DIY Triangle Table Number Holders

DIY Projects

Photos by:

Hope everyone is having a great Labor Day weekend! This project is perfect for a crafty afternoon on a gloomy day like today. These triangle place card holders have so many uses! I made these to hold signage cards for our table at The Cream Event NYC using scrap wood from our backdrop. These can be made for place cards, menus and table number holders for your wedding. I’m now using them as photo holders and letter organizers in my office!

What you’ll need:
wood scraps
miter box (like this one)
small hacksaw
sand paper
paint and brush

Cut wood pieces in different angles with the help of a miter box (or miter saw) to create different triangle shapes. If you don’t have a miter box to cut triangles, you can just cut rectangular pieces – they will look just as pretty. Check out the lumber section of your favorite hardware store as they typically have scrap wood pieces that can be taken for free. Here I made the triangles from leftover pieces of 1×3. Once you have your shapes cut, start working on the place card opening. I used the help of a Dremel tool to get me started to create a clean edge. Slowly start sawing the opening for cards. Sand your triangles entirely, then stain/paint them. I couldn’t help myself so I added gold leaf to some of them.

These triangle menu + table number holders can also be used to hold holiday cards. These in hunter green + gold metallic “pine trees” are in the plans for my mantle this Christmas :)

To print on vintage postcards like above, just adjust your printer drawer to feed postcards properly + adjust your software (Word, Illustrator, etc) to print on custom size paper.

Farm Wedding Ideas

This soft but warm color palette is gorgeous for a fall wedding. I am particularly loving the use of orange, but it could be that I am slightly obsessed with poppies. When Alice Hu teamed up with Amanda of Fantasy Floral Designs, Cathy of Love at First Invite and by Erica of Erica O’brien Cake Design, I knew this shoot was going to be nothing short of beautiful.

Everything from the lanterns to the centerpieces is simply perfection. The hand-stamped eggshell place card idea is beyond adorable.

Roaring 1920s Wedding Suite

Wedding Design

Megan from MaeMae Paperie recently sent over this beautiful 1920s inspired wedding suite and just had to gush over how fabulous the entire design is. The colors are just right and the logo of the couple on many of the pieces is so sweet. I’m especially loving that Save-the-Date card, the illustration reminds me of poichoir stenciling typical from the 1920s.

Karen + Geraldo’s Orchard Wedding

Garden Weddings, Real Weddings

This wedding is extra special…it is not only an international one, but it is also from my hometown back in Brazil! Karen and Geraldo’s sweet wedding was abundant with sweets, fruits and flowers. Orange leaves covered the ground of the groom’s parents’ backyard, where their wedding took place. I can only imagine what a wonderful scent that must have been! The designer transformed the space to resemble a garden – even the pool turned into a pond, with aquatic plants and river rocks. I am smitten by the fruit crates and flower planters everywhere! Their menus and ceremony programs were printed on green and white striped fabric with stitched border that framed the design. The white and sage green color palette carried throughout the decor.

Now, onto the photos:

An Orchard Inspired Wedding in Brazil
At night, the potted candles on the ground (above) were lit to lead guests to the reception. Love this idea. Very DIYable, too.

Instead of a candy buffet, they had a greenhouse inspired room to display the sweets in drawers from a vintage apothecary furniture and in trays that were placed on shelves, amongst potted plants and flower crates. I am swooning over this candy buffet design!

Karen, the bride, gives us the 411:

We got married at my in-laws’ house, facing the river in the backyard in a late afternoon ceremony. The entrance was lined with orange trees and orange leaves covered the ground. We had small fruit crates printed “all we need is love” that decorated the entire space. Our favors were mini honey jars that said on the label: “A sweet life forever, for everyone”. We didn’t have the traditional (Brazilian) sweets table, but instead we had a gazebo with shelves and drawers filled with candy.

Thanks Karen for sharing your beautiful wedding with us today! Check out her blog.

What you’ll need:

– old window pane
– chalkboard paint
– painters tape
– white paint and crackle paint
– sandpaper
All painting materials can be purchased at your local hardware store.

Step 1: Wash down the window pane making sure the glass is completely clean. Then tape every nook and cranny to make sure no paint gets on the window frame. Give three coats of chalkboard paint. Let the window dry for 24 hours and slowly remove the tape to make sure not to pull the paint off the windows.

Step 2: Paint the frame with crackle paint and let that coat dry for 30 min. Then paint with white acrylic paint on top of the prior coat. Allow it to dry for one hour. After it dries, look over where the paint crackled the most and make a mental note not to sand there.

Step 3: Sand the frame with rough grit sandpaper. Then use a finer grain sandpaper to get a genuine weathered look.

To enter our “Found Tucked Away and Used Today” DIY Contest, email me your DIY project to amanda Check out the details here. Last day to enter is March 25, so hurry!

I have to admit I have a slight obsession with Ikea. Wedding bells and whistles instantly rang, quite literally, when I saw this new frame. The Ikea Tolsby frame costs 99 cents and is double sided, which makes for the perfect table number and menu stand. Carolynn from Two Brunettes designed a floral patterned border for you to type in your wedding menu or table numbers, or both if you would like. Made to fit Tolsby frames, just type in your menu or numbers (on Word, Photoshop, Illustrator, …), print and cut. The template is available in both .jpg and .pdf.
