An Engagement Session in the Bride’s Grandmother’s Dress

Engagement Sessions

For their engagement session, that was captured by Alixann Loosle Photography, the bride and groom-to-be–Kaleigh and Christopher–pulled out some of their finest closet picks and frolicked in beautiful Salt Lake City weather and scenery. The sweetest fixture in their entire engagement shoot (besides those lovely cherry blossoms, of course) is the addition of the bride’s second outfit change, which was a dress that belonged to her grandmother. Let’s take a look:

engagement session ideas photo by Alixann Loosle Photography http://ruffledblog.com/an-engagement-session-in-the-brides-grandmothers-dress

From the photographer, Alixann Loosle Photography: I’d love to share some lovely, classically beautiful, cherry blossom engagement photos that I shot. I love that the second dress that the bride-to-be wore was her grandma’s. She used to play dress-up with it when she was young!

Romantic Forest Wedding

Romantic Weddings

There are few things that make me happier than an enchanted wedding in the forest. Today’s couple held their ceremony indoors and then made their way to a tree-filled reception with chandeliers, a variet of cakes, and the most beautiful color palette of purples, mauve, and greens. Thank you to Jessica Janae Photography, Rachael Ellen Events, and Soil and Stem for your work here!

Romantic Forest Wedding - photo by Jessica Janae Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-forest-wedding

From the event designer, Rachael of Rachael Ellen Events: This wedding was the perfect mix of feminine romance and fun. The dinner was set in a romantic forest setting up Milcreek canyon in Salt Lake City, Utah. The guests enjoyed live music and season dinner while the bridal party toasted the high school sweetheart couple. The bride wore a blush gown complemented by shades of mauve, lavender and purple. Chandeliers hung from the trees to give the forest a magical romantic feel. This wedding is a wonderful example of an intimate outdoor gathering focused on a garden-forest inspired feel.

Salt Lake City Hardware Company Wedding

Romantic Weddings

I never tire of seeing grooms with great style, and with his checkered blue shirt and on-trend undercut ‘do, he definitely fits the bill. Green Apple Photography and Flower Afternoon + Decor captured Taylor and Hayden’s vision perfectly, utilizing an industrial reception space and bringing in lush floral design complete with one of our favorite accents, berries!

Salt Lake City hardware company wedding - photo by Green Apple Photography http://ruffledblog.com/salt-lake-city-hardware-company-wedding

From the photographer, Lindsey of Green Apple Photography: The ceremony was at the Logan, Utah LDS Temple, and the reception was in an old hardware building, turned offices, in Salt Lake City. I loved Hayden’s blue checked shirt and blue suit, and Taylor’s beautiful flowers with berries. Val from Flower Afternoon did all the decor and flowers, and brought in summer berries in all the floral arrangements. It was a sweet wedding, with lots of simple details (honey pots for all the guests!)

Minimalist Sand Dunes Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

A minimalist wedding scene in a desert setting is just what the doctor ordered today, and we’re happy to provide the goods from D’Arcy Benincosa Photography and Flower Afternoon. This incredible shoot was done all on film, adding a certain air of mystique and grace. This one’s guaranteed to be a classic for years!

minimalist sand dunes wedding inspiration - photo by D'Arcy Benincosa Photography http://ruffledblog.com/minimalist-sand-dunes-wedding-inspiration

From the florist, Flower Afternoon: Utah’s landscapes are so diverse! We decided to venture out into the Little Sahara sand dunes for some desert tropic inspiration. The lines of all of the dunes are my favorite part; they give a feeling of movement. The wind was really blowing that day, which made for some really stunning shots. Many people think, “Oh no! Not wind!,” but it really added to the overall mood and made that veil and dress blow so beautifully.

wedding dress back - photo by D'Arcy Benincosa Photography http://ruffledblog.com/minimalist-sand-dunes-wedding-inspiration

