Colorful Modern Palm Springs Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Gideon Photography

Setting eyes on this wedding, we immediately thought it was just so fun: fun to look at and we’re sure that it was fun to be at, too! Gideon Photography captured this brightly-colored and modern Palm Springs wedding to our delight and it was clear that no design stone was left unturned by Amorology when it came to Katie Leclerc (of TV’s “Switched at Birth”) and Brian Habecost’s West Coast wedding. Pops of color were all over the place, from the darling bridesmaids’ dresses and bouquets by Twigg Botanicals, to that ultra-creative dessert table. This wedding is a bright pastel lover’s dream!

From the event designers, Amorology: We teamed up with Backup Backdrops to create three fun displays for ceremony, escort and dessert. Our simple ceremony wall with Plexiglas arrows alluded to our couple’s love of cycling and the idea of sharing the road together. Inspired by their love for playing Cards Against Humanity, we couldn’t help but make a “Katie and Brian Against Humanity” escort display! We had Peanut Press help us design and create oversized playing cards that served as the table names and had fill in the blank statements. Smaller playing cards were placed at our escort wall and held the guests names on one side and a noun listed on the other side. Guests were invited to find their table by pairing their card with the best matched table name. How fun is that? It was such a great way to get guests moving, talking and laughing at their seats! For dessert, we collaborated with Hey There Cupcake and Backup Backdrops again to display an array of yummy treats underneath a bicycle backdrop as another nod to Katie and Brian’s love for biking together.

During cocktail hour, guests enjoyed Cactus Coolers, colorful popsicles from Si Paletas and delicious bites from Room Forty. The popsicles were a life saver during the hot summer weather in Palm Springs! For the head dining table, we created a custom table runner hand painted by Peanut Press and adorned with living fruit and florals by Twigg Botanicals. And the mid-century tables from Folklore Vintage Rentals were a perfect match for the tabletop prettiness from Hostess Haven. Bicycle shaped save-the-dates from Pitbulls and Posies tied our cycling theme together and were complimented by bright, geometric custom stationary by Peanut Press.

Historic Cree Estate Wedding

Modern Weddings

Flora + Fauna

We can’t imagine anywhere better to transport ourselves on a Monday morning than Palm Springs. Today’s wedding from Flora + Fauna, The Events Department, and David Rohr takes us to the uniquely chic celebration of Emily and Nima, who brought together tradition and untraditional ideas for a day that was perfectly tailored to the couple.

historic Cree Estate wedding - photo by Flora and Fauna http://ruffledblog.com/historic-cree-estate-wedding

From the bride, Emily: We wanted to create an atmosphere that felt very welcoming and uniquely ours. We chose the Cree Estate as it is a private home where we could plan the wedding exactly to our liking without any constraints as to which vendors we selected, where we set up the event, etc. It was truly a space to make our own! We aspired for a natural outdoor setting but added a touch of charm and romance with beautiful long wooden tables and overhead string lighting.

Vibrant Eclectic Wedding in Palm Springs

Bohemian Weddings

Any day is a good day for a Palm Springs wedding, like this one from Brian Evans Photography. With a never-ending assortment of colorful blooms and one of the most stylish couples we’ve ever seen (Petal and John Paul met while working at Louis Vuitton), you’re all but guaranteed to fall in love. Chic Productions and The Bloom of Time did beautiful work designing the event and floral decor for the day!

From the photographer, Brian Evans Photography: Petal and John Paul met when they were both working at Louis Vuitton. With a couple like that you know their wedding is going to be packed with style. Within a few minutes of meeting Petal and John Paul I knew they were going to be an amazing couple to work with. They chose to say “I do” at one of the most iconic properties in Palm Springs. From the floral covered antique wedding arch to the beautiful invitations and the couple’s impeccable attire, this wedding was packed full of gorgeous details.

Protea, roses, marigolds, persimmons, thistle, snowberry, coxcomb, orchids, eucalyptus, and early fall foliage withstood the heat, looking fresh, fun, and festive! The couple loved the color turquoise, which is woven throughout the details of the wedding. The bride honored her Persian tradition serving desserts and menu items inspired by her culture, but favoured the non-traditional in choosing fashionable flower halos for her maids instead of hand-held bouquets.

As much as I love seeing all the wonderful details, it’s the real moments that make a wedding special. This wedding was full of them. A secluded first look that took John Paul’s breath away. Petal walking down the aisle radiating with happiness. The wonderful words spoken about the couple. John Paul and his daughter sharing a dance that lit up the entire room. It may have been 110 degrees that day, but it could not have been a more perfect wedding.

Sunny Palm Springs Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

I love fall as much as the next girl (actually maybe even more), but I will never turn down the chance to share some bright, funky, sunny wedding inspiration no matter the time of year. Madison Short Photography, Pop the Cork Designs, and Crimson and Clover Designs put together this brilliant shoot inspired by all things Palm Springs, which means lots of color, tropical elements, and a huge dose of FUN!

sunny Palm Springs wedding inspiration - photo by Madison Short Photography http://ruffledblog.com/sunny-palm-springs-wedding-inspiration

From the event planner, Pop the Cork Designs:
The inspiration for this styled shoot was flamingos, pineapples, and all things Palm Springs! Crimson and Clover provided colorful florals, with mini pineapples scattered all throughout! There were also flamingos in many of the details, from the drink stirrers from Jenna And Jules Designs, to the cake from Buttercream Bakeshop, and even a giant flamingo balloon from Shop Studio Pep! One of my personal favorite parts of the shoot was the dress from Jacklynn Bridal. The unique 2-piece dress, combined with the gorgeous beaded sleeves and high-neckline really added to the uniqueness of this editorial! Jenna from Pop The Cork Designs styled all the details and really made everything come together!

