Colorful Modern Southern Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Lilly Pulitzer was always known for throwing a party with a punch, and the same holds true for Tyler and Connor! We can’t wait to spill the juice on this whimsical North Carolina wedding, whose vibrant display of limes, lemons and oranges balanced with bright pops of pink are giving us major wedding envy. A peony-lover’s dream, The English Garden provided lush blooms in varying shades of pink to remind us that heaven is a place on earth, and Emily March Photography tells a wonderful story through her breathtaking collection of photos from the day. Abundant in gold, glitter, pineapples and confetti, this fabulous fete was fun and fancy free, and we can’t imagine a happier celebration. Of course, none of this would have been possible without the brilliance of A Southern Soiree to curate each detail, so be sure to read on and add more color to your day!

wedding ceremony - http://ruffledblog.com/colorful-modern-southern-wedding

From the bride, Tyler: I envisioned a vibrant wedding, everyone having fun, just like a big party. My theme was Lilly Pulitzer; I have worked for the company and love everything about it. For my flowers I had peonies — they are my favorite and of course they had to be pink. Some advice I would give would be do not get stressed. Everything falls into place; it’s your wedding day have fun and enjoy it.

Brightly Colorful Sequined Wedding

Modern Weddings

Maybe it’s a girly girl’s thing, but we can never have enough glam, gold, or sequins and we’re so thrilled this A.J. Dunlap Photography wedding came our way. Kast Events and crew worked their magic all over the modern venue and transformed it into a shining spectacle. Eclectic Sage certainly stopped the show with those elaborate and gorgeous floral arrangements. In every bright color you could think of or imagine, the blooms worked so well against all of the sequined decor. Shout out to the bride’s floral crown, especially; it’s so divine!

From the photographer, A.J. Dunlap PhotographyThe pops of color, sparkly sequin and the happy couple that fill this wedding will make you smile from ear to ear. The bride wanted a glamorous and colorful wedding day, and she got just that! The ceremony was set on a theater style stage with a gold and silver paper chain background that was breathtaking. Match that with the mismatched floral bridesmaid gowns & flower crowns, and you had one gorgeous wedding.

The reception was so unique & again full of color! The pink peony and succulent centerpieces popped against the gold sequin table runners that adorned the family style tables. With unique touches everywhere like the Polaroid place cards and brownie tower wedding cake, it was a day not soon forgotten!

Prints are a huge trend right now for bridesmaids’ dresses and they’re such a hit. Oh and who says they have to be dresses? We love the new jumpsuit idea, too!

Intimate Garden Wedding Ceremony

Garden Weddings

While we love a no holds barred wedding day with an elaborate reception, Danna and Gib’s wedding makes it clear that all you really need are two people madly in love (and maybe some cake). Emily March Photography celebrated the couple’s garden wedding ceremony — decorated beautifully by TreBella Florist — which was followed up with some tasty eats and tequila shots. What better way to celebrate saying yes to forever?

Intimate Garden Wedding Ceremony - photo by Emily March Photography http://ruffledblog.com/intimate-garden-wedding-ceremony

From the photographer, Emily March: Danna and Gib had the definition of a whirlwind engagement. Gib proposed this past February, only a few months before getting deployed overseas with the Army. Too excited to wait to get married, the pair opted for an intimate civil ceremony barely a month after Gib popped the question!

This Calligrapher’s Wedding is Elegant Bliss

Elegant Weddings

What an absolute treat this wedding is! From the perspective of Allison Kuhn Photography, we get to see another talented wedding pro work on a wedding and it’s her very own. Bride Megan is a calligrapher so naturally, when it came to her own nuptials, she pulled out all of the stops and designed a stunner. Of course, all of the paper goods were amazing, and like the rest of the wedding, the florals by New Creations Flower Co. were beyond dreamy.

pink wedding bouquet - photo by Allison Kuhn Photography http://ruffledblog.com/this-calligraphers-wedding-is-elegant-bliss

From the photographer, Allison Kuhn Photography: Megan and Chris were married this past May at the Separk Mansion in North Carolina. Megan is a calligrapher and created and designed a gorgeous wedding. Every guest had watercolored escort card in addition to a silk ribbon at their table with their name calligraphed upon it. One of the most stunning details were Megan’s black, purple and gold invitation suite which she designed. To compliment all of Megan’s amazing details, Melanie of New Creations Flower Co. created a beautiful floral design upon the tables utilizing black candles throughout purple and dusty pink florals. The green ring that Megan wore was Chris’s mom’s ring who passed away several years ago. The couple was all smiles the whole day, and it couldn’t be a more perfect wedding.

Adding your wedding ceremony line-up and procession of events to a mirror like this such a chic idea. It’s such a cool decor piece and it’s great for small wedding ceremonies with small wedding parties.

Live View Studios

Take a look at this beauty of a shoot courtesy of Live View StudiosMichelle Wright Events certainly knew what they were doing when they breathed this inspiration into life. It’s chock-full of flirty and feminine details, a cool “day-to-night” must-see, the prettiest blooms by Wylde Flowers, and a classic ball gown suited for a royal princess.