The ceremony set-up is a modern, low to the ground design involving different varieties of tropical leafs that fan out in a half circle to surround the bride and groom. I love this approach to modern day ceremonies rather than a traditional arch. Elizabeth Dye sent us an elegant gown with a bohemian/hippie flare. We paired this dress with a natural cut Herkimer diamond ring, necklace and cuff designed specially for the shoot by The Land Of Salt. The tabletop is designed with different natural elements and neutral tones. The wooden bud vases were made by Missouri-based artist Collin Garrity, who makes all of his pieces one at a time and no two are alike. These vases add an artisan-like quality to the space. The flowers give a gentle contrast in different shades of yellow and green against the rest of the table while keeping the entire look cohesive. Pippa Cakery designed a creamy, textured cake with a slate-colored icing. I chose to continue the desert tropic theme with succulents and monstera leaves.

From the photographer, D’Arcy Benincosa: One of the reasons I live in Utah is because of it’s diversity of landscape. From blue lakes, green parks, red rocks, salt flats, and these amazing sand dunes–it’s no wonder that Utah is one of the most highly rated Wedding and Destination Wedding locations. The soft sun on a summer day makes it perfect for capturing film photography. I loved the vastness of this shoot, with a concentration on a neutral and elegant theme, I can see brides with a taste for flair and passion going after a vast landscape to make their nuptials memorable and different.

Handcrafted Wedding at Trolley Square

Romantic Weddings

With a gold and blush color palette and a creative bride, a warehouse wedding never looked so good! Captured by Pepper Nix Photography, this event focuses on the gorgeous venue keeping all the decor soft and sweet. We adore the gold accent detailing on the wedding cake!

handcrafted wedding at Trolley Square - photo by Pepper Nix Photography http://ruffledblog.com/handcrafted-wedding-at-trolley-square

From the bride, Montana: When I started planning my wedding I knew I wanted it to have a unique and romantic feel. I didn’t want to use a venue that had been used before because I wanted a once-in-a-lifetime wedding. After countless hours of trying to find the perfect location for my wedding, my mom and I were driving through Salt Lake City and I turned to her and said … “What about Trolley Square?” Both of us had never heard of a wedding taken place at Trolley Square so we did not know if that could even be a possibility, so we had to try. We immediately went into the office at Trolley Square and proposed our crazy idea… The management looked at us a little hesitant and said, “no one has ever attempted it but you could rent out one of the old building spaces… but you will have to do everything, from the lighting to the draping… that would be all up to you.” We were elated, we knew we could take a space and turn it into our dream venue… months and months went into planning how we were going to make this space work, and on the day of the wedding it was perfect, just how I had always dreamed! Our décor consisted long wood farm tables, hundreds upon hundreds of gold votives, beautiful flowers and bistro lights…

Inspiration for the color palette and design: My color palette was gold, ivory, and light pink – I wanted to keep it very simple and romantic. The whole venue was a DIY – one of my favorite projects was the way the C and the M were hung in old door frames… it took us a while to figure out how we were going to make those letters float in that space, we ended up creating a frame, stretching burlap across it and attaching the letters… this was probably my favorite part of décor of the wedding… I think it went along with the venue and space so well.

Handmade Utah Wedding at a Pink Cottage

Vintage Weddings

A short lace wedding dress sewn by your mother and marrying your beau outside a little pink cottage — does it get better than this? Brooke Schultz Photography, Charming Details, and Flower Afternoon put together some of their best work to bring us Kendra and Jeff’s wedding day, which is full of sweet little details but still intimate enough to feel like a heartfelt get-together among friends.

From the photographer, Brooke Schultz Photography: Kendra and Jeff wanted their wedding day to be completely relaxed, without stress so they could drink in every moment. So, they opted to have the reception the day before! They filled their wedding with sweet, handmade details, like Kendra’s wedding dress sewn by her mother, the ‘love you always’ patch added by Kendra on the back of Jeff’s tie, and the guestbook hand painted by the bride’s sister.

