Peacock Garden Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

What could possibly make an already gorgeous garden even more stunning? How about peacocks strolling the grounds? We squealed with delight when we saw them in this wedding sent to us by the ever-talented Gabe Aceves. This college sweetheart couple — a pair of stellar photographers themselves — had the perfect vintage-inspired wedding, surrounded by their closest friends and family (and the occasional peacock, of course!).

From the bride: We had our wedding at Mayfield because it’s a very sentimental spot for us as we used to go hike around there together in college. We mainly just wanted a really easy, laid back wedding since we go to so many weddings ourselves! It was important for us to have a female, non-religious officiant so Joanna was perfect.

1950s Peacock-Inspired Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

This New York City wedding reads as an expert’s guide to how to properly integrate pops of color into your wedding day. The bride, Bethany, used a gorgeous and rich teal motif throughout all details of her big day, right down to her very own wedding gown! If you’re a big fan of peacock feathers (and even if you’re not!), be sure to check out all the images from Joyeuse Photography.

From the bride, Bethany: We love all things vintage & handmade, so we wanted our wedding to reflect that. (especially 1950s & 1960s era!) We love that both vintage & handmade goods are more sustainable than buying things new and it is one of our values to be as sustainable and socially responsible as possible in terms how we shop, or decorate our home, or plan our wedding. Plus, we love the aesthetic. We also have an incredibly talented & close knit community and we wanted our wedding to be a reflection of our community as well. Almost every detail of our wedding was covered in the fingerprints of our friends & family, and that made it feel so much more special.

vintage teal peacock inspired ny wedding

I love the deep rich colors in peacock feathers so we decided to use a peacock feather as our color inspiration. In terms of DIY projects, we tried to hand make as many elements as we could. Jerod drew our cameos and used them to design our save the dates & programs. He and I also handmade our invitations from tiny glass bottles we collected on a magical beach in Brooklyn. (We also used bottles that we found there as the vessels for the flower arrangements at the reception). As everyone came into the church for the ceremony, they received a tiny flag to wave which had been stamped with “b & j” or “love”, which friends and I made using letters from an antique printing press and a mix of vintage fabrics and scrap fabrics in peacock colors. We used the same fabrics to make the bunting, strung throughout the reception space. The garlands of crocheted yarn, strung from the ceiling of the reception space, were made by my aunt, my brother-in-law, one of my bridesmaids, and me.

As one of my bridesmaid gifts, I made 12 different hair pieces for each of the girls to wear (with help from my mom!). For the guestbook, we had the ribbon on my grandma’s antique typewriter replaced, and the hand-typed notes that we came home with were so special! The incredible boutonnieres for the groomsmen were made by my dear friend, bridesmaid and crafter, Kylie Fife. It was truly a community affair, which made it such an emotional and incredible experience to walk into the reception site for the first time and see all the beauty.

Jerod and I designed the “message in a bottle” invitations and made them using 200 tiny antique bottles we scavenged on a Brooklyn beach. We printed the paper invitation component ourselves on quarter sheets of teal paper, and tied and bottle neck with twine. We attempted to hand deliver as many as we could, but the ones that were mailed even managed to make it to South Africa intact!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Accept help! Sometimes this can be difficult to ask for or accept, but once I began delegating and letting people help me, the load felt so much lighter, he the outcome so much more beautiful. Secondly, the wedding is so important, but ultimately, the wedding is a precursor to the marriage, so don’t lose sight of prioritizing that! Throughout our engagement, Jerod and I had at least 1 night a week in which we did not talk about the wedding planning at all, which was really refreshing and important for us.

And everyone says this, but try to really be present on the day of. So many people had told me that their wedding day felt like a blur and it was my desire to really be present, relish in it, and take it all in, especially because we had so many friends in from all over the world that we rarely get to see. After all, when again will you have all the people that you most treasure and love in the same room? I feel like we were really able to do this and it made the memories of the day so sweet and priceless.