Cultural Wedding at Korakia Pensione

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Erin J Saldana

Today’s couple knew there would be no better excuse to head back to their native California than their wedding day, so they packed their bags and celebrated with friends and family at the jaw-dropping venue Korakia Pensione Palm Springs. With Erin J Saldana capturing images, First Pick Planning in control of planning, and the bride’s sister Candice Benjamin taking on the floral design, it’s little wonder this day turned out as beautifully as it did!

cultural wedding at Korakia Pensione - photo by Erin J Saldana http://ruffledblog.com/cultural-wedding-at-korakia-pensione

From the bride, Ashley: We have been living in Louisiana for 2 years because my husband is in the Army, so we were definitely missing our native California. I knew Palm Springs would be the perfect location for a desert oasis themed wedding. We wanted it to be quirky, laid back, and fun with just a touch of luxury. When I saw Korakia Pensione I knew it would be perfect, and the general manager was so helpful and accommodating I was blown away. Our theme was desert oasis fiesta. I wanted to main colors to be coral and mint with metallic details to pop against that desert background, while also incorporating my husband’s Mexican heritage with the dancers, pinata, and dulces. That mix mash of cultures is what southern California is all about. I knew I wanted to go with a coral for my dress because the color was just amazing, and it felt good to be different. The day was about us celebrating our love with our friends and family, we didn’t want to worry about what was traditional or expected.

My friends and family came together to help us keep our budget low while still having a gorgeous wedding. My sister in law made the aguas frescas and bought the materials to make little signs. All of the centerpieces and bouquets were arranged and designed by my fabulous sister Candice Benjamin with help from my wedding coordinator Jen Bergmark. We went the morning before to the flower district in LA and they just let me go crazy picking out flowers that fit our theme and made my heart flutter. They spent all night piecing together these amazingly unique arrangements. Even the dancers were a high school group that my sister in law belonged to. They were amazing and completely affordable.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Remember when you’re planning that this day is about what the two of you want. Pick three adjectives that the two of you agree on, and when you’re making your decisions make sure that it applies to all three of those things. And don’t think that because you have a low budget that you have to go to a craft store and raid the cheesy wedding aisle. Get creative. If you’re not creative comb through your friends and family and see if anyone is willing to help out. It will make your wedding that much more meaningful.

Retro Modern Wedding in Palm Springs

Modern Weddings

As soon as I hear the words “Palm Springs wedding,” I get a certain image in my head — and this wedding from Krista Mason Photography, Chic Celebrations, Heavenly Blooms is the perfect embodiment of that image. Bold stripes, pinks and oranges, and a poolside reception all fit right in here, and the couple’s retro meets glamorous meets modern vibe is a definite winner!

retro modern wedding in Palm Springs - photo by Krista Mason Photography http://ruffledblog.com/retro-modern-wedding-in-palm-springs

From the event designers, Chic Celebrations: Ivette and Chris fell in love with Palm Springs as they were dating, so they new that is where they would want to celebrate. As we toured the Sand Acre they fell in love with the lush garden and rich history (this is the home that Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio frequently snuck away to). We wanted something a little retro but still a little glamorous. The ghost chairs and sequin linens helped us bring in some sparkle, while the striped runners and vibrant florals helped with a mod-wow factor. We kept the emerald green and black/white stripes throughout the design (invitations, welcome boxes, bouquet ribbons, etc) and through the event.

Guests found were guided to their seats at an over-sized board and found their names painted on each champagne flute at the table. The vintage furniture from Found really helped give a blast from the past out in the garden. And that bar with the heart marquee!!! The next day the couple hosted a pool party and kept the stripes but added some flamingos (what is Palm Springs without some lawn birds, right?!).

Palm Springs Wedding for a Creative Bride and Groom

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

Laura Goldenberger

Laycee and Jon’s wedding is so chock full of great design it’ll make your head spin. The creative couple (the bride is a designer while the groom is a cinematographer) had their hands all over the day, right down to the creative Save-the-Date video you’ll see at the very end. Laura Goldenberger and next saturday affairs did remarkable work on this one, as always!

Palm Springs wedding for a creative bride and groom - photo by Laura Goldenberger http://ruffledblog.com/palm-springs-wedding-for-a-creative-bride-and-groom

From the bride, Laycee: We love the mid Century modern style of our venue Frederick Loewe Estate. The architecture has clean lines, geometric sculptures, design books with large Swiss typography, etc, which is all a cohesive design language used throughout our wedding. The surroundings of the venue is an expansive and beautiful desert-chic landscape. We used this contrast between geometry and organic shapes on everything from our invitation, place cards to welcome signs. We thought that this contrast creates more energy and interest rather than the hand-written, DIY look a lot of other weddings have.

All the napkins and table runners were hand-made from a few different geometric patterned fabric we chose. All the table numbers were house numbers from home depot, spray painted gold. The little geometric shapes holding up the name cards were made from clay, cut into unique shapes and baked in the oven to harden. Quite a few of the geometric shaped terrariums were made from 90s lamps, with the light bulbs and cords removed. The 2 white columns with the clear casing on top at our altar were also custom made. I designed our own letterpress wedding invitation, all the place cards, name cards, welcome signs and all other collaterals. The wedding favors were designed by me as well: a pair of letter press coasters in black and white, with gold patterns. Our Save the Date was a collaboration between Jon and I. I design for a living and he produces video for a living. This piece is a perfect example of the magic we create together, and a “making of” teaser of the real wedding invitation.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I think the trick to planning a great wedding is to have a clear vision of your design aesthetic or theme from the get-go and stick with it throughout. Not to say everything needs to look the same, but if there’s a central theme threading everything together, the entire look will be cohesive. Changing minds about the look will often create disjointed experiences and confuse yourself as well. Also, do as much as you can but not over commit. Spend your money on the most important things like the venue and catering. It’s totally okay to let some of the smaller things go. They won’t have as big of an impact to your wedding as the venue and catering will.

Palm Springs Wedding with Tattooed Rockers

Modern Weddings

Striped table runners, geometric table numbers, a lollipop escort card display, all wrapped up in an unbeatable Palm Springs setting make this wedding from Lovers of Love Photography, Wild Heart Events, and The Little Branch a tough one not to love. Cara and Tony let their love for music and each other shine through brilliantly on their wedding day, which was full of brilliant ideas from start to finish!

