Pumpkin Themed Fall Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Jenny Smith & Co.

We know there are a ton of fall lovers out there, and this wedding is for you. Bride Samantha loves the cozy season too, and had always envisioned pumpkins at her own wedding — and that’s exactly what she got! Jenny Smith & Co. and Mayberry Events put together some beautiful work here, and thanks to their considerable talents we’re sharing this beaut with you all today.

fall wedding ceremony setup - photo by Jenny Smith and Co http://ruffledblog.com/pumpkin-themed-fall-wedding

From the bride, Samantha: We met at a coffee shop bible study through a friend. After our first meeting, David started spending time with the homeless with me every Friday at a park in Costa Mesa. In the midst of loving the forgotten and downtrodden our love began. Two years later (with one year being long distance) David proposed! I love fall and I have always envisioned pumpkins at my wedding! I wanted my wedding to be fall themed – fairy tale pumpkins, fall colors, pumpkin desserts, pumpkin patch, etc. Paramount Ranch was the perfect venue for us. We wanted to feel secluded and surrounded by nature. The venue had a rustic feel and included an old town used in film productions. It was so unique and had such a romantic feel.

During our ceremony we said our own vows and we took communion together. We wanted to invite people into our relationship and to know our love is founded on Jesus’ love for us. My most vivid memory that day was during our vows. I laughed when I heard his personal vows because they were almost the exact same as mine. It reminded me that we were like minded and had similar desires for our marriage.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice to future brides and grooms is to be emotionally present. Remember that your wedding day isn’t about the decor, DIY, or food. It is about committing your life to the person in front of you. Be present with each other and take in beauty of the love you are celebrating.

Austin Styled Bridal Session

Wedding Design

What’s better than a little bridal inspiration with some bohemian flair? We were beyond thrilled to see this lovely styled shoot land in our inbox, especially given its all-star team of vendors — including Lindsey Stump Photography, Southern Social Events, The Quiet Rabbit, and Stems, just to name a few. This is one tablescape we’ll absolutely love for ages!

From the photographer, Lindsey Stump: Our tablescape design was inspired by the first colorful blooms of spring, that feeling of nostalgia for being barefoot amongst the wildflowers. With a touch of bohemian whimsy, we incorporated lots of colorful statement pieces from Anthropologie and kept the floral centerpiece wild and organic.

The maidenhair ferns planted in concrete pots add the perfect touch of neutral amongst the otherwise playful setup. Our chandelier installation mixes a monochromatic range of patterns and solids to tie in that carefree, color-centric vibe. Overall, the design focused less on tradition, playing more on the idea of a well-traveled woman with a love for found objects and color.

Glen Venue Wedding

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Flora + Fauna

Wedding portraits in an abandoned greenhouse – be still, my beating heart. After their portraits, Becky and Jose made their way to their ceremony site under the trees, where they exchanged vows before dancing the night away with friends and family. Flora + Fauna was on hand to document every moment, each detail prettier than the next!

glen venue wedding - photo by Flora and Fauna http://ruffledblog.com/abandoned-greenhouse-wedding

From the bride, Becky: Our vision was for our wedding to be a reflection of who we are. We wanted our wedding to be a comfortable and welcoming experience for all our guest. We envisioned a romantic wedding outside in the fresh air on a beautiful piece of property surrounded by our family and close friends. We were married on the property of The Glen Venue at the Linwood House. It was a beautiful house that dates back to the late 1800s, sitting on a huge piece of property with blooming camellias and an orange grove full of fruit. We were married under a row of gorgeous magnolia trees with white fabric swaying in the trees, while standing on a hand woven rug that Jose’s parents had purchased many years ago while in Turkey. We asked one of our closest friends to officiate our nuptials which made the ceremony feel very intimate and special for us.

The flowers were one of the most important décor elements for me. I wanted free flowing and natural arrangements with dark burgundy, purples of all shades with accents of white and pink. The day before the wedding my dear friend and I went to a local farm (Down to Earth) to pick up the Zinnias that were used. The loropetalum came from my yard and the rest were from a wholesale florist in town. I splurged on flowers like garden and spray roses and saved money by using the loropetalum and other greenery like Silver Dollar Eucalyptus and Plumosa Fern.

We wanted to be involved in every little detail, hand crafted by us, our family and our friends. Everything at our wedding was DIY which made it so special and heartfelt. The six months leading to the wedding I hunted for containers for the flower arrangements and flatware to be used for our guest. The place settings at our sweetheart table were all things I had collected over the years. I refinished furniture that was used as our cake table and beverage bar. Jose and his brother built the bar out of pallets and reclaimed wood. Jose and I designed our invitations and paper goods. My mom crocheted all the hanging jars throughout the venue and made the shawl I wore. My close friends played a huge role in the setup of the day and making sure everything was beautiful. From the flowers to the day of coordinating, without them our wedding would not have been what we had envisioned. Our cakes and catering were even done by our friend’s parents. It was definitely a family affair! I worked closely with friends and family setting up the venue to the very moment I had to stop and get ready for the big day. I turned over the rest of my décor duties and trusted everything would turn out as beautiful as I imagined which it did. When Jose and I walked out of the house as they pronounced us husband and wife it was so much to take in, we are very grateful to everyone that helped and made our wedding dream come true.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My biggest piece of advice I would give any couple planning their wedding would be to enjoy the process. We were engaged for only 6 short months but those months leading to our big day were magical and so much fun. Our family and friends put together some really fun gatherings for us. There was so much excitement it the air and although there were some big decision still to be made, we tried our best to take full advantage of it. So as hard as it may be at times try to go with the flow and soak in every little moment.