Delicate Modern Wedding Inspiration - photo by Live View Studios http://ruffledblog.com/delicate-modern-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Michelle Wright EventsCherry blossoms, or Sakura, are notable throughout Japanese history in their literature, art and poetry. The soft pink bloom of a cherry blossom is both beautiful and brief, leaving admirers in wonderment every spring. Osho, a spiritual leader born in India, once said, “Life is nothing but an opportunity for love to blossom. If you are alive, the opportunity is there – even to the last breath. You may have missed your whole life: just the last breath, the last moment on the earth, if you can be love, you have not missed anything – because a single moment of love is equal to the whole eternity of love.” The perfect, yet fleeting bloom of the cherry blossom fully embodies Osho’s sentiments on love and serves as the perfect inspiration for our photo shoot.

Serenity and Rose Quartz Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

What do you do when the Pantone colors of the year are THIS pretty and jive so well together? You get a shoot together, of course! Mikkel Paige Photography and Eclectic Sage teamed up and created this inspiration pairing Serenity and Rose Quartz with vibrant pops of goldenrod. Such a fun idea and an equally fun shoot!

Serenity and Rose Quartz Wedding Inspiration - photo by Mikkel Paige Photography http://ruffledblog.com/serenity-and-rose-quartz-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Mikkel Paige Photography: A team of talented professionals in the Raleigh, NC got together to brainstorm what would be inspirational to brides and grooms in a great space downtown but also something a really crafty individual could do if they put time and energy into it. With so many DIY brides out there – we wanted elements to come together that you could craft ahead of time but to know when and where to hire pros. Hence, a mix of both featuring the Pantone Colors of the Year with pops of contrasting colors and metals to keep things interesting. Metallic gold, silver and gunmetal were mixed with Rose Quartz and Serenity to make a Paper Crafted Wedding come to life.

Boho Pink Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Anna Routh

Modern boho brides, this one’s for you. The second we saw this shoot from Anna Routh and Kelley Event Design, full of every shade of pink and the crispest whites, we fell head over heels for the fresh and airy aesthetic. Add to that not one but two beautiful wedding gowns, and we’re forever in love!

boho pink wedding inspiration - photo by Anna Routh http://ruffledblog.com/rose-quartz-spring-wedding-inspiration

From the event planner and designer, Kelley Event Design: My good friend, Anna Routh, and I pulled together this amazing spring shoot with vendors from all over North Carolina (Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Gastonia and Charlotte) and it turned out really beautifully (if I do say so myself). Anna shot it all on film and the light that day was insane at Separk Mansion. We went with a fern and rose quartz theme picking up on spring colors and of course a nod to one of the Pantone colors of the year.

Urban Botanical Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Maybe part of it is the breezy green and blue color palette, but the coolness of this shoot from Photography by Angela Tucker can’t be denied. Start with an industrial venue, add in a romantic BHLDN wedding gown, lush floral arrangements from Springvine Design, and a bit of boho flair by Social 10 Events, and you just can’t lose!

urban botanical wedding inspiration - photo by Photography by Angela Tucker http://ruffledblog.com/urban-botanical-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Angela of Photography by Angela Tucker: Our inspiration for this shoot started with this gorgeous BHLDN dress. From there, our event designer from Social 10 Events, made this shoot beautifully boho, the perfect fit for our urban/industrial location. The table settings were true eye-candy with florals provided by Springvine Design. Deedie from Springvine Design and Mandi from Social 10 came together and created a beautiful ceremony backdrop for inside the event space. This backdrop on the exposed rustic brick paired with our couple made for an amazing look. Our cake fit perfectly with the style of our shoot with a gold water color effect. I shot it under a brick archway with the most beautiful light coming in. Everything about this styled shoot would offer an incredible amount of inspiration to any bride. We had so many talented vendors involved in this shoot. The best in the business. We could not be more pleased with the final product.

Blue and Peach Organic Wedding

Romantic Weddings

The combination of soft blue and delicate peach in today’s wedding is one to fall in love with. Caroline Lima Photography and Tre Bella worked to make Danielle and Adam’s big day as memorable as possible, and we have no doubt they achieved their goal. There’s much to love in this wedding, but we’re still reeling over the bride’s emotional first look with her father!

blue and peach organic wedding - photo by Caroline Lima Photography http://ruffledblog.com/blue-and-peach-organic-wedding

From the photographer, Caroline Lima Photography: When I asked Danielle and Adam to name three things that made them fall in love with each other, they had a bit of trouble responding at first. That’s because they both felt that creating a short list would be difficult. But finally they spoke of being drawn to one another also because they each share a deep devotion to their families. And as I watched their beautiful wedding unfold, as their two families became one, I could clearly see why! Danielle and Adam come from truly loving, kind-hearted stock.

French Impressionist Inspired Wedding

Wedding Design

We started off our day with a trip to Italy, and now we’re celebrating the beauty of France with this French Impressionist inspired wedding shoot. Emily March Photography and Rebecca Rose Creative created a styled shoot inspired by the 19th century style of artwork, which means lots of soft textures and pastel shades that come together like an artist’s dream.

