Fall Wedding Inspiration with Jewel Tones

Wedding Design

Just in time for delightful fall weather, Ashlee Mintz Photography graces us with this equally-delightful bridal inspiration. Designed by Arielle Fera Events, the shoot is set in a lovely moody color palette with the prettiest shades of seasonal colors outside of the norm of oranges and browns, like cool plums, charcoal grey, and navy blue. Lightening up the wedding editorial are the exceptional dresses in neutral shades to die for. Let’s not forget about the insanely-good arrangements by Allium Floral Design; from the wedding centerpieces to the bouquets, the floral designs were one of the many cherries on top of this wedding shoot!

From the photographer, Ashlee Mintz Photography: Collaborating with Arielle Fera Events to bring this dark moody vision to life led to the most beautiful, gothic, and romantic wedding inspiration. This shoot has a lot of different elements/details, from the lush floral tablescape to the cabbage that lies under a marble name card. The palette included rich, deep tones of purples, blacks, charcoals, and blues. These jewel tones evoked the most magical setting for a stunning bride and her bridesmaids.

Garden High School Sweetheart Wedding

Garden Weddings

In our line of work, it never fails to warm our souls when we come across high school sweethearts. Newlyweds Chasni and Joshua couldn’t stop themselves from filling the day with little inside jokes, nods to their love for each other, and of course gorgeous visual treats for the guests in the form of the venue’s incredible Spanish moss. And did we mention Chasni’s Amsale wedding gown? Pinch me. Thank you to Virginia Ann Photography and Razzle Dazzle Event Decorating for your wonderful work on this day!

Garden High School Sweetheart Wedding

From the bride, Chasni: Of course when you start planning your wedding you want everything and Pinterest can definitely be at fault for that – LOL. I feel like the style I envisioned for our wedding was a mix between a shabby chic look along with boho touches here and there.

If I could best describe the look of our wedding I would say whimsical, elegant, and romantic. We didn’t have a theme but our color scheme was soft pinks, golds and ivory with touches of greenery everywhere! Oh and I’m such a DIY type of person, so with the help of my mother (and a few other family members) we tackled quite a few DIY projects throughout the wedding planning process. Some of the DIY projects included the wedding programs, our welcome sign, wedding invitations, the outdoor games – rings toss and cornhole boards, my bridal party’s jewelry – I made their necklaces and bracelets, “Here Comes the Bride” sign, my something blue keepsake garter with lace from my mothers wedding dress, and the list just goes on. My Dad is amazing and also helped with our DIY projects. He made me a palette coffee table that we used outdoors with a few other furniture pieces and it turned out great!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Start early! The earlier the better, I’m one of those brides that did everything early and it really helped me out as we got closer to the wedding. I got so many things out of the way, even the small things you tend to forget about. For instance, parents gifts, bridal party gifts, wedding jewelry and accessories. I even started buying a lot of my wedding decor early on. I started grabbing those things about a year before the wedding and even throughout the planning. So, when I started to get organized and pull out everything from storage a few weeks before the wedding, I realized I had so many decorations and I was able use them all over the wedding venue! It was perfect.

Wedding Music:
Prelude: “All of Me,” John Legend; “You and Me,” Lifehouse; “Stay With Me,” Sam Smith
Processional: “Marry Me,” Train
First Dance: “Thinking Out Loud,” Ed Sheeran; “Island Girl,” Tribal Seed

From the photographer, Virginia Ann Photography: Chasni and Josh are high school sweet hearts which meant their day was full of so many “I know you so well” touches. From their gifts to each other at the beginning of the day, a pair of sunglasses for her since she loves the beach and an awesome watch for him since fashion is so much a part of his line of work as a stylist, to the little looks and laughs from inside jokes they kept whispering to each other during portrait time. Their bond was so clear. The venue, The Ranch at San Patricio, couldn’t have been more idyllic, full Spanish moss covered oaks swaying in the breeze surrounding the little white chapel with the sound of the water trickling by from the small brook just behind. Their color palette of blush, gold, and pops of navy made for a classic strong look against the organic green background. All eyes were on Chasni as she walked the aisle in her stunning Amsale bridal gown to her groom. This day was one for the books!

Tuscan Inspired Terrain Wedding

Garden Weddings

A wedding inspired by Mediterranean colors at Terrain is always a good thing and in the case of Phoebe and Tim’s wedding, it’s a great thing. Ali & Paul Co. were the maestros behind the camera for their big day, catching shots of the organic-colored, Sicily-inspired wedding day. The deep and rich hues from this wedding are a match made in heaven with the venue, to say the least, and Katie Rebecca Events worked wonders to fuse everything together so effortlessly! Weddings like these are certainly a few of our favorite things.

Terrain wedding

From the bride, Phoebe: I always wanted something that was lush with greenery and botanicals. Tim’s grandfather came from Sicily, so we wanted to capture some of that feel, with the ash-green leaves and oranges. I love the juxtaposition of masculine hues with touches of light, feminine colors, so the palette of dark emerald, navy, apricot, and cream worked perfectly. I showed Katie, our wedding planner, some ideas of things I liked, but then she took those ideas and ran with them — and produced something amazing! We gave her style guidelines, but in the end, we trusted her eye and her expertise and gave free reign to her to create and pull together all the details.

Tim and I both have a sibling that was not part of the direct wedding party. However, my brother and Tim’s sister are very important to us, so we wanted to include them in a very special way. They not only read passages during the ceremony, but they also gave speeches, in addition to our maid of honor/best man, in lieu of traditional parent/family speeches. My brother’s speech was unexpectedly laugh-out-loud hilarious and the big hit of the night! Also crazy is the story of my wedding cake: Several years ago, I was a food editor for Cooking Light magazine. I’m very picky about my desserts, so my dear, dear ex-coworker Deb (who is an amazing pastry chef) handmade the personal coconut cake and shipped it to us overnight from Birmingham, AL!

The hanging florals Terrain created for the reception were amazing! I also loved my bouquet — it was so heavy because of just how full Terrain’s floral design team packed it! It’s hard to narrow it down, but I have to also mention the tables/place settings. The napkins + goblets + gold flatware + candles + foliage and oranges was everything that I was hoping for. Katie of Katie Rebecca Events and her team totally delivered.

I think the best moments were when you KNEW you made the right choice because they just GET you. This was especially true when talking to our ceremony vendors. Our officiant, Donna, really wanted to tell our story and write a custom ceremony that was very personal, which was exactly what I had always hoped for. I wanted the ceremony music to be very us, which wasn’t the traditional songs or hymns but also nothing dance-down-the-aisle crazy either! Our musicians, Shawn and Sharon, made the perfect suggestions right away. I fell in love with their rendition of Bob Dylan/Adele’s “To Make You Feel My Love” as soon as I heard it — gave me goosebumps!

