Elegant Blush Pink Canadian Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Some days, you just need a big heaping of the sweetest colors to stare in awe at, and we think that blush pink is one of those colors. It’s a fine hue that always brings out the girly side in us and we could stare at anything blush pink for hours on end. Luckily for us, when this beautiful Jenn Kavanagh Photography wedding fell into our laps, we had plenty of pretty to look at. This lovely Canadian fête is all about elegance and Sue Gallo Designs worked her magic all over Katelyn and Philip’s big day. We can’t decide what we love more overall: the unparalleled wedding style or the bride’s dress that fit her to a T!

From the photographer, Jenn Kavanagh Photography: Katelyn and Philip’s Hamilton wedding was a pleasure to witness. Everyone agreed in their speeches that their love is so pure, so true and meant to be, that you just can’t help but smile and know that on May 21st, they made the best choice ever!

Even though Katelyn initially spent their first date thinking Phil’s name was actually Stan, they got over the misunderstanding, laughed it off, and have been side by side ever since. Their love bloomed ‘across the pond’ and they have since made the move back to Canada, where Philip can now enjoy all of the Tim Horton’s (his latest obsession) we have to offer.

Joanne and Cody, a real-life engaged couple, were the perfect duo to model for this sweet workshop with Rhythm Photography, Phoebe Lo Events, and BLUUM BLVD. In it, the couple worked on love notes and prepared for an exquisite feast with scrumptious desserts, including candy apples, cakes, and fig tartlets.

From the designer, Phoebe Lo Events: We celebrated Joanne and Cody’s engagement at the historic Estates of Sunnybrook. Posed as an intimate craft workshop, the couple enjoyed an afternoon delight of sweet treats, quality time exploring the estate, and experienced a beautiful craft session full of calligraphy and artisan stationery design.

A Brit & A Blonde

We love a couple that just has fun on their wedding day, and judging by these images from A Brit & A Blonde, tons of fun was had on Adrienne and Sean’s big day. Surrounded by gorgeous floral arrangements by Botany Floral Studio and sweet handcrafted details like the custom blueberry favors, this wedding is bound to inspire!

stylish wedding in Toronto - photo by A Brit and A Blonde http://ruffledblog.com/stylish-wedding-in-toronto

From the bride, Adrienne: Because we got married in October (in Canada), we knew it would be cold, but hopefully sunny. I wanted to incorporate clean, crisp elegance with earthy, fall elements. The colors were reflective of a fall evening with a bit of black and white glamour, lots of lush greenery, rustic twigs, shimmering metallics and warm blush and coral tones.

Flower recipe: I wanted lots of cascading greenery and natural, imperfect arrangements. They contained black and white anemones, peonies, English roses, dahlias, and rununculus.

There were some cardboard letters with our initials and the word LOVE strung on the wall that my mom and sister and I made into ‘living gardens’ by filling them with flowers and greenery. Sean (groom’s) family is from Eastern Canada where blueberries grow wild. They picked and made jam for us for our favors.

Wedding Music:
Processional: “A Life That is Good,” Lennon & Maisy
Bride’s Processional: “I Choose You,” Sara Bareilles
Recessional: “Stuck on You,” Elvis Presley
First Dance: “Colors,” Amos Lee

From the photographer, A Brit & A Blonde: Adrienne is one of the coolest brides ever. With her amazing short pixie cut that she rocked with such a rock n’ roll chic vibe. Her gorgeous Vera Wang dress was paired with a leather jacket for some photos when it got a lil cold out. Adrienne and Sean said their I do’s in October – right when all the fall leaves were changing colour. Which made for some really gorgeous colours in the backdrop. They chose the Evergreen Brickworks in downtown Toronto for their I do’s. Adrienne is from the west coast and Sean is from the east coast of Canada. Sean’s sister actually made the arbour where they said their I do’s. Using wood and rope to symbolize the sailors of the east and the cattlemen of the west. It was a really perfect touch which meant so much to the couple. The ceremony took place outdoors – we adore the florals on the chairs they looked incredible. Adrienne DIY’d the floral letters with their initials as well as the word LOVE. They offered hand tied jam jars from Newfoundland where Sean is from – as wedding favours for their guests. There was no sit down meal – it was food stations and delicious spreads of cheese and charcuterie that guests could indulge in. The reception was decorated with rustic and glam elements. The florals were beyond perfection.

Romantic Elegance at Spadina Museum

Wedding Design

I love seeing wedding shoots inspired by classic artists, and this one from the incredible team of Purple Tree Photography, Affairy Events, and Caprice Design & Decor is no exception. Here, the team was inspired by a mixture of Gustav Klimt’s art and romantic perfume ads, which came together beautifully for a romantic feel with a bit of eclecticism mixed in for good measure.

From the event designer, Ksenia of Affairy Events: We produced this styled shoot with a great team of vendors in Toronto in the summer. We were inspired by perfume ads, different scents and personalities of women and Gustav Klimt. So you will see there are different shades of pink, burgundy and a bit of blue and gold that were used in the shoot.

Woodland Christmas Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Olive Photography

Today’s wedding from Olive Photography, Caprice Design and Decor, and Behind the I Do is just the cutest, no doubt about it. Isabella and Lukas married with a “woodland glam” theme, and they found the ideal venue to showcase their vision and fuse together their love of the woods and art. The end result is a wedding that’s a dream for all you fall and winter wedding couples!

woodland Christmas wedding - photo by Olive Photography http://ruffledblog.com/woodland-christmas-wedding

From the bride, Isabella: Lukas laughs when I talk about the theme… “woodland glam” (almost as hard as he laughed when I told him that our Christmas decor would be “woodland Christmas”). We wanted to showcase our love of the outdoors and of art. We had visited the McMichael together many times in elementary and high school, we thought it would only be right to go back there! We hoped that all the touches and details would be meaningful to us as a couple, while also honouring our families and different cultures. We also wanted to capture moments from our long history together as a couple. Our music came from our high school mixtapes for each other and decor incorporated the many photos from our 9 year relationship.

Lukas’ favorite moment: Watching Isabella walk down the aisle with her dad, looking so beautiful and elegant was simply breathtaking. And in classic Bella style, she tripped on the front of her wedding gown. In a cute little huff of frustration and embarrassment she hiked up her dress and marched down the rest of the aisle. Our guests all let out a laugh but if you looked towards me you would see a smile from ear to ear. It was a perfect display of the clumsy yet perfect bride I would marry minutes later. An unplanned and completely accidental moment reminded me of why I fell in love with her.

Isabella’s favorite moment: There are many moments that I will always remember. But my standout moment happened the second we walked out of the ceremony space. The gravity of the ceremony finally hit me and a kiss from my groom brought me to tears. Lukas will attest to the fact that I emote as much as rocks do. But at this moment my heart was full. We had the back of the gallery space to ourselves as the wedding party and parents made it down. Seeing our most beloved friends and family cheering and crying was so special. We got to hug each person and revel in the moment. Not only did I feel so much love for Lukas, but I felt the love from our family and friends.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Weddings are filled with so much emotion and meaning. Knowing that though, it will never be drama free no matter how hard you try! Despite it all though, those special moments that come from the day make it completely worth it. Keep your sanity by doing everything very early! Complete tasks when you feel it is “too early”… because no matter what it isn’t. Finally we learned the wedding is about more than the couple. Something we commented on repeatedly throughout the day was how lucky we were to have our family and friends in our lives. We hope that your day will be filled with the most love your friends and family could possibly give.

