa Ence Photography captured that dreamy desert vibe in a way that set our hearts on fire.

From the photographer, Alyssa Ence Photography: This black and white dress gave us all the inspiration for this stylized shoot! We decided to go with a be jeweled theme and the location couldn’t have been more perfect for the shoot. The black dress with the stunning black tux kept everything classy and sophisticated and popped against the hollowed wash. You will also LOVE the moody light given to us by the candle light which has us screaming ROMANCE. I hope you love this shoot as much as I do.

When delicious wedding cakes are the star of a styled shoot like this one, we have to share it, hands down. Gideon Photography was present to snap pictures of the unique concept that Forevermore Events crafted together. With the floral design by Bloomers Flowers & Decor paired with a 150 year old venue, we knew we were in for a treat. Get ready to pin ladies, this is a fun one!

wedding signage - photo by Gideon Photography http://ruffledblog.com/artist-chalkboard-inspired-wedding

From the event designer, Forevermore Events: Chalkboards and art have become a big part of weddings over the years. This shoot fully embraces all of the artistic possibilities of having a chalkboard wedding. Set in an 150 year old brick building, one instantly is brought to the feel of a fun and artistic wedding. With a table setup on a chalkboard full of artistic hand drawn elements such as table settings, and a table runner of both living and hand drawn flowers. The fresh floral and hand drawn floral perfectly mesh together to give the perfect fusion of real and surreal. The cake made with a chalkboard finish sits atop a butcher paper backdrop with with more hand drawn elements. The ingredients of the cake are artistically drawn on the backdrop as it drops to the floor over the table. This was such an enjoyable shoot that I hope will inspire brides to go beyond the typical chalkboard sign and take their artistic vision to the next level!

Elegant African-Inspired Mountain Wedding

Elegant Weddings

There’s something so beautiful about each wedding set against a mountain backdrop. Utah native Tyler Rye Photography captured Raynesha and Dominic’s beautiful day, and he documented all of the impressive decor by Forevermore Events and beautiful moments, even when the rain started pouring. With a strong desire to incorporate their African heritage throughout their wedding, bloomers flower & decor took cues from Raynesha and Dominic to use South Africa’s national flower and the latest hot bloom, king protea, in their arrangements. We could go on all day about this beautiful wedding but the pictures speak better for themselves.

elegant Utah weddings - photo by Tyler Rye Photography http://ruffledblog.com/elegant-african-inspired-mountain-wedding

From the bride, Raynesha: I wanted to be on top of world when I said forever. I wanted to capture the love and the way my husband looked at me in total admiration. I always wanted to get married in the mountains or somewhere outdoors because there is something so magical about nature. I envisioned a little bit of everything. I wanted touches of rich colors and gold to give a regal feel. I wanted to bring a small touch of African symbolism to celebrate our heritage. Our colors were blush, wine, and gold. Our theme was rustic elegance with a touch of African inspiration. My husband got crafty and decorated the broom we jumped over to commemorate an African-American tradition. He used burlap fabric from Michael’s which was wrapped at various stages up the handle with burgundy and gold ribbons from Ace Hardware using a hot glue gun and gold craft wire. Instead of pouring sand for unity, we used dirt from our childhood homes to join together and we plan on using that dirt to plant a tree at our first home.

An Engagement Session in the Bride’s Grandmother’s Dress

Engagement Sessions

For their engagement session, that was captured by Alixann Loosle Photography, the bride and groom-to-be–Kaleigh and Christopher–pulled out some of their finest closet picks and frolicked in beautiful Salt Lake City weather and scenery. The sweetest fixture in their entire engagement shoot (besides those lovely cherry blossoms, of course) is the addition of the bride’s second outfit change, which was a dress that belonged to her grandmother. Let’s take a look:

engagement session ideas photo by Alixann Loosle Photography http://ruffledblog.com/an-engagement-session-in-the-brides-grandmothers-dress

From the photographer, Alixann Loosle Photography: I’d love to share some lovely, classically beautiful, cherry blossom engagement photos that I shot. I love that the second dress that the bride-to-be wore was her grandma’s. She used to play dress-up with it when she was young!

Romantic Forest Wedding

Romantic Weddings

There are few things that make me happier than an enchanted wedding in the forest. Today’s couple held their ceremony indoors and then made their way to a tree-filled reception with chandeliers, a variet of cakes, and the most beautiful color palette of purples, mauve, and greens. Thank you to Jessica Janae Photography, Rachael Ellen Events, and Soil and Stem for your work here!

Romantic Forest Wedding - photo by Jessica Janae Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-forest-wedding

From the event designer, Rachael of Rachael Ellen Events: This wedding was the perfect mix of feminine romance and fun. The dinner was set in a romantic forest setting up Milcreek canyon in Salt Lake City, Utah. The guests enjoyed live music and season dinner while the bridal party toasted the high school sweetheart couple. The bride wore a blush gown complemented by shades of mauve, lavender and purple. Chandeliers hung from the trees to give the forest a magical romantic feel. This wedding is a wonderful example of an intimate outdoor gathering focused on a garden-forest inspired feel.

Rugged Desert Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

When it comes to great desert wedding inspiration, we can always rely on Tyler Rye Photography to deliver. For today’s shoot, he brought along Middle Aisle Weddings and Wild Blooms to create a rugged scene filled with a rustic wooden table, crystals, taxidermy, and fresh flowers displayed around custom glass geo boxes.

rugged desert wedding inspiration - photo by Tyler Rye Photography http://ruffledblog.com/rugged-desert-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Tyler Rye Photography: We were hoping to get away from the rustic look that happens so much in southern Utah, the burlap and mason jars look. But at the same time we wanted the shoot to reflect the rugged desert feel that draws people to the desert of Utah! I found inspiration from my dad as odd as that might seem. He is a hunter and loves all things outdoors. We incorporated taxidermy and a rough table to reflect the rough side of the desert and then brought in fresh flowers and custom glass boxes to show the natural beauty of craftsmanship found here in Utah.

