It has to be said that we are absolutely in awe of every real wedding we come across and this darling California wedding from the lens of Shoda Love has been added to that list. It’s full of lovely details (like adorable pets and fun song lyric signage!) and the planning and design cleverness of CCL Weddings & Events, paired with the floral stylings of Art With Nature. What we’re really mesmerized by is the escort card display. It’s so unique and definitely a wedding conversation piece!

Heavenly Wedding Inspiration with a Floral Swing

Wedding Design

Gauzy and dreamy, this Avec L’Amour Photography and Delighted Images shoot is the bee’s knees. Thuy from Avec L’Amour Photography orchestrated the fine details of the shoot and went for a romantic, carefree, and innocent setup, with the sweetest floral swing we’ve seen. Pineapple Petals Studio added to the mix by having heaps and heaps of the prettiest pink fleurs: bougainvillea, roses, tulips, and peonies, to name a few. We can never resist falling for an ultra-feminine shoot like this one!

From the photographer and event designer, Avec L’Amour Photography: California has a natural, golden beauty that is, in one aspect, so harsh, yet also so mesmerizing. The Bay Area is surrounded by golden hills that are often untouched, but only an arms length away. We, a group of Bay Area creative wedding professionals, decided to take a mid-season respite and refill our creative cup with a dream shoot that features some new and different things with which to inspire our clients. This shoot was photographed on both film for its dreamy qualities and digital for expediency. We combined the mediums in this gallery to show brides the seamless blending of hybrid photography, which allows for both cost effective services and true film range.

Before iPads and Pokemon GO, tree swings and warm afternoon breezes were one of the best memories of childhood summers. The quintessential symbol of carefree and happy, we incorporated a handmade rope swing with gorgeous vining bougainvillea and passion flower as a focal point for our model. To round out the look, we added vintage lanterns styled with tree of heaven clusters and more bougainvillea. Finding a hill with a lone, sturdy oak tree to provide an arm and canopy was the finishing touch that made it all feel romantic and heavenly!

The model’s pink champagne two piece dress is perfectly elegant yet playful with the beaded, French vintage inspired cropped camisole and a skirt made of layers upon layers of soft, lightweight tulle. Her light coverage, natural makeup look and loosely arrange low up-do accented with gorgeous handmade hair pieces gives her an organic, effortless look of beauty. Two bouquets were made to compliment this bride’s look — a sweet, but understated romantic arrangement and a more vibrant and textured bouquet. Both looks use the same color family, but feature different levels of vibrancy. Similarly, the menu and invitations showcase a watercolor floral scheme with gold flecked hand lettering to update traditional wedding paper design.

The tablescape is the real life embodiment of our vision of a perfect romantic dinner al fresco. Vintage French bistro chairs were given romantic flare when adorned with olive leaves and budding olives, while delicate, paper thin fuchsia bougainvillea added a feminine touch. The overflowing centerpiece of loosely arranged varieties of roses, tulips, tree of heaven, raspberries, and sweet peas made the rosé wine and lavender buds that much sweeter to sip! Because every dinner should end on a sweet note, the simple, two layered cake decorated with the most organic spray of jasmine vines and a single dusky pink lisianthus could not be more enticing!

Alchemy Inspired Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

Here’s an absolutely inspiring wedding styled shoot with a botanical, ethereal feel. With its clean and modern palette of creamy whites and various shades of soft green, Julie Paisley Photography captured the natural styling of Cedarwood Weddings‘ alchemy-themed wedding shoot. Adding geodes and quartz to wedding tablescapes and other decor elements are a hot wedding trend right now, and we love how the white quartz is perched as a cake topper. Our eyes are loving those tulips, but we’re so smitten over the foliage and the greenery, especially as they snake out in the terrariums. Such a fun concept!

white and green wedding colors - http://ruffledblog.com/alchemy-inspired-wedding-editorial

From the event designer, Cedarwood Weddings: Our Alchemy wedding inspiration uses natural elements like quartz crystals, minerals, and light to elevate event design to an ethereal expression of love. Styling is subtle, a delicate balance of earth and fire. Hues of pale green and mint floral and décor – including hand blown glass terrariums encasing mysteriously exotic air plants – are elegantly natural. Candlelight warms and reflects the neutral reception setting, as sunlight illuminates our gorgeous bride’s golden hour photo session with Julie Paisley.

Vellum invitations and paper goods continue the touch of lightness in design. Elements are carefully curated to represent the connection between heaven and earth, including rock candy decorated cocktails and cake, and an altar of branches grounding a suspended installation of candles and air plants. Guests participate in the mystery with unopened crystal geode favors. Carol Hannah’s AZURITE gown, which “celebrates feminine strength and mystery”, is stunning both in the color and luxurious use of fine flowing fabrics that gracefully drape our bride as she frolics in the estate meadow. Carol Hannah’s Dew Headpiece is a fine embellishment of glass beading and brass wire that is flexible enough to use in any hairstyle.

French Country Banquet Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Debbie Lourens

This Debbie Lourens and Green Goddess Flower Studio collaboration shoot is a vision in red. The deep ruby is just so mesmerizing and definitely screams French countryside when you see how this rich color is woven and worked into this editorial. It’s such a strong color on its own and adding a delightful punch of pale blue to the mix of colors is the icing on the cake. Not only does it bring out the red even more, it softens the whole look, giving it a nice touch of whimsy. There are so many treats to see with this wedding inspiration!

countryside wedding ideas - photo by Debbie Lourens http://ruffledblog.com/french-country-banquet-wedding-inspiration

From the floral designer and stylist, Green Goddess Flower Studio: The inspiration for this shoot was a French banquet in a relaxed country setting. Reminiscent of traditional family dining around a big table in an old Loire Valley chateau. The overall look of the table is one that is relaxed, but elegant without being overly rustic – a little bit of French country botanical. We wanted a table that looked warm and inviting, particularly for couples who want to consider a cooler weather wedding. It can be a wonderful time of year to get married and really enjoy those rich, decadent winter meals, with great wine and a roaring fire. We opted for warm, rich colours of reds, peach and coral, with hints of mint and deep purple for some added drama. We chose large opulent, heavily petalled blooms to convey the sense of understated elegance and to off-set the rich textures of the finer berries. We chose to do a swag style arrangement which is very on-trend and suits the French banquet style of dining.

Langverwagt is a historic farm with beautiful heritage buildings. As the reception cellars were built for practical use of storing wine, they are quite dark – which invites filling the rooms with lots of warm candlelight and rich warm colours. The farm has beautiful gardens around every corner and it was lovely to bring some of the garden into the venue as part of this shoot. And to make use of the venue’s permanent fairy light installations to add some romance to the look.

