Fiesta Inspired Arizona Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

When we need an uplifting boost of color and a beautiful wedding all-in-one, we just look to the lens of Rachel Solomon Photography for that. Arizona is the ideal place to host a wedding with a bold southwest vibe and Toby and David’s wedding is chock-full of pin-worthy details. Victoria Canada Weddings and Events and Butterfly Petals had such creativity going on with this wedding and you can see many examples of it, from the astounding tablescapes to the just-as-phenomenal flower choices. This wedding is a serious A-plus!

From the event planner, Victoria Canada Weddings and Events: We loved helping Toby and David create a wedding that was unique and so different! Toby, who is a graphic designer and designed all the paper goods for her wedding, has an eye for color and we loved her confidence in the bold color choices. The style and feel of their wedding blended perfectly with The Historic El Chorro Lodge, known for its Southwestern flair.

Toby and her mother were very involved in the event planning and design. We loved partnering with them to implement their fun touches. For example, Toby mentioned creating a fun and fresh signature cocktail, and she brought out an inspiration photo and wanted to put her own twist on it. We connected her with a local vendor – Paletas Betty. These Southwest inspired popsicles were placed in a cold glass of Prosecco. The final outcome was unique, pretty and refreshing on a warm wedding day. Toby and her mom Nancy embraced the beautiful and bright colors that are found naturally in the Southwest landscape. The final outcome included dynamic and gorgeous floral centerpieces and floral bougainvillea suspended from the ceiling. What a beautiful day for a wonderful couple!

From the photographer, Rachel Solomon PhotographyIt was a very hot and sunny day for Toby & David’s El Chorro wedding photos, but that didn’t stop them from having the most fun, bright & colorful fiesta inspired wedding! Fuchsias, cobalts, and more were everywhere you looked and everything blended together perfectly. From the floral, to the paper, to the linens, and the Paletas & Prosecco (yum!!) this stunner was so pleasing to the eye. I asked Toby & David to tell me about when they knew each other was “the one,” and how David proposed:

Toby: I knew pretty early into dating David that he was the one. He was the first guy who I felt like I could be 100% myself around, and someone I always had a good time with.

David: I knew she was the one when I would come back to town after being underway for several weeks (I was in the Coast Guard at the time), and she was the very first person I would rush to see. I knew my life was better when I was with her. We got engaged in Washington, D.C. on Memorial Day. We had flown in to visit Toby’s sister who lives there, and her parents had joined us. My parents and brother live in Virginia and drove in to meet up with all of us for the day. I knew I wanted to ask Toby to marry me, and having our families all together seemed like the perfect time to do it. We were all cooling off at a local brewery after a day of sight seeing, and I got up to give a toast to her sister for hosting such a great weekend. Then I turned to Toby and got down on one knee. She looked totally surprised then she started nodding her head ‘Yes!’

Tucson Hacienda Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Where better than to get some good Southwestern wedding inspiration than Tucson, Arizona? Elyse Hall Photography and Atelier De LaFleur teamed up to create this edgy-meets-soft stylish shoot with plenty of cacti, patterned tile, and one seriously beautiful cake made using locally sourced ingredients.

Tucson hacienda wedding inspiration - photo by Elyse Hall Photography http://ruffledblog.com/tucson-hacienda-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Elyse Hall Photography: We decided on an August shoot in Tucson AZ for the landscape, cuisine, people, and history… everything about the Sonoran desert has captured our hearts. We picked Hacienda del Sol Guest Ranch mainly because of its gorgeous vistas, cactus gardens and famous Josias Joesler architecture. The ranch was founded in the 1920s as a boarding school for the daughters of socialites and in the 1930s it was turned into a guest ranch that attracted the Silver Screen’s most popular stars.

We chose to keep the floral and décor simple, highlighting the ranch’s existing beauty. Native plants and cacti were incorporated into our bouquets and centerpieces to enhance the desert surroundings. Lori from Sugar Song Cakes created a Mesquite honey and vanilla cake with an orange blossom, agave sugar frosting. We love that she used local ingredients! The invitations used beautiful blooming cacti watercolor images, raw leather binding and gold foil. Originally we had two different ideas and we couldn’t make up our minds, we loved them both so much. Our designer expertly wove the two concepts together creating a suite that captured our style perfectly.

From the floral designer, Atelier De LaFleur: Eco-friendly bouquets and centerpieces were selected to hold up in the July heat as well as celebrate the existing native plant life that you find in the Tucson desert. How often can you create an elegant centerpiece using only cactus? We wanted to display the beauty we see in the desert while using living plants that can go from the event to the garden.