French Impressionist inspired wedding - photo by Emily March Photography http://ruffledblog.com/french-impressionist-inspired-wedding

From the event stylist and floral designer, Rebecca Rose Creative: This shoot was inspired by the beauty of 19th century French Impressionist artwork. In designing these wedding ideas, we strove to give a modern take on French Impressionism, which is always characterized by soft textures that blend together, abundant garden blooms, and vivid use of a pastel color palette. The gown, by Elizabeth Dye, quickly became the perfect element of inspiration, with its classic, romantic silhouette and unique blue-gray tulle overlay. Artwork by Monet lines the envelopes on the invitation suite and the colors, textures, and details of a French garden party are recreated for a modern elegant dinner setting.

Farmhouse Inspired Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

“Farmhouse Fête” conjures up a world of beautiful ideas for me, and I have to say the team involved in this event for The Big Fake Wedding’s trip to Raleigh did a brilliant idea bringing everything together. Bright colors are mixed with rustic elements and tied together with lots of candlelight, and we couldn’t love the effect any more than we do already!

Enchanted Provencal Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

For its most recent event in Asheville, North Carolina, The Big Fake Wedding turned its attention to the talented wedding vendors in this mountain region. The theme for the day was Herbes de Provence, mixing elements of the casual European aesthetic with an enchanted forest feel for a look that’s both unique and inspiring.

Mountain Estate Wedding in North Carolina

Elegant Weddings

Hearing Nancy Ray Photography describe Taylor and Chris’ wedding day, we so wish we could have been there ourselves to take in the whole day. Flower Gallery outdid themselves with arrangements full of ivory and pink blooms and lush greenery (including a cool weather favorite, dusty miller). Prepare to fall in love!

mountain estate wedding in North Carolina - photo by Nancy Ray Photography http://ruffledblog.com/mountain-estate-wedding-in-north-carolina

From the photographer, Nancy Ray Photography: The moment I stepped onto the beautiful mountain estate where this wedding celebration was held, my breath was taken away. I wish I could take you by the hand right now and lead you through the secret passage ways that led from one garden to another, to show you the historic home nestled on the side of the mountain, to let you feel the cool summer air that can only be felt in the mountains, to let you listen to the rumblings of thunder that never brought the rain (thanks to the buried bourbon!), to lead you to the ceremony tent that perfectly fit inside a garden walled with trees, to walk you around the wrap around porch that held the laughter and conversations of so many guests that day. This wedding was one of the most uniquely beautiful weddings I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing.

To add to that, Taylor and Chris are the most down to earth, devoted couple you’ll ever meet. High school sweethearts have a familiarity that already gives you the feeling that their married in some ways, because they know each other so well and have been together so long. This familiarity in Taylor and Christian only made things more exciting on their wedding day, because they, as very best friends, had looked forward to it for so long. This day sealed the many days of their lives they had already spent together, as they vowed to continue to live their lives together loving one another forever. They have an old love with a new, fresh excitement.

North Carolina Tree Farm Wedding

Rustic Weddings

When the weather starts to get a little crisper, what could be better than a wedding at a Christmas tree farm? This beauty from Chelsea Morgan Photography, Sawyer Family Farmstead, and Enchanted Florist of Asheville truly celebrates the beauty of nature during the cooler seasons, and the love between now husband-and-wife Jesse and Hannah. Congratulations to the newlyweds!

North Carolina tree farm wedding - photo by Chelsea Morgan Photography http://ruffledblog.com/north-carolina-tree-farm-wedding

From the bride, Hannah: When we were dating, we spent a lot of time together hiking and camping in the mountains. Being out in nature is part of who we are as a couple, but weren’t sure how we would incorporate the mountains and outdoors into our big day. We were so pleased when we found this venue with amazing atmosphere and views, because after that the rest simply fell into place. We wanted our day to have a classic but rustic feel.

Any advice for other couples planning their weddings now? Let the day be what it becomes, let it take on its own charm and its own beauty. I wish I hadn’t worried or cared so much about the small things. My favorite moments were those I hadn’t planned or overanalyzed in my head. The less micro-planning and overthinking the better; just be happy with your decisions, and move on. Remember, regardless of all the details, it going to be a wonderful special day!

From the photographer, Chelsea Morgan: Hannah and Jesse’s wedding was a beautiful display of rustic elegance. The Sawyer Family Farmstead was a unique approach to a mountain getaway, with the most stunning views and open reception area that allowed you to feel the cool mountain air. This Christmas tree farm was nestled perfectly in the North Carolina mountains, providing the most gorgeous backdrop for Hannah and Jesse to say their “I do’s.” Hannah and Jesse had an intimate wedding day amongst their closest family and friends. They added simple touches of green to their reception space to bring fresh natural elements indoors. Hannah has quite the green thumb and created many of the centerpieces herself. Their cake was decorated with olive leaves and Hannah’s bouquet was created with a combination of dried grasses and sea oats. It was the best smelling detail I have experienced at a wedding! With the perfect weather, we took our time after the ceremony to roam the beautiful property of their venue as the sun dipped below the mountains. Their day ended with the two of them dancing together with family and friends to tunes played by a small band. The mountain venue truly set the overall rustic outdoor atmosphere the couple wanted for during their special day. It was one of the most special weddings I have ever had the chance to photograph.

