Crisp Autumn Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Debbie Lourens

It’s getting chillier and chillier with every day, so we know it’s the perfect time to share this beautiful inspiration shoot from Debbie Lourens, Blank Canvas, and Leipzig. It’s ideal for that time of the year where autumn is gently lapsing into winter, where there are still enough lovely flowers to pick but there might also be specks of snow floating around. And can we talk about that incredible headpiece?

From the photographer, Debbie Lourens: We were inspired by the movie ‘Frozen’ and using that as our starting point our idea began to evolve into a whimsical shoot that celebrates all things snow and frost. We chose our models loosely based upon the theme of the blonde ice queen and her red-head sister and we accessorised them with crystals and feathers and layers of snow. Our colour scheme included warm, as well as cold colours to provide a rich, textural palette and to bring depth into the icy winter wonderland we were aiming to create. The wonderful indigenous plants and flowers we used gave an amazing South African spin to the fairytale and the use of raw wood made us think of a mysterious forest covered in snowflakes.

Romantic Moscow Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Today’s wedding has all the makings of a super romantic day – shades of pink, endless cakes, tons of glitter, snowy weather, and sweet fuzzy bunnies. It doesn’t get much better than this! Olga and Sergey brought their dream wedding to life with the help of Sonya Khegay Photography, Ajur Wedding, and Latte Décor, all of whom did their part to make the big day a smash success.

winter Moscow wedding via ruffledblog.com

From the event designer, Latte Décor: The couple approached us in November 2012. From the first meeting it was clear what kind of delicate and touching feelings they have for each other. The ceremony itself Olga and Sergey planned for the beginning of spring. In Russia this period is not the most popular time of the year for a wedding, because the weather can be quite unpredictable – and one should not expect bright sun with the first leaves on the trees. Looking ahead, it is worth saying that it was exactly what happened on the day of the wedding – there was fabulous snowfall.

While preparing, we decided we needed to dilute the cold landscapes with warm hues, bringing in an atmosphere of love and tenderness that comes from the couple in the winter wonderland. So we decided to use gold in the decoration and candles that always brings special magic and coziness. We wanted to make something special, but at the same time to maintain harmony with winter views, so we had the idea to bring cute and fluffy bunnies to the photo shoot and to “grow” green grass among white snowdrifts and snow-covered fir trees. Like an island of spring being a symbol of the emerging family.

South African Winter Engagement Session

Engagement Sessions

Photos by:

Adene Photography

At this point, it’s hardly a secret that South Africa is one of my favorite destinations. When I heard Adene Photography and Anli Wahl were collaborating on a styled shoot based around the South African snow, I knew it would be something else. We’re oh-so-glad the models and vendors braved through the chilling winds to deliver this beauty to our pages!

snowy engagement shoots // photo by Adene Photography via ruffledblog.com

From the florist and stylist, Anli Wahl: Wow, where do we begin telling the story about this amazing shoot? It has always been my dream to do a styled shoot in the snow, and Adene agreed to it on one condition – only if there were ground level snow, as she is petrified of heights!

We ended up doing the shoot on Friday the 16th of August, after we moved the date about 2/3 times. Driving towards Matroosberg Mountain we saw absolutely NO snow… panic-stations! Arriving at Matroosberg Private Nature Reserve’s reception, we could barely open the car’s doors, the freezing wind was howling so viciously! We were however met by the friendliest faces and Waldo explained that he’d be happy to take us up the mountain to the snow if we were game… Adene wanted out SO badly, and thought out so many other options for us to rather do, haha! We weighed our options. In the end we decided that were sooo close, everyone was dressed, make-up done, flowers in the back, furniture on the roof – we just HAD to bite the bullet!

We 4×4’d for at least 45 minutes (me in the boot, with all the flowers on my lap!) to a spot with enough snow. Here we unpacked and started setting up and shooting. The wind was pumping and it was freezing to say the least! At times it really felt as if my brains stopped working properly, my cheeks got so frozen that I could barely speak properly! Poor Tamar and Jared were absolute troopers! They were really very scantily dressed compared to us wearing thick jackets and scarves! We had to send them to the car every now and then just to defrost a bit! It was an incredible experience to say the least – one that I probably would not have done if I knew how hard it would be beforehand! But as with all creative projects, there is nothing more rewarding than to see all your efforts and hard work pay off and to see how everything finally comes together!

Christmas Woodland Inspiration

Wedding Design

Oh holiday season, how we love thee so. It’s the time of year when we’re drawn to woodsy settings, deep reds, and snowy romance – all of which can be found in this styled shoot sent over by Callie Hobbs Photography. Let’s all make a nice mug of marshmallow-y cocoa and take in this beauty, shall we?

christmas woodland inspiration via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Callie Hobbs: I fell in love with this shoot before it even started. We planned it knowing there would mostly likely be snow and that was thrilling to us. The morning started with a necessary change in location due to weather conditions, however, Utah is such a beautiful place it was easy to find another dreamy spot. The snow falling and pine tree combination created a magical feeling of romance without us even having to try.