Palm Springs wedding with tattooed rockers - photo by Lovers of Love Photography http://ruffledblog.com/palm-springs-wedding-with-tattooed-rockers

From the event designer, Jaime of Wild Heart Events: When Cara and Tony, 2 very stylish, tattooed rockers, approached me about their wedding in Palm Springs, I couldn’t have been more excited. We explored a few different color palettes before deciding on a classic blush, black and white with pops of gold and pink. We enhanced the classic deco styling of the Viceroy with custom table numbers and place cards, black and white striped table runners and edgy vessels for the florals (which The Little Branch totally nailed)!

A few of my favorite elements of the night were the glittered lollipop escort display and the hanging ribbon and drop bulb installation at the entrance to the ballroom. I think the highlight of the evening was after the beautiful al fresco dinner, when guests were invited inside the ballroom for live music by bands of the bridesmaids and groomsmen. Tony even jumped on guitar to serenade his bride!

Modern Boho Wedding in Palm Springs

Bohemian Weddings

Palm Springs, California is known for a number of things, but in our circles it’s known first and foremost as a destination for some of the coolest weddings we’ve ever seen. Jared and Hollie’s wedding at The O’Donnell House was full of great design, quirkiness, and fun – the ideal recipe for an amazing day, especially when paired with the always-wonderful photography of EPlove!

From the bride, Hollie: Jared and I knew we wanted a party. We wanted an informal vibe with breathtaking views. It’s Palm Springs in November – so the weather doesn’t get any better than that. We wanted our friends and families who traveled to be there for our big day to relish in the beauty that is the California desert! I wanted to keep things simple, but provide opportunities for our loved one to create memorable moments!

Our wedding was easy breezy romantic with a rowdy-party vibe :) I told the girls to pick out their own dresses but asked to wear a natural soft neutral and the boys were asked to wear shades of grey. The venue grounds are SO INSANELY gorgeous that I just wanted to complement them. The homemade dreamcatchers – all 80 of them – were handmade by my mama! We found antique doliles on etsy; and the feathers/beads had been collected over many years by a friend who makes jewelry! The beautiful ceremony arch was hand carved out of wood by Jared’s brother!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? 1- Take dance lessons. It was the best thing for us. During all the craziness of our wedding planning, plus working our demanding jobs – we barely had any us time. When we would go to our dance lessons we had a chance to slow down and connect to one another. To be in the moment and be in love! 2- Hire superstars. Our wedding was the best day ever because of the people who we asked to help execute our vision and they all killed it!

Studio Castillero

If you’re a longtime follower of the blog, you know we have a weak spot for Palm Springs weddings. If this is your first visit, let this wedding from Studio Castillero and CCL Weddings & Events be an introduction to the amazingness that is Palm Springs! Barbara and Akiva’s wedding was in no short supply of gorgeous fashion, jaw-dropping scenery, and thoughtful details like antique broach escort cards that make our hearts sing.

tropical glam wedding in Palm Springs - photo by Studio Castillero http://ruffledblog.com/tropical-glam-wedding-in-palm-springs

From the bride, Barbara: Akiva and I were living in Michigan in the middle of the polar vortex when we were planning our wedding and we were freezing. As a result, we knew we wanted to be somewhere warm, and we’d been to Palm Springs before and enjoyed it. I wanted the style to be vintage and romantic and I wanted it to feel relaxed/comfortable. Since Akiva is Jewish and his religious background is very important to him, we wanted to weave parts of his heritage into the ceremony as well.

My wedding planner asked me if there was a theme early in the process and I honestly didn’t realize weddings had themes, so my friends and I joked that the theme would be “goth precious moments,” like scary wide-eyed dolls — clearly this did not happen. Our color scheme was teal/greenish blue/turquoise and tan, but we didn’t always stick to it. I really love antique jewelry so I decided to find antique brooches at thrift stores in all the places that I’ve lived in my life–California, Iowa, Michigan, and New York–and attach them to the escort cards as party favors. My mom and some of her friends ended up helping me collect the brooches, and when I had collected enough, I tried to match the brooches with each guest’s personality.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My number one piece of advice is make sure you are absolutely present on your wedding day. Be selfish; don’t let people ask you questions about where things are supposed to go or who is charge of what — delegate any last minute duties to close friends or family members who will be happy to help. You are done planning your wedding, so all you need to do is focus on the fact you are getting married to someone you love and enjoy everything. Other advice is make sure you focus on things that mean a lot to you and put your money there. I really wanted healthy, delicious, local food because I’m a dietitian and I wanted to provide food that fit all my guests’ dietary restrictions and tasted amazing. Of all my amazing vendors, I really want to give a shout out to Dash and a Handful — my caterer who was so supportive of my food ideas and really produced absolutely delicious food.

Alcazar Hotel Wedding with Succulents

Modern Weddings

We don’t know how you do it, Palm Springs, but you always seem to blow us away with your incredible weddings. We can’t blame Maud and Bill for wanting their family and friends to join them in such a stunning location as they exchange vows, and the day was made even that much more special with the help of Fondly Forever Photography and Artisan Event Floral Decor taking control over the design. The result is a remarkable desert wedding full of succulents, marquee lights, driftwood, and pure Palm Springs charm.

Palm Springs Wedding with Succulents - photo by Fondly Forever http://ruffledblog.com/palm-springs-wedding-with-succulents

From the bride, Maud: We love Palm Springs and wanted our families to see this beautiful location. My family is from France and Bill’s family is from Boston, so we knew everyone would be blown away by the beautiful desert landscape. We didn’t really have colors or a theme in mind when we first spoke with Joey from Artisan Events. The only direction that we gave was that we wanted desert flowers and that we wanted to include driftwood in our centerpieces. From the beginning we completed trusted Joey and the fantastic Artisan team, and we were completely blown away by the décor! Everything looked absolutely beautiful!

