Glamorous Old World Wedding Inspiration

It’s nearly impossible to pick just one place to start with this styled shoot from Whitney Nichols Photography (who also took care of all the floral arrangements), but right at the top is the scene-stealing gown by Anna Campbell. As the title suggests, it fuses the Old World era with the most romantic glam style. Let’s get a little moody:

Vintage Inspired Multicultural Wedding in Palisades, NY

Vintage Weddings

In all my years in the wedding world, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a love quite like Sulome and Jeremy’s. The couple’s relationship was chronicled in various news articles, making an impact for their respective Jewish and Arab backgrounds. Cultural expectations were no match for their love, and the couple finally tied the knot in a Great Gatsby meets Steampunk celebration. Thank you to the talented team of Chellise Michael Photography, Jove Meyer Events, and Hops Petunia for bringing it all together!

Are you ready to be wowed by a couple with so much style it almost hurts just to look at them? Because that’s Jackie and Joe, who wore an impeccable lace gown with pink heels and gray suit with a stylish tie, respectively. Pat Furey photographed every moment of their exciting day at 501 Union, and every floral arrangement was lovingly put together by The Mini Rose. Buckle in, because this one’s a doozy!

Jackson Pollock Inspired Wedding Editorial

Wedding Design

There’s nothing that says “modern” quite like a Jackson Pollock painting. The artist’s drip-style of painting is quite well-known and with the surge of modern wedding trends, we knew this Pollock-style splatter look would make its way in! Mikkel Paige Photography captured the lovely images from this Pollock-inspired wedding shoot and they are brilliant. With a team of vendors like Color Pop Events and Blade Floral and Event Designs, it’s no wonder this wedding editorial turned into a funky and fun minimalist playground!

modern wedding ideas - http://ruffledblog.com/jackson-pollock-inspired-wedding-editorial

From the photographer, Mikkel Paige Photography: Dobbin St is the hottest new venue in New York City, located in a very trendy area of Brooklyn on in Williamsburg. Wanting to be amongst the first vendors and “wedding” in the space that opened just two months ago, this very talented team of popular NYC vendors came together to create this Jackson Pollock inspired, vibrant inspirational shoot.

The color palette was chosen to play off the already amazing curated art and colors in the venue: black and white with pops of yellow, mauve, green and blue (“Yves Klein blue” particularly on the front exterior statement wall, a color first mixed by this famous artist around 1960.) Everything in the shoot played off those colors, with an addition of Pollock-like splatter paint throughout particularly on the dinner plates, cake and guest book paper. Two other well known artists are highlighted at the venue including Christine Gedeon who created the mural on the back wall out of tape, inspired by an aerial view and side view of the Manhattan/Brooklyn landscape as seen from the venue’s rooftop, and custom wallpaper by Brooklyn native Sarah Merenda. A blue sequin tablecloth, pink boutonnieres and bouquets, an incredible stationery suite custom designed for the shoot by Bliss and Bone, and a stunning Hayley Paige gown all contribute to this absolutely outstanding wedding shoot.

Modern New York Wedding at 501 Union

Romantic Weddings

Today, we’re serving up another stunner and this time, we’re heading to New York to feature this modern and sophisticated beaut, all documented by Koman Photography. It’s got heaps of traditional wedding elements like breathtaking bouquets by Edelweiss Floral Atelier that you couldn’t even imagine and on-point sartorial choices by a trendy wedding party, but 501 Union‘s vintage look adds in a dash of elegance to this wedding.

gold balloons - photo by Koman Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-new-york-wedding-at-501-union

From the bride, Joohee: Pablo and I both knew we wanted to keep our wedding close to our home, friends, and family in New York City. After some brief web surfing, I came across 501 Union in Brooklyn, and immediately upon viewing pictures, I knew in my heart that this was the perfect place for us. A week later, we signed for the venue at first sight. Having a background in art, in my eyes, the modern feel of the venue, the black and white walls, and the chic art deco wallpapers provided the ultimate canvas to host any type of wedding. We set our date for late September, and while fall in New York is beautiful, our summers seemingly feel shorter every year. Trying to extend summer a little longer, we decided on a romantic theme with pink and metallic colors, dreamy tulle, and plenty of pink flowers to lighten up and contrast the venue. The weather on our wedding day ended up amazing, so it actually felt like a perfect summer day.