Antique Silver Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Breathless, organic, airy, elegant, romantic — all of these words perfectly describe this shoot from Wedding Nature Photography and Flora. The color palette remains simple, focusing on the natural greens and whites found in nature, and the vineyard setting couldn’t possibly be a more perfect fit. The inclusion of a two-piece wedding gown is an on-trend choice that ensures the shoot will be both modern and timeless!

Antique Silver wedding inspiration - photo by Wedding Nature Photography http://ruffledblog.com/elegant-vineyard-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer, Ilya of Wedding Nature Photography: Inspired by all natural, this styled shoot was a calling to all lovers of sophistication, organic elegance and nature. When we came to Western North Carolina, we fell in love with its natural beauty, picturesque landscape, tones and textures of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Standout Addison Farms Vineyard, with nearly 360° mountain view was another essential location with phenomenal and unique nature so well taken care of by the family of owners. Surrounded by the incredible Blue Ridge Mountains plus gorgeous bride and stunning florals resulted simple yet romantic inspiration shoot for those couples who rely on nature’s best offerings. To express naturally elegant feeling we chose white and green hues combined with soft and delicate yellow tones as a color palette for the bridal bouquet tied together with flowing silk ribbons.

We emphasized our vision on nature’s lush and beautiful creations – one-of-a-kind setting for a wedding with scenic vineyard and mountain views so we could inspire a wedding with many natural elements to be associated as a part of couple’s personalities. The bride’s breathtaking vintage-inspired crop top and full tulle skirt gown Blush by Hayley Paige Sunny along with loose organic bouquet complemented her enhancing beauty and fitted perfectly our shoot theme. We were so lucky to work with the extremely talented vendors, thanks to them, the shoot designed to be stunning! Romantic North Carolina Beach Wedding

Beach Weddings

Photos by:

Sawyer Baird

Today’s wedding is light, airy, and romantic — everything the newlyweds wanted, and everything a beach wedding should be. Sawyer Baird captured the entire day on film photography, a day full of inspiring floral design from Tildy Designs and expert coordination by Bridal by the Sea. Keep an eye out at the end for special sunset wedding portraits in a gold reception gown, because we’re pretty sure it doesn’t get any better than something that beautiful!

romantic North Carolina beach wedding - photo by Sawyer Baird http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-north-carolina-beach-wedding

From the bride, Jessica: Austin and I would have been happy to be married at the court house so we really wanted to focus on simplicity and romance. We had a gorgeous venue to get married at so luckily it didn’t really need a lot of decorating… plus we had an ocean view and it really doesn’t get much better than that! I had some close friends who I have known for a long time and where directly involved with making the day extra special — the ceremony painter, dress designer, ceremony vocalist — which was amazing! We aimed for Light, Airy and Romantic with personal touches and a Southern food theme.

I am a painter and a photographer by trade so the color palette was pretty hard for me — I knew the colors could easily get carried away because I don’t really have any one favorite. I would just have them all if I could! I tried to start with a pretty neutral color palette with blush and gold — I ended up with added hits of darker magenta added and splashes of green from the greenery. I hand painted some signs for the dessert table and for the menu. I also made gifts for the women (some coworkers of mine threw a breakfast earlier that day with about 25 ladies). They got simple tie string infinity knot bracelets with a little card that had an illustration of Austin and I on it. I also made the Thank You cards at the place settings. Also – my Mother made the ring bearer pillow from her own veil from when she got married.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My best advice for a couple currently planning a wedding would be that something will inevitably go wrong — and when it does, the most important thing to remember is that this day belongs to you and your significant other so take time to soak it all in and enjoy it. I was so excited to marry Austin that I wanted to run right down the isle to him. Throughout the day when Id notice something that wasn’t quite right Id just look over at him and remember that this was the first day of our forever — it was only going to happen once and little things like napkin colors and too much wind wasn’t what was important… The most important thing was who I was leaving with and how much we love each other.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t think I’ve been able to tear myself away from this styled shoot from Anna Naphtali, Kathryn Godwin of Studio Cultivate, and Vintage Charlotte since I first laid eyes on it. With a tassel backdrop in varying shades of blue, vintage rugs, and a cake reminiscent of intricate henna designs, could you possibly blame me?

bohemian nouveau wedding with midnight blue - photo by Anna Naphtali http://ruffledblog.com/bohemian-nouvea-wedding-with-midnight-blue

From Amy Herman of Vintage Charlotte: An obsession with antique rugs lead to this glamorous twist on bohemian decor. The rich dark blues and marsala create a sophisticated setting for the gold and white details of the table and the dress to elevated and glow. We allowed the details to evolve in a natural way, the invitations hint towards design elements from the antique rugs and the cake is iced with the intricate lace pattern from the dress.

North Carolina Wedding Sourced from Antique Shops

Romantic Weddings

This right here is a wedding after our own hearts. Andrea and Joseph, the very talented duo behind Connection Photography, exchanged their own vows in the heart of North Carolina with their friend and fellow photographer Kelly Maughan Photography behind the camera. The couple collected endless amounts of beautiful antique decor to display throughout the wedding day, so let’s get started!

