Industrial Greenhouse Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Milton Photography

We love when modern and vintage cross paths. Contrasting ideas always make such cool, funky, and lively shoots and this one snapped by Milton Photography is no different! Kismet & Clover brought together these ideas through the look and feel of antiquated romance meets urban styling. To keep the lines minimal but to also add more greenery for the greenhouse feel, Chickweed Cottage brought in cool potted greens and succulents, which always modernize a space without going overboard. And it must be mentioned: any time copper is used, we always have to take a second and third look.

copper wedding ideas - photo by Milton Photography http://ruffledblog.com/industrial-greenhouse-wedding-ideas

From the event designer, Kismet & Clover: The inspiration for this wedding shoot came from wanting to draw upon the romantic feel of a greenhouse while balancing it with the urban feel of an industrial interior. We love the look of an old farmhouse potting shed, but wanted to modernize it by softening the rustic with clean modern lines, copper, metallic undertones, and soft textures.

Concertina Press

Sailboats, waves, octopus and jellyfish are just a few of the amazing seaworthy designs featured in Concertina Press’s line of vintage inspired nautical wedding invitations and stationery.

“Ruth is an exceptional artist and artisan! She was very prompt to stay in communication with me throughout my ordering process. She worked with me to make sure that all my needs were met exactly. It was so comforting to work with her through the stressful process of ordering the perfect wedding invitations! I absolutely LOVE the way her products turned out, and cannot wait to send them to all my guests! Thank you SO MUCH Ruth, your kindness and professionalism have helped me more than you know!” ” – Emily D.

After living in the small town of Woods Hole on Cape Cod for nearly 11 years, Ruth, the owner and designer of Concertina Press, moved down to the sunny East coast of Florida to be closer to family. Her Cape Cod map save the date is still widely popular with couples getting married on the Cape, along with the matching wedding invitation. Since moving south she’s added more tropical designs including seahorses, sand dollars and waves.

Ruth takes pride in customer service, and making the online ordering process as easy as possible while still remaining personalized. You can purchase samples of any of her invitations online, or contact her directly with any questions or for a quote.

Santa Barbara Estate Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Anna Delores

So, we just about lost it when we saw this bride’s incredible floral patterned wedding gown by Olvi’s. Not only does it fit Ann like a glove, but the pops of color are the perfect look for spring and put such a smile on our faces. Thank you to Anna Delores and Creations by Nupur for your work on this beautiful day!

wedding invitations - photo by Anna Delores Photography http://ruffledblog.com/santa-barbara-estate-wedding

From the bride, Ann: We were hoping to have a wedding using eclectic travel vernacular paired with a modern sensibility. Both my husband and I are drawn to modern aesthetics, but we wanted to express a timelessness through our love of travel. Our location was very modern, and our graphics melded modern herring bone patterns with old-style maps, and our flowers took on a more lush, eclectic look through traditional centerpieces paired with modern succulents. Because our guests were also traveling for the wedding, we wanted them to feel like they were joining us on a tropical weekend getaway. Our favorite weddings have been weekend-long events where guests meet and become friends over their shared experience, so we launched the party with a beach BBQ on Friday, wedding festivities and hotel poolside bonding on Saturday, and a Sunday farewell brunch. When it came to Sunday’s brunch, we repeatedly tried to introduce various friends and family members, whom already got to know each other quite well by weekend’s end – which we loved!

Spring Morning Inspired Wedding Ideas

If you’re a lover of nature like me, you won’t be able to resist this beautiful shoot from Kristen Weaver Photography, An Affair to Remember Weddings, and Bluegrass Chic. The tablescape alone is a complete showstopper, featuring a handcrafted table covered in moss and succulents and topped off with a glass cover for a unique look we’ve yet to see anywhere else. Top it off with exceptionally stunning bridal gowns from Hayley Paige and Sarah Seven and we’re smitten!

From Kristen Weaver Photography: In the early stages of planning, I felt inspired by pastel watercolors, succulents and earthy plants, and natural crystals. I developed this shoot concept as my final project to complete my internship with Kristen Weaver Photography. The table for this shoot was truly one-of-a-kind. The base was completely handcrafted. The inside layer between the glass and base included a Moroccan-esque tile table runner, and was filled with an array of succulents and mossy greens.

Nordic Inspired Woodland Wedding

Wedding Design

Photos by:

LV Imagery

Today’s styled shoot was inspired by the event designer’s trip to Iceland, and the Nordic inspiration just flowed from there. A modern bohemian tablescape, a cable-knit sweater cake, and plenty of candles and birch wood accents all shared the spotlight with a beautiful couple and a sweet pup named Zeus. LV Imagery and Blush + Bowties did absolutely stunning work here!

Nordic inspired woodland wedding - photo by LV Imagery http://ruffledblog.com/nordic-inspired-woodland-wedding

From the event designer, Blush + Bowties: It’s not often one hopes for grey skies, but on the day of our shoot, we were praying for overcast weather. As luck would have it, Mother Nature was on our side and delivered an incredibly atmospheric backdrop for our Nordic Woodland creative shoot. Three years ago I spent a week in Iceland for my honeymoon. It was an unexpectedly enchanting trip. The landscape was like nothing I had ever seen — mysterious, stark, and hauntingly beautiful. Since visiting, I have been dreaming up a shoot with Nordic design and a woodland twist.

The models/actors for the day, James and Annika, playing the roles of our Nordic couple Eiric and Asta, could not have been more of a pleasure to work with. The blond, blued-eyed beauties captured the story of our bride and groom. Hair and makeup artist Angela McQueen brought out the natural beauty of our bride for the day and finished her look with an ethereal braided crown. Renna Reddie, of Get Reddie, provided the cozy and whimsical attire for our couple, which reflected the feel for which we aspired.

Leslie, from Warehouse 84, who supplied the props and furniture for the shoot, generously offered up her private home set on several acres of land for the shoot. A wooden arbour adorned with a lush woodland garland, created by florist Jen Pogue, was the ideal home for our deer skull (nicknamed Ned). Birch stumps with drip candles and terrariums completed our ceremony set up. A cozy cable-knit sweater cake and copper cake, designed by Le Dolci, perched perfectly atop our wood plank table and antique ladder. We stayed simple with the table and chairs as a nod to the minimalist Nordic style. A garland cascaded across the table and onto sheepskin rugs. A lush berry-toned centrepiece and antlers were woven beautifully into the tablescape, which also included geometric terrariums, organic shaped plates set on wood chargers, gold flatware, and copper mugs. Custom-designed menus with a subtle geometric pattern and place cards were provided by Paper and Poste.

On site was a forest, where we placed our cozy lounge for the couple. A masculine leather couch grounded the space and was draped with furs and patterned pillows. As we lit the flame on the candles, the true romance of the scene came alive. One of my favourite moments of the day was when Zeus, Leslie’s dog, made a surprise cameo in the shoot and was quickly adopted by our couple for the duration of the day. Celebrating the bare but enchanting landscape, understated Nordic style, and raw woodland design was a superlatively satisfying endeavour. Lauren from LV Imagery beautifully captured the allure of the scene, and I am so happy to share the photos with you.