Tim and I did a first look. In the nearly 9 years we’ve been together, I’ve barely seen Tim get emotional. He did when he turned around and saw me. It’s funny — I cry a lot at my friends’ weddings, but I didn’t even shed a tear at mine… just lots of laughter! Tim and I are not dancers, so we took classes, like many couples. We only were able to make it to two classes, though, so we were very worried we were going to mess up the steps, even though it wasn’t a true choreographed dance (it was just the rumba). So after photos, while our guests were still at cocktail hour, we snuck into the reception area and practiced like crazy, haha. Lastly, I didn’t expect our father/daughter or mother/son dances to be so emotional. I kept cracking jokes so my dad wouldn’t be too sad. He’s pretty stoic in person.

From the photographers, Ali & Paul Co.Tim & Phoebe wanted a Tuscan inspired wedding surrounded by their closest friends and family. They shared 8 years together and finally planned the wedding of their dreams, thanks to the help of wedding planner, Katie Rebecca. They tied together her favorite color palette of navy, emerald and apricot and created a dreamy reception space filled with citrus and olive leaves. From hand painted wedding invitations, floral creations by Terrain, and mini bottles of Limoncello with custom watercolor and calligraphy tags in place of a seating chart, the details pulled everything together perfectly!

Romantic Costa Rican Seaside Wedding

Modern Weddings

We’re heading to the luxe Costa Rican seaside with today’s wedding by Chloe Murdoch Photography and it is certifiably what we would want our Costa Rican destination wedding to look like, hands down. Tropical Occasions took Gillian and Anthony’s wedding vision and made it come to life in this glorious tropical setting. Stylos y Flores was inspired by the warm weather and the pretty colors to be found everywhere, and this translated into the bouquets and the colorful rose centerpieces. After checking this wedding out, let’s all head to Costa Rica!

colorful Costa Rican wedding - photo by Chloe Murdoch Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-costa-rica-wedding

From the bride, Gillian: I wanted the wedding to be beachy elegant with a Costa Rican flair. I’m a huge beach, warm weather person so I always wanted a beach wedding where it stays warm all night, is all outdoors and there isn’t a time or noise limit on when it had to end. And for Anthony, he wanted there to be an amazing dance party dj’d by our good friend who came all the way from Berlin with delicious drinks flowing! We are also both huge foodies so we wanted delicious, fresh Costa Rican cuisine as well! Costa Rica is a really special place to us. My family has a home there and Anthony and I have vacationed there together a lot. It truly feels like a home away from home and a culture we love so much. When Anthony proposed, we immediately knew we wanted to get married at the Reserva Conchal beach club and didn’t look at any other venues!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Destination weddings are an amazing way to elongate your wedding! Instead of 1 night or a weekend with our guests, we were able to spend a full week with most guests! For a destination wedding – hire a great wedding planner who you trust understands your style. Having a language barrier and working with vendors who don’t have good websites or portfolios was stressful. I really had to trust that if my planner recommended them then they would be good. We showed up not knowing exactly what to expect and she truly made our vision come to life! There were definitely some details that were slightly off and a few things that didn’t go exactly as planned but I was really the only one to notice. Don’t sweat the small stuff, mistakes will happen but don’t let it ruin the night!!

Wedding Music:
Processional: Perfidia (we wanted some Spanish flair!)
Recessional: “Here Comes the Sun,” The Beatles
First Dance: “You Are the Best Thing,” Ray LaMontagne
Mariachi: We had mariachis lead the way from the ceremony to the cocktail hour and played for about 10 minutes there before the classical group started back up and finished out that hour.

Dance party music: Upbeat mix of old school, the classics and present day hits designed to keep the party going until the last note. We never wanted people to feel like they could leave the dance floor without missing one of their favorite songs. Let’s just say our dance floor was packed all night long! Our first song after our first dance, the father/daughter and the mother/son dance included a riff from Lil Wayne’s remix of the Black Eyed Peas single, “I Gotta Feeling,” which started with Lil Wayne saying “Party on the beach…” repeatedly. :)

Romantic Wedding Shoot Turned Proposal

Wedding Design

When we receive a beautiful shoot like this one from Courtney Leigh Photography, we know we’re already in for a treat. In this editorial, Chalie and Andrew were surrounded by lush, woodsy elements that were enhanced through Blush and Vine‘s lovely bouquets and floral arrangements, along with the dreamy tablescape by Jade Magnolia. As we dove more into it, we found out that this wedding inspiration turned into an epic marriage proposal caught on film and we got even more giddy than we already were. There’s no better way to end a shoot like this one!

romantic wedding ideas - photo by Courtney Leigh Photography http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-wedding-shoot-turned-proposal

From the photographer, Courtney Leigh Photography: This beautiful wedding inspiration shoot was inspired by earthy elements, neutral tones and pops of gold and dusty blue. The best part? This styled shoot romantically turned into a real life proposal for the sweet couple, Chalie and Andrew. It was such a memorable moment to capture and the moments following the proposal are my absolute favorite images from the shoot. This one definitely goes down as an all time favorite of mine throughout my photography career and so many talented teams helped bring my vision to life.

Modern Industrial Atlanta Wedding

Modern Weddings

Photos by:

W&E Photographie

With a fun, warm-weathered fête like Taylor and Richard’s, it’s almost a no-brainer that hosting it at Summerour Studio would have been so ideal for their wedding style. W&E Photographie came along to photograph all of the darling simplicity in their decor, with Mary Mcleod of Amy Osaba Events in charge of the eye-catching blooms. Erin Stapelton from Stella Harper Events did such a fantastic job at keeping the whole event classic and relaxed!

Atlanta wedding venues - photo by W&E Photographie http://ruffledblog.com/modern-industrial-atlanta-wedding

From the photographers, W&E Photographie: Taylor and Richard’s springtime wedding was held at Summerour Studio in Atlanta. We love the mix of tuscan courtyard and industrial warehouse this venue brings to the table. We go way back with Taylor & Richard. They’ve been guests at so many of our past weddings, so it was only fitting that we finally get them in front of our cameras. Taylor & Richard combined some of Atlanta’s most talented vendors to complete their wedding day. For starters, the always lovely Mary from Amy Osaba Events killed with the florals and greenery and Taylor’s perfect, flowy gown came from, none other than, The Sentamentalist. Taylor & Richard made us the happiest photographers in the world, when they wanted to keep taking couple portraits in lieu of walking into their reception on time. It was a delightful and relaxed day ending with the happy couple being lifted up over the dance floor by their guests.

Savannah is one of those cities that we’re always giddy to feature weddings from. This one by Rach Loves Troy is full of modern + romantic details. Amber and Paul’s beautiful Savannah fête styled to a T by Ivory + Beau is complete with historical venue and a Sarah Seven gown to boot!

Savannah weddings - photo by Rach Loves Troy http://ruffledblog.com/foraged-savannah-wedding

From the wedding coordinators, Ivory + Beau: Amber + Paul got married last October, and are one of our favorite couples we got to work with! Amber came into the shop looking for a wedding dress, and after trying on lot’s of different styles, she chose Marion by Sarah Seven. This strapless lace gown features Sarah Seven’s signature corset bodice with lace ruching, and a delicate train. We LOVE her style, and she wore the coolest necklace ever that had touches of navy, her main color. We added a velvet navy sash which really showed off her tiny waist, and her hair and makeup worked perfectly.