From the bride, Andrea: As wedding photographers ourselves we see so many weddings and everyone would constantly say “You must know exactly what you want for your wedding!” But it was completely opposite. We knew for sure all the things we did NOT want on our wedding day but everything else we just kind of decided along the way. I’m from Ohio and Joseph is from North Carolina so we wanted to incorporate that in our wedding somehow so we used our state shapes for decoration on invites and menus. We spent hours walking through dozens of antique stores picking out gold and cream colored vases, tins and accessories to use for centerpieces. Then when we had countless boxes filled we spent a few nights setting up each table the way we wanted it to look and taking pictures. Joseph’s aunt was also our florist so it helped that she could bring flowers over to see what we liked and didn’t like.

3 weeks before our wedding we were wondering through an antique store and found our gold backdrop for the ceremony! It was sooo big and heavy that I had to ride 2 hours home in the backseat because it would only fit in the car with the front passenger side seat down! Joseph built a lot of things too. He built our cake table, the arbor that went over it, our head table and the bar sign out of an old mattress spring, lights and a custom sign we made. Everything just seemed to fall into place. We had tons of family and friends from North Carolina and from out of town who came and helped set everything up and without them it wouldn’t have been possible! They were amazing!

I think our favorite part of the day was our first look when we could finally see each other and all the stresses of the wedding day just melted away. It was so nice too because we knocked out all the pictures we wanted before the ceremony and it calmed the nerves! We also loved having our friends shoot our wedding. It made it so easy to just be ourselves. Also, our reception was a blast! We had the Band of Oz and danced and laughed and just really enjoyed each other and our friends and family during the reception!

Romantic Garden Wedding in North Carolina

Romantic Weddings

If ever there were a wedding that perfectly encapsulated “elegant rustic,” it would be this beauty from Connection Photography. Fusing glam details with good old fashioned southern charm, Mary Margaret and Michael’s wedding was nothing short of memorable for their truly once-in-a-lifetime event.

From the bride, Mary Margaret: Fearrington Village absolutely exudes southern hospitality and rustic elegance. In choosing a style and feeling for our once in a lifetime event, my husband and I, both natives of North Carolina, envisioned a southern wedding as unique and exceptional as Fearrington Village itself. Above all, a truly memorable and fun celebration with our closest friends and families was at the top of our wish list.

Flower recipe: Boronia heather, garden roses, amaranthus, ranunculus, hypericum, clematis, anemone, astrantia, dahlias, celosia, lisianthus, rosehips, pepperberry, and veronica.

Overall, our wedding could be described as rustic, elegant, bold, romantic, and whimsical. In combination with the charming and naturally graceful backdrop that Fearrington Village provided, our primary inspiration for the color scheme began with the bridesmaids dresses, fashioned from a luscious and bold floral brocade in shades of pink, purple, and red, with gold stitching throughout. This romantic botanical motif in rich berry hues, along with touches of sparkling gold, were incorporated in every aspect of the wedding, and provided an unexpected and refreshing divergence from the more prevalent colors of Fall in North Carolina. The undeniably talented owner/designer of the bespoke paper boutique, Indigo and Company (and one of my bridesmaids!), further translated this theme into custom invitations, ceremony programs, and dinner menus.

Another more subtle motif carried throughout the day was that of a moon and stars. This was illustrated in our ceremony recessional, “Starlight” by Muse, our first dance song, “Fly Me to the Moon” by Frank Sinatra, our cake topper, and a giant glittering gold half crescent moon made out of wood that guests could actually sit on for photo opportunities during the reception. In fact, the idea for the giant moon originated from a much-loved vintage image of my grandparents as young adults posing on such a moon, as was common in the first half of the 20th century. Displayed alongside the photo booth, the timeless image of my grandparents gave a nostalgic nod to the past, while the new moon allowed for the formation of fresh memories with family and friends.

Any advice for couples planning their wedding now? Plan ahead! When the official wedding date is first set, it may feel like a lifetime away, and that there is an endless amount of time to plan. This period of time is the most ideal in which to go ahead a start considering caterers, musicians, photographers, and any other big ticket vendors, as many of these folks become entirely booked a year or more in advance. Make the effort to do the research while there are still plenty of fish in the sea to choose from, then go ahead and pull the trigger! Chances are, you will still be thrilled with these decisions on the day of the wedding if you are staying true to yourself and your vision. Another piece of advice – be as flexible as warranted for any given situation that does not go exactly as planned (because nothing ever goes exactly as planned!), and always have a backup strategy up your sleeve. Make a valiant effort to remain calm and level-headed about circumstances that cannot be controlled, such as the weather. Our wedding day was undoubtedly gloomy and uncharacteristically chilly for the time of year. Because of the dreadful weather, however, we had the ability to serve hot apple cider and enjoy a real wood fire in the stone fireplace during the ceremony without fear of broiling our guests. Furthermore, use was actually made of the tonal pashminas provided to each guest in order to “have and to hold, and shelter them from the cold.” Sometimes, the silver lining to an undesirable situation turns out to be even more fabulous than if the original plan had gone off without a hitch.