French Country Inspired Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Hom Photography

If it’s possible to tire of European countryside-inspired weddings, I must have totally missed that memo. This beaut from Hom Photography is heavy on the French rustic influence, an aesthetic borne from the bride’s love of French language and culture. (In the words of the photographer: “The first time Hanna told Scott she loved him, she was too scared to say it in English so she told him in French” — how adorable is that?) Mountain Laurel Florist brought the wedding full circle with floral arrangements dripping with romance.

French Country Inspired Wedding via ruffledblog.com

From the bride, Hanna: We wanted our wedding to to show the more natural and rustic side of French life. We wanted the wedding to feel very soft and simple, elegant, sweet, warm, loving. Our theme was French country. I lived in France for high school, and since then the culture has always been a huge part of my life. The color scheme was coral, cerulean blue, and white.

We made lots of the wedding accessories ourselves. The bride made all the bridesmaids belts, the ring bearer boxes, the chalk board signs, the wedding signs. The grooms mothers made the picture wall and the programs. The bride’s father made the cocktail hour bar and a personal wine and label for the wedding. The bride’s aunts did all the flowers and made the silverware holdings.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? I would say to not get caught up in the planning. Focus on your marriage and the life you will have together. Planning is fun, but don’t let it take over your day to day life. Take your time in planning if you are doing it mostly alone, but if you have a planner along your side they are SO HELPFUL and way worth the cost. Also, out of all your vendors, make sure you have a good DJ. Make sure that he has all the correct music you asked him to play, and even listen to it first to make sure it’s the correct version. It is smart to put out the pronunciation of bridal parties names for their entry so the DJ isn’t confused at the last second.

From the photographer, Lauren of Hom Photography: Hanna and Scott were married at the beautiful Hurst Ranch in Jamestown, CA. Loving the French language and culture, the two decided a French country theme would be the perfect aesthetic for their wedding. This manifested in gorgeous details such as floral arrangements by Mountain Laurel Florist that looked as if the flowers were freshly cut from the countryside, hay sofas, potted flowers in kraft paper bags with scalloped edges, and signage calligraphed in French. Their rustic reception tables were named for various wine regions in France and adorn with olive branches from the olive grove on site, natural burlap, large hurricane candles, and tea lights.

Hurst Ranch in Jamestown proved to be a characteristic and picturesque venue for Hanna and Scott. The owners’ warm hospitality allowed Hanna and the bridesmaids to get ready in their home, while Scott and the groomsmen got ready in the owners’ art studio. Also unique to the venue is a small train, which offered train rides to the guests after the ceremony. Hanna was nothing short of a selfless bride. She showered her bridesmaids with gifts, including homemade wine made specifically for the celebration of their wedding, handmade flower belts unique to each bridesmaid’s personality, and lavender sachets. Throughout the day she was always considering others before herself. Her and Scott’s gifts to each other surprisingly were very similar. Scott gave her a journal full of entries and prayers he kept throughout their relationship. Hanna made a little booklet summarizing their love for one another. Both drew the other to tears.

Coral Santa Fe Springs Wedding

Rustic Weddings

As much as I love seeing brides tackle DIY projects and handmade details (and I really, really do), I get an extra kick out of seeing grooms jump on the DIY train as well. Rhiannon’s now-hubby Chris designed the wedding invitations, made the centerpieces our of reclaimed pallets, and helped out with the window panel seating chart! Thanks to Anna Delores Photography for sharing this sweet wedding with us.

coral santa fe springs wedding // via ruffledblog.com

From the bride, Rhiannon: We wanted it to be epic, classy, romantic, and comfortable. We chose to go with neutral colors (tan, beige, cream, grey) with coral accents. We wanted our wedding to be unique and really represent us, so we chose to do pretty much everything DIY, not to mention I was lucky enough to marry an incredibly creative and crafty groom. He made our centerpieces out of reclaimed wood pallets which we stained (we loved the used, vintage look of the wood) and used large wine bottles with the necks cut off to create a vase for the flowers. For the seating chart we picked up a couple of beat up old windows at a flea market. It took a LOT of TLC to get them looking good (we had to replace a couple of the panes which we were able to get custom cut at Michaels) but they turned out looking great and we got such a great deal. Chris designed our entire invitation on the computer and one of the groomsmen designed our programs. It was definitely time-consuming but well worth it knowing they were totally unique and exactly what we wanted.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Hire a videographer! Hiring the best photographer we could find was an absolute must for us, but we went back and forth on hiring a videographer as we inched closer and closer to our budget. In the end we decided to go for it, and we both couldn’t be more thankful! There were so many amazing moments caught on video that we would have never seen without it. We’ve watched ours a countless amount of times and wouldn’t trade it for the world. The day goes by SO fast and watching our wedding video makes me feel like I get to re-live it. Also, if it’s possible, go on a honeymoon right after the wedding. After all the chaos and stress leading up to the wedding, it was the best feeling ever to get away from everything and just get to enjoy each other and soak in the fact that we’re married. We got to relax and talk about the wedding and really just enjoy being newlyweds.