Modern Covered Bridge Wedding

Modern Weddings

When you get the chance to get married at a unique venue, you definitely grab the bull by its horns. Take a look at this beautiful wedding photographed by Kimie Grace Photography! Choosing to let the beauty of the venue shine through on its own, Ashley and Braydan added fine touches of string lights, a floral arrangement suspended over the ceremony altar site, and super glam reception, full of beautiful blooms designed by Cambray Rose Florist.

peach wedding centerpieces - photo by Kimie Grace Photography http://ruffledblog.com/modern-covered-bridge-wedding

From the bride, Ashley: Ashley and Braydan Young were married on the last three-level covered bridge in the U.S. under a hanging floral arrangement and above a flowing creek. Before the ceremony, refreshments from the bride and groom’s favorite local tea shop were served on the bridge, where guests enjoyed views of the California Butte Mountains. When the curtains opened for Ashley to walk down the aisle, a cappella singers, who sat interspersed with the guests, broke into “One Fine Day” taking the guests by surprise and filling the bridge with the sounds of one of the couple’s favorite songs. Guests used the handmade confetti throwers attached to their wedding programs to shower the newlyweds as they made their way back up the aisle as husband and wife.

Chic Navy Wedding in Tahoe

Romantic Weddings

Photos by:

onelove photography

Lake Tahoe is such a breathtaking place and the images onelove photography captured from Janelle and Jamie’s wedding have made it a definite location to visit on my bucket list. I love everything about this wedding, especially how beautifully Elise Events complemented the woodsy surroundings by incorporating rustic tones and creamy whites that stand out beautifully amongst all of the greenery. And let’s not forget those pops of navy dotted all over the wedding! I’m talking in particular about those stunning Adrianna Papell dresses. If you’re ever looking for a way to have a color strewn in to your wedding effortlessly, have your bridesmaids wear the shade of your choice. Brilliant idea!

chic navy wedding in Tahoe - photo by onelove photography http://ruffledblog.com/chic-navy-wedding-in-tahoe

From the bride, Janelle: Jamie and I are a very easy going couple. We wanted our day to truly reflect our personalities- casual, fun and outdoorsy. We chose Tahoe as it is one of our top three favorite place to visit in summer time. Since it was a destination wedding, we wanted our guests to be able to make a weekend out of the trip, so Tahoe was the perfect weekend getaway for our guests. We kept the ceremony short and sweet, and went away with some of the traditional wedding moments such as the bouquet toss and the parents dances. Cocktail hour was casually held on the grass while our guests sipped moscow mules and old fashions.

Whimsical Engine Room Wedding

Romantic Weddings

With a timeless color palette of pink, gold, and blue, it’s all but impossible to go wrong. Sarah and Branden embraced these colors on their wedding day in Georgia with Casto Photography & Cinema and Cote Designs, celebrating a love for each other surrounded by the most important people in their lives. This wedding has a bit of everything, so let’s jump on in!

whimsical engine room wedding - photo by Casto Photography http://ruffledblog.com/whimsical-engine-room-wedding

From the photographers, Casto Photography & Cinema: High school sweethearts Sarah & Branden envisioned a destination Georgia wedding celebrating their new life in the peach state while incorporating their love for their hometown in Maryland and love for the Baltimore Orioles (Branden is a pitcher for the Baltimore Orioles organization). They wanted to create a day that was both unique but would remain timeless. Incorporating the chippy brick walls of the venue, hints of copper, a bold color palette of blues and pinks, paired with sunlight streaming through the windows and classic pairings, Sarah & Branden’s wedding was truly one of a kind and a reflection of their sweet love.

Everything about today’s feature wholeheartedly embraces the true spirit of a southern wedding. A family-style reception dinner, a choir singing “Oh Happy Day!,” and a classic bridal look are just some of the pieces that fit together to make Beth and Zack’s day a beautiful one to remember. Photos by Heart, Christina Sloan Events, and Studio Flower all worked together wonderfully here!

From the event designer and planner, Christina Sloan Events: A crisp, October evening and a gorgeous villa was the setting for Beth and Zack’s wedding. An intimate gathering of family and friends came together to celebrate the couple and was treated to an elegant, Southern-inspired family style meal and tons of gorgeous details, from the custom, hand-lettered mirror menu and place cards to the beautiful place settings.

Beth and Zack wanted an evening that treated their guests to Southern hospitality, full of elegant details and custom design, while still incorporating their fun personalities. As a surprise to her new groom and her guests, Beth arranged for the Birmingham Mass Community Choir to come out during the recessional with a cheerful rendition of “Oh, Happy Day.” From beginning to end, it was a day of love, celebration, good food, and gorgeous details.

Parisian Twilight Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Navy blue and gold make a timeless combo, and they work brilliantly together in this styled shoot from Kelli Boyd Photography, Grace Graffiti, and The Vine. This talented team of vendors used a real life couple who recently got engaged in France, so a theme of Parisian Twilight fit the bill wonderfully! Let’s jump right on in:

From the event designer, Grace Graffiti: With such a talented group of vendors, we thought it would be best to let each vendor have full creative control of their area of expertise. We wanted to showcase each other’s strengths and how amazing a wedding can look when your have a team of vendors that work well together. Our model couple just recently were engaged in Paris, France, so the theme of a Parisian Wedding fit perfectly. From the chandelier hanging from the trees to the sabering of sparkling wine to the floral macaron wedding cake, our couple were able to reminisce their engagement in the international city of love.

Whimsical Backyard Garden Wedding

DIY Weddings

We adore hearing photographers’ descriptions of their couples’ wedding days, and Cassie Lopez Photography related the wedding of Chloe and Caleb to that of a “DIY Marie Antoinette in the suburbs.” Merci Bouquet shone on floral detail, putting together a bouquet full of garden roses, ferns, kale, cotton, and even tomato vine as a nod to the bride’s grandfather.

whimsical backyard garden wedding - photo by Cassie Lopez http://ruffledblog.com/whimsical-backyard-garden-wedding

From the bride, Chloe: I wanted a romantic southern vintage garden wedding. Caleb and I wanted our wedding to be intimate so we held the ceremony and reception in my parents backyard (the home where I grew up). Both my mother and grandmother were married in their homes so we thought that mom moms garden would be the perfect setting.

Flower recipe: The arrangements and bouquets featured English roses, cotton, ornamental kale, fern leaves, and gold dipped leaves. I had a piece of tomato vine added to my bouquet in memory of my grandfather who was an avid gardener. His hands always smelled like tomato vine and I wanted to carry a piece of him with me that day.

I’d describe our wedding as whimsical, romantic, and intimate. As far as a color theme/scheme we used a lot of navy, gold, ivory lace, and black & white stripes. The majority of color came from the garden flowers. I built the stained glass window display for our ceremony, hand made all of our save the dates/invitations, and guest favors. My mother and I planted and gardened all of the flowers throughout the yard and my father built the beautiful deck for our ceremony. I spent a lot of time searching for floral vintage plates and other antique fixtures. Most of these items were bought from peddlers malls and antique shops throughout Louisville.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Try not to get caught up in what other people want for you and your partner. Everyone has their own opinions but your wedding is truly a day to celebrate who you are as a couple. We are so happy that we kept our wedding personal and unique to who we are. I think that because of this you can really see our personality.