Romantic Intimate Styled Shoot

Wedding Design

I actually love the backdrop in today’s styled shoot so much, I’m seriously tempted to make my own for a holiday party! This lovely inspiration was arranged by a team including Katie Nicolle Photography, Shaw Events, and Bloom and Co., who aimed for a theme of “elegant urban simplicity” and achieved exactly that — and so much more.

romantic intimate styled shoot - photo by Katie Nicolle Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-intimate-styled-shoot

From the photographer, Katie Nicolle Photography: Elegant. urban. simplicity. These three words inspired a talented group of women to come together and style an intimate autumn wedding. Held at the industrial Cotton Factory in Hamilton, Ontario, the venue played a large role in the inspiration behind the shoot. Bloom and Co. created lush arrangements full of greenery, texture and seasonal autumn blooms, that accented the vintage furniture and decor from Warehouse 84.

Adding elegance into the shoot was Simply Beautiful Decor, with their feminine tabletop decor. The Dessert Room created a unique individual guest favour of nearly naked mini cakes to mirror the edgy, yet feminine cake made for the bride and groom. All of these elements were brought together by Shaw Events and captured by Katie Nicolle Photography.

Colorful Bohemian Wedding in Ontario

Bohemian Weddings

We couldn’t think of a better way to kick off Friday than this bohemian wedding from Lushana Bale Photography, Tula Events, and Fleurish Design Studios bursting with color. Fuchsia, purple, yellow, green — you name it, and we bet you can find it here. This wedding is a prime example of what picking the right vendors can do for your wedding day!

colorful bohemian wedding in Ontario - photo by Lushana Bale Photography http://ruffledblog.com/colorful-bohemian-wedding-in-ontario

From the photographer, Lushana Bale: This was definitely one of my personal favorite weddings. First of all, Milena and Rob have impeccable taste, and they chose an amazing team of vendors. The day was organized by Laura of Tula Events, who worked closely with the couple to make sure their vision came to life and the day went smoothly.

Milena and Rob live in Toronto but headed down to Niagara-on-the-Lake for its beautiful scenery and culinary options. Rob actually owns two successful bar/restaurants in downtown Toronto, so it wasn’t surprising that the dinner reception was the best part of their wedding. The Ravine Vineyard, one of Niagara-on-the-Lake’s top restaurants, provided the picturesque setting with harvest tables under rustic canopies overlooking the vineyard. Rob and Milena also treated their guests to craft beer brought in specially for their wedding from Sawdust City Brewing in Muskoka and the Indie Ale House in Toronto. After dinner, guests moved in to the main tent to enjoy the sweets table and dancing to live music by Toronto indie folk rock band Beams. The beautiful florals created by Fleurish Design Studios were the perfect burst of colour throughout the day from the centrepieces to the church to Milena’s flower crown and her wonderful bouquet.

Milena’s look was a mix of classic glamour and bohemian beauty. She wore an elegant lace and silk gown by Sarah Seven, ethically handcrafted shoes by Swedish Hasbeens, simple jewelry and a statement veil for the Catholic ceremony before switching to a flower crown. The soft, romantic hair and makeup by Belle Beauty Boutique finished off the look. Rob was equally stylish in a custom designed blue suit created by Surmesur, suspenders and bow tie by Gotstyle.

English Garden Rehearsal Dinner

Rehearsal Dinners

Photos by:

Injoy Imagery

It’s always a special treat when we get to share a rehearsal dinner, and this one is quite a beaut. The talented team of Injoy Imagery, Willow Rose Events, and Rose Mint Studio collaborated to put together an intimate yet striking event at The Hartman Gallery for Will and Marie, and filled the evening with lovely little details and a cake that will blow. you. away.

English garden rehearsal dinner - photo by Injoy Imagery http://ruffledblog.com/english-garden-rehearsal-dinner

From the event designers, Willow Rose Events: Will and Marie met years ago when Marie travelled to Canada. They met, kept in touch as friends. Years later, Will had by chance visited England and decided they should meet up. And the rest is history… that’s where their love story began. Will went to England to surprise Marie with a proposal. The ring is an antique ring – a combination of both their upbringing. The ring is made out of top part Canadian ring, and bottom English ring.

Their rehearsal was especially intimate and special as that was the first time both families met before their wedding 2 days later. I wanted to style the rehearsal in ways to reflect both their easy going personality, love for vintage and Marie’s country upbringing in England. This inspired me to incorporate lots of soft pastel colours, florals, and ‘wild’ flowers in vintage vases and romantic style with calligraphy menus and place cards.

Also, I wanted to have a moment that Marie will be able to treasure while getting her hair make up done. Since they both had a long distance relationship for so long, I had created a board where Will quoted all the things that he loves Marie, so she can read them while getting ready. It was meant to be a keepsake for her after the rehearsal as well.

Romantic Orchard Row Inspired Wedding

Wedding Design

My love affair with gold is still going strong, so I’m elated to see that today’s team of vendors shares that same love. Jenn Kavanagh Photography, The Rose Mint, Happily Ever After Weddings & Events, and The White Book Wedding Co put together this inspired dreamscape, featuring a beautiful display of roses and wildflowers plus a special guest lamb or two!

From the photographer, Jenn Kavanagh: As the poet Tyler Kent White once wrote, “you are the daydream I am supposed to have for the rest of my life.” Waking up on her wedding day, Laila wanders straight into her daydream, Orchard Row. Captured in softness and airy light by Jenn Kavanagh Photography and dreamt up by The White Book Wedding Co. We are welcomed into the daytime dream world of a soon-to-be bride. In Orchard Row, Laila awakes in her Ines Di Santo gown and custom jewels by Hattitude Jewellery. Her hair is soft and flowing created by Hair by Ladylyn with the perfect hair veil by Blair Nadeau Millinery. Her flawless glowing makeup by Dawna Boot Makeup, compliments the dewy soft light of the morning perfectly.

She floats through the familiar rows of apple blossoms she has known since her childhood spent at Spirit Tree Cider Estates, dressed to perfection. Off in the distance, her favourite orchard tree still preserving the perfect wood swing where she spent so many sunsets. As she wanders through the sweet scents of apples, she comes across a romantic table draped in her favourite blooms in rose gold vessels by The Rose Mint, and the most precious custom miniature sheep place cards. She approaches the table and notes all the intimate details by Happily Ever After Events. The blush goblets, brass candle sticks, gold chargers and gold cutlery are perfectly balanced by the gold table and ivory wrought iron chairs. The table is magical as it shines in the soft sunset light.

As she picks up her custom menu by Ferris Wheel Press, so crisp and detailed, she sees her childhood friend walking towards her down the row. It would only be fitting that in her dreams, her best friend would always be there, sharing her bridal elegance. Together the brides explore the fields, enjoying scrumptious cakes and sweets by Crumb and Berry and sipping on the sweetest blush cider from the Estate. They play on the wooden swing like young girls and spend time cuddling with their baby lamb friends Bow and Peep. Orchard Row has become a romantic, luxe and ethereal stroll through the sweetest of places …if only it were more than a dream.