It would be an injustice to let autumn come and go without sharing these gorgeous bridal session images, as far as I’m concerned. Blacksmith Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Today’s styled wedding shoot just goes to show you can find inspiration in unlimited places. Tyler of Tyler Rye Photography formed this shoot after seeing an anvil in a farmer’s work shed. He brought Swoon Vintage Rental Co. and Floral Design by Erin on board to help complete his vision, and the rest is photo shoot history!

blacksmith inspired wedding ideas // via ruffledblog.com

From the photographer, Tyler Rye: Forged was inspired by a simple Anvil. I was working at a farmer’s house and happened to look over and see his Anvil setting on a stand near his shed. It clicked in my mind how cool it would be to do a Black Smith themed wedding shoot. I started that day to gather antique smithing tools – everything from hammers to smelting tools. The couple that modeled are friends of my wife. They have been married for two years and this was a great way for them to reconnect as a couple. The location has been a dream spot for me ever since my wife and I had our Engagement pictures taken there 3 years ago! I had a lot of help getting this shoot ready and I couldn’t have done it without the help of my wife. Not only did she do the hair for the model, but she arranged both the tables and made them look amazing.

Apple Orchard Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Nessa K Photography

I have fond memories of going apple picking with my family when I was younger, so you could say this styled shoot from Sarah Park and Nessa K Photography hits home for me. The theme was brilliantly executed, right down to the apple tucked into the bouquet by Petal and Print. If you weren’t in the spirit of autumn yet, you’ll definitely be ready now!

apple orchard wedding inspiration // via ruffledblog.com

From the event stylist, Sarah of Sarah Park Events: For this shoot we were inspired by one of the most popular activities Fall has to offer, “Apple Picking.” We wanted to incorporate apples into the shoot as much as we could, so we found the most beautiful backdrop at Baugher’s Orchard and made magic happen. From the centerpiece to the escort card station, apples were everywhere! My favorite part of the shoot has to be the “Bobbing Station,” we took a simple idea and made it into a unique escort card station that guests will remember for years! I could have not asked for a better team to work with on this fall inspired shoot and we hope we have inspired many Fall brides.

Frank Lloyd Wright Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Coming from a family of architects, it’s safe to say that I have a soft spot for Frank Lloyd Wright’s creations. So when I saw that Chelsea LaVere, Isha Foss Events, and Katy Blevins got together to design this styled shoot around Wright’s Cooke House in Virginia Beach, I got pretty darn excited. Most remarkable is how beautifully an architectural design can inspire genius wedding ideas:

c-Frank-Lloyd-Wright-Inspired-Wedding-027

From the photographer and concept designer, Chelsea LaVere: Union is a little bit 1960’s influence meets modern day. Completely inspired by The Cooke House, all of these incredible vendors used Frank Lloyd Wright’s lines, shapes, and forms in their respective artistry. It truly is one of a kind.

We affectionately called this shoot “Union” as it commemorates the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright and his touch of historical significance locally here in Virginia Beach. Wright strongly believed that the natural world and architecture should harmonize, and as such Virginia Beach’s own Cooke House exemplifies that philosophy. Wright designed this particular house to be built into the natural dunes which faces Crystal Lake, opposite of the Atlantic Ocean. His iconic hemicycle in the structure stays true to everything Wright stood for.

We loved having our bride and groom (a real married couple) as well as our Mother of the Bride and Junior Bridesmaid since they are rarely seen in stylized shoots but play such a special role in this shoot! With only 3 Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the whole state of Virginia, we are incredibly fortunate to have one in Virginia Beach. It is privately owned by Dan and Jane Duhl who graciously opened up their home to us for this shoot as they hope to share their historical property for small weddings.

Woodsy Colorado Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

We Are the Parsons

As soon as we heard that bride Becca was inspired to have her wedding dress designed after the very gown showcased in this shoot from Alea Lovely, we knew we had to share it with you all! With her own brother making up one half of the talented photography duo We Are the Parsons, it was a no-brainer who would capture her wedding day to groom Michael. Read on for some inspiring words and dazzling images:

outdoor wedding photos

From the bride, Becca: Because we live in Colorado and had a winter wedding, we wanted to include a lot of elements from nature, but to bring those elements indoors due to the unpredictable weather. Both of us wanted the atmosphere to be as comfortable and down-to-earth as possible, while still being a most special and unique day in our lives.