Salt Lake City Hardware Company Wedding

Romantic Weddings

I never tire of seeing grooms with great style, and with his checkered blue shirt and on-trend undercut ‘do, he definitely fits the bill. Green Apple Photography and Flower Afternoon + Decor captured Taylor and Hayden’s vision perfectly, utilizing an industrial reception space and bringing in lush floral design complete with one of our favorite accents, berries!

Salt Lake City hardware company wedding - photo by Green Apple Photography http://ruffledblog.com/salt-lake-city-hardware-company-wedding

From the photographer, Lindsey of Green Apple Photography: The ceremony was at the Logan, Utah LDS Temple, and the reception was in an old hardware building, turned offices, in Salt Lake City. I loved Hayden’s blue checked shirt and blue suit, and Taylor’s beautiful flowers with berries. Val from Flower Afternoon did all the decor and flowers, and brought in summer berries in all the floral arrangements. It was a sweet wedding, with lots of simple details (honey pots for all the guests!)

Minimalist Sand Dunes Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

A minimalist wedding scene in a desert setting is just what the doctor ordered today, and we’re happy to provide the goods from D’Arcy Benincosa Photography and Flower Afternoon. This incredible shoot was done all on film, adding a certain air of mystique and grace. This one’s guaranteed to be a classic for years!

minimalist sand dunes wedding inspiration - photo by D'Arcy Benincosa Photography http://ruffledblog.com/minimalist-sand-dunes-wedding-inspiration

From the florist, Flower Afternoon: Utah’s landscapes are so diverse! We decided to venture out into the Little Sahara sand dunes for some desert tropic inspiration. The lines of all of the dunes are my favorite part; they give a feeling of movement. The wind was really blowing that day, which made for some really stunning shots. Many people think, “Oh no! Not wind!,” but it really added to the overall mood and made that veil and dress blow so beautifully.

wedding dress back - photo by D'Arcy Benincosa Photography http://ruffledblog.com/minimalist-sand-dunes-wedding-inspiration

The ceremony set-up is a modern, low to the ground design involving different varieties of tropical leafs that fan out in a half circle to surround the bride and groom. I love this approach to modern day ceremonies rather than a traditional arch. Elizabeth Dye sent us an elegant gown with a bohemian/hippie flare. We paired this dress with a natural cut Herkimer diamond ring, necklace and cuff designed specially for the shoot by The Land Of Salt. The tabletop is designed with different natural elements and neutral tones. The wooden bud vases were made by Missouri-based artist Collin Garrity, who makes all of his pieces one at a time and no two are alike. These vases add an artisan-like quality to the space. The flowers give a gentle contrast in different shades of yellow and green against the rest of the table while keeping the entire look cohesive. Pippa Cakery designed a creamy, textured cake with a slate-colored icing. I chose to continue the desert tropic theme with succulents and monstera leaves.

From the photographer, D’Arcy Benincosa: One of the reasons I live in Utah is because of it’s diversity of landscape. From blue lakes, green parks, red rocks, salt flats, and these amazing sand dunes–it’s no wonder that Utah is one of the most highly rated Wedding and Destination Wedding locations. The soft sun on a summer day makes it perfect for capturing film photography. I loved the vastness of this shoot, with a concentration on a neutral and elegant theme, I can see brides with a taste for flair and passion going after a vast landscape to make their nuptials memorable and different.

Deer Valley Resort Wedding with a Burgundy Gown

Romantic Weddings

With burgundy being the color of choice, this wedding was both bold and beautiful. Jessica and Tim had their romantic wedding in the beautiful valleys of Utah and the event was so effortlessly captured by Pepper Nix Photography, with styling by A Divine-Occasion.

Deer Valley Resort wedding with a burgundy gown - photo by Pepper Nix Photography http://ruffledblog.com/deer-valley-resort-wedding-with-a-burgundy-gown

From the bride, Jessica: I never wanted to look like a “bride” with the big white dress – it’s just not me. Instead I wanted to go for a look that could have walked down the red carpet with the best of them. I looked at dress after dress and didn’t even want to try them on until my bridal consultant asked if I thought about wearing color? After that everything just fell into place. She pulled out three dress: red, blue, and green. I tried on the red and didn’t want to take it off. It was the first and last dress I tried on. The rest was easy. The dress was such a statement that it needed next to nothing in terms of accessories. The color was enough!

The wedding weekend was designed to celebrate Park City and its amazing landscape. Mountain Elegance might be the best way to describe our theme. We had this big plan to get married outside on the side of the mountain and let the landscape be our backdrop but then it rained. This wasn’t a few showers here and there, this was inches of rain from dawn until dust. We quickly moved to plan B and set the ceremony inside in a perfect loft space over the reception. Our florist did an amazing job bringing the outside in by using aspen, moss, local flowers, natural wood benches and much more to our intimate space. The aisle was lit with oversized lanterns and small flower arrangements that set the perfect tone and complimented the soft rain on the windows.

Silver Lake Ski Lodge at Deer Valley was transformed (by Tulips and Thyme) into a country chic dining area with dark wooden farm tables and crisscross chairs. Reclaimed wooden chandeliers were suspended at various heights and were dressed with a multitude of candles and greenery which helped to light the room and create a soft romantic environment. The tables were decorated in shades of ivory and taupe with stunning burnt gold glass chargers, white dinner china accented with soft purple linen napkins. Each table was uniquely designed with the colors of fall – deep scarlet, reds, oranges and gold – all representing flowers and foliage celebrating the season. Included in the variety of floral arrangements were locally harvested flowers as well as garden roses, ranunculus, scabiosa pods, privet berries, cabbages and small succulents in earthen pots. Tulips and Thyme designed amazing flowers to extend over the length of the tables and cascade down the side. It was just beautiful.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Push for what you and your future husband want in your wedding. Opinions are always welcome but stick to your guns and make it happen. It’s worth it! I’m glad we had a small wedding and created that intimate feeling where everyone feels very much a part of every moment. I’m thrilled that our families and friends were willing to travel to Park City, UT and put up with that stress for the festivities. I’m also glad that Tim and I came in one day early and left one day later to relax just the two of us.