Pastel Ontario Wedding at Sprucewood Shores

Rustic Weddings

Any day is a good one for a winery wedding, so we’re delighted to share this one from Vicki Bartel Photography and Anything and Everything with you all! Carleigh and Scott’s big day was full of sweet nods to their relationship and a pastel color palette accentuated with plenty of hydrangea, roses, and dusty miller. The couple had three incredible cakes for the guests — which is your favorite?

pastel Ontario wedding at Sprucewood Shores - photo by Vicki Bartel Photography http://ruffledblog.com/pastel-ontario-wedding-at-sprucewood-shores

From the photographer, Vicki Bartel Photography: Carleigh and Scott had a relaxed wedding day at a gorgeous winery. Soft pink, ivory, and chalkboard accents were chosen as decor elements. The outdoor ceremony was set up in a circle so all of the guests could have a front row seat. Carleigh and Scott wanted to represent how their lives had come full circle up until that moment. The dessert table was made up of three wedding cakes, cupcakes, and cookies. The hanging centerpiece over the sweetheart table was chosen to not block the beautiful view of the vineyard in the background. Candlelight mason jars, birch, and greenery made for romantic and soft elements.

Wedding Design

Artiese Studios

If there’s any day that should be full of lots of color and heaps of fun, it should definitely be your bridal shower. For today’s shoot, a team of oh-so-many talented vendors (including Artiese Studios, Love by Lynzie Events + Design, and Ooh La La Designs, with production by The Vow Project) came together to give one lucky winner a day of pampering for herself, her mother, and her 7 bridesmaids. Talk about celebration!

From the event designer and coordinator, Lynzie of Love by Lynzie Events + Design: My name is Lynzie Kent and I am a co-founder of The Vow Project. We are a community of collaborative, creative, wedding and event vendors located in Toronto, Ontario Canada who are working to change the landscape of traditional wedding/event vendor marketing by putting on REAL events that truly celebrate the relationships that fuel weddings and events. Our mantra is to create experiences that couples can win that allow them to share their personal stories, celebrate love, and to experience our services first hand, before booking with any of our extremely talented vendors.

We recently had our first official event, The #BaeBrunch, and it went off without a hitch. We set out to redefine what it means to be a Bridesmaid by putting together the #BaeBrunch. Our lucky winner, Jill Farber was treated to a day of pampering for herself, her mom and her 7 bridesmaids. The entire day was an absolutely colourful and exciting celebration of friendship and a tribute to the most important women in her life. After surprising her with a blindfolded reveal, we began with a complete hair and makeup styling session at The Store on Queen, followed by a celebrity style photo shoot, and finishing with the most delicious brunch ever at Mildred’s Temple Kitchen packed with sweets, goodies and surprises. In the images, you will see both the winners and the vendors working together to create one hell of a wonderful day, positive vibes for everyone! And so much eye candy!!!

Savannah Inspired Wedding Shoot in Canada

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Rhythm Photography

We love that today’s Canadian team of vendors decided to tackle a shoot designed around the Southern romance of Savannah, Georgia. The group (including Rhythm Photography, Kate MacKenzie Weddings, and Benny & ViV, to name a few) used a color palette of grey and peach with a bit of gold to keep things glam but still refined and inspired. We also love the use of floral ice cubes here for a great visual pick-me-up!

Savannah inspired wedding shoot in Canada - photo by Rhythm Photography http://ruffledblog.com/savannah-inspired-wedding-shoot-in-canada

From the creative director, Kate MacKenzie Weddings: This shoot was inspired by sweet whimsical ‘Savannah’ touches, and richer, generations-old accents and textures. We wanted to illustrate a more ‘haunted’ side of a Savannah-scape – not the carefree, southern girl trend, but rather a decidedly more somber scene. We shot at a venue north of Toronto called the Heintzman House, which in so many ways was reminiscent of the interior of a plantation. The word ‘plantation’ seems almost fabled as it carries such a heavy, dark history with it – but there was something deeply meaningful about capturing “Savannah” with all its peaches, floral ice cubes, romantic blooms, dripping with amaranthus and femininity, but staged against a more sophisticated, shadowed backdrop. We wanted to illustrate both aspects as beautifully and authentically as possible.

Glamorous Country Chic Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

We’re nearly halfway through the year, and marsala is still inspiring us! For today’s styled shoot, Rosenlee Photography and Wild Carrot Floral pair the Pantone color with some gold in a farm setting, bringing us some country chic complete with some darling little farm animals to bring everything full circle!

From the photographer, Rosenlee Photography: Country chic meets glamour! Located in Hampton Ontario, this styled shoot takes place at Royal Maples Estate, a small hobby farm. Incorporating some of the hottest colours – gold and marsala – we wanted to create a glamorous shoot which incorporated all aspects of country living. In addition to the amazing colours, we thought it was imperative to incorporate the main resident of Royal Maples- the fancy chicken. Using gold tipped feathers throughout, the invitations, cake, and decor was stylized around a white fluffy chicken.

Wedding Style Meets the Big Easy

Wedding Design

There are few cities as rife with their own personal style as New Orleans, Louisiana. Brass instruments, Mardi Gras, and a nod to French sensibilities are the first things that come to mind for me, and this styled shoot from GreenAutumn Photography & Film, Frou Frou House, Delight Floral Design fuses these things together for an inspiring styled shoot that has us yearning for a trip down south!

wedding style meets the Big Easy - photo by GreenAutumn Photography and Film http://ruffledblog.com/wedding-style-meets-the-big-easy

From the paper goods designers, Frou Frou House: The inspiration for our styled shoot came from a recent trip to the culturally infused city of New Orleans. Belonging to our neighbours down south, this little gem was packed with breathtaking architecture, musical history, classic flair and indigenous cuisine. It was not hard for us to fall in love and envision a styled wedding based on the Big Easy lifestyle and culture.

Our tablescape featured a French Horn as the centerpiece borrowing from the city’s affair with brass instruments. This was our focal point and was surrounded by vintage gold candlesticks. A luscious leafy garland peppered with subtle florals crafted by the talented Delight Floral Design draped down the center of the table. We paired this beautifully with a navy satin linen and charcoal napkins provided by Susan Murray International. Influenced by the presence of the Art Deco era within New Orleans, we selected mirrored plate chargers from Event Rental Group, gold flatware and custom menus designed by our in house team that served as remnants of this period.

The stunning florals incorporated rich jewel tones of burgundy and magenta which were accented with soft blush pink roses and wax flowers. This gave our shoot just the right amount of sophistication and romance. Wanting to include a little bit of the Big Easy cuisine, we used a traditional New Orleans pastry – beignets by Vanilla Lane for our sweet table. The two tier navy cake with delicate handmade blush pink florals looked lovely in front of the lace and gold dipped feather backdrop.

One of the highlights of our trip was witnessing a delightful Second Line wedding march filled with a full band, frilly parasols and a whole ton of 50s flair go down the middle of the French Quarter streets. We based the look of our couple on this experience. Our breathtaking bride wore a gorgeous cap sleeve ivory Theia gown completely embellished with ivory sequins from Sash & Bustle. A charming feather hairpiece was placed effortlessly in her hair which was styled with lovely vintage sapphire earrings. The handsome groom wore a custom classic navy suit from Surmesur Toronto, a crisp white shirt and a dark green polka dot bow tie for an added colourful touch. Our friends at GreenAutumn Photography captured our vision wonderfully and the raw candid moments between our real life couple could not have been more romantic and natural. This timeless, romantic wedding inspiration is perfect for a sophisticated yet fun bride that appreciates the small personal details from a city full of life, love and history.

Winter Garden Wedding in Toronto

Garden Weddings

Photos by:

Olive Photography

The more we see amaranthus used in wedding decor, the quicker it becomes a favorite of ours. Coriander Girl masterfully draped the beautiful bloom for a hanging chandelier over the reception tables in Niveen and Rob’s winter garden wedding in Toronto, beautifully captured by Olive Photography. Get ready for a big dose of pretty!