Beautiful Tulum Destination Wedding

Beach Weddings

Let’s take a little visit down to Tulum, Mexico for the wedding of Natalie and Daniel, shall we? The beautiful couple wanted their big day to feel like not just a wedding but also a vacation in itself, so a destination trip was a must-have. Add on the talents of Nicole Berrett Photography and Destination Weddings Tulum, and you’ve got this stunning wedding to remember!

beautiful Tulum destination wedding - photo by Nicole Berrett Photography http://ruffledblog.com/beautiful-tulum-destination-wedding

From the bride, Natalie: On our wedding day we envisioned a very relaxed atmosphere where our guests mostly felt as though they were on vacation and there happened to also be a good friend’s wedding happening at the same time. Over the years, Daniel and I attended many weddings and throughout those experiences we were really able to hone in on what was important to us. We concluded that our focus for our wedding was for it to be intimate, stress-free, and memorable.

I really did not focus on a particular color scheme; I wanted the elements of our wedding to complement the essence of Tulum. On one side, you have the beautiful blues of the ocean and right across the road there is a dense and enchanting jungle full of gorgeous greenery. I really wanted to use natural tones that would reflect the myriad of colors in Tulum.

I work for a Marketing and Promotional Products company so I took care of designing and ordering all of my own welcome bags, koozies, and even hand held flashlights imprinted with our hashtag (Tulum gets dark at night!). What Daniel and I had not originally planned for was to give out gifts to our guests at the wedding. On the day of the wedding to my utter delight, I found out that my wonderful and thoughtful Mom had contacted the owner of my company to create beautiful glass sand globes that were customized with our Names, wedding date and photos for our guests to always remember the occasion.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Ultimately and above ALL else, do what YOU want to do for your wedding. Go with your heart! We saw the big picture early on as to how we wanted the weekend to go, and from there we simply had to cultivate the details. If both the bride and groom’s mindsets are in line, everything will fall into place as it should. Enjoy each and every moment of the planning phase and the day, because it is over in a blink of an eye. Try to take in as many moments as you possibly can!

A seemingly odd choice, but I chose “(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You’ve Been Gone,” Aretha Franklin for my dance with my Dad. This is a song that he has sung over the years since I was a little girl and it was sentimental to me. Plus, it’s upbeat and we wanted to get the party started! We danced to the beginning and then Daniel and his mother came in too!

Romantic Old Souls Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

onelove photography

The Villa San Juan Capistrano is truly one of the most beautiful venues out there. It’s got a bit of Old World charm to it, which just so happens to be perfect for KC and Andrew and their wedding! onelove photography captured the whole day behind the lens while Growing Grace Floral Design created floral arrangements that are nothing short of stunning.

romantic old souls wedding - photo by Onelove Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-old-souls-wedding

From the bride, KC: The wedding vision that we came up with as a couple represented us because the venue we chose was intimate, romantic and timeless. We wanted our wedding to be a comfortable setting for our family and guests that we don’t get to see too frequently. We are both pretty easy going people, and have both often been told that we have “old souls” which is why we both liked the idea of the design feeling rustic with lots of wood, greenery and pops of coppery metallic pieces.

It was important to us that all of the people that were able to come that day feel appreciated as their presence was what we valued most. That’s what comes to mind when thinking about why we chose such a wide variety of desserts, so there could be a little bit of something for everyone. Why we chose the Photo Booth company that we did, because we wanted our guests to have a good time. It is also why myself and one of my bridesmaids hand made all of our wedding favors, because we were hoping that all our loved ones would feel the thanks we have for them and how they contributed to our lives and the people we are today.

A lot of the design was brought to life by KC’s step-mom Rebecca and her friend Kerry. They spent countless hours coming up with ideas to make the day unique. There was a moss covered “L” to represent our married last name “Lang” that was created by Kerry and attached to a vintage gate that Rebecca had found out an antique shop. The containers for the centerpieces are something that KC was particularly found of. She wanted to have wooden planters mixed with lanterns, but to use the lanterns as another terreriums. Michelle with Growing Grace Floral Design did an amazing job of making the centerpieces flow together almost like a runner down each of the guest tables. One nostalgic contribution used for the pictures that was parked out front of the venue, was KC’s grandfather’s 1931 Ford Model A. It was restored by her grandpa and will be kept in the Aman family for generations to come. It was lovely to have that additional vintage touch in photos that day.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Planning a wedding is much more detail oriented than we could have ever imagined. We had over a year to plan and still were down to the wire only a week or so before the wedding finalizing details. My biggest advice would be to be sure to reserve the venue as soon as possible, then work on what you want your wedding to feel like and hone in on that for details. We wrote our own vows, which was lovely but I wish we had made more time to memorize them that day. On the day of, all of the time and effort spent to make the day come together will seem like it went by so quickly. So be sure to take it all in, enjoy every minute of the whole day and remember you’re starting life’s journey with the person you love most in the entire world.

Earthy Industrial Bohemian Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Folks, this next shoot is just about as cool as it gets. The all-star team — which includes talented vendors such as Monika Gauthier Photography & Design, Glitz Events, Tufted Vintage Rentals, Florist Fire, and Citrus Press Co, just to name a few — put together a delectably textured shoot inspired by nature and bohemian styling. This is one you won’t want to miss!

earthy industrial bohemian wedding inspiration - photo by Monika Gauthier Photography http://ruffledblog.com/earthy-industrial-bohemian-wedding-inspiration

From Tufted Vintage Rentals: This editorial was designed to encapsulate our organic interpretation of the bohemian style. Conceptualized by Glitz Events, Tufted Vintage Rentals and Citrus Press Co, we focused on a natural, earthy aesthetic and the healing powers of metaphysical elements to create a neutral, yet moody shoot with some edgier moments throughout. Inspired by materials from nature, our team sought to feature soft textures of macramé, lace and wool juxtaposed with raw, earthy elements of wood, stones and crystals.

The raw backdrop of the Rialto theatre, a 1920s theatre with original exposed brick walls and one stellar arch, was the perfect setting. We even incorporated industrial letters from the buildings original signage. Floral arrangements focused on neutral toned flowers paired with earthy and natural elements such as fungi pods and air plants mixed with greenery including seeded eucalyptus and plumose for texture. Air plant terrariums with gemstone accents were sprinkled throughout the shoot. The bouquet featured one large tillandsia air plant with dried fungi, greenery and dusty miller.

When creating the tablescape we layered textures of lace with fringe placemats and paired the soft elements with warm wood tones and edgy black accents. Air plants, greenery, wheat and cattails were arranged in mismatched clear glass vessels. We decided to use mismatched flatware in mixed tones of silver, wood and gold. Pieces of agate and stone place card holders tied in our rock and crystal theme. Wicker and wood chairs warmed up the sterile feel of the industrial chairs. Unique aspects of our editorial include the ode to metaphysical healing powers. We created a favor station featuring healing crystals that complimented our color scheme. We also incorporated incense as well as a sage smudge, which is an ancient practice used to attract positive energy. To take advantage of Rialto’s expansive space and cozy corners, we created a ceremony with a hand-made macramé backdrop as well as a lounge to showcase unique vintage pieces in wicker and Mexican equipales chairs.