From day one, we insisted that our wedding day be very ‘us’. As a result, there were a lot of wedding traditions that we chose to forgo, simply because we didn’t want to include things that weren’t of genuine personal meaning to us; however, our goal was still to maintain a reverent, profound, and authentic event as we made this huge commitment to one another.

I’d describe our wedding as whimsical, rustic, warm, natural, collaborative, and full of juxtapositions! (i.e. burlap meets lace, tulle ball-gown meets hiking trails/sticks/bushes/snowy fields, tulle ball-gown meets our Lab mix Gabe, nature meets indoor venue, etc.) Our color palette was full of earth tones, which included greens, browns, champagne, gold, and dusty pink. I liked the way things were soft and blended as opposed to appearing stark or frigid.

Our budget was modest and our engagement was only four months long, so just about everything decorative was a DIY project. This includes the bouquets, which were assembled by bridesmaids and the boutonnieres that were made by Michaels mom and consisted of burlap, buttons, and feathers, all bought at a craft store. The ceremony backdrop frame was constructed from PVC pipe in my old living room with the ribbon and fabric strips each having casings sewn in by my mom and sister. I collected burlap, pinecones, log pieces, sticks, candles, and greenery over the course of our engagement for the table decorations, and the amazingly awesome programs were designed by my best friend and printed at home. We chose to add supplemental lighting for the ceremony from candles and paper lanterns and Christmas lights. All of these projects were spearheaded by us and our family and friends (who all are saints, by the way.) Some of the projects, particularly the gold-dipped, individually-tied feathers, were rather comically tedious to work on; but, in the end, everything meant a lot more to us because of how hard we worked to pull it all off! Our fingerprints were all over our wedding. Plus, it saved us a bunch of money in the long run.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? First and foremost, remember that the ultimate outcome of planning a wedding is that you get to marry your best friend and spend the rest of your life with that person, regardless of how the details of your wedding play out! But, in the meantime, have fun with each step of the way. Be respectful with ideas and suggestions that come from other people, but make the decisions that will ultimately mean the most to you. Try to keep a good sense of humor about things. Plans can and will go ‘wrong’, but most guests will never even know. And, when people offer to help you with projects, accept their help!

Pastoral Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Today’s styled shoot, originally designed for Destination Weddings and Honeymoons Magazine, brings us back to pastoral simplicity and beauty. Pulling inspiration from Andrew Wyeth paintings, Kristy Rice of Momental Designs teamed up with Sullivan Owen and With Love and Embers to bring us this elegant shoot with the most beautiful runner we’ve seen in ages!

watercolor wedding ideas

From the stylist, Kristy of Momental Designs: Inspired by the primitive elegance that is at the heart of every Andrew Wyeth painting, this collaboration of Pennsylvania creatives speaks of unfussy detail and inspired artistry. A Destination Wedding in Pastoral Pennsylvania is all about creating rustic serenity and a distinctive “home away from home” aesthetic. Local flavors and simple styling easily executed from afar along with small, but meaningful stationery details set a table perfectly suited for a lingering meal with loved ones.

We infused a wow statement of regional imagery into the table with a hand painted table runner. Floral details on the table were minimal as the painterly textures and variety of hues in the runner were nearly all the centerpiece we needed. From Sullivan Owen on flowers: “I focused on using rustic, textural blooms in muted sophisticated shades to mimic the subdued palette of the landscape instead of the traditional spring pastels. Olive branch, berried ivy, jasmine vine accented rich plum ranunculus, scabiosa, unusual green-eyed roses and ornamental artichokes.”

Pennsylvania is known for its iconic blue stone and as such it can be found easily and affordably. Slabs set adjacent to plates elevate vintage flatware, hand illustrated menu and favor as a focal point at each place setting. Maggie of Maggpie Vintage Rentals sourced the gorgeous iron chairs and hand sewed tea stained cushions for each. The Moravian Tile Works is steeped in Pennsylvania tradition and are still created from original molds that are over a century old. We loved adding the small Flowerlettes to each place setting for a touch of restrained whimsy.

Our menu was filled with classic Pennsylvania Dutch delicacies from pickled eggs to roasted game meats. Dessert was full of simple flavors with bountiful fruit pies and lace wrapped bottles of locally brewed root beer. Three distinctive letterpress suites were designed for this project all inspired by the delicate and intricate nature of Victorian Embroidery Alphabets. Lettering details were hand drawn for each stationery element and then mingled with gracefully illustrated swirls and vines. A mix of rustic textured stocks, touches of bold hues and hand painted brushstrokes on each created a curious mix of finishes. The idea that guests were being welcomed to a “home away from home” was translated into the casual itinerary card asking guests to “spend a few days together.” Menus featured a dry-brush painting technique meant to mimic the look of weathered woods.

We served up dessert with a sweet and heartfelt note perched atop each plate with a short message of thanks; an incredibly personal touch for all those traveling the distance to celebrate. In muted slate blue this gown was a wow moment at every turn. Our model spent a good deal of time in the woods where the morning light filtered magically through the trees. This modern ballgown seemed right at home amidst the rustic textures surrounding.

