Grown Up and Elegant Pink Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Laura Ivanova

When your soon-to-be proposes to you in front of Cinderella’s castle at Disney World, it makes sense that you’d want to add some fairy tale elements into your wedding day in tribute. Laura Ivanova captured the wedding of Ashley and Jon, a couple who made sure their big day was totally infused with their personalities and loves. This included a heaping portion of pink blooms put together by Sadie’s Couture Floral & Event Styling, ranging from roses to anemones to the all-time wedding favorite, peonies.

Elegant Calhoun Beach Club Wedding - http://ruffledblog.com/elegant-calhoun-beach-club-wedding

From the bride, Ashley: We wanted the entire day to be a reflection of our personalities and our relationship. Jon has always been traditional and a bit old-fashioned, whereas I tend to like things that are trendy and unique, so our wedding was a combination of our two styles. We also kept things fun and playful by adding in details that were special to us. Jon proposed in front of Cinderella’s Castle in Disney World, so we had fun creating a bit of a fairy tale theme to go along with that; my Hayley Paige gown (I called it my princess dress) and our ‘happily ever after’ cake topper were two places you can see that. Additionally, we had both lived our entire lives in Minnesota but knew that we would be moving to New Orleans shortly after the wedding, so we tried to throw in some very Minnesotan details where we could to celebrate the state we love so much! Our venues were situated in our favorite spot on the lakes in Minneapolis, just blocks from our apartment building. Taking pictures on the beach where we had walked so many times before felt special and almost surreal. Jon and I are huge hockey fans and one of our favorite things to do together is go to Wild hockey games so my parents surprised us by having the Wild mascot show up during our cocktail hour. Having him there was a huge hit with guests and the pictures that we got are priceless!

Pink has always been my favorite color so it was an easy choice for my flowers. My parents also had a pink wedding 30 years ago and their marriage means so much to me, so I wanted to give a nod to that. I am proud that even as a medical student, I managed to plan and execute a lot of the wedding details on my own! Two projects that I am really proud of are the Mr. and Mrs. signs for the back of our chairs at the reception and the table of photos displaying our parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Have fun with the planning! Try to throw in little details that are unique to YOU! I think it’s great to find inspiration from other weddings online and in magazines, but at the end of the day you should look at your wedding day and be able to say that no one else in the world could have a wedding exactly like yours. The personal details will be the ones that stand out when you think back on your day.

French Country Banquet Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Debbie Lourens

This Debbie Lourens and Green Goddess Flower Studio collaboration shoot is a vision in red. The deep ruby is just so mesmerizing and definitely screams French countryside when you see how this rich color is woven and worked into this editorial. It’s such a strong color on its own and adding a delightful punch of pale blue to the mix of colors is the icing on the cake. Not only does it bring out the red even more, it softens the whole look, giving it a nice touch of whimsy. There are so many treats to see with this wedding inspiration!

From the floral designer and stylist, Green Goddess Flower Studio: The inspiration for this shoot was a French banquet in a relaxed country setting. Reminiscent of traditional family dining around a big table in an old Loire Valley chateau. The overall look of the table is one that is relaxed, but elegant without being overly rustic – a little bit of French country botanical. We wanted a table that looked warm and inviting, particularly for couples who want to consider a cooler weather wedding. It can be a wonderful time of year to get married and really enjoy those rich, decadent winter meals, with great wine and a roaring fire. We opted for warm, rich colours of reds, peach and coral, with hints of mint and deep purple for some added drama. We chose large opulent, heavily petalled blooms to convey the sense of understated elegance and to off-set the rich textures of the finer berries. We chose to do a swag style arrangement which is very on-trend and suits the French banquet style of dining.

Langverwagt is a historic farm with beautiful heritage buildings. As the reception cellars were built for practical use of storing wine, they are quite dark – which invites filling the rooms with lots of warm candlelight and rich warm colours. The farm has beautiful gardens around every corner and it was lovely to bring some of the garden into the venue as part of this shoot. And to make use of the venue’s permanent fairy light installations to add some romance to the look.

We wanted to use items that were effortlessly elegant, as if you had been invited to a French country chateau for this celebration. Almost as if the village had all rallied and lent all of their best family crystal, flatware and candlesticks to help the couple celebrate amongst those who had watched them grow up. The slight colour on the flatware added an interesting perspective instead of going for more neutral crockery. It also had a slightly raised pattern on it that gave it a more relaxed feel than if we had chosen something with a gold rim for example. The glasses from Woolworths were ideal they were very classic shapes with beautiful etching that conveys old tradition without the heaviness of a cut crystal glass.

We used a stone coloured linen tablecloth to keep the look relaxed and added a striped linen runner to give it a more French feel. The lighter coloured linen also served as a great backdrop for the deeper coloured flowers and complemented them, rather than competing with them. The gold cutlery was a little nod to some opulence and completed the look by adding to the warm colours of the décor.

We also chose the clear perspex Victoria chairs, which are based on the design of Louis chairs, again the French connection. But we opted for clear chairs, to let the opulence of the table do the talking, rather than confusing the look with more detail in the chairs. We considered using wooden chairs, but the clear perspex added a more contemporary feel, that was too old-world.

We call this type of arrangement a swag or a floral runner. It is often made with mostly greenery, but in our case given the season and the abundance of beautiful berries (in red, purple, brown, green and pink tones), we used the berries as the main ingredient of the swag, with a little greenery for some definition. This was complemented with coral charm peonies (from Holland as they are in season in the Northern Hemisphere between May and August), but peonies are available locally at the end of October, but not necessarily in this colour), red tulips (these are in season in South Africa between June and October), red ranunculus (in season in South Africa from June to November), cream, red and peach roses (available all year round), foliage, all complemented by a mix of seasonal berries.

Oldfield Plantation Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

A soft and luminous wedding editorial at a plantation in the deep south? We signed up for those pictures from Jose & Teresa Photography and they definitely did not disappoint! For a few days, photographer Jeremy Chou held a workshop in Okatie, South Carolina and this southern countryside was the setting while Design Studio South was in charge of all of the details and elements. Under the swaying Spanish moss and centuries-old oaks, they chose a pastel color palette of blues and greys. In came dashes of blush from Colonial House of Flower‘s elegant floral arrangements created with roses and ranunculi, to name a few choice blooms. We can only imagine how dreamy it was to shoot this editorial!

From the photographer, Jose & Teresa Photography: This styled shoot took place in the low-country of Oldfield Plantation in Okatie, South Carolina. It has an ethereal feel with the soft Spanish moss hanging from trees as a background and a beautifully in love couple, who are actually engaged and to be married later this year. The bride has a tattoo of a cross on her right hand’s ring finger, as she is a woman of faith, which really captured my attention as I am also a believer. This concept came to be by Jeremy Chou’s Workshop given on February 29 – March 1.

Long taper candles always add a great deal of romance to any wedding tablescape. They come in a wide variety of colors so you can mix and match them and ensure they suit your color palettes. Set them in glass candle holders like these for a more elongated effect, or add even more elegance and use dreamy metal candelabras. Swoon!

Santa Rosa Beach Wedding

Beach Weddings

While Texas always makes a lovely location for a wedding, newlyweds Jade and Dan knew they wanted the laid-back essence a beach wedding would provide. The couple headed to Florida with Sweet Julep Photography and Stems on their list to make their dream day a reality, which they accomplished easily with so many talented hands nearby. Let’s take a look!