For the DIY items, we created a How to Survive a Bilingual Wedding guide, with a few key phrases in English and French for our guests to be able to communicate, that we put on each table and a Kissing Menu to get our guests to sing and dance during dinner. We also put together our favors, which were little bottles containing French candied almonds. It is so hard to pick just one favorite memory! I fondly remember the moment Joey from Artisan Events handed me my bouquet, the moment Bill and I took our first look photos and I finally showed Bill my wedding dress, the beautiful ceremony that our dads officiated in both English and French and the amazing speeches from my dad, my brother-in-law, and my three beautiful friends. We both loved the fact that the wedding turned into a pool party where every single guest ended up in the pool!

Free Spirited Palm Springs Wedding

Modern Weddings

Every color I’ve ever loved is in this wedding from Brian Evans Photography and Desert Floral Importers, so you can imagine why I’m so smitten. Add in a bride with a bohemian aesthetic and incredible braided hair, desert surroundings, and a most perfect wedding playlist and well, this wedding just inches closer and closer to the top of my favorites list.

Free Spirited Palm Springs Wedding - photo by Brian Evans Photography http://ruffledblog.com/free-spirited-palm-springs-wedding

From the bride, Brooke: Our wedding vision was free spirited, desert inspired, bohemian, and slightly rustic. I feel like we really captured the style & feeling therefore creating the overall look we were aiming for. Our color scheme involved pops of bright colors that complemented the desertscape. All of the floral arrangements featured a plethora of sage green succulents with pops of orange & some smaller bursts of pink & yellow. The bridesmaids dresses were a dusty poppy color.

As for a DIY element, I crafted an old vintage globe as the centerpiece for our water table. I applied script that read “10-4-14 / Greg & Brooke O’Bryant / Palm Springs”. I veered away from traditional centerpieces for the farm tables & instead opted for several brown medicine bottles with a few flowers in each. I asked our florists if they could arrange them down the length of the table. Though I technically didn’t “do it myself”, I felt that it lent a certain DIY aesthetic.

From the photographer, Brian Evans: Brooke and Greg’s Palm Springs wedding could not have been more perfect. The setting for their special day was The Sand Acre Estate. This 1933 Spanish Villa is rumored to have been frequented by Marilyn Monroe and immediately takes you back in time to a glamorous Palm Springs. This villa was the perfect fit for the stylish couple. Brooke’s silk and lace dress was simple yet elegant. Greg was looking sharp as could be in his chambray suit and white shoes. The two of them together was absolute perfection. Their intimate ceremony was heartwarming to say the least and included a one of a kind Chuppa that was beyond words. The vibrant florals added a playful pop of color. Framed by soft drapery and classic chandeliers, the open-air reception was the highlight of the evening. The breathtaking San Jacinto mountains and starry sky made the perfect backdrop for this desert-inspired wedding. Even with all the stunning scenery it was their love and the small group of friends and family that really made the day special. I knew their wedding was going to special from our first meeting and I am so fortunate to have been able to capture it.

If ever there was a venue that just seems to only get better throughout the years, it has to be the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs. Newlyweds Les and Lauren were instantly drawn to its cool charm, which mixed perfectly with their retro-inspired vision for their wedding day. As always, Studio Castillero worked magic behind the camera!

From the bride, Lauren: The style we envisioned for our wedding was that we wanted to create a bohemian, desert party! Les and I both love classic rock and décor from the 60s and 70s. We wanted to incorporate a cool, vintage vibe into our own wedding. We also wanted our guests to feel comfortable and be able to have fun! So many of our guests traveled from Texas and beyond, that we wanted their entire experience to be memorable and feel like a vacation.

Flower recipe: My bouquet and the bridesmaids’ bouquets had a mix of tea roses and wildflowers. The boutonnieres for Les and his groomsmen were made with strawflowers and a leaf from our magnolia tree in our own backyard. The large planters that decorated the ceremony and the table arrangements used succulents and cacti also from our own backyard mixed with an eclectic assortment of florals. On the chuppah our florist used protea flowers, strawflowers and firecracker flowers that we found at the Floral Mart in Downtown LA.

Our color scheme was loosely based on the image we displayed behind our cake table: Sunset with Joshua Tree Silhouettes by Dave Getzschman. We fell in love with the photograph and one of our friends graciously printed the image on an adhesive vinyl that was hung behind our cake table. It was a stunning way to cover an otherwise plain white wall. We created so many of the elements for the wedding: the escort card board and escort cards, the table numbers, the place cards, the menus, the programs and all of the welcome bags. We had a great time working together on all of these items!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Our advice for couples planning their weddings now would be to not be afraid to incorporate your own style into your wedding. Les and I wanted our wedding to feel like a reflection of ourselves, so we bent a lot of “traditional wedding rules.” We were thrilled with how everything turned out and truly feel that it was the best day! We also ended up having our wedding on a Thursday which fit better with our budget and encouraged guests to stay for the remainder of the weekend. It was great being able to spend the additional time with our out of town guests in Palm Springs and felt like a vacation since we were able to enjoy the weekend post wedding!

Palm Springs weddings — how can they be topped? When it’s a wedding at The Parker, well, it just can’t. Carrie and Jeff brought a certified A-team on board to make their dream wedding day a reality, a team that includes Lauren Scotti, Bliss Events, and Artisan Events. This beautiful day is chock full of sweet details to behold, so make sure you catch them all!

From the bride, Carrie: A small, intimate, simple rustic wedding filled with lots of love, family & friends. We wanted it to be a fun party! We didn’t really have a color scheme, since we were getting married in Palm Springs we were inspired by the colors of the desert: blush & sage. We made our table numbers and reception cards for our guests to find their table. I pulled most of my inspiration from Pinterest and etsy.

Floral recipe: My bouquet and floral arrangements were grounded in Proteas. I love that they are a desert flower with a strong magenta color way that would complement the succulents that we wanted for our centerpieces. We found out wooden centerpieces (vintage Chinese rice bowls) at the Pasadena Flea market.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Start with a budget first (don’t forget to factor in service charge and taxes into your budget as I did not & it was a last minute unpleasant surprise right before the wedding), then chose the location. Be flexible with dates if you fall in love with a location.