From the bride, Niveen: We were actually hoping for a summer outdoor/garden wedding. But, life happened and we ended up buying a house. My family is traditional and preferred that I move in after we are married. So we planned the wedding in 6 months because we’d rather be together than wait for the summer sun! Luckily, it’s a less busy time and it was possible for us to find some fantastic artists, venue, and vendors on such short notice.

Other than taking photos in the cold, it was perfect! And I wouldn’t change the time even if I had the chance to. In the end I got the garden wedding I wanted, thanks to our brilliant Florist at Coriander Girl. We knew we wanted something lush and romantic and more colorful than a typical white winter wedding and she made it happen. We had all the lovely vintage touches through the fantastic Krista Jane and the awesomeness that is Archeo.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Just because it’s winter it doesn’t mean that it has to lack life or color! We ran in the opposite direction of silver and white, and went with gold, navy and deep pink and purple jewel tones. Another tip, no matter what your budget is, hire a day of coordinator! I didn’t want to think of a thing during that day besides having the time of my life. Last one, use your gut/instincts, I met with a few photographers, and florists, and something just clicked with who we ended up with. Everything felt natural, and honestly, and I couldn’t have met greater and more talented people!

From the photographer, Anastasia of Olive Photography: Niveen and Rob had a memorable reception with a jaw-dropping floral arrangement above their head table (along with seriously stunning florals throughout), super cool sweet table with chocolate-dipped oreos (their favourite cookie), baklava (a nod to Niveen’s culture) and doughnuts, and surprise entertainment in the form of dancers who impressively balanced candelabras on their heads! They also had a ‘love lock’ engraved with their initials and wedding date to secure to a wall amongst those of other lovebirds near their venue that they can visit and smile at for years to come. Niveen sported a super cute stole to keep her warm (can you believe it’s H&M?), an eye-catching headpiece, and blue velvet shoes as her ‘something blue’. Rob had a nifty and totally dapper tie clip along with a custom-tailored suit.

Garden Inspired Bridal Shower

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Mango Studios

If this Dolce and Gabbana inspired wedding that we shared earlier got you weak in the knees, then the bridal shower the bride had is just what the doctor ordered. The bride, who is also an Event Designer herself at RDT Events + Beauty, left her secret garden inspired bridal shower in the hands of stylist Melissa Baum Events and Mango Studios was there to capture it. Just wait until you get a peek at that wedding cake!

garden inspired bridal shower - photo by Mango Studios http://ruffledblog.com/garden-inspired-bridal-shower

From the bride, Renata: I had my vision of a “Secret Garden” but knew as the bride, I couldn’t do it all myself so I co-produced and styled my bridal shower along with my talented friend Melissa, (of Melissa Baum Events) – as 2 heads are better than one! Together we took my vision of a Secret Garden and we made it grow into something beautiful.

A secret garden is just that – a garden full of secrets and whimsical elements. We enlisted Becky from Blush and Bloom to create a garden oasis. We wanted to mimic the entrance to a secret garden so guests entered by passing through a gorgeous garland draping the front doors. Mixed blooms, birds, vintage book pages, moss and more filled the tables. Keeping with the theme, each table featured “secrets” about Renata’s bridesmaids. The head table had hanging globes atop of it with blooms draping down and out of the globes.

The stunning sweet table was filled with yummy desserts from Nadia & Co ~ that all sat atop a vintage desk, from Key Event Rentals. It featured hand painted pink macarons, pink popcorn, candy apples and a cake that was truly a work of art. The sweet table was complete with signage by Anista Designs. I handmade our moss guest board (with real moss!) and the vintage escort cards, also made by Anista Designs, were attached to vintage keys. As guests said their goodbyes, they had hand wrapped soaps in hand with custom labels reading “Soap Glad You Could Come!” Mango Studios captured our event so perfectly!

Elegant Toronto Wedding Inspired by Dolce & Gabbana

Elegant Weddings

We love seeing weddings that are a long time in the making, and Renata and Aundrae went on their first date in 2005. Nearly a decade later, the couple exchanged vows in Toronto with the help of photographer Boyfriend/Girlfriend, wedding planner/designer and reception florist Melissa Andre Events, and bouquet florist Blush & Bloom, choosing a wedding theme inspired by Dolce & Gabbana’s spring/summer 2014 campaign. I dare you to find a more fashionable couple!

From the bride, Renata: From day 1 we knew we didn’t want anything typical so when we met with our wedding planner, she presented the most perfect inspiration: Dolce & Gabbana spring/summer 2014 campaign and we were instantly sold! The rich golds, warm reds, blacks and hint of blue when combined, made something so dreamy!

Warm. Romantic. Inviting. Rich textures. Fashion forward. Our wedding reminded me of a modern Spanish cathedral – it took place in a church (built in the 1800’s) so that speaks for itself. Melissa & her team modernized it with the gorgeous Christian Lacroix wallpaper as the table top and modern elements throughout. One of our favorite elements we added was the custom drawn caricature – we both love soccer and have played for almost all our lives, so having both of us drawn in our wedding attire, wearing soccer cleats, was an obvious choice.

For the ceremony, we had an arch made up of rucus foliage as well as hanging amaranthus. My bouquet was very important to me – I really wanted something I had never seen before and so different. My friend Becky is beyond talented – I sent her an image of the protea flowers and I knew I had to have it. How it turned out was better than I imagined! Our floral arrangements at the reception were a mix of garden roses, peonies and anomones.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice for couples planning their wedding is to stay calm and try not to get caught up in it. I found the process can easily get stressful and frustrating – especially costs and budgets. Pick whatever is most important to you, and eliminate things you could live without. In the end, as long as you get married, the rest will fall into place.

Wedding Music:
First Dance: “I Found My Everything,” Mary J Blige
Music was a huge thing for us! We both love music and different genres, and knew that music is the one thing to get people going! For our ceremony, we had a single violinist so it was so romantic and beautiful and we wanted him to play Ave Maria as it means so much to us. The cocktail was inspired by Frank Sinatra with a mix of soul, Motown and jazz.

Creative Toronto Wedding with Stylish Backdrops

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

A Brit & A Blonde

Make sure you’re cozy in your seat, because today’s wedding from A Brit & A Blonde, Darling & Daisy, and Blush And Bloom is a doozy. Aleksandra and Dave’s wedding in Toronto was full of the most incredible touches, including a darling sweetheart table with a sequin backdrop, a cake table with endless treats, and a ceremony setup I could stare at for days on end.

From the photographers, A Brit & A Blonde: There’s nothing more exciting for a wedding team than a couple who dreams of an explosion of creativity for their big day. Every single part of this wedding was rad, stunning and perfect. There were so many details that are just to lovely for words. The couple brought together some of the best Toronto wedding vendors to create what the bride Aleks called her “Dream Team”. Mercedes from Darling & Daisy was the creative director pulling together a most gorgetastic and whimsical look and feel.

Aleksandra works in a library and is passionate about reading, which inspired such details as the book page backdrop and library card “seating chart.” Beet & Path designed personalized library cards which include the guests name, meal choice, and an itinerary on the flip side. Each guest retrieved his or hers in a vintage library card box. The room was adorned by candle light, lace, books and flowers. Blush and Bloom created, garlands, bouquets and an abundance of centerpieces featuring pink peonies, mums, a variety of roses, and greenery arranged with a lush yet organic flair. The vintage furniture added character and a sense of family comfort to the wedding.