Santa Rosa Beach Wedding

From the photographer, Sweet Julep Photography: When Jade originally contacted us about her Santa Rosa Beach wedding, we were like, “Oh heck yes!” But then we learned that she and Dan didn’t even live near Florida. They lived in Ft Worth, TX! Destination weddings are our absolute favorite, and we were in love with Jade from the very beginning. So with only email and Facebook as a means to get to know each other, we anxiously waited for the day to come when we could finally talk face to face with this girl!

Highlands House was the most quaint little bed & breakfast nestled back in the trees only a couple blocks away from Gulf Place. HH had a beautiful bridal suite with the most gorgeous, soft light. The white aesthetic of the house made the perfect backdrop for all of Jade’s colorful details. We were obsessed with Jade’s personal style and loved the color palette that she chose for her day. Our favorite feature of the property had to be the boardwalk through the natural area to the beach! We loved that you could go from a modern B&B to a lush, green lawn to an overgrown boardwalk to the sandy Gulf coast. It wasn’t your every day, average beach rental!

The guys chose to get ready at a condo about a block down the road. We had the most amazing weather on this day, so we really enjoyed that we were able to walk back and forth between the two locations! Per usual, the guys were relaxed and watching baseball until about 30 minutes before the ceremony. Jade and Dan chose to not see each other before the ceremony, so we had to do most all of the photos after the ceremony, which made for some gorgeous images. Everyone was so light-hearted and happy that getting beautiful pictures was effortless. As we headed back to the house for the reception, we loved that you could stand on the porch and watch the whole setting on the lawn while still seeing the bright blue colors of the ocean. The sun dipped below the horizon pretty quickly, making the most perfect atmosphere for dancing under the string lights.

Stylish Greenpoint Loft Wedding

Modern Weddings

Seeing weddings break the mold and step outside of the box is a lovely and welcome thing. When we get served up a dish of unique wedding details with a stunning couple to boot, it reinvigorates us. Abby and Jeremy not only brought the industrial style to their Brooklyn wedding; they incorporated one-of-a-kind wedding details and florals by Wyld that were snapped by Shannon and Elena for Amber Gress Photography that we absolutely adore.

modern wedding fashion - photos by Shannon Roddy and Elena Mudd for Amber Gress Photography http://ruffledblog.com/stylish-greenpoint-loft-wedding

From the bride, Abby: We knew that we wanted to get married in Brooklyn (where we met), but we wanted an unconventional event space. Something that felt like our experience of Brooklyn—artsy, approachable, maybe even a little gritty. When we stepped into The Greenpoint Loft we fell in love instantly. It was the perfect mix of urban and industrial with huge potential and freedom for anything we wanted to create. In all honesty, it just felt like a really cool yet unpretentious place where we could party hard with all our best buds.

Intimate Garden Wedding Ceremony

Garden Weddings

While we love a no holds barred wedding day with an elaborate reception, Danna and Gib’s wedding makes it clear that all you really need are two people madly in love (and maybe some cake). Emily March Photography celebrated the couple’s garden wedding ceremony — decorated beautifully by TreBella Florist — which was followed up with some tasty eats and tequila shots. What better way to celebrate saying yes to forever?

Intimate Garden Wedding Ceremony - photo by Emily March Photography http://ruffledblog.com/intimate-garden-wedding-ceremony

From the photographer, Emily March: Danna and Gib had the definition of a whirlwind engagement. Gib proposed this past February, only a few months before getting deployed overseas with the Army. Too excited to wait to get married, the pair opted for an intimate civil ceremony barely a month after Gib popped the question!

This Calligrapher’s Wedding is Elegant Bliss

Elegant Weddings

What an absolute treat this wedding is! From the perspective of Allison Kuhn Photography, we get to see another talented wedding pro work on a wedding and it’s her very own. Bride Megan is a calligrapher so naturally, when it came to her own nuptials, she pulled out all of the stops and designed a stunner. Of course, all of the paper goods were amazing, and like the rest of the wedding, the florals by New Creations Flower Co. were beyond dreamy.

pink wedding bouquet - photo by Allison Kuhn Photography http://ruffledblog.com/this-calligraphers-wedding-is-elegant-bliss

From the photographer, Allison Kuhn Photography: Megan and Chris were married this past May at the Separk Mansion in North Carolina. Megan is a calligrapher and created and designed a gorgeous wedding. Every guest had watercolored escort card in addition to a silk ribbon at their table with their name calligraphed upon it. One of the most stunning details were Megan’s black, purple and gold invitation suite which she designed. To compliment all of Megan’s amazing details, Melanie of New Creations Flower Co. created a beautiful floral design upon the tables utilizing black candles throughout purple and dusty pink florals. The green ring that Megan wore was Chris’s mom’s ring who passed away several years ago. The couple was all smiles the whole day, and it couldn’t be a more perfect wedding.

Modern Downtown Savannah Wedding

Modern Weddings

Today’s wedding is hailing from the ever-beautiful Savannah, Georgia. When you have plenty of lovely sights and scenery in this town, it’s no wonder why Emily and Adam wanted to say their I Do’s here. Mackensey Alexander Photography captured the couple’s beautiful wedding day along with all of the very fine details with it. This warm-colored wedding adds such a heavy dash of sophistication and modernity, and what we love the most is that the couple came up with the design all on their own with Ivory + Beau helping them execute their vision.  They kept the color palette toned down and went for cool browns and soft neutrals, and then went bold with the flowers and enlisted Colonial House of Flowers for their skills. This elegant fête is one for the books!

savannah weddings - photo by Mackensey Alexander Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-downtown-savannah-wedding

From the bride, Emily: Adam and I wanted our wedding to feel like an intimate, joyful dinner with our friends and family. We wanted our wedding to feel formal yet understated, modern yet warm, and elegant yet relaxed. We wanted every moment to genuinely feel like us, and to reflect our joy. More than anything, we wanted to give our guests the opportunity to feel our love – both the love between Adam and me, and the love we have for all of them.

Bright + Modern NYC Wedding

Buckle in, because we’re about to share the wedding of event and floral designer extraordinaire Juli Vaughn of Juli Vaughn Designs. With some planning expertise from Leah of Color Pop Events and the help of some of New York’s finest vendors, the wedding turned into a “color-filled, festive, whimsical event” in the bride’s own words. Thank you to Haley Sheffield for taking these wonderful images!

Bright + Modern NYC Wedding - photo by Haley Sheffield Photography event and floral design by Juli Vaughn Designs http://ruffledblog.com/bright-modern-NYC-wedding

From the bride, Juli: When Josh and I started planning our wedding, the first thing we realized was that we wanted all of our dearest friends present and involved and made to feel like our wedding was the most fun they’d ever had. It was the driving force in all of our details and all of our festivities. Because it was the second wedding for both of us, we chose to solely invite friends instead of family. We planned a weekend of events – Friday night tacos and karaoke instead of a rehearsal, morning yoga the day of the wedding to calm nerves and start the day off right, a double decker bus tour of NYC for the cocktail hour, and a pajama brunch at the hotel the day after the wedding.