The Melideos

At this point, it’s almost a set-in-stone fact — you can’t beat a wedding at Ace Hotel Palm Springs. Actually, you really can’t beat a wedding at The Ace with a team of vendors including The Melideos, Beau & Arrow Events, and Root75. Just wait until you see the seating chart, the floral arrangements, the crocheted details by the bride, and the general perfection of this wedding day!

From the bride, Rachel: We were going for a intimate dinner party with our closest family and friends. We loved the Ace Hotel’s vibe in Palm Springs and overall aesthetic, so it definitely helped make that vision come true in the Commune venue, set next to a pool with glass garage like doors, and the mountains hanging high above us. Although it ended up with a few more folks than we envisioned, just over 100, it definitely felt like an intimate dinner party in our backyard with family style serving, bistro lights, and an light breeze in the air. We worked closely with Beau and Arrow events from San Diego to come up with the perfect overall feel for the room. We landed on the perfect indigo/rust/desert natural color scheme, and decorated the room with vintage rentals from Yeah Rentals and other pieces we picked up at the Pasadena Rose Bowl Flea. To finish it off the lovely ladies from Root75 gave us the unique and perfectly curated arrangements for each table. We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect wedding to reflect my husband and I design aesthetic.

Desert oasis, all natural both in the decoration and ease in the night’s progression. We used a Moroccan color scheme – indigo, rust, and natural desert hues. I crocheted all the kippahs (for all the men at the wedding) for the ceremony as well as my husbands kippah, sewed all the napkins for the dinner so that we could give them out to friends/family and souvenirs with the thank you notes, made all the candle (sage scented soy wax) favors for the guests to take at the end of the night with personalized labels, Mexican mercado welcome bags with pellegrino, larabars, personalized matches, tangerines, and other snacks, and personalized a sign in book with our initials.

Oh, Ace Hotel, how we love thee. Is there any space more ideal for a retro-meets-modern wedding? Lauren and Derek’s day was just such a wedding, filled with no shortage of glamorous details! Jenavieve Belair and Billy Pruden of Carly Rae Design knocked this one way out of the park.

From the bride, Lauren: Derek and I have a long history… starting with a 14-year friendship that quickly changed with a single kiss 7 years ago. We wanted a space to celebrate our adventure and our wedding weekend was just that. A weekend to celebrate our incredible circle of family and friends who have loved and nurtured us to the moon and back.

We wanted a weekend that was playful, yet chic. Modern, yet classic. We wanted GOLD… and we got gold. From beach balls in the pool to gold flamingos surrounding our ceremony/cocktail hour space… Reggae cocktail hour to family style fried chicken and mac and cheese, we made it our day. Our theme was “desert chic” and our colors were black, white, nude, and gold (sequins and glitter). We made the signs and spray painted the flamingos gold. Billy of Carly Rae Design made our black and gold glittered aisle runner which rocked my world.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? You’re celebrating a marriage, a life long party… not just planning a day. When you get in a tiff with your fiancé about costs (I promise it will happen), blurt out “I love you” right in the middle of a sentence. It will remind you what matters most. Don’t stop eating dessert in an attempt to slim down. These people love you in sweats with messy hair and happy equals gorgeous. Your wedding is about standing next to the person you’re crazy about, in front of your nearest and dearest, and promising to love each other forever. THAT is what makes the perfect wedding.

Elegant Palm Springs Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Dave Richards

If ever there was a wedding that screamed “Palm Springs elegance,” this would be the one. We’ve got a team of wedding professionals who are no strangers to the Palm Springs scene, and knocked this wedding far out the park – including Dave Richards, Celebrations of Joy, and Arrangements just to name a few.

elegant palm springs wedding // via ruffledblog.com

From the bride, Amanda: We wanted something that was both elegant and romantic with a modern twist. We also wanted to keep our wedding small (less than 65 people) and therefore it was important that we made our wedding venues feel as intimate as possible.

I would say that our color scheme was a mix of purples, black, white, silver, and green. Since all of our spaces were outside, we felt that incorporating natural elements like olive branches, artichokes, succulents etc. would enrich our design as well as accentuate and offset the types of flowers we both liked (dahlias, garden roses, peonies.) As far as adjectives go, I would repeat what was written above… elegant, romantic, modern, intimate. I would even say that we wanted to create a fairytale-like feel with the bistro lighting, staggered candle displays, and votives. As for DIY projects, the only one that we did was to write a poem, frame it, and display it next to our wedding favors to encourage guests to take their gift – white pashmina scarves. Additionally, we decided to write our own ceremony. We used traditional vows, but changed just about everything else and had Peter’s Father officiate (He obtained a one day certification.)

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t spend too much on the small details. Chances are most people won’t notice that you had your place cards done by a calligrapher or that your cake had 3 tiers instead of 2, etc. Also, the most important thing to remember is that a wedding is a celebration of love – so don’t sweat the small stuff and don’t forget to celebrate, have fun, enjoy every minute!

From the bride, Amanda: We had the hashtag “debacker magic” because we wanted a magical wedding. AND because all the men in the family say they have the DeBacker magic. What was important was family, friends, dancing and food. We had an “I love you to the moon” wedding theme. I incorporated a 1920’s modern feel to match the atmosphere of the Ace. We had gold and white chevron runners, bright flowers with gold accents and vintage 1920’s framed sheet music. For escort table we used marquee letters and chalkboard signs. I used paper flowers for our archway to save money and they matched perfect! We bought tons of cafe lights to fill the room with soft light. Our photobooth backdrop was inspired by old “man in the moon” photos. We had the Ace cater and the food was amazing! It was tacos! Our guest said it was the best wedding food they ever had. It’s all about throwing a great party and being in love.

