Australian Wedding for a Couple Who Met on Instagram

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Shane Shepherd

Today’s couple met and began dating while living 7,760 miles apart, proving that love knows no geographical boundaries. Brandi and Jarith married each other in the groom’s home country of Australia, bringing on board the talented Shane Shepherd and Twig & Grace for photography and styling. One thing’s for sure — we can never get enough of romantic stories like this one!

From the photographer, Shane Shepherd: Jarith & Brandi have one of the most incredible back stories of any couple I’ve ever met. If I were some mathematical genius I’d say something like ‘the probability of them finding each other was 1,000,000,000,000 to 1…’ They met each other on Instagram, and shortly after started dating while living 7,760 miles apart.

Their wedding was as much a celebration of overcoming some serious obstacles to be together. The entire day was just full of hugs and happy tears, and the party at the end of the night was huuuuge. Jarith is a drummer, his Dad Mike is a guitarist, his Brother Brannon is a DJ and basically all their friends are musicians. There were guitar solo battles and dance-offs until the early morning. Special mention to Dezley & Mick from Twig & Grace (who also happen to be Jarith’s parents) for their jaw dropping setup and styling of the ceremony and reception. Next level!

Elandra Resort Wedding

Beach Weddings

If you’ve been following Ruffled for a while, then you know how we feel about Australian beach weddings. If not, let me clue you in – we’re completely and utterly obsessed. This wedding from David Campbell Imagery and Jenny Rick is no different, with its tropical floral design and modern poolside reception. Prepare to get a little obsessed, too!

Elandra Resort wedding - photo by David Campbell Imagery http://ruffledblog.com/elandra-resort-wedding

From the bride, Tegan: I have always wanted a unique and colorful wedding style for our day, filled with bright blooms and fabulous stationary and there was always going to be lanterns! The Elandra was already wonderfully styled and it is very hard to compete with the spectacular view so I didn’t want to go overboard with decorations but at the same time wanted to embrace the tropical landscape. The theming started with the invitation suite a close friend of the family designed for us. Modern, tropical with a slight Moroccan feel to fit in with the Elandra’s décor. I loved putting together each element of the invitations, designing the menus, placecards and favor boxes, utilizing Etsy at every turn!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Be open for change on the day, I soon found out no matter how much planning prior something ‘may’ go wrong but at the end of the day it does not matter, it will be an amazing day no matter what as you are surrounded by your family & friends celebrating your love.

Garden Queensland Wedding

Romantic Weddings

You could say that today’s wedding was a long time in the making. Chelsea and Beau have known each other since primary school, gave birth to a beautiful daughter Arabella (who you’ll spy as a flower girl), and even had their primary school principal act as their Celebrant while they exchanged vows. Bek Grace did a phenomenal job of capturing all the day’s details, from the watercolor bridesmaids dresses to the pastel floral arrangements from B Sweet Flowers.

From the bride, Chelsea: I love the vintage look. I would call the style of the day a Romantic Vintage Garden Wedding! We wanted the day to be about love, the love we have for each and our little girl Arabella. Our primary school principal was our Celebrant so it made it so special as Beau and I had known each other a long time. It was an amazing day filled with love, laughter, happiness a lot of dancing and quite a few bubbles.

Our colour story was using pastels of Peach, Lilac and White. Romantic, Vintage, Effortless, Whimsical. We sourced things from all around the world to get our look. All the main things for our day were all locally sourced by local vendors this is important to us as I am a small business owner too. Some items were DIY by Picolo and Poppi and the rest were bought/hired by myself and handmaidens in Australia. We were married in front of the lace backdrop made by my Dad.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? We tried to be as casual about it all as possible, it made it easier if things needed to be changed or didn’t work out exactly as planned. We planned well in advance so the week before there were just a few minor details that needed to be finalised which was lovely.

Bright bow ties, colorful flowers and blue skies make this Sunshine Coast wedding a pretty awesome one. Sweet handmade details were scattered throughout and photographer Karen Buckle was sure to capture them all. It isn’t hard to see the fun and beauty that was shared that day. We love a couple who not only embraces a theme for their wedding day, but can also encourage the guests to take part as well! Anita and Dominic asked their loved ones to come bedecked in vintage attire, which only heightened the surreality of their big day. Good friend Dan O’Day tagged along to take pictures, including bridesmaids wearing the most striking cobalt blue vintage dresses!

From the bride, Anita: I would describe our day as “Musically Vintage.” Red, Blue and all things old! Majority was DIY, we also asked the guests to dress in vintage attire and glad we did; everyone looked amazing and felt part of our big day.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? DIY is rewarding but getting help is a must and make time for the little things, don’t compromise as you may be disappointed… I took the time to make and do everything I wanted to do and was happy with the result. I wasn’t going to make the paper music flowers for the pews, but with some help did and was glad I did in the end. Location weddings are great, but know the area, suppliers and include shipping in your budget! Decide what is important and spend money on it… food and drink was ours and glad it was…

We love opening our inbox to see drop dead gorgeousness submitted to us by none other than the bride herself! Rachel and Scott married in Queensland with a truly handmade affair captured to perfection by Trigger Happy Images. We admire Rachel’s advice of looking outside the box for non-wedding vendors to help scrimp and save in various areas of your budget!

australian wedding portrait

From the bride, Rachel: As Scott is British and I am Australian, our first decision was where to hold the wedding. In the end we decided to hold it in Australia as this is where we are currently living, but thought it was be amazing to have an English garden themed wedding. We had an amazing group of family and friends that came all the way from the UK for the day, so we wanted to make it a day everyone would all enjoy and remember. The Gold Coast Botanic Gardens were exactly what we were looking for. There was a huge fig tree right by the water, and a natural bamboo archway leading down to it. Perfect!

From the very beginning we decided that we would have a DIY wedding. We had a small budget, but also wanted it to be personalised and reflect us a couple. We wanted each of the bridal party to have quirky accessories that suited them. I chose different earrings and brooches for the girls that suited them, and Scott picked watches and socks for the boys.

We collected jam jars for months for decor and for drinks at the ceremony! DIY elements included our invites, decorations, bouquets, guestbook, and sashes for the bridesmaid dresses. Making our invites was super fun! We love photos, so created a photographic invite, with pics of ourselves. We then had the formal invite details on the back, and stitched both sides together, and tied each invite with twine and a postage tag with the guests name hand written.

For the ceremony we collected the decorations all throughout our engagement. Lanterns, vintage lace from my grandma’s glory box, bunting. We had our English guests bring fondant fancies & party rings, and we made jugs of pims and lemonade, and iced apple & cinnamon tea for refreshments afterwards.

Our main advice for other couples would be to do as much as you can by yourselves, it makes it personal and from the heart. Look for non bridal suppliers to save where you can. Wedding dress, bridal party outfits, flowers from wholesalers – you can find amazing things when you think outside the box!