Peach Bridal Luncheon Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Stacey Hedman

Today’s styled shoot shoot, conceptualized and created for Bliss Celebrations Guide and photographed brilliantly by Stacey Hedman, is a vision of Provençal perfection. Bliss Celebrations had a vision of putting together a “bon voyage luncheon” for a young traveler heading off to the French countryside — but we have to say that these ideas would translate just as beautifully into a luncheon for bridesmaids or a bridal shower!

From the photographer, Stacey Hedman: I can’t help mention the atmosphere here on Cape Cod, and specifically this farm… because lavender farms and vineyards aren’t exactly common to have in this area. We’re a beautiful place, but sandy and salty. More pale tones and muted, compared to the vibrant, saturated colors of the south or the west coast (the florist for this did an awesome job adding color!). This particular farm is as tiny as the little building you see in the photos. Just a one-room shop with lavender goods, and trinkets, bird-houses and potted plants outside. An adorable older couple lives on the property with their three dogs, and their daughter still helps out each summer.

Open-air dining gives a romantic European feeling to any party and is not just reserved for picnics – bring your beautiful linens, china and stemware outside and pair them with pretty garden chairs for a formal fete minus the fuss. The lemonade cocktails include a lavender sugar rim for added sensory experience. Tiny lavender soaps and lavender sachets adorned with pretty vintage cameos made thoughtful and scent-filled gifts for guests to take home and enjoy. Easily create a patisserie-style dessert table by displaying a variety of tempting French-inspired goodies with stacks of vintage china cups and plates. Add wicker hamper to hold lacy napkins and silverware, and of course some pretty fresh flowers.

Agoura Hills Love Shoot

Engagement Sessions

Photos by:

Caroline Tran

It isn’t often that we share love shoots on Ruffled, but when we saw these images always-incredible Caroline Tran, we knew you’d love them just as much as we do! Susan and Jade set out for this amazing shoot right at sunset, which allowed for some jaw-dropping natural light shots. Susan embraced her inner girly-girl style with Prada flats, a J. Crew frock, and an Alice + Olivia sundress we’re now lusting after!

From the couple, Jade and Susan: We are so excited to share our engagement session photos with you and the world! We were so lucky to find an amazing serene photospot in Agoura Hills, CA and were able to smile for the camera just as the sun set over the horizon. These pictures were able to capture every detail of our personalities – Jade, a self-proclaimed nerdy engineer and Susan, a true dreamer and girly girl. We were even able to get some camera time for Little Bear, the first teddy bear we ever shared over 9 years ago.

Our luggage and our hands were always filled with elements that make up the foundation of our love such as our childhood love letters, photobooth pictures, and paper elements that described lyrics from our favorite love songs, inside jokes, and nicknames. Being high school sweethearts, we share a profound history together building our friendship, our love, and our home together. The luggage represents the many travels, journeys, and adventures we’ve been through together, so it seemed only natural to capture these images under the theme, “Home is where you are.”

Modern Cinderella Love Shoot

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Jennifer Fujikawa

It shouldn’t come as a surprise that we ladies at Ruffled enjoy a good themed shoot — and what better place to pull inspiration from than a Disney fairytale? Gathering ideas from both the traditional tale and the film “Ever After” (one of my own guilty pleasures), photographer Jennifer Fujikawa and The Bride Concierge crafted a shoot to remember! You’re sure to adore the whimsical cake from I Believe It’s Cake, recreating the styling of Cinderella’s ballgown.

bride and groom

From the stylist, The Bride Concierge: This shoot is based on the Cinderella story. We wanted to style it in a modern way, with rustic fairytale elements, without being over the top Disney. The location was the beautiful Peter Strauss Ranch in Malibu. We felt it reflected the scenery found in the movie “Ever After.”

When Jennifer Edmon of Something Blue set out to create this styled shoot with Majesta Patterson, there were no holds barred. Don’t miss the dreamy accompanying video from Patterson Films.

earthy bohemian wedding ideas

From the stylist, Jennifer of Something Blue: I had such a wonderful time styling this shoot. When Majesta and I committed to doing this project together, we knew a boho shoot in the beautiful Santa Cruz would be the perfect inspiration for us. For every event, I like to stem design from one specific piece of inspiration. In this case, it was the beautiful bottles on the table. My Nonna and Papa actually collected them all off beaches when my dad was a little boy. She has kept them all these years and gave them to me this Thanksgiving. They are all truly vintage and some were made in the early 1900’s. It made me feel so special that she gave them to me, and I am so happy their beauty is being shared! After seeing how the bottles collected the sunlight and turned bright, I was in love!

Feathers and head wreaths are always a good staple for bohemian styled weddings. The place cards are a really simple, pretty, inexpensive way to make a statement on your plates. Print/write the names of your guests, rip into strips and weave in a feather or flower stem, then presto! Sweet name cards! I made all the pillows, definitely a much cheaper way to go than purchasing pillows. Plus, you get to pick your exact color palette. I think they came out pretty cute! I really like the idea of low tables, no chairs but comfy stylish pillows to sit on.