Backyard Garden Wedding in San Diego

Romantic Weddings

When is it ever not a good day for a garden wedding? This gorgeous event was put together by the bride and her ever-so-talented planners/designers Amorology and Devynn’s Garden in control of floral design, and it was up to Jeremy Chou Photography to capture everything for a lifetime of memories. Everything was a raving success, as you’ll see from these images!

From the bride, Corrie: I grew up in the country and I envisioned a romantic and soft look with a old California feel. We chose our venue because it was how I envisioned California during the days of the missions and farmers. I have a childhood memory of my mom’s rose garden mixing in with native California succulents. I wanted my wedding to have that childhood memory. I also wanted to incorporate orange, blue, yellow and pink mixed with succulents and wood because I think the soft colors compliant the darker colors of the wood and succulents. All of my mason jars filled with sand were assembled by myself.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I tried to be economical and plan and design my wedding myself and I relied heavily on Pinterest and Etsy. My advice for working professionals is to just hire a wedding coordinator. I worked with Amorology for the last 30 days and they had great advice and unfortunately I discovered they could have found better deals for me on decor and vendors.

Contemporary La Jolla Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

When you’ve got a bride who’s heavily engrossed in the art world, it’s a safe bet her wedding is going to be a thing of beauty. Such is the case with this lovely day from Jacqueline Schlossman / READYLUCK, HauteFêtes Fine Weddings & Events, and The Dainty Lion. There was no shortage of modern decor and jewel toned accents, all coming together for a look that’s fresh and stylish.

contemporary La Jolla wedding - photo by Jacqueline Schlossman for Readyluck http://ruffledblog.com/contemporary-la-jolla-wedding

From the event designers, HauteFêtes Fine Weddings & Events: Nicole and Davey are probably the most low maintenance couple I’ve ever worked with. When we met, their only request was to help create a colorful, contemporary wedding, filled with purples, oranges and pinks. It’s not surprising given their background. Nicole’s family is from England and heavily involved in the La Jolla, CA art world – Nicole owns an art gallery; her mother, Margaret Jackson, is an avid art collector and serves on the Board of the Museum of Contemporary Art in La Jolla; and, her father owns Cavallo Vintage Motorsports. Getting to work with such an artistic family as well as so many different gem-tones was brilliant, and really inspired the rest of the décor for their wedding.

Being right on the Pacific ocean, the couple wanted to make sure their guests could enjoy the beautiful view and get a real sense of the breathtaking downtown La Jolla (aptly named since it means ‘jewel’ in Spanish). The ceremony was held at St. James by the Sea and the 300+ person reception followed at the La Jolla Country Club. While the Club has beautiful Spanish bones, we wanted to offset the more traditional feel. So, we created a modern vibe through custom Osborne & Little table runners, black and white La Tavola linens accented with gold sequins, bright pops of floral, specialty Casa de Perrin flatware, brightly colored butterfly name cards at each of the place settings, and a family-style food service, all while paying homage to the character of the venue with vintage wood tables and mirrors.

Following dinner, we laid out the spectacular display of Michele Coulon sweet treats – each bonbon a little jewel itself! And finally, guests bid the couple goodbye with sparklers as Nicole and Davey sped away in their sky blue vintage Aston Martin getaway car. Color was infused all throughout the decor and kept the space feeling light and bright. With so many people in attendance, the colorful palette also helped to keep the event wonderfully intimate and fun. Being a part of this wedding was so special, and getting to witness the love that these two have for each other and their families, was so meaningful. Their personalities were spotlighted throughout, my favorite being the illuminated “LOVE” marquee sign on the mantelpiece above the head table, which for me added the cherry on top of this perfectly, colorful day!

Modern Black and White Wedding with Emerald

Modern Weddings

Any couple who describes their wedding theme as “Kate Spade met The Wicked Witch of the West” has already garnered my attention and adoration, and this wedding did not disappoint. Sarah Libby Photography, Everything Beautiful OKC, and Leigh and Louise Design came together to work on Avery and Michael’s modern wedding with a clean color palette of black, white, gold, and green, with a bit of burgundy in the floral arrangements for good measure.

From the bride, Avery: I would describe our wedding style as Kate Spade meets Boho chic. If Kate Spade fell into a forest, that’s the feel we were going for. Somehow our end phrase became Kate Spade met The Wicked Witch of the West.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t follow protocol. Just because that’s the way it’s always been done doesn’t mean that’s how it has to be. Make it your own and then own it. Secondly, take a moment to take it all in, it. Thirdly, don’t pay $1,000 for your veil. A full cathedral veil with a blusher cost us $18.00.

From the photographer, Sarah Libby Photography:
Michael and Avery were married this fall with a modern, fresh, and fun vibe. Avery stunned in her long sleeve plunging neck gown by Madison James from Beloved Bridal and Michael could not stop looking at her. Michael surprised her with her grandmother’s ring to wear as her wedding band and the tears flowed. The bridesmaids wore bold emerald Badgley MIschka gowns and the groomsmen wore a classic tux. They were married at sunset overlooking the Oklahoma farmlands. They chose bold tablecloths to fancy up their reception space and chose a non-traditional cake table filled with fancy donuts and cookies. They also had specialty pizza’s prepared for all of their guests from their favorite pizza place. They had a confetti entrance to their reception and partied with family and friends before their sparkler sendoff!

Willow Creek Winery Wedding

DIY Weddings

When a baker gets married, rest assured the dessert table is going to be a whopper. Bride Toni owns her own bake shop with her sister, and the two went all out designing sweet treats for her wedding to groom Josh. The entire day was a creative fall wedding to remember, with the help of the talented Jessica Hendrix Photography and Pocket Full of Posies.

Willow Creek Winery wedding - photo by Jessica Hendrix Photography http://ruffledblog.com/willow-creek-winery-wedding

From the bride, Toni: Our wedding took place at Willow Creek Winery in cape may New Jersey. Kevin Celli was our guide and planner and did an amazing job with helping us out in any way possible! For my wedding I imagined a rustic but colorful and creative vibe. It was fall, but I wanted to incorporate peacock blue/green with bright reds and oranges. Some gold accents. I did a lot of my own crafting, like stained crates handmade seating arrangements signage, etc.. I handmade my invitations and save the dates, at each setting. There was a clementine with a leaf cutout with hand gold embossed names!