Handcrafted Wedding at Trolley Square

Romantic Weddings

With a gold and blush color palette and a creative bride, a warehouse wedding never looked so good! Captured by Pepper Nix Photography, this event focuses on the gorgeous venue keeping all the decor soft and sweet. We adore the gold accent detailing on the wedding cake!

handcrafted wedding at Trolley Square - photo by Pepper Nix Photography http://ruffledblog.com/handcrafted-wedding-at-trolley-square

From the bride, Montana: When I started planning my wedding I knew I wanted it to have a unique and romantic feel. I didn’t want to use a venue that had been used before because I wanted a once-in-a-lifetime wedding. After countless hours of trying to find the perfect location for my wedding, my mom and I were driving through Salt Lake City and I turned to her and said … “What about Trolley Square?” Both of us had never heard of a wedding taken place at Trolley Square so we did not know if that could even be a possibility, so we had to try. We immediately went into the office at Trolley Square and proposed our crazy idea… The management looked at us a little hesitant and said, “no one has ever attempted it but you could rent out one of the old building spaces… but you will have to do everything, from the lighting to the draping… that would be all up to you.” We were elated, we knew we could take a space and turn it into our dream venue… months and months went into planning how we were going to make this space work, and on the day of the wedding it was perfect, just how I had always dreamed! Our décor consisted long wood farm tables, hundreds upon hundreds of gold votives, beautiful flowers and bistro lights…

Inspiration for the color palette and design: My color palette was gold, ivory, and light pink – I wanted to keep it very simple and romantic. The whole venue was a DIY – one of my favorite projects was the way the C and the M were hung in old door frames… it took us a while to figure out how we were going to make those letters float in that space, we ended up creating a frame, stretching burlap across it and attaching the letters… this was probably my favorite part of décor of the wedding… I think it went along with the venue and space so well.

Handmade Utah Wedding at a Pink Cottage

Vintage Weddings

A short lace wedding dress sewn by your mother and marrying your beau outside a little pink cottage — does it get better than this? Brooke Schultz Photography, Charming Details, and Flower Afternoon put together some of their best work to bring us Kendra and Jeff’s wedding day, which is full of sweet little details but still intimate enough to feel like a heartfelt get-together among friends.

From the photographer, Brooke Schultz Photography: Kendra and Jeff wanted their wedding day to be completely relaxed, without stress so they could drink in every moment. So, they opted to have the reception the day before! They filled their wedding with sweet, handmade details, like Kendra’s wedding dress sewn by her mother, the ‘love you always’ patch added by Kendra on the back of Jeff’s tie, and the guestbook hand painted by the bride’s sister.

Kendra + Jeff found the perfect venue in This is The Place’s Brigham house, an adorable pink cottage with a gazebo fit for dancing. Vintage with a modern twist, Emmily with Charming Details and Val with Flower Afternoon created an old door backdrop prettied up by a floral garland. Guests took photos for the guest book in front of it and it did double duty for some beautiful bride and groom portraits as well. Despite the fact that it rained cats and dogs both days of their wedding celebration, they weren’t bothered and let themselves truly enjoy their wedding.

Incredible Handcrafted Wedding in Salt Lake City

DIY Weddings

Today’s wedding is so full of amazing ideas, you’ll be sure to return to it time and time again. D’Arcy Benincosa Photography captured Ben and Amber’s wedding in Salt Lake City, and as you’ll be able to see from these images, Amber is a natural crafter at heart. She handmade not one but two brilliant backdrop walls, and the rest of the details followed suit with amazing creativity.

From the bride, Amber: I know you’ve heard the saying “I feel like the luckiest girl in the world” time and time again, but guys, I felt like the absolute luckiest lady when my groom slipped that engagement ring on my finger and asked me to be his wife. Not only did I get to marry one of the most wonderful human beings on the planet, I got to plan and execute a wedding! A wedding to me is like a fantasy land where creativity, design, music, fashion, family, and friends all get meshed together in one amazing little package. As a self proclaimed “craftster” & “DIYer”, I was overflowing with ideas as to what my wedding day could become.

My husband and I became engaged exactly one year and a day before our wedding date. The nice thing about being engaged the full year before we were married is that I was able to pick a wedding venue and see what it would roughly look like the next fall. The choice was not hard, as our venue was completely gorgeous on its own, having both outdoor and indoor elements. However, I wanted to add those extra DIY crafty elements that made the space really feel like it was “ours”. In fact, before picking our venue, we had talked about renting out a warehouse space for several months to completely customize, but my mom put the brakes on that idea [and thankfully, mother knows best (sometimes)]. Lucky for us too, our venue was absolutely happy to accommodate any crazy idea we threw their way. I remember when I sat down to come up with the decor/installation elements for the wedding I wrote down “textured.” I love the look and feel of using different materials, sizes, and colors right next to each other. By the time I had finished all of my projects for the wedding I was actually concerned that it all wouldn’t look good or cohesive because I had brought in so many different elements (even so much that we had to rent a U-Haul to get all of it to the venue), but much to my relief everything looked amazing and it felt like it had transformed into our own little wonderland.

My favorite thing about Fall, and one of the main reasons I picked it for us to get married, is all of the beautiful saturated colors. I remember when I told our venue coordinator all of the colors that I would be using her eyes went wide, and she said “that’s a lot of colors.” (Her eyes went even bigger when I told her I was bringing not just one, but two “walls” in.) I should tell you that throughout our wedding planning process I never really listened to the advice that most people or popularity gave me (because everyone wants to give you advice). If you want fourteen colors to your wedding, have them. If you want huge displays, make them. My favorite part of the wedding was that it was distinctly mine, I did exactly what I wanted (budget permitting) and in the end I felt so good about the choices I had made. Now, if you are planning a wedding, I’m not telling you to be a bridezilla, but make sure to make yourself happy! It’s your special day after all!

Our ceremony was wonderful, my legs shook the whole time out of nerves, but luckily it was cold enough everybody thought I was just cold (which it really was). The groom and I wrote our own ceremony with the help of the officiant, which was good because we knew exactly what was happening next and kept our composure for the most of it (we’re both a bit tender-hearted). Our ceremony then led into a Soup Bar dinner, and a marvelous reception. We wanted to make sure that our wedding reception would be one to remember, and that our guests would be thoroughly entertained, so instead of doing a “money dance” the groom and I opted to take a note from Jimmy Fallon and we competed in our very first love song Lip Sync Battle. Our guests absolutely loved the “super secret surprise” and it gave family and guests from far away that don’t know us well a chance to see our hilarious competitive side. For the rest of the night we did what my husband does best, and danced the night away.