Simi Valley Ranch Wedding

Modern Weddings

Located at the stunning Hummingbird Nest Ranch, newlyweds Sarah and Houman had their Simi Valley ranch wedding with the help of Louise & Third Events’ expertise and Wisteria Lane Flower Shop‘s floral know-how. Photographed by the amazing Brian Leahy Photography, the venue was done up so well that stepping into it post-arranging felt like you were stepping into old world Western Europe. Al fresco dining was the obvious choice here and luckily, mother nature kept herself at bay so no tents were needed. Bistro lights were strung around the reception and mahogany tables were outfitted with floral table runners of roses, ranunculus, and silver dollar eucalyptus.

Boho Pink Wedding Inspiration

Anna Routh

Modern boho brides, this one’s for you. The second we saw this shoot from Anna Routh and Kelley Event Design, full of every shade of pink and the crispest whites, we fell head over heels for the fresh and airy aesthetic. Add to that not one but two beautiful wedding gowns, and we’re forever in love!

boho pink wedding inspiration - photo by Anna Routh http://ruffledblog.com/rose-quartz-spring-wedding-inspiration

From the event planner and designer, Kelley Event Design: My good friend, Anna Routh, and I pulled together this amazing spring shoot with vendors from all over North Carolina (Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Gastonia and Charlotte) and it turned out really beautifully (if I do say so myself). Anna shot it all on film and the light that day was insane at Separk Mansion. We went with a fern and rose quartz theme picking up on spring colors and of course a nod to one of the Pantone colors of the year.

California Orange Grove Wedding

Modern Weddings

Last week we shared an inspiring wedding shoot in an orange grove, and today we’re bringing you a real wedding in one! Fondly Forever Photography and Hello Gem Events worked together on Becca and Michael’s big day, which took place completely outdoors and embraces the epitome of “California cool.”

California orange grove wedding - photo by Fondly Forever Photography http://ruffledblog.com/california-orange-grove-wedding

From the bride, Becca: Most importantly we wanted our guests to experience the beauty and warmth that we feel each time we visit our family ranch. Using this as our vision led us to make a number of design decisions alongside our wonderful planners Hello Gem such as: having all three parts of the wedding completely outdoors from the cocktail hour in the middle of the orange grove to the reception in a field under the stars. We felt this vision really came to life in many ways – our bartenders, for example, embraced the cocktail hour in the grove, spontaneously picking oranges from the tree and making fresh screwdrivers for guests!

Fuchsia and Emerald Wedding at Villa Woodbine

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Michelle March

The color combination of fuchsia and emerald green makes my heart sing oh-so-much, so you can imagine how excited I was to see this wedding from Michelle March and Sullivan Owen Floral & Event Design. The rich colors play off each other beautifully, and accent the couple’s romantic ceremony and reception more perfectly than we could imagine. Congratulations to the newlyweds, Joann and Nate!

From the bride, Joann: I envisioned a garden wedding with old world influences. The venue was my inspiration. I chose bridesmaid dresses that matched the lush greenery and palms. I saw the giant oak tree in the garden, and wanted to transform it into the backdrop of where we were to get married with Spanish moss and romantic florals.

Emerald green and fuchsia were our main colors. I think my head table really encompasses the look of our wedding. We used vintage lace runners on the rustic farm tables, mercury glass and rose gold candle votives and vases, and assorted Vintage candlesticks with taper candles. We had a Vintage postcard station for guests to sign instead of a guest book, which one of my bridesmaids gradually mailed to me throughout our first year of marriage. Used Grandma’s vintage bell collection – one on each table for guests to “ring the bell to see kisses from the new Mr. and Mrs.”

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Try to have fun with your partner in making the plans. My husband is really into music so I let him take account for all things music related and he loved being able to contribute to the planning of our wedding day. I love florals and had so much fun being able to work with my florist to make my vision come true!

Pale Pink and Icy Blue Floral Arrangement

Flower Guide

Photos by:

Sweet Root Village

While spring might be the season that makes you think of flowers the most, winter is rich with its own selection of beautiful blooms and Sweet Root Village is here to help prove that point. The photography + floral design powerhouse put together a beautiful arrangement of flowers incorporating soft blue and sweet pink, perfect for Pantone’s colors of 2016! Let’s take a look:

Ruffled - photo by Sweet Root Village http://ruffledblog.com/pale-pink-and-icy-blue-floral-arrangement

From Sweet Root Village: This glamorous, wintery centerpiece is packed with lush ivory and pale pink blooms and completed with touches of icy blue textures. A perfect way to mix the 2016 Pantone colors of the year! The bulk of this arrangement is made up of blooms that can be found all year long, such as hydrangea, standard roses, and spray roses. These blooms can be found in such a huge variety of colors and translate well into nearly any sort of theme or style depending on how they are used!

pale pink and icy blue floral arrangement - photo by Sweet Root Village http://ruffledblog.com/pale-pink-and-icy-blue-floral-arrangement

Some of the more delicate blooms like Scabiosa and Ranunculus can be sourced most of the year, but they do have several off months that fluctuate depending on the weather. Evergreens and Firs can be foraged all year long, but are most used during the winter months of course due to the wintery feeling they add to arrangements and wreaths. Privet berry is another wintery element that is well loved for its deep blue colored berries! It’s usually available over the summer, but its berries are green! They slowly darken to the deep blue color we all love the closer they get to winter and typically finish their season by December. During the Spring months, the always lovely Viburnum is a great alternative! Eucalyptus silver bell pods are typically only found over the holidays! Get them in December and January before they bloom out and are hard to find.

Paperwhites are an extremely fragrant bulb flower that are usually found during the Winter months of November through March. The teeny, delicate blooms clustered in an arrangement add such a beautiful and unexpected texture! They are not expensive blooms, but they do quickly add up in an arrangement due to needing so many of the tiny stems to make any sort of impact.

paperwhites - photo by Sweet Root Village http://ruffledblog.com/pale-pink-and-icy-blue-floral-arrangement

This centerpiece could translate to a Spring arrangement by adjusting to add some stunning sweat pea on the vine and popping in a few fluffy peonies. Or to a Summer, rustic wedding by switching out the wintery textures for queen anne’s lace and seeded eucalyptus. Extra deep toned burgundy Dahlias and snapdragons with some dried hydrangeas would take this arrangement towards gorgeous Autumn route.

Beautiful Tulum Destination Wedding

Beach Weddings

Let’s take a little visit down to Tulum, Mexico for the wedding of Natalie and Daniel, shall we? The beautiful couple wanted their big day to feel like not just a wedding but also a vacation in itself, so a destination trip was a must-have. Add on the talents of Nicole Berrett Photography and Destination Weddings Tulum, and you’ve got this stunning wedding to remember!

beautiful Tulum destination wedding - photo by Nicole Berrett Photography http://ruffledblog.com/beautiful-tulum-destination-wedding

From the bride, Natalie: On our wedding day we envisioned a very relaxed atmosphere where our guests mostly felt as though they were on vacation and there happened to also be a good friend’s wedding happening at the same time. Over the years, Daniel and I attended many weddings and throughout those experiences we were really able to hone in on what was important to us. We concluded that our focus for our wedding was for it to be intimate, stress-free, and memorable.

I really did not focus on a particular color scheme; I wanted the elements of our wedding to complement the essence of Tulum. On one side, you have the beautiful blues of the ocean and right across the road there is a dense and enchanting jungle full of gorgeous greenery. I really wanted to use natural tones that would reflect the myriad of colors in Tulum.