A focal point of design was the ladder archway under which the vows took place, later transformed into an elaborate sweet display on the dance floor. The Wedding cake Shoppe baked the most delicious variety of cakes, pies, cookies, cupcakes, tarts and everything your sweet tooth could possibly crave. Darling and Daisy hand made a “Sweet Love” marquee sign, labels for each treat and styled the display incorporating a sequins table cloth, bar cart, 2 vintage desks and of course – tons of beautiful foliage. We have literally never seen so many flowers – the reception set up was gorgeous and felt like a garden.

From the bride, Aleksandra: We wanted the day to be about us and our unique relationship; and we wanted to share that with our closest family and friends. We are very untraditional, we planned our wedding, then told our family and friends, and then did the “formal proposal” We instantly decided that we would not do anything that we didn’t feel comfortable with, especially the traditional aspects of weddings that didn’t have meaning to us. We decided that we would spend as much time as possible together, we woke up together, had breakfast together with family, and we saw each other as soon as we were ready. We walked down the aisle together too. We wanted to the whole day to be a reflection of us and our style; fun, casual and pretty, basically we wanted to host a great party.

Romantic Beach Inspiration in Toronto

Wedding Design

If you ever wondered how to have a beach wedding that’s pure sophistication and class, you needn’t wonder anymore. Jessica Rose Photography, KJ & Co, and Blush & Bloom have the answer in the form of this styled wedding shoot, which takes a simple color palette of white, green, and gold and creates an absolutely dreamy scene.

Romantic beach inspiration in Toronto - photo by Jessica Rose Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-beach-inspiration-in-toronto

From the photographer, Jessica Rose: My vision for this shoot was to combine elegance and earthiness in a simple beautiful way. Working to make that into a reality with each one of these vendors was a dream, they are each so talented and wonderful to work with! We wanted to share with brides that less is often more, especially when each piece is chosen purposefully. Location, colour palette, decor, lighting… Each detail being a word, a line, a notation that flows together to create the final masterpiece.

Rainy Day Ontario Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Tara McMullen

Who says the rain needs to spoil your wedding day? Luckily Amanda and Kyle forged ahead with their beautiful wedding day plan, despite a bit of damp weather. Barb Simkova for Tara McMullen and BBBlooms helped the couple create their lush, inspiring day around the natural beauty of their surroundings in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Needless to say, we’re captivated.

Rainy Day Ontario Wedding - photo by Tara McMullen http://ruffledblog.com/niagara-on-the-lake-wedding

From the bride, Amanda: The venue and its natural, story-book landscape which included stunning views of vineyards, orchards and the Niagara escarpment were the main source of visual inspiration. We wanted that to be the main focus visually and so planned all details and decor as an accent to the natural beauty that surrounded us so as to not compete with it. Overall we wanted to achieve a laid-back feeling and look that was elegant, romantic and whimsical.

Bouquet recipe: Dahlias (they were huge and my favourite!), Garden Roses, Silver Dollar Eucalyptus, Seeded Eucalyptus, Cedar branches (a nod to my husband’s Muskoka roots), Succulents, Veronica. Wrapped in long ribbons (for a bit of a playful/whimsical feel) and a piece of lace from my Mothers Wedding Dress. We also tied on my late Grandfather’s wedding band (which he gave me before he died) so I could feel that a piece of him was there with us.

The rain brought a lot of positive aspects we didn’t ever imagine. It brought people together, sparked impromptu conversations amongst guests and made for some amazing memories (slow dancing in the rain holding each other tight, cuddling to stay warm and dry under an umbrella during our photo session, and getting wet as we ran back to our hotel hand in hand through the vineyard at the end of the night). One nice surprise was when Barb thought of the option of doing our first look at the original ceremony spot under the tree I had styled with all of the ribbons. I was pretty bummed about spending the entire morning steaming cutting and styling the ribbons in the tree that was supposed to be our ceremony site only to have it rain. I wasn’t bummed about the rain as much as I was bummed about knowing something I worked hard on (and did a pretty kick ass job on!) wouldn’t be used for anything and no one would see it. I never thought it would double as a backdrop for our first look – it honestly made my day when we did that!

Looking back, our day was filled with so much love, fun, enormous amounts of laughter, great music, lots of dancing, delicious food and all of our favourite people! It raining on our wedding day was a tiny detail, not a major catastrophe. It of course helped that we are both easy going and positive people who never let uncooperative weather get in the way of our fun. Also, that we had a solid, thoughtfully designed rain plan. Sure the weather was not exactly what we wanted, but it didn’t stop us from having the best time ever and embracing our day to the fullest.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It’s your day and a celebration of your love! Stay true to what feels right for you both and what is most important to YOU. Don’t cave to outside pressure to do things a certain way or do certain wedding traditions that didn’t mean anything to you just for the sake of doing them. Set a budget and stick to it, let your vendors know what you’ve allotted for their service and negotiate! Work with vendors who you like, who listen and contribute to your ideas, not replace them with their own. Work with people who are genuine and will add positivity and beauty to your day. Do a first look! (It’s so nice to have more time to spend with your guests.) Do everything in one place! (the day is waaay more relaxed and easier on everyone involved). Have fun! Celebrate! You’ve just said I do to the love of your life, enjoy the rush and try to slow down and take it all in. Everyone told me the day would fly by and it flew by faster than I ever would have imagined.

It’s always the sweet little touches that make a wedding truly shine – like the fact that couple Shannae and Sean exchanged vows at the same ski club where Sean spent vacations skiing with his family. Their wedding day was full of unexpected pops of fun, like the dove release during the ceremony, the sequined bridesmaid dresses, and the dramatic floral arrangements by Pink Twig Floral. Thank you Michael Rousseau for bringing your A game as always!

From the bride, Shannae: We decided to get married in Blue Mountain, Ontario at a Ski Club where my husband grew up skiing with his family and the venue (Craigleith Ski Club) had a rustic cabin feel to it so I wanted to replicate that in the look and feel of the wedding. We would describe the vision as rustic, mountains, glam, plum, gold.

Start a pinterest page with a board for every category or item that you need for your wedding and buy your dress and before seriously planning decor. The dress sets the tone of the evening and Pinterest will help you map out your day. Be present on the day of, take everything in. Thompson Toronto Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Celine Kim

Why do we love today’s bride so much? Oh, it could be her effervescent coolness, her perfectly angelic Jenny Yoo wedding gown, but the fact that she popped the question to her groom is probably our top reason. Jessica and Brock didn’t want their wedding day to be reliant upon tradition and instead carved out their own little slice of wedding day heaven thanks to the talents of Celine Kim and Coriander Girl!

From the bride, Jessica: Brock and I are not traditionalists by any means. In fact, I proposed to him (why should the boys have all the fun anyway?)! After we got engaged, what surprised me most was how quickly the wedding planning begins. We were asked about our wedding date the day we got engaged! It is so fun to let yourselves get swept up by everyone’s collective excitement and enthusiasm.