Kendra + Jeff found the perfect venue in This is The Place’s Brigham house, an adorable pink cottage with a gazebo fit for dancing. Vintage with a modern twist, Emmily with Charming Details and Val with Flower Afternoon created an old door backdrop prettied up by a floral garland. Guests took photos for the guest book in front of it and it did double duty for some beautiful bride and groom portraits as well. Despite the fact that it rained cats and dogs both days of their wedding celebration, they weren’t bothered and let themselves truly enjoy their wedding.

Incredible Handcrafted Wedding in Salt Lake City

DIY Weddings

Today’s wedding is so full of amazing ideas, you’ll be sure to return to it time and time again. D’Arcy Benincosa Photography captured Ben and Amber’s wedding in Salt Lake City, and as you’ll be able to see from these images, Amber is a natural crafter at heart. She handmade not one but two brilliant backdrop walls, and the rest of the details followed suit with amazing creativity.

From the bride, Amber: I know you’ve heard the saying “I feel like the luckiest girl in the world” time and time again, but guys, I felt like the absolute luckiest lady when my groom slipped that engagement ring on my finger and asked me to be his wife. Not only did I get to marry one of the most wonderful human beings on the planet, I got to plan and execute a wedding! A wedding to me is like a fantasy land where creativity, design, music, fashion, family, and friends all get meshed together in one amazing little package. As a self proclaimed “craftster” & “DIYer”, I was overflowing with ideas as to what my wedding day could become.

My husband and I became engaged exactly one year and a day before our wedding date. The nice thing about being engaged the full year before we were married is that I was able to pick a wedding venue and see what it would roughly look like the next fall. The choice was not hard, as our venue was completely gorgeous on its own, having both outdoor and indoor elements. However, I wanted to add those extra DIY crafty elements that made the space really feel like it was “ours”. In fact, before picking our venue, we had talked about renting out a warehouse space for several months to completely customize, but my mom put the brakes on that idea [and thankfully, mother knows best (sometimes)]. Lucky for us too, our venue was absolutely happy to accommodate any crazy idea we threw their way. I remember when I sat down to come up with the decor/installation elements for the wedding I wrote down “textured.” I love the look and feel of using different materials, sizes, and colors right next to each other. By the time I had finished all of my projects for the wedding I was actually concerned that it all wouldn’t look good or cohesive because I had brought in so many different elements (even so much that we had to rent a U-Haul to get all of it to the venue), but much to my relief everything looked amazing and it felt like it had transformed into our own little wonderland.

My favorite thing about Fall, and one of the main reasons I picked it for us to get married, is all of the beautiful saturated colors. I remember when I told our venue coordinator all of the colors that I would be using her eyes went wide, and she said “that’s a lot of colors.” (Her eyes went even bigger when I told her I was bringing not just one, but two “walls” in.) I should tell you that throughout our wedding planning process I never really listened to the advice that most people or popularity gave me (because everyone wants to give you advice). If you want fourteen colors to your wedding, have them. If you want huge displays, make them. My favorite part of the wedding was that it was distinctly mine, I did exactly what I wanted (budget permitting) and in the end I felt so good about the choices I had made. Now, if you are planning a wedding, I’m not telling you to be a bridezilla, but make sure to make yourself happy! It’s your special day after all!

Our ceremony was wonderful, my legs shook the whole time out of nerves, but luckily it was cold enough everybody thought I was just cold (which it really was). The groom and I wrote our own ceremony with the help of the officiant, which was good because we knew exactly what was happening next and kept our composure for the most of it (we’re both a bit tender-hearted). Our ceremony then led into a Soup Bar dinner, and a marvelous reception. We wanted to make sure that our wedding reception would be one to remember, and that our guests would be thoroughly entertained, so instead of doing a “money dance” the groom and I opted to take a note from Jimmy Fallon and we competed in our very first love song Lip Sync Battle. Our guests absolutely loved the “super secret surprise” and it gave family and guests from far away that don’t know us well a chance to see our hilarious competitive side. For the rest of the night we did what my husband does best, and danced the night away.

With a greenery backdrop in a loose diamond design, plenty of French desserts, and an incredible embellished gown from Bree Lena topped off with a floral crown, every bit is styled to utter perfection by photographers Lori Romney Photography and Jennifer Fauset Photography.