One of the biggest things I did for the day was the wedding cakes and all the desserts! I own my own shop in Haddonfield, New Jersey called Sweet T’s Bakeshop. My sister and own the shop together and made a ton of desserts for my day! Two cakes including three different flavors: blood Orange velvet, sweet potato with spiced pears, and baked apple cinnamon dolce! We also made individual apple pies in mason jars, French macaroons with hand painted gold spiders (it was Nov. 1) mini pumpkin cheesecakes with ginger snaps crust and ice cream cookie sandwiches with homemade oatmeal raisin cookies and Bassetts pumpkin ice cream. We also had an array of vintage glass bottle and jars scattered everywhere in tables.

I was in love with my floral arrangements by Pocket Full of Posies in Galloway NJ. Beth Ann did a fabulous job! When my flowers arrived at my hotel suit while we were getting ready I was so so so excited and blown away! I had some succulents, orchids, eucalyptus, deep purple Calla lilies, blue thisle, red berries, and some really pretty bright orange and red needle looking flowers!! In love! Oh yeah, I also had sunflowers with the petals picked off! My table arrangements had turquoise lanterns and white lanterns scattered with candle and some of the antique bottles had a flower or two. There were also some blue mason jars with flowers.

Cultural Wedding at Korakia Pensione

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Erin J Saldana

Today’s couple knew there would be no better excuse to head back to their native California than their wedding day, so they packed their bags and celebrated with friends and family at the jaw-dropping venue Korakia Pensione Palm Springs. With Erin J Saldana capturing images, First Pick Planning in control of planning, and the bride’s sister Candice Benjamin taking on the floral design, it’s little wonder this day turned out as beautifully as it did!

cultural wedding at Korakia Pensione - photo by Erin J Saldana http://ruffledblog.com/cultural-wedding-at-korakia-pensione

From the bride, Ashley: We have been living in Louisiana for 2 years because my husband is in the Army, so we were definitely missing our native California. I knew Palm Springs would be the perfect location for a desert oasis themed wedding. We wanted it to be quirky, laid back, and fun with just a touch of luxury. When I saw Korakia Pensione I knew it would be perfect, and the general manager was so helpful and accommodating I was blown away. Our theme was desert oasis fiesta. I wanted to main colors to be coral and mint with metallic details to pop against that desert background, while also incorporating my husband’s Mexican heritage with the dancers, pinata, and dulces. That mix mash of cultures is what southern California is all about. I knew I wanted to go with a coral for my dress because the color was just amazing, and it felt good to be different. The day was about us celebrating our love with our friends and family, we didn’t want to worry about what was traditional or expected.

My friends and family came together to help us keep our budget low while still having a gorgeous wedding. My sister in law made the aguas frescas and bought the materials to make little signs. All of the centerpieces and bouquets were arranged and designed by my fabulous sister Candice Benjamin with help from my wedding coordinator Jen Bergmark. We went the morning before to the flower district in LA and they just let me go crazy picking out flowers that fit our theme and made my heart flutter. They spent all night piecing together these amazingly unique arrangements. Even the dancers were a high school group that my sister in law belonged to. They were amazing and completely affordable.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Remember when you’re planning that this day is about what the two of you want. Pick three adjectives that the two of you agree on, and when you’re making your decisions make sure that it applies to all three of those things. And don’t think that because you have a low budget that you have to go to a craft store and raid the cheesy wedding aisle. Get creative. If you’re not creative comb through your friends and family and see if anyone is willing to help out. It will make your wedding that much more meaningful.

Leo Carrillo Ranch Barbecue Wedding

Rustic Weddings

“Why don’t we have a wedding that feels like a family barbecue?” may be one of the best ideas we’ve ever heard — especially when that barbecue takes place at Leo Carrillo Ranch in California. Artistrie Co., wed (weddings.events.design.), and Moments in Bloom set to work photographing and designing Amanda and Wences’ wedding day, which was full of great things like over-sized “Love” beach balls floating in the pool, a variety of delicious cakes, and potted succulent favors for the guests.

From the bride, Amanda: We wanted our wedding to feel comfortable rather than formal. Being from Southern California family barbecues are a staple all year round for each of our families, they are weekend events where everyone gets together to catch up, eat good food, and enjoy each others’ company. So when it came to planning our wedding we thought, “Why don’t we have a wedding that feels like a family barbecue?”

Once we found Leo Carrillo Ranch we could immediately start seeing our wedding vision take shape. Since the site itself used to be actor Leo Carrillo’s home we are getting that literal feel of having a special event at a family member’s house. The site itself is everything that we love, from the hacienda style architecture to the canyon and natural wildlife that surrounds it. We knew that we did not need to do much to the site itself to make it beautiful, so it was going to be in the details that we chose that would make our wedding special and uniquely ours. Having oversized lawn games, a photo booth, and gourmet tacos are fun ways we thought could merge the backyard family barbecue feel into our wedding day.

Blush Pink Pennsylvania Farm Wedding

Rustic Weddings

This bride’s own words say it all: “We were intentional about having a meaningful, intimate ceremony surrounded by our closest friends and family followed by a super fun party.” Sarah and Ryan’s Pennsylvania wedding was utter perfection, with a focus on the guests and the couple’s love for each other. Big props to Brianna Wilbur Photography, Elizabeth Kate Events, and Petals with Style and all other vendors involved for a gorgeous day.

From the bride, Sarah: Since our wedding was held outside in beautiful Lancaster, Pennsylvania, we wanted our wedding’s style to be organic and natural. We were intentional about having a meaningful, intimate ceremony surrounded by our closest friends and family followed by a super fun party. We truly believe we got the best of both worlds!

Some adjectives that would describe the look of our wedding would be organic, ethereal, romantic, and fun. We didn’t have a concrete color scheme. I was all about natural, neutral colors with pops of color. The bouquets were filled with lots of greenery and bright flowers. The bridesmaids wore mismatched blush dresses and gold-toned jewelry and the groomsmen wore navy blue suits with gray striped ties. In terms of DIY, I designed the wedding programs, ring box, table assignment board, name cards, table “numbers” (which were actually places my husband and I had been to together and an accompanying photo of us in that location), and the chalkboard signs.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Make sure you fully trust in the vendors you select. I was entirely confident in every vendor we chose and it allowed me to relax and know that everything was covered. I just had to focus on getting married! Also, do as many of the DIY elements long before the wedding. I procrastinated and was super busy designing and crafting the week before the wedding.