Cobalt and Gold Bridal Inspiration

Wedding Design

White flowers, gold accents, blue and white china, and bohemian styling all conspire to make this styled shoot from Christine Barlow Photography a home run for wedding design. The delicate flowers in the bride’s braided hairstyle are already making me look for an excuse to don a flower crown for my next outing!

From the photographer, Christine of Christine Barlow Photography: We are swooning over this springy, intricate twist of Cobalt & Gold Bohemian bridal inspiration. This medley of classic cobalt and white porcelain, signature golden vases, and attractive loose florals truly blend perfectly with this bride’s boho-chic style. We are indeed head-over-heels over this bride and her ethereal, boho vibe, complete with dainty flowers woven through her hair and topped off with a glowing complexion. The incorporation of white, cobalt, green, and gold are making us to feel fresh and invigorated and a bit dizzy from an overdose of pretty. We hope this look inspires brides to let their hair flow and run barefoot through the country to forage for flowers to achieve their boho style.

DIY Vine Wall Backdrop

DIY Projects

It’s my personal belief that greenery is always a welcome addition to any type of decor, so this DIY vine wall backdrop tutorial from Kristina Curtis Photography and Calie Rose is right up my alley. Let’s jump right in and find out how to make the perfect greenery backdrop, shall we?

DIY vine wall backdrop - photo by Kristina Curtis Photography http://ruffledblog.com/diy-vine-wall-backdrop

DIY Vine Wall: Adding green vines to a backdrop is a great way to immediately transform a blank canvas, into a beautiful statement piece. Joe and Kirsten wanted a clean yet earthy feel to their formal wedding session so we took a boring white wall and turned it into a gorgeous green earthy backdrop. We thought this would be inspiring for other brides planning their own wedding — this is especially great for indoor events or wedding ceremonies taking place during the cooler months!

DIY vine wall backdrop materials - photo by Kristina Curtis Photography http://ruffledblog.com/diy-vine-wall-backdrop

For this project, you will need:
-Greenery, anything that lasts out of water {we used Italian Ruscus}
-Duct Tape
-Fishing Line
-Green Floral Wire
-Scissors

Instructions:
1. We started off by connecting our greenery with the green floral wire so we would have some nice, long pieces to begin with. Once you have a good variety of lengths, you’re ready to begin placing them on your backdrop.

2. Secure the greenery on your backdrop with duct tape. Duct tape is pretty strong so you will only need a couple small pieces per each vine. We then hung sections with fishing line from the ceiling to create dimension.

DIY vine wall backdrop - photo by Kristina Curtis Photography http://ruffledblog.com/diy-vine-wall-backdrop

3. Continue to build your shape around your focal point, making sure to keep the shape of your greenery asymmetrical. This will help mimic the feel of it growing wild in nature.

Bohemian Valentine’s Day Inspiration

Wedding Design

As far as Valentine’s Day events go, this one is just about as pretty as it gets. With a greenery backdrop in a loose diamond design, plenty of French desserts, and an incredible embellished gown from Bree Lena topped off with a floral crown, every bit is styled to utter perfection by photographers Lori Romney Photography and Jennifer Fauset Photography.

bohemian Valentine's Day inspiration - photo by Lori Romney Photography http://ruffledblog.com/bohemian-valentines-day-inspiration

From the photographers, Lori Romney and Jennifer Fauset: As photographers, we loved creating this romantic, cozy, Valentine’s inspired shoot in the warmth of our Salt Lake City studio. We used a color story of pinks, reds and golds. Since Valentine’s Day makes us think of sweet treats, everything about this photo shoot was based around these amazing and delicious pastries. Our pastry chef, Dani with The Petite Pastry, went all out! The gorgeous color of her sumptuous treats made our table drip with romance. Dani amazed us with her “not cake” cakes, and this cream puff cake was divine! It added texture and interest to our entire event. Everyone involved kept sneaking the pink almond heart shaped cookies. YUM! We wanted the desserts to shine, so we asked our floral design contributor to help us with understated floral arrangements to tie in the Valentine theme. The vine wall was our favorite part! It was made from Eucalyptus that smelled of perfection. It added warmth and beauty to our walls.

The dress was another very important item on our check list! We knew that we wanted sophisticated and romantic. Bree Lena is such a talent and her designs are amazing. This one of a kind dress was a new design she is working on for Provo Fashion Week and we were lucky enough to get to use it, just hours after she finished making it! It is simply stunning. The elegance of this backless gown, mixed with the stunning beaded fabric, looked flawless on our model, Abby. This dress is so intricate, laced with heavy beads, it couldn’t even be hung on a hanger! She brought it to the studio folded up perfectly in a box.

From the pastry chef, The Petite Pastry: Since returning from my fairytale surprise honeymoon in Paris, the city of romance, I have been flirting with the idea of a French-themed table scape full of delicate, sweet aphrodisiac—sweet nothings that inspire and cultivate love. In the limelight is the classic croquembouche, a traditional French wedding “cake” that was created for royalty. A croquembouche is a tower of creme-filled cream puffs held together by caramel and spun sugar. Classic French cookies of all varieties were brought in as supporting cast, including chocolate-dipped pirouettes, brown-butter madelines, strawberry-meringue rosettes, eclairs, almond icebox hearts, and assorted rosewater macaroons.

And just because there wasn’t a traditional wedding cake doesn’t mean didn’t mean we missed out. Oh, there was cake. The classic French opera cake consists of layered jaconde cake soaked in espresso syrup, coffee buttercream, topped with mirror glaze and edible 24k gold leaf was made into bite-sized petite four shapes and paired with chocolate-covered strawberries. Other cakes included a freestanding white chocolate creme cake finished with fresh strawberries and white chocolate shavings, and mini chocolate angel food bundt cakes. As you can see, this sweet table adds to the ambiance of romance and beauty that the couple radiates. I think this French-inspired wedding is one for the history books.