Oh, and we cannot forget the dress! I found that darling vintage grey-blue lace bustier and made the skirt with an ivory dotted lace overlay and linen. The flowers really do take the cake on this one. Whenever I see the opportunity, I use amaranthus (the weepy green flowers). I just love the way they lay in every arrangement. White Camelias, baby’s breath, green germini and branches are what make this pretty bouquet! All this with our very own vintage décor rentals set the stage for this inspiration shoot, and I couldn’t be happier with how everything turned out.

Tropical Holiday Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Jonathan Connolly

As beautiful as snow-topped trees are (and we certainly never tire of looking at them), we know that ‘winter holiday’ doesn’t exactly translate to visions of snowmen and scarves everywhere. Happily, Miranda of Sugar(ed) Event Design and Planning and Jonathan Connolly Photography are here to show us how more tropical climates approach the holiday season!

sparkle wedding decor

From the event stylist, Miranda of Sugar(ed) Event Design and Planning: Living in South Florida, sometimes the “typical” holiday decor feels a little out of place. When it’s 80 degrees outside, pinecones and red berries don’t really work! I was inspired by the concept of a tropical holiday wedding–lush green vegetation, a fabulous outdoor setting, twinkling lights and lots of sparkle. Casa Carby was the perfect setting, a charming guest house in the heart of Miami with a beautiful terrace and unique decor. Taking my cues from the slightly unkempt allure of a sultry tropical garden, the tablescape incorporated lots of wild green foliage in addition to bold flowers and tropical fruits (gilded, to add extra oomph!), gold flatware and patterned china.

Tropical flavors inspired the signature drinks and the coconut-crusted wedding cake. The bridal fashion was chosen as a radiant contrast to the setting. The bride dazzled in two distinct sequined floor-length gowns and glittery emerald jewelry, perfect for catching the twinkling lights. We created a beautifully simple ceremony backdrop by dangling strands of lights from a long tree branch. The lights provided a soft glow, lighting up the faces of the bride and groom and reflecting off the water. A sparkler-topped cake was a fun way to add to the festive atmosphere and gave the night a little extra glow.

Plum and Gold Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

This delectable table captured by Urban Rose Photo and perfectly styled Alisa Lewis Event Design stops me in my tracks. One cannot do justice to such gorgeous inspiration, so we’re trying to not go overboard with images. We were overtaken by the sublime holiday feeling the plum and gold color palette gave off, though it’s a really pretty palette for year round.

We’ve got another beauty of a shoot from Sweet Sunday Events to share with you! This time, Katy and her team of wonder-makers set up a southwestern inspired affair, complete with a simple and chic tent setup for the reception. Pair up these talents with the images of EE Photography and paper goods by The Stationery Bakery, and you’ve got a surefire winner!

southwestern bride and groom

From Sweet Sunday Events: What do flour, mop heads and southwest print have in common? This shoot, that’s what! A custom created southwestern print flour aisle guided the way to a one of a kind lamp shade arch, which was adorned with tassels made of mop head twine. If that wasn’t enough, how about table runners that sat beneath patterned plates with paper goods created by The Stationery Bakery?! Or what about the a-framed tent set aside for a little bit of lounging?! Yeah, that all sounds like it would go together, right?!

For the venue, I chose Holland Ranch in San Luis Obispo, CA. I didn’t want there to be any architecture or man made structures in the photos, and Holland Ranch is set against one of my favorite landscapes in the county. I made an exception for the boat… because it was just too darn awesome. In the end, every single detail was perfect. There was absolutely nothing forced or fake about anything — everything felt so real and organic. Scott and Ashley made for the perfect models, as well. They only recently got married last August, so they’ve definitely still got the wedding love-bug :)

Pixelated Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

We were so delighted to see this little beauty of a shoot designed by Sweet Sunday Events and captured by Caroline Joy Photography land in our inbox! How fantastic is the giant impact of their large-scale paper backdrop? You can see how it immediately transforms the space, and better yet — Katy will be back shortly to help you make your very own pixelated backdrop!

paper backdrop ideas

From Katy of Sweet Sunday Events: We are totally smitten with simple and classic design with pops of the unexpected. And what’s more unexpected than a pixelated backdrop made of paper setting the scene for one amazing wedding? The table setting is effortless, organic and intimate without sacrificing elegance or quality. Paper goods from The Stationery Bakery adorned the textured plates as a lush arrangement poured over the table. Continuing the paper cutout theme, a hand cut paper installation hanged behind an undemanding cake provided by Paige’s Bakehouse. The talented Caroline Joy captured the day absolutely perfectly.