Plum Winter Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

As the days get chillier and chillier, we’ve got this cozy styled shoot from Casey Hendrickson Photography and Chelish Moore Flowers to warm us right up. This shoot has a bit of everything, from lush floral arrangements to warm winter drinks to an absolutely show-stopping wedding cake decorated with the poetry of ee cummings. It’s an absolutely perfect woodland scene with just enough bright colors to keep things feminine and cheery.

From the photographer, Casey Hendrickson: With winter starting, I wanted to capture a love filled with beautiful natural and warming details. The colors I chose were gold, plum, with pinks added in. We used classic vintage china with these colors along with plum napkins folded in. I topped the table with a lamb skin along with antlers as well as gold painted pinecones for a natural approach as well as natural wood table and antique chairs.

Our bride stayed warm with a gorgeous mink shrug and of course the arms of her groom! The signature drink was Irish cream coffee set up with a coffee bar, and had all the fixings for whatever you desire to add. The cake is one of my favorite parts though! Ines styled the plum cake with E. E. Cummings’s poem, “I carry your heart”, written in gold along the cake, and topped with the same florals and natural elements featured on the table.

Sweet North Carolina Elopement

Elopements

Photos by:

Boonetown Story

We always love a good elopement, and when it’s in the mountains of North Carolina, who can resist? Kayleigh and Bryson set out to exchange vows on top of a grassy, romantic, elevated location, and picked the exact site for their ceremony only the day before. We have to say it worked out pretty well though, especially thanks to the floral design from Philosophy Flowers and the wonderful images from Boonetown Story!

Overcast North Carolina Elopement - photo by Boonetown Story http://ruffledblog.com/overcast-north-carolina-elopement

From the bride, Kayleigh: The more I began looking at wedding styles, the more I realized that I was drawn more towards soft, natural motifs, with bright colors. I always knew I wanted a lace dress, and that I did not want a strapless dress, so I was very excited to see all the beautiful dresses which featured sleeves. In a faux wedding spread I saw a bridal model wearing a gold belt instead of a silver one, and I was completely sold on the idea. I also realized early on that I did not want to wear heels for a mountain wedding. It was actually ridiculously easy to find the perfect pair of blue boots. It took me a full year of organizing my Etsy favorites to actually buy any of my accessories, but my belt (with the gold leaf pattern) and our vow books were one of my favorite buys. The dress that I did my makeup in we found, no lie or exaggeration, for 60% off just a few days before we left for North Carolina. It was so perfect! Finding Bryson’s suit was also really fun. He would tell me things like, “I don’t want to wear black” and I would say, “I agree, I see you in blue”. We had this really fun brainstorming moment, which I think could only happen because our sense of style is so similar. We were both excited to find the perfect tweed tie on Etsy, for texture. I really pushed for his shoes too–when he put them on he was like, “Okay, yes, these are it.”

When Bryson and I envisioned our wedding, all we saw were Bryson and I on top of a mountain, saying our vows. It was quiet, and personal, and meaningful. Everything else–the style of it, was just fun. I’m so happy that it turned out exactly how we planned! I think what really stands out to me about our wedding was that it was just personal. Everything we wore, every place we went, it was all hand picked and hard won. The day before the wedding we had no idea where the service would take place. It was pouring down rain, and so Bryson and I hauled on our hiking boots and our rain gear and set off to hike the mountain trails. It wasn’t until we reached the bottom of the mountain that we started laughing–the perfect spot was only about a minute from the parking lot. It was an expansive mountainscape that, until that day, had been covered in fog. We were soaking wet, muddy, cold, worried about rain and fog for the day of our wedding, but we were just laughing that we had found it. We kept hugging, and kissing, and laughing. That’s personal. We also wrote our vows the day before the wedding, and I actually wrote some of our wedding service. Pastor Ronald Ramsey is such a sweet man, and his wife is wonderful as well. It was understandably pretty hard to find an officiant that would do a secular wedding service in the Carolina Mountains, so I am so thankful to them. By the end we were all crying. Our I do’s were, “With this ring, I pledge to trust you, support you, and laugh with you forever”.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My advice would be just to stick to your gut. Bryson and I always knew we wanted to elope, but when we got some push back from our families, we tried to make it work at home (in Florida). It was a disaster! We went through so many wedding locations, so many ideas, and all we kept thinking was, “This isn’t the mountains, this can’t even compare”. Finally we settled on a small, formal party at home before we left, and then the elopement by ourselves. It came together so fluidly and kindly once we realized what we wanted. So be honest with yourselves. Make sure your budget is smaller than the money in your savings account. Don’t buy any accessories early because your mind will change a thousand times. Be gracious when accepting money from others, but don’t expect it to happen until it’s in your hand. Utilize organizing websites like pinterest, but don’t get caught up in the rat-race. Be patient with your spouse when they don’t want to talk about wedding planning; but be real when you need them to step up and listen. And above all, take time to step away from all that and realize that the only important part of this wedding is the two of you. The day after, I promise you, you’ll feel as if relief and calmness are flooding through every pore, and when you remember all the stress you put into this wedding, you’ll feel like you finally discovered the punch-line to the longest joke ever told.