From the photographers, Lori Romney and Jennifer Fauset: As photographers, we loved creating this romantic, cozy, Valentine’s inspired shoot in the warmth of our Salt Lake City studio. We used a color story of pinks, reds and golds. Since Valentine’s Day makes us think of sweet treats, everything about this photo shoot was based around these amazing and delicious pastries. Our pastry chef, Dani with The Petite Pastry, went all out! The gorgeous color of her sumptuous treats made our table drip with romance. Dani amazed us with her “not cake” cakes, and this cream puff cake was divine! It added texture and interest to our entire event. Everyone involved kept sneaking the pink almond heart shaped cookies. YUM! We wanted the desserts to shine, so we asked our floral design contributor to help us with understated floral arrangements to tie in the Valentine theme. The vine wall was our favorite part! It was made from Eucalyptus that smelled of perfection. It added warmth and beauty to our walls.

The dress was another very important item on our check list! We knew that we wanted sophisticated and romantic. Bree Lena is such a talent and her designs are amazing. This one of a kind dress was a new design she is working on for Provo Fashion Week and we were lucky enough to get to use it, just hours after she finished making it! It is simply stunning. The elegance of this backless gown, mixed with the stunning beaded fabric, looked flawless on our model, Abby. This dress is so intricate, laced with heavy beads, it couldn’t even be hung on a hanger! She brought it to the studio folded up perfectly in a box.

From the pastry chef, The Petite Pastry: Since returning from my fairytale surprise honeymoon in Paris, the city of romance, I have been flirting with the idea of a French-themed table scape full of delicate, sweet aphrodisiac—sweet nothings that inspire and cultivate love. In the limelight is the classic croquembouche, a traditional French wedding “cake” that was created for royalty. A croquembouche is a tower of creme-filled cream puffs held together by caramel and spun sugar. Classic French cookies of all varieties were brought in as supporting cast, including chocolate-dipped pirouettes, brown-butter madelines, strawberry-meringue rosettes, eclairs, almond icebox hearts, and assorted rosewater macaroons.

And just because there wasn’t a traditional wedding cake doesn’t mean didn’t mean we missed out. Oh, there was cake. The classic French opera cake consists of layered jaconde cake soaked in espresso syrup, coffee buttercream, topped with mirror glaze and edible 24k gold leaf was made into bite-sized petite four shapes and paired with chocolate-covered strawberries. Other cakes included a freestanding white chocolate creme cake finished with fresh strawberries and white chocolate shavings, and mini chocolate angel food bundt cakes. As you can see, this sweet table adds to the ambiance of romance and beauty that the couple radiates. I think this French-inspired wedding is one for the history books.

Barbie Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

If you tried to tell me that a Barbie-inspired wedding shoot could be both fun and sophisticated, I’d have a difficult time believing you – that is, until I saw this styled shoot from Mikki Platt Photography. The secret? Tackling Barbie and Ken as an elegant adult couple, Barbara and Kenneth. We’re still having a difficult time recovering from the beauty of Blossom Sweet‘s floral arrangements, bursting with gorgeous pinks and purples!

From the photographer, Mikki Platt: I am so excited to share this editorial shoot with you! It’s a modern take on every little girl’s favorite couple, “Barbie & Ken,” all grown up as Barbara and Kenneth. We took the essentials of America’s glamorous sweetheart and her dream boy, and created an elegant, classic and blithe celebration of blonde hair, pink heels, and Barbie’s perfect accessory (second only to her man), a Corvette!

I invite you to gush over the stunning florals, gorgeous ruffled gown, chic getaway mini-dress and the scrumptious 34-flavor donut bar. This shoot was inspired by my mother’s own innocent childhood obsession with Barbies. And since I welcomed a new baby girl into my home this year, it’s only fitting that I jump head first into the world of pretty and pink.