My family owns a bakery called the Runcible Spoon Bakery, and after receiving a degree in art, I decided to take my artistic talents and apply them to the family business. Over the years, while learning to manage the business and to bake, I also taught myself how to decorate cakes. It quickly became obvious that I would make my own wedding cake. Eventually, I also decided to cater all of the desserts for our wedding by creating an entire dessert bar. I must admit, baking hundreds of macarons, cake pops, and hand decorated cookies, on top of making a wedding cake and planning a wedding, was truly a labor of love.

Our entire day was magical – everything went exactly the way we had envisioned and hoped for the year leading up to it. The saddest part of the day was when it was all over. All of the planning, stressing, and, in my case, baking was so worth it in the end. After the day just flew by and our guests were leaving, I remember turning to Pablo and saying, “Aw – let’s do that again.” It was a good thing we planned an after party! When it came to picking vendors, we were blessed to have found a team with a creative vision that we could place all our trust in to capture our day. Pablo and I still constantly find ourselves looking through our wedding photos, because even though the day has gone, those pictures and video still live on and remind us of the best day of our lives – the end of our beginning.

Stylish Greenpoint Loft Wedding

Modern Weddings

Seeing weddings break the mold and step outside of the box is a lovely and welcome thing. When we get served up a dish of unique wedding details with a stunning couple to boot, it reinvigorates us. Abby and Jeremy not only brought the industrial style to their Brooklyn wedding; they incorporated one-of-a-kind wedding details and florals by Wyld that were snapped by Shannon and Elena for Amber Gress Photography that we absolutely adore.

modern wedding fashion - photos by Shannon Roddy and Elena Mudd for Amber Gress Photography http://ruffledblog.com/stylish-greenpoint-loft-wedding

From the bride, Abby: We knew that we wanted to get married in Brooklyn (where we met), but we wanted an unconventional event space. Something that felt like our experience of Brooklyn—artsy, approachable, maybe even a little gritty. When we stepped into The Greenpoint Loft we fell in love instantly. It was the perfect mix of urban and industrial with huge potential and freedom for anything we wanted to create. In all honesty, it just felt like a really cool yet unpretentious place where we could party hard with all our best buds.

Central Park Cherry Blossom Bridal Shoot

Wedding Design

Cherry blossoms have always been such wonderful blooms to look at. Being around only during certain times of the year adds to their darling appeal. When you live in a location that has clusters upon clusters of them during the warm months, it’s a must to get a bridal inspiration shoot together and that’s exactly what Brklyn View Photography did, luckily for us! Jainé enlisted the help of Wild Floral Designs and they headed out to Central Park to spend a day under the cherry blossom trees. They wanted to enhance the soft pink blooms, so a pink jewel toned color palette for the floral arrangements were chosen, along with very elegant gowns with embroidery that mimicked the surroundings. We’re just soaking up the loveliness of this whole shoot!

cherry blossom ideas - photo by Brklyn View Photography http://ruffledblog.com/central-park-cherry-blossom-shoot

From the photographer, Jainé of Brklyn View Photography: I’m delighted to share our pink inspired Cherry Blossom bridal inspiration shoot. This was photographed in NYC Central Park at the peak of the cherry blossoms – so pretty! We were inspired by pops of pink and bright berry colors with our floral design. Our bride had two outfit changes but we used the same dress and just swapped out the top/skirt with delicate separates to achieve two different looks.

She Got Scooped Up Bridal Shower

Wedding Design

No doubt about it, this bridal shower shoot is one of the most adorable shoots we’ve come across. Not only is it centered around ice cream (yum!), but the slogan “She Got Scooped Up” is creativity at its finest. Brklyn View Photography took the photos and snapped up all kind of saccharine goodness, literally and figuratively. Color Pop Events was the brainchild for the shoot and naturally, it was a delightful explosion of pastels. Erin Braun brought her expertise along and pulled together feminine floral centerpieces with soft pinks and dashes of lilac and white. If you’re on the hunt for a creative idea for a bridal party, this is it!

ice cream bridal party - photo by Brklyn View Photography http://ruffledblog.com/she-got-scooped-up-wedding-inspiration

From the event designer, Leah of Color Pop Events: The inspiration for this shoot presented itself over a year ago when Jackie of Sincerely, Jackie and I were prop shopping for a shoot she was doing at the time. We happened upon a shelf of vintage ice cream sundae glasses in an array of pastel colors, and we both immediately thought, we HAVE to do an ice cream theme styled shoot with sweetly fun, feminine details! Naturally, busy season arrived and the shoot idea was put on the back burner.