We wanted to use items that were effortlessly elegant, as if you had been invited to a French country chateau for this celebration. Almost as if the village had all rallied and lent all of their best family crystal, flatware and candlesticks to help the couple celebrate amongst those who had watched them grow up. The slight colour on the flatware added an interesting perspective instead of going for more neutral crockery. It also had a slightly raised pattern on it that gave it a more relaxed feel than if we had chosen something with a gold rim for example. The glasses from Woolworths were ideal they were very classic shapes with beautiful etching that conveys old tradition without the heaviness of a cut crystal glass.

We used a stone coloured linen tablecloth to keep the look relaxed and added a striped linen runner to give it a more French feel. The lighter coloured linen also served as a great backdrop for the deeper coloured flowers and complemented them, rather than competing with them. The gold cutlery was a little nod to some opulence and completed the look by adding to the warm colours of the décor.

We also chose the clear perspex Victoria chairs, which are based on the design of Louis chairs, again the French connection. But we opted for clear chairs, to let the opulence of the table do the talking, rather than confusing the look with more detail in the chairs. We considered using wooden chairs, but the clear perspex added a more contemporary feel, that was too old-world.

We call this type of arrangement a swag or a floral runner. It is often made with mostly greenery, but in our case given the season and the abundance of beautiful berries (in red, purple, brown, green and pink tones), we used the berries as the main ingredient of the swag, with a little greenery for some definition. This was complemented with coral charm peonies (from Holland as they are in season in the Northern Hemisphere between May and August), but peonies are available locally at the end of October, but not necessarily in this colour), red tulips (these are in season in South Africa between June and October), red ranunculus (in season in South Africa from June to November), cream, red and peach roses (available all year round), foliage, all complemented by a mix of seasonal berries.

Language of Flowers Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Hanna Photography

I recall the first time I heard about the meanings of flowers and almost immediately, I was captivated by it. The gesture of using certain flowers in a wedding bouquet to symbolize important characteristics is just so dreamy and romantic. Stemming from a novel, Festive Event Planning used the shoot concept to its full potential. With Hanna Photography commanding the camera, it’s no shocker that the whole editorial and the darling florals by Emlily Floral Design makes this shoot so alluring to look at.

romantic wedding dresses - photo by Hanna Photography http://ruffledblog.com/language-of-flowers-wedding-editorial

From the event designer, Festive Event Planning:
The inspiration behind the shoot stemmed from the novel “The Language of Flowers,” by Vanessa Diffenbaugh, in which a young girl turns to flowers as a source of creativity and identity in the midst of trials. Her skills go beyond her ability to create beautiful arrangements to also include her aptitude for weaving together florals with meanings and purposes specific to the recipient.

In this way, I was compelled to create a story through the language and meaning of flowers – utilizing flowers that conveyed messages pertinent to love and marriage. Emily of Emlily Floral Design beautifully delved into this concept with arrangements of lavender roses (enchantment), white roses (purity), ferns (sincerity) sweetpeas (pleasure) and white clovers (think of me), garlands of ivy (fidelity/marriage) and passion vine, and assortments of yellow tulips (helpless love), veronica (fidelity), and lamb’s ear (softness/support), which hung overhead.

wedding reception - photo by Hanna Photography http://ruffledblog.com/language-of-flowers-wedding-editorial

With the reception table, I wanted to exude the feeling of wildness meeting elegance, with natural garlands running across the table that was purposefully adorned with handmade beeswax candles and linens hand dyed using fruits and flowers. Tableware by Pretty Vintage Rentals included handpainted salad plates, gold-tone flatware and mismatched crystal pressed glass stemware.

The invitations by Cecile’s Paper Co. embodied this story of flowers with a mix of bold prints and colors with soft letterpress lettering, while the three-tier cake by Frost It Cakery took the appearance of a blossoming rose. Additional details included the flower satchet favors, which were handcrafted using lavender and spray roses, and gilded jewelry by BHLDN. The intimate greenhouse of Stella Mare’s and a rose garden served as our backdrops, perfectly complimenting the natural feel of the day. In all, I wanted to tell a story with this shoot – a story of beauty, creativity and love.

Colorful Ironstone Vineyards Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Erin Milnik

An elegant wedding in the countryside can definitely be styled to how you want it, so when Cat and John were planning their California vineyard nuptials, they wanted heaps of color and a lovely dash of whimsy thrown in for good measure. Their florist, Rare Palette, went all out in designing the wedding blooms, using wondrous combinations of peonies, tulips, and garden roses that got our hearts racing. We’re so glad Erin Milnik was there to capture this day!

From the bride, Cat: We imagined an elegant wedding in the country — classic, vintage, romantic, rustic. Our color scheme was navy with pops of orange, pinks, golden yellow, and greens. We had some DIY projects, including handcrafted petal cones, a custom welcome sign and seating chart made from reclaimed pallets and stained by John, our table number holders and table numbers, the weathered arbor (steel wool, vinegar, and black tea stain), seed packet name cards, and the ribbon garland on cake table.

From the photographer, Erin MilnikI’m thrilled to be sharing John and Cat’s wedding day with you! I met the couple in a coffee shop in Murphy’s California… the couple was staying in a cabin nearby, had been wine tasting, and decided they loved Ironstone Vineyards so much that they ended up booking it for their wedding venue. John is a design director at Clif Bar so the wedding would be full of great design and lots of color.

Live Floral Backdrop Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Floral wall backdrops are something that we’ll never tire of, frankly. No matter if they’re used at a ceremony or behind the sweetheart table, they give off such elegance and the best part is you can do absolutely anything you want with it. So when LVL Weddings & Events tackled this brilliant shoot, they moved towards the direction of a fun and refreshing botanical floral wall exquisitely done by Flower Bar, mixing and matching tropical green leaves with bubblegum pink roses and peonies with creamy hydrangeas to name a few. Not stopping there, the wow factor extended all over this editorial. Definitely a shoot to see and we have Amy and Jordan Photography to thank for it!

From the event planners and designers, LVL Weddings & Events: Emily Schiesl of LVL Weddings & Events took the reins on a styled shoot design held at The Clayton on the Park in the heart of Scottsdale, Arizona. Emily was inspired by botanical florals seen in spring fashion and decor popping up in the early months of 2016 and chose to complement the bright blooms with bold black and the softness of blush and gold throughout the overall design.

The most bold statement came from the ceremony backdrop designed by Flower Bar, to create the look of a live floral wall (floral wallpaper anyone?!). The flower wall was designed to look like botanical prints found in books and wall decor, with carefully placed blooms mixed with greens. This bold statement piece complemented the softness of the blush linens by La Tavola as well as the stationary suite by Vee Creative.

We couldn’t have asked for a more darling couple – a local, recently married duo, whose love just danced in every photo. The bride wore the Ariane gown from BHLDN with a cathedral veil and teardrop earrings before changing into her ‘getaway’ dress, also BHLDN. We kept the groom more traditional in a tailored tuxedo-style suit by Brothers Tailors (letting him lose the tie for their getaway photos in the desert sunset). The cake and specialty deserts by Ruze Cake House almost stole the show! Macarons and cookies shared the same floral designs by Vee Creative, while the lollipops and sugar cubes held edible flowers, perfect for a bubbly toast. Ruze Cake House also tied in the black, blush, gold and floral theme with a 3-tiered gold gilded cake and mini naked cakes in dark chocolate with fresh blooms.