The hardest part of wedding planning was definitely choosing the right location. I am from Montreal, Brock is from Toronto and we met in Kingston, Ontario, so we knew friends and family would have to travel no matter where we chose. I began my searching in both Montreal and Toronto. I dreamed of an ultra modern wedding in an all-white loft or gallery but quickly found out that this was not the most economical decision. Being lovers of food, we looked into restaurants who held weddings but they did not feel right with our larger than expected guest list. I had never considered a hotel for our wedding but The Thompson surprised us! The whole rustic country-wedding thing is so not us. We are both city kids and wanted to be in an urban location. Nothing highlighted the beauty of the city quite like the view from The Thompson’s patio. I worried about the dark ballroom but we just could not resist having the city behind us as we exchanged our vows. I am so happy with our choice! It was so nice to have the food, drinks, linens, etc be handled by a team professionals and this allowed me to focus on the details of our day. Another very important detail was that the hotel was dog friendly so Jackson, our dog, was allowed to be a part of our day and he acted as our ring bearer!! The Thompson did a great job, we have only received positive feedback from our guests and I ended up loving the romantic look of the dark ballroom and the contrast it provided from our bright ceremony.

Brock and I decided to have a wedding to be able to celebrate our love with our friends and family. It was not only our day! Throughout the planning process, we thought deeply about our guests’ experience at our wedding. We considered the weddings we had attended and discussed what we really liked and disliked as guests. This informed several major decisions. A good example was our photo slideshow. My bridesmaid, MJ, made us an amazing slideshow and we wanted to share it with everyone but there were several photos and we knew that making everyone watch the whole thing during our reception would not be fun. Let’s be honest looking at your old baby pictures is not everyone’s idea of a good time. We were lucky to have a screening room included in our wedding rental at The Thompson and so we played the slideshow in a loop in that room all night. Aside from letting everyone enjoy the slideshow at their own pace this also offered an alternate environment to our guest where they could just sit and relax. It was fun to periodically enter the screening room and see different faces in there every time!

I loved every detail of our wedding but two of my favourites were our table names and having Polaroid cameras with our guestbook. For the table names, Brock and I decided to have names of locations in our favourite films and TV shows. We worked on the list of names for weeks, researching the correct names and considering what films and TV shows to include. It was such a personal touch and really reflected our love for pop culture. For our guestbook, I had envisioned everyone signing the book and nicely leaving a cute little Polaroid of themselves next to their note but I got something way better! Thanks to our open bar, our guestbook is one of the funniest things I have ever seen and I still laugh every time I look through it. Everyone had a blast with the Polaroid cameras and I am so happy I bought way too much film to enable any late night photo inspirations. The guestbook has become the most meaningful keepsake of our day.

Finally, the best part of the wedding day was actually taking pictures alone with Brock and our photographers. I had originally not wanted a reveal and hoped to wait to see Brock until I walk down the aisle. I am so happy Celine, our amazing photographer, suggested we consider a reveal. Our reveal was one of the sweetest moments ever and getting ample time to take photos afterwards was such a gift. The wedding day itself is so crazy, I was grateful for those peaceful moments alone with Brock even though they were in front of the camera. It allowed Brock and I to connect before our vows and let us really take in what we were about to embark on together. It also helps that our photography team was calm, fun and so easy to be around. Brock and I are still over the moon about the wedding. There were so many personal touches that made the day extra special. We still talk about it often and reflect on the many great moments but the best part is hearing how much our friends and family enjoyed themselves as we really did see it as their day too.

Puck’s Farm Wedding

Whimsical Weddings

Photos by:

Sara Wilde

No matter how many times we look over this Puck’s Farm wedding, we can’t escape the feeling we’re in the ultimate barn party dream. Holly and Kristjan’s wedding took a spectacular farm setting, jazzed it up with some whimsical touches and plenty of inspiring decor, and added in a few sweet farm animals as a bonus. Thank you to Sara Wilde Photography and My Luscious Backyard for working your magic here!

From the bride, Holly: When we first started to plan our wedding, we didn’t know that we wanted to have a kooky wedding on a real, functioning farm, but we knew what we did not want. We did not want something stuffy, impersonal, or overly formal. That just wasn’t us. Once we settled on Puck’s Farm as our venue, we really took our cues from the farm, and designed our wedding around it. We made our guests’ enjoyment our top priority. Since Kristjan is a professional musician, we have many talented musician friends who took the stage throughout the night. There was a different live musical act throughout each stage of the wedding, including the pre-ceremony, ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and dance party. In some ways it felt more like a musical festival, than a wedding!

Flower recipe: Our florist, Sarah, created the bouquets, boutonnieres, and corsages with flowers that are grown seasonally and locally in her own backyard. Since we didn’t have a specific colour scheme in mind (“colourful” was our only criteria), she had free reign over the design, and they turned out beautifully. She also provided a loose mix of flowers, which my sister-in-law incorporated into our centrepieces. The rest of the flowers were picked from my mom’s garden.

We tried to keep everything casual, colourful, whimsical, and fun. The suggested dress code for our wedding was “Barnyard Chic”. It was fun to see how our guests interpreted this – there were a lot of really awesome outfits! Our main themes were a mish-mash of “Camping” “Farm Animals” “Music” and “Booze”. We used farm animals as our table numbers, which were placed in whiskey bottles from Kristjan’s prized collection. Our dinner menu was good old fashioned BBQ, and we gave out s’mores kits as our favours (to be roasted at the late night bonfire). Many of our guests camped out in the field over night. Everything about this wedding was DIY, from the centrepieces, decorations, favours, and desserts, to the planning, organizing, and execution. Luckily, we had a tremendous amount of help from our family and friends. Without them, we would not have been able to pull it off.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t be afraid to go against the grain and break tradition. We only included the elements of a traditional wedding that were meaningful to us, and scrapped the rest of the formalities. This made our wedding day feel more personal. It was a true representation of what we are all about as a couple. Also, if you are having a DIY wedding, do not be afraid to ask for help! And do not underestimate the amount of time it will take to execute your ideas. You will almost certainly need someone (or an entire crew) available to help with set up on the morning of your wedding, so you and the groom can focus on getting dolled up. You’ll find most people will be happy to help in whichever way they can.

Wedding Music:
Almost all of the music at our wedding was performed live by our talented friends. In addition to their original music and some great covers, Kristjan created the musical arrangements for all of the ceremonial songs.
Processional: “Old Dirt Hill,” Dave Matthews Band – performed by string trio and acoustic guitar*
Bride’s Processional: “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” Harold Arlen” – performed by string trio and ukelele*
Signing of the Registry: “Same Love,” Macklemore & Ryan Lewis – performed by string trio*
Recessional: “Wouldn’t it Be Nice,” The Beach Boys – performed by string trio and saxophone*
First Dance: “To Build A Home,” Cinematic Orchestra – performed by string trio, piano and vocals*
*(arrangement by Groom)

From the photographer, Sara Wilde Photography: Kristjan and Holly had been exhaustedly searching for the right venue, without much luck. They knew that they wanted something casual, outdoors, and fun, and it had to fit within their limited budget. They came across Puck’s Farm and it fit EVERY aspect of what they were looking for and for the theme they wanted: Barnyard Chic. Everyone (friends and family alike) came together to make their wedding dreams a reality – late night sewing of the pendants, floral arranging, to friends putting on non-stop live music for the entire night. The guests even got to stay overnight, pitching tents in the field and having an amazing bonfire (with s’more favours!) to end the celebration. I’d like to think the best part of the whole day, was when the farm lost power, and the band that was playing for that time (Saturday Night Jive) kept playing without missing a single beat, the guests held up their glowing cell phones and partied on!