I work for a Marketing and Promotional Products company so I took care of designing and ordering all of my own welcome bags, koozies, and even hand held flashlights imprinted with our hashtag (Tulum gets dark at night!). What Daniel and I had not originally planned for was to give out gifts to our guests at the wedding. On the day of the wedding to my utter delight, I found out that my wonderful and thoughtful Mom had contacted the owner of my company to create beautiful glass sand globes that were customized with our Names, wedding date and photos for our guests to always remember the occasion.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Ultimately and above ALL else, do what YOU want to do for your wedding. Go with your heart! We saw the big picture early on as to how we wanted the weekend to go, and from there we simply had to cultivate the details. If both the bride and groom’s mindsets are in line, everything will fall into place as it should. Enjoy each and every moment of the planning phase and the day, because it is over in a blink of an eye. Try to take in as many moments as you possibly can!

Wedding Music:
For the wedding, we had a Spanish guitarist playing different Spanish melodies as our guests arrived.
Family Processional: “Somos Novias”
Bride’s Processional: Pachelbel’s Canon in D
Recessional “Isn’t She Lovely,” Stevie Wonder
First Dance: “That’s How Strong My Love Is,” Otis Redding
Father/Daughter Dance: “(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You’ve Been Gone,” Aretha Franklin
A seemingly odd choice, but I chose “(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You’ve Been Gone,” Aretha Franklin for my dance with my Dad. This is a song that he has sung over the years since I was a little girl and it was sentimental to me. Plus, it’s upbeat and we wanted to get the party started! We danced to the beginning and then Daniel and his mother came in too!

Sweet Ranch Wedding in Las Vegas

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Cara Robbins Studio

From time to time I fall deeply in love with a wedding, and that’s what happened when I laid my eyes on this one from Cara Robbins Studio and Destinations by Design. Zoe and James’ wedding was thoughtful, deliberate, and fearless in its approach to forgoing traditional expectations in favor of what would make them happiest and most comfortable.

sweet ranch wedding in Las Vegas - photo by Cara Robbins Studio http://ruffledblog.com/sweet-ranch-wedding-in-las-vegas

From the bride, Zoe: I knew from very early stages of planning that I wanted our wedding to be a celebration of love that honored the two of us and paid homage to my husband and I as individuals and reflected our sensibilities. We really wanted to lose every extraneous detail and focus on a minimal but extraordinarily beautiful event that would deliver our vision with precision. This meant that from the get-go we knew we wanted to skip some of the more traditional components of the classic wedding format that we felt were either antiquated, or didn’t feel substantive enough to be included in our ceremony.

white rose and peony bouquet - photo by Cara Robbins Studio http://ruffledblog.com/sweet-ranch-wedding-in-las-vegas
Flower recipe: I carried an all-white bouquet of white roses, white peonies, white hydrangeas, ranunculus, and baby’s breath. The bridesmaids carried blue hydrangeas, white peonies, blue thistle, baby’s breath, and blue anemones. All the men wore thistle as their boutonnieres including my dog who was the ring bearer, and my nephews who were flower boys.

I wanted to create an environment that was timeless, non-traditional, romantic, beautiful, and earthy, but that didn’t necessarily fit into a specific category, ie. rustic. I wanted a bohemian feel for our ceremony, with touches of whimsy and a feeling of earnest romance in every detail. The whole event took place outdoors so I wanted everything to blend into the desert landscape where the ceremony took place. Our Chupah was draped with heavy blue cloth and then adorned with blue and cream flowers and moss. We had a beautiful Turkish rug on the podium that we borrowed from my husband’s aunt, and I wore a braided halo with wildflowers in the back that attached to a floor-length veil. We had a make-your-own-mac+cheese bar and a taco bar for dinner. We wanted our wedding to be our ultimate party and we said f*** everybody else’s idea of what a wedding should look like! Best move ever on our part.

Our color scheme was dusty blue with accents of muted red. Each name tag and place setting was attached to a little air succulent which paid homage to the desert-ranch we got married at. There were little pieces of lavender tucked into each person’s place setting. Words to describe the look of our wedding would be romantic, bohemian, non-traditional, Jewish, timeless, down-to-earth, and minimalist.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Let go of any allegiance to tradition for the sake of tradition if it doesn’t serve a purpose in the greater scheme of your vision. My husband and I kind of fought to shake some of the traditions that we found antiquated and gendered. We chose not to be announced and not to do the Hora (very controversial!). I didn’t throw a bouquet and both my parents walked me down the aisle. I hated the idea of being “given away” as it seemed so anti-feminist to me. Because we only did things we wanted to do our celebration was amazing! It was all about the ceremony and then amazing food and dancing. We kept the formalities to a minimum and I think it was appreciated all around.

From the photographer, Cara Robbins: A little back story on Zoe and James, I actually photographed their siblings’ wedding a couple years back (believe it or not her brother is married to his sister!). Zoe and Moria (James’ sister) met at summer camp years ago and sort of decided that they were going to marry each others brothers, and some how that actually happened!! You’ll have to get the full story from Zoe but can you believe that? Together the boys own Ventura Sprits, a small distillery in Venutra, CA and Zoe is a doula/birthing coach. Together they live in downtown LA in a beautiful loft where we actually did their engagement photos. They got married out at James’ aunt’s ranch just on the outskirts of Las Vegas. When they first approached me about this I wasn’t so sure about a Las Vegas wedding but boy was I wrong! This ranch was absolutely amazing and made for a perfect and very personal backdrop for their wedding (there was even a mini horse!). The property itself has so many great details and they just wanted to bring a really fresh and simple vibe to the decor. One of my favorite parts was that dinner was served on farmhouse tabled that were positioned between a mini orchard of fruit trees (just wait til you see this)! They had beautiful table decor and little gifts for each guest – air plants – as escort cards. Cocktail hour was hosted right next to this amazing oasis pool and guests got to drink cocktails made with the alcohol that James and Henry make! The wedding party was large and mixed, they really didn’t want to make it only brides maids and groomsmen so there were boys and girls on both of their sides and the girls got to wear mixed dresses that were stunning against the desert background. Zoe’s amazing ring was actually James’ mothers and the two of them are all about family (check out the super cute flower boys and their adorable flower crowns). Also at the end of the night James surprised Zoe by covering Can’t Feel My Face by the weekend and serenading her!

Flora and Fauna Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Flora and fauna — what better inspiration for a beautiful outdoor celebration? Today’s styled shoot from the talented team of Michelle Chiu Photography, Darling Event & Co., and Martha Claire Floral brings together a wedding day vignette inspired by antique botany and zoology illustrations, which you can see right away in the invitation suite. Add in some stunning copper elements, and you’ve got a positively enviable look!

flora and fauna wedding inspiration - photo by Michelle Chiu Photography http://ruffledblog.com/flora-and-fauna-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Tara of Darling Event & Co.: Our main inspiration stemmed from antique botany and zoology illustrations. These detailed, accurate, hand-crafted drawings and paintings are nods to all that weddings represent: a focus on deep realities and a quest for truth, all the while showcasing something incredibly gorgeous. These antique illustrations are often completed in jewel tones – vibrant and rich, without ever feeling too bold. Using this same palette, Martha Claire Floral brought in a variety of large blooms with lots of textures and greenery, creating that same mood. Her whimsical combination of oversized ferns with dahlias and garden roses almost demands a scientific examination. The bride’s simple hair bouquet is reminiscent of a day spent outside, just soaking up all of nature’s bounty.