Earthy Greenhouse Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Hello, grass place mats! When this wedding made its way into our inbox, it was one we all immediately fell head over heels in love with. There was an overcast haze throughout this shoot, but it seems to have elevated these fantastic colors Ninth & Everett used in this Christy Wilson Photography shoot. The cool and crisp colors of the venue emphasized the overall neutral palette found on the handwritten Italian paper menus and the pink and white darling centerpieces by The Farmers Florist. This shoot is just a win all around.

From the event planners and designers, Ninth & Everett: When we initially partnered with Christy Wilson of Christy Wilson photography, we discussed the idea of working with one of Nashville’s most beautiful new venues, Long Hollow Gardens & Nursery. We wanted to take a very natural environment and add a rich touch of luxury to create the perfect balance of earthy and elegance – A modern but timeless greenhouse wedding.

Colorful Wedding at Terrain

Garden Weddings

No matter how many times we see rain on a wedding day, it never appears to put a damper on the newlyweds’ faces. Amanda and Rich were all smiles for their color-filled wedding day at Terrain at Styer’s, one of our very own long-time favorite venues! Ruffled vendor danfredo photos + films nailed it behind the camera, while Fresh Designs Florist brought the bride’s dream floral visions to life.

From the bride, Amanda: My husband Rich and I visited Terrain, our venue, for a coffee several months before we got engaged. We loved how beautiful, rustic, and romantic it was while also feeling laid back and cozy. Terrain’s vibe informed much of our wedding planning. We knew we wanted to get married, and we knew that we wanted all of our guests to really enjoy celebrating with us and to feel like they were a part of something special too. As we planned, we tried to imagine our wedding from the perspective of our guests and make everything as easy and fun as possible.

Parisian Twilight Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Navy blue and gold make a timeless combo, and they work brilliantly together in this styled shoot from Kelli Boyd Photography, Grace Graffiti, and The Vine. This talented team of vendors used a real life couple who recently got engaged in France, so a theme of Parisian Twilight fit the bill wonderfully! Let’s jump right on in:

Parisian Twilight Wedding Inspiration - photo by Kelli Boyd Photography http://ruffledblog.com/parisian-twilight-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Grace Graffiti: With such a talented group of vendors, we thought it would be best to let each vendor have full creative control of their area of expertise. We wanted to showcase each other’s strengths and how amazing a wedding can look when your have a team of vendors that work well together. Our model couple just recently were engaged in Paris, France, so the theme of a Parisian Wedding fit perfectly. From the chandelier hanging from the trees to the sabering of sparkling wine to the floral macaron wedding cake, our couple were able to reminisce their engagement in the international city of love.

Lavender Big Island Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Today’s wedding just happens to be one of those that feels so relaxed, you just wish you had been there to share in such a special day. Kylie Martin Photography and Bliss in Bloom took the reins on Natalie and Dylane’s wedding day, capturing beautiful scenes in various shades of purple and lush arrangements filled to the brim with roses.

engagement ring box - photo by Kylie Martin Photography http://ruffledblog.com/lavender-big-island-wedding

From the bride, Natalie: I really just wanted the wedding to feel elegant and whimsical, Hawaii is so beautiful it wasn’t hard to make that happen! Purple is my favorite color so it was pretty easy to pick the color scheme for the wedding. We went with lots of different shades of purples, some blues, and white accents. When I saw how all the colors came together I was beyond amazed at how well they complimented each other.

Summer Destination Wedding in Cape Town

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Debbie Lourens

Today’s couple decided to travel from their home in Texas to South Africa for a destination wedding to remember. Debbie Lourens Photography and A Little Thing Called helped Nicole and Jadeon bring their visions to life, which included a breezy garden style and a couple of extra special guests!

summer destination wedding in Cape Town - photo by Debbie Lourens Photography http://ruffledblog.com/summer-destination-wedding-in-cape-town

From the bride, Nicole: We had a summer wedding in the vineyards in a valley with mountain views. We were looking for a romantic garden wedding style that was not too over the top but still made a statement. Our colors were supposed to be soft pink, white, gold and burgundy, but the florist added her own style and a few extra colors which came out wonderfully.

Romantic Wedding in the Berkshires

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

The Melideos

Today’s couple, Angela and Ryan, actually eloped late last year — but they still didn’t want to miss out on a good time with friends and family. The Melideos and Flower Blossom Farm were at the top of their list to help them celebrate in style, with a night that included everything from a cocktail hour to late-night pizza.

romantic wedding in the Berkshires - photo by The Melideos http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-wedding-in-the-berkshires

From the bride, Angela: My husband and I actually eloped last September. We wanted a small and intimate ceremony but also wanted to be able to celebrate with family and friends at a future date. We didn’t have a ‘theme’ per se but we knew we wanted a casual vibe with no pressure for us or our guests. The Berkshires was a perfect location since we have roots spread between MA, MD and NY. We chose the Seven Hills Inn because it was the perfect mix of casual and elegant and it could accommodate almost all of our guests, most of whom came up for the whole weekend. Since there was no ceremony, the party kicked off with cocktail hour on the patio, followed by dinner, drinks, dancing, a slow-motion photo booth and late-night pizza.

Modern Romantic Wedding Ideas with Marsala

Wedding Design

Marsala is a color that continues to inspire, and we’ve never seen it look so good as it does paired with copper in today’s styled shoot. Kai Heeringa Photography, Ideal Events & Design, and Damsel Floral Co. created a styled wedding that brings together both traditional romance and also modern design ideas for a look that’s truly captivating.

modern romantic wedding ideas with marsala - photo by Kai Heeringa Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-romantic-wedding-ideas-with-marsala

From the event designer, Rebecca of Ideal Events & Design: Inspiration for this shoot came initially from the Pantone Color of the Year, marsala. This color choice has been the subject of many heated blog posts and designer discussions! When I first heard the color choice, I was taken aback, feeling like many that it seemed dated. However, whenever a color of the year is announced, we always see it used as varied shades through the design world and no one can argue that shades of maroon, burgundy, and fig have been used more often lately. So I chose to use a variation of marsala as an accent in a wedding designed to take place between the transitioning of seasons from winter to spring. Icy gray linens with lots of candlelight, thick oriental rugs, and a cocktail station are a nod to warm winter nights by the fire, while blush pinks, lots of greenery, and tulips hint of the spring to come.

Bouquet recipe: Kaci of Damsel Floral put together the loveliest floral arrangements, starting with an amazing bridal bouquet of ranunculus, veronica, tulips, roses, protea, and campsis. The trailing ribbons were the final touch that made me fall head over heels for the bouquet.