From the bride, Rebecca: Between our family and closest friends, we knew we would have a guest list of around 140 people. At the same time, we wanted to keep the wedding as intimate as possible. We tried to achieve that by keeping the colours warm and more importantly, incorporating little touches of ourselves wherever we could. We love board games so we placed a Jenga set by the guestbook and asked everyone to jot down marriage advice on each of the blocks. For our bonbonnieres, we sourced little tins of tea sachets from our favourite tea company, and we wrapped each tin with ribbon from my favourite store (Mokuba). (When Darin proposed, he had tied the ring to a long strand of Mokuba ribbon!)

I’m not sure if we had an overall theme or style that we were trying to achieve, but we knew that there were certain things we just needed to have. String lights were a must – Christmas lights are a year-round decoration in our home! An added bonus, the warmth of the string lights looked so beautiful against the rustic backdrop of the old converted church where we celebrated. We also wanted to have long harvest tables, which felt more communal to us… like everyone is a part of one big family! The one other thing we knew we had to incorporate was our love for music. The reception part came easy – a good friend of ours had volunteered his DJ services as soon as we were engaged, and since he knows us so well we were comfortable giving him full reign of the evening. For the ceremony, we knew we had to find a specific someone but weren’t really sure how. One of our favourite places to go to while we were dating was a small creperie in Toronto, and on some weekends there would be an accordion player playing French-style cafe music. With a little google research we were able to connect with him, and we were so glad we did because having the accordion and clarinet play during the ceremony and cocktail hour was a definite highlight. They walked around amongst the guests during the cocktail hour, which really lent to a more intimate feel, and the sound of the music was so charming and old-worldly – a perfect match to our venue.

An exact colour scheme was hard to pin down, but in the end it became a mix of corals, peach, blush pink, and orange with touches of gold and silver. I was most excited about finding the dresses for each of the ladies in my bridal party – I knew I wanted them in different dresses all in neutral colours, and with a mix of texture (lace, brocade, etc). One of the DIY projects was putting together the seating chart. We had found a beautiful old wooden frame, not really knowing if it would be large enough to fit all of the place cards. With help from my bridesmaid, we stayed up one night measuring out twine to hang from the frame and properly spacing out all the cards to fit within it perfectly! Another project was the menu cards. Aside from ribbon, beautiful stationery/greeting cards is my weakness. Instead of printing out menu cards, I thought it would be a great idea to place cute Rifle Paper & Co. cards on the tables with the menu handwritten inside.

We had planned to take a few days off work leading up to the wedding day, so we ended up leaving quite a few things till the last minute. However, it just caused unnecessary stress and less hours of sleep! Try not to leave things like the seating arrangement and your thank-you speech till the week of the wedding – they ended up taking more time than we had expected.

Vintage Inspired Ontario Wedding

Vintage Weddings

We have a rare treat for you all today, sweethearts. Over the years we’ve seen many a bride share her dream wedding with us, but today we’ve got a wedding put together by the groom and his mother as a surprise for the bride. We’ve got all the deets from the groom himself on how he was able to put it together with the help of Joseph + Jaime Photography and Coriander Girl, so let’s jump in!

vintage inspired Ontario wedding - photo by Joseph and Jaime Photography http://ruffledblog.com/vintage-inspired-ontario-wedding

From the groom, Mike: I’m a lucky guy. I married the girl next door. My parents moved to the small town of Baltimore, Ontario, about ten years ago. Not long after, the McFarlanes moved in across the street. Their daughter was a pretty blonde girl whom I met at my parents’ neighbourhood Halloween party in 2008. We hit it off and quickly became friends. Friendship grew into something more and I proposed to her at the historic inn at Wakefield, Quebec, in the fall of 2011. We both knew that the perfect place to get married was at my parents’ house — the place we met. Set atop a hill that overlooks Lake Ontario and the rolling hills of Northumberland County, the wedding had to reflect the beautiful natural scenery. We decided that the ceremony would be held in a clearing in the cedar woods adjacent to the house, and the dinner and dancing would take place in the property’s century-old barn — the exact location we met. Wanting to bring the inside outside, and the outside inside, the only way we could think to describe our vision was “woodland whimsy.”

After discovering the perfect wedding invitations, we set about using them as a template for our wedding’s look and style. Together with my mother, we began putting together our dream wedding. Although we always consulted Lauren on major issues, my mother and I decided that we wanted to design the look of the wedding in secret from Lauren. We wanted her to experience the joy and excitement of having the venue revealed to her on the big day, along with all the other guests. The first time she saw the ceremony site, decorated with simple ferns and vintage church windows, was when we both walked down the aisle together, hand in hand. With the expert design sense that she is known for, my mother helped to put together a wedding that existed only in our dreams. The dinner tables were covered in rich aubergine and gold brocade and set with elegant china. The woodland theme was tastefully reflected in all the details — from the table décor, to the handmade place settings, to the heart shaped moss garland on the wall. We also incorporated crystal, gold, pewter and rust-coloured animal figurines, candelabras and other décor elements. The barn was finished we antique furniture and props, including frames and mirrors to fill the walls, creating a warm and elegant setting for dinner and dancing. Lauren and I had our dream wedding. But in the end, the wedding is just a party. The best part is that I get to come home to Lauren every day. There is no one else who would be as a good a match for me as she is. She is a kind and loving person, who also happens to be my best friend. As I said, I’m a lucky guy.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? From the bride: Give yourselves lots of time to plan and execute your wedding, especially if you plan on doing a majority of the planning/DIY yourselves. Try to avoid stressing out (it’s hard!) and enjoy the process as much as possible. Ask your family and friends for help! Chances are they’re happy to help, and want to make the whole process as stress-free and enjoyable as possible for you. Decide what’s most important for you, what you’d like your wedding/reception to focus on, and put your efforts (and money) there. For us, we wanted amazing food, so we prioritized our budget to include the best caterers we could find. Whether it’s a live band, great food, or a Ferris Wheel, find a way to make it happen!

Remember to think of your guests. After all, you and your partner are their hosts. Are they warm/cool enough? Are they bored? If you choose to take photos between the ceremony and reception, arrange a cocktail hour for them or an activity (guestbook, mad libs, etc.). No one likes waiting around with nothing to do! Having a wedding at home was one of the best decisions we made: it was neither inexpensive nor easy, but well worth it, knowing we could wake up and get ready at home, and at the end of a crazy, exciting day, walk across the street and go to bed. If a home wedding fits your vibe, I definitely recommend it. The most important thing to remember is that in the end, a wedding is just a party. Take lots of time out of the planning process to just enjoy your relationship, and each other. It will help you refocus when you’re overwhelmed, and remind you why you’re getting married in the first place! :)

Brooklands Farm Wedding

When He Found Her

The second I saw today’s venue – the lovely Brooklands Farm – I knew I was in for a treat. I was only more excited when I saw Reid of When He Found Her was behind the camera, and his blend of digital and film photography left me absolutely breathless. Here’s what can be accomplished when talented vendors and crafty friends come together to create something truly beautiful:

From the photographer, Reid Lambshead of When He Found Her: There were so many amazing details surrounding this wedding, it’s hard to know where to start. Katie had a very specific vision, and between many talented suppliers, a creative wedding party, and the crafty hands of the lovely bride and groom everything came together seamlessly.

Brooklands Farm, the venue, uses sustainable farming methods and is still in full operation. The barn on property is a heritage building, and farm strawberries were served with house made ice cream for dessert and available after dinner at the sweets table. The barn was used for the ceremony and dance party, so there was a complete flip during the tented dinner to accommodate this. The bridal suite (cottage on property) was also used as a games room and coffee/tea station later in the evening, so needless to stay, the logistics of the day were also demanding.