Backyard Chic Utah Wedding

Garden Weddings

If you have a deep love for Claire Pettibone wedding gowns like I do, you’re in for one heck of a treat today. Maddie and Gray celebrated their love with a soft and romantic wedding in the bride’s parents’ backyard, bringing along Pepper Nix Photography to capture every detail and nuance.

backyard utah wedding // via ruffledblog.com

From the bride, Maddie: We really wanted our wedding to feel subtle, soft, romantic but still have some fun glitz. I knew we wanted some kind of installation wall at the back of the tent, preferably wood, to ground the whole thing and really set the mood. We wanted rustic, but not burlap or hay… more earthy and romantic… more of an old vineyard or winery kind of rustic. I wanted wood and gold accents and lots of flowers and twinkly lights.

Jen came up with this fantastic idea of having our wood wall have lots of little shelves to hold candles, flowers, etc. She also thought of applying gold leaf and painting our monogram on it in white. It was just magical. The shelves holding the candles and spilling flowers was just beautiful. It perfectly fit the idea I was trying to convey, which was a sort of messy mix of earthy, romantic, Great Gatsby and woodsy all at the same time. And the gold leaf just sealed the deal! Adding it to the table numbers has to be one of my favorite little touches of the whole wedding!

I knew I wanted a subtle color palette that was romantic and soft. I wanted to let the flowers pop and really not take away from the garden. We didn’t want strong accent colors or something color to be the focal point. We wanted the whole thing to mix together into a sort of ethereal wash of twinkly lights and soft flowers, without being interrupted by intense pops of color. The colors acted as a backdrop, not the defining feature. The goal was to have them complement and recede behind some of our other decor features, like the wood wall backdrop and the gold leaf.

Christmas Woodland Inspiration

Wedding Design

Oh holiday season, how we love thee so. It’s the time of year when we’re drawn to woodsy settings, deep reds, and snowy romance – all of which can be found in this styled shoot sent over by Callie Hobbs Photography. Let’s all make a nice mug of marshmallow-y cocoa and take in this beauty, shall we?

christmas woodland inspiration via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Callie Hobbs: I fell in love with this shoot before it even started. We planned it knowing there would mostly likely be snow and that was thrilling to us. The morning started with a necessary change in location due to weather conditions, however, Utah is such a beautiful place it was easy to find another dreamy spot. The snow falling and pine tree combination created a magical feeling of romance without us even having to try.

I kept a crisp, colorful look to the photos as we aimed to keep the decor elegant with the classic pops of red, green, and gold adding neutrals to the palette to keep it sweet and simple. The couple was amazing! Lydia and Dallas. They were beautiful, classy, and the perfect fit for our shoot. Lydia’s look was just what we had envisioned from the flow of her dress to her rose gold ring all the way to her long brunette hair that wholly showed off the headpiece beautifully created by E-flowers. We wanted to show the variation of this wintry look by dressing it up with the fur jacket or keeping it casual with the flannel button down.

Fresh Salt Lake City Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

We just adore the ingenuity of this couple’s wedding planning process — tired of the same old reception foods and choices, Ashley and Dylan chose some of their favorite foods and drinks for their post-ceremony party, including some sparkling Izze drinks. We’re delighted by how well the drinks tied into the overall theme of the wedding, adding little pops of color around the day! Every gorgeous image was captured by Alixann Loosle who is sharing them with us.

brightly colored drinks

From the bride, Ashley: Our theme was elegant yet simple with a colorful vintage touch. We chose a couple of elements to focus our efforts on that gave it a personal touch. The bride’s mom, grandma, and aunts spent countless afternoons hunting for the collection of vintage vases that were used for centerpieces and around the reception. I loved that each vase was unique and it was so fun to mix and match them to give each table a eclectic, yet uniform and simple look that let the gorgeous flowers shine.

Also, I loved that the pom garland gave the reception a fun pop of color. It was a DIY project by my mother. A big effort, but it gave it a pop of color without having too many decorations. Also, I am glad we splurged a little on the gold chiavari chairs. It was worth the extra money since they actually added an element of elegance to the decor so it was kind of a two for one. Something that was important to us was to have the food represent what we love to eat instead of just having the typical wedding reception food. We love finding new pizza restaurants so having wood fired pizza, Izze sodas, and his and her desserts was a perfect representation of us and what we like.