Camping Inspired Wedding at Sundance Resort

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Rebekah Westover

Goodness gracious ladies and gents, sit tight because we’ve got one heck of an event to share with you today. Stacy and TJ’s wedding at the renowned Sundance Resort in Utah is a brilliant collaboration of vision and talented vendors, including Rebekah Westover, Michelle Leo Events, and Urban Chateau, just to name a handful. Their day is overflowing with captivating ideas, so let’s jump on in!

Camping Inspired Wedding at Sundance Resort - photo by Rebekah Westover http://ruffledblog.com/camping-inspired-wedding-at-sundance-resort

From the bride, Stacy: Early on we decided that we wanted our wedding to be an intimate celebration with our closest family and friends, spanning several days. We wanted every element to reflect us as a couple, which meant balancing TJ’s love for the outdoors and rustic aesthetics with some glamour in a place that has special meaning to us. A year earlier, TJ and I shared our first camping trip at Mount Timpanogos, and loved the idea of having the mountain serve as the backdrop for the weekend’s festivities. In addition to the wedding, over the course of the weekend we invited guests to partake a number of activities and events that we coordinated including: hikes, a rafting excursion, a BBQ with cornhole and a bluegrass band, and more.

During our nondenominational wedding ceremony, guests were given a small cup which contained wine from a bottle that TJ had purchased in France as a child. A young romantic at heart, while in France on a school trip, TJ managed to use all the cash he had on hand to buy a nice bottle of wine with the intention of sharing it with his future wife on their wedding day. He also promised himself that he would take his future wife there one day. Cheers to that! Hours after our engagement, he surprised me with a trip to Paris that night.

Our wedding was sophisticated and down to earth at once, and truly a reflection of us and our love for each other. We didn’t want to compete with the natural beauty of the mountain setting, so we incorporated minimal teal, gold, and tribal elements with neutral colors throughout. Guests received teal and gold arrows with their names calligraphed on the fletching to escort them to their seats. Bistro lights hung above the dining room and chandeliers were suspended above the dance floor to balance the rustic glam aesthetic. Meanwhile the floral centerpieces provided pops of bright pinks and reds, and taper candles and votives lined the blue farm tables. We wanted guests to be comfortable and have places they could go to sit and talk once the dancing began, so we arranged vintage furniture inside by the dance floor and outside on the deck with fire pits.

Given we were planning the wedding from NYC, we decided to focus on a few specific DIY items in order to personalize the event. Upon checkin, guests were greeted with linen hiking backpacks filled with assorted goods including the homemade gorp that I always make for TJ when we go hiking. The key ingredient is orange chocolate! At the wedding, we served guests coffee that we brought from Irving Farm in NYC, the location of our first date. We also spent a tremendous amount of time writing personalized wedding vows and crafting decor items for the July 4th BBQ rehearsal dinner.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Your wedding is likely to be the only time in your life when all of your loved ones are together in one place at the same time. Take time throughout the course of the festivities to look around and soak up the love surrounding you. I can’t recall half the details of our wedding day, but when I close my eyes I can recall the feeling of pure joy and the chill that overcame me as I looked out to all our friends and family from our chuppah and the dance floor on our wedding day. That memory will forever warm my heart. Also remember to take ample time for yourself and your significant other. On the morning of my wedding day, I woke up at dawn and sat outside with my journal and a cup of coffee for two hours before my mother-in-law led yoga and meditation for the bridal party. It was such a refreshing way to start the day and allowed me to reflect on the significance of the commitment TJ and I were making. We also made it a point to have plenty of private time together throughout the weekend, whether it was taking the scenic detour to get to our rehearsal dinner, going for a walk on the mountain during cocktail hour, or enjoying a private picnic lunch after the group hike. Inevitably the events will fly by, but taking a moment here and there to pause and reflect on the occasion with your partner will help you be more fully present in the moment. These moments ended up being some of my favorites and are the ones I recall most vividly months later.

From the event designer, Michelle Leo Events: Stacy and TJ were a delightful couple to work with. It always helps when my clients are interested in creating something truly unique and personal rather than duplicating something they’ve already seen when it comes to their wedding design. Stacy put her faith in me as her designer and together I feel we were able to create something that was as equally fun as it was elegant. We infused rustic pieces into the beautiful setting of Sundance through wood tables and linen furniture pieces to create comfortable conversation areas for guests. To balance these rustic elements, we used lush blooms in bold colors on top of the light wood tables dressed with cream runners to create drama. A variety of gold candlesticks with tapers also dressed the tables. This lighting combined with the strung bistro lights overhead created a comfortable and romantic atmosphere for guests to dine. One of my favorite elements of this “Tribal Glam” wedding was the combination of tribal elements throughout the paper suite. I loved the patterned used by Peter Loves Jane on Stacy and TJ’s invitation suite which carried over to the table menu and place cards. To accentuate this tribal element, we designed a completely custom gold and ivory target for the escort card display. The target was filled with darling mint and gold arrows provided by Fletcher and Fox. Guests names and table assignments appeared in hand calligraphy by Curlique Designs on the fletching of each arrow. Guests really enjoyed approaching the target and locating their arrow (which also served as their wedding favor). Rather than signing a typical guest book, guests wrote messages to the couple in a coffee table book boasting images of beautiful Mount Timpanogos, the mountain that served as the beautiful and natural backdrop for Stacy and TJ’s nuptials. Overall this wedding was a joy to plan and design and I’m extremely happy with the results of this darling celebration.

From the photographer, Gideon Photography: It’s that time of year — winter is upon us and with it snow and holiday cheer. This winter wonderland inspired wedding theme shoot captures winter in all of its splendor and beauty. The styling of this shoot with its monotone palette let the snow and elements shine. I especially love the hot chocolate shooters for keeping warm on a cold winter day.

Christmas Wedding Inspiration with Fruit Decor

Wedding Design

We just adore the trend of pomegranates (or any fruit, really!) in wedding decor. Those pomegranates are the focus of this styled Christmas wedding from Tyler Rye Photography, Forevermore Events, and Bloomers Flowers & Decor, who take the traditional reds and greens of the holiday season and update them with a modern twist in a unique desert location.