The icy gray linens from Special Occasions West set off the perfect amount of shimmer and the fig napkins matched the place card envelopes perfectly. These envelopes, beautifully calligraphed by Emilie of Lief Design, contained the evening’s menu card. A simple but dramatic touch to add on each place setting. The table runner of eucalyptus smelled amazing and only needed a collection of candlesticks from Events by I.Candy to be completed.

Our bride and groom, both ballet dancers, were a stunning couple. The bride was dressed in a lace Rosa Clara gown from Renee Austin Wedding. This classically beautiful dress needed no other adornment, especially with the romantic hairstyle and gorgeous makeup from Whitney and Sarah at Brindle & Blonde. And yes, that is all the model’s real hair! The groom was outfitted in a classic suit from AK Rikk’s. My favorite detail of his outfit was the small blue pin on his lapel. The Studio at AK Rikk’s is an amazing space – with both modern and classic elements, so many weddings and events would work perfectly here. The moulding makes the walls anything but basic and natural light streams in through a wall of windows. Every detail was captured beautifully by Kai Heeringa Photography. The invitation suite, with shades of blush pink and fig, was designed by Ideal Events & Design and addressed in the most gorgeous calligraphy from Lief Design.

Sweet Indoor Garden Wedding at Horticulture Center

Blue Label, Garden Weddings

Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park Horticulture Center is undoubtedly one of our favorite venues, and we love it even more when adorned with the talents of Brae Howard Photography, Petals Lane, and Lauren James Events. Alysa and Dan’s indoor garden wedding was built around the beauty of their venue, and once you see how gorgeous this space is, you’ll know how much of a wise decision it was!

sweet indoor garden wedding - photo by Brae Howard Photography http://ruffledblog.com/sophistication-and-elegance-at-horticulture-center

From the bride, Alysa: We wanted our wedding to feel warm, sophisticated, and easygoing! We didn’t really have a theme. Once I picked the fabric and color (“sea mist”) of the bridesmaids’ dresses, we sort of just went from there, and crossed our fingers that everything would coordinate! The Horticulture Center speaks for itself — our aim was just to accentuate its loveliness.

From the photographer, Brae Howard: Alysa and Dan were married at the Fairmount Park Horticultural Center in Philadelphia. Alysa was such a graceful and gracious bride and it was evident how in love these two were. We loved Alysa’s stunning and sleek wedding gown and it was a delight to photograph such a diverse group of women in her bridal party. One cute DIY aspect of Alysa’s wedding is that her little sister made their wedding cake!

Monochromatic Bride Flower Guide

Flower Guide

Photos by:

We’re super excited to share today’s shoot with you, put together by the wonderful Amy Nicole Photography and Violet Floral Design. This duo dreamed up a few different bridesmaid looks in monochrome palettes — a pink, a purple, and a green — with makeup, hair, and flowers to complement each one. While these are great ideas for bridesmaids, we also love that they’d work perfectly for a bride who’s open to some fun color for her own wedding look!

From the photographer, Amy Nicole Photography: Tricia Egan of Violet Floral Design and I envisioned a monochromatic shoot with three different color families to inspire some different bridesmaid looks + styles + approaches. We chose the color families Green shades, Purple shades and Peach/Pink shades and then selected a bridesmaid dress, hair and makeup looks, fresh florals, and hand painted canvas backgrounds (by us!) that all kept within each color family. Each model has a different style; Boho, Preppy and Vintage. See below for the details from each color.

Bouquet Recipe: Peonies, Garden Roses, Poppies, Ranunculus.
Our Preppy Peach bridesmaid wore a Posy by Kirribilla gown in the style “Willa.” Her hair was done in a classic chic french twist with a fresh peony garnish, she wore Stella and Dot jewels, and she had fizzy peach cheeks, bright eye color and a light coral lip.

Gold Glam Vineyard Wedding in Virginia

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

A Muse Photography

A romantic vineyard wedding is always a show stopper and this gorgeous event from A Muse Photography and Amore Events by Cody will blow you away. With a dreamy backdrop and glamorous gold accents, sweet couple Liz and Zach’s wedding was a memorable affair.

gold glam vineyard wedding in Virginia - photo by A Muse Photography http://ruffledblog.com/gold-glam-vineyard-wedding-in-virginia

From the bride, Liz: Even though I’m a designer and like to think I’ve got a great sense of style and vision…I’m probably among the most indecisive people on earth… so to be honest- I didn’t really have a clear vision of the feel we were trying to create. There are SO many different ways you can go style wise and that’s where our wedding planner with amazing vision and taste came in. It was really helpful to have somebody understand what I was going for on a more broad level and to then help me pull all of my little details together in the end to create one cohesive beautiful look.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My number 1 piece of advice is to hire a wedding planner and number 2 is to try to find room in your budget for a videographer. Our wedding video is one of my most cherished things from our wedding day. Obviously the pictures are an amazing keepsake but the whole day felt so surreal so to be able to go back and see and hear everything is priceless to us! And lastly, just try not to sweat the small stuff! Being engaged and wedding planning should be fun so just think big picture and try to keep calm and carry on!

South African Wedding with a Glam Gown

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

dna photographers

We wholeheartedly agree with today’s bride, Chrisli, who says that simplicity can still be exciting as long as it’s well-executed. If you need some convincing, just take a look at her wedding! South African wedding professionals dna photographers, AnnaH, and Fleur Le Cordeur helped Chrisli and Matt find their true wedding potential

South African wedding with a glam gown - photo by dna photographers http://ruffledblog.com/south-african-wedding-with-a-glam-gown

From the bride, Chrisli: We wanted something sophisticated, but still young, fresh and out of the ordinary. We believe less is more if it’s well executed – and there’s always space to add a touch of your own personality. Let’s just say we went for ‘red carpet’, not fairytale!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? 1. Don’t get lost in the detail – remember the main reason for the day (if you end up marrying the love of your life, everything went according to plan!) 2. Hire a wedding planner (they save you many hours, tears and frustration…and most likely money too) 3. Download a To-Do list app (like Wunderlist) to keep track of everything that needs to be done.

Bohemian Forest Wedding Editorial in Maui

Wedding Design

If Maui wasn’t on your list of travel destinations before, it will be now. Danielle Poff Photography and Maui’s Angels put together this styled shoot that’s as much of a breath of fresh air as it is inspiring for all you boho lovers out there. Make sure you keep your eyes peeled for one incredible floral crown, as well as the breathtaking jewel-toned bouquet with oversized flowers!

From the event designer, Lorrie of Maui’s Angels: We have been dying to do a shoot with the ever so talented Sunya’s flowers and after months and months of trying the stars sure did align. And oh my how they aligned perfectly with Danielle Poff Photography who graced our presence while here on our beautiful island. The theme was more that of an organic bohemian elegance so what better way to embrace this than shooting our gorgeous model, clad in a customized Joelle Perry masterpiece, in the lush forest at the Honolua Bay Reserve?