I kept a crisp, colorful look to the photos as we aimed to keep the decor elegant with the classic pops of red, green, and gold adding neutrals to the palette to keep it sweet and simple. The couple was amazing! Lydia and Dallas. They were beautiful, classy, and the perfect fit for our shoot. Lydia’s look was just what we had envisioned from the flow of her dress to her rose gold ring all the way to her long brunette hair that wholly showed off the headpiece beautifully created by E-flowers. We wanted to show the variation of this wintry look by dressing it up with the fur jacket or keeping it casual with the flannel button down.

Blacksmith Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Today’s styled wedding shoot just goes to show you can find inspiration in unlimited places. Tyler of Tyler Rye Photography formed this shoot after seeing an anvil in a farmer’s work shed. He brought Swoon Vintage Rental Co. and Floral Design by Erin on board to help complete his vision, and the rest is photo shoot history!

blacksmith inspired wedding ideas // via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Tyler Rye: Forged was inspired by a simple Anvil. I was working at a farmer’s house and happened to look over and see his Anvil setting on a stand near his shed. It clicked in my mind how cool it would be to do a Black Smith themed wedding shoot. I started that day to gather antique smithing tools – everything from hammers to smelting tools. The couple that modeled are friends of my wife. They have been married for two years and this was a great way for them to reconnect as a couple. The location has been a dream spot for me ever since my wife and I had our Engagement pictures taken there 3 years ago! I had a lot of help getting this shoot ready and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my wife. Not only did she do the hair for the model, but she arranged both the tables and made them look amazing.

Brave Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Inspired by the movie Brave, this styled shoot styled by Tweedt Weddings with photography by Emily Crall Photography captured the essence and aesthetics of this Pixar animation to a t. The overall mood of this tablescape has a little bit of that mystic yet ethereal vibe combined with woodsy details that hmm hmm hmm! Adorable. The bride completely steals the spotlight, making for one gorgeous grownup Merida!

Brave Inspired Shoot // photo by Emily Crall via Ruffled

I just knew when I first saw that Disney movie that I wanted to photograph a styled-shoot based on this strong, brave woman and the rich Scottish culture. I got to work with the greatest group of vendors to pull this all off, including authentic Scottish pastries! The weather turned out less than ideal (we got a huge snowstorm the week of the shoot), but we made it work and I ended up loving the drifts of snow that landed right where we were setting up the table. Because the movie Brave focused so much on a mother/daughter relationship, we chose not to use a “groom” model for the shoot and simply focus on our “bride”, Felicia.

Winter Wonderland Inspiration Shoot

Wedding Design

A winter wedding with a generous dose of pink and gray — well that’s right up my alley! Joy of JoyFoley Weddings worked with Becky Veasy of Just For You Photography to capture this winter wonderland styled shoot, which has no shortage of stylish floral arrangements thanks to Cory Christopher and Dasee Floral Boutique. Pop in a blush pink wedding gown from Lazaro and you’ve got some happy wedding bloggers!

From the stylist, Joy of JoyFoley Weddings: The idea for creating this winter wonderland shoot came simply from wanting to inspire brides. We wanted to create a beautiful palette out of pinks, white and silver and show brides that winter weddings don’t always have to incorporate colors you think they should. The shoot location was a beautiful frozen lake in Beaumont, Alberta, Canada. The table and chairs used for the shoot were purchased for $50 and were sanded and refinished. The vanity (I wish I could show you the before) is my Baba’s {grandmother} from 1954 and I spent many hours sanding off the old paint and white washing it. I wanted to incorporate vintage elements with modern elements to get the true feeling of Shabby Chic. The florals were created by Cory Christopher of Dasee Floral Boutique. He and his team took my vision, combined theirs and created something beautiful, soft and so romantic.

Our models were prepped by my all star female team consisting of BeautifulU Makeup Artistry by Tamara Leeder and Sara Murphy of Flaunt Salon. Jade’s gorgeous dress is the Lazaro 3108 in Blush from Delica Bridal. Accessories from stylist. Kyle’s grey tuxedo and classic accents come from Derks Formals. His pocket watch belonged to my GiGi {grandfather} and was gifted to my dad when he passed away a few years ago. It was very special to me to have it be incorporated in to the shoot. And behind the lens is magic worker Becky Veasy owner of Just For You Photography. Becky is a visionary when it comes to photography. Her use of soft natural light and ability to give direction is nothing short of amazing. I have been a fan of Becky’s for quite some time and was thrilled to finally have the chance to work with her.

We know Christmas is just around the corner, so we’re here to spread a bit more holiday cheer. Artist collective based out of Dallas, Grit and Gold put together this incredible ‘winter woodland’ inspiration, complete with evergreen branches decorating the chairs and a fun sled photobooth backdrop. Thank you Couture Events by Lottie, Nine Photography and We + You Studios for the gorgeous party inspiration!