Bohemian Aztec Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Southwestern style is a trend that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere soon, which is totally a-ok by us. Sarah Beth Photography, Alyssa Arlene Events, and Root Floral Design put together this creative styled shoot embracing bohemian and southwestern wedding inspiration, bringing in Aztec elements and handmade details for a truly stylish look. Personally, I’m wild about the handcrafted and dip-dyed macrame shawl!

bohemian Aztec wedding inspiration - photo by Sarah Beth Photography http://ruffledblog.com/bohemian-aztec-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Sarah Beth Photography: When trying to decide on the theme for this shoot, myself along with Sarah Beth Photography and Root Floral Design knew a couple of things for sure, we wanted a beautiful, bride with a unique look, a sweet flower girl instead of a groom and we wanted the entire shoot to be something completely different than the more traditional weddings we see in South Louisiana.

With Aztec prints taking over everything in the past year, we thought it would be a great idea to mix the vibrant colors of the Southwest with delicately vintage touches. To blend these two styles, we used vintage furniture and place settings from Purely Vintage. Root Floral Design used unique, brightly colored flowers, succulents, cacti and greenery to really tie in the Southwestern Aztec theme. Lily Mac Designs hand painted each of the pieces in the suite while Sky’s the Limit Cakes created a gorgeous two-tiered wedding cake utilizing traditional Southwestern turquoise and tan. Slow Down Productions hand made and hand dyed a macramé piece that was used through out the shoot.

When styling our bride and flower girl, we wanted the look to be effortless and Sposa Bella generously provided both dresses, which, along with natural hair and makeup, really completed the look. Each vendor was encouraged to use their imagination and explore what a vintage/Aztec theme meant to them and I believe that each component came together to beautifully execute the vision. We had a great time working on this shoot together and we are super excited to share the talents of so many amazing vendors!

Lovestruck Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Julie Cate

This lovestruck wedding inspiration shoot shows us how quickly something beautiful can grow out of just one inspiring item. Kirsten of Revel and Bloom came across a vintage mug in an antique shop, and was able to form an entire styled session based around its unique design. Julie Cate and Bare Root Flora were on hand to assist with images and floral design, and we think they absolutely nailed this one.

lovestruck wedding inspiration - photo by Julie Cate http://ruffledblog.com/lovestruck-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Kirsten of Revel and Bloom: The inspiration for this styled shoot all stemmed from finding an intricate and beautifully painted mug at a local thrift store. From there we made it our goal to find unique treasures that would bring together a “love struck” style shoot. We wanted to accomplish this by featuring patterns and designs in the pastel color palette to create a romantic spin on the typical tribal esthetic. We also loved the idea of incorporating items that were found at local thrift stores to inspire couples to integrate Eco-friendly and refurbished approaches into their wedding.

For the sweetheart table, we found a mid-century modern table with angular inlays to use as our base. From there we purchased patterned china, glassware, flatware, and two arrow candlesticks that we painted to match. Succulents were hand-dipped with rose gold paint, and were used to hold our custom escort arrows for the bride and the groom. From there we created (DIYed) lovely dream catchers out of crochet doilies, lace, and ribbon to use as chargers, and a whimsical feather backdrop to add dimension. The table was finished with lush flowers by Bare Root Flora and a fabulous cow skull.

For the cake table, we wanted to continue to use furniture with angular patterns. We found and refinished a duel-level credenza that had lines on the front panel that resembled an arrow. It displayed a coffee station and a beautifully designed cake by Avalon Cakes. The escort and guestbook vignettes were placed on end tables that matched the sweetheart table. The hexagon escort cards by Caroline Creates were held in place by arrow cardholders, and accented by rose gold rocks and succulents. The unique guest book consisted of wooden bead that the guests signed and attached to one of the ribbons on the dream catcher.

From the distinctive, rose gold headband made by the Rodeo Gypsy, to the beautiful dress by The Bridal Collection, to the styling by Style Down the Aisle; each of the vendors did a remarkable job of creating their elements of the shoot with beautiful details based on the concept. In addition, a majority of the items in the shoot consisted of either refurbished items found at thrift store or DIY projects. The following items were found at a thrift store sweetheart table, chairs, tribal china, flatware, glassware, dessert credenza, coffee set, doilies for dream catchers, and escort card end table. The following items were DIY projects: rose gold dipped succulents, rose gold rocks, arrow place cards, arrow card holders, dipped flatware, dream catchers, signs, arrow candle holders, rose gold votives, and feather backdrop.