Wedding Music:
Processional: “Lullaby + Exile,” M. Ward; “Ends of the Earth,” Lord Huron
Recessional: “Moth’s Wings,” Passion Pit
First Dance: “This Magic Moment,” The Drifters

From the photographer, Brianna Wilbur: I was shooting the reception, walking by a table of college boys when I heard one mumble, “Man, this wedding makes me want to settle down and have a wife,” in a rather serious tone. You know the wedding and couple is amazing when you hear that from a party driven college boy. I knew the bride before her wedding day but not close enough to call her a best friend of course. Now, I see a lot of brides slip on their white dresses. I usually get super excited, genuinely super happy. However, she was different. She literally took my breath away in that gown and I was truly teary behind my camera. I could see the excitement all over her face slipping into that perfect-fit lace dress & watched the realization wash over her that this is her day. She didn’t forget a single detail: the lush florals, various mismatched blush bridesmaid dresses that went together just so perfectly, her dainty green flower crown, the vintage decor, and more! His reaction when he saw her was so genuine and heartfelt (as you will see). These two have this palpable, deep love for one another with a very silly, lighthearted flare. Their vows were carefully crafted, every word picked with a purpose & meaning. The entire wedding felt like one big group of super fans that were 120% Sarah & Ryan. It was an honor to witness this marriage. It rained most of the day, it didn’t matter. This Lancaster, Pennsylvania farm wedding was a dream. The florals were fluffy, lush, and summery. The bridesmaids mismatched blush dresses complimented the rustic, elegant farm feel of Eagles Ridge. The bride is a wedding photographer herself and made every last detail beautiful. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

As a graphic designer, I believe that great graphic design is in the details {read: spending lots of time at the computer looking at pixels.} If you dont know what a pixel is- congratulations- because that’s why graphic designer types exist! {to save your eyesight} Really, though-design is more than matching colors and picking pretty fonts {but I do have major love for fonts} – it’s about conveying your message to the world with a swirl, a flourish, a dot, a pattern- whatever it takes to creatively encompass your clients vision and send that vision out into the world with impact.

That’s what I try to do. EMPHASIS on TRY. I adore designing and am currently the owner of NOTEDOCCASIONS.COM , an online site catering to everyone who loves having a party. And who doesn’t because as I see it, life’s a party!

Mid-Century Mexican Wedding at the Belmont Dallas

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Amber Vickery

Today’s couple Viviana and Dustin describe their wedding style as “Texican,” the perfect fusion of their backgrounds. The two exchanged vows in Dallas with the talented Amber Vickery and Dirt Flowers on hand, but filled the day with nods to Viviana’s Mexican heritage and oodles of bright color and fun floral arrangements. We particularly love the use of floor tiles as table number displays!

From the bride, Viviana: From start to finish, the one word we found ourselves calling the style of our wedding was “Texican”. We came across this word because we are very proud of my Mexican heritage and Dustin’s Texan background. So it was only natural to incorporate these things into our big day. A few things we knew we wanted was to have it outdoors, despite the Texas heat, with fabulous brunch style food. We threw in specialty popsicles for dessert because what’s better than popsicles in the middle of summer?

The way we would describe our wedding would be vibrant, colorful, relaxed, and personal. Our color scheme was quite unlimited being that Mexican blankets were the inspiration and used throughout the ceremony and reception. The biggest DIY of the wedding would be my wedding dress. It was a custom designed gown by Lucy Dang Dallas with an embroidered hem that I made by hand. From having a close friend design my wedding dress to Dustin’s dad officiating the ceremony, we wanted to include our family and friends in our celebrations as much as possible. My dad even made a giant jenga set as well as a beautiful prayer bench that we took communion on during the ceremony.

I was so excited about the flowers for the wedding and our florist Sonya from Dirt is absolutely amazing! She knew exactly what I was looking for right from the beginning. I trusted her completely and the end result was stunning! The only flower I requested were peonies which are my favorite flower and they were used beautifully throughout the bouquets and centerpieces.

From the photographer, Amber Vickery: Viviana and Dustin’s wedding was a perfect fusion of their heritages, he’s from the South and her family is from Mexico. She’s vibrant and a talented fiber artist and he’s a photographer and a little bit quieter. Their wedding was full of lovely, colorful details, I mean, those hot pink heels from Sarah Jessica Parker? And her dress made by Lucy Dang and the bride actually embroidered herself? The details really blew me away. It was incredible.

Relaxed Backyard Australian Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Love Katie + Sarah

Any time we know we’ve got a bride who made all the decor and favors herself, we get an extra kick out of it. Love Katie + Sarah and Moss Industry are here to share this beautiful backyard wedding in Australia that’s just about as relaxed as it gets. No bridal party, no sit-down meal, and no unnecessary frills — just lots of dancing, love, and wood-fired pizza!

relaxed backyard Australian wedding - photo by Love Katie and Sarah http://ruffledblog.com/relaxed-backyard-australian-wedding

From the bride, Hayley: Hugh and I love a party, so there was no theme or style. We just wanted a big party with our favourite people and a wedding thrown in there somewhere. Food, Booze and Dancing. It was a DIY mishmash. I made all the decorations (bunting and potted succulents) and party favours (piccalilli and plum jam). We didn’t go over the top with decorations as the location was so beautiful that we didn’t need to and also I didn’t want to stress over the planning and wanted to enjoy the process so we kept it basic. Hugh and I are not very polished people, we’re a bit rough around the edges so it made sense that the day was the same. We didn’t bother with bridal parties as we just didn’t see the point. We didn’t want a sit down wedding so we got a wood fire pizza truck come and just churn out food for a few hours, it was perfect, everyone was on their feet and mingling, eating, drinking and hanging out.

I only met with the florist 3 days before the wedding and she was so cool and lovely. I wanted succulents (my favourite) and local native shrubs and flowers. I wanted the location to be incorporated and inspire the day. There weren’t many flowers, just a bouquet for me and my daughter and a couple of large arrangements at the entrance, they blended in so beautifully with the wild bushy surrounds of the property. We also got our friend Zoe to make a (gluten and dairy free for Hugh) cake covered in succulents and it looked rad!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Yes. Don’t go overboard, at the end of the day its about you and your partner, not the table settings. Make sure you enjoy the process and don’t sweat the little things (no one else will). On the day, don’t get caught up in the running of the day, just enjoy all of it, eat the food, drink the wine, dance, hang out and have the best day ever. Too many times Ive heard that the couple were stressed the whole day and they got so stuck making small talk that they didn’t even get to eat the food, that’s just crazy! I wanted to get in on the action and enjoy the party I put so much work and love into.

Choosing music was way harder than we anticipated. We’re both music lovers so it had to be right. Our favourite love songs are all tragic and intense, not suitable for a wedding so it took forever to get a playlist together. We went with classic songs so everyone could get excited and so we knew the songs wouldn’t date badly. We then had a long playlist of songs while we greeted everyone of both new and old tracks, then had an amazing cover band until 11:00pm, after they clocked off we just handed over the iPod to the crowd and had the best craziest dance party for hours.

Bohemian Wedding at Secluded Garden Estate

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Priscila Valentina

Today’s wedding is a perfect blend of all the styles we love, which results in a wedding we just can’t take our eyes off of. Danielle and Eric began dating at only 14 years old, and were even married by the groom’s own sister who had watched the relationship grow since childhood. Don’t miss any of the sweet details captured by Priscila Valentina!

From the bride, Danielle: I originally wanted the style of my wedding to be more on the rustic side but after researching and looking at blogs of other weddings I realized that I really loved the vintage styles that were being done. So from there I kinda just had the idea of doing more vintage with a little bit of rustic to it. I didn’t exactly have a theme but knew I just wanted it to be as simple as possible and nothing over the top. As far as colors I wanted to have neutrals with light pastel colors. I told my bridesmaids to try to find something neutral and that they could pick their dress and if I liked it then it was fine for them to get. It turned out that all of them were only finding dresses that were blush color so I just decided that they all just had to be blush and since the guys were wearing grey I knew that would work out perfectly. So overall my colors were neutral with soft pinks and of course our venue was full of greenery so that helped finish everything off.