Art Deco Texas Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Peacocks, Art Deco, and some serious glam action — need I say more? Captured by our very own Blue Label member Katherine O’Brien, this wedding rocks the vintage glam aesthetic to the core, and just look at that wedding cake! There are loads more photos to be seen, and this is one gallery you won’t want to miss.

From the bride, Allison: I knew from the beginning that I wanted the wedding to be a different and glamorous event, and for the guests to have a great time. I am totally in love with the 1930’s and 40’s culture-movies, clothes, hair, the elegance of the Art Deco era. Since this was our very own big day, we wanted to try to recapture the feel of a fete of years past. Since the vintage trend seems very haute right now, I was able to get tons of inspiration from this and other wedding blogs which became my weekend and after work obsession.

vintage art deco texas weddingvintage art deco texas wedding

We chose Austin, Texas as our location as Matt has some family there, and since all my family would be coming from out-of-state I figured Austin would be a nice place to visit for everyone. At a pool party one day, a friend mentioned that we should check out this place that was part of the Austin Museum of Art called Laguna Gloria. It was built in the early 1900’s and overlooks Lake Austin-a very old world feel. We had our ceremony and reception out on the lawns surrounding the villa.

Colors were inspired by simple elegance of black and white, with pops of peacock inspired colors-teal & copper. My mother and I did the programs as a DIY project. Since it was a Jewish wedding, and Matt’s side of the family is not Jewish, we used it to help describe some of the traditions and steps of the ceremony that were occuring. I also found a poem that my Father had written for me for my Bat Mitzvah over 16 years ago and put that on the last page for the program.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Have a clear vision of what type of feeling you want people to walk away with and keep that in mind during planning. Don’t try to do everything yourself — get help where you can. Try to have everything completely done the week before the wedding and delegate out day of activities so that you can relax and enjoy the time with your family and friends, and future husband. Take that time to reflect on this life changing experience that is happening, and revel in the love and good energy everyone is sending to you. The actual event will go by so quickly. Enjoy every minute of it!

Library Styled Love Shoot

Wedding Design

Photos by:

This bookishly sweet love shoot was sent to us by Josh McCullock, who teamed up with Gibson Events to produce a perfectly conceptualized mini-reception based on books, literature and a little bit of sparkle. You’re sure to fall in love with it just as quickly as I did.

eco-friendly wedding

From the design team: We loved the idea of two bookish types tying the knot in an old library or bookstore. She isn’t the white dress type and opted, instead, for dressy separates in a light palate. He sports new frames and a bow tie for the occasion.

Our bride incorporated hand made paper flowers into her bouquet and her décor carries a restrained, but a little sparkly, aesthetic. Stacked volumes, primitive pewter and mercury glass vessels filled with kale, lambs ear, rose hips, black dahlia, hydrangea, terra cotta and ivory roses compliment the silver rimmed china and glassware.

Custom napkins and padded chair backs featuring Mr. Darcy’s second profession of affection from Austen’s Pride and Prejudice (possibly the most romantic passage in literature?) round out the guest table.

The sophisticated palate of peacock, pewter, terra cotta, ivory and navy presents itself seamlessly throughout the décor and wardrobe. An old typewriter font graces the chair backs, cake, invitation and brew bar menu. Speaking of the invitation, a sweet (but fictional) story of the couple printed on a standard vellum page features the pertinent information in a larger point to make it jump off the page. The theme continues with a book page motif gracing the three layer meringue cake.

DIY Peacock Silk Hair Clip

DIY Projects

Photos by:

Chelsea Costa made easy hair clips out of silk and peacock feathers – don’t they look luxe?

 DIY wedding hair clip

 diy peacock feather hairclip

What you’ll need:
-2 peacock feathers
-scrap of synthetic fabric
-various beads
-plain metal hair clip or bobby pin
-needle and clear thread
-lighter
-glue gun
-scissors

 diy peacock feather hairclip

 diy peacock feather hairclip

Instructions:
Step 1: Trim down feathers to desired length and shape.