I highly recommend the first look. We got married at sunset so we had to do the first look. At first I was concerned it would take away from the ceremony, but it was amazing! It actually added another “experience” for the day that was exciting, romantic and personal. When I walked down the aisle it was a completely different feeling and moment, and now I had 2 of those moments! My husband cried almost the whole ceremony and first look and I laughed and smiled all day. We were full of emotion and all the pictures captured that! The wedding video we received after was a splurge, but the best decision I made. I have watched it over and over.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? No matter how many times you hear it from other brides and don’t believe it, the day goes SO FAST. You don’t care about the things you thought you would or notice the things you thought you would. Start planning early so you can relax closer to the date.Create an atmosphere from your heart. What mattered most to me was music, lighting and great food. I wanted to throw a party! Use Etsy for every idea you have, they have it all. I did all the planning and ideas myself. Also, please get a hair and makeup person! I know it’s expensive, but it’s so worth it! Relax, drink champagne and take it all in. Mine were amazing.

Moroccan Inspired Palm Springs Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Laurel and Nader hoped for a wedding day that blended their cultural backgrounds and interests, which just so happen to be richly colorful and visually exciting. The day was highlighted by Sarah of Hazelwood Photography and the wedding venue, Korakia Pensione, which is rich in Moroccan architecture and brilliant design.

moroccan inspired weddings

From the bride, Laurel: We envisioned the style and feel of our wedding as basically having a sort of gypsy bohemian 60s/70s rock n roll kind of vibe. We were very much inspired by our favorite music and places in the world. We wanted it to have kind of the look and feel of the famous trip to India that the Beatles took in the 1960’s to visit the Maharishi. I went to Marrakech several years ago, which is one of the most magical places I’ve ever visited and was also very much inspired by the gorgeous mix of Bedouin and French culture and Moorish architecture there, similar to that of Korakia Pensione, our venue. My husband is Persian so we also wanted to include some Zoroastrian elements and traditions as well. Essentially, I think we just wanted it to have the feel of traveling to a distant and exotic land and to be an eclectic mix of all of our favorite things.

I planned and designed the wedding myself so it was almost entirely DIY with the exception of our catering, furniture and florist. We are very fortunate to have an amazingly talented group of friends comprised of artists and designers who helped out with literally everything, with everyone bringing their own unique contributions to the table. For example, my amazing photographer and dear friend Sarah Morrison (Hazelwood Photo) has such an incredible eye that, in addition to taking our gorgeous photos, was also tremendous at bringing all of these beautiful elements together to truly visually capture the essence of our wedding. Another dear friend of mine, Michael Carbaugh, who is a professional art director with absolutely impeccable taste, was invaluable with sourcing and design throughout the entire process.

Rather than attendants I had four flower girls, each of whom had her own one of a kind traditional style Mexican sundress accessorized with huarache sandals and majolica rose flower crowns made by our florist. We even coordinated our looks with our officiant who wore a gorgeous white floor length Free People gown. Everyone wore white except me.

Wedding Music:
We hired a traditional Indian band comprised of a sitar player, acoustic guitar player and drummer to do the music for our processional and during cocktail hour. I wanted them to play “Three King Fishers” by Donovan when I walked down the aisle, which they learned to play specifically for the ceremony and it was amazing. During cocktail hour they played a mix of traditional Indian sitar songs combined with some sitar songs from the 1960’s, such as Norwegian Wood by the Beatles. For the flower girls and for the recessional we played instrumental songs by a Persian guitarist, Behdad Mogadassi, that sound a bit like classical Spanish guitar music, yet with a distinctly Persian flair.

Ace Hotel Palm Springs Wedding

The Melideos

If you ask me, Palm Springs weddings are the new standard in cool. The Melideos sent us this wedding straight from The Ace Hotel, a destination we’re just crazy about. Bride Cindy planned her big day full of watercolors, pops of coral and plenty of succulents to make us fall in love.

ace hotel palm springs wedding

From the bride, Cindy: We wanted our wedding to be a party! We wanted it in a fun, comfortable atmosphere where everyone can stay the weekend and celebrate with us or just make it a day trip from LA. Once we found the ACE Hotel in Palm Springs for our venue everything just came together for us. I wanted the style and feel to represent us, romantic and colorful with some wild and crazy fun!

My color scheme was desert pastels, soft watercolors with a pop of bright coral. Almost everything we did was DIY. I could not have done any of it without my family and friends! The Save The Date’s and Invitations were created, made, and put together by me and my bridesmaids. My maid of honor did all the programs and my sister-in-law did all the artwork. My sister-in-law also did all the decorations at the wedding and really made all my crazy visions come to life! My bridesmaids and I potted all the succulents and cacti and my bridesmaids made the potted succulent seating chart with names and table numbers. My brothers constructed and erected the arbor that we got married under which was beautiful! And a friend did all my flowers, bouquets and boutonnieres.

Palm Springs Desert Wedding

EPLove

What’s not to love about a wedding with cactus and succulents popping up here and there? Diana and Jeff’s wedding was the perfect meld of desert minimalism and romantic garden, right in the heart of Palm Springs, California. The always-incredible EPLove was on hand to capture every detail to a T:

palm springs wedding
palm springs weddings

From the bride, Diana: Initially we wanted a modern, desert-inspired wedding, but after finding our location – the lush Cree Estate in Palm Springs – we fell in love with its rustic, romantic gardens framed by contrasting desert mountains in the distance. The feel was intimate and sweet with plenty of space and sky.

We chose colors that reflected natural desert elements: sand, stone, dusty greens, with pops of magenta and yellow to reflect cactus flowers in bloom. We had many, MANY DIY projects, from invitations, website, ceremony decor including the silk magenta blossoms on the cacti and the cacti themselves (which we grew from seedlings!), to designing temporary tattoos, flower arranging, the guest seating list (a refinished old door with chalkboard panes), etc, etc.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? You may think that you need everything to be perfect the day of your wedding, but it’s much more important to ENJOY the day of your wedding! Be selective with your DIY projects rather than try to do everything yourself. This means accepting help from others and letting go of certain things.