New Year’s Eve Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Every once in a while we hear a love story that appears to be straight out of a movie screenplay — Christina and Brandon’s story is definitely that, and it’s guaranteed to start your weekend off on a sweet note! The newlyweds planned this gorgeous wedding in a whopping two weeks, recruiting the help of Brooke from Blush Photography to capture the stunning day. You’ll want to take a few minutes to soak in this precious story:

brown wedding shoes
bride in black and white

From the bride, Christina: So I have a rash romantic love story. We grew up in the same neighborhood. Our families were lifetime friends. His mom tricked him into asking me out and we had the best date of our lives – we laughed the entire time. He lived in Las Vegas, I lived in Salt Lake so, we just texted and talked every chance we got. A few weeks after our first date, I got this crazy idea to drive to Vegas at 11 o’clock at night and surprise him. While I was on the phone, driving (with my headset on) I crashed after hitting black ice, spinning off the road and into a ditch 30 feet below, my car completely totaled. As soon as he found out what had happened, he jumped in his car and drove 7 plus hours through the snow and ice to get to me. We he finally arrived, he told me me how crazy in love he was and that my near death experience made him realize that I couldn’t live without me. Without this lucid moment he never would have been able to tell me that he loved me. We both knew we we were meant to be.

Two weeks later he proposed and though we thought initially we would get married in 5 or 6 months, we soon realized that was an absolutely ridiculous idea and instead decided to get married in a few weeks. We were so in love, there wasn’t any point in starting the new year without each other.

Everything fell perfectly into place. We really didn’t have to do much planning because whenever there was a need, there was someone there to help. Like magic. We called La Caille and asked about New Years Eve. They had had a couple cancel for that date just an hour before we called. I found my dress in a half hour. Brandon found his suit just as quickly and it fit him perfectly- also the very last one in the store! Our photographer was available, the florist and the videographer. All were available on such short notice. I was really blown away by the beauty of it all. We were so blessed.

From our first date to our wedding date was only 50 days. We planned every detail of our beautiful day in 2 weeks. We were and continue to be truly blessed in our love. We are so incredibly happy and so thankful for everyone that helped us on our special day. The florist, the photographer, the videographer and his team, etc were so amazing. All such wonderful people! We all have our “dream wedding” in mind, but mine surpassed everything I ever imagined.

From the stylist, Petal Pixie: The inspiration from this shoot came from the woods and the magic that can come from within their depths. Avenia Bridal provided a beautiful feather tiered skirt designed by Liancarlo. Our male model sported a pant and shirt combo with suspenders, simple and natural. Nicole Cook and Kali Wengreen created an intricate side braid. Kali kept the makeup soft and simple. Alexis June Creative designed the stunning paper suite! I love the soft look of the gold and cream with the touches of navy.

Petal Pixie tied everything together by combining a simple rustic romance with the styling and floral. The flowers where housed in bronzed containers as well as mercury glass. I wanted to use a nontraditional color palette that was rustic as well as soft and romantic. I chose white, soft pink, navy blue, and copper orange blooms. The flowers used were hydrangeas, ranunculus, orchids, roses, and tulips.

RSVP Rentals provided us with the vineyard table along with the bronzed handled silverware and delicate glassware. The cake table was a combination of three stunning butter cream cakes designed by Cake-A-Licious and gourmet donuts provided by Gimme Sugar Catering. Alixann Loosli Photography captured the style and details of this shoot to perfection. Her use of light brought a romantic glow and created magic! She is a dream to work with and her images speak for themselves. Salt Lake City Garden Wedding

This Salt Lake City from Lindsey Stewart of Green Apple Photography fuses the best of both worlds: an outdoor garden ceremony with an ultra elegant indoor reception. We love their guests wore they favorite 20s inspired frocks, complete with some seriously amazing headpieces the ladies made at Laura’s bachelorette party. Wait until you see Laura’s stunning bouquet, complete with amaranth and loose twigs!