Wedding Music:
We didn’t really have any music, but the day before our wedding we were in the cabin’s kitchen, cooking our wedding dinner (we made most of it early) and I told Bryson, “I have a song that makes me think of how much I love you, and it makes me cry”. We don’t share musical taste, but he laughed and said to put it on. I told him, “It’s called ‘The Devil’s Tears’,” and he laughed again and said, “What kind of love song is that?!” But as it played we started to dance, and as it played, tears streamed down both of our faces. It was a beautiful moment. We call that our First Dance.
“Some call love a curse, some call love a thief,
But she’s my home”

Elegant Rainy Day Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Teale Photography

What’s a wedding without a bit of rain for good luck? Some late summer showers were in store for Lindsey and Cameron’s wedding day, but the pair didn’t let it dampen their excitement in the slightest. Of course, it likely helped that they had an amazing team of vendors by their side – including Teale Photography, Marilisa Schachinger with Chancey Charm, and Amy Osaba, who made this dream day something special to remember for always.

From the bride, Lindsey: When we began wedding planning I knew I wanted two things: I wanted tons of greens with vivid flowers and I wanted a wedding that showed God’s grace and faithfulness in Cam and my relationship. My flowers were my most important factor in my wedding budget. I knew I wanted to use Amy Osaba long before I was engaged. She is brilliant! I wanted to stay away from the blush tones that have been used so often lately. It is absolutely stunning, but I wanted something different, joyful, whimsical, romantic, and fun! Our wonderful planner, Marilisa Schachinger and Amy Osaba along with Tracy at Crush Rentals worked together to perfectly piece together my dream style!! The entire day felt like we were in a beautiful secret garden.

While I would never wish it to rain on someone’s wedding day, it makes for the most romantic, beautiful pictures! It poured on our wedding day up until our ceremony. It literally stopped raining as I began to walk down the aisle! I had always said I would not want it to rain on our wedding day, but if it did, I would not allow it to take away from the meaning of the day. I held to that the entire day, and I can honestly say it did not even phase me in the slightest. After all, it’s supposed to be a blessing to have rain on your wedding day right? I feel that the rain added to the secret garden feel that I LOVED for our wedding!!

Cam and I are high school sweethearts. We began dating the last day of school my freshman year of high school. We have learned so incredibly much from our relationship and grown together over the years. We have seen the Lord work in such amazing ways in our lives and in each others lives. God is faithful; God is good. These are the things we wanted displayed and remembered most about our wedding. We incorporated our beliefs by having worship music played, paying together (without Cam seeing me) before the wedding, have a moment of prayer during the ceremony with our closest family and friends, and receiving communion as the first thing we did as a married couple. One of my best friends, Allee, made our save the dates, invitations, programs, welcome signs, table numbers, decor signs, table and table assignment display. — needless to say she was a gem with all of her help!! We are so incredibly thankful for all she did for us!

Charlotte Botanical Gardens Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Richard Israel

If ever there was a wedding dress that made our jaws drop and stopped us in our tracks, it’s this one from Ship To Shore. The gown was worn to perfection by bride Adriana, who enlisted the talents of Richard Israel, The Graceful Host, and Chelish Moore to pull together an elegant and modern celebration with her beau, Terrell.

From the photographer, Richard Israel: Although Adriana was my client on wedding day we’ve worked together extensively over the last several years in the capacity of model and photographer on many editorial shoots. This wedding was a photographers dream… In addition to the fact that Adriana and Terrell are obviously an extremely good looking couple and the wedding so beautifully designed they placed their number one priority on insuring their family and friends had the best of times, good food great music, dancing, celebrating their heritages and not holding back on the love and emotion.

Southern Simplicity Wedding Ideas

Wedding Design

Photos by:

Crystal Stokes

Really, how could we keep ourselves from falling in love with this styled shoot? It’s got heaps of natural elements, a jaw-dropping woodland setting, gorgeous pinks and reds, and not to mention one of the yummiest cakes we’ve seen in a long time. Crystal Stokes Photography, The Graceful Host, and Springvine Design were the ideal team to put this wedding inspiration together, and they knocked it high and far out of the park.

From the event designer, Ashley of The Graceful Host: “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” – Leonardo da Vinci. It is this idea simplicity that inspired our team to craft an inspiration shoot that highlights the genuine beauty and ultimately, innate sophistication, of a wedding. I wanted to design a wedding that captured my idea “simplicity”, that is organically based, creative in style, and inspired by nature. I found a team that was equally as inspired by simplicity as I am. To all of us, nature exemplifies simplicity in every way, so you’ll see an emphasis on organic style through artistic expression. I started with a color palette inspired by nature – lush greens and earthy beige, with pops of color like rich burgundy and soft peach. And I’ve incorporated more natural elements into the design – raw leather to tie the flatware, linen napkins, an exposed wood table, and a driftwood ceremony arch.

Floral designer Springvine Design captured the beauty of nature in the way she layered floral textures to maintain a simple yet interesting artistic design. The table centerpiece is a vignette of vintage green glass pedestal vases, which compliment the green and amber glassware. She even created a beautiful floral chandelier from grapevine, silver dollar eucalyptus, red roses, spray roses and hand dyed dupioni silk with votive candles, suspended from the trees, that hung near the delicious cake display. The chandelier was an easy DIY project and added a touch of elegance to our backdrop. The bridal bouquet included anemones, ranunculus, succulents, blue thistle, austwater garden roses, red piano garden roses, Queen Ann’s Lace, white veronica, spray roses, peppermint geranium, and jasmine wrapped in hand dyed dupioni silk.