From the photographer, Tyler Rye: We wanted to put a little twist on the traditional holiday Inspiration shoot. We added fun details like an old sled and a hand made table by Tyler Rye Photography. We wanted a shoot that would remind people of the beauty of the holidays with out being too traditional.

Romantic Floral Inspiration Shoot

Wedding Design

We may have seen our fair share of bridal sessions here at Ruffled, but whenever there’s a backdrop as pretty as this one, it’s hard not to get excited all over again. While this floral garland is perfect for this bridal shoot, it could also work wonders as a ceremony backdrop on the actual wedding day. Thank you Lindsey Orton Photography and Lizy’s Lillies for your work on this one!

Romantic floral Inspiration Shoot - photo by Lindsey Orton Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-bridal-inspiration-shoot

From the photographer, Lindsey Orton Photography: We really wanted to give brides inspiration on what they could do for a great statement piece or backdrop for a ceremony. They could even use it for a reception or photo booth. We just loved the idea of falling blooms, almost like rain! We wanted it to be very natural, airy, and organic. We tried to keep a soft and feminine color scheme, which is why we chose the soft blush wedding dress.

Sundance Resort Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Blush Photography

We just may have found a new favorite venue in Utah’s Sundance Resort – just take one look at these images from Blush Photography and you’ll know why. It was love at first sight for Erica and Jake too, who planned a “forest elegance experience” with the help of Petal Pixie. You knocked this one out of the park, ladies and gents!

Sundance Resort wedding - photo by Blush Photography http://ruffledblog.com/sundance-resort-wedding

From the bride, Erica: I’m from Utah, Jake is from Illinois and we are both New York transplants who seriously needed a break from the concrete jungle to go back to our more outdoorsy roots. We envisioned a rustic forest wedding surrounded by beautiful mountains, crisp, fresh air and most importantly our family and friends. Sundance is an inspiring place where we know our love will forever stay tucked in between all the mountains and trees. To kick off the weekend festivities at Sundance, we planned a lovely outdoor welcome brunch with just parents and siblings and followed it with a relaxed outdoor BBQ rehearsal dinner. Those two events really set the tone and gave everyone, including Jake and me, a chance to talk and relax before the big day.

Flower recipe: I remember telling our florist that I wanted the bouquets to look like we had all run into a field and picked fresh flowers. The bouquets stay true to the nude palette but each have some oranges and purples thrown in to brighten things up. Dahlias, roses, stock, anemone, thistle, succulents, protea, air plants, moss, artichokes, and ranunculus (in my bouquet and hairpiece).

Choosing vendors was a fun experience for me and when we saw Kim’s company, Petal Pixie, and her Hidden Forest shoot we didn’t have to look any further. After one conversation we knew that she would understand our vision of creating a rustic, forest elegant experience. The beauty in a forest is the unique details of every tree, flower, shrub and root and that’s the concept we wanted to create with the wedding. We chose to forgo the idea of “a wedding color” in favor of the mismatched approach. Every table had a different arrangement of flowers, succulents, lanterns, mosses and vases, all the groomsmen and bridesmaids had a different outfit based on a common idea and it all worked together beautifully!

Another key component of our wedding was the photography. We wanted a personal and artistic approach to preserving our wedding. Our wonderful photographer, Brooke Davis – Blush Photography, embodied this idea completely. During our engagement shoot she had us running through the woods so it came as no surprise that after the ceremony she took us up a mountain trail – high heels, dress, suit and all – we hiked up a dirt path through the pine trees to get the perfect shot and one of our favorite memories. For me, the bride, the planning experience was so enjoyable that I even opened up my own forest wedding decor shop on Etsy called Fir and Forest. Every time I make an item for someone’s wedding, I get to relive a little bit of our own perfect day.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t forget to have a moment of Zen along the way. It’s important to take a moment to breathe and remember that everything will all come together in the end. The most stressful part for us was the logistics. We had a lot of guests traveling, but also we were planning a Utah wedding from New York and even from out of the country for a few months – it’s quite a task planning a wedding from India – but in the end, it’s just all part of the adventure! We did a brainstorming session at the venue with our florist and coordinator, Kim, from Petal Pixie and we were immediately on the same page. Find vendors who understand your vision, will listen to what you do and don’t like and will take it to the next level and make it more unique and special than you ever thought. Have a blast with your photos and do something unexpected. One of my favorite parts of the entire weekend was running off to do our shots together right after the ceremony. We found a path in the forest where the sun was seeping through the trees and hiked all around (heels and all) while our photographer, Brooke, took some magical shots. We ran free until we were out of breath, got covered with dirt and pine needles and it… was…. fabulous. I’ll never forget it. Keep it real. We tried our hardest to plan from the perspective of our family and friends and think how each decision would effect them. We stayed true to ourselves, but always had everyone’s feelings on our mind and heart.

Since we are both musicians and it was important to incorporate music into the wedding as much as we could. Jake sang a song he wrote for me called “Love You Forever” during the reception – It was just the two of us in the middle of the room on the dance floor. So romantic!

Zion National Park Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

AK Studio & Design

Have you ever seen a backdrop more breathtaking than Zion National Park? When you’re surrounded by such gorgeous scenery, a bit of simplicity goes a long way. Mandolin and Nik didn’t let go of the opportunity to sport a bit of color, though — their Pantone ceremony backdrop also carried into the reception in brilliant ways. Thanks to AK Studio & Design for capturing this one!

From the bride, Mandolin: My husband and I love Zion National Park and wanted to share that love with our guests for our destination wedding, so we invited everyone to come stay with us for the entire week leading up to the wedding. Guests were coming from all over the world — India, Argentina, the Congo, Canada — so we wanted the wedding to be in a place that guests might not have visited otherwise. Since we were in such a gorgeous setting, I wanted the backdrop to do most of the “decorating” for us for the wedding. It was stunning to get married in such a beautiful place, and we arranged it so that guests had a 15-minute, breathtaking drive into the ceremony site inside the park to set the tune of the wedding and to instill a sense of awe at the beauty of the natural world.