Katie and her maids dipped and wrote out all the escort cards, and the worship programs at the ceremony were crafted by a bridesmaid. The jam favours were made by a family friend, and then topped and labeled by the bridesmaids. Calvin built and stained all the boxes that housed the table arrangements at dinner, refurbished and distressed the dresser (used for mocktail glasses and then transformed into the favour stand), and made the endless directional signs staked around the property.

Glam Toronto Hotel Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Christine Lim

I have to admit, Toronto is quickly becoming one of my favorite locations for weddings. It seems to have a never-ending abundance of stunning venues, like the Drake Hotel – which you’ll see in this wedding from Christine Lim. This beauty is pushed over the top with impeccable floral design from Coriander Girl!

From the bride, Betsy: Though my husband and I both care about design and aesthetics, the words that kept coming up in our planning had more to do with how we wanted our wedding to feel: warm, intimate, personal, and fun. The ceremony was very important to us; we put a lot of time and thought into writing it, as well as choosing the readings and music. After that, we wanted great food and a can’t-stop-won’t-stop dance party to take us through the night. We filled in the blanks with design elements that held personal significance and made us smile (like peach carnations and gold dinosaurs), whether or not they necessarily made immediate sense together. In the end, it looked and felt like us, which was exactly what we wanted.

Overall, I think the vibe we ended up with was a kind of eclectic, industrial glam with touches of vintage charm, not all of which we can take credit for. For instance, my lovely and beautiful bridesmaids each have terrific style, and without any real coordination other than the color of the dresses, they ended up looking like the most glamorous 60s girl group — it fit the party and the venue perfectly. We had a loose palette of gold, peach, pale pink, and black and white, but we didn’t let ourselves stress out too much about coordinating the details. We trusted what we liked, and it all came together in the end.

As far as DIY went, we were incredibly lucky to have the help of our very talented family and friends. One of our closest friends (and a groomsman) is an amazing graphic designer who created all of our paper goods. My stepmother-in-law is a phenomenal hostess, and she surprised us by turning the simple welcome party we had planned into a huge pre-wedding feast. The guest favors were a lovely team effort from my parents: My mother is a beekeeper, so she supplied honey from her hives, while my patient father put together all of the packaging. Receiving the gift of time and energy from the people we love kept us sane and also helped make everything even more personal.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Know your DIY limits. It was important to me to make the wedding cake, but I didn’t want to be stressing out about piping frosting when I could be spending pre-wedding time with a rare assemblage of all my favorite people. Rather than taking on a big traditional cake, I made three smaller cakes, and focused on great flavors instead of elaborate design. I baked the layers and made the frosting ahead of time, then had someone at the venue help to put the simple, spare cakes together the morning of the wedding. Also, even if you’re not having a destination wedding, consider hosting a welcome party for all of your guests to meet or catch up before the big day. By the next night, people from the often very disparate spheres of your life will be greeting each other like old summer camp pals, which helps everyone (including you) have a better time. Finally, have hilarious family and friends. One of the most frequent comments we still hear about the wedding was how much everyone loved the speeches!

Ontario Flower Child Wedding

Bohemian Weddings

Photos by:

Mango Studios

Never in my years as a wedding blogger have I seen a wedding that so effortlessly blends bohemian style with pure elegance. Alex and Josh had a day full of design and decor inspired by Alex’s own Jenny Packham gown, and what better inspiration could there be? Mango Studios took control behind the camera, and Rhiannon of Hey Gorgeous Events is here to tell us all about the big day:

garden wedding - photo by Mango Studios - ruffledblog.com/ontario-flower-child-wedding/

From the event stylist, Rhiannon of Hey Gorgeous Events: Alex and Josh are one of those couples who just radiate love from every pore in their bodies. The way they speak to one another and look at each other really allows to you to feel appreciative for even being witness to their true love. When the couple hired me to help partially plan their event and bring together a cohesive design, I knew it would be easy to create a look together with Alex and Josh that would be reflective of both their chic yet effortless style and very sweet romance. Alex’s Jenny Packham gown was a big source of inspiration behind the florals, textures and decor we went with. It’s a very textural gown with a soft and ethereal flow to it and we wanted the wedding decor to match. We also used the backdrop of their gorgeous church and reception venue, Liuna Gardens to steer our choices so that the atmosphere of the event would be stylish but scaled back to let the couples love take center stage that day. A color palette of dark greens with a touch of black and gold, were juxtaposed with soft peaches, blushes and ivories. We used a lot of textures with the linens, colors variance with the centerpieces and had over 125 pillar candles placed around the venue for a romantic vibe.

I also have to note that this event was one of those weddings were you really had to be there to ‘feel’ how special it all was. It was beautiful no doubt, but there were so many special moments throughout the day that had to be felt; the moment the church doors opened and Josh and his best man, his Dad, looked on to see Alex and her dad walking down the aisle arm in arm, the moment the couple took to the dance floor for their first dance, only to serenade one another like no one was watching, the surprise sparkler send off with all of the guests being led out to the lake only to lead into a spectacular fireworks show; it was all so wonderful and what a wedding should be. It was an honor to see it come together as it did.

Toronto Winter Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

How can you really top a wedding during the holiday season? Dominique and Mike met while on vacation in the Dominican Republic, and their lives changed in an instant. Michelle of 3Photography captured the entire day, which included nods to Christmas and a first look between not just the bride and groom, but their families as well!

Toronto Winter Wedding - photo by 3Photography - http://ruffledblog.com/toronto-holiday-wedding

From the bride, Dominique: The Distillery District is such a unique location in Toronto and it initially caught our eye when we started planning our wedding, but it wasn’t until we started working with Melissa (from Melissa Baum Events) that we found our venue. Mike and I weren’t looking for a banquet hall style wedding so we both immediately liked Airship 37.

We knew our wedding was going to be different and memorable. We tried to keep the feel of the wedding minimalist, modern and uncluttered with a hint of winter. The Toronto Christmas Market is such a busy time of year in the Distillery District and we couldn’t be happier that we were able to squeeze in some outdoor portraits. We wanted to keep the color scheme fairly muted considering we were having a winter wedding so we went with green, grey, taupe and silver. Pops of color were added in through coral icing on the cupcakes and cobalt bridesmaids’ dresses and groom/groomsmen’s socks.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Don’t sweat the small stuff, the wedding day will come and go regardless and you will have a wonderful evening. The planning process will be overwhelming and it could certainly become stressful so try to take one day a week where you don’t think about the wedding (at all). Take time for yourselves as a couple and do something you both enjoy!!!

From the photographer, Michelle of 3Photography: Dominique and Mike were married in Toronto’s Distillery District in the middle of the Christmas market with holiday vendors, twinkle lights, and Santa himself even made an appearance! Despite often being a little on the chilly side winter weddings are also quite magical and this was no exception. The traditional winter florals and decor from Blush and Bloom along with the white setting at Airship 37 were both classy and tranquil. When we were initially discussing their wedding, we talked about making sure that their photos felt like them – were authentic, not overly posed, and emotive. Well their First Look was one of the most heartfelt I’ve ever experienced, they chose to have their families present and it was the sweetest moment for everyone there. They met nearly 7 years ago in the Dominican while on vacation with each of their respective sets of friends and never looked back. Dominique packed her bags and moved from Ottawa to come to Toronto a year later and now the two live together and are even expecting their first baby!