Buckle in, because we’re about to share the wedding of event and floral designer extraordinaire Juli Vaughn of Juli Vaughn Designs. With some planning expertise from Leah of Color Pop Events and the help of some of New York’s finest vendors, the wedding turned into a “color-filled, festive, whimsical event” in the bride’s own words. Thank you to Haley Sheffield for taking these wonderful images!

Bright + Modern NYC Wedding - photo by Haley Sheffield Photography event and floral design by Juli Vaughn Designs http://ruffledblog.com/bright-modern-NYC-wedding

From the bride, Juli: When Josh and I started planning our wedding, the first thing we realized was that we wanted all of our dearest friends present and involved and made to feel like our wedding was the most fun they’d ever had. It was the driving force in all of our details and all of our festivities. Because it was the second wedding for both of us, we chose to solely invite friends instead of family. We planned a weekend of events – Friday night tacos and karaoke instead of a rehearsal, morning yoga the day of the wedding to calm nerves and start the day off right, a double decker bus tour of NYC for the cocktail hour, and a pajama brunch at the hotel the day after the wedding.

The More We See

Right off the bat, I am going to fully confess I fell hard for this shoot cleverly done by The More We See and crafted together by Heart & Dash and Kate Farley Design. It tugged on the endearing heart strings of mine when I saw the first few pictures of the couple waking up together on their wedding day; no worries of “bad luck,” just a sweet and tender moment shared between them and a lovely breakfast of bagels, coffee, and those divine-looking rosemary grapefruit cocktails before heading out to get married. I am so smitten right now with how creative and darling this entire shoot is. Not to mention, there’s so many pin-worthy elements!

small wedding ideas - photo by The More We See http://ruffledblog.com/cedar-lake-estate-wedding-inspiration

From the event designers, Heart & Dash:
The big world of social media allows us to discover some pretty amazing people and places right from the comfort of our sofa. It was on one of my journeys down the rabbit hole that is Instagram that I discovered Cedar Lake Estate about a year ago. It took me all of two seconds to fall in love with the property. So when The More We See reached out to us recently to see if we’d be interested in working with them on a shoot, we pitched the idea of using Cedar Lake as our setting.

Lake House Bridal Inspiration

Wedding Design

We at Ruffled are unabashedly obsessed over gorgeous floral design (tag us #ruffledblooms with your dream-like florals!) and bridal story captured by Alexandra Elise Photography is one to gawk over and over. First, it’s set in a lake house and The Rowland House has such a neutral palette for this eclectic shoot to shine bright. The lake house creates such a great backdrop that contrasts just right to make the colors and itself stand out. Second, all of the colors are so vibrant and rich. The blending of the blues, greens, hints of reds and oranges were all done so effortlessly. And last but not least, would you take a look at the bloom styling by Stacy K Floral?

From the photographer, Alexandra Elise Photography: I recently photographed a styled bridal shoot at The Rowland House which is one of the Inns of Aurora. This styled shoot was a wonderful collaboration where each vendor truly drew inspiration from the gorgeous lake house. The Rowland House is filled with colorful and eclectic design pieces which you can directly see featured in the bouquet and paper goods. The eclectic theme carries through the unique tablescape, featuring a wide variety of citrus fruit. The aroma of the decor itself was amazing! We styled the shoot around simplistic, modern bridal looks because the house and the florals truly spoke for themselves.

Embroidery and Hand Stitching Wedding Inspiration

This is the most darling wedding inspiration yet, and we think it has something to do with all of the beautiful embroidery and handmade details strewn all over the chic New York City venue. It adds such a fun vintage touch and let’s talk about these color palettes! What an explosion of detail (I’m looking at you, reception tables) and I just love how all of these eclectic colors come together so well. Playful weddings like this are always so fun to fangirl over!

Downton Abbey Inspired Wedding

Vintage Weddings

Photos by:

Golden Hour Studios

Hello, self-professed “Downton Abbey” fan here, just thrilled over this beautiful wedding that landed in our inbox. I was immediately transported to the English countryside as I checked out the photos, and my ooh’s and ahh’s just couldn’t be contained. Amelia and Ari’s beautiful wedding shot by Golden Hour Studios had such a classic vintage feel, incorporating the timelessness of that “Downton” era. And let’s not forget those florals by Seasons A Floral Design Studio! The mix of deep berry tones with the lavender blooms amidst the grounds at Lyndhurst Castle is just such sight to love. A Downton Abbey inspired wedding indeed:

Downton Abbey Inspired Wedding

From the bride, Amelia: We wanted to get married in the Hudson River Valley, because we both grew up nearby water (Ari the Hudson River and Amelia the Great Lakes in MI) and it was close to our only living grandparent – 92-year-old grandmother of the groom. Ari and I met working in NYC, and shortly thereafter he was transferred to London. Ari became a fan of British style and I became a fan of Downton Abbey. The decor from the table settings to my hair (Lady Mary inspired fingerwaves) was inspired by the sophisticated style of the Edwardian Period in England. The cocktail hour featured Pimms Cup and tea sandwiches and the floral table arrangements included fresh fruits and vintage vases.