The tablescape created was fit for a queen and adorned with hand picked vintage pieces from Sunya’s very own collection along with a multi-hued palette of deep jewel toned flowers. We enlisted the delectable talents of Cake Fanatics who created the mini naked cakes and chocolate covered desserts. And the masterfully crafted flower hair halo styled perfectly by Satin and Sand Maui? Marvelous! Thank you again to all of our amazing vendors for coming out to play in the forest with us. I will keep this one close to my heart!

Bohemian Garden Wedding with Color

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Alexandra Wallace

It’s always a good day when we get to surround ourselves with so much color, as you’ll see in this styled shoot from Alexandra Wallace and Eden Floral. With some of the most incredible flowers Arroyo Grande has to offer, the duo painted a bohemian garden scene that has our hearts racing. No detail went unobserved, right down to the picture-perfect Sarah Janks gown and the show-stopped stained glass wedding cake from The Cake Cathedral.

From the event designer, Janet of Sandcastle Celebrations: The inspiration for our rustic, glam, boho shoot was a rich jewel tone wedding with glamorous elements. The stunning oaks that dot the property of The Casitas Estate provided the natural backdrop. Silk lanterns hung at various heights suggested the ambiance of an outdoor room. The gold sequin table runner and gold mosaic floral vessel added a touch of bling to the table. A rustic table with gold chiavari chairs and a velvet bench provided the seating.

A fabulous team of professionals worked to create this beautiful shoot. The styling was designed by Janet from Sandcastle Celebrations. Rachael, owner of Eden Floral, added a vibrant mix of conventionally grown and wildflowers to the cascading bridal bouquet and tablescape. Rachael is well known for her gorgeous floral crowns. Jenny, owner of The Cake Cathedral, is a true artist. She created a magnificent stained glass cake that echoed the theme. The very talented Alexandra Wallace captured all the stunning images. Every aspect of this inspiration shoot was designed and executed by an incredibly talented team.

Louisiana Backyard Wedding

Romantic Weddings

There are less than two weeks of summer left, but we can’t think of a better way to bid adieu to the warm and colorful season than with this wedding from Cassidy Carson Photography. Allyson and Heath’s big day was a match made in citrus tone heaven, with the most gorgeous pinks, yellows, and oranges as far as the eye can see thanks to the styling and floral arrangements from Debbie Ahrens Designs and Flowerbox Design. Let’s jump in:

Louisiana backyard wedding - photo by Cassidy Carson Photography http://ruffledblog.com/louisiana-backyard-wedding

From the bride, Allyson: In 2010 Heath and I met at a small Christian college in Louisiana. He was THE guy to date at our small college and what the heck would he see in me to choose me from all the other ladies. Finally after I went on a 2 week trip out of the country Heath finally came around and opened his eyes to how hard I had been trying to gain his attention and how head over heels I was for him. The Spring of 2012 he asked me to be his girlfriend. 2 years later we were hitched. Ever since I was a little girl I had always said I was going to get married at my parents’ house. Heath knew that was a dream of mine, but since my oldest sister was married there the summer of 2013, I let my pride have the best of me and decided I could NOT get married in the same place. So since Heath knew how dear and special the place was to me he decided he would propose there instead. 2 weeks after the proposal I couldn’t decide on a location and my mom finally talked some sense into me, (it helps that she is super creative and can envision just about anything) and we decided June 14, 2014 would only be perfect and exactly what we were wanting in my parents front yard.

Flower recipe: My florist was by far the BEST. I showed Lacey a few pictures and ideas that I wanted, very big and whimsical and boy did she give me waaaayyyy more than I envisioned. She used peonies, tulips, hydrangeas, ranunculus, garden roses, cabbage roses, and lots of others. To add a special touch to the bouquets we had the girls’ initials monogrammed on ribbons and tied them around the bottom.

Deciding on wedding details and big things was such a hard thing for me, but what can I say, I had been waiting for this day since I can’t even remember. My mom would buy me wedding magazines for my 12th birthday… 10 years later my dreams were finally becoming reality. I knew I wanted all things to be timeless, classy, southern, and FUN. I wanted a bright, fun, loving summer wedding. A lot of my inspiration came from J. Crew, wedding blogs, and other fun photographers. I chose to go with yellow, orange, and all shades of pink. I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses, and the men wore khaki dress pants with chambray ties. Flowerbox Designs did an impeccable job and Debbie Ahrens Design, between the two of them, they made all my dreams come true. We also decided to plant a tree during our ceremony. It was something different we could do to literally watch grow as we grow in our relationship and marriage over the years. In Exodus, when God parted the Red Sea he told the people to build an alter to remember the promise he made with them. We wanted to have something we could always look back on and see the exact spot where we made our commitment with each other and God.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It doesn’t have to be stressful. Make the best, wisest decisions that fit your budget, and get what you want within that. Something that held me back so often with making decisions was if everyone else was going to like what I had chosen and mostly the other women. But the reality of it is, all brides think their wedding is and was the best. And you know what, I was going to think the same about mine, and I do. So brides, DO WHAT YOU WANT. Also, try to include the groom in some decisions. His suit, his cake, first dance song, ceremony events. Heath loved getting to be a part of some of the sweet moments.

Fallingwater Barn Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Veronica Varos

Few homes in America are more iconic than Frank Lloyd Wright’s Fallingwater, so when we saw this beautiful wedding hosted in the nearby barn, we couldn’t wait to share it with you all! Veronica Varos Photography captured Mary and James’ wedding day, which was simple and rustic yet impactful and vibrant.

Fallingwater Barn wedding - photo by Veronica Varos http://ruffledblog.com/fallingwater-barn-wedding

From the bride, Mary: Our wedding was rustic and simple with a burst of color. We wanted to keep things simple, incorporating pieces we love (sheepskins, blue ball jars, basket from home that stored our programs) lots of lush leafy greens, and little details that were us.

Everything was created by us in some way, our save the dates, invitations, name cards and programs we’re designed by James himself, the tassel garland was made by Mary and her maid of honor/best friend Mallory, the twine / green table settings were made by the mother of the bride and Mallory’s mom. All flower arrangements including bouquets and boutonnieres were designed and arranged by the bride and her MOH.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Do what feels right and keep it simple! All the little things you think you wish you had a few days before the wedding, you’ll laugh at the day after and be glad you didn’t run those extra miles. All that matters is it’s your day — you saw all the people you love and you can now say you are married to your best friend.

Modern Turbine Hall Wedding

Modern Weddings

Throughout the years, one of the color palettes we’ll continue to love is grey and yellow. Somehow this mix always seems to conjure up a modern aesthetic, and that’s certainly the case for Mariè-Louise and Brad’s wedding photographed by the lovely Kikitography. Khali Collins of The Wedding Specialist was on hand to bring the couple’s vision to life, including every type of yellow bloom for a fresh tablescape setting!