Her color palette was mimicked and highlighted by BorrowedBlu with all the tabletop goods. Their team also brought in another element from the natural world: copper. All the metal accents featured are copper – from the modern terrariums from Anthropologie to the oversized version of these terrariums made to be the ceremony ‘arch’ installation (designed and built by Tara at Darling Event & Co). With details from calligrapher Leah Moss, an equally beautiful and delicious dessert spread from Sweet & Saucy Shop, a gown from Watters Wtoo, and beauty done by Nicol Artistry Makeup & Hair, this day truly represented all that’s wonderful about Flora & Fauna.

It’s an honor to have worked with such a talented team, some of whom I met as fellow attendees at Angel Swanson’s inaugural Love & Splendor workshops, and others through the power of this incredible industry. The connections of a solid vendor team make all the difference, even for a stylized shoot, but especially for a bride preparing for her big day.

Fresh and Colorful Lombardi House Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Bonnie Tsang

Any wedding that’s full of color, fun, and ends the night with a trip to In-n-Out is going to grab my attention for sure. Hyeyoung and Gabriel’s wedding from Bonnie Tsang, GATHER Events, and Primary Petals was about as joyous as they come, which is totally evident in their wedding pictures — so we’ll let them speak for themselves!

Ruffled - photo by Bonnie Tsang http://ruffledblog.com/fresh-and-colorful-lombardi-house-wedding

From the bride, Hyeyoung: Our favorite memory was sitting down in the beautiful reception and looking out at everyone. We felt so blessed to have so many people from various moments of our life – and from across the world – present, celebrating us. We felt so much love in that moment. Their love for us individually and as a couple – and our love for everyone in that room – felt so palpable and we will never forget that feeling.

We wanted our ceremony to reflect love and family and we felt so happy to have it truly be a family affair. It felt so special to have Hyeyoung’s brother-in-law, Stephen Ahnert, officiate the ceremony. We loved the readings by Best Man, Michael Colon, Maid of Honor and Sister of the Bride, Soyoung Oh, and the groom’s parents, Carmen and Carl Nelson. We loved having Best Man and Brother of the Groom, Christopher Nelson, standing up there with us. And lastly, it was so special to have Hyeyoung’s parents, Ai Jung and Mootak Oh, and her 3 month old nephew, Owen Ahnert, all present and part of the ceremony. Along with this, having Hyeyoung’s aunt and cousins, traveling from Seoul, Korea and Hawaii, and Gabriel’s aunts, uncle, and cousins from Colorado and Illinois all present made the occasion even more joyful and special. Having Hyeyoung’s cousin’s husband, Jae Hwa Choi, DJ the event was the icing on the cake. Beyond this, having the majority of the guests fly in from across the United States to celebrate with us clearly demonstrated their love for us and we are immensely grateful.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? “Don’t sweat the small stuff” – this motto really sticks in our minds when thinking about wedding planning. Now the small stuff can, and will, differ from couple to couple. So I think the first thing to do is to sit down and decide what are the indispensable things and what are the “small” things. Once you have a clear idea of what you really want, it will make the planning process go much more smoothly and hopefully make the week-of leading to the big day much easier. Don’t let “small” things become large things during an undeniably emotional time. Also, during the special day, I think what truly becomes self evident is that even the seemingly “large” things are actually “small” things as it becomes crystal clear that only one thing really matters: being surrounded by family and friends – sharing in so much love, joy, laughter, and happy tears. Also, if available in the budget, hiring a planner is essential. We can unequivocally state that without Robin and GATHER Events, the day would not have been possible. Robin understood our aesthetic and what we wanted to focus on for the ceremony and reception, helping us bring to life our vision of the wedding. She also managed countless dilemmas and issues (ones that we probably are even unaware of) that emerged without involving us – which we are so grateful for. As such, we cannot emphasize enough the value of a planner. The thing is – amidst this joyful time, even with a planner, it will be stressful – so having a planner will truly save you quite a bit of stress and tears. Lastly, as noted, even with a full planning team and everything in place, the week leading up to the wedding will be stressful – especially as family and friends start to arrive to celebrate with you ahead of time. Make sure both the bride and groom/bride and bride/groom and groom make time for themselves – book your own hotel room away from everyone else, go to the spa, workout on your own, etc (whatever that truly allows you to decompress). The same way you schedule drinks, a meal, a coffee break, schedule time for yourself because it will be an intense time and taking opportunities to recharge alone will be essential.

From the event designers, GATHER Events: Hyeyoung and Gabriel envisioned a joyous and festive day with lots of vibrant, happy colors. Fresh pops of peach, fuschia, yellow and orange in the design details offset Lombardi House’s clean neutral color palette. Primary Petals created the most gorgeous bridal bouquet with lush, colorful, textured florals, including peonies, poppies, ranunculus, succulents and eucalyptus. Hyeyoung and Gabriel got married behind our hand-dyed fabric backdrop for an extra touch of romance. Lupa & Pepi livened up their crisp, clean paper goods with fun geometric shapes and vibrant swaths of paint. A column of glowing twinkle lights softened the long u-shaped communal dinner table inside the venue’s modern barn and long, lush runners of greenery and pops of florals dressed the exposed wooden dinner tables. Little Nelly’s dinner spread included flank steak, slow-roasted salmon, torchio pasta and market vegetables and the evening was topped by a decadent dessert table of red velvet cake and mini desserts including cheesecake, fruit crisp and sea salt caramel pudding. With a guest list that included a number of professional dancers, the couple anticipated the dance floor to be a focal point of the event. We created a light and fabric curtain surrounding the dance floor and creating a cozy space for people to dance the night away. And dance, they did! We were treated to the most amazing dance-offs between street and Latin ballroom dancers. Guests recharged with a late night treat of In N Out burgers before the event concluded with a sparkler sendoff. It was the perfect celebration for this vibrant couple!

Modern Black and White Wedding with Emerald

Modern Weddings

Any couple who describes their wedding theme as “Kate Spade met The Wicked Witch of the West” has already garnered my attention and adoration, and this wedding did not disappoint. Sarah Libby Photography, Everything Beautiful OKC, and Leigh and Louise Design came together to work on Avery and Michael’s modern wedding with a clean color palette of black, white, gold, and green, with a bit of burgundy in the floral arrangements for good measure.

From the bride, Avery: I would describe our wedding style as Kate Spade meets Boho chic. If Kate Spade fell into a forest, that’s the feel we were going for. Somehow our end phrase became Kate Spade met The Wicked Witch of the West.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t follow protocol. Just because that’s the way it’s always been done doesn’t mean that’s how it has to be. Make it your own and then own it. Secondly, take a moment to take it all in, it. Thirdly, don’t pay $1,000 for your veil. A full cathedral veil with a blusher cost us $18.00.

From the photographer, Sarah Libby Photography:
Michael and Avery were married this fall with a modern, fresh, and fun vibe. Avery stunned in her long sleeve plunging neck gown by Madison James from Beloved Bridal and Michael could not stop looking at her. Michael surprised her with her grandmother’s ring to wear as her wedding band and the tears flowed. The bridesmaids wore bold emerald Badgley MIschka gowns and the groomsmen wore a classic tux. They were married at sunset overlooking the Oklahoma farmlands. They chose bold tablecloths to fancy up their reception space and chose a non-traditional cake table filled with fancy donuts and cookies. They also had specialty pizza’s prepared for all of their guests from their favorite pizza place. They had a confetti entrance to their reception and partied with family and friends before their sparkler sendoff!