We resisted having a color scheme, so we went the opposite route and embraced all colors (within reason). :) The flowers at the reception tables (ranunculus, my favorite) were multicolor in warm hues and placed in a progressive color pattern down the long, family style tables. In my work, I use the Pantone color scheme on a regular basis, so we used Pantone postcards as place settings and for the backdrop to the ceremony, which later decorated the reception site. I ordered the reception flowers from an online website and put them in mason jars myself (DIY). A friend did the hand-lettering on the place cards, and many other friends helped to make the backdrop. My father made the frame for the backdrop and was in charge of moving it from the ceremony to the reception site. My mother wrote and put on a short play, including making the costumes, for the entertainment of the guests. My sister-in-law taught everyone some Bollywood dance moves. I designed and letterpress printed the save the dates, wedding invitations, favors (a set of 10 letterpress printed coasters at each place setting), and the poem broadside we handed out at the ceremony to go along with the reading. Everyone pitched in to help, and most of the decorative elements were DIY.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It’s only one day, and it will be wonderful no matter how the decorations look. Don’t get too caught up in the details, which no one will notice but you. Have fun, and make the day an expression of the two of you as a couple, not an expression of what the world says a wedding should be or should look like.

We had lots of soul, reggae, funk, world music — my husband loves music, and our dear friend Michael Olsen (Freedom Sounds) was our DJ. Cinco de Mayo Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Chelsea Scanlan

Every year we look forward to May for one very special reason: Cinco de Mayo. As a holiday that celebrates Mexican heritage and pride, it’s a day full of bright colors and endless inspiration – even for the wedding world! Photographer Chelsea Scanlan put together this fantastic styled shoot chock full of Cinco de Mayo wedding ideas, and we’re completely smitten with every single one.

Cinco de Mayo wedding ideas - photo by Chelsea Scanlan http://ruffledblog.com/cinco-de-mayo-wedding-ideas

From the photographer, Chelsea Scanlan: While visiting the mainland in the spring, I thought it would be a fabulous time to do a little inspiration shoot that I have been dreaming up for a while. A Cinco De Mayo themed inspiration shoot – the festivities are known for bright colors and I thought it would be nice to use those bold colors in a wedding. We all love those pastel colored weddings, but I thought it would be lovely to add a pop of color that could still be fun, yet romantic and classy. I knew the beautiful desert with sage brush, mountains, a touch of gold, and a beautiful couple would be a dream.

With accents of bright oranges, reds, and pinks for the festivities, it was a fun blend of bright and pastel colors. The gold trim on the table along with an overabundance of colorful cacti and spring flowers made a classic, yet fun table for the bride and groom. A lantern and tall candles brought a little romance to the rustic setting. I had the beautifully talented Avie Designs provide a perfect invitation suite with a stunning cut out invitation in complementary colors that were a perfect bright introduction for guests to the theme of the wedding.

A simple, classic cake with spring flowers, including magnolias were all that were needed for a simple cake for a romantic, rustic wedding. Orange ombre drinks for cocktail hours or a toast served on a rustic gold tray would be a lovely unique add to the festivities. To bring in a bit of the traditional colors with a modern twist, the couple posed in front of a backdrop full of streamers of various colors – perfect for a fun ending to a wedding. I hoped this shoot would be a perfect blend of classic and a little twist of modern brightness for a fun Cinco De Mayo shoot that brides to be everywhere could enjoy and see that a little pop of color, or adding a little pastel to your wedding colors could be a fun and different twist this 2014.

Barbie Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

If you tried to tell me that a Barbie-inspired wedding shoot could be both fun and sophisticated, I’d have a difficult time believing you – that is, until I saw this styled shoot from Mikki Platt Photography. The secret? Tackling Barbie and Ken as an elegant adult couple, Barbara and Kenneth. We’re still having a difficult time recovering from the beauty of Blossom Sweet‘s floral arrangements, bursting with gorgeous pinks and purples!

From the photographer, Mikki Platt: I am so excited to share this editorial shoot with you! It’s a modern take on every little girl’s favorite couple, “Barbie & Ken,” all grown up as Barbara and Kenneth. We took the essentials of America’s glamorous sweetheart and her dream boy, and created an elegant, classic and blithe celebration of blonde hair, pink heels, and Barbie’s perfect accessory (second only to her man), a Corvette!

I invite you to gush over the stunning florals, gorgeous ruffled gown, chic getaway mini-dress and the scrumptious 34-flavor donut bar. This shoot was inspired by my mother’s own innocent childhood obsession with Barbies. And since I welcomed a new baby girl into my home this year, it’s only fitting that I jump head first into the world of pretty and pink.

Blush and Gold Utah Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Alixann Loosle

If antique chic and rustic elegance got married, this wedding from Alixann Loosle Photography would be their baby — no question. A dream team of vendors came together to make this big day a reality, including event design by Michelle Leo Events and lush flowers from Urban Chateau Floral. Naturally, I can’t leave out the ultimate show-stopper, bride Jessica in her Jenny Packham gown — beyond.

blush and gold utah wedding - photo by Alixann Loosle http://ruffledblog.com/blush-and-gold-utah-wedding

From the bride, Jessica: The intended vibe was to be something like elegant vintage. We rented some really nice vintage furniture pieces. We used a lot of gold accents to really help with that elegant feel. The day ended up being very intimate and romantic. I just love classic furniture pieces, and timeless design. I think the kickstarter to solidify the theme though was my amazing Jenny Packham dress. I wanted gold to be a big element of the wedding with an infusion of peaches and blush and pops of coral, and ivory. I didn’t want to go with a theme, I just went with what felt right to me with some vintage pieces like the furniture and my dress, and timeless colors and flowers. Our DIY projects were the homemade peach jam favors. My Grandmother, my mother and I all worked on them.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Nail down the things you can’t live without, whether it’s certain pictures for your photographer, the venue, anything. And then the things that you can compromise on are easier. If you are having your wedding outside, really put thought into a weather backup plan. I really wish we had gone thru a backup seating layout for inside the barn, when our dinner outside got rained out. It got chaotic having people moving furniture and no one knowing what to do with it or where it goes. If I could go back it would be the one thing I would have changed, knowing exactly how things should be set up in either situation so everyone is on the same page. It goes by in the blink of an eye so focus on the moment, because before you know it you are driving away going “I can’t believe it’s over already!”