Oh one thing I wanted to point out that was very special to me was the fact that my sister-in-law was the one who married us. My husband and I began dating when we were 14 and I became friends with his younger sister right away and she has become one of my best friends. It was very meaningful because she has watched us grow in our relationship for the last 12 years. So when she threw the idea out there I couldn’t have been more happier because she has been there through it all and truly knows us as individuals and a couple. Her marrying us was one of the highlights of the day.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? After going through this entire experience the one thing I would want to know if I was just starting this process would be to have a small wedding. We had about 200 guests and it was extremely overwhelming. Most of our time was spent just saying hi and that was it. There wasn’t enough time to have conversations with people. So any advice would be to have a small intimate wedding. It will be hard to cut down the list of people but well worth it. Oh and make sure you EAT!!! You don’t want to have an empty stomach because it is such a long day.

Debonair Wedding at The Wythe Hotel

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Amber Gress

This stylish wedding at Brooklyn’s brilliantly modern Wythe Hotel is calling our name, lovely readers. Amber Gress and Tinsel & Twine contributed majorly to one heck of a party wedding for Kurt and Kyle, a truly cosmopolitan couple who knows how to have fun. There are TONS of great details and goodies to share here, so take some time to soak it all in!

debonair wedding at The Wythe Hotel - photo by Amber Gress http://ruffledblog.com/debonair-wedding-at-the-wythe

From the grooms, Kurt and Kyle: We met while studying abroad in Prague in the Fall of 2009. Kyle proposed in December 2013 at St Mark’s Church in the East Village (our meet up spot during college). We didn’t notice until later that Kyle proposed right above an astrological compass cemented in the square. The astrology theme tied reminded us of the famous astrological clock in Prague and it’s what ultimately led us to our design motif of constellations/stars/etc.

When deciding the look and feel of our wedding, one word came to mind: Chic. We wanted a neutral color palette that felt traditional and romantic, but as a juxtaposition to The Wythe’s amazing industrial details like exposed brick, raw air ducts, and graffit’d walls. Tinsel & Twine paired loose wild flowers with really cool, unique details like gold and glass geometric shapes as a nod to our shared love of Czech Cubism. Besides the food and the music and the decorations (!!!) one of the biggest hits of the night was our custom photobooth backdrop: a custom step-and-repeat with our wedding logo and an illustrated portrait of our dog, Butter, lovingly and skillfully created by Meghan of And Here We Are. Guests loved it. We literally had to drag people out at points in the night.

From the event designer, Erica of Tinsel & Twine: Our first meeting with Kurt & Kyle began with a bottle of rose and ended with an in-depth talk about astrology signs. It was love at first Air Sign. We had a blast working with an A-team vendor line-up. We’re seeing a big trend towards cocktail style weddings like Kurt & Kyle’s. We love this departure from the traditional wedding format because it allows guests to let loose and celebrate from start to finish. It feels very Now, and very New York. Traditional with a twist.

Spring Wedding with an Illusion Lace Gown

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Taylor Lord

Where to begin with Rory and Jason’s jaw-dropping wedding day? The soft pastel tones, the pops of gold, the Fort Worth warmth, and the woodsy accents are all memorable in their own rights, but we’d be remiss in our duties if we didn’t point out the show-stopping wedding gown by Yaki Ravid. All vendors truly shone in this wedding, including the always wonderful Taylor Lord and Shabby Rose!

A Desert Chic Wedding with Turquoise

Romantic Weddings

A desert wedding with a Mid-Century color palette and a vintage 1950s Chevy in an aquamint hue? Yeah, we’ll take it. This incredible Arizona wedding (photographed by Amy & Jordan Photography and styled by Petal Pusher) ticks all our boxes when it comes to inspiration — especially when it comes to the reception table decor. Just wait until you see it!

a desert chic wedding with turquoise - photo by Amy and Jordan Photography http://ruffledblog.com/a-desert-chic-wedding-with-turquoise

From the photographer, Amy of Amy & Jordan Photography: This wedding had more stunning and unique details, than any wedding we have seen. From the hand delivered succulent invitations, to the eclectic furniture and pillows brought in for cocktail hour, to the solid bronze charges and glass vases filled with real turquoise stones. It was absolutely breath taking and like nothing we have ever seen before! And the emotion and joy of the day was almost as exceptional. All the guests had taken their seats. They were anxiously awaiting a glimpse of a couple so magnetic and so full of life that they’d each been touched by, and couldn’t wait to see two people they loved so much finally tie the knot.

Meghan and Ben had left the icy snow of Chicago and traded it for a day filled with warmth and sunshine, and it just couldn’t have been more fitting for a couple filled with so much love. The guests shielded their eyes from the bright sun as they looked behind them, just as the music started to play. Ben and his boys entered, all donning shades, looking more like the Men in Black than a row of groomsmen, with just as much swag, and as the music got louder, one by one, the ladies came down the aisle, too. But they didn’t walk. They danced. With smiles on their faces and a bounce in their step, each bridesmaid danced down the aisle and made it clear to everyone that this was a celebration. A party. A. Time. For. Fun. The guests arose to see Meghan arm-in-arm with her dad, and as the two of them danced their way to Meghan’s future, there was nothing more perfect in the world.

Romantic Big Island Hawaii Wedding

Beach Weddings

Is there a better way to kick off #WeddingWednesday than with a Hawaii wedding? We definitely don’t think so. Julie Harmsen Photography, Swept Away Events, and Ainahua Florals all did absolutely amazing jobs, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t give a special little shoutout to the incredible floral design. King Protea and coral charm peonies as far as the eye can see makes for a very good day, indeed.

romantic Big Island Hawaii wedding - photo by Julie Harmsen Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-big-island-hawaii-wedding

From the bride, Emily: We knew immediately we would get married on the Big Island, where Brandon is from. I wanted the whole thing to feel as casual as possible. I wanted everyone to feel comfortable and included.

I love color and flowers so we wanted to make that the priority. You don’t need much else in a setting like the Big Island. I would say adjectives would be: bright, organic, casual. Brandon’s aunt and mom put together the party favors in these adorable bags. Inside was Hawaiian sea salt blend (made by a neighbor) and lilikoi jam (made by a friend whose son was in the hospital. What a saint).

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t take it too seriously. I didn’t really want a wedding but conceded eventually. My husband actually planned the whole thing. And once it was all over I was just so grateful for the experience. All of our friends and family together in one place. There is really nothing better than that. Don’t let the details get in the way of that big picture. No matter what it will be perfect.