From the bride, Mariè-Louise: When we began planning the many aspects of our special day, we looked to the internet for inspiration. We came across a lot of Vintage themed ideas, but didn’t fall in love with it. We decided to swap the trending country/vintage wedding for a JHB city center wedding with a lot of contrast Bright yellow tulips and soft candle light against the harsh but striking concrete and steel building where we had both the ceremony and reception. We wanted modern and fresh but more importantly, different! Daring, but it paid off in every way!

We did a JHB skyline theme throughout our stationery and decided to use famous JHB street names for table names in stead of numbers. Our color scheme was yellow and grey, ranging from charcoal to dove greys. Contrast was important to us and we wanted the day to truly reflect us – a city couple.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? There’s so much advise to give! Chief of which for us was to stay true to what we wanted. It is very easy to end up with someone else’s dream day, simply because suppliers don’t always listen to what the couple wants. There are so many ideas out there, going into a meeting with a planner not knowing what you want can sometimes lead to a couple walking out feeling completely overwhelmed and confused by it all. Make a list of things you are unwilling to compromise on, and another list that indicates what you are willing to be guided on in terms of different options available. It’s never an exact science, but it will help both parties if you have guidelines and pictures to work with. If you don’t like something, be honest. Don’t go along with it just because you feel you’ll be wasting someone’s time. You pay for it – you have to be happy with it! At the same time, accept that everything won’t be 100% on the day. Truth be told, it’s not about the ring, the dress, the flowers. It’s about your commitment to each other. No one will know if the cake should have been slightly to the left on the table, so don’t sweat the small stuff. Pick bridesmaids that you know won’t let you down. It’s important for you to feel you can leave things in their hands without having to check on them constantly. Sure, it’s nice to have all your friends up there with you, but my advice is to ditch the friends that you know have an unreliable streak. Leading up to the day you want to be able to delegate tasks that you just won’t have time for. Yes, you love your drama queen friend, but it’s your day – you don’t want to share the attention with anyone! This tactic saves money as well – less bridesmaids dresses to budget for!

Australian Polo Club Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

Lara Hotz

Prepare yourself, dear readers, because you’re about to have your socks knocked off by this wedding at one of our new favorite venues, Sydney Polo Club, photographed by none other than Lara Hotz. Jam-packed with color, poms, amazing flowers from The Sisters, and a dress to die for, we guarantee you won’t be able to make it through without smiling from ear to ear!

Australian Polo Club wedding - photo by Lara Hotz http://ruffledblog.com/australian-polo-club-wedding

From the couple, Gena and Tony: Our wedding was at the Sydney Polo Club, about an hour away from where we live. We wanted to have something a bit out of the ordinary (this can be hard with a big Jewish wedding but we knew we did not want a hotel reception room) and not expect people to have to travel too far. We had our ceremony and dance floor inside the barn on the farm and connected a marquee to the side where the guests were seated. The barn doors slid open to connect the two spaces. We wanted a relaxed feel while still observing the traditional side. We wanted it to be a little rustic, a little Mexican fiesta and a big colourful party. We didn’t have a colour scheme — rather every colour imaginable! If you would like a description it would have to be “a Mexican Fiesta in a barn.” We spent many hours making our own decorations, including: cutting & gluing 1200 coloured ribbons to make the chair decorations as well as emptying 60 cans of limited edition Andy Warhol Campbells soup cans to serve as flower holders for the table.

The first time Tony and I met, I wore a giant green crayon in my hair – it was a hairclip I had made at the time. We always refer to this moment and Tony says it was that crayon in my hair that caught his attention and thought, “Who is that girl with the green crayon.” I decided that as a surprise, I would make him, his groomsmen & his dad, a green crayon boutonniere. I made them out of resin and polished them so that they actually looked like a real shiny wax crayon. I then sent them to the florist with some brightly coloured baby pom poms and the result was amazing- the flower were perfect and the addition of the tiny pom poms tied in nicely with not only my head piece but the overall collection of colour and pom pom garlands around the barn. Not to forget the pom poms that were included in my bouquet!

The fabulous florists, ‘The Sisters’ created the most beautiful sculptural floral creations. I wanted to have a very low collection of flowers down the centre of the long tables as to not block off ones view. The florists did this beautifully and scattered the rest of my pom poms, a little bit of glitter confetti, candles and a few stems in bottles and Campbell soup cans to fill the space. We also decided to have some hanging flowers down the side of the marquee, as well as some floral garlands in the barn. It was all done so tastefully and I couldn’t have been happier. When I saw my bouquet on the morning of wedding I actually squealed with joy. It was perfect and contained every bold and bright flower I had wanted from chrysanthemums to tulips, dahlias and asters. Combined beautifully with the ribbons from the chair decorations tied into the bottom & some pom poms on wire popping out amongst the flowers. All in all, an explosion of colour, a fiesta of flowers!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t let the things you cannot control affect you! Like the rain! Often things end up being even more beautiful when you don’t plan it in your head. Although I had visualized walking out the barn and down the aisle onto the grass, having it inside because of the rain was truly gorgeous and intimate surrounded closely by everyone. The music was loud, the colourful ribbons and pom pom garlands were perfect set amongst the chandelier and together with chuppah (Jewish canopy under which we are married) it all resulted in a magical moment. Lastly, the day goes by so quickly so just take a deep breath and take in each moment as much as you can. All that planning, thinking, organising for your wedding day is part of the process too so enjoy the whole journey as much as you can. Try not to stress because its just one day and its a happy day. Just enjoy being in that beautiful dress, surrounded by your loved ones!

Wedding Music:
Our song was “Wait” by M83, a beautiful and tear jerking moment. It was so powerful and many people said it felt like a real live video clip. We chose not to have a first dance but rather we dedicated a song to my dad who passed away when I was younger. I have memories of him listening to “I Wonder” by Rodriguez and so we got the band to learn this song and invited everyone onto the dance floor to enjoy the moment together.

Lake Hodges Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Every year, as soon as the weather starts to warm up I develop an immediate attraction to the color orange. Luckily for me, this styled shoot from Salt Creative Co. and Michael and Kate Photography is chock full of heavenly orange tones, from the tulips to the kumquats used as cake decor.

Lake Hodges wedding inspiration - photo by Michael and Kate Photography http://ruffledblog.com/lake-hodges-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Evoke Event Design and Coordination: The idea for this shoot was born over coffee with Michael and Kate Auda of Michael and Kate Photography. We wanted to create something a natural yet still elegant with pops of color. They suggested Lake Hodges in Northern San Diego County as a location. It has such a wild Californian beauty to it. When we visited the site and saw the beautiful stand of eucalyptus trees, we knew the soft grayed green would be our color jumping off point. I have always wanted to do something inspired by California poppies, so orange was an easy second choice. The idea of using copper as a metal accent blended better with the orange accents then silver or gold would.