Wedding Music:
Processional: “Island in the Sun,” Weezer (Vitamin String Quartet tribute)
Recessional: “Sea of Love,” Phil Phillips
First Dance: “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea,” Neutral Milk Hotel
Father/Daughter Dance: “Crimson and Clover,” Tommy James and the Shondells

From the photographer, Cassie Lopez: This wedding reminded me of a DIY Marie Antoinette in the suburbs. Chloe created a beautiful wedding on the deck in her parent’s garden in Louisville, Kentucky. White sheets and string lights draped in the trees and gold accents brought light to the table decorations. Chloe and Caleb are both eccentric and their wedding completely reflected that with vintage pieces, a striped aisle, an animal headed couple as a cake topper and “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel as their first dance song. Every detail was quirky, elegant, sentimental and fun.

Chic Autumn Wedding in Pennsylvania

Rustic Weddings

Put together a bride and groom who share a love for football, a “vintage chic” wedding theme, and a navy and gold color palette, and you have this beautiful modern wedding in Pennsylvania. Veronica Varos Photography and Garnish Event Design are sharing their gorgeous work on Lauren and Scott’s wedding day, which is filled to the brim with sweet ideas and totally enviable details.

chic autumn wedding in Pennsylvania - photo by Veronica Varos Photography http://ruffledblog.com/chic-autumn-wedding-in-pennsylvania

From the bride, Lauren: Our theme is ‘vintage chic’ and our colors are navy and old gold. Scott is a PITT Alum, and I am a WVU Alum so the navy/gold was a no-brainer for our color scheme. Football is a HUGE part of our life and my family’s life revolved around the WVU football schedule growing up. So adding touches of the “Backyard Brawl” here and there is a must.

Scott is the most kind hearted, fun loving man I’ve ever met. He truly is one in a million!! We really put SO MANY hours into this day, down to every last detail (as you hopefully will be able to see!). I have heard so many horror stories about wedding planning and the stress of it, but as soon as we got engaged I started looking into things. Pinterest is both amazing and incredibly hard to compete with. A few months into planning, I came across a wonderful article about “Pinterest Weddings” and how they aren’t real. “That floral wall? That cost thousands and was meticulously constructed for a high end magazine photo shoot. These weddings are realistic, because they aren’t weddings!” — that’s when I decided, I am going to limit my crafting, and pick a few must have details and let the rest be done for me. The whole process has been so much fun and although I’ve loved every minute, I can’t wait to see it all come together and then GO ON OUR HONEYMOON! (Note from photographer: They went to Bora Bora! The photos you see of her looking surprised mid-way through the set are the images taken the very moment Scott told her they were going to Bora Bora in front of all of their friends and family!).

Black Tie Halloween Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Halloween is creeping up on us, and we can’t think of a better way to kick off the spirit than this elegant take on a Halloween wedding from Smith House Photography, Paige Kristian Planning, and Arteflora Design. The team used an updated palette of navy blue and burgundy with just a touch of gold, and a selection of fresh fruits made the perfect accent. The cake especially caught our eye — we love the idea of using gold foil!

black tie Halloween wedding inspiration - photo by Smith House Photography http://ruffledblog.com/black-tie-halloween-wedding-inspiration

From the photographer and stylist, Becki of Smith House Photography: When we began dreaming of a Halloween inspired wedding shoot, we knew we wanted to step away from the typical “orange and black”. So we replaced orange with golds (take a close look at the flatware from Anthropologie, it is to die for!) and black with navy (of course we kept SOME black, it just seemed to fit!) to create something unique and beautiful for the holiday. With burgundy as our main color accent and a venue with gorgeous greenery, we aimed to use organics and florals to bring in deep, dark colors to our Halloween inspiration; blackberries, figs, deep peonies. We wanted classic.

But since it is Halloween, we added in amazing Halloween details; Cue the most unique BLACK wedding cake you’ve ever seen and romantic Corpse Bride quotes incorporated into the invitations and ceremony backdrop. So without a pumpkin in sight, we present to you the gorgeous Black (Berry) Tie Halloween Inspiration Shoot at The Gallery in Houston, Texas.

Woodland Romance Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

You guys, I’ve fallen deeply, madly, and completely in love with today’s shoot from Emily Wren Photography and A Garden Party Florist. A truly talented team of vendors came together to create a breathlessly romantic scene in a wooded valley, including a ceremony backdrop made of tree trunks decorated with lanterns and candles that’s guaranteed to set your hearts racing. Every time we look at the shoot we see something new to love, so make sure you catch every image!

From the photographer, Emily Wren: This shoot took place at a brand new wedding venue called Brookmill Farms located in Lambertville, NJ and was a collaboration between A Garden Party Florist, QueenBee Paperie, Lovely Bride Philadelphia, Forget Me Not Rentals and myself, Emily Wren Photography. We wanted to showcase the venue as well as all of our vendors’ creativity by letting ourselves be inspired by the idyllic setting of this venue nestled into a wooded valley. In addition to the flower arrangements, A Garden Party florist created a plethora of amazing botanical details, such as a fresh fern table runner, a botanical bow tie and pocket square for our groom and botanical jewelry for our bride. One unique service they offer is live painting of your wedding by their resident artist and designer so we had her paint a scene of the couple on the beautiful covered bridge on the property.

Salt Lake City Hardware Company Wedding

Romantic Weddings

I never tire of seeing grooms with great style, and with his checkered blue shirt and on-trend undercut ‘do, he definitely fits the bill. Green Apple Photography and Flower Afternoon + Decor captured Taylor and Hayden’s vision perfectly, utilizing an industrial reception space and bringing in lush floral design complete with one of our favorite accents, berries!

Salt Lake City hardware company wedding - photo by Green Apple Photography http://ruffledblog.com/salt-lake-city-hardware-company-wedding

From the photographer, Lindsey of Green Apple Photography: The ceremony was at the Logan, Utah LDS Temple, and the reception was in an old hardware building, turned offices, in Salt Lake City. I loved Hayden’s blue checked shirt and blue suit, and Taylor’s beautiful flowers with berries. Val from Flower Afternoon did all the decor and flowers, and brought in summer berries in all the floral arrangements. It was a sweet wedding, with lots of simple details (honey pots for all the guests!)

Romantic Orchard Row Inspired Wedding

Wedding Design

My love affair with gold is still going strong, so I’m elated to see that today’s team of vendors shares that same love. Jenn Kavanagh Photography, The Rose Mint, Happily Ever After Weddings & Events, and The White Book Wedding Co put together this inspired dreamscape, featuring a beautiful display of roses and wildflowers plus a special guest lamb or two!

romantic orchard row inspired wedding - photo by Jenn Kavanagh http://ruffledblog.com/romantic-orchard-row-inspired-wedding

From the photographer, Jenn Kavanagh: As the poet Tyler Kent White once wrote, “you are the daydream I am supposed to have for the rest of my life.” Waking up on her wedding day, Laila wanders straight into her daydream, Orchard Row. Captured in softness and airy light by Jenn Kavanagh Photography and dreamt up by The White Book Wedding Co. We are welcomed into the daytime dream world of a soon-to-be bride. In Orchard Row, Laila awakes in her Ines Di Santo gown and custom jewels by Hattitude Jewellery. Her hair is soft and flowing created by Hair by Ladylyn with the perfect hair veil by Blair Nadeau Millinery. Her flawless glowing makeup by Dawna Boot Makeup, compliments the dewy soft light of the morning perfectly.