When bride Lisa didn’t know quite where to start in planning her wedding, she turned to the most natural of inspirations: her home shared with groom Lenny. The couple picked fabrics and colors that reminded them of some favorite motifs — wallpapers, upholstery, or a favorite t-shirt. Leave the rest to the dream team of Annie McElwain, Sitting in a Tree Events, and The Floral Lab for one beautiful wedding recipe!

bride and groom

From the bride, Lisa: In the perfect world we would have had a backyard wedding, but unfortunately our backyard isn’t big enough. We chose the La Casa courtyard at La Quinta Resort for it’s backyard vibe and because we knew the resort would be a perfect place for our guests to spend a relaxing weekend. We set the date almost sixteen months before the wedding so we had plenty of time to figure out exactly what we wanted and make or find all of the personal touches. There were several sunrise trips to the Rose Bowl flea market to find vintage furniture and suitcases, hours spent on eBay finding vintage table coverings and blue mason jars and many late nights spent with the sewing machine or hand stamping place cards but it was so worth it.

We didn’t have a color scheme or even a theme in mind but we knew that we wanted everything to have our personal touch on it. With this in mind, we chose a few fabrics that reminded us of things in our home (wallpaper, a chair covering, a favorite shirt) and we used them as a jumping off point for the rest of the design. Along with my mom and my bridesmaids, I sewed runners for every table, pennants to decorate the cocktail hour, and favor bags to be filled with my mother’s homemade salted pumpkin caramels. I used the same fabric as a backdrop for the “safari” table in the cocktail hour. As a big thank you to all of the guests that contributed to our honeymoon safari, I mounted papier maché animal heads in vintage picture frames (collected from Goodwill) and staged them with vintage suitcases and a homemade chalkboard sign thanking our guests. We continued the “safari” theme with hundreds of miniature animal figurines that we spray-painted gold all over the dining tables.

We customized the family style dinner menu to serve things that we often make at home and served wine from a vineyard down the road from my parents’ house. We couldn’t decide on just one cake so we chose a lemon/rosemary olive oil cake and a salted-caramel chocolate cake. Everyone said the food was wonderful (we didn’t have time to eat!). We loved DJ Swon who kept everyone dancing for hours and I am so happy that we chose Magnolia for our photo booth- we have great photos of all of our guests. It was truly the best party that my husband and I have ever been to!

Studio Castillero

I just about jumped out of my seat when I saw this wedding from Studio Castillero. It’s at one of my all-time favorite venues, The Parker Palm Springs, has the incredible talent of Sitting in a Tree Events and The Floral Lab, and, well, it just exudes coolness. Prepare yourself for some bright party action to perk up the start of your weekend!

The look of our wedding was bright, bohemian, and a little bit quirky. We used a lot of personal elements in the décor, such as my grandma’s vintage tea cups and family silver. We also spent the year picking up trinkets, vases and other decorative elements at flea markets and thrift stores. A girlfriend and I picked out the fabric for the runners and had them made. I really wanted our wedding to have an eclectic feel but used shades of oranges, yellows and pinks to help tie the look together.

Southwestern Palm Springs Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

I think we’ve all noticed a recent uptick in the trend of southwestern wedding style, and I for one am thrilled to see all the different looks under this umbrella! Photographer Abi Q and Enjoy Events Co. joined forces in this phenomenal Palm Springs wedding to bring us some seriously beautiful nuptials. Can I just say how madly in love I am with the couple’s modern wedding invitations?

bride in field

From the bride, Nicole: We wanted the wedding to be modern and fresh, but also a little bit bohemian to incorporate our love of vintage finds. We were inspired by the location – at the base of the San Jacinto Mountains – to incorporate natural elements of the surrounding landscape to keep the decor feeling earthy and not overly done.

I fell in love with the gown immediately. It had a modern shape, which I was looking for, but was still very feminine and romantic. I also loved the texture of the fabric – I thought it was perfect for my fall wedding. I found the dress at Nordstrom with my mother, she helped me decide on the dress and also purchased it for me – it was something she had been looking forward to forever – very sweet.

The color scheme was inspired by the desert: pale peach, smoky persimmon, bone, agave green, natural linen. The mid-century modern architecture in Palm Springs inspired the lounge area and bentwood dining chairs – dipped in white and turquoise for a pop of color. Tribal print textiles were incorporated throughout the decor – from Ikat and Navajo throw pillows to brightly colored chevrons painted on the pedestals that flanked the ceremony location. Loose ribbons adorned the backs chairs of the bride and groom. Guests waved wands of feathers and ribbon as the new couple were announced. Succulent seating cards, place settings, menus, invitations, and all other paper goods were DIY by the groom, who is a brand identity designer.

When Marc and Gloria began planning their wedding, they started with what was most important to them: a jaw-dropping venue, The Parker Palm Springs. With such a fresh and modern site, everything else began to fall into place for their casual yet elegant wedding photographed here by Dave Richards. If you’re like me, you’ll fall in love with Gloria’s off-the-shoulder wedding gown from Carolina Herrera!

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? These are probably obvious but think they’re worth pointing out anyway: Don’t do/buy things just because you’ve seen everyone else do the same. Don’t sweat the small stuff – no one else probably will care or remember! And most importantly, make sure to have fun! Oh, and since we were engaged for awhile, we put a moratorium on wedding related questions early on in the engagement, which I thought was good for our sanity.

Fresh Palm Springs Wedding

Garden Weddings

As soon as we saw this Palm Springs wedding from Katie Scott of SWOON by Katie, we instantly fell in love with its bright colors and fresh decor. With an all-star team of vendors including Carter and Cook Event Design and Modern Bouquet at Palm Springs’ Viceroy Hotel, how could this wedding deliver anything less than pure beauty?

palm springs wedding

From the bride, Jaymi: I like to call our wedding style Anthropologie with a touch of Z Gallerie. I scheduled several venue appointments out in Palm Springs for the next weekend and I took my mom. once we got to Viceroy, I just knew it was the place! I got that bridal feeling that I had not had at any other venue. Cute, quaint, romantic, a garden setting, outdoors, it couldn’t have been more perfect. I called Will and told him… I think it’s the one. I set up another appointment to bring him back the following weekend, and together we fell in love!