I narrowed down the list to about 30 songs for him to pick from. The day he picked that one I saw they were playing here in Atlanta the day before we left for our wedding. So I surprised him with tickets. During the encore to the show, they played it, dedicating it to their friends who got married that weekend. 6 hours later we were on a plane heading to our own wedding. Pretty serendipitous if you ask me.

Rainy Day Wedding at Fernbrook Farms

Garden Weddings

They say rain on your wedding day is good luck, and it’s a good thing because Gwen and Dan’s wedding had a surprise downpour right as the ceremony began. The couple took it all in stride, and it even made for lots of smiles and laughter all caught by the photographer, Pat Furey. Their plant-infused reception is full of incredible inspiration for any garden lover!

The colors were blush and dusty green. We had lots of DIY! We decided on planted flowers, herbs and greens for the centerpieces which the bride’s mother and sister planted. We made all of the programs, menus, escort cards/escort card display, favors and table numbers which all featured a floral paper I fell in love with from Rifle Paper Co that was a part of our wedding invitation.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Have fun with the planning and give yourself plenty of time for an engagement. We had just over a year of planning and I felt like it was the perfect amount of time to really enjoy the process. I had a timeline checklist I used on the knot which kept me on track of what I should be doing when. It also doesn’t hurt to marry a wonderful guy who is engaged enough where they give you an opinion, but not too involved to really just let you do your thing!

Relaxed Destination Wedding in Tulum

Beach Weddings

Cassie and Sean wanted more than just one day to celebrate their wedding with family and friends, so a destination wedding was the perfect answer. Everyone headed to Tulum, Mexico for an absolutely dreamy event with tropical air and lush surroundings, made even better by the talents of Cynthia Rose Photography and Tulum Weddings and Events.

From the bride, Cassie: We knew we wanted our wedding to be laid back, intimate and jam packed with laughter. We also knew we wanted to spend a few quality days (not just one!) with our closest friends and family and have an awesome party to cap it off. Sean and I are beach people (he proposed on the beach at my parents beach house in North Carolina) and oh do we ever love Mexico! It is so close yet, far enough away where we can throw our real world cares to the wind and really melt into two puddles of pure bliss… obviously that’s the place you want to get married! And Tulum… oh, Tulum… pure magic… a jungle beach paradise. It’s rustic, charming and it’s our favorite spot to escape to for a long weekend.

In terms of style, I was going for a laid back, art deco, vintage, beach-glam vibe (if that even makes any sense at all!). I actually just kind of meshed some of my favorite eras together but, everything turned out beyond perfect! The juxtaposition between the rustic, laid back, beach palapas and the glammed up, glitzy details was just beyond!

We wanted to fill the day with tons of little personal touches, which was not easy to do when you’re doing a destination. We ended up bringing several suitcases full of items down to Mexico because we wanted to have these personal touches, which meant I had to be super organized! For our guest book, we had friends sign vintage postcards (I brought a ton of vintage postcards from places that were special to Sean and I) with well wishes or advice. We had our guests find their seats for dinner with gold compact compasses which we brought down, along with signage that said “May love be your compass, may it guide you home….But, first find your seat.” We loved that because home is no longer a place it’s now a person. We also had maracas handmade with our name and the date for guests to shake during the ceremony when we kissed. It was all really cute and in the end defiantly worth all the stress!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice for couples thinking about planning destination weddings is… just do it! Destination weddings are the best because everyone really gets to know each other and by the wedding it’s like one big happy family. Try to make it as EASY as possible for all guests… that could mean arranging accommodations for guests, having transportation set up and other events, dinners and things for them to do. The biggest piece of advice is to find someone there who you trust and who can help you. We got really close with Sandy and Morgan and they were rockstars in dealing with logistics. We couldn’t have done it from afar without them. Also, I’m a bit of a control freak and I had to learn how to just let some things be! There were things that I didn’t know how they were going to work or turn out and I had to just trust Morgan and Sandy and roll with it. Distance also makes you super decisive. Make a decisions and move one! Life is in the slow lane in Mexican beach towns (which is why we picked Tulum in the first place) so, in the end it was perfect because all I could do was drink a margarita, enjoy our guests and let the wind carry away my worries.

Elegant Organic Mother Nature Inspired Shoot

Wedding Design

We adore the concept behind today’s styled shoot — what would Mother Nature’s wedding look like? The answer, according to Lauren Gabrielle Photography, Shi Shi Events, and HeatherLily, is lush floral arrangements made up of peonies, garden roses, and berries, and a flowy wedding gown that Aphrodite herself would envy.

elegant organic mother nature inspired shoot - photo by Lauren Gabrielle Photography http://ruffledblog.com/elegant-organic-mother-nature-inspired-shoot

From the event designer, Gina of Shi Shi Events: In Cleveland, we definitely experience the full range of the four seasons. After a particularly long, cold winter this year I was very much inspired by this spring and that beautiful sense of the world waking up and blossoming again. This feeling lead me to think about what it would mean if Mother Nature were a bride and I created an inspirational shoot around it. I wanted the shoot to feel like all of the things I believe Mother Nature to be: bohemian, a bit glamorous, nurturing but powerful and ultimately beautiful.

I also felt it was important to have some baby animals included in the shoot as what’s more spring or more Mother Nature right? For the tablescape we developed a mix of floral pieces in gold vessels surrounded by antlers and set those pieces against vintage china and glassware and chic gold flatware. To add power and punch, our bride and groom’s chairs were draped in smilax and adorned with large horns which acted as place cards for our new “Mr” and “Mrs.” With the setting of a stunner of an apple orchard below us on a hillside I feel like we really captured the essence of Mother Nature at her very best.

Garden Wedding at Morris Arboretum

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Pat Furey

Pennsylvania’s Morris Arboretum has just made it to the short list of our favorite venues, especially when Pat Furey is behind the camera and Statement Piece Floral is in control of some seriously striking floral arrangements. Sarah and Chris’ wedding was fun and laid-back above all else, and their efforts to include meaningful elements truly shines through in their beautiful wedding images.

garden wedding at Morris Arboretum - photo by Pat Furey http://ruffledblog.com/garden-wedding-at-morris-arboretum

From the bride, Sarah: My husband and I planned every aspect of our romantic garden wedding so that it would feel like “us.” We knew that we wanted a laid back and natural aesthetic, and the Morris Arboretum in Philadelphia was the perfect venue with its gorgeous greenhouse, lots of blooming Wisteria, and all kinds of greenery! Our goals were to have tons of fun (check!) and for the day not to feel too stuffy (check!). Because we wanted it to be an intimate and personal day (and because we are both financially limited graduate students), we incorporated tons of DIY and family elements. For example, my dad handmade our gorgeous ceremony arch (one of our favorite elements of the day), my uncle played “Here Comes the Sun” on the guitar during the processional and sang live during our garden cocktail hour, my husband’s great aunt and uncle (who were celebrating 50 years of marriage) officiated our ceremony, we wrote our own vows and incorporated traditions that were meaningful to us (like a native American branch unity ceremony), a childhood friend of mine baked our wedding cake, and we chose a family style vegetarian meal (we are both vegetarian) for the reception. I also took on some fun DIY projects like the moss and dried/flower frame we used as a cake backdrop and a vintage wine box/moss place card display.