She floats through the familiar rows of apple blossoms she has known since her childhood spent at Spirit Tree Cider Estates, dressed to perfection. Off in the distance, her favourite orchard tree still preserving the perfect wood swing where she spent so many sunsets. As she wanders through the sweet scents of apples, she comes across a romantic table draped in her favourite blooms in rose gold vessels by The Rose Mint, and the most precious custom miniature sheep place cards. She approaches the table and notes all the intimate details by Happily Ever After Events. The blush goblets, brass candle sticks, gold chargers and gold cutlery are perfectly balanced by the gold table and ivory wrought iron chairs. The table is magical as it shines in the soft sunset light.

As she picks up her custom menu by Ferris Wheel Press, so crisp and detailed, she sees her childhood friend walking towards her down the row. It would only be fitting that in her dreams, her best friend would always be there, sharing her bridal elegance. Together the brides explore the fields, enjoying scrumptious cakes and sweets by Crumb and Berry and sipping on the sweetest blush cider from the Estate. They play on the wooden swing like young girls and spend time cuddling with their baby lamb friends Bow and Peep. Orchard Row has become a romantic, luxe and ethereal stroll through the sweetest of places …if only it were more than a dream.

If you’re thinking of renewing your vows, make sure you check out this beautiful vow renewal from V.A. Photography, Events by Elizabeth Palmer, and One Sweet Day in May. Anna and Greg returned to the same venue where they exchanged vows one year earlier, and shared the same words over again to reaffirm their commitment to one another. White and blue striped table runners, bright pink flowers, and travel-inspired accent pieces were in order for the day!

From the bride, Anna: We had the most fun and memorable wedding and so when it came to our first anniversary we wanted to go back to our venue where it all started, Historic Tredegar. While at first we wanted to just do a simple anniversary session, being in the wedding industry myself we just kept adding! Getting into the industry shortly after our wedding I kept learning new things I wish we had done or vendors I wished we had used and this shoot offered us the opportunity to play around with some of those ideas. Our wedding was everything we had hoped for and more, but with this anniversary session we took touches from our own wedding and styled it up even more.

We kept with the navy, white, and gold color scheme bringing in pops of colors with our flowers. Ali helped bring in the travel and wanderlust characteristics which was perfect because we both love to travel and explore together. Our guest book at our wedding was actually a ton of vintage postcards from around the world that our guests wrote on and then my mom mailed them to us one at a time during our first year of marriage!

Some back story on us… Like many couples these days, we met online on Match.com but that certainly didn’t mean there were no fun stories of when we first met! Our first date was at South Carolina vs. Kentucky basketball game where Greg showed up late (I should have picked up on this foreshadowing!) and then was too nervous to eat any of his meal at dinner after the game. This is the only time I’ve ever seen him leave food on his plate in the four and a half years we’ve been together. After grad school I found a job in Richmond, VA and Greg joined me there as we started a life together. Shortly after we got engaged and began planning our wedding in our new hometown. We were excited to have all of our friends and family come to town and so decided to have our wedding in the heart of downtown at Historic Tredegar, which was an ironworks during the Civil War. Greg is a history teacher and the Civil War is one of his specialties, so it was a neat place for us to say “I do”! We threw traditional out the window and chose food trucks over catering which allowed our guests to enjoy some of the best tacos, burgers, and barbecue that Richmond has to offer. While there were so many fun foods and things to do at our wedding our favorite parts were our first look, our ceremony (which was officiated by my grandfather), and dancing the night away with our friends and family!

For our first anniversary it took me a while to think of what to get Greg that would follow the tradition of paper. Since we wrote our own wedding vows, I decided that I wanted to have them all written out so we could hang them in a gallery wall in our bedroom. I’m not quite sure how I had the patience to write them out and make them fit, but after having to redo Greg’s several times I finally got them all to fit. It was so special to make this gift and and give him something that will give us a daily reminder of the promises that we made to each other.

Romantic Garden Wedding with Vintage Details

Garden Weddings

A garden wedding with French country accents is right up my alley, so I’m particularly smitten with this beautiful day from Yes, Dear. Studio and Wallflower Inspiration. Whitney and Steve exchanged their vows in San Diego amidst romantic scenery, vintage details, and touches of gold and navy, which all adds up to a classic look we’ll enjoy for years to come!

From the bride, Whitney: Steve and I met at work in San Diego. After many years of friendship, he proposed in Big Sur at Glen Oaks in January 2014. We decided that we would take a month to enjoy being engaged and then start the wedding planning. I grew up Virginia and he is from Sonoma County – so picking a destination for the wedding was unlimited. We decided on San Diego since we live there and the weather is always perfect. Our first venue tour was at Twin Oaks Garden and we immediately fell in love. It has an old schoolhouse that was built in 1891 that is now used as a bridal suite. And not to mention the beautiful flowers blooming everywhere and the “French country” accents as my fiance calls it!

We wanted our wedding to represent us and to thank everyone who travelled to be there for our wedding, so we did a lot of DIY projects! I have two very talented and creative parents, so it was fun to involve them in the planning process. The only hard part was that they live 2,500 miles away from me. I was constantly sending my Mom ideas! My parents helped to make the 21 table numbers that my Dad cut out of recycled wood and my Mom stenciled the white numbers onto. My Mom also also put together a memorial table with old wedding pictures of our parents, siblings and grandparents. My mother in law and my father in law sanded and painted our “Miles” sign to indicate how far people travelled for our big day (people came from Guam, Copenhagen, Virginia, Indiana, etc). But, I was the main DIY-er for the wedding. I love the color NAVY and I am obsessed with chalkboards. I had navy and white ribbon on my bridal bouquet, on the cocktail tables, the name tags and even as a runner on the dessert table. I also spend countless hours making a welcome chalkboard, a bar menu and hashtag signs that were places on all of the cocktail tables so we could see all of our guests pictures the day after the wedding!

I wore a beautiful dress by Tara Keely that I had buttons added from my Grandmother and Mom’s wedding dress to the back of my dress as my something old. Also, I wore a Chamarro Bamboo bracelet that was handed down to me from my Mother in Law who originally received it from her Mother in Law on her wedding day. We love playing Jenga and decided to have our guests sign the blocks instead of using a traditional guest book. Now every time we play the game we can read the sweet messages left by our guests!