Southwestern Desert Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Clayton Austin

Well, the secret’s out — not only is Clayton Austin a photographer extraordinaire; he also knows how to put together quite the styled shoot. Earlier this year, Clayton held a photography workshop in Marfa, TX that was nothing short of total beauty, and we’ve got the evidence to prove it!

southwestern desert wedding ideas - photo by Clayton Austin - view more: http://ruffledblog.com/southwestern-desert-wedding-ideas

From the photographer, Clayton Austin: Marfa is set in the middle of the west Texas desert and I really wanted to incorporate this vast beautiful landscape into the theme of the shoot. I imagined something organic and unique with accents of white, pops of rich colors, and touches of leather. For the bouquet I gathered simple green foliage and bound it with earthy jute twine pulling it all together with strips of leather belts purchased at my local thrift store. I found the stunning textile breast plate at a market days festival on Nantucket Island. Isobel and Cleo has some of the most amazing textile clothes in the entire world!

After seeing some vintage macrame hangers at an antique store in Santa Monica I was immediately inspired to incorporate them in a unique way. I found some smaller plates that fit my cakes perfectly and kept the sides of the hangers from digging into the cakes. I really loved how they turned out and had never seen such a unique cake display. I think an entire wall of macramé hanging deserts would be oh so stellar. Instead of more traditional tables and chairs I opted from something a tad more unexpected by removing the legs of a table I purchased from World Market and placing it on metal baskets. I then completed the arrangement with floor cushions and rawhide rugs.

After collecting a few antler sheds from a local shop I hand painted them using golds and pinks. This was such a simple project and am looking forward to displaying the antlers in my own home. The blue lab is my baby girl, Mattie. After a super successful career of modeling she has decided to retire. This was such a fun shoot to style and am always so inspired by the unexpected! Never be afraid to think outside the box and take risks!

Southwestern San Clemente Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

Matthew Morgan

Where oh where to begin with this San Clemente wedding from Matthew Morgan? Perhaps with the fact that the handsome groom looks uncannily like Adam Scott from Parks and Recreation, or that everyone in this wedding is drop-dead gorgeous, or that every bit of the styling and floral design from Love Me Do Weddings and Tropical Blossoms is nothing short of southwestern perfection…

southwestern san clemente wedding // via ruffledblog.com

From the bride, Katie: The style I was going for was a southwestern vibe. We wanted a lot of DIY and love to show through all the decor of the wedding. I also wanted to keep it simple, but make a statement. Some adjectives that come to mind would be… simple, happy, or relaxed. The theme was southwestern, along with red-orange, turquoise, yellow colors…

Our DIY projects included: we painted geometric designs on each of the table numbers, and we painted the escort frames with geometric designs as well. We had bracelets tied around the napkins at the tables that had tags with clever sayings written on them. We painted each terracotta pot, and we made the sign in table/find your seat table decor too!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice would be to stay calm and roll with whatever happens…you’re marrying your best friend, nothing can change that. I think all brides can agree that the day goes by way too fast, so take in each moment!

Bohemian Santa Fe Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Joni Bilderback

Today’s wedding by Bash, Please, captured by Joni Bilderback, is full of so much intimacy and sweetness that it’s hard to know where to begin. Take special note of bride Devin’s Free People lace wedding dress, and the wood incense given to guests in screen-printed muslin pouches!

From Paige and Kelly of Bash, Please: Devin and Brock live on an intentional community outside of Taos called LAMA. They had all their community friends from LAMA gather for a picnic at the church to give blessings before service. They had a noon time mass with their dear friend who is a priest. Brock’s sister Paige was the best woman and Devin’s brother Ross was the man of honor. It was an intimate ceremony of about 40 people followed by dinner in the private dining room at the St. Francis Hotel in Santa Fe.

They are a truly unique, bohemian couple who wanted to encapsulate the New Mexico state in their wedding decor. All pottery was sourced locally for the florals and cacti, and used raw linen napkins that we dip-dyed in an sunset color. They chose to give Palo Santo “holy stick” incense in muslin pouches that we screenprinted an illustrated agave plant onto. Devin wore a dress by Free People and they had an organic Mexican vanilla wedding cake. All the guests sipped mezcal cocktails and dined on short ribs. They danced the night away to their friends music.

For this wedding, we dip dyed linen napkins, sourced all local pottery for the table florals/cactus, we created all the wild Georgia O’keefe inspired florals with foraged wildflowers and greenery, and custom illustrated the agave plant that we screenprinted on favor bags filled with Palo Santo. The guest book was quilt squares that Devin the bride is going to make into a quilt of love notes.