The colors of our wedding were pink and yellows with a touch of teal (all I wanted was peonies and what I like to call “fluffy flowers”). Our wedding was different; we did several non traditional things, guests told me that it was the most touching ceremony they had been to. Very heartfelt and very spiritual. The wedding really represented us as a couple– fun, romantic, and kind of crazy.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Don’t let the details, the family, and the coordinating make you crazy, remember all the beautiful reasons you are getting married in the first place. The day of the wedding you just need to release everything and let your coordinators take over — if there are any bumps in the day just remember that everything happens for a reason and just embrace it, what’s meant to be will be.

I don’t know about you, but whenever I hear the words “Palm Springs” and “wedding” in the same sentence, my heart skips a beat. From trendy to traditional, Palm Springs soirees are always utterly and hopelessly chic. Kim and Jeff’s wedding shot by Paige Lowe is a blend of both with a dash of humor. Their menus featuring the phrase “Welcome to the Jeff and Kim’s Show.” set the tone for a down-to-earth gorgeous day. We love that they chose their venue as their main source of decor – read on to hear it from the bride, Kim:

From the bride, Kim: We wanted to feel like we could be ourselves–natural, light, loving, and fun! We wanted it to have a comfortable and non traditional feel where people could relax and enjoy. No stuffy banquet rooms–no fluorescent lights!

We wanted to have our wedding at a venue where we did NOT need decorations. The O’Donnell house was the main decorative piece. It was a simple, elegant, historic Spanish home. Because the house was my decorative piece, everything else was white. My flower bouquets had white roses and my flower arrangements were full of white hydrangea and white orchids. The flowers sat on a round mirror with a few votive candles to create a romantic ambiance. The table arrangements were also simple. The linens were pearl and the china was classic white. Aside from the flatware and napkins, we had a champagne, wine, and water glass at the table, no fuss.

Not only do you need someone to facilitate on the day of your wedding, but you need someone with experience to help you organize the small stuff… trust me there are things you have not thought of! Make sure your coordinator is a go-getter who can manage the other vendors and ensure the day goes great! Trust me there are a zillion things that go on the last minute, and you don’t want to have to worry about them. 2. It’s your wedding! Don’t stress over your guests’ wants/needs. This is about you and your soon to be husband sharing your love for each other in a way that expresses who you are. 3. Less is More!

Palms Springs Christmas Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

When Yuna Leonard showed us this wedding they shot, we squealed with glee! Phil and Sasheen met in London 15 years ago, and tied the knot sunny Palm Springs at Elvis’ Honeymoon Estate, where he lived with Priscilla during their first year of marriage. So add Palms Springs and Elvis to a Christmas theme, and what do you get? Pure vintage bliss. Their vintage Christmas inspiration was carried throughout with silver and pink, that was also translated onto gorgeous florals designed by Sugar Branch Events. Don’t miss the adorable highlight film from Hello Super 8 at the end.

From the photographer, Yuna Leonard: Phil + Sasheen chose an classic and authentic vintage, mid-century style in as the setting for their wedding, Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway Estate, Palm Springs. They adore all things 50s-60s and their wedding was full of their characters. The love story began in London where Sasheen met Phil and fell in love. The bride’s dress was from 1961 and the grooms suit was from the same era and Palm Springs just oozes the mid-century design aesthetic that they live and love. The wedding colors are baby pink and silver {A vintage Christmas theme!} There were only 36 guests. Close families and best friends. Very intimate and very special. These lovebirds rock the day!

Phil and Sasheen are lovely. Both soft spoken and incredibly warm as individuals, together they are even more welcoming and kind. They have been together since 1997, so needless to say their families were overjoyed when they announced they were finally engaged! The couple reside in the Bay Area but decided on a mini destination wedding in sunny Palm Springs. Sasheen and Phil are huge music fans (Phil especially loves Elvis), so it seemed only natural that they tie the knot at the Elvis Honeymoon Estate where Elvis and Priscilla spent their first year of marriage.

Marveling at all the old rock and roll memorabilia, Sasheen and Phil felt instantly connected to the mid-century estate and wanted a wedding that reflected their individual styles and paid homage to the iconic rock and roll legend… The owner of the bakery where they ordered their cake recommended a pastor to officiate their wedding, and as fate would have it, after they met with him, Phil remembered that he had played in a band with Pastor Chad 20 years ago in London! It was meant to be! The whole wedding was a complete genuine reflection of Sasheen and Phil and we wish them all the happiness as they continue their lives together.

Forgive the pun, but this Palm Springs wedding blows all others out of the water. In fact, it was so wonderful the couple made a two-day celebration of it, complete with — wait for it — synchronized swimmers. Also, this couple has some of the cutest darn wedding favors we’ve ever seen. Each guest received a pre-stamped envelope to encourage him or her to send a letter to a loved one. Adorable, no? We owe endless thanks to our very own Blue Label member Souder Photography for sharing and to Sitting in a Tree for designing such fabulous fête!

From the bride. Our wedding was a destination wedding in Palm Springs, California with 75 of our closest friends and family who came from Seattle and New York. We wanted the wedding to feel warm and welcoming to all of our guests and not over the top. The wedding took place at the Viceroy, where there are three separate areas for the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception. That made it fun, as we weren’t locked into one look.

I found these great 1920s fortune teller cards online that were illustrated by the artist Dwig. A woman on Etsy had collected the whole set and sold the scanned images online for $3 for the lot. My mom is a great with printing and she printed the cards out so they were the size of playing cards with our program design on the back of them. They were a fun keepsake.

The table seating cards were made from vintage wedding and couples’ photos from the 1930s – 1960s. I sourced a few lots online through ebay and etsy. This was my favorite project! My dad made 2 large frames for me and placed painted cork board inside and then he stretched lace over the cork board. We used long sewing push pins to secure the pictures. The reception was in a beautiful outdoor space and we wanted it to feel romantic and a bit vintage farmhouse with lace runners, big wooden tables, loads of votive candles, and overhead lights.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? It’s easy to get caught up in a million details and usually the details matter most to the bride. If something isn’t perfect, the guests (and probably the groom) will never know it. If you have fun, your guests will too and that’s what they will remember.
