Next up is all about rustic weddings. This time, streamers are starring as ceiling decor to dress up the huge ceilings from a barn. We picked a few items that will go flawlessly with streamers in a rustic setting, paired with a few DIY project alternatives.

1. Vintage milk glass. Love their delicate look on raw wooden tables, as seen on this rustic wedding shoot. You can also get the DIY on how to faux milk glass here.

2. Long rectangular wooden tables are gorgeous as they are without tablecloths, but a vintage doily runner would make a great addition.

3. Streamers as ceiling decor, as seen on this wedding we featured last year and this gorgeous Scottish wedding published a few weeks ago.

4. Vintage tins. We’re loving the ones from this wedding we share last month.

5. Novelty edible snacks, such as cotton candy, sorbet or pop corn. I also love the gingham cone for a pom pom or petal toss! You can view the entire wedding from the image above here.

Stay tuned for our last installment!

We have featured so many amazing weddings using streamers as their wedding decor ;ate;y, that we couldn’t help but notice how versatile they are. From casual handmade weddings to city chic soirées, they can be incorporated in virtually any wedding style, hence the mini series. Starting with a DIY wedding theme, here are few of our favorite vintage decor must-haves that can be perfectly matched with streamers:

1. Vintage cakestands. This vintage-inspired cakestand from My Sweet and Saucy Shop has the right amount of cute to make your wedding cake pop!

2. Tea-length wedding dresses alone make my heart go pitter-patter, and in blush pink? From Dolly Couture.

3. Crepe paper streamers for your ceremony backdrop. You can double it as a photobooth backdrop for your reception! The photo above is by W Scott Chester. You can view another great example of a streamer ceremony backdrop in this wedding we featured a few months ago. You can buy paper streamers in bulk here.

4. Vintage mismatched china. This wedding we featured back in 2009 had a unique place setting for each guest. You can scour flea markets and thrift stores, and we also often see brides selling the vintage china collections in our Recycle Your Wedding section, so be sure to keep your eye peeled for new listings.

5. Retro soda bottles as centerpieces. Brands like Faygo and Boylan have a vintage-inspired look and can be found at most supermarkets. You can view the rest of this wedding here.

6. Paper straws and lemonade, is there a better combo to beat the heat with such charm? Though vintage milk glass bottles are tough to find in large quantities, you can get the same look by getting Starbucks or Archer Farms (by Target) Frappucino bottles pronto :) You can find paper straws in large quantities here.

Check back soon for our next installment!

When you get not one, but two fantastic photographers to capture your day and are under the stylish guidance of <a href="http://www.sweetemiliajane.com"target="blank" onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview('/planners/sweetemiliajane');">Sweet Emilia Jane, there’s no guessing that your wedding will knock some socks off. Sarah and Charlie are a lovely, bookish couple who live in Los Angeles and wanted their day to reflect their love, interests and styles. We’re lucky to have the designer herself walk us through some of the details.

From the designer. We were lucky enough to have two of my absolutely favorite photographers. Noa of Feather Love captured the sweet ceremony. The ceremony in the Marston House and the intimate reception at Old Venice Restaurant were the perfect venues for the old world European garden wedding with New England flair that Sarah + Charlie envisioned.
Jenna of Flutter Glass Photography caught all the little details, heartwarming toasts and rocking dance party at the reception.
As transplants from the east coast, Sarah wanted to include elements that were reminiscent of her Pennsylvania childhood. Her mom collected old milk bottles from various farms near their home which I filled with orange, burgundy and peach flowers for the centerpieces. Guests feasted on a traditional Italian dinner followed by an assortment of of the yummiest Italian pastries I have ever had.
Both Sarah + Charlie are avid readers and we wanted to incorporate vintage books into the decor. We were able to use a lot from their own collection. We named tables after their favorite authors paired with a quote from their favorite books.
This was by far the best wedding I have ever attended. It was so unique and perfectly represented Sarah and Charlie as a couple and as individuals.

We sure made up for such a short week with beautiful weddings filled to the brim with inspiration! Wrapping up the week is Veronika and Bryan’s DIY wedding, shot by Carina of Love Me Do Photography. They did everything themselves – from the beautiful table runners made out of vintage doilies to their paper goods.

We wanted to tailor the wedding to exactly what fit us, as a couple, best. We omitted anything that we didn’t want to do (such as a bouquet/garter toss or first dance). We wrote the ceremony, including excerpts from the velveteen rabbit (I’m a huge fan of children’s books) and the poem “I like you”. We’re both huge beer fans, so we included a variation of the wine-box ceremony, using beer instead. I wanted a huge dance party for most of the night, and we definitely had that; my dad and stepmom didn’t leave the floor the entire night, and i got to see my 78 year-old grandmother dancing to Salt ‘n Pepa. Our family and friends played a huge role in the day, and it made the entire experience so special to Bryan and I.

Almost everything for the wedding was DIY. All of the paper goods (menus, favor tags, drink dispenser tags, program fans, guest book table instructions, sparkler wrappers) were all designed and printed in my home. Bryan made all of the drink concentrates (grapefruit-mint and blackberry) and peach iced tea. With the help of two friends, I cut, ironed, sewed, and goccoed 100 napkins. The 250 cocktail napkins were also goccoed with the same heart that we used on the dinner napkins. I collected vintage frames to use for the table numbers, and using chalkboard paint, made the backs into chalkboards. the bridesmaids hair flowers were made by a friend, as was my garter. Bryan constructed the entire bar (and I sewed the bunting!) and arch that we stood under during the ceremony. We also made the photobooth backdrop, and used our own cameras, lighting equipment, and computers. We made the cake-stands out of milk glass plates and candleholders, as well as wood plaques and branches.