Intimate Colorful Wedding at Gruene Estate

Romantic Weddings

Horses, paper punch garlands, vibrant floral arrangements, a beautiful couple deeply in love — this wedding has it all. Natalia and Adam exchanged vows at the stunning Gruene Estate in the most adorable open-air chapel, following by a colorful reception with heaps of handmade touches. Jessica Scott Photography and Rosehip Flora‘s work shine in this wedding!

intimate colorful wedding at Gruene Estate - photo by Jessica Scott Photography http://ruffledblog.com/intimate-colorful-wedding-at-gruene-estate

From the bride, Natalia: The idea for our wedding started with the venue, Gruene Estate–a little farm with an open-air chapel and reception hall. We wanted something fun, colorful, and not too stuffy to match the location. We also drew inspiration from our invitations. We are both designers so we teamed up to tell our story through pictures and this gave us an idea of what we wanted to do for decorations. With a lot of help from our friends and family, we made all of the decorations ourselves, even with everyone being scattered across different states. The circle backdrop was made by running the circles through the sewing machine and we hand-painted the cake toppers. Overall, it was definitely a labor of love and we are so happy how it turned out.

Our color scheme was pink, orange and a light green. We had laser cut place mats that our friends cut for us, we hand punched and sewed through our backdrop, we stamped our own favors which were little sketchbooks and also dipped the pencils in paint. My husband painted the cake toppers by hand.

Chicago Warehouse Wedding

Blue Label, Romantic Weddings

Chicago’s Salvage One has long been one of our favorite venues for industrial weddings — it’s simply the perfect backdrop for a variety of so many different styles. Beth and Brandon chose to contrast the industrial space with romantic decor and floral design, bringing on board the talented Artistrie Co., A Stem Above, and North Shore Weddings and Events to round out their vision!

Chicago warehouse wedding - photo by Artistrie Co http://ruffledblog.com/chicago-warehouse-wedding

From the bride, Beth: I wanted my wedding to be the most amazing day surrounded by my closest family and friends. I wanted everyone to laugh, feel the love and good energy in the room, and most of all be smiling and have a great time! It was important to me that the day felt intimate, cozy and comfortable for everyone there.

I did not have any color theme as I usually tend to love neutrals, blacks and gray. I loved the brightness and the delicateness that the white/lighter color flowers brought to the wedding. I loved Salvage One for its brick walls, concrete and romantic darker lighting and I wanted to include design that complimented that natural setting. One of my favorite pieces of the wedding were the mismatched lace table runners that my mom and I found from all over the country. We started collecting them and each one was special in its own way and I love how they pulled together the gorgeous table settings. I was also lucky enough to have my sister in law Alissa do all of the graphic design work for the wedding, so everything we printed was tied together. The invitations, to the welcome bags, to the programs all had a similar theme which I loved! She also designed a logo for us that we used on a wide range of pieces throughout the wedding. See attached for an example of the logo used on our program.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Make sure your wedding is the most amazing party you want to be at and never want to end! There are so many details, questions, decisions to be made, so try to remember to have fun with it and don’t stress about the small stuff! Also spend the most time on the details of the wedding that are the most important to you. Brandon and I knew we wanted our dance floor packed the entire evening, so the details around the music were very important to us. We found an amazing band (Front of House) and had so much fun working with the band to talk through songs and the theme for the night!

Wedding Music:
My mom found an incredible folk guitar duo from the Old Town School of Music in Chicago. They were an adorable couple and they played an incredible variety of Bob Dylan songs which we loved hearing and knew everyone in attendance would enjoy as well. “Don’t Think Twice its Alright”, “Shelter From the Storm” and “Forever Young”.

Be sure to watch the film from Artistrie Co.!

Vintage Wedding at Gramercy Park Hotel

Vintage Weddings

All you vintage-loving brides out there, listen up. This wedding (from the incomparable team of Lev Kuperman and Violet and Verde) is where it’s at. Gramercy Park Hotel in New York City was the absolute perfect venue to complement the couple’s vision, and these high school sweethearts ended up with a wedding for the ages!

vintage wedding at Gramercy Park Hotel - photo by Lev Kuperman http://ruffledblog.com/vintage-wedding-at-gramercy-park-hotel

From the florist, Bridget of Violet and Verde: Melanie was an absolute dream to work with. She was, by far, the most upbeat, sweet, and happy bride and with Mitchell, having been a couple since high school, they were just perfect together and complemented each other so well. They had a clear vision from our first meeting of what they wanted for florals – shades of pinks, reds, and whites without looking too holiday and using a more vintage aesthetic to complement the beautiful venue.

We chose anemones, peonies, ranunculus, roses, paper whites, cosmos and sweet peas to fill the bouquets and tables. Brass lanterns, mercury glass vases, and vintage votives and bottles lined the tables with more flowers placed throughout the tables. Each place setting was adorned with a single colorful bloom for guests. Lush vines and foliage paired with assorted lanterns created a romantic backdrop to their rooftop ceremony. It was truly a beautiful day for such a wonderful couple!

It’s the week of Thanksgiving, which means we’ve got lots of delicious tablescapes to look forward to. This shoot from Jonica Moore, Dawn Mauberret, and Sweet Thorn Flora explores the dramatic side of autumn weddings, and we think it works perfectly for a Friendsgiving event with the besties too. Be sure to keep an eye out for the incredible dip dyed veil!

From the shoot’s concept designer, Kerry Ann Stokes: The Moody Romantics styled shoot was inspired by dark fairytales and the beauty of nature found deep in the woods – maybe where you least expect it. Both décor and wardrobe are rich in texture-including furs, satin-faced chiffon, lace, quartz, lush florals, and taxidermy insects. This shoot is packed with detail, a love for the handmade, and vintage items. Dreamt up by accessories designer Kerry Ann Stokes and brought to life by a team of creatives, mobilized by Dawn Mauberret Events. This shoot sets the mood for a dreamy and romantic fall wedding—all beautifully captured by Jonica Moore Studio.

The color palette is rich and dark hued-highlighting deep reds, and Pantone’s color of the year, Marsala. For the wedding dresses we pulled a Rue De Seine dress with a delicate lace over a beige slip and one of Leanne Marshall’s creamy and silky dresses from Lovely Bride. We paired the first look (Rue De Seine) with a deep wine dip-dyed silk tulle veil and dark beaded crown from Kerry Ann Stokes. Sophie Hughes provided some killer jewelry for the shoot, including a custom Black Beauty Diamond Ring (we were all wide-eyed over it), black diamond bands, and fused metal pieces. For the second look (Leanne Marshall) we topped the dress with a fur shawl and a natural quartz headpiece. The bridesmaids wore maroon (Ash and Light) and black (Nordstrom) dresses, along with coordinating jewelry, leather flower hairpins, a beaded headpiece. Hair (by Stephanie Kauffman) and makeup (by MauberretFX) have a beautiful witchy vibe. Sweet Thorn Flora nailed it with the floral arrangements, which included deep toned florals mixed with lush greens and blush accents. Peonies, blackberries, thistle, ranunculus, and ferns were utilized and mixed with taxidermy insects (courtesy of Hoardaculture) and antlers-definitely making a dramatic statement.