Also, we were so blessed to have found the most amazing and talented vendors. I love photography so naturally after booking our venue we started researching photographers in San Diego. Yes, Dear Studios was the first husband and wife team that we met. After our meeting my fiance and I knew they were the team we wanted with us the day of the wedding. We also chose Amari Productions for our videography. I spent hours watching their wedding films posted on their website- so it was a no-brainer to pick them. And our florist- Esther of Wallflower Inspiration… where do I begin?! She was instrumental in helping me with our table design. We used old vintage books, teacups and wooden cigar boxes for our centerpieces and then toped them off with beautiful white and pink flowers. Esther put all of the flowers in small and large mason jars so the guests could take them home at the end of the night. One of our favorite moments (and most memorial part) of the day was the ceremony. As I was walking down the aisle, it felt a raindrop. I remember looking at my husband to be and telling him “… It’s raining”. He looked and me and told me- “I know. It’s going to be ok”. In that moment I decided, rain or shine, I am marrying the love of my life and a few raindrops are ok. As soon as were were introduced as husband and wife and everyone was under the tent, the rain came pouring down! Don’t they say raining on your wedding day is good luck? I think they are right! Advice to couples — it is easy to get wrapped up in all of the details — but remember to take it all in and be present in each and every moment! It truly is the best day ever!

Intimate Garden Restaurant Wedding

Elegant Weddings

Katie and Connor’s wedding day is one for the books, you guys. Held in an intimate restaurant in the West Village of NYC, the reception was full of incredible flowers, rich greenery, and navy and gold polka dot table runners that have stolen our hearts. Redfield Photography and Designs by Ahn did some of their best work on this one!

From the bride, Katie: Our first thought was actually to elope, but that quickly changed so we could share the day with our loved ones. However, we still wanted to it to be an intimate special day. So the guest list was very limited, we were able to do a first look in the park before the service that then took place at a church in our neighborhood. The reception location was a cozy restaurant in the West Village that felt like it could have been a friend’s home. In the end it turned out to be so us, I don’t think we would change a thing!

Favorite memories of the day: The first look! It was a beautiful autumn morning in the park; it was a quiet moment with just the photographers, the wedding party, and us. It really was the perfect way to calm our nerves and start the day. The day went so fast, we were so thankful to have photographers who we trusted, and we ended up with photographs that will help us treasure the memories of that day forever! A great part about having an intimate wedding is that it is much easier to add custom DIY touches because you have such smaller quantities to produce. For our wedding this included painting gold dots on the table runners, spray painting unfinished wood candlestick holders, and making a sign for the cake table.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Spend your time working out the elements that mean the most to you. Also, I think it was surprising how some of the little things you worry about leading up to the wedding, seem so unimportant on that day.

To be perfectly honest, I don’t think I’ve been able to tear myself away from this styled shoot from Anna Naphtali, Kathryn Godwin of Studio Cultivate, and Vintage Charlotte since I first laid eyes on it. With a tassel backdrop in varying shades of blue, vintage rugs, and a cake reminiscent of intricate henna designs, could you possibly blame me?

bohemian nouveau wedding with midnight blue - photo by Anna Naphtali http://ruffledblog.com/bohemian-nouvea-wedding-with-midnight-blue

From Amy Herman of Vintage Charlotte: An obsession with antique rugs lead to this glamorous twist on bohemian decor. The rich dark blues and marsala create a sophisticated setting for the gold and white details of the table and the dress to elevated and glow. We allowed the details to evolve in a natural way, the invitations hint towards design elements from the antique rugs and the cake is iced with the intricate lace pattern from the dress.

Wedding Style Meets the Big Easy

Wedding Design

There are few cities as rife with their own personal style as New Orleans, Louisiana. Brass instruments, Mardi Gras, and a nod to French sensibilities are the first things that come to mind for me, and this styled shoot from GreenAutumn Photography & Film, Frou Frou House, Delight Floral Design fuses these things together for an inspiring styled shoot that has us yearning for a trip down south!

wedding style meets the Big Easy - photo by GreenAutumn Photography and Film http://ruffledblog.com/wedding-style-meets-the-big-easy

From the paper goods designers, Frou Frou House: The inspiration for our styled shoot came from a recent trip to the culturally infused city of New Orleans. Belonging to our neighbours down south, this little gem was packed with breathtaking architecture, musical history, classic flair and indigenous cuisine. It was not hard for us to fall in love and envision a styled wedding based on the Big Easy lifestyle and culture.

Our tablescape featured a French Horn as the centerpiece borrowing from the city’s affair with brass instruments. This was our focal point and was surrounded by vintage gold candlesticks. A luscious leafy garland peppered with subtle florals crafted by the talented Delight Floral Design draped down the center of the table. We paired this beautifully with a navy satin linen and charcoal napkins provided by Susan Murray International. Influenced by the presence of the Art Deco era within New Orleans, we selected mirrored plate chargers from Event Rental Group, gold flatware and custom menus designed by our in house team that served as remnants of this period.

The stunning florals incorporated rich jewel tones of burgundy and magenta which were accented with soft blush pink roses and wax flowers. This gave our shoot just the right amount of sophistication and romance. Wanting to include a little bit of the Big Easy cuisine, we used a traditional New Orleans pastry – beignets by Vanilla Lane for our sweet table. The two tier navy cake with delicate handmade blush pink florals looked lovely in front of the lace and gold dipped feather backdrop.

One of the highlights of our trip was witnessing a delightful Second Line wedding march filled with a full band, frilly parasols and a whole ton of 50s flair go down the middle of the French Quarter streets. We based the look of our couple on this experience. Our breathtaking bride wore a gorgeous cap sleeve ivory Theia gown completely embellished with ivory sequins from Sash & Bustle. A charming feather hairpiece was placed effortlessly in her hair which was styled with lovely vintage sapphire earrings. The handsome groom wore a custom classic navy suit from Surmesur Toronto, a crisp white shirt and a dark green polka dot bow tie for an added colourful touch. Our friends at GreenAutumn Photography captured our vision wonderfully and the raw candid moments between our real life couple could not have been more romantic and natural. This timeless, romantic wedding inspiration is perfect for a sophisticated yet fun bride that appreciates the small personal details from a city full of life, love and history.

My Little Secrets

Incredible Handcrafted Wedding in Salt Lake City

DIY Weddings

Today’s wedding is so full of amazing ideas, you’ll be sure to return to it time and time again. D’Arcy Benincosa Photography captured Ben and Amber’s wedding in Salt Lake City, and as you’ll be able to see from these images, Amber is a natural crafter at heart. She handmade not one but two brilliant backdrop walls, and the rest of the details followed suit with amazing creativity.

From the bride, Amber: I know you’ve heard the saying “I feel like the luckiest girl in the world” time and time again, but guys, I felt like the absolute luckiest lady when my groom slipped that engagement ring on my finger and asked me to be his wife. Not only did I get to marry one of the most wonderful human beings on the planet, I got to plan and execute a wedding! A wedding to me is like a fantasy land where creativity, design, music, fashion, family, and friends all get meshed together in one amazing little package. As a self proclaimed “craftster” & “DIYer”, I was overflowing with ideas as to what my wedding day could become.