Wedding Music:
Processional: “Ho Hey,” The Lumineers, covered by Lennon & Maisy
Recessional: “Can’t Take my Eyes Off of You,” Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, covered by Lauryn Hill
First dances were supposed to be “Marry You” by Bruno Mars and then transitioned into “Suit and Tie” by Justin Timberlake. Didn’t quite work out that way when we had to shuffle everything into the barn after it rained.

From the planner, Michelle Leo Events: Jessica came to me with a very clear vision of what she wanted: Pretty, classic, sophistication sprinkled with vintage and rustic details. She knew she wanted to use gold, blush and ivory (one of my favorite color combos) and a splash of mint. She also knew she wanted to find the perfect rustic setting for this beautiful event and chandeliers and romantic draping were a must (my kind of wedding)!

After finding the perfect barn, I immediately went to work putting together designs for her table settings. Vineyard tables, silky blush runners and gold vessels for all the amazing blush and ivory blooms. We decided to create a lounge area for the cocktail hour that was full of romance and vintage elements. The different settees and coffee tables made for such setting that was as inviting as it was romantic. Coffee tables were decorated with little touches like lace doilies, a vintage telephone, and pink depression glass full of blush and buttery colored macarons.

I could go on and on about all the pretty details of this wedding but in all honesty, the bride stole the entire show (as it should be) in her stunning Jenny Packham gown from Alta Moda Bridal. This dress was simply exquisite and Jessica couldn’t have possibly looked more beautiful if she had tried. She just glowed all day and by the end of the night, she was as radiant as ever as she and her hubby bid their guests goodbye, through a romantic sparkler send off showering sparks and love.

Backyard Chic Utah Wedding

Garden Weddings

If you have a deep love for Claire Pettibone wedding gowns like I do, you’re in for one heck of a treat today. Maddie and Gray celebrated their love with a soft and romantic wedding in the bride’s parents’ backyard, bringing along Pepper Nix Photography to capture every detail and nuance.

backyard utah wedding // via ruffledblog.com

From the bride, Maddie: We really wanted our wedding to feel subtle, soft, romantic but still have some fun glitz. I knew we wanted some kind of installation wall at the back of the tent, preferably wood, to ground the whole thing and really set the mood. We wanted rustic, but not burlap or hay… more earthy and romantic… more of an old vineyard or winery kind of rustic. I wanted wood and gold accents and lots of flowers and twinkly lights.

Jen came up with this fantastic idea of having our wood wall have lots of little shelves to hold candles, flowers, etc. She also thought of applying gold leaf and painting our monogram on it in white. It was just magical. The shelves holding the candles and spilling flowers was just beautiful. It perfectly fit the idea I was trying to convey, which was a sort of messy mix of earthy, romantic, Great Gatsby and woodsy all at the same time. And the gold leaf just sealed the deal! Adding it to the table numbers has to be one of my favorite little touches of the whole wedding!

I knew I wanted a subtle color palette that was romantic and soft. I wanted to let the flowers pop and really not take away from the garden. We didn’t want strong accent colors or something color to be the focal point. We wanted the whole thing to mix together into a sort of ethereal wash of twinkly lights and soft flowers, without being interrupted by intense pops of color. The colors acted as a backdrop, not the defining feature. The goal was to have them complement and recede behind some of our other decor features, like the wood wall backdrop and the gold leaf.

Any advice you have for future couples planning their weddings now? I think the most important thing is to hire good vendors and let them do what they are good at! That way, you don’t have to worry about the details on your wedding day so you can relax and enjoy your own party!

Christmas Woodland Inspiration

Wedding Design

Oh holiday season, how we love thee so. It’s the time of year when we’re drawn to woodsy settings, deep reds, and snowy romance – all of which can be found in this styled shoot sent over by Callie Hobbs Photography. Let’s all make a nice mug of marshmallow-y cocoa and take in this beauty, shall we?

christmas woodland inspiration via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Callie Hobbs: I fell in love with this shoot before it even started. We planned it knowing there would mostly likely be snow and that was thrilling to us. The morning started with a necessary change in location due to weather conditions, however, Utah is such a beautiful place it was easy to find another dreamy spot. The snow falling and pine tree combination created a magical feeling of romance without us even having to try.

I kept a crisp, colorful look to the photos as we aimed to keep the decor elegant with the classic pops of red, green, and gold adding neutrals to the palette to keep it sweet and simple. The couple was amazing! Lydia and Dallas. They were beautiful, classy, and the perfect fit for our shoot. Lydia’s look was just what we had envisioned from the flow of her dress to her rose gold ring all the way to her long brunette hair that wholly showed off the headpiece beautifully created by E-flowers. We wanted to show the variation of this wintry look by dressing it up with the fur jacket or keeping it casual with the flannel button down.

Bohemian Fall Bridal Session

Wedding Design

It would be an injustice to let autumn come and go without sharing these gorgeous bridal session images, as far as I’m concerned. Alyssia B Photography took the reigns as photographer and Flowers By Adrien did the same with floral design, resulting in a romantic bohemian aesthetic heavy on the purples and pinks and light on fussiness.

Blacksmith Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Today’s styled wedding shoot just goes to show you can find inspiration in unlimited places. Tyler of Tyler Rye Photography formed this shoot after seeing an anvil in a farmer’s work shed. He brought Swoon Vintage Rental Co. and Floral Design by Erin on board to help complete his vision, and the rest is photo shoot history!

blacksmith inspired wedding ideas // via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Tyler Rye: Forged was inspired by a simple Anvil. I was working at a farmer’s house and happened to look over and see his Anvil setting on a stand near his shed. It clicked in my mind how cool it would be to do a Black Smith themed wedding shoot. I started that day to gather antique smithing tools – everything from hammers to smelting tools. The couple that modeled are friends of my wife. They have been married for two years and this was a great way for them to reconnect as a couple. The location has been a dream spot for me ever since my wife and I had our Engagement pictures taken there 3 years ago! I had a lot of help getting this shoot ready and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my wife. Not only did she do the hair for the model, but she arranged both the tables and made them look amazing.