Prospect Park Boathouse Wedding

Modern Weddings

What I adore most about Indian weddings are the explosions of color. Everything that is mobile or stationary has some sort of beautiful fabric draped on it and I absolutely love weddings that aren’t afraid of implementing heaps and heaps of color. Laylah and David’s wedding mixes her vibrant Indian heritage with the history of The Boathouse in a fashion with such finesse that the lovely shades of blues and green used stands out so gorgeously. danfredo photos + films captured the day expertly and The Arrangement gave another wonderful nod to Laylah’s heritage by incorporating tropical florals in the table arrangement and sweetly, the inspiration directly came from the landscapes from the bride’s grandparents’ hometown.

Prospect Park Boathouse wedding - photo by danfredo photos + films http://ruffledblog.com/prospect-park-boathouse-wedding

From the bride, Laylah: It was important to us to represent David’s upbringing in Brooklyn and Laylah’s Indian heritage. Knowing that the venue was full of historic details, we wanted to tell our story with modern touches that drew upon our own personal histories. The color scheme was a mixed palette of deep blues and greens. Indigo, which was derived from the textiles of India, and varied hues of greens, which were derived from the venue.

Stylish Manhattan Wedding on a Rooftop

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Amber Gress

With a bright white room like 620 Loft and Garden as your backdrop, the possibilities are endless for your wedding. That’s exactly what Mary Alex and Keith dreamed up when they decided do say their I Do’s in Manhattan. Photographed by the talented Amber Gress, the duo kept their decor to sleek and simple modernity with some rustic elements tied in. Like those beautiful box planters brimming with ivory hydrangeas with succulents and pink rose buds nestled in or those butterfly escort cards. So sweet!

stylish Manhattan wedding - photo by Amber Gress Photography http://ruffledblog.com/stylish-manhattan-wedding

From the photographer, Amber Gress: Keith and Mary Alex live in Georgia, but knew they wanted to have a NYC wedding. Mary Alex is originally from Georgia, while Keith is from NYC, so they share a love of the big apple. They couldn’t have picked a more classically NYC venue than 620 Loft and Garden, right in the heart of it all. We made sure to make time for us to shoot at multiple locations, so we could capture an overview of them in the city. As you can see they are a gorgeous and super stylish couple, and we’re so excited to share this with you!

Stylish Williamsburg Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

Pat Furey

If ever there was a couple that exuded style from every pore, it’s today’s couple in this wedding from Pat Furey. The groom’s blue suit is sharp to a T, the bride’s bouquet by Fox Fodder Farm tied with an Hermès scarf is all kinds of chic, and her silk gown by Johanna Johnson is completely irresistible. Color us smitten.

stylish Williamsburg wedding - photo by Pat Furey http://ruffledblog.com/stylish-williamsburg-wedding

From the bride, Jackie: Mike and I both agreed we wanted a wedding that felt intimate, that felt very New York, that felt very relaxed, that was full of good food; we wanted to share an intimate moment with our nearest and dearest… and then let loose and really celebrate. We live in the East Village and just across the bridge in BK was the Wythe Hotel. They fit the bill with their gorgeous indoor/outdoor space complete with foliage, exposed brick, a huge beautiful bar and oodles of built in ambiance. Fall seemed perfect – golden leaves, a chill in the air and a dream of donning a leather jacket with my wedding dress. What we got was green leaves, unseasonably warm weather and a torrential downpour to tell the grandkids about. We couldn’t help but laugh about the ridiculousness of it all.

A theme isn’t really our thing. Colors on the other hand… Jewel tones are my jam. I love love love raspberry, maroon and deep pinks. Pair that with deep greens, shades of cream, off white, ecru and accents of gold and I am in absolute heaven. That being said, the color scheme really only pertained to our flowers and the place cards. Everyone has their own style and we wanted them to be able to wear what they wanted, what they felt good in.