Being that Charlotte is a Southern city, we had to include some elements that speak to southern hospitality! I included a potted succulent favor with the inspiration being “love blossoming.” I also designed a welcome basket that would greet guests upon arrival to the wedding weekend and included within it a mini bottle of champagne, natural soap, a Rewined candle, and a lavender sachet. I wanted to put together a welcome package with simple items that would greet the senses and give guests a feeling of relaxation, just as beautiful landscapes often do.

As I’m sure you’ve caught on, the details of the design were very important and deliberate in thought. But, the most important detail of all is that of beauty. Brides who want to celebrate beauty always inspire me! And, I wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate the beauty of nature, of simplicity, of creativity, and most importantly, of love. It was important to our team that this shoot be approachable to brides, and show elements that can inspire brides to embrace simplicity within their own weddings. We also wanted to incorporate ideas that brides could easily duplicated within their own wedding, which is why I’ve referenced a few easy DIY elements – the signature drink, floral chandelier, and the hand-dyed dupioni silk to name a few.

Swansboro Backyard Wedding

DIY Weddings

Sometimes you just can’t beat the intimacy of a backyard wedding – especially when it’s captured by the talented Jenna Trapasso of Red White & Green Photography. They’re all the more irresistible when filled with handmade goods by the bride herself, who has her own etsy shop. Let’s jump in:

From the bride, Heather: I knew I wanted our wedding to feel like just that… ours. From day 1, I knew I didn’t want to do anything just because it was traditional or expected… I wanted it to be a representation of us individually as well as a couple. Garrett and his groomsmen had their favorite superheroes pinned in their boutonnieres. All the decor aside from our flags and our cake topper were either designed and handmade by me over the course of our year and a half engagement or were vintage pieces I’ve collected since I was little.

It was a fairly small wedding of our closest family and friends. We were married in Garrett’s Grandmother’s backyard on the water in Cedar Point, NC. There was an 80% chance of rain the whole day and the rain never came. It made for a beautiful “gray day” as my photographer called it and everything just fell perfectly into place. Garrett’s brother became ordained online so that he could marry us. Everything just felt so intimate and nothing felt forced. I had so many people tell us how much the whole day screamed “us” and how much fun they had. I even had several people say it was the best wedding they had ever been to… can’t ask for much more than that! I can honestly say it was the best day of our lives.

I’ve always been a lover of vintage decor, clothing, furniture, etc. 90% of the decor in my house is vintage so I was able to use a lot of my own collection to decorate the wedding. The rest of the decor I designed and crafted myself with the exception of our flags hanging in the tent and our cake topper. Those items I ordered from some very talented artists on etsy. Working full time, I spent a lot of nights and weekends for a year and a half tackling dozens of DIY projects from the invitations, to the cupcake toppers, to the wedding signs and all things in between. Crafting and designing all the decor actually inspired me to open my own etsy shop 2 months before the wedding.

Our arbor was made by close family friends which ended up being so beautiful. I know that vintage-inspired weddings are so popular now that most of it is sort of “been there done that” so I really tried to make our wedding unique in its own little way. I think by incorporating personal touches like my collection of assorted salt and pepper shakers on all the tables, our ninja turtle peeking out under our tiny wedding cake, the straws I made with every guests’ name on the little flags, it really helped set the day apart from any other wedding you’d see on Pinterest.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My number 1 piece of advice is to stick to your guns with what you envision your wedding to be. It’s hard sometimes to not try to make others happy, but at the end of the day it is your wedding and if you’re lucky, you only get married once. Try to let the groom have his piece of the wedding too… It was so fun to see Garrett’s nerdy touches and my vintage style mix together to create a ceremony and reception that was truly and uniquely our own. No one could have left there saying that we didn’t stay true to our style and personality. Most importantly, have fun! Don’t let all the stress take away from what the day is about… marrying the love of your life. I let others do the stressing for me. Also, another thing I’ve noticed at weddings these days is the toasts are often skipped. One of my favorite and most memorable parts of the whole day was when our family and friends got up at the reception and told stories and talked about how perfect Garrett and I were for each other. We all laughed and cried and it was so special to see how happy everyone was for us.

Wedding Music:
Our ceremony music was played by a wonderful violinist. I found the sheet music for some of our favorite songs and even though probably only a handful of guests knew what songs they were, Garrett and I knew what they were which was all that really mattered.
Pre-ceremony Songs: “Grow Old With Me,” John Lennon; “I’ll Be Seeing You,” Frank Sinatra; “When I Fall In Love,” Nat King Cole; “No One’s Gonna Love You More,” Band of Horses
Bridal Party Processional: “Somebody Loved,” The Weepies
Bride’s Processional: “The Book of Love,” Magnetic Fields
Recessional: “Friday I’m In Love,” The Cure
Our first dance song (which was also our processional song) was “Somebody Loved” by the Weepies. It’s been “our” song ever since we first started dating so it naturally had to be the first song we danced to as husband and wife.