From the designer, Lottie: This is the first shoot in our new design studio with our Grit + Gold team. Inspired for Christmas, our shoot’s setting and feel was winter woodsy. Touches of antlers can be found throughout from stationery and centerpieces, to the unbelievably beautiful antler and floral head piece. We had fun designing the setups which included a cocoa display and champagne bar. The sweet treats were the perfect feel of handmade goodness that evokes the feeling of “home”.

California Winter Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Whenever we see snow in wedding pictures, it’s almost as though it adds a mystical quality to the wedding itself, and this wedding sent over by Jennifer Eileen is absolutely no exception. Brett and Brandon married in the mountains of California during a particularly snowy January, and we have to say the weather meshed pretty perfectly with their wedding aesthetic. Don’t miss their mason jar snow globes or the cold-weather animal table numbers!

snow winter wedding

From the photographer, Jennifer: My all time favorite thing about photographing weddings is when I click so well with a client that a friendship is created. That is exactly what happened with Brett & Brandon. Brett is uber cute, uber talented, and uber fun. Her creativity knows no bounds. Paired with her now sister-in-law, this duo can pull off the most fantastic moments. Brett built her wedding off of the song “January Wedding” by Avett Brothers. Therefore Brett and Brandon were wed in the mountains, in January, on the first major snow of the season. It was utterly beautiful.

Their wedding is chock full of DIY details! I loved their chalkboard escort table, the homemade mason jar snow globes, the canned peaches which were the favors, the hand drawn table numbers, the flowers that Brett (the bride) did were just so stunning, and the dessert table was not only beautiful but delicious! Also, I have to mention, the clips in Brett’s hair, her mom’s hair, and her sister’s hair were all made by Inglenook from Brett’s mom’s wedding dress. Such a lovely touch.

Get your cocoa ready. Photographer Dallas Curow captured this gem of a winter wedding shoot, filled with emerald tones and metallic golds enough to sweep everyone off their feet. With expert styling from Elyse Cragg and a cake by The Cake Whisperer that makes our hearts flutter, we can’t think of a better way to officially welcome December than with this shimmering snowy shoot!

winter wedding fashion

From the photographer, Dallas: Canadian winters can have a savage beauty. On the coldest days, the skies are vivid blue and the sun sparkles off the ice-encrusted streets. Though the bitterest days of winter certainly make a person long for the gentler seasons, there’s something wonderfully cozy about gathering with family and friends in a warm room in the depth of winter. Escaping the cold on a special occasion brings you even closer together, and somehow heightens the sense of merriment! We wanted to show engaged couples how beautiful a winter wedding can be for those daring enough to consider one.

We sought to showcase the lovely juxtaposition between portraits in the blue, cold light of winter and a reception in a warm room under the glittering light of antique chandeliers. The design was inspired by the silver and gold sparkle of snow, and the timeless opulence of a chateau. To create affordable centerpieces with impact, we collected fallen branches and spray-painted them gold. We assembled guest favours by wrapping several different types of treats (chocolate-covered pretzels, painted gold; green tea and mint truffles; gold dragées) in beautiful paper. We also cozied up bottles of wine in knitted wine sleeves by Paper and Parcel.

Woodsy Winter Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

This wedding from Alberta, Canada is quirky and sweet in all the right ways. Brett and Tara are environmental scientists who share a love of — wait for it — taxidermy. Bride Tara wanted to build a makeshift forest into the wedding reception, an idea that was brought to life with the help of Jennifer Bergman Weddings and shot by Diamond Cake Photography. The bride’s wedding bouquet was made of a mix of wooden and real flowers, making it a perfect keepsake for years to come!

bride and groom in snow

From the bride, Tara: Brett and I are both environmental scientists and nature lovers, so to have a nature theme was an easy choice for us. Having a winter wedding was always a dream of ours, but that meant that we had to bring the outdoors indoors to bring our nature wedding to life, including building a forest at our reception. Despite Brett thinking that I was a bit crazy, he went along with this idea, and with the help of friends and family we made a photobooth that incorporated trees, faux snow, taxidermy, and a vintage green loveseat that I found at a thrift store. Our reception venue was the Freemason’s Hall, which had been originally built to be a theatre, so the stage was the perfect setting to create our forest. It turned out amazingly, and our guests had so much fun with it.

Other nature elements that we had at the wedding were animal themed tables, a forest floor sign-in table, homemade jam guest favors made from native berries, and a cake with a cascade of reclaimed wood flowers. In return for the traditional clinking of the glasses we asked that our guests go up and imitate an animal call; a college friend had the most impressive when she did her infamous elk call.

For music we chose songs that we held dear from different times of our relationship. Luckily my sister’s boyfriend is an amazing guitar player and was willing to play for our ceremony. The songs we chose were a mix of The Beatles, Death Cab for Cutie, and The Tea Party and The Verve. Our first dance was a duet by Dave Grohl and Nora Jones called Virginia Moon.

My advice to any other couples is to make it your own and don’t worry about tradition. Find those things that make you unique as a couple and run with them! It’s like my sister said during her wedding speech, “I’m so glad you two found each other, who else knows another couple that shares a love for taxidermy?”