Southwestern Meets Wes Anderson Inspiration

Wedding Design

By now, I think we’ve all caught on that anything Glass Jar Photography touches turns to magic, so it comes as little surprise that their new film division, MARROW, is utter gorgeousness. Whitney and Bethany wanted to celebrate the launch of Marrow with a shoot where southwestern style meets a Wes Anderson vibe, and, well, I’m pretty positive they nailed it.

From the photographers, Glass Jar Photography: This is our launch shoot for Glass Jar Photography’s new digital film/photojournalism division MARROW. We wanted to create a digital film company that tailors to the documentarians, free-er spirits or couples just looking for the “timeless film vibe”. This shoot was based on a southwestern meets Wes Anderson-ish theme in an old rock quarry. We wanted to create some unique and interesting wedding ideas for couples that are interested in being a little outside the box on their wedding day, or looking for some cool themes or details to pull into their plans, like feathers for boutonnieres, magnifying glass wedding favors, unique tablescapes, or couples’ portrait ideas.

One thing that never ceases to delight me is when photographers and stylists can take a theme and run with it in a new direction, much like IYQ Photography and The Wedding Rabbit did here. They designed a styled shoot loosely inspired by western elements, opting for muted color tones and relying on the beauty of nature to help tell the story. This western wedding inspiration is just perfect for an al fresco soiree.

Western Wedding Inspiration

From the photographer, Kimie of IYQ Photography: We were inspired to created this collection of photos with an earthy, organic spin on a southwest themed wedding. Inspired from finding charming pieces in local antique shops, this idea came fruition as a collaboration from all of the vendors involved. Kelly’s love for working with eclectic and collected things, combined with natural elements and textures- bare bone, galvanized metal, knotted wood, etc translated into this bohemian-chic wedding inspiration. We included many handcrafted items, such as the handmade pottery table settings customized by our bride model Sonya and refurbished window pane and ladder from Paisley and Jade.

We wanted to create light filled airy images that created a celebration of charm and tranquility with touches of southwestern and Mexican culture. Shana, from Sassy Snapdragon Florals brought our floral vision to life, with her gorgeous rustic arrangements. She seamlessly incorporated a gorgeous mix of textures to create arrangements that translated in photos as natural and charming while keeping with the color palates for the shoot of white, ivories, earth tones and blush pastels. In addition to the brides gorgeous bouquet, she also customized the grooms boutonniere, table settings along with a lei for the horse and cake topper.

Perkins, from Paisley and Jade (eclectic party rentals), provided us with the beautiful mint chairs, chalk board window frame chalk board, the ladders, and more. The tablescape combined several re-purposed items — a slice of a tree stump, old cow skull, a pair of antlers with the delicate textures of vintage laces and linens all topped off by gold flatware. Our bride wore a vintage lace slip over a nude body slip while our groom wore khakis, a matching vest and a pair of vintage unlaced loafers. Ashlyn, our wonderfully talented Makeup Artist, provided our models with the perfect look of a light earthy eye with flirty cheeks and lips.

Southwestern Palm Springs Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

I think we’ve all noticed a recent uptick in the trend of southwestern wedding style, and I for one am thrilled to see all the different looks under this umbrella! Photographer Abi Q and Enjoy Events Co. joined forces in this phenomenal Palm Springs wedding to bring us some seriously beautiful nuptials. Can I just say how madly in love I am with the couple’s modern wedding invitations?

bride in field

From the bride, Nicole: We wanted the wedding to be modern and fresh, but also a little bit bohemian to incorporate our love of vintage finds. We were inspired by the location – at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains – to incorporate natural elements of the surrounding landscape to keep the decor feeling earthy and not overly done.

I fell in love with the gown immediately. It had a modern shape, which I was looking for, but was still very feminine and romantic. I also loved the texture of the fabric – I thought it was perfect for my fall wedding. I found the dress at Nordstrom with my mother, she helped me decide on the dress and also purchased it for me – it was something she had been looking forward to forever – very sweet.

The color scheme was inspired by the desert: pale peach, smoky persimmon, bone, agave green, natural linen. The mid-century modern architecture in Palm Springs inspired the lounge area and bentwood dining chairs – dipped in white and turquoise for a pop of color. Tribal print textiles were incorporated throughout the decor – from Ikat and Navajo throw pillows to brightly colored chevrons painted on the pedestals that flanked the ceremony location. Loose ribbons adorned the backs chairs of the bride and groom. Guests waved wands of feathers and ribbon as the new couple were announced. Succulent seating cards, place settings, menus, invitations, and all other paper goods were DIY by the groom, who is a brand identity designer.