I can’t remember the root of it, but I wanted dip dye place cards. Some places said beet juice, others said grape juice, some said cranberry juice. Don’t be fooled, when it comes down to dying thick card stock, you need dye. I bought two shades of RIT and got down to business. It was time consuming to say the least, but I loved the way they turned out. Mike hand wrote the names of each guest. Table Numbers: This might be a little offbeat for a wedding but we have a thing with skulls. Tattoos, ceramic skulls from Mexico, hand drawn ones, decoupage plates from John Derian – you name it, we have them. I wanted to subtly incorporate that into the wedding. We hand stamped a skeleton couple holding hands with a heart in between them on the envelope on our Save the Dates. Our invites had hand stamped and embossed skeleton couples dressed to the nines on the envelope. Our table cards each had a hand drawn skull courtesy of Mike. We were going to keep them all and frame them, but a few went mysteriously missing. =) I wanted signs but couldn’t figure out the best way to do it. We enlisted a very talented friend with some serious X-acto knife skills who cut each letter out by hand and and glued them onto printed paper. Some of them were even strung together into a tiny banner for our card basket. Bless her and her crafty skills.

Modern Botanical Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

The team behind today’s shoot, which includes Keira Lemonis Photography, Mary Elise Rees Event Design, and Dark + Diamond, was inspired by their invitation suite to create an urban greenhouse styled wedding. Then came lush greenery, shades of pink and purple, and a real-life couple so adorable our hearts just might explode!

modern botanical wedding inspiration - photo by Keira Lemonis Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-botanical-wedding-inspiration

From the even designer, Mary Elise Rees Event Design: Initially inspired by the invitation suite, “Artfully Ever After” from Wedding Paper Divas, I wanted to create a story around something lighthearted and modern. We also wanted to create a sort of urban greenhouse vibe that would be fun for couples getting married in the spring or summertime. We found the Lucas Confectionery in downtown Troy, which has a back-enclosed garden patio, complete with a glass rooftop. This venue lets in tons of natural light and has funky greens growing within its brick walls. Dark and Diamond created florals based around our greenhouse theme, as well as the fun color palette on the invitation. There is also an array of unique air plants scattered about the venue.

Charming Rustic Upstate Farm Wedding

Rustic Weddings

Photos by:

Elena Wolfe

When you pair a barn wedding venue with crystal chandeliers and twinkle string lighting, total magic happens. Jen and Chris, a college sweetheart couple, had a darling wedding with a soft color palette photographed by Elena Wolfe and coordinated by C + A Event Planning, who also took on the floral design.

From the bride, Jen: Chris and I are college sweethearts who fell in love on the campus of SUNY Binghamton. When we got engaged, we were two-young and free spirits, who just finished undergraduate and graduate school and were looking to start our professional careers. We waited two years before we decided to get married, and we couldn’t agree more with the saying, “Patience is a virtue and the best things in life are worth waiting for,” – Julia Spira.

Old Charm New York Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

There’s a lot to love about today’s styled shoot from Julia Elizabeth Photography, Polka Dot Events, and Rose Red and Lavender, but at the top of the list is how very “New York” the whole thing feels. Architectural elements, a chic nearly monochrome color palette, and a super stylish couple bright everything together for a shoot that encapsulates the best of both old and new New York.

old charm New York wedding inspiration - photo by Julia Elizabeth Photography http://ruffledblog.com/old-charm-new-york-wedding-inspiration

From Julia Elizabeth Photography: When Tracey Goldstein of Polka Dot Events and I first started discussing the feel for our shoot, we touched upon a growing trend with her clients requesting a wedding design that is inherently New York City without being too theme-y or outdated. Once we visited 190 North, a newly opened Williamsburg, Brooklyn venue with its modern Brooklyn architecture mixed with vintage New York accents, our vision of combining old and new came to life, hence the name “Old Charm, New York.”

We gathered some of our favorite NYC vendors and gave them a little background on our “couple”: Late 20s to early 30-something modern Brooklynites, throwing an intimate winter wedding at 190 North. They love how the space’s soft color palette and wainscoting plays off the industrial garage door windows and brick accent walls, and want to highlight these features with minimalist floral and décor that is both sophisticated and understated. Their color palette is dusty blue, gray, white with accents of gold and natural greenery. Then we let all the vendors do their thing! Park Slope’s Lion in the Sun custom designed the stationery suite with a Brooklyn map overlay sitting atop a simple cardstock designed with a nod to 190 North’s geometric door patterns and mix of modern and traditional fonts. The monogram was designed by Allison Steinfeld and the black envelopes were graced with white hand calligraphy by Laurel Hansen.