The Grand was the perfect location for this shoot, and included a long wooden banquet table, rustic seating, exposed brick walls, a deep green pin-tuck cushion booth, and some in house taxidermy wall mounts. They cooked up a menu full of color for every course. Oysters for the cocktail hour with some fall inspired signature cocktails, a black kale salad to start, and braised ribs for the main-all served up on vintage plates and glassware from Eleven Thirty Six. For the dessert we decided to forego the traditional cake and have a table of pies and tarts instead. Deep colored berries and elaborate crust designs made for a beautiful sweets table thanks to Cutie Pies NYC. The maroon and rose-colored invites were designed by Of Note Stationers — who also supplied some stationery (Can’t Do This Without You, Dazzle, and It’s Your Day cards). Our signage was all hand painted by Kristin Texteria onto vintage mirrors, including the one large mirror in the venue. The escort cards are strung from butterflies and pinned inside vintage frames. Needless to say, a lot of talented vendors came together on this moody and romantic wedding inspiration shoot and the end result is truly inspiring!

Autumn Wedding at the Roth Estate

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Danielle Poff

Josh and Cate’s wedding was one for the books in every way. Their goal was understated elegance with nods to nature, and the talents of Danielle Poff and Thistle and Honey certainly helped them to achieve this. The couple also used Pantone’s color of 2015, Marsala, in brilliant ways, showing up all over the place from the tablecloths to the groom’s tie!

From the bride, Cate: We love being in nature and wanted to bring nature in tasteful, romantic ways to our wedding day. I would describe our look as understated elegance, woodsy, personal to us — not just something we saw online that looked pretty, romantic. Our colors were Wine/Marsala, Sage, Blush and Gold.

I custom made, stained, and painted all of our signs (roadside, welcome, directional). The centerpieces included custom cut wood slices purchased from Etsy, table tables hand painted by Kenny Wong, and lanterns which were purchased at IKEA but spray painted Rose Gold by my lovely momma. The furniture used at entrance and for communion were pieces from my home. Our entrance table included crates that I stained myself, a frame we painted gold, hand painted name cards from Kenny Wong (which were my favorite part of the decor: our guests were asked to take their name card but replace it with a Polaroid of themselves so that instead of having a guest book with a bunch of names, Josh and I now have a photo album of all of our wedding guests!). The ribbon wands for the exit were created by knotting three strands of ribbon to a craft stick! We were allowed to use confetti, flowers or sparklers at our venue so we had to get creative here.

Today’s wedding is the epitome of a show-stopper. The film images by Adam Barnes Fine Art Photography, the citrus hues of the flowers arranged by Mallory Joyce, and the wedding cake adorned with orange roses all render us completely defenseless against this wedding’s charms. Congratulations to the beautiful couple, Kamilia and Mike!

Industrial Wedding at a Metalworking Studio

Modern Weddings

We love that today’s couple knew their venue, Gutierrez Studios, would be the perfect fit for their wedding day because it captured both of their spirits individually — analytic industrialism for the groom, and a blank creative canvas for the bride. Lindsay Hite of READYLUCK and The Vanlandingham Design Studio were the chosen pros to be by their side for the big day, making their vision come to reality with startling clarity and a clear focus on modern design in an industrial setting.

From the bride, Brittany: Greg and I have known each other since elementary school and are living proof that opposites attract. We really wanted a day that would celebrate how much we love one another and how fortunate we are to have so many amazing family and friends. It is so rare and special to have all of the people you love together in one place at the same time. We instantly fell in love with Gutierrez Studios, a working metal studio in Baltimore’s Clipper Mill. The amazing artistry and historic industrial setting seemed like the perfect allegory for Greg’s analytical personality and my creative spirit. The studio is not a traditional event space and we were so thankful to work with Drew at The Vanlandingham Design Studio. He came highly recommended and was without a doubt crucial to making our wedding dream a reality. He really got to know us and translated our personalities along with our rustic and industrial vision into the most meaningful and magical day we could dream of. We worked with fantastic professionals throughout the entire process and with Drew by our side, we didn’t have to worry about a single thing.

Greg gave me a beautiful bracelet along with sweet and silly card. When I opened the card there was also a photo of us taken at our senior prom. The edges were tattered and the photo image was almost peeling away from the plastic backing. I instantly recognized the image and soon realized that he had been carrying this photo in his wallet every day for the past 11 years. Thinking about all of the amazing moments we had shared and all of the memories we still have to make together was definitely one of the most memorable parts of the day.

ceremony kiss - photo by Readyluck Studios http://ruffledblog.com/industrial-wedding-at-a-metalworking-studio

My dress included a patch sewn into the lining that was made from pieces of family members clothing including my mother’s wedding dress, Greg’s aunt, grandmother, and mother’s wedding dresses, my grandmother’s painting smock, and my grandfather’s apron. It was a special way to feel connected to all of our loved ones. We were very excited to give Daruma Dolls as favors to all of our guests. A daruma doll is a traditional Japanese doll seen as a symbol of perseverance and good luck. When someone receives a daruma doll it has two blank eyes. The recipient fills in one eye upon setting a goal or making a wish, then the other eye once it is fulfilled. Greg’s Bachan, Japanese grandmother, passed down the tradition to her family and we wanted to share it with all of our guests as a special token of thanks and good fortune. We hope all of their wishes come true!

Colorful Boho Wedding at Historic Cedarwood

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

Teale Photography

Oodles of gorgeous pinks, tons of lush greenery, an inspiring bohemian ceremony backdrop, and beautiful flowers everywhere you look make this wedding from Teale Photography and Cedarwood Weddings one for the books. If anything, this wedding proves that fuchsia is nothing less than a color for all seasons!

colorful boho wedding at Historic Cedarwood - photo by Teale Photography http://ruffledblog.com/colorful-boho-wedding-at-historic-cedarwood

From the bride, Larin: We wanted to create an environment that blended rustic elegance with the organic warmth of a backyard bash. Capitalizing on the raw beauty of Cedarwood Weddings, our styling was romantic, playful, and totally us! I wanted our personal style to shine through in the details – and our guests definitely noticed! The color scheme, inspired by my bedroom pillows actually, was intended to complement the natural setting – blush to vibrant pinks, lush greenery, and mixed metals.

Bouquet recipe: My bouquet was a textural masterpiece of king protea, peonies, ranunculus, roselily, varied roses, hydrangea, wax flower, seeded eucalyptus, and cascading jasmine vine. It was so heavy, but I didn’t want to put it down all night!