Once we had our inspiration I got to work on planning the table décor. I searched local antique stores for the green glass plates and mismatched clear etched glasses. I used oil paint pen to draw patterns on the plain linen napkins, making each one unique. Riffing on the idea of personal salt cellars I found these cute white spoons at Sur La Table and filled them with Hawaiian Alaea salt. To make the table numbers I used a stencil to cut the number from thin copper sheeting and then crumpled it to make it look more rustic. The amazing farm table is from Farm Tables and More who hand build all of their furniture rentals. The cross back bistro chairs add more of that elegant yet relaxed mood to the table.

All of the flowers came from the LA Flower Mart. Huge bunches of fresh kumquats were the base for the table flower box mixed with dusty miller, white ranunculus, orange tulips, and large baby’s breath. For the bouquet I wanted something large and free using the white ranunculus, orange tulips, eucalyptus, and large baby’s breath. The boutonniere was made from a single orange tulip and dusty miller leaf wrapped in copper.

For a ceremony location that is so natural and wild, bringing in décor that is too perfect sometimes stands out too much. The single hanging grapevine wreath with flower accents is the perfect frame for the bride and groom while also being cost effective (wreath and flowers together cost about $35!), natural and elegant. A burlap aisle runner painted with white flowers leads the way along simple wooden benches. For the cake, we were all in agreement that a naked cake would fit our theme the best. Kumquats were in season in April and they were the perfect accent to the beautiful cake made by Kate the photographer! Kate met the gals from Sable and Snow at an industry mixer, and when I saw their Vintage Garden invitation suite I knew it would be perfect. They customized the color scheme to match the shoot and added their fun and stylish hand lettering to the envelopes. The welcome bag was created with the color scheme in mind and includes local San Diego beer with yummy treats. It would be a perfect way to welcome out of town guests to a relaxing and fun wedding weekend.

The bride was styled to exude the vibe of the shoot. The leather belt and necklace add fun personal touches to her soft lace dress. The groom has a formal grey suit, but when the jacket comes off, the bow tie and suspenders signal that it’s time to let loose! We had such a fun time creating the DIY details of this shoot to give it a natural and authentic feel with a relaxed Californian vibe. Truly every aspect of this shoot was DIY and something that any bride or groom could re-create on their own. We wanted to highlight wedding ideas that had visual impact while still being fairly easy to accomplish.

Kaaterskill NY Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Lev Kuperman

“I’m not really sure the style of it… eclectic communal farmhouse boho chic? It was a giant love fest for sure, and that is what we wanted.” How could we possibly resist a wedding with a description this good? Kayti and Jake’s wedding is a perfect example of just how gorgeous eclecticism can be, especially when the talented Lev Kuperman is behind the camera.

Kaaterskill NY wedding - photo by Lev Kuperman http://ruffledblog.com/kaaterskill-ny-wedding

From the bride, Kayti: We really wanted a laid back, fun, outdoor weekend wedding celebration. One thing that was important to us was that it felt communal. We had a great venue where we had the run of the property for 3 days basically, so we wanted to use that. Everything we planned was outdoors, so we really wanted to incorporate that into the style. We were so excited about having our family and friends all together and wanted them to feel a part of the wedding. I’m not really sure the style of it… eclectic communal farmhouse boho chic? It was a giant love fest for sure, and that is what we wanted. A few groups went zip lining with me the day before the wedding while others were at the property hanging out and settling in. We had the meet-n-greet family style dinner on the property followed by a screening of “Dirty Dancing” in the barn. We had morning yoga in the barn the day of the wedding and then everyone stayed and helped set up. It was amazing ow much everyone gave. It blew me away and taught me to always give, give, give. Another example of how we included people was our wedding parties. We created new ones. We each had 3 “best people” that stood by our sides, and we had “people of honor” which was a larger group of about 20 people. The ladies wore white and the men wore chambray ties. They walked down the aisle but sat during the ceremony. We did this because we have a lot of important people in our lives. The three that stood by our sides were just right but we wanted to incorporate more and really honor how influential our friends and families have been in our relationship and our lives.

I basically took anything and everything I loved and threw it in the mix. My theme ended up being mishmash world traveler eclectic boho thrift store Americana? I love lots of colors and patterns and particularly love mixing colors and patterns, as well as clean white. I like to juxtapose and mix things up that don’t go. And I like to combine everything. Instead of one, why not two? I had 6 different save the date postcard styles, two different favor bags, 3 different table runner fabrics, etc. and it all worked! I love hot pink (I try not, but I can’t help it) so I threw that in wherever I could. There was denim, corals, blues, greens, purples, yellows… really a huge mix. I found a lot of the pieces in thrift shops, at garage sales, and online. As for DIY… almost everything was DIY! My mom made all the table runners. For the head table, we found this amazing Argentinian fabric on etsy. For the other tables, some were denim table runners and the others were a striped fabric. My mom made pocket squares for all the men and I embroidered their initials in them. The favors were DIY also. I ordered sage sticks and custom matches and tucked in a smashed penny into each sage stick. That was put into a muslin bag that was then stamped.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? 1. Hire a day of planner. Seriously. Everyone told me to, and I thought about it. Thought I had one (venue coordinator and day of coordinator are not the same thing!) I had tons of people who did help on the day. However, I had been planning this for a year. Everything was in my head. I couldn’t be everywhere at once and get ready to get married! 2. No one can prepare you for this. I don’t say that to scare anyone. I don’t say it negatively. But the rush, the day, the emotions, the whirlwind, the people, the schedule. It all happens so fast, is so amazing, and there is no real way to prepare for that. Take some time alone and take some time with your partner on the day. And also, try try try to say hello to each guest. It’s harder than you think. 3. Ladies… eyelash extensions. They changed my life for 1 week. I got them 3 days before my wedding. You wake up looking amazing. Every day. And for the wedding day… insane. I highly recommend it. 4. Remember what it is all about — you and your partner coming together and starting a life. It is all about love. You will fight. It will get stressful. But find beauty in it and really be in the moments. Try not to get sucked into pinterest. Take some time with your partner that is “wedding free” time. 5. Take a honeymoon, mini moon, or a weekend away right after. Immediately after. Just do it. 6. Break the rules. Do what makes sense for you and your partner. Honor family and traditions, but if you want to do something a little different, do it! And make the ceremony part meaningful. That doesn’t mean it has to be really long, but it is such an important part! We had readings, a song… our friend and a rabbi both officiated. We wrote our own vows… put meaning into that part. It can get overlooked. 7. Love love love love love… and breathe.

We had a fantastic DJ, but my husband is also very into music so he put together a very extensive list and handed it off to the DJ. It was very 60s surf rock, sexy soul, kind of funky in there.

Flanagan Farm Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Emily Delamater

I’ve always had a soft spot for Maine, and I think this wedding will help explain why. Luckily for Carolyn and Mike, the weather behaved itself and opened up the skies for an exceptionally beautiful day put together by A Family Affair of Maine with flowers from Snell Family Farm. Emily Delamater‘s stunning work shines through as always!