My husband and I became engaged exactly one year and a day before our wedding date. The nice thing about being engaged the full year before we were married is that I was able to pick a wedding venue and see what it would roughly look like the next fall. The choice was not hard, as our venue was completely gorgeous on its own, having both outdoor and indoor elements. However, I wanted to add those extra DIY crafty elements that made the space really feel like it was “ours”. In fact, before picking our venue, we had talked about renting out a warehouse space for several months to completely customize, but my mom put the brakes on that idea [and thankfully, mother knows best (sometimes)]. Lucky for us too, our venue was absolutely happy to accommodate any crazy idea we threw their way. I remember when I sat down to come up with the decor/installation elements for the wedding I wrote down “textured.” I love the look and feel of using different materials, sizes, and colors right next to each other. By the time I had finished all of my projects for the wedding I was actually concerned that it all wouldn’t look good or cohesive because I had brought in so many different elements (even so much that we had to rent a U-Haul to get all of it to the venue), but much to my relief everything looked amazing and it felt like it had transformed into our own little wonderland.

My favorite thing about Fall, and one of the main reasons I picked it for us to get married, is all of the beautiful saturated colors. I remember when I told our venue coordinator all of the colors that I would be using her eyes went wide, and she said “that’s a lot of colors.” (Her eyes went even bigger when I told her I was bringing not just one, but two “walls” in.) I should tell you that throughout our wedding planning process I never really listened to the advice that most people or popularity gave me (because everyone wants to give you advice). If you want fourteen colors to your wedding, have them. If you want huge displays, make them. My favorite part of the wedding was that it was distinctly mine, I did exactly what I wanted (budget permitting) and in the end I felt so good about the choices I had made. Now, if you are planning a wedding, I’m not telling you to be a bridezilla, but make sure to make yourself happy! It’s your special day after all!

Our ceremony was wonderful, my legs shook the whole time out of nerves, but luckily it was cold enough everybody thought I was just cold (which it really was). The groom and I wrote our own ceremony with the help of the officiant, which was good because we knew exactly what was happening next and kept our composure for the most of it (we’re both a bit tender-hearted). Our ceremony then led into a Soup Bar dinner, and a marvelous reception. We wanted to make sure that our wedding reception would be one to remember, and that our guests would be thoroughly entertained, so instead of doing a “money dance” the groom and I opted to take a note from Jimmy Fallon and we competed in our very first love song Lip Sync Battle. Our guests absolutely loved the “super secret surprise” and it gave family and guests from far away that don’t know us well a chance to see our hilarious competitive side. For the rest of the night we did what my husband does best, and danced the night away.

Relaxed and Elegant Wedding in Charlottesville

Elegant Weddings

We love that today’s bride, Jamie, knew the importance of putting personal touches on her wedding day, so she set out to include as many projects as possible to make sure the day was tailor-made for her relationship with beau Nate. At the time of their wedding, Jamie and Nate had been together for nine and a half years already, so there was much to celebrate! Sera Petras Photography and Amore Events by Cody truly outdid themselves on this one.

From the bride, Jamie: We really wanted our wedding to be an intimate affair that truly reflected Nate and I as a couple. We originally thought we’d go for rustic elegance, but through the planning process, we ended up switching gears slightly to be more relaxed elegance, with a romantic feel. It was very important to us that our guests feel welcome and comfortable and that the day be filled with personal touches. I’m super detail oriented, and Nate and I have been together for so long [9.5 years on our wedding day! We met in college ;)], so it was actually pretty easy for us to make decisions and we knew immediately upon meeting our vendors who we wanted to have as a part of our day.

Our ceremony also very much reflected us as a couple, from our individual and personalized vows (we each wrote our own) to our unique ceremony reading (a children’s book, “A Lovely Love Story”) to our amazing officiant who infused anecdotes about me and Nate throughout the ceremony. It was also very important to us that everyone have fun at our wedding, so a great band was high up on the list of must-haves. Our band kept everyone on the dance floor and I truly can’t imagine having more fun!

We went with a neutral palette – blush, cream, white, gold, with navy added in for the men’s attire. I’m a huge fan of gold and glitter, so we included gold touches wherever it made sense. We also had custom drink stirrers with our monogram, straw tags with our wedding date, and napkins with personalized sayings. I am all about DIY because of the personalization that accompanies it, and some of my favorite wedding projects include the following: I made a word search about me, Nate, and our relationship to keep guests entertained while waiting for the ceremony to begin. I taught myself modern calligraphy and addressed all of our invitations myself, and I also created our cocktail hour, dessert table, and bar signage. I spray painted leaves gold and wrote guest names in calligraphy on each one to use as place cards. This was by far my favorite project, and one that I knew I would do from the moment we got engaged. It was super exciting to see it come to fruition and to hear our guests tell me how much they loved them! Our welcome bags included cookies made by my mom (some in the shape of Virginia and Vermont, to reflect our home states), granola made by Nate’s mom, maple syrup from Nate’s hometown in Vermont (his parents tap maple trees for fun), and Virginia peanuts in little burlap bags.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? Yes, my biggest piece of advice is to have fun! Enjoy this amazing time with your fiancé(e) and don’t get overwhelmed by the decisions and the details. Wedding planning can seem daunting, but at the end of the day, all that really matters is that you’re marrying the love of your life – so don’t lose sight of that! Also, as an event planner myself, I can’t stress the importance of hiring at least a day-of coordinator. You shouldn’t be stressing about a single thing on your wedding day, and you will greatly alleviate (if not eliminate) any anxiety by having someone there to take care of the details on your big day.

Stargazer Wedding Inspiration

Wedding Design

Photos by:

What could be dreamier than a stargazer wedding theme? The Big Fake wedding made their way down to Orlando, Florida for the third time, using a mixture of globes, constellations, and botanical accents as inspiration for one heck of a faux wedding. The result? An experience that was nothing short of celestial.

Romantic Australian Wedding in a Library

Romantic Weddings

Lara Hotz

I may be a bit biased as a lover of classic literature, but today’s wedding from Lara Hotz and Jardine Botanic Floral Styling is right up my alley. As soon as newlyweds Jen and Andrew saw Bendooley Estate, home to a unique book store, they knew it was their perfect venue. Building around such a stunning setting was a breeze, and their entire wedding day was a smash hit!

From the bride, Jennifer: We wanted an old romantic style for our wedding. I am a lover of books and as soon as I saw the venue which was a Book Barn we fell in love with it. There was no doubt in our minds that this place was where we wanted to celebrate our first day as husband and wife. What better backdrop for the Bridal Party table than to have a showcase of books behind you and all around you. The location was sentimental to us because the Southern Highlands was the location of our first getaway as a couple and nothing was more fitting than to have our wedding at a location so dear to our journey together.

Bouquet recipe: Notes from our florist: lush slightly unstructured bouquet in creams, pale peach, apricot and a touch of blush with greenery and texture such as sea holly. Florals to be included are David Austin garden roses, peonies, hydrangeas, sweet pea with touches of jasmine vine. Natural stems to be showing and to use long trailing ribbons to complement the bouquet – I just left it up to my amazing florist to choose whatever she wanted as she is such a creative talented person and the flowers were the talk of the party form the table arrangements to the church flowers to the flowers in each bridesmaids hair to even the scented floral arrangement she created in the ladies bathroom.