From the very beginning, I knew I wanted our altar to be a lasting artifact we could display in our home. I created this free-flowing installation to give the already beautiful backdrop a layer of depth and whimsy. The pinks and florals were perfectly juxtaposed with more masculine accents – woods, skulls, antlers, and other raw materials to create an earthy vibe. And if my husband loves anything more than me, it’s his country – insert American flag everywhere.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Be you and have fun with it! Enjoy making each little decision – just try to make them only once! If you’re into DIY and questioning what to take-on yourself – I urge you to commit to at least one project! Just be sure to give yourself plenty of time, and you’ll be happy you did. Give your bridesmaids the opportunity to shine! I’m so thrilled each of the girls’ dresses wove their personalities into our day. Pick a venue that you find aesthetically special, even in it barest form, to be your canvas. Cedarwood Weddings offers guests a variety of settings on one property and the effortless flow from one to the next kept guests on their toes! Offer out-of-town guests a taste of your hometown, even if it is adopted. For us that meant a historic property exuding Southern charm, a bluegrass duo in the barn cocktail hour, and late-night hot chicken bites! And, let’s not underestimate the power of Southern folklore – our buried bottle of bourbon diverted a storm! Choose an experienced team and you’ll sleep better. Entrusting my vision to one holistic team made planning a (really fun) breeze – thank you for bringing our vision to life!

Vermont Garden Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Christina Bernales

Christina Bernales, you’ve sure got a winner here. Phoebe and Adrien’s wedding day was the perfect garden wedding — relaxed, intimate, and surrounded by the best that nature has to offer. We adore that the entire reception was filled with hanging light bulbs at every turn! Let’s Pretend Catering and In Full Bloom were brilliant as the coordinator and florist, respectively.

Vermont garden wedding - photo by Christina Bernales Photography http://ruffledblog.com/vermont-garden-wedding

From the bride, Phoebe: The style was rustic chic with bits of our personalities and things that were special to us as a couple sprinkled throughout. We wanted it to be laid back and fun, but when you stepped back you could see how romantic everything was. We had greys, blues, & beige as a base tone with pops of bright colors from the royal blue vases to the bright yellow sunflowers and splashes of red, green and white. We built our own giant sized Polaroid frame out of a dry erase board for people to take photos and write messages on. We also hand wrote out table place cards and table numbers on thick kraft paper which became part of an table seating display built in collaboration with our amazing florist.

There were so many beautiful flowers used on the day. Not one arrangement on the table was alike, which, along with my lack of flower knowledge, makes it hard to remember what type of flower was in each! For my bouquet I really wanted that flowing look as apposed to a tight bouquet. There were ranunculus, poppies, and roses, just to name a few, with splashes of little yellow flowers with bright green leaves. The florist did an incredible job. It was perfect.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? There will always be something to do, so the sooner you get stuff done, the sooner you can sit back and relish those moments like discovering your dress, instead of worrying about the next thing you have to do. Have fun, have a sense of humor, and when things get stressful have a margarita. This is a celebration if you caught up in all the minuet details you’ll forget that. Your day goes by fast, so don’t sweat the small stuff and you will never notice if the napkins were square instead of rectangular.

Blush Pink Pennsylvania Farm Wedding

Rustic Weddings

This bride’s own words say it all: “We were intentional about having a meaningful, intimate ceremony surrounded by our closest friends and family followed by a super fun party.” Sarah and Ryan’s Pennsylvania wedding was utter perfection, with a focus on the guests and the couple’s love for each other. Big props to Brianna Wilbur Photography, Elizabeth Kate Events, and Petals with Style and all other vendors involved for a gorgeous day.

From the bride, Sarah: Since our wedding was held outside in beautiful Lancaster, Pennsylvania, we wanted our wedding’s style to be organic and natural. We were intentional about having a meaningful, intimate ceremony surrounded by our closest friends and family followed by a super fun party. We truly believe we got the best of both worlds!

Some adjectives that would describe the look of our wedding would be organic, ethereal, romantic, and fun. We didn’t have a concrete color scheme. I was all about natural, neutral colors with pops of color. The bouquets were filled with lots of greenery and bright flowers. The bridesmaids wore mismatched blush dresses and gold-toned jewelry and the groomsmen wore navy blue suits with gray striped ties. In terms of DIY, I designed the wedding programs, ring box, table assignment board, name cards, table “numbers” (which were actually places my husband and I had been to together and an accompanying photo of us in that location), and the chalkboard signs.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Make sure you fully trust in the vendors you select. I was entirely confident in every vendor we chose and it allowed me to relax and know that everything was covered. I just had to focus on getting married! Also, do as many of the DIY elements long before the wedding. I procrastinated and was super busy designing and crafting the week before the wedding.

Wedding Music:

Recessional: “Moth’s Wings,” Passion Pit
First Dance: “This Magic Moment,” The Drifters

From the photographer, Brianna Wilbur: I was shooting the reception, walking by a table of college boys when I heard one mumble, “Man, this wedding makes me want to settle down and have a wife,” in a rather serious tone. You know the wedding and couple is amazing when you hear that from a party driven college boy. I knew the bride before her wedding day but not close enough to call her a best friend of course. Now, I see a lot of brides slip on their white dresses. I usually get super excited, genuinely super happy. However, she was different. She literally took my breath away in that gown and I was truly teary behind my camera. I could see the excitement all over her face slipping into that perfect-fit lace dress & watched the realization wash over her that this is her day. She didn’t forget a single detail: the lush florals, various mismatched blush bridesmaid dresses that went together just so perfectly, her dainty green flower crown, the vintage decor, and more! His reaction when he saw her was so genuine and heartfelt (as you will see). These two have this palpable, deep love for one another with a very silly, lighthearted flare. Their vows were carefully crafted, every word picked with a purpose & meaning. The entire wedding felt like one big group of super fans that were 120% Sarah & Ryan. It was an honor to witness this marriage. It rained most of the day, it didn’t matter. This Lancaster, Pennsylvania farm wedding was a dream. The florals were fluffy, lush, and summery. The bridesmaids mismatched blush dresses complimented the rustic, elegant farm feel of Eagles Ridge. The bride is a wedding photographer herself and made every last detail beautiful. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do!

Garden Wedding in Dripping Springs

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

The Nichols

I swear, it’s like today’s wedding took elements of all our favorite types of weddings and rolled it into one, and ended up with one ridiculously beautiful wedding day. The Nichols and Gypsy Floral put some absolutely beautiful work in as photographers and event designer/florist, respectively. And that dessert bar with drool-worthy iced donuts? Well, we’re already trying to find excuses to set one of those up at all of our upcoming events!

From the bride, Averi: I wanted it to have a boho/romantic style with a comfortable easy going feeling. I also wanted it to have some whimsical/personal touches, like the pug cake toppers (we have 2 pugs), pug cuff links, funfetti cake/donuts, and the DIY calligraphy & cake table backdrop.

Bouquet recipe: Lots of peonies, ranunculus, roses, garden roses, dusty miller, anemone, & protea (a hawaiian flower added to the arch) and a few others I am not sure the name of.

Our color scheme was white & creme, peach, blush, celedon + sea glass with pops of pink, bright peony & gold. I hand painted the watercolor escort and place cards and did the calligraphy on them. I also did the calligraphy on the bar sign, and welcome sign. I made the tassel backdrop behind the cake table.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It is so easy to get caught up in the whole planning process and the million different awesome ideas you see on Pinterest. I definitely let some really small silly things stress me out that in the big picture didn’t end up mattering at all. I would say that just to try and enjoy the planning process and not get to swept up in the insignificant details. I know it sounds cliche, but honestly it really is about marrying the person you love and not about having the perfect Koozie color or a rain-free day. I tried not to let myself have an exact image of what the whole day would look like, because I didn’t want to get weirdly let down if it wasn’t the perfect picture I saw in my head. So when the day came around, a lot of it was a surprise to me and I absolutely loved how everything turned out!