Step 2: Gently glue the feathers to the clip, slightly fanned away from each other.

Step 3: Cut a few circles of your scrap fabric, varying from large to small. The largest for this project was approx. 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Imperfection in size and shape is okay!

Step 4: Hold the edges of the fabric circles near the flame of a lighter, to slightly melt them. It should give them a curled finished edge.

Step 5: Stack the circles on top of each other, largest on bottom and gradually smaller toward the top. Sew in the center with clear thread, so they form a flower. Sew your beads in the center of the flower.

Step 6: Glue the flower on the remaining visible portion of your hair clip, hiding the clip and the bottom of the feathers.

Step 7: Give to your bridesmaids as a gift or as an accessory to wear as she walks down the aisle!

Krista + Daniel’s London Meets Brooklyn Wedding

Real Weddings, Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Krista, from New York City and Daniel, from London decided to go for a London-meets-Brooklyn affair and the result is a gorgeous city chic wedding. Their wedding cake design consisted of the London Tower Bridge, the Brooklyn Bridge and a city skyline, with a small plane on the top tier representing their endless travels to meet one another. They chose a color palette of teal, plum and turquoise that when combined with peacock feathers, created a cohesive style that carried throughout the day. Krista’s bouquet was made from anemones, tulips, calla lilies, poppies and peacock feathers, which may be one of my favorite bouquets incorporating feathers! Shot by Julia Newman, whose work never cease to amaze me.

Khara + Tony's Vintage Romance Wedding

Real Weddings, Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Next up is a chic vintage garden wedding in Sonoma. Beautifully captured by Sara from Onelove Photography, who shares a little bit about their wedding day:

Khara and Tony Tapia were married last summer at the Garden Pavilion in Sonoma, California. This private estate hosts less than a dozen weddings a year and is in very high demand, obviously – situated in the heart of Sonoma’s famous Carneros region it sits as a historic landmark. Built in 1856, with a generous wisteria clad veranda, It flanks the spacious lawn together with an elegant shaded pavilion for dining and dancing surrounded by an abundance of flowers, roses, and oleander trees.

Tony’s Hispanic background infused with Khara’s vintage flair brought for quite a fun event, with a mariachi band playing as they walked down the aisle, guests ate paella for dinner and pies for dessert….the bouquets were gorgeous, flanked with bleached peacock feathers! Amazing!

Amber + Sean’s Intimate Monday Wedding

Photos by:

Yes, you read the title right. Their wedding indeed took place on a Monday! What a lovely way to start the week with this lovely intimate vintage inspired wedding. Shot by the talented Ken Kienow, Amber and Sean chose Linn’s Farm Store in Cambria, California to celebrate their union with close friends and family.

A little bit from the bride, Amber:
Sean and I planned this wedding in only seven weeks. This alone made it necessary to keep the wedding small and intimate which was fine with Sean and I because that’s what we wanted. What started as just Sean, me, a witness, and our pastor grew to that plus parents and siblings and finally to an agreement that we would invite 25 people each…you’d think it was the bride who kept increasing the guest list…but it wasn’t, it was Sean :-) We ended up with 30 guests which was perfect given the small setting. We picked a Monday because we knew it was going to be outdoors and likely in a touristy area so we wanted to pick a day that was least likely to be busy. Also, we were on a very tight budget and everything is less expensive during the week (like booking places for our honeymoon!)

Love this session of photos of Sean waiting to see Amber for the first time as a bride:

Initially, we thought we’d have our wedding at the beach but we just weren’t feeling “it”. We drove around one day looking at different locations and as we were ending our tour, on a whim, I suggested we drive out there. It just clicked and we knew this had to be the spot. We immediately drove back into Cambria to Linn’s Restaurant and spoke with Aaron Linn. I told him our idea and he was excited because that is where he got married, his sister got married, and his best friend got married…those were the only 3 weddings that had been done there. He said he’d have to ask mom and dad and get back to me. The Linns said “yes” and the rest is history!