We were fortunate to work with lots of wonderful vendors including my dress designer Tatyana Merenyuk (I found my dream dress on Etsy and traveled to her studio in Brooklyn for custom design consultations and fittings), and a local florist who helped us create what we wanted on our budget. We also added some fun details, like our sugar skull cake topper (also an Etsy find) that featured tiny sugar skull versions of our cats and sweetheart spoons engraved with my favorite E.E. Cummings poem (“i love you much [most beautiful darling] more than anyone on the earth. And I like you better than everything in the sky.”) Our ridiculously talented photographer documented so many of the day’s magical moments — like my husband taking a quick spin on his motorcycle after opening my wedding gift – an original 1979 magazine advertisement for his Honda CB650.

High School Sweetheart Summer Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Katherine O'Brien

Christine and Zuy met in high school and dated for 8 years before Zuy proposed on the beaches of Mexico during a getaway trip (hello, dreamy proposal!). These high school sweethearts kept the romance going with a sweet and earthy wedding in Austin, Texas, captured by Katherine O’Brien Photography with amazing flowers put together by Whim Florals. This one’s a winner for sure!

high school sweetheart summer wedding - photo by Katherine OBrien Photography http://ruffledblog.com/high-school-sweetheart-summer-wedding

From the bride, Christine: I had a vision the entire time I was planning my wedding, and our venue’s location helped me execute that perfectly. I have always loved vintage styled weddings, but I wanted to take it to the next step and make it more earthy and natural. I wanted our guests to feel warm and welcome once they stepped onto the property. My favorite part of the entire day was the ceremony; the setup was exactly what I imagined. From our pastor to the florist, they all understood every aspect of my vision. I couldn’t have seen it any other way; I guess you could say it was “Pinterest” perfect.

Zuy and I met in the hallways of our high school in 2005, it was the year that changed our lives forever. We went through a few important phases in life, high school, college, and soon to come, marriage. As if life couldn’t get much better, eight years later Zuy surprised me with a trip to Mexico where he quickly proposed on the beach at a wonderful dinner setting. The next day sitting on the beach I started doing what I do best — PLAN! I loved the planning process of the wedding, besides the few hurdles we surpassed I enjoyed every minute of it. It was almost like I didn’t want the day to come so soon, I just wanted to keep planning!

If I could, I would go on and on about every vendor of our wedding. Every single one of them was beyond friendly and helpful. I am very detail-oriented and I was able to accomplish this with the help of them and my family. I with the help of my mom, bridesmaid’s and wedding coordinator put all the décor from the candles, the props, to the signage together. It was all stuff I had either collected from vintage shops, my own apartment décor, or borrowed from the venue. This was my favorite part about the cocktail hour and reception, besides the food. (Guests are still talking about those mashed potatoes we had.) The cocktail hour was so fun to plan, two words — comfort and refreshing. I wanted it to feel casual with an elegant twist. We served Mac-n-cheese bites and sorbet, both comforting and refreshing! Our caterer was fantastic; I told them I wanted our dogs to be there, they are such an important part of our lives. So there was no better way than to name our specialty drinks after them! “The Marley” (masculine and bold) and “The Mia” (refreshing and feminine). I told myself I was going to take a step back and enjoy all the hard work and planning we had done. I wanted to actually get to see my wedding in “action” as most brides don’t get to do.

The creative couple (the bride is a designer while the groom is a cinematographer) had their hands all over the day, right down to the creative Save-the-Date video you’ll see at the very end. Laura Goldenberger and next saturday affairs did remarkable work on this one, as always!

From the bride, Laycee: We love the mid Century modern style of our venue Frederick Loewe Estate. The architecture has clean lines, geometric sculptures, design books with large Swiss typography, etc, which is all a cohesive design language used throughout our wedding. The surroundings of the venue is an expansive and beautiful desert-chic landscape. We used this contrast between geometry and organic shapes on everything from our invitation, place cards to welcome signs. We thought that this contrast creates more energy and interest rather than the hand-written, DIY look a lot of other weddings have.

Flower recipe: King protea was my favorite flower used in my bouquet. There were lots of succulents, air plants, palm leaves…

All the napkins and table runners were hand-made from a few different geometric patterned fabric we chose. All the table numbers were house numbers from home depot, spray painted gold. The little geometric shapes holding up the name cards were made from clay, cut into unique shapes and baked in the oven to harden. Quite a few of the geometric shaped terrariums were made from 90s lamps, with the light bulbs and cords removed. The 2 white columns with the clear casing on top at our altar were also custom made. I designed our own letterpress wedding invitation, all the place cards, name cards, welcome signs and all other collaterals. The wedding favors were designed by me as well: a pair of letter press coasters in black and white, with gold patterns. Our Save the Date was a collaboration between Jon and I. I design for a living and he produces video for a living. This piece is a perfect example of the magic we create together, and a “making of” teaser of the real wedding invitation.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I think the trick to planning a great wedding is to have a clear vision of your design aesthetic or theme from the get-go and stick with it throughout. Not to say everything needs to look the same, but if there’s a central theme threading everything together, the entire look will be cohesive. Changing minds about the look will often create disjointed experiences and confuse yourself as well. Also, do as much as you can but not over commit. Spend your money on the most important things like the venue and catering. It’s totally okay to let some of the smaller things go. They won’t have as big of an impact to your wedding as the venue and catering will.

Welcome to Spreading Lovely!  We’re a full service event planning & design company based in the San Francisco Bay Area, serving all of The Golden State and beyond and tailor all services to fit your specific event needs.  Plus, with every booking, we donate 10% to the charity of your choice because we believe in not only making a difference in our clients’ lives, but also in countless other lives we may never otherwise have the opportunity to reach.

Of course we love a great party, but more importantly we believe in love, we believe in a marriage after the wedding, and we love being a part of life’s major milestones and helping you navigate the (sometimes) mountains of details.  With our wealth of knowledge, creativity and experience we’ll illuminate and inspire your ideas to create a one-of-a-kind event that authentically reflects YOUnot us, or what anyone tells you it should be.

We know how to leverage small design details of texture, color and lighting to elevate an event and create the ambiance you desire. We love collaborating to create unique event concepts, after all – it’s your story that makes the best inspiration.  If lots of glitter and bright colors best reflects your fun loving nature, awesome, we’re in!  If an elopement on a mountain top is more your thing, fantastic, we’re in!  Our number one job is to be on your team and provide a voice of reason, guidance and experience to streamline the planning and execute your event more exceptional than you imagined.

We believe you should be fully present and live in the moment on your wedding day, not sweating the small stuff!  That’s why we’re here to make the road to your wedding more fun, more relaxed and more enjoyable by taking care of the planning, design and organization details so you can still make it to Sunday brunch and do more of what makes you happy while celebrating the path to this amazing commitment to each other!