New York Bridal Shower

Wedding Design

Photos by:

It’s rare that we’re able to share real bridal showers here at Ruffled, but it’s just as rare that we’re able to peek into showers as pretty as this one! When photographer Alyse French learned her sister Lorae was newly engaged, she knew she wanted to put together something truly special to celebrate. I’m loving the fabric-wrapped eucalyptus soap favors and all of the gorgeous floral arrangements from Hannah Elissa Floral Design & Event Styling!

outdoor bridal shower ideas

From the photographer, Alyse: As a photographer, I don’t often find myself on the planning end of things. But when I learned that my sister Lorae was engaged to the man of her dreams, I jumped right in! I worked closely with Hannah Elissa Floral Design & Event Styling to dream up the vision for this shower. We wanted long tables, florals in creams and pastels, gorgeous linens, gold Chiavari chairs, a photobooth, a guest sign-in, and a special seat for Lorae to open all of her gifts.

Our sign-in table showcased a gold saffian wedding guest book via Paper Source, antique candlesticks and the prettiest floral arrangement. We displayed an invitation by Jessie Burns of BURNSBRITE | Design & Letterpress, who also designed ALL of our party signage. And we can’t forget our handmade eucalyptus soap favors!

The shower was held on our side lawn, beside a DIY photobooth crafted from a curtain rod and streamers. We used a side-table to display flowers, candles, a fun sign, and props. For our gift table, we used an old dresser. Jessie designed another sign per gift placement. And Hannah created the most beautiful ribbon swag for a gift-opening chair. The main party area showcased all sorts of prettiness, with gold Chiavari chairs, napkins, silverware, and glasses rented from Cooperstown Event Rentals. I also purchased some striped fabric from Carousel Designs which was fashioned into table runners!

There was no end to the helpfulness of Hannah Elissa Floral Design. She beautifully arranged roses, hydrangea, dusty miller, celosia, gomphrena, sweet pea and Queen Anne’s lace (Lorae’s favorite) in nine trifle bowls! Hannah also contributed gold votives. The remaining pieces contributed by Jessie of BURNSBRITE included “He Says/She Says” game cards (folded inside our napkins), individual name cards, and labels for our food and dessert tables.

Colorado Mountainside Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Poring through these pictures was like stepping into every little girl’s dream — bridesmaids in shades of pink, breathtaking mountain scenery, and horses roaming freely. Add in a stunning couple shot by Rachael Grace Photography and you have Joseph and Stacey’s Colorado wedding. Keep an eye out for some incredible bouquets and a lace wedding cake!

colorado mountainside vintage wedding from rachael grace photography

From the bride, Stacey: Our theme was definitely mountain wedding. We had a outdoor/indoor cozy lodge wedding. It was vintage, romantic, casual, and intimate. There were tons of DIY projects involved. My self and the groom spent countless hours in antique stores picking out the books for the centerpieces, the vintage suit cases, and some of the old jars. We made all of the glass candles for the centerpieces that we wrapped some in lace and some in book pages. Each book page was something that was meaningful to us. Some had definitions of love, love poems and maps of places we have lived or traveled to, and some had our invitations wrapped around them. The brooches on the bouquets were all from my grandmother and great-grandmother.

The groom stained all of the mason jars that sat on the windowsills blue and tied twine around them. We borrowed the green glass vases from another bride who had used them for her weddings centerpieces. (She cut 150 green glass wine bottles into vases.) We made the mini chalk boards that had menu items on them. We went to our favorite local candy shop to get all of the candy for the dessert table. I made all of the favors from pretty boxes and ribbons that I ordered online and the paper straws were ordered in the same place. One of the bridesmaids, who is a graphic designer, designed and made all of our invitations and response cards. We also bought all of the pillows and blankets that covered the seating during the cocktail hour for a cozy feel.

The unity candle was the same candle that my sister used for her wedding 10 years ago and it is pink in honor of our mother who passed away from breast cancer. We also made welcome baskets for all of our guests, most of them were from out of town. They included all local Colorado themed items and little gift bags for any of the children that were at the wedding including little games and candies to keep them busy! We also spent a Saturday going out to a farm and picking up pumpkins, mums, and cider and other tasty treats that were used for ceremony decor and welcome baskets.

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Something that I am sure every bride has heard numerous times but keep in mind what you and your soon to be spouse want. If you try to please everyone you will not be able to please yourself. It is your day and should be done your way. Ask for help if you need it. I had amazing support from all of my friends and family who went above and beyond and they really made everything that much more special for us. Don’t be afraid to ask for help! They will be happy to help and you will be less overwhelmed.

From the photographer, Alea: We shot on Longview Mansion’s grounds that had a lot of rustic structures we could work with along with the great overgrown grass. With the vision I had to shoot it I just couldn’t find a dress that matched the feeling of what we were going for so I made the dress to capture the very whimsical direction we were headed for and used color in the dress inspired by the latest fashion trend of using color in bridal. The florist used her great-grandmother’s amazing pink antique depression glass as centerpieces and accents to the flowers and cake. The cake decorator used a brush-like texture on the buttercream to give it a nest-like look. The furniture rentals used were great rustic pieces like old wooden crates, old dress trunks, rusted keys and this great wide bottom over-sized chair that looks like it came straight from the set of Alice and Wonderland. The pergola was a great accent location in front of the water for something a little different.