Laura and Alister: Wedding Submission

From the bride, Laura: We wanted a sophisticated feel in a nonfussy, earthy style… warm and inviting but still luxurious. Our color scheme for the ceremony was white + all shades of green… the reception was held in a very nice old house so no decor was necessary! DIY elements included wedding programs and our wedding favors.

From the photographer, Lindsey of Green Apple Photography: Laura and Alister had their ceremony up in the Wasatch Mountains, at the Groom’s cabin and then their reception at a historic home in Salt Lake City. A couple of things I really loved about this wedding were the amazing hats everyone wore to the Ceremony. Laura and Alister invited everyone to wear their best hat attire, and part of her bachelorette party was making some of these gorgeous creations. Their reception was at an historic home, and so many of their guests also dressed up in their best 1920’s style. It was so fun to see everyone show up. Laura’s sister-in-law owns a winery, and created a custom wine especially for Laura and Alister’s wedding. It was a gorgeous wedding, full of style, personality and love.

Intimate Salt Lake City Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Bride Tracie described her vision for her wedding day as “vintage elegance.” All you need is one quick glance at these photos from Allison Cox, and it’s abundantly clear she achieved this vision — along with some key assistance from three sisters and a highly talented mother. We absolutely adore the simplicity of Tracie’s pink and yellow bouquet! Don’t miss the rest of the images in the gallery.

From the bride, Tracie: I am a huge fan of all things vintage so I knew that is what I wanted our wedding day to feel like. Luckily I have three sisters and a mom who all have great taste, so it was easy to get good input. I wanted it to feel vintage, but also be very clean and elegant.

intimate lds vintage weddingintimate lds vintage wedding

Our wedding was very clean, charming, and of course, vintage! I stuck with ivory, black, grey and different hues of pink to get the overall feel we wanted. Not only do my mom and sisters have great input, but they are also very talented. My sister designed our invites from random floral images I liked. She also painted our cake toppers from a blank set of Russian dolls that I bought at Hobby Lobby. And my mom was sweet enough to make our wedding cake! I couldn’t have done it without them.

We didn’t have to worry about anything. It was so nice for my husband and I and our families to enjoy the whole day together. Plus they clean everything up!

We’re always so tickled when our brides find useful items via Ruffled- whether it’s DIY projects from the contest, unique dress styles, amazing wedding professionals, or decor ideas. Alyssa, the gorgeous bride, was able to integrate all kinds of vintage-inspired projects into her wedding to Noah this past year and we think the end result is just the sweetest. I love the aesthetic behind all of the film photos from Green Apple Photography as well. Crisp, clean and totally gorgeous.

From the bride, Alyssa: I wanted our wedding to embody a rustic vintage feel. Almost all of the details involved in our wedding were DIY projects. I made my brooch bouquet, bridesmaids bouquets, decorations, our pinata, centerpieces, etc. We didn’t have specific colors but we had a common color scheme of creams and pastels.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? My advice would be have one detail like the dress or an object be inspiration for the rest of your wedding details. That helped me keep everything mesh well together.

Jace and Alex’s wedding, captured by Darla Roze Photography, brought the outside in with gorgeous garden details. The florals were so lush and stunning. I’ve got total bouquet envy going on over here! In addition to the garden feel, there were tons of sweet details like a sundae bar fashioned after an old fashion ice cream parlour, a fun DIY photo booth, and a recurring silhouette motif.

More from the bride:

I had always wanted an outside wedding, but the weather is too hard to work around so we brought the outside inside with a outside/garden park feel.

I am in love with paper lanterns. We put lights and lanterns up in the room to give it an outside feel.

I wanted a photo booth where the guests could put on some vintage props, use picture frames and capture a picture of them at our wedding. The DIY program we used was See Monkey. It was the perfect program to set up using a laptop, camera and tripod and printer. Guest snapped pictures, it printed two sets on a 4×6 sheet. One they left in the guest book with a note to us and the other they took home to remember the fun evening.

Relax and enjoy everything…you plan forever and then in one day its all over, so just enjoy it!