Stylist Allison Koehler dressed the bride in two Limor Rosen gowns that brought our her modern day edge while still holding onto a classic bridal look. First a romantic low back dress with a long lace train for the ceremony, followed by a playful beaded silk gown for the reception. Her hair and makeup was styled natural and soft by Stacey and Gabby of Once Upon a Bride and all the jewelry and rings were supplied by Mociun in Williamsburg. Not to be outdone, the groom wore a midnight blue tuxedo from The Black Tux. Our florist Rose, Red and Lavender created an asymmetrical sculptural backdrop for the ceremony made from greenery and gold leaf accents. The same look was carried into the bride’s simple posy bouquet, and combined with white flora and succulents. Post-ceremony, we took photographs in front of the classic 1969 Checker Taxicab from FilmCars and amongst the beautifully refurbished vintage chairs by Jessica Allyn.

Our vision for the tablescape was simple yet edgy. We selected metal frame barn tables and gunmetal tolix chairs from Broadway Party Rentals, and we dressed them with a dusty blue satin runner, black and white coup china, crystal stemware and a mix of ultra-modern and ornate gold flatware. For the tablescape we used geometric gold candleholders and simple white roses in bud vases from RRL. Dish Food & Events created the gorgeous (and delicious) charcuterie spread. And what’s a wedding without a yummy dessert bar? Our adorable simple cake designed by Luckybird Bakes was the perfect compliment to the incredible dessert corner by Erin Emmett of Sweet Pistachio. We’re so proud of all the talented New York City vendors we were able to bring together to create such a sought after look. Thank you for helping us bring the vision to life!

Vintage Romantic Wedding at the Metropolitan Building

Elegant Weddings

Photos by:

Lev Kuperman

Lovers of vintage glam romance, this one’s for you. Lev Kuperman captured Foster and Marc’s incredible wedding day at Long Island City’s Metropolitan Building, a long-time favorite venue for those who appreciate a bit of Old World charm. Throw in some retro inspired paper goods, a show-stopping Jenny Packham gown, and one heck of a dance party and you’ve got this memorable celebration!

vintage romance wedding at the Metropolitan Building - photo by Lev Kuperman http://ruffledblog.com/vintage-romantic-wedding-at-the-metropolitan-building

From the bride, Foster: Our style was vintage and romantic. We wanted the night to feel enchanted and magical yet warm and comfortable. We steered away from the “rustic” elements such as mason jars because they tend to err on the side of “cute.” We sourced and collected all of the brass candle stick holders and medicine/apothecary flower vases to include table centerpieces and design elements throughout the space. My sister, who is an amazing graphic designer, designed the dinner menus and some of the signage (signature cocktail and welcome sign).

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Try not to let the little details become bigger than they are. Sometimes we found ourselves focusing too much on the minute details (and to be honest, no one even notices the little things). You can let these things go without sacrificing your overall vision. On the day, the outcome of some elements may not be exactly what you expected but it will all be beautiful and magical. Basically, don’t sweat the small stuff.

Farm to Table Upstate NY Wedding

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

Pat Furey

The amount of love we have for this wedding is out of this galaxy. Using farm to table elements for a rustic yet completely stylish and relaxed look, Ben and Dennis’ wedding wins us over at every glance. Of course, the images captured all too well by Pat Furey don’t hurt either!

farm to table upstate NY wedding - photo by Pat Furey http://ruffledblog.com/farm-to-table-upstate-ny-wedding

From the groom, Ben: We were going for simple, masculine upstate elegance. We wanted natural earth tones; we avoided flowers altogether and focused on foliage and natural elements that would add texture; my favorite were the dried sunflowers that had been left in the field to dry for use at our wedding — they were odd but stunning…

I worked with the florist to design and make the table centerpieces; I found the lanterns over the summer at Target and ordered enough for use at the wedding. There were two sizes and the larger flanked our bars and our DJ table. We also used them to line our driveway for our dinner event on Friday evening before the wedding. We had valet at the top of our drive and folks walked down the candlelit drive to arrive at our home where a tent was in the backyard for our Friday evening arrival dinner and bonfire.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Have fun with it. There are no rules that you cannot break. Think outside the box (or mason jar as I joked with Kim at Flower Blossom Farm). And use your wedding as an excuse to try new arrangements, visit stores and day dream about ideas, try new foods, taste new drinks.