From the bride, Carolyn: We live in Maine and wanted to show our beautiful state to all our guests. We loved the open fields and beautiful barn at Flanagan Farm. Hosting a wedding in Maine in May is a little risky, but after a dark and rainy morning, the skies cleared and the sun shone brightly the rest of the afternoon! Most importantly, we wanted our wedding to be an evening of celebration and fun for all our loved ones.

Bouquet recipe: Roses, tulips, anemones, ranunculus, and other romantic flowers. Peach was the emphasis with touches of gold, blush, pink, and lots of creamy white. Lush greenery and lots of texture.

Our wedding was happy, loving, and joyous. In truth, we were a little overwhelmed by themes and colors, but had much help from the incredible Paula Cano at A Family Affair along the way. She helped us create a comfortable, graceful and elegant day.

Spring Neon Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

As soon as we heard the team of Alexis June Weddings, Attention 2 Detail Events, and Merit & Vine was collaborating on a spring neon wedding inspiration shoot, we knew we were in for a treat — and how right we were! Prepare yourself for some major pops of color that are making us glad it’s our favorite season of the year.

From the event stylist, Ashley of Attention 2 Detail Events: For this inspiration shoot I wanted to show couples a way to incorporate bright neon colors into their wedding design without having to take the whole “neon trend” overboard. You can still have a polished wedding that still has a fun vibe! The stationery suite was created using geometric designs to bring a modern and playful feel to the finished product. The invitation was a diamond shape and hinged with 3 separate sections, to create an experience for guests when opening them. The velum envelopes gave guests a peek of what was inside before it was opened! The same motif was used for the escort cards and menus as well.

I created a geometric string art display to showcase the escort cards. The black string used really helped the cards stand out against the pink backdrop! For the tablescape, I wanted to keep the linens neutral and bring in the pops of color in unexpected places, so I chose amazing green chairs! (When choosing chairs that are bright colors or styles, you don’t have to worry about accenting them with additional decor. Let the color do the talking!) I also created a custom light fixture by using an old wicker basket, flipping it over, and stringing a hanging bulb through it. A super simple way to bring some unique touches into your wedding!

I didn’t want to stick with a basic white linen, so I created a custom circle runner using fabric paint and stamping interlocking circles down the center of the linen. I really wanted to create a visual effect on the tables, even when a guest wasn’t standing directly in front of them, so I made sure to extend the pattern all the way down the sides too! Circular metal chargers added a pop of color against the white linen and I alternated between both black and bright blue entree and appetizer plates, on each place setting, which added a bit more fun on the table. Bright neon glasses in orange, pink, and green, brought a little bit more color to the table as well.

I used basic white napkins but customized them a bit by adding diagonal stripes on the ends. Another simple way to add some easy drama to your table by using fabric paint! I also loved the contrast of the hot pink napkin rings that I created using basic electrical wire. The centerpiece was stunning and by incorporating some bright florals with beautiful white blooms and greenery, it really made the colors stand out! Our fun table number was simple but so fun with a pop-up free standing design! Adding fresh lemon and lime to a carafe on the table for your guests is also a simple way to add a little more color to your tablescape, and it doesn’t hurt to add a bit of citrus flavor either! Licorice rockies, packaged in clear square boxes, were perfect as guest favors. The black licorice was filled with vanilla and strawberry cream and allowed guests to take a pop of neon home with them! I wanted to keep the cake very classic but still give it a modern touch. The same circular design, found throughout the event, was used for the cake layers. To keep things neutral, the cake was covered in white fondant and topped with white nonpareils and varying shades and sizes of white and off-white pearls. The cake was served on a black pedestal and placed on a metallic high table to give it more of a modern touch.

With the brightness of the table and event design, I wanted to keep our gorgeous bride very classic. She wore a high top knot and a stunning custom white mermaid gown, with custom beading throughout the entire bodice. The neon theme was brought to life with a pop of bright pink on her lips and her necklace gave her a modern touch. The groom wore a custom grey suit with a pop of pink in his boutonniere, and the bouquet was a combination of both bright and white florals that came to life against her white gown.

Tuckahoe Plantation Wedding

Rustic Weddings

To me, one of the best parts of spring is seeing brides introduce aqua into their color palettes. Has there ever been a happier color? Shelley and Bryan sought a joyful wedding at Richmond’s Tuckahoe Plantation, where they brought along Emily March Photography and Your Day, Your Way Weddings and Events to make their wedding day everything they’d dreamed of and so much more.

From the bride, Shelley: Since Bryan and I had dated mostly long distance, I wanted our guests to know us better as a couple after attending our wedding and to feel at home. We wanted the whole day to be full of joy! More than anything we wanted our wedding and our marriage to reflect the Gospel – the unrelenting love our Heavenly Father has for his underserving people. We wanted our marriage to be rooted in the love of Christ and that to be made known on our wedding day. Our venue really set the theme for our wedding. Tuckahoe Plantation is the boyhood home of Thomas Jefferson. I am a direct descendant of good ol’ TJ so we knew it would be the perfect fit! It is just outside of our hometown of Richmond. The plantation is secluded, with a gorgeous plantation house and beautiful gardens.

Flower recipe: My bouquet had tulips, peonies and roses and some greenery! We had some flowers at the ceremony on the arboretum with spider mums, peach carnations with fern, pittosporum, Italian ruscus and larkspur tucked into trailing greenery. The flower arrangement for the tables including some tulips, carnations, wildflowers and greenery in mason jars.

The bridesmaids wore a mint/teal dress and the flowers were peach and pink! And wherever I could include a gold accent, I did! I love a little bit of glitter! My father-in-law built us the chalkboard where we listed the seating arrangements for the reception (my husband wrote all the names on the chalkboard!) and the shelves that included pictures from our childhood. We made our favors which were bookmarks with our favorite books. I also made our wooden table numbers–saw them on etsy and thought, ‘I could do that!’

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Soak it all in! I absolutely loved the whole wedding week! It was such a joyous celebration. I keep saying to my husband now, I just want to do it all over again – so simply enjoy it! I knew that some things were going to go wrong, but that nothing was going to take away front the overall JOY of the day. Every moment was so special and I did not want to leave at the end of the night! Oh and dance!! It is so easy to get caught up talking to guests (which is also important) but don’t forget to dance! I can’t help, but smile whenever I think of the dancing at our reception.

Mother/Son Dance: “You Are the Sunshine of My Life”

From the photographer, Emily March Photography: When I first met Shelley, we spent a solid two hours getting to know each other and talking about how excited she was to be Bryan’s wife. I left absolutely giddy to photograph her wedding and knowing that by the big day, Shelley would be a dear friend. I can’t play favorites, but I love this pair so much. Their wedding was stunning beyond all measure, from the plantation’s natural beauty to all those little jars overflowing with flowers to the tangible love expressed by family and friends throughout the day. I was in Heaven!