With the help of my mother and grandmother and friend, I collected over 300 doilies and sewed them together to make the runners. They were starched and ironed a couple of days before the wedding. All of the jars for the flowers, the typewriter, milk glass and birdcages, were found by me through craigslist, flea-markets, and countless hours of searching thrift stores. I also found the various tables that we used for cupcakes and the ceremony at thrift stores and flea markets, antiquing them to better fit the feel of the wedding.

I asked each of the girls to pick a light pink dress to wear, and whatever color gold or silver shoes they wanted. for presents, I found each of them a white vintage beaded clutch (1920′s – 1950′s) and a beaded necklace. They looked absolutely stunning!

My advice for brides planning to arrange their own flowers is to take however long you expected for florals to take, and multiply that by 3. it took about 11 hours in 1 day to do all of the flowers, including 7 boutonnieres, 4 bouquets, and 4 large arrangements – as well as approximately 220 bottles and mason jars. Also, be sure that you have a cold room to do the arranging; we don’t have central air, so this was a problem. Make sure you buy a stripper (to get rid of thorns and leaves) and have lots of trash bags ready. Try to stay organized with tubs of water; group the flowers by color or size. I chose many different types of flowers/greenery, but stuck with the same color scheme so everything seemed a bit rustic.

We got one more project for today, just in time for our afternoon crowd! Our next DIY project was sent by Annie, who some of you may know from Marry You Me. She gave old vases a new life by dressing them up as milk glass!

From Annie:
For me, DIY is at it’s best when it saves you money and time and adds a special touch. Vintage milk glass is beautiful, but I know first hand how hard it can be to track down good pieces without spending hours driving around, scouring the internet, or paying a fortune. So I wanted to replicate the look of milk glass on a budget using some vintage glass vases and glossy white spray paint.

What you’ll need:

- Assorted vintage glass vases (I found mine at a local thrift store, 9 pieces for $5)
- Rubbing Alcohol (optional)
- Brown craft paper or newspaper
- Latex gloves
- White glossy spray paint (I used Krylon Multipurpose Indoor/Outdoor Gloss White)

Instructions:
Step 1: Use rubbing alcohol and a cotton ball or paper towel to remove any sticky residue from the vases. Wash vases with soap and dry completely.
Step 2: Lay down paper on your spraying surface in a well-ventilated area. Shake spray paint for 1-2 minutes before spraying. Shake between sprays as well. Wearing gloves, work from side to side spraying vases with spray paint. Don’t get too close to the vase to avoid drips/runs. (No need to spray paint the inside of the vases, just do the tops; spraying the inside then using them for flowers with water will cause the inside paint to flake off).

Step 3: Rotate vase until covered, let dry a few minutes before adding a second coat. Let dry completely.

Our next DIY project is by Christina, who you may remember from this Vintage Milk Glass and Moss Centerpieces post from a little while ago. Today she shares how to make them, and you are welcome to peruse the instructions to create your own (just not for resell). Speaking of vintage milk glass vases, if you have milk glass vases that you would like to sell, please list them in our classifieds section for vintage brides!

Now, onto the project:

What you’ll need: (clockwise from photo above)

- upcycled milk glass pedestals in all different sizes. Mix it up with different shapes like low bowls and even milk glass ashtrays. I would advise a grouping of 3 or more different sizes for a better looking tablescape.
- hot glue gun (a high temp) and lots of glue sticks
- knife
- floral pins (can be found here)
- floral foam (for dried flowers not oasis, can be found here)
- preserved moss (shown: reindeer moss, mood moss and sheet moss)

Step 1: Using a knife, cut the floral foam to fit snuggly in the milk glass. Using your glue gun, generously glue the foam into the glass (pic 2). For added height cut a smaller square out of the foam and glue it on top. Shave all of the corners of the foam off. (pic3)

Step 2: Using either mood moss (as shown) or sheet moss, make three clusters that meet together at the top. Hot glue them down and tuck and hide floral pins into them for added security.

Step 3: Fill in the vacant areas with clusters of reindeer moss. Start at the bottom lip of the glass and layer and glue the moss with the best shaped moss on the outside. The reindeer moss comes in all different shapes and sizes so experiment and piece them together like a puzzle.

Step 4: Check to make sure all moss is securely fastened. If loose, re-glue in needed areas and cover with tiny bits of moss. Make sure there are no dried glue drips or strings on your finished product!

Wonderful for a vintage woodland wedding, these centerpieces can be made months and months ahead of time. Just keep them out of direct sunlight and mist the reindeer moss occasionally to keep it soft.

To enter our “Found Tucked Away and Used Today” DIY Contest, email me your DIY project to amanda @ruffledblog.com with 4-8 images that are at least 600 pixels wide and instructions. Last day to enter is March 25, so hurry! Winner will receive $500 and second runner up a $100 gift certficate to Wendy Mink Jewelry!

Brides, wedding planners, florists, Etsy sellers…everyone is welcome to enter!