We knew we wanted to do something unique and vintage-y. As for the peacock, after we decided on our location, we went back out there for a visit and were pondering what our color scheme should be given the surroundings. There was a resident peacock and he was strolling around that day which gave me the inspiration. I just love the vibrant colors inspired from that beautiful bird! I asked Sean if he would wear a peacock inspired tie and he liked the idea. In the end, the tie we picked out didn’t work out but from there a theme was born and he ended up with that really cool turquoise print tie which totally worked out! The vintage feel was even more inspired by the location and the surroundings; the old broken down truck, the farmhouses, etc.

I will be announcing the lucky winner from Brilliant Earth’s giveaway today, so check back in a bit!

To design a Hawaiian wedding off the beaten path is not easy task, and Canvas and Canopy Events did it beautifully. I just can’t stop swooning over these images! The fresh color palette and vintage elements look like they were made for each other on this wedding. Photos by Honolulu wedding photographer Christie Pham, whose website is a must see for brides planning a Hawaii wedding!

From Cortnie from Canvas and Canopy Events:
Ombre hand dyed runners inspired from the couture resort collections of the Paris runways faded from bright blue, to light aqua to sea foam green and blended into the backdrop of the sparkling sea. Chandeliers swayed above the tables were also hand dyed in a palette of light blues and greens made from cotton fabric with raw edges, knotted and strung with crystals sparkling throughout. A floral crown was placed on top of each chandelier resembling a woodland fairy. Since we did not want to go the traditional Hawaiian wedding route and create chandeliers from leis of orchids- this was our softer and more custom interpretation. Each chandelier was up-lit and glowing by the time the sun started to set.

We wanted to incorporate the rest of the peacock feel in a non-literal way with the ruffles of the curtain swaying behind the soda bar, the pattern of the brocade napkins which resembled the outline of the peacock monogram, and the color palettes which consistently faded from dark to light throughout the event.

Vanessa from Lollipop Events and Designs shares how they designed the reception and more brilliant details on this beautiful Maui wedding…

The bridal bouquet made out of bleached peacock feathers added drama and high fashion flair to the brides stunning strapless gown. We incorporated the bleached peacock feathers of the bridal bouquet into the event design by placing a feather at each table setting upon a brightly colored pineapple brocade printed napkin, hand sewn with ivory fringe. Flowers were placed in various shaped mercury vessels amidst tall candelabras. Soft peach and pink peonies seemed to float above the silvery mercury vases, which contrasted off of the hand dyed aqua hued table runners.

The Diamond Willow created the custom feather bouquet and flowers were from Dellables Florist in Maui. Photos by Christie Pham Photography.

I diiiiieeeed when the crazy talented ladies over at Lollilop Events and Designs sent over this amazing vintage inspired Hawaiian wedding they designed for their clients a few months ago. I love every single wedding they create, and was over the moon when this one landed in my inbox! The couple got married in Maui, and asked them to incorporate elements of peacocks into their special day. Photos by Christie Pham Photography.

Vanessa from Lollilop Events and Designs says:
Instead of going the traditional jewel tone route, we wanted to soften the palette and use light pastels and bleached peacock feathers for a more subdued underlying effect rather than an obvious peacock theme. The only obvious display of peacocks was visible on the monogram of the invitations and the custom printed canvas gift bags.

For the ceremony site we wanted to maintain the simplicity of the sea filled backdrop and the rustic dried out palm frond pergola. We hung clusters of tight roses dripping with unexpected strands of pearls. A crystal chandelier majestically glittered against the backdrop of the expansive ocean and setting sun. Vintage frames were propped against the rustic archway and covered with moss and flowers as an inviting entrance to the alter under which they said “I Do!” in the romantic setting of tropical perfection.

The brides’ childhood friend was kind enough to write a poem for the couple’s special day. We were so inspired by the time and love put into the poem, we asked her to send us the original handwritten copy. We then made beautiful copies onto our custom design bridal letterhead and passed out to guests in lieu of traditional programs.