Sweet Minnesota Fusion Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

This wedding is the perfect cultural fusion between two people desperately in love. Saphiya and her groom David planned their wedding in just three months, but you’d never guess it. The details are all so perfect and personal to their families, we get the sweetest little butterflies looking through their photos from the wonderful Gene of Geneoh Photography. Head on over to the gallery for more images!

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

From the bride, Saphiya: We were married in David’s hometown at a 19th century lodge, which combines Old World European elegance with Minnesota charm. Once we discovered and fell in love with this gorgeous venue, we built the wedding around the place. The Outing Lodge is located within 300 acres of the beautiful and heavily wooded Pine Point park. So, our wedding was rustic, with a vintage touch to it. Of course, my dress added a fair amount of tradition to the mix too. We had a very short engagement – about three months – and a very small wedding, with about 25 people. It is fairly common in Pakistan – where I am from – to have a small ceremony first and a bigger reception a year or two later. That is what intend to do as some of our very dear family members and friends were not able to be at this wedding. Having such a small wedding made it very intimate and personal. It all just came together. Honestly, once I had discovered Ruffled and a couple of other wedding blogs and seen all the gorgeous weddings, I had a hard time deciding exactly what I wanted — luckily, my mother-in-law, who was my go-to person for all my wedding ideas and needs, helped me bring various little things together (the menu, the flowers, the decorations etc.) and helped David and I create the kind of wedding we really wanted. It wasn’t easy – it took countless hours of talking over dinners, lunches, coffees and trips to vendors – but it was a lot of fun.

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

I would describe our wedding as rustic, vintage and a little mix of cultures. We personalized almost everything and wrote our own vows. David surprised me by reciting the second half of his vows in Urdu – my first language – I was almost in tears! We chose our favourite poems by e.e. cummings and Neil Gaiman as readings for our ceremony. We actually never officially decided on a theme, or even a color scheme but they definitely emerged as things came together. My dress was pink and lilac, however, since it didn’t arrive from Pakistan until two weeks before the wedding, we held off on the colors of the flowers. Our wedding invitations set, that we downloaded online for free from e.m. papers, used tandem bikes, birds, and grains of wheat on the various stationery we used for our wedding. They seemed to fit our personal style and from there, a nature theme emerged.

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

Instead of a traditional cake stand, we used a wooden cookie board. We wanted to incorporate family photos into the mix to honor our families – especially since only my mother could make it to the wedding. David came up with the brilliant idea of using bird houses and tying strings between them to hang the pictures on by using clothespins. We had some of our favourite books stacked under the bird houses and around the table, including books we had read together and a set of books David had inherited from his grandfather. Our friends, some of whom arrived the afternoon of the wedding, helped with setting everything up. My mother-in-law and I found our bird nests place card holders at pottery barn – on clearance! They definitely added a wonderful touch to the dinner table and were a cute little souvenir for our guests to take home.

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

We had personalized labels for our wine bottles and the spice jars that held my wedding favors: a popular spice mix, called Chaat Masala, from Pakistan. I printed recipe cards with a vegan recipe of my favourite street food from Pakistan which used the spice and set them next to the favors. David did our guest book and instead of going the traditional route, used vintage map post cards that our guests filled out. One of my favourite things about our wedding actually happened without me knowing it – it was gray and rainy on the day of, so David’s mother and aunt got several colorful umbrellas for our ceremony, including a hot pink one for me. It added so much color to our ceremony and I remember thinking everything looked so beautiful as I walked down the aisle.

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

Any advice for brides planning their weddings now? Enjoy it — it will be stressful and overwhelming at times but don’t let that get to you. Two nights before our wedding, David and I sat at our neighborhood Fedex store until 2:30 am, creating and printing the menus, place cards and programs. We were exhausted but it’s a very special memory for me because it paid off and we laughed through it. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Believe me, once it’s over, you will be surprised at how much of it wasn’t that important. We spent a lot of time thinking about the ceremony music, stressing out about the sound system. It started raining on the day of and we had the option of either having a music-less ceremony or an indoor one. We choose outdoors and it was absolutely perfect. I don’t think anyone even missed the music.

sweet multicultural vintage wedding

Also, hire a good photographer that shares your style and vision. We were blessed with Gene of Geneoh photography. Once we booked him, I had a constant sense of peace knowing that he was going to capture the true essence of our big day – and he did. Looking through our wedding photos, we felt that we were reliving the whole day. There were so many little things that I didn’t even remember that he captured and I am ever so grateful for that.

Wedding Songs:
Our first dance was to ‘You Swept Me Away’ by the Avett brothers. Right after that, the groom and his friends surrounded a very confused me on the dance floor and suddenly started dancing to a famous Punjabi song that my best friend had told David about. I had no idea that was coming – neither did my mother – but she joined us on the dance floor and that was probably one of the funnest parts about the wedding.