For the favors for the guests we got a local jam shop “Little Hand Stirred Jam Shop” in Berrima (location we got married) to make us some jams and we designed the labels and dressed them up in doilies with navy ribbons around them. We wanted to incorporate some local produce in our wedding. My sister also baked lemon biscotti as an addition to the favors for each guest and had a cute message saying “Sweets to end the sweetest day”. We also created the seating chart and named the guest tables old romantic movies that we both love which were Casablanca, Gone with the wind, Breakfast and Tiffany’s, Officer & a Gentleman.

I love the color Navy Blue and had to have that color in our wedding. We had the boys in Navy Blue suits and the ribbon for our Jam favors was also blue. The bridesmaids gifts were blue Swarovski earrings which they wore on the day. I’ve always been in love with Red Roses and the red rose was incorporated in all our stationery from our invites to our wedding programs, place cards and menu cards. We wanted a different wedding that no one has experienced before. Something that they went back home to and talked about how different it was. We wanted to create a modern vintage, unique, romantic, whimsical wedding. Because it was most guests first destination wedding and we wanted to create a relaxed feel out of the city where guest can let their hair down and enjoy the magic that our wedding would bring and just enjoy themselves and leaving all the stresses of work and anything else back at home.

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? It could be such a stressful thing to plan but every time you think it’s too much just take a moment to stop and think that this is the most amazing thing you will ever plan and enjoy the ride – it’s not worth the stress. Also, don’t cut corners – if you really want something then do it. It doesn’t have to be the most expensive thing but if you want it then get or do it, because it will only be a regret after. Also, research suppliers and ideas. We spent pretty much every night getting ideas of what I wanted and researching the best suppliers that would fit into my wedding and I can say with all honestly that I got the best for me and there is not one thing I would change.

A Fun Food Truck Wedding

I’ll admit it; I used to think it would be difficult to make a food truck wedding elegant. Well no more, because this backyard California wedding from Majesta Patterson has completely proven me wrong! Cole and Caitlin’s wedding day was full of good eats, lovely floral design, and bistro string lights. Prepare to be blown away by this endlessly sophisticated wedding:

From the bride, Caitlin: We wanted our wedding to be super laid back and fun for everyone involved; we saw it as a great opportunity to bring family and friends together and have an amazing evening making memories. It was so great to have the people that we love and cherish there to celebrate with us, and we wanted that to be the focus and not get hung up on too many little details. We wanted everyone to feel relaxed, have some great food, dance to some awesome music, and just enjoy spending time with loved ones.

My wedding could probably be best described as simple and classic, with vintage elements, and a soft color palette with the occasional pops of color (brought in largely by the flowers used in the bouquets and on the tables). Everything felt light and soft with just the right amount of contrast. There were several DIY projects, including the menus, table numbers, the “ribbon wall,” escort cards and the display they were attached to, bride and groom chair backs, cake topper, ring box, wooden gate with bride and groom’s initials, stands for the vintage windows displayed at the altar and behind the sweetheart table, the game of “life-sized Jenga,” hangers for the bride’s/bridesmaids’ dresses, and several pieces of refinished vintage furniture. The wedding planner along with my mom and dad totally rocked at all of these DIY projects!

Any advice for couples planning their weddings now? My best advice for couples would be to relax and be adaptable when planning your wedding—especially if you are doing it long distance, which is becoming more and more common these days. If you would have asked me a few years ago how I expected my wedding planning to go, I would’ve said, “I don’t need a wedding planner, I can totally do everything myself.” Little did I know that I would be planning a wedding long distance, and wouldn’t have the freedom to fly back and forth between Omaha and the Bay Area to get my hands dirty in all the little details. I was able come up with a vision for the big day, but needed to leave the execution in my mom’s and my wedding planner’s hands (yes, I did get a wedding planner after all, and she was a huge blessing to us). I learned through the process that it’s okay to trust your vision to other people—no, I didn’t get to do every DIY project myself, and I didn’t get to see everything first hand before the big day, but guess what? I had a beautiful wedding and reception, the planning process wasn’t stressful, and the most important part was that I got to marry my best friend that day—that’s all that ultimately matters for any bride or groom.

From the photographer, Majesta Patterson: Marrying tradition with modern design, Cole and Caitlin held a sweet, rustic wedding at the Rengstorff House in Mountain View. Planning all the way from Nebraska, they carefully chose the perfect details and vendors – from their food truck spread to their gorgeous tablescapes. I love that Caitlin chose to add pops of color in her bouquets while keeping the bridesmaid dresses mismatched and neutral! Cole adorned a classic navy blue suit, my absolute favorite suit color of the season. Let’s just talk about their tablescapes for a second – one of my favorite details from their wedding! Like all good things, the layers to their table created a perfect balance to create a homey and inviting feel to their reception. With custom menu’s nailed to wood blocks and mismatched glass vases to hold their delicate wild flowers. Napkins were wrapped and placed in cute buckets to carry the food truck theme, placed on a natural wood board atop their light blue table runners. And lastly, the overhead bistro lighting created a warm environment for their guests to dine under. It truly was a charming celebration!

Soho Wedding with Modern and Industrial Touches

Modern Weddings

Kate and Steve met nearly 15 years ago in a school play, and after years of dating, time apart, and reconciliation, Steve asked Kate to be his bride. The couple moved from San Francisco to New York City and married each other in the heart of Soho, where their modern-meets-industrial wedding wowed us all. Thank you to the incredible team of Chaz Cruz, Michelle Elaine Weddings Inc., and 2h flowers for putting this together!

From the event designer, Michelle of Michelle Elaine Weddings Inc.: Meeting at their high school play, almost 15 years ago, Kate & Steve never imagined they’d end up getting married to one another. Two years after that inevitable meeting was their first date. While Kate thought Steve was a great guy, she had living to do, college, traveling, adventures; marriage was certainly not on her mind. Four years quickly passed by and fate brought Kate & Steve together again, reconnecting while in Edinburgh, Scotland. This was when they began to realize perhaps this is something greater. Not long after, Kate joined Steve in San Francisco to live together. June 2012, Steve got down on one knee and asked Kate to marry him. Later that year they were off to New York City and decided that this must be where they start the next big chapter in their lives together.

They are probably one of the most unique couples I have ever worked with. Rather than a “first look,” Steve hung out in the hotel suite as Kate got hair & make up done. He showed her the shoes he had bought earlier that day and they were like two perfect peas in a pod just living another happy day together. The décor and aesthetic were created with a mix of the wonderful history they share from their one of a kind save the date to inspiring ideas from other weddings and of course Pinterest! We worked together to create a modern and industrial vibe with clean lines on the tables and gold and silver spray painted dinosaurs as number holders, all while keeping some softness for the wedding with lush white peonies and some greenery for accents as centerpieces down the long, wooden family style tables. The restaurant had it’s own characteristics to work off of & helped pull our design ideas together as one.

The look & feel was to say “New York!” with a touch of Kate & Steve. Though it really said “Kate & Steve!” with a touch of New York. Their personal fashions coordinated more perfectly than imagined & they had a bit of that Mad Men style. Steve’s suit was custom made while Kate changed her mind last minute and thankfully we found the perfect gown just six weeks before the day! Kate & Steve are most certainly one of a kind and I believe they prefer it that way, because they are definitely one of a kind for each other.
